How to Make the Best Bathroom Renovations
How to Make the Best Bathroom Renovations https://canberrabathroomreno.wordpress.com/2024/03/02/how-to-make-the-best-bathroom-renovations/ A second bathroom can add serious resale value to your home, especially if the kids are old enough to have their own rooms. This project can also be a great way to save money on day-to-day living expenses. Swapping out a basic sink for a double-sink vanity can add both storage and style to a bathroom. In this remodeled bathroom, Arterberry Cooke replaced the dark cabinet with warm wood to create an inviting spa-like look. Lighting Lighting is an integral part of the bathroom that can set the mood, promote safety, and showcase design elements. Itâs often overlooked and undervalued, but proper lighting can transform your bathroom into a comfortable oasis. For example, a vanity mirror should be properly illuminated to eliminate unflattering shadows and make grooming tasks easier. Consider installing lights on either side of the mirror, or adding a backlit feature to create an elegant look that will enhance your space. Lastly, when selecting your bathroom fixtures, prioritize energy efficiency. This will help to reduce your energy bills and environmental impact. Also, consider integrating smart lighting systems to add convenience and further increase energy savings. Moreover, as youâre updating your bathroom, consider incorporating elements of Universal Design. This will ensure that your bathroom can serve you and future homeowners well regardless of age or ability. By including these details now, you can avoid costly retrofits down the road. Plumbing If youâre looking to get the most return on your remodeling dollar, swapping out old pipes is an easy upgrade. Not only does it make your bathroom look better and save energy, but it can also improve resale value. Plumbers are an essential part of any renovation project, ensuring that water supply lines and drains are installed correctly. Their expertise prevents leaks and other problems that could derail your remodel. Plumbing professionals can also help you choose new fixtures that are more water-efficient. For example, upgrading from a low-flow toilet to a high-efficiency model can significantly cut down on water usage. Flooring If your bathroom tile is beyond scrubbing or your floor has a dated pattern, itâs time to replace it with something more stylish and durable. You can choose from an array of materials, including stone, ceramics, and heated floors. Consider your budget and lifestyle, as well as the bathroomâs usage patterns. If you have children or pets, a water-hardy material like vinyl may be the best option. Natural stone flooring offers a luxurious finish to your bathroom and can add significant value. Marble is elegant and can create a classic look, while granite has a rugged texture that creates a nature-inspired ambiance. Heated floors can make morning showers much more pleasant. The installation process can be a bit more expensive than other options, but the added comfort and resale value make it worth the investment. Storage One of the most important parts of a bathroom renovation is the storage solutions. This is a room that you use everyday, so having plenty of storage space will help you keep things organized. Shelves are an effective form of open storage and can be installed in a wide variety of designs and materials to match the decor of the bathroom. Shelving over the toilet and around a mirror are also convenient ways to store linens and other items. Another way to increase storage is with a built-in cabinet that can offer shelves or drawers in place of the traditional medicine cabinet. You can even incorporate a window to provide ventilation and prevent mildew and mold. via Canberra Bathroom Renovations Specialist https://canberrabathroomreno.wordpress.com March 02, 2024 at 01:58PM

5 Tips To Save On Your Bathroom Renovation Project
Bathroom renovations can be expensive but necessary to keep your home or business in top condition. With the right team and strategies, however, you can save money while still getting the beautiful, functional bathroom you deserve.Â
In this post, weâll share 5 tips to help you save on your bathroom renovation project.
â Plan your layout carefully
One of the most significant expenses in any bathroom renovation project is the cost of plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople. You can reduce these costs by planning your layout carefully and keeping all the significant fixtures in the exact location.Â
Moving the toilet, shower, or bathtub even a few feet can add hundreds or thousands of dollars to your renovation costs. Stick to the existing layout as much as possible, and youâll save money without sacrificing style or functionality.
â Choose tiles wisely
Tiles are popular for bathroom floors, walls, and backsplashes but can be expensive. To save money, consider using larger tiles requiring less installation time than smaller ones.Â
Mix and match coordinating tiles to create an attractive, high-end pattern or design without breaking the bank. Another option is to use partial tiling, where you only tile part of the wall or floor and then paint the rest.
â Consider refinishing instead of replacing
If your bathtub, sink, or shower is still in good condition but looks outdated or worn, consider refinishing instead of replacing it. Refinishing is much cheaper than replacing, and it can give your fixtures a new lease on life.Â
You can even change the colour of your bathtub or sink if you want a fresh look. Refinishing takes a few hours or days, and your fixtures will look as good as new.
â Shop around for materials
Regarding bathroom renovations, the cost of materials can add up quickly. To save money, shop for the best deals on tile, fixtures, and other materials.Â
Check out online retailers, outlet stores, and clearance sales for discounted items. You can also ask your contractor to recommend inexpensive materials that look great. Finally, donât hesitate to negotiate with suppliers to get the best price possible.
â Donât skimp on quality
While saving money on your bathroom renovation is essential, itâs equally important not to skimp on quality. Low-quality materials or workmanship can lead to costly repairs, which will cost you more in the long run.Â
Choose high-quality materials and reputable contractors with a track record of delivering excellent results. A good contractor will work with you to find ways to save money without compromising on quality
Bathroom renovations can be expensive, but there are ways to save money when undertaking this project. By following these 5 tips, you can save money while still getting the beautiful, functional bathroom you deserve.Â
Remember to plan your layout carefully, choose tiles wisely, consider refinishing instead of replacing, shop around for materials, and donât skimp on quality. With these strategies, you can transform your bathroom without blowing your budget.

