"what are you doing?" he asked, gesturing to your limp figure. you prop yourself up on your elbows and stared back at cyno, "i wanted to feel like a leaf." you replied. cyno stared at you for a moment, before walking towards the windows. he reels the curtains back and shoves the window panels open, allowing a gush of wind in. intrigued, you stand up and watched as cyno began making his way back to you. "what are you doing?" you question cyno who was standing behind you now. cyno reaches under your arms and swiftly lifts you up, earning a shriek from you. "pretending that i'm a tree."

standing at the entrance of the cafe, the melusines snicker and giggle. they nudge your calves, signalling you to enter. hesitantly, you step foot into the quiet cafe. you looked around, trying to find the guy the melusines have been trying to set you up with for the past 2 months. you nervously searched, looking for a man who was sitting by himself. when your eyes landed on a secluded seat by the windows, you almost fainted. with languid footsteps, you walked towards neuvilette, who had noticed you when you walked in. neuvilette stood and pulled out your seat, "have a seat," you gave him a small smile as he settled back in next to you. "i remember you, i bumped into you a few months back," neuvilette said, eyebrows raised in amusement. that's when an epiphany hit the both of you, "oh." he mumbled. "that's why the melusines kept pestering me," you giggled, taking note of a few colourful animal ears poking out from the nearby window. "well, let's at least entertain their wishes for a little." neuvilette nods at your request, flipping open the menu.

"ow-" a quiet voice rang behind you and thoma. shuffling is heard as you turn to see a child laying face down on the concrete pavement. releasing your hold on thoma, you stepped closer to the boy. soft hazel eyes looked back at your own, glistening in the light. a smile etched itself onto your face as you extend a hand towards the boy, he hesitantly takes it as you gently lift him onto his feet. "are you okay?" you ask. the boy shyly nods, a wince escapes his lips just as quickly. glancing down at his limped foot, a small gash on his knee starts bleeding. with swift movements, you grab a napkin to gently dab at his wound. spectating from behind was an awestruck thoma, something felt so comforting about the interaction. without a silver of doubt and unequivocally, "she is the one."

SITUATIONSHIP—

alhaitham's embrace flushed against your weary skin. his room sat too silent yet too loud. the only sound you heard was the gentle beating of althaitham's heavy heart. his hands cradles your own, "i don't understand why you keep distancing yourself," a raspy whisper falls from your lips. alhatham instinctively draws your body closer to his own, his face moves towards the valley of your neck. feathery light touches grazes your forearm. "this was what i was worried about. you would be unhappy with how absent i am," the words hang coarsely in the air, cold to the touch but burning in your heart. you breathed in sharply. “this is why a relationship would be a bad idea.”

anger rose in your throat, “that's different. you're absent now because you're choosing to avoid me. you’re being selfish.” breaking free from his embrace, you turn and pin your fiery eyes against his emerald ones. however, he could only reply with a solemn look, “the probability this will turn out well is zero,” he replied. alhaitham knows how probability works, it can never truly be zero, but it can also never be ensured that this would turn out well. alhaitham is just a man that wouldn't take that risk.

curling in the comfort of your couch, you sulkily wolf down a bag of snacks. it has been officially 72 hours since the last time you heard back from diluc. the red headed man had disappeared without a word three days ago. after a night out, with a promise to pick you up the next day. it has been well over the decided time, and diluc is once again, a no show! a loud knock is heard against your door, there's a silent pause before another loud bang was heard. you pull your weight and drag yourself to the door. in front, diluc stood, a rare display of panic in his eyes, a bouquet of flowers clumsily clasped between his arm. you slant against the door frame, disappointed eyes stare back at his. "im so sorry, i just got so caught up on works and," he uncharacteristically fumbles over his words, guilt eats away at him as he eyes your sunken and tired eyes. you nod, looking at your feet. "i figured," there's a moment of ghostly silence. diluc hesitantly reaches forward, lightly resting his palm on your shoulder, testing the waters. when you don't push him away, firm arms wrap around your head, pulling you into his chest. a chaste kiss on your forehead, diluc gently rubs your back, "i'll make it up. i promise."

What would the yans (cyno tihnari) be as dads towards their respective children? Would they love their children or see them as a symbol of their darlings belonging to them?

Cyno and Tighnari love them from the bottom of their hearts. They are good dads!!

First is Cyno, from this windblume you can get some background information about him (err windblume spoiler, please play it first if you haven't) - He was adopted, protected and taught by a scholar, avoiding being a test subject. He even thinks that Lisa should be considered the older sister in the family because they are taught by the same professor. And he values his sibling relationship with Tighnari, Collei.