Every Record I Own - Day 290: Miles Davis Bitches Brew
In A Silent Way may have been Davisâs first foray into incorporating rock instrumentation into jazz music, but Bitches Brew was the album that had the purists crying Judas. Itâs a wild, bumpy ride---one that takes a few listens to wrap your head around and pick out the creative logic behind the layers of percussion, frantic electric piano, and stabs of funk guitar. I donât remember when I first heard the album, but I remember when it was officially drilled into my psyche.
It was September 2011 and Russian Circles were on our first Australian tour. The trip had started well with a couple of surprisingly well-attended shows in Melbourne. Our third show was in Canberra, and it was just a few degrees above freezing outside. In my mind, Australia was a continent with the year-round climate of Southern California, so the warmest piece of clothing Iâd brought was a zip-up hoodie. I was shivering inside the club.Â
The booking agent/promoter whoâd brought us over had been very frugal with costs and very ambitious with scheduling. We were beginning to realize the guy would cut corners wherever he could to save money, which would be fine if we benefited from the savings, but we had a flat guarantee based on a conservative estimate of ticket sales, and so our discomfort turned into his profit. The more shows he could cram into a short period of time and the fewer accommodations he had to pay for meant he was pocketing more cash.
This exploitative stinginess is best exemplified by the night after the Canberra show. We were to drive three hours to Sydney immediately after the show to catch a 6am flight to Brisbane where weâd play an afternoon in-store, an evening show, then do an afterparty DJ set until 3am, then hop on another 6am flight back to Sydney where weâd do an afternoon all-ages show and an evening 21+ show. So the only opportunity to any sleep over the course of three days involved trying to get some shut-eye on the three-hour drive to the Sydney airport. All our gear, luggage, and merch was crammed into a van. No trailer. No loft. No seats removed. There was no place to lie down or stretch out. My spot in the van was in a lone seat situated by the sliding side door of the van, which wouldnât close all the way because it had been banged up in a collision at some point. Icy cold air was blowing on me constantly. I had no coat, no blanket. The heat only worked in the front vents, so it was cranked at full blast, but was completely neutralized by the frosty air howling through the damaged door.
Trying to sleep was an exercise in futility. It was freezing cold and I was shoehorned into some uncomfortable position to make room for all the equipment. The booking agent drove and put disc one of Bitches Brew in the van stereo. We went through about two full passes of the roaring clamor of âPharaohâs Danceâ and âBitches Brewâ before we stopped for gas. After vying for precious time under the bathroomâs hand dryer, we all bought large cups of hot water to cradle in our hands on the drive. They sold a few pink childrenâs knit caps, which were purchased by the members of our party with small enough heads. I contemplated buying a tarp to use as a blanket but didnât have enough cash. Â Our guitarist who had been sitting shotgun bought lip balm because heâd had the heat vents blowing directly into his face in an effort to warm up the rest of us in the back. He had been lucky enough to briefly fall asleep by resting his head on a console between the front two seats, though heâd unknowingly passed out on a melting caramel fudge square, which was now matted into his hair.
We got back in the van. Disc one of Bitches Brew resumed and would play on repeat for the remainder of the drive. Itâs a wonder I have any affinity for an album that I associate with one of the longest and most miserable nights Iâve ever had on tour. Iâve slept on the tiled floors of unheated Italian squats, in the driver seat of vans parked in Southern rest areas during the peak of summer heat, in Spanish hovels where we were instructed to keep the lights on to keep the rats at bay, beneath the kitchen tables of punk houses during loud drunken parties⊠nothing was as bad as that night, likely because I also knew there would be no sleep allowed for another 48 hours.
And yet I still came home from that tour and bought this LP.

Steven Universe: Woomera - Chapter Three
(with thanks to @real-fakedoors for proofreading. READ HER STUFF.)
Three
Every time I thought I'd got it made It seemed the taste was not so sweet
Civic was the cultural and social hub of the city of Canberra.
All things considered, this was not saying much.
Certainly, the twin Sydney and Melbourne Buildings, stately Mediterranean-styled structures on opposite sides of Northbourne Avenue, had a goodly variety of shops and restaurants, and there was the Monaro Mall if you wanted to visit the upmarket David Jones department store. There was the stately Hotel Civic, famed mostly for a protest against its gender-segregated public bar back in â65. But it was just too quiet and dull compared to Sydney or Melbourne, and it lacked the country-town charm of a rural centre. People didn't excitedly anticipate going to Civic - they went there because there was absolutely nowhere else.
Well, except perhaps Queanbeyan, but that was a bit of a drive.
OâReillyâs was an Irish Pub on the corner of the Sydney Building (or so it was claimed - the founder was an American who'd never been to the Emerald Isle in his life, and the dark, shadowy musk felt more like Goulburn than Galway). It was by no means the heart of Civic, but it was cheap, and that was what mattered to its patrons. There were no politicians here, no big-name journalists - just ordinary people.
Lapis sat at the bar, looking at a dog-eared copy of the Canberra Times. It had been printed this morning, which was already starting to feel like an age ago. OPPOSITION BLOCKS SUPPLY, it bellowed.
âNo kidding,â muttered Lapis.
She shrugged and turned through the pages, past the editorials and the letters and through the various local news stories, and found herself at the sports pages. She looked again to be sure, and then threw the paper away in disgust. No abandoned car story - the editor hadn't run it. She doubted he'd even looked at it.
She sighed, burying her head in her arms.
âCan I get you anything?â the bartender asked helpfully.
âCan you get me a ticket out of this place?â replied Lapis.
âI can get you a beer,â shrugged the bartender.
Lapis groaned.
âStraight vodka,â she replied, âItâs been that kind of day.â
âRight away, ma'am.â
The bartender walked off to prepare the drink. As he walked along the counter, he passed two young women, both on the short side, in animated discussion.
âAmethyst, you know I can't,â said one, âI've got an essay due the next day and I need that time to study!â
âCâmon, Peridot, this is what student life is all about!â exclaimed Amethyst, âYou gotta live a little!â
âBy attending a communist rally?â
âSocialist,â Amethyst corrected, âItâs a big tent. And it'll be for a good cause! Trust me, I know a bunch of people there, you'll fit right in!â
âAmethystâŠâ
âWould you do it for me?â asked Amethyst, grinning sweetly and leaning in on her friend.
Peridotâs face turned red.
âI⊠uh⊠sure, okay. But don't do that here, weâre in public,â she warned.
Amethyst sighed and sat back.
âBeing in public sucks,â she grunted.
âWell, weâll be back at the dorm soon,â shrugged Peridot.
Amethyst grinned.
The bartender walked back past them, handing the shot of straight vodka to Lapis. He sat the glass down in front of her, a bit of strain in his expression. He looked like he wanted to say something, maybe, but Lapis wasn't particularly in the mood for chit-chat.
"I know what I'm doing," she grunted, letting her fingers circle the rim of her liquid courage. The man's frown deepened momentarily, but he walked away without any probing questions.
Mission accomplished. Miserably, Lapis raised the shot glass.
âHere's to Melbourne,â she said, âSome day.â
She sighed, draining the small glass in one go and shaking her head.
Not far away, Donald Fryman sat at a table, rubbing his temples. A friend of his, a local lawyer named Marilee Zircon, regarded him with sympathetic eyes.
âI'm sorry, Don,â she said, âThere just doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. The RSL guys just won't hear it.â
âWhy not?â demanded Fryman, âThey're the Returned and Services League. I'm a returned serviceman! Why can't they let me in?â
âThey, uh, they sent me a letter, but I don't think it'sâŠâ Zircon began.
âGive it here,â grunted Fryman.
Swallowing, Zircon produced a single sheet of paper from her pocket and handed it to Fryman. He unfolded the sheet and read it out loud.
âMs. Zircon,â he read, âAs Mr. Fryman did not serve in a real war - that's underlined, glad they made that clear - we are not obligated to provide him with membership or support. Furthermore, we believe that the conduct of servicemen in the late war in Vietnam does not correspond with the values of the RSL or the Anzac tradition⊠where the fuck do they get off on this?â
He threw the letter down in disgust.
âDonâŠâ
âI need some air,â snapped Fryman, climbing to his feet and marching to the door.
The night was brisk - although winter was long over, the Canberra evenings still had their bite. Fryman walked up to his rusty old car and stopped next to it, lighting a cigarette.
âBad night?â
Fryman looked up. Bill Dewey stood under a street lamp by the bus stop.
âMhm,â grumbled Fryman, âBad day. This Senate crapâs turning Parliament House upside down. They've got me guarding Fraser now - twelve âtill ten, can you believe it?â
He took a drag of his smoke.
âIf I wanted to work those hours, I'd have stayed at Nui Dat.â
Both men chuckled, and Fryman took another drag.
âSo, whatâre you up to?â asked Fryman.
âWaiting for a bus,â replied Dewey.
He leaned forward, looking left and right, and shook his head.
âIt never seems to be coming, does it?â he sighed.
âNah,â said Fryman ruefully, âTypical Canberra buses.â
He took one more drag of his cigarette and dropped it, crushing it under his shoe.
âWell, one more,â he said, âThen Iâd better be getting home to Peedee.â
âYou have a good night, Don,â Dewey nodded.
Fryman smirked and performed a mock salute.
âYou too, Lieutenant Dewey.â
He turned and walked back inside. He was halfway back to Zirconâs table when he felt someone tug on his arm. He turned - an elderly fellow, perhaps sixty years old, was sitting alone at a table. He was gaunt, his dark rimmed eyes magnified by a pair of glasses.
âCouldnât help but notice youâre getting screwed by the RSL too,â he said raspily, âSame happened to me, you know.â
âIâm sorry to hear it,â nodded Fryman.
âYeah, itâs the way it goes, isnât it?â grunted the man, âThe government calls you to do itâs dirty business then throws you away when itâs done.â
He shook his head.
âThey sold our lives at Woomera,â he muttered darkly, âMay as well have fuckinâ shot us themselves.â
Across the bar, already fairly drunk, Lapisâ ears perked up. Woomera⊠Woomera, that was important⊠Roy Bradleyâs car! WOOMERA!
Lapis pursed her lips and nodded to herself. It was time, she decided, to start getting some answers.
She climbed to her feet in determination. Then she swayed, losing her sense of balance, her vision swimming and her head pounding. Bile built up in her throat. For a moment, she glanced back at the counter, and the ten shot glasses that had accumulated in front of her stool suddenly into sharp focus.
As she fell backwards, crashing to the hard, tiled floor, she asked herself if ten shots of straight vodka had really been such a good idea.
Then there was a crash, and all was dark.
Thereâs a blissfulness about unconsciousness, about neither feeling nor thinking. One canât really be hurt or punished in such a state - it is a strange sort of zen, bereft of the wonder of dreams or the terror of nightmares.
Usually itâs to define when consciousness returns. The exception to this rule is when it comes back in the form of a pounding, splitting headache. In those cases, it comes back with great and unwelcome fanfare.
Lapis groaned, clutching her head as she took stock of her surroundings. She was back in her apartment - how did she get here? Sheâd been laid on the couch, a pillow under her head and a blanket over her body. Did she walk home? Get a cab? Fly, even? That perhaps was unlikely, but part of her didnât want to rule it out.