We can see that Cyno actually craves family connections and affection because he lost that from the beginning. He regards the little babies in his arms as his treasures, their kin in the world 🥺 he loves them without a doubt and has always protected them (and taught them how to play TCG). Sometimes, it can be a little overprotective. This of course also means a connection with you, a precious connection with you.

Then there's Tighnari - we've seen a lot of scenes where he takes care of people, but he doesn't treat them like family. The real family is with you, Cyno and Collei. He wanted a family from the very beginning, for him this is the happy life. He can teach them about caring for their fox tails and fur (and yes, applying plant-based waterproofing oil), teaching them about the forest and nature.

Of course...pregnancy is one of the ways they keep you, and watching your belly swell with their babies fills their hearts with joy. Just doesn't mean they don't love their babies.

author's thoughts. hello dear! i went with cyno for this particular post simply because i haven't really touched on what cyno would be like as a parental or otherwise male familial figure in any of my posts yet. i've done tighnari and kaveh as dads, but have never really talked about what cyno would be like as a father c: i projected all of my father issues onto this post LMAOOO

i personally think that cyno would be a slightly more strict father than some of the other sumeru characters.

he's not strict to the point where his child would not be able to trust him. he does not create a child that feels the need to lie and hide things from him. archons know he would never forgive himself if the child he loved so dearly was afraid of him to the point where they felt the need to be dishonest with him.

no, he does not raise a child like that. rather, cyno raises a responsible child who's first thought upon getting into trouble would be "i need to tell my dad" instead of "my dad is going to be so mad at me."

sure, he'll scold them if they get into trouble, especially trouble that could have been avoided, but punishing them for it? that's generally out of the question. they've likely already suffered the natural consequences of their actions. they don't need any more punishment than that.

he refuses to parent his child with fear.

he does not want terrified obedience. he wants genuine trust and respect. scaring his child into obedience would not create the respect he seeks.

cyno's coworkers probably think he's the cruelest, most emotionally unavailable father to ever exist LMAO

contrary to popular belief, cyno is neither of those things.

he's the kind of dad to cherish the moment rather than obsess over how that moment might impact their future. some fathers get angry when their child is resting during times they could be doing work. cyno does not. some fathers think that enjoying time with their children is a waste because said children could be doing work in that time. cyno does not.

i like to think he would encourage his child to go to the akademiya, but wouldn't push it. their value as his kid is not determined by academics or academic ability. if they don't want to go? cool. if they want to go? also cool, he'll just encourage them to be very careful and tell them to make sure that their classes don't consume their entire life.

after all, an excess of desire is a dangerous beast that needs to be tamed. cyno knows very well that this also applies to academics.

he will not raise his kid to believe that the pursuit of knowledge is more important than them as a person or more important than their health—mental, physical, or otherwise.

oh yeah, also...

bro makes ALL the dad jokes. he has told every single terrible dad joke imaginable.

he thrives on seeing his kid smile, even if they're laughing at how awful his jokes are rather than because they actually find the jokes funny. he just loves their smile.

Cyno has a clear soft spot for Collei and was the one to seal the archon residue for her (which I assume was because Lisa knew he’d suffered similar circumstances of divine possession when he was younger), and he placed her in the care of his most trusted friend where he knew she’d be looked after and be able to follow her dreams. Collei herself has made a lot of progress in being around Cyno despite the memories of the sealing, and even though he could’ve been considered as nothing more than her benefactor and her teacher’s friend, they’re still close! He and Tighnari even taught her their code from their school days! Also, with the context from story quest act 2, him helping Collei when they met really reads as him paying forward the protection and care Cyrus gave him as a child. The mantle of fatherhood is a heavy one but one he carries gladly..

You know how Cyno, Tighnari and Collei are basically a family (whether you ship Cynari or just view them as brothers). And now imagine Collei growing older and attending the academia going through all these stereotypical teenage dramas like having her first crush or attending student party and such. I just can't get the thought out of my head that Cyno would def turn into protective dad mode, like imagine this:

Here's an introduction to my genshin au, yes it's modern but I may have interpretated a few things, first of all, it's known as Modernized magic au (Acronym: MMAu)

Next hcs: Nationalities!

To start off, Venti, Zhongli, Ei & Makoto, Nahida, Furina, Murata, Tsaritsa and other god-like characters are all disguised as humans. (Makoto lives in this au)

The Fatui is the mafia for this au.

Sandrone and Dottore are related. (Uncle and niece) (Fun fact: Dottore got arrested for physical violence because he protected Sandrone)

Alrecchino and Eula are twin sisters.

Arlecchino has Spock/elf ears.