Still moaning to herself, she sat up. The apartment was a mess, but that wasnât new - cleaning products were expensive and she wasnât exactly swimming in money. Among the dusty pile of old newspapers and junk mail on the coffee table, she sighed a clean sheet of a paper, a hastily scrawled note written upon it.
Found you laying outside that Irish Pub at eleven last night and helped you get home. Hope you donât mind, but I had to go through your pockets to find your keys. - Greg.
Outside? But⊠but she passed out inside the pub, soâŠ
So theyâd picked her up and deposited her on the pavement outside at closing time. Typical. Stay classy, OâReillyâs.
She picked up the note paper and turned it over in her hand. There was a logo printed on the other side; Itâs A Wash! An address underneath revealed that the business was in Acton, and was owned by a Greg Universe. Maybe sheâd have to thank him.
She looked at the clock and sighed heavily. It was already evening - she must have slept all day. Sheâd be in trouble, except she doubted anyone at the Canberra Times had even noticed she hadnât come in. Sitting back on the couch, she grabbed the remote and turned the television on.
Immediately, she was met with the face of Gough Whitlam, in the middle of an interview with someone at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation - the ABC.
More politics, she thought to herself. It was hard not to get sick of it all.
â...so, must Sir John Kerr accept your advice whatever advice you give-â
âUnquestionably!â Whitlam replied forcefully, before the interviewer had finished his question, âThe Governor-General takes the advice of his Prime Minister and from no one else.â
âAnd must act on that advice?â
âUnquestionably! The Governor-General must act on the advice of his Prime Minister.â
âThere is no tolerance here? He must do-â
âNone whatever.â
Huh, Lapis thought. Well, this was a slightly interesting development - it seemed Whitlam was making it especially clear that he had no intention of backing down. Still, it all seemed a bit strange and technical. Who cared about the Governor-General anyway? He sat in a mansion and rubber-stamped laws, everybody knew that.
She turned off the TV. It wasnât worth worrying about.
There was a lot worth worrying about for Pearl.
The press gallery was already going off; she could hear them from the Prime Ministerâs offices. She didnât blame them - the Prime Minister had directly challenged Ellicottâs legal opinion of the previous day, which wouldnât have been a problem, except for the fact that it could easily be interpreted as a challenge to Sir John Kerr himself.
It made yesterday seem simple by comparison - a spat between Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser, a normal dispute between parties. Now it threatened to become something impossibly larger. Theyâd called it a constitutional crisis yesterday - now âcrisisâ seemed too tame a word. The world had turned upside down once again, and it had only just gone five.
It seemed itâd be a late night, so sheâd headed down to grab a coffee. She needed caffeine - it was that or insanity, at this stage.
She met Fryman at the cafeteria, intently studying the board, his eyes sunken and weary. Pearlâs heart went out for him - being a security guard was a thankless job, after all. Next to him was one of her counterparts from Malcolm Fraserâs secretarial pool; a tall, lithe, blonde woman, conservatively dressed, her face set into a perpetual frown.
Yellow - for that was what everyone called her - had a reputation for being neurotic and something of a perfectionist. She was often hard to like. Yet under that exterior was a deeply competent woman, and one that Pearl respected...at a distance.
Nevermind the company. She came here with a goal in mind, caffeine, and she was going to see it through. Pearl stepped up beside Yellow and waited for her turn, though she was pleased when the pair included her in their conversation.
âThat Briggs man came around today,â she spat, and Pearl raised an eyebrow.
âMartin Briggs?â she asked, âFrom the American Embassy?â
âYeah, I saw him heading into Fraserâs office,â nodded Fryman, âWhat did he want?â
âI donât know,â replied Yellow, âSomething or another; Mr. Fraser was busy so I told him to come back next week. And then he hung around for twenty minutes leering at me. How does someone so uncouth get to be a diplomat?â
âBeats me,â shrugged Fryman.
âYeah, he was coming onto me yesterday,â said Pearl, âGough sent him off - told him to come back at six.â
âWell, if he came back, I didnât see him,â shrugged Fryman, âBut I might have left before him.â
They chatted idly for a little longer as the line moved. Eventually, Pearl had her coffee - no sugar or cream, as usual. Yellow turned her nose up at it.
âYouâd have it without milk if they let you,â she sniffed.
âI donât tell you how to have your coffee,â snapped Pearl.
Yellow snorted as she walked off, leaving Pearl and Fryman alone.
âAre you sure you donât want toâŠâ said Fryman, looking down at Pearlâs mug.
âIâm sure,â replied Pearl, âCertain flavours make me gag. Iâve always been something of a fussy eater, at any rate.â
âGet it from your parents?â asked Fryman.
âI donât really remember my parents much,â replied Pearl, âDad was a railwayman, he left my mother shortly after I was born to go to Junee. Then she died of pneumonia when I was about four, so I grew up with my relatives in QueanbeyanâŠâ
âOh.â Fryman bit his lip. âIâm sorry.â
âDonât be,â Pearl shrugged, âI donât think about them much, anyway.â
He nodded, covering his mouth as he yawned.
âIâd better get back to my post,â he said, âYou have a nice evening, Pearl.â
âYou too, Fryman,â nodded Pearl.
She yawned on reflex as the security guard walked away, and gazed morosely into her coffee. Her face was reflected in the cloudy liquid - god, she looked tired.
To think it was only day two.

CANTLON: CHESHIRE'S ROBERT "BERT" MALLOY CONTINUES TO SHINE IN AUSTRALIA
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - Cheshire's Robert "Bert" Malloy continues to shine in the Australia Ice Hockey League (AIHL). An American/Australian dual citizen, Malloy played in his tenth in the Land Down Under. It was also his last for the Newcastle Northstars, in their short-season league this past summer, where they finished one win short, losing in the Goodall Cup championship game to the top-ranked CBR (Canberra) Brave 3-2. "(It was a) tough way to end the season. Not the fairytale ending we were looking for. It was also my last game playing for Newcastle. "The Central Coast Rhinos (2005-2008) are coming back into the league as an expansion team, and the rink is five minutes away from where my family lives. It's a new chapter and an opportunity to build something brand new. "(It was a) tough decision to make, but traveling an hour each way with kids at home versus playing at a rink underneath my local grocery store five minutes away makes more sense," Malloy stated via e-mail. He's still looking to represent Australia's national team, known as "The Mighty Roo," in the spring. "My goal is to earn a spot on the national team roster for another year. Our world's are in Madrid in April." Austalia will play in Group A, Division II in April from the 17th through the 23rd, 2023, against Croatia, the nation of Georgia, Iceland, Israel, and the host country of Spain. Malloy went on to say, "There's also a Trans-Tasman Cup (tournament) in Melbourne where we have a three-game series with the NZ (New Zealand) (national) team in November (for Southern Hemisphere bragging rights)." Malloy had 33 points in 19 regular season games, good for third best on Newcastle. Former Salisbury School player Francis Drolet was their top scorer. Drolet is heading to HC Varese (Italy-IHL Division-2) in the fall. The pandemic took its toll on Australian hockey and society just as it did on the rest of the planet. "COVID took a significant impact on hockey down here. The league had significant momentum and growth; now, it's an opportunity to reboot. There are two expansion teams joining next year (Central Coast and Brisbane), with Adelaide and Perth rejoining, making it an even stronger ten-team national league. I think they are always considering expansion with New Zealand. "It comes down to flight availabilities in and out of NZ because most guys have work commitments on Friday and Mondays," Malloy, a one-time member of the Hartford Junior Wolf Pack, said. Over the last two years, he and his young family also had to contend with major forest fires and flooding in New South Wales. Lastly, Newcastle's long-time coach earlier this century, Don Champagne, 71, passed away. Champagne helped direct Newcastle to four AIHL tiles. NEWCASTLE NORTHSTARS HOME Read the full article

Essential Spring Cleaning Tips for All Homeowners
For the hectic spring season you need to freshen up your home a little bit in order to bring that sunshine and crisp air in your house. While cleaning your home from top to bottom is undoubtedly worth the time and energy, many people shy away (or run screaming in the opposite direction) from such a time-consuming and tedious task. But by following these spring cleaning tips - and hiring a professional spring cleaning services provider in Canberra for things like carpet cleaning or upholstery cleaning - the job ahead of you will look a lot less daunting and your home will be spick and span. Here are some effective spring cleaning tips that you can follow:
Organise your thoughts and plan of actions. In fact, it is recommended that you plan your chores thoroughly so you do not miss out on something important. Have your cleaning materials ready before getting down to the chore. You can start with the different bedrooms first then move on to the living room, dining room and the kitchen. Eventually the cleaning would end up in the attic or the garage.
Make sure that you have all the supplies and materials you'll need to get the job done. Once you get rolling, the last thing you want is to run out of cleaning supplies. Be sure to use green, non-toxic products to keep your home and the environment safe.
Letting go of things not in use is important not only physically but emotionally as well. There are so many things in the house that reminds you of happy and sad events. In fact, some people simply cannot move on as they have the tendency to hold on to something that is not good. Take the time to look over the things you are better without. Either you can give it away to charity organisations, organise a yard sale and sell it cheaply or the important ones can be kept for further use.
Cleaning your carpets and rugs will make a huge difference in the appearance of your home. After all, your carpet has endured a winter's worth of dirt and dust. Taking the time to clean the carpets or getting them cleaned by a professional spring cleaning services provider in Canberra will make a world of difference in the cleanliness of your home. Regularly cleaning carpets and rugs also helps reduce pesky allergens.
Store away winter clothes and things. Sheets and blankets used during winter time should be washed and stored neatly. This goes the same with winter clothes like jackets and other winter accessories. It is important that you store your winter items in boxes or containers protected from mites and moulds.
Upholstery should be professionally cleaned. After normal wear and tear, your furniture can begin to look soiled, making the entire room feel dingy. Professional carpet cleaning companies generally offer upholstery cleaning services.
Give your home a good dusting. Since dust has the nasty habit of collecting in hard to reach places like the tops of ceiling fans, light fixtures, and blinds and shutters. Consider getting an extendable dusting wand.
Pay special attention to your tile and grout. A thorough cleaning can remove grime and bring your tile and grout back to its original colour. Businesses that offer carpet cleaning services often also do professional tile and grout cleaning.
With these easy and effective spring cleaning tips, you are on your way to a clean and fresh place to live! At Ultimate Cleaners, we offer a complete range of spring cleaning services. With a vast wealth of experience in the cleaning industry, we are well equipped to cater to all your spring cleaning needs.

Happy New Year!