Xiangling, Xingqiu, Xu and Yelan are all siblings! (Xu is an npc but I gave him a vision, I see them as siblings)

Summary: After Cyno broke their engagement, Tighnari left Gandharva Ville. He returned years later so Collei could attend school there. Collei could see the unspoken feelings between Cyno and Tighnari and decided to help them get back together. Cyno couldn’t explain to Collei that he left Tighnari to protect him. (Modern AU)

“Once your class is over, Faruzan will drive you home. Dinner is in the fridge so no junk food. Make sure to lock the doors as soon as you’re inside.” Tighnari instructed Collei. She decided to attend a few classes at the university before she decided whether she should continue. He gave her a short tour around campus so she would be more familiar and comfortable with the university. “If you need me, I’ll be in the next building and you can ask Faruzan.”

“That’s Madame Faruzan to you, Tighnari. How can such a blunt man raise a polite girl like Collei? Don’t worry, Auntie Faruzan will give you the nurturing learning environment you deserve.” Faruzan stepped out of the classroom and folded her arms. She couldn’t maintain her stern expression for long before she hugged Collei. She was a close friend of their family and Collie saw her as an aunt. Tighnari was glad that she worked at the university.

“Though he can be strict with other people, Dad is a great teacher.” Even if he hadn’t adopted her, she admired how patient he was when he taught her. Her quick defence was only met with Faruzan and Tighnari chuckling lightly. She realized that they were only bantering with each other. Her gaze dropped to the ground, worried that she had offended Faruzan by talking back to her.

“It’s good that you learned to be outspoken from me so don’t look guilty like this.” Tighnari patted her head. He felt proud despite how she was still a teenager. He wondered how he would feel once she graduated. “I have to head to work but don’t be afraid to call me if anything happens. Have fun on your first day, Collei.”

They said their goodbyes and Collei started to walk into the classroom. She paused a few steps into the doorway and glanced around the room. The students were already seated at the tables in front of the podium. They appeared to be close friends and she felt hesitant to introduce herself to them. As Collei was deciding where to sit, she overheard Tighnari and Faruzan discussion in the hallway.

“Everyone was surprised that you came back to Gandharva Ville when Azar offered you a job. The Akademiya can provide you a better wage and unlimited grant money for your research.” Faruzan said. “There’s also your engagement. Cyno works here as head of the ethics committee. I thought you should know and prepare yourself before you run into him on campus.”

“You don’t need to worry about me, Faruzan. I already met him in the park and there was no yelling or crying from either of us. We’re both reasonable adults.” He reassured her. Collei recalled the first day they arrived and ate at the boulevard. She saw Tighnari speak with a man and he had a tense expression afterwards. She wanted to ask why because he looked so sad. “Cyno and I broke up years ago and romance is the last thing on my mind, let alone my ex-fiancé. I’m just here for Collei’s sake.”

Tighnari had adopted her years ago but he never mentioned a man named Cyno before. Despite his insistence that their break-up didn’t bother him, there was a tinge of regret in his voice. “I have to go to work, Faruzan. Please watch over Collei.”

Collei’s attention was pulled away from their conversation when she felt a light tug on her sweater. She looked down and was surprised to find a small girl with silver hair. She couldn’t be more than five so Collei wondered why she would be in the class. At first, Collei reasoned that she could be a child of a professor or an alumnus.

“Hello. Are you lost? I can help you find your parents.” Collei said to her.

“Do you know Professor Tighnari?” She asked and held her breath in anticipation as she waited for her answer. When Collei nodded, her face brightened. “I am Nahida and Cyno is my father! Cyno told me about Tighnari and how they used to date. That means we’ll be sisters if our fathers get back together. I’ve always wanted a sister.”

To counter any doubt Collei would’ve had with her claim, Nahida slipped out a photograph she had hidden in her notebook. She took the picture so she could ask Professor Faruzan if she knew how to make Cyno and Tighnari speak again. To her pleasant surprise, she found a better ally for her goal. Collei took the photo and recognized Tighnari. “You’re Cyno’s daughter so I understand why you want them back together. However, Tighnari doesn’t want to be with him. You should respect his feelings.”

“Tighnari is angry at Cyno but he only broke up with him to protect him from something! He didn’t tell me what it was but it’s more dangerous than a dragon. I’m sure they’ll understand each other’s feelings if they talk. Will you help me?” Nahida looked up at her with pleading and earnest eyes. Her expression reminded Collei of herself when she first met Amber. Collei had always wanted to be a sister figure like Amber but she believed she wouldn’t have the chance.