I think the thing that surprised me most was how deluded we were. The Currowan fire was enormous, bigger than anything anyone had any experience with. The longer a fire burns, the hotter it gets, and this had been burning for weeks. I knew it was dry, you could see it on the ridges - they were browning off. Not dead, but getting there. Weâd been mountain biking frequently up the back of Maulbrooks Road, to the west of Mogo. We knew it was crisp-dry.Â
I had checked the fire prediction map the night before, and even though it showed ember attack on the eastern side fo the highway, I still could not believe that suburbs like Malua Bay or Catalina would be affected. They were just tooâŠ.suburban. Yet, when I look at the map now itâs clear that Malua Bay, Tomakin, Broulee, Rosedale etc.,. lie at the eastern end of a huge, uninterrupted tract of bush directly to the northwest, bush that had an active fire in it, a fire that had been burning for weeks, in unprecedented dry conditions. These brick and tile suburbs, with their lawns and trampolines and boat trailers, were basically at the end of a gun barrel.Â
Map showing the track of the NYE fire
It took days to get information about the local area. I could call anyone in any city on the planet on the landline, but no-one closer than Nowra. Â
Eurobodalla Council had run a campaign leading up to Christmas to get Canberra holiday makers back to the coast (theyâd been staying away due to the smoke and threat of road closures). Now the Kings Highway from Batemans Bay was closed, the Princes Highway was closed and the only way out was to the south. Many were now stuck in the region with kids, caravans, trailers and boats. The trouble was, there was no fuel. All the petrol stations had fuel but no power to pump it with. It took a couple of days for generators to reach Moruya, under escort through the road closures, in order to pump fuel. Canberrans had to drive up Brown mountain through Cooma, the road was later closed due to fires in that area too.Â
Moruya Heads, New Yearâs Day. The smoke and ash prevented communications and radio, as well as blocking out light for solar panels.Â
We drove the 8kms to Tâs Dadâs place. His house, like many others locally, is off-grid and relies on solar. He had about one day before his power, that also operates his water pumps, ran out, as the ash coated his panels and also prevented sunlight. T climbed up on the roof and cleaned the panels and then we went home. We had water, a flushing toilet, solar hot water but no power. We told our daughter it was like camping but in your own bed. Â
It was OK. We bought a couple of boxes of veges off our neighbours from Queen St growers, one for us, one for Tâs Dad and partner. We had rice, eggs, pasta, lentils, a substantial metho stove with fuel and an Engel fridge in the van that we stopped using once we ran out of milk.Â
Our diet was a little more vegan than usual - each morning I made porridge with coconut milk, chopped almonds and honey, and we ate a lot of beans and veges for the rest of the meals. We had two cars, one of which was in town with a full tank of diesel, the other at home and running on fumes. Tâs work van had half a tank and sat in the driveway, slowly being filled up with tools.Â
Neighbours dropped in and told us theyâd âcircled the wagonsâ at the evacuation centre at the Moruya showgrounds, and camped together, but that it was noisy, unhygienic and there were dogs roaming everywhere. Our next-door neighbours returned home from the evacuation centre, offering us their generator powered fridge if we needed it.Â
I went into town to Southlands (grocery store), which was letting people in on a one-in one-out basis. Outside I ran into friends and neighbours whoâd left the Heads and were staying in town, all with friends. We hugged and caught up with each other. She told me that there was no fuel, batteries or hoses left at the hardware store. She'd been on an unsuccessful hunt that morning for a P2 mask.
Inside the grocery shop was dark with the power still out, but the food was fresh as theyâd loaded up their old refrigerated truck as the fires came through. I didnât buy much - we didnât need much - just some avocados, passata and a bit of fruit. Nearby there was a long queue outside the pharmacy, people who I was told her waiting for their methadone. They waited more than three hours for the doors to open.Â
While I was in town my phone got a bar of service and I checked Instagram. A good friend who lives just outside Bega posted about the Cobargo fire, and how many friends had lost their homes. It was the first sense of the magnitude of the fire that ripped eastwards through Cobargo at dawn on New Yearâs Eve.Â
After two and a half days we managed to get ABC Illawarra on the car radio. It was only then that we heard that about 400 houses had been lost in the 20km of suburbs directly to our north, and estimates of another 400 lost in the Bega Shire. It was unbelievable.Â
I heard a couple of interviews, one who was a career firefighter who described the fire as more fierce than anything heâd ever seen, creating its own tornado winds and just levelling everything in its path. The bush was so dry that fires were able to get hot enough to become weather driven (instead of fuel driven). This meant they could burn across open paddocks, burning little more than just the air ahead of them. He was describing fireballs that travelled across open country, at the speed of the wind.Â
We heard more stories from people further north, stories about people running for their lives onto the beaches at Malua Bay. People driving to a beach and then realising it didnât have enough sand between them and the flames. People jumping into the surf at Rosedale and almost drowning in the big southerly swell running. I heard that rest home residents abandoned their âemergency placeâ - the dining room - and started hosing down the burning debris that landed up against the buildings. Â
Many people had moved to evacuation centres, but the toilets at the Showgrounds were on an electricity operated pump system, and quickly failed. UOWâs campus at Batemans Bay was used as an evacuation centre for elderly residents from a couple of local rest homes. They sat in their wheelchairs for hours, while the temperature inside the building rose. There was no air-conditioning and no ability to open the windows, or even the main front door. Once the front door was manually opened it had to be manned by a security guard to stop people who werenât elderly evacuees from entering.Â
I heard later that the elderly sent to the UOW campus were there because the evacuation centre at Hanging Rock, opposite the UOW campus, was overflowing. There was nowhere near enough chairs, so many elderly were sitting outside on the concrete. I also heard that many of those evacuated were âon oxygenâ and arrived at the campus with their O2 lines connected to their noses and masks, waiting to âplug inâ to the O2 at UOW. However, UOW Batemans Bay does not keep oxygen readily available. So, there were elderly people sitting in wheelchairs, requiring oxygen but with none available. One witness told me that an off duty nurse said, âThese people will start dying in a matter of hours without oxygenâ. Â
Ten dayâs later, I was at a dinner with friends when a woman told me that Andrew Constance had visited the UOW campus and called the premier, Ms Berejiklian and told her she needed to get the people out of the campus or else it was going to be on the front pages of every newspaper in the country. Multiple ambulances collected the evacuees and took them back to their respective rest homes. This woman was proud of Mr Constance for his decisive action.Â
Another person at the table said, âSo the state government ignores climate change, then ignores the immediate warnings about a bushfire catastrophe, doesnât plan anything at all and then when it all turns to shit on their watch, one of their team gets to ride in a look like a hero for saving the day?â
It was one of many, many tense conversations in the weeks that followed.Â
Many stories we heard were also inaccurate. We heard that Mogo was completely gone, that Mossy Point was completely on fire, that Broulee itself had lost hundreds of houses. We heard that the Princes Highway was still burning at Bimbimbie and would take months to be repaired. I managed to text a friend and colleague who lives in Catalina. We have another colleague and friend at Jeremadra, and I was very worried about her. The text came back - sheâs OK and we think her house is still there.Â
This was what it was like - weâve lived here for many years, we know thousands of people. There was also the brutal knowledge that the southerly that âsaved usâ would most definitely have spelled disaster for others. Itâs a terrible feeling of weird relief and guilt. Â
And every night Iâd make sure the phone volume was turned all the way up, in the hope that one of my city friends might call the landline if we didnât receive an emergency text. Our neighbour left their south facing windows open so theyâd be woken by any glow that might appear on the hill behind us. I woke many times every night and stood outside looking for glowing red or orange to the north of or south.Â
At some point the state government issued a state of emergency but that meant nothing to anyone as far as I knew. There was still no power and no communication.
A neighbour came down for a coffee and said he was worried about all the junkies drying out. We laughed and talked about everyone going a bit mad and paranoid. This was not helped by the numerous stories of looting going around, as some suburbs were evacuated and people werenât allowed back in once theyâd left.Â
Always, ALWAYS make sure you have the ability to make coffee
For three days after NYE the RFS was issuing extremely serious warnings about the coming Saturday (the 4th). As everyone gradually started to see and share images of the destruction on whatever limited communication they had, the panic started to set in.Â
The suburb remained fairly empty. NYE was a Tuesday. We were warned by the RFS on the radio that Saturday was the real danger day. Our neighbour came by and told us the RFS wanted everyone out of the Heads for the 4th.Â
This was not a mandatory evacuation, and we were told to place our recycling bin outside the house to indicate we were home. Days later I saw another neighbour on the beach. She asked if weâd gone to the community meeting in town on the Friday before the âSaturday fire dayâ. I said no, we didnât know anything about it. She said,Â
âIf youâd been there thereâs no way you would have stayed. They told us that the RFS would not be defending the Heads at all, and that they were only going to defend the town (Moruya)â.Â
Lucky we didnât go to the meeting then!
We kept checking the forecast leading up to Saturday - it showed an early northerly and then noreast for our place. We started to feel a little more confident - a strong NNE would likely be more onshore for us at the coast, protecting us to the north. The Fire Spread Prediction Map showed us as the only tiny little avenue of untouched area. This was comforting but we were also aware of how inaccurate the previous NYE map had been, showing Malua Bay etc.,. as untouched and yet they burned.
We decided that I would evacuate into Moruya the night before with the kid and the dog, and T would âstay and defendâ. It was a mad few days prepping the house. T cut sheets of corrugated iron for all the doors and windows, rigged up a watering system, cut down many of trees and branches. We packed everything we felt we âcouldnât live withoutâ into the cars and the van, including two huge tubs of Lego.Â
Days later, when we finally felt like we could unpack everything, I found this little message written next to the windowsill in our daughterâs room;
We moved all the cars into town, leaving T at the house with his electric mountain bike. Thereâs only one road into the Heads, and itâs flanked in sections by bush. T thought that if that road was cut, or the road to the beach was cut heâd have a better chance across the paddocks or through the bush on his bike. And with that, we waited for our second âfire dayâ.Â

3 Common Myths Concerning Tile & Grout Cleaning Finally Debunked
Dirt on tiles in your bathroom or kitchen can be unsightly and even unhealthy for your pets, kids and aged family members. Moreover, if you haven't yet cleaned your tile and grouts for a long time or they have deteriorated over time, mould or mildews can be lurking underneath the surface of the tiles which can give rise to respiratory troubles, skin infections, asthma and many more.
Have you ever thought of hiring professionals for reviving your tiles? No? Why because of the myths prevailing on the internet? Well, in that case, you are risking your property and health of your family members.
This blog highlights the common misconceptions regarding professional tile and grout cleaning you need to be aware of.
Myth 1: Mopping Helps in Grout Cleaning
Mopping floors regularly to keep tile and grouts clean is a good idea, but it isn't that powerful enough to dilute the stubborn stains, grime or dirt build that have settled over time. Moreover, incorrect way of mopping floors further pushes mud, dirt into the inner pores of the grouts, which becomes challenging to remove later. So if you consider mopping floors to clean your tiles, make sure to use a wet vac to ensure there is no moisture.
Myth 2: Bleach Can Remove Hard-Spills and Stains
When it comes to tile and grout cleaning in Canberra, most homeowners consider using bleach to wipe off stains or hard spills such as coffee, blood spots etc. For some specific items, bleach is good, but using it for floors can ruin your expensive tiles and give you costly repairs in the future. Bleach causes grouts to weaken and break apart. Moreover, it ruins the glossy finish of the tiles, which is even more frustrating.Â
Myth 3: Wire Brush is Good For Scrubbing Stubborn Stains
This is another misconception among homeowners when it comes to grout cleaning in Canberra. It may seem great to use wire brushes to scrub off the stubborn stains on tiles or cleaning grouts but rigorous erosion can ruin the shine of your costly tiles and make you repent later. It also releases an acidic vapor that can damage other appliances such as stainless steel faucets or similar fixtures.Â
Myth 4: DIY Tile & Grout Cleaning Works Better
The internet is flooded with plenty of content that suggests tile and grout cleaning to be a simple DIY job. Unfortunately, itâs not. The reason being the materials used by professional tile and grout cleaners are not always available at the local store. Moreover, itâs not possible to arrange high-powered cleaning tools and equipment single-handedly.
Hope now you have got your misconceptions cleared by reading this blog. If you want to know more about the benefits of professional tile and grout cleaning, keep following our posts

A number of people used think that hiring people for cleaning service is wastage of time. However, it is not that easy to clean. Cleaning the home is a difficult task. One must look for hiring professional cleaning services in Canberra. The present post is all about the reasons you need to book the cleaning service.
You have a lack of time
There are millions of reasons to have a packed your timetable. You work for long extended periods, you are dealing with your family, and time is cash. Whatever the reason, employing an expert for cleaning methods gives you some time for repayment. Which will naturally ease some pressure? Without stress, your house and toilet can be cleaned.
A Lot of Cleaners Bring Their Own Supplies
Cleaning the whole house needs such a large number of various cleaners. You require one cleaner for the washroom tile, one for the mirrors, and another for the latrine, one more for the grout. In addition, that is only for the restroom. Numerous expert cleaners, nevertheless, bring their very own provisions (counting microfiber materials, wipes, and vacuum cleaners), which spares you cash and the issue of stocking up and store cleaners. Do you want to become environmentally friendly? Many cleaners are out there who can clean your home start to finish utilising compound free items.
The majority of the Dusting
Give us a chance to survey the things in your home that should be cleaned. The highest points of tables, table legs, mirrors, craftsmanship and picture outlines, lights, light shades, hanging light installations, bookshelves, each and every enlivening thing on each and every table and retire, window ledges, the TV, roof fans, blinds, the highest point of your cooler, underneath your icebox. Everything in your home that has a surface needs cleaning as one of the best electricians Canberra mentioned. On the off chance that you are depleted simply perusing that rundown, simply contemplates how debilitating it is really to do the majority of that cleaning.
Those Filthy Floors

In any case, regardless of whether you have a cover, hardwood, tile, or tile, an intensive cleaning your floors needs to occur at any rate once every one to about fourteen days all together to expel the regular amassing of earth and shield it from working up. Once more, obviously this is something you could do yourself that is not the point. The fact of the matter is would you extremely like to clean.
Save some cash
Your house is presumably your single biggest speculation. Keeping up its surfaces is basic to keeping up its general esteem. Tiles, ledges, furniture, floors, dividers, baseboards, and manufactured items, all these surfaces require customary cleaning to remain new. The more you enable soil and oils to develop on these surfaces, the almost certain you are to require extreme activities, for example, sanding and resurfacing, to fix the harm. On the off chance that you do not give support, you hazard acquiring greater expenses for fix or substitution later on. Standard cleanings keep mileage from advancing a lot quicker than it typically would.
Therefore, by now you have understood the reasons behind hiring the professional cleaning service. In case you are looking for emergency Services Canberra, please feel free to contact us.

A Specialty Coffee Shop Tour of Melbourne
Melbourne has long been considered a global leader when it comes to specialty coffee, and its coffee shops and cafĂ©s are no different. Roasters have been improving their approach to technical aspects of sourcing, preparing, and consuming coffee, and coffee shops have updated their offerings to meet local tastes, as trends towards both adventurous and eco-conscious options.Â
Itâs no surprise then, that former World Barista Champion Pete Licata once said that itâs nearly impossible to find a bad cup of coffee in Melbourne.
Whilst the city is saturated with places where you can experience a great cup of coffee and satisfy your daily caffeine needs, the following five coffee shops would be a good place to start your exploration of what Melbourneâs coffee scene has to offer.

Why These Five?
With over 1600 cafĂ©s and restaurants in the city of Melbourne alone, it would take you several months to visit every coffee shop in the area â let alone select the ones offering a noteworthy specialty coffee offering. Choosing just five of them was no easy feat, and 2020 will do doubt introduce plenty more noteworthy coffee shops to Melbourne, and Australia in general.
The following five have been selected based on my personal experiences, as Iâve found them to offer an inclusive experience where you can immerse yourself in your surroundings, while appreciating the passion that goes into creating a cup of coffee.

1. Bonnie Coffee
Bonnie Coffee was founded by Melburnians Alex Zielke and Lloyd Smith, and has locations in both Melbourne and Sydney. Their philosophy is to âdo one thing, and do it wellâ, and you can witness this in action by visiting their Collins Street branch. Located in a heritage-listed building, they offer business people and passersby a pit stop, where they can experience five minutes of calm, and a friendly greeting from staff members.
Take time to catch up on the latest news while you wait for your order, as each dayâs newspaper will be pinned against the wall. Alternatively, feel free to ask staff members questions, as theyâre always open to teaching you a thing or two about how your coffee, and where it comes from.
While they currently source their coffee from producers around the world and roast it themselves, Bonnie Coffee has bigger plans for this year. Theyâre going to be introducing guest roasters on a quarterly basis, and finding ways to create a more inclusive coffee experience.

Boasting a French and Spanish food menu that changes seasonally, the Hardware Société first opened with the primary objective of serving food. Around eight years ago, it extended its offering by teaming up with speciality coffee roasters Padre in East Brunswick to have coffee roasted and supplied to their Melbourne and Paris branches.
They recently moved into new and more spacious premises, with a kitchen four times larger than their previous one, and seating for 110. Head there on a Friday evening to experience a taste of Paris in the heart of Melbourne, where you can enjoy French music, wine on tap and a selection of European-inspired dishes.