“Okay, I’ll try talking to my dad but no promises.” Collei told her. While she tried to assuage Nahida’s expectations so she wouldn’t be disappointed if Tighnari told her no, the little girl had a bright smile after her answer.

“I’m in Professor Faruzan’s preparatory program too so we can talk about our plan tomorrow.” She continued to surprise Collei. How intelligent was Nahida that she would be attending the class despite her young age.

Cyno sat at his desk and flipped through the report that Taj wrote about the Department of Botany’s failed project, Amurta. If their experiment was successful, they would’ve improved plant roots that would help preserve soil so farmland could be maintained longer. Taj’s investigation didn’t discover anything suspicious but Cyno wanted to refresh himself on the details. The department requested funding to restart the project and the report would help him prepare questions for the researchers.

There was a knock on his door and Cyno called for the person to enter. The last person he expected to see again walked into his office. Tighnari closed the door behind him and then crossed the room to his desk. He didn’t bother to sit down and Cyno knew it meant Tighnari planned to have a short, curt conversation with him.

“Since I will be joining the Amurta project, I thought we should talk. I don’t want our past relationship to affect our work. Please, investigate our project as you would with any other. I will report anything suspicious as well. That’s the type of person I am even if you might not trust that.” His words were sharp and the echo of their last conversation stabbed Cyno further.

Cyno searched for a response but he couldn’t think of the right words. He worried that anything he said would reveal his true feelings to Tighnari. Tighnari knew him better than most and he could seemingly read his mind. As much as he wanted to warn him about taking the job, it could also endanger Tighnari and the investigation.

“We weren’t able to talk in the park. What made you decide to come home?” Cyno started cautiously.

“You don’t need to phrase it like that, Cyno. This town hasn’t been my home for a long time. Just ask me directly. Why did you take this job? That’s what you wanted to ask.” He said and levelled his sharp eyes at him. Like Cyno expected, he saw through him quickly. Tighnari finally sat down and a long sigh escaped him. “I was going to refuse Azar’s job offer at first but then he said he could help Collei’s health and education. Collei is my daughter. You must understand my reason since you have a child too.”

Tighnari forced himself not to look at the clay bird on Cyno’s desk. The statue was mishappen and clearly made by a child. He was reminded that Cyno had moved on and it was better for both of them to focus on their family. Yet, a corner of his heart yearned for a future where he could’ve had a family with Cyno. Then, he thought of Collei and how happy he was when he adopted her. He needed to focus on the future for her sake instead of thinking of Cyno.

“I don’t believe there’s anything more we need to discuss. Goodbye, Cyno.” Tighnari rose from his chair and started to leave.

“Wait, Tighnari.” His name left Cyno before he could think better of it. Their last two conversations ended with him staring at his back leaving. This third time, he instinctively stopped him. Tighnari looked back at him, wariness and exhaustion in his green eyes. Cyno swallowed the words he wanted to tell him and, instead, said: “Rukkhadevata disappeared a year ago and I volunteered to watch her daughter until we find her. I’ve never been so lost in my life. Can you give me advice? You have a daughter.”

Tighnari vaguely remembered Rukkhadevata since she also worked with his former professor. She was a few years older than him so he didn’t know her well. However, Rukkhadevata was respected highly in the university as brilliant and innovative. She led the new Amurta project with Professor Naphis.

“Each child is different so I can’t give you advice for Nahida.” He was surprised to learn that Nahida wasn’t his daughter. On the other hand, he knew Cyno had a kind heart and he would try to help the child. Tighnari was happy that part of Cyno hadn’t changed. “You should talk to her about her interests, whether it’s games or shows.”

“You might not believe this but she likes my jokes. Want to hear a joke about construction? I’m working on it.” Cyno paused, waiting for Tighnari to laugh. He was met with a familiar groan and expression. He believed his joke had improved but it appeared Tighnari was unamused. “You see, my joke was about construction and building so—”

“I understood the joke, Cyno. I didn’t find it particularly funny.” Tighnari said and relaxed back into the chair. He didn’t laugh at his joke but the atmosphere became less tense. He rested his chin in his hand and flicked his hair from his forehead. The small action drew Cyno’s attention to his unique eyes. The way his face softened reminded him of when they were students and in love.

“Nahida likes books. She wants me to read to her every night but there are times I don’t get home until midnight. Sometimes, I think it would be better for her to grow up with a better parent. The only thing I can do for her is find her mother.”

“You’re giving her a home where she can wait for that day to come.” Tighnari remembered the orphanage he found Collei in. He knew that there were good and bad homes orphans were sent to but a child shouldn’t have to face that uncertainty. He promised to give Collei the stable life she deserved. “Collei wants to become a doctor. She’s a bright child but I was worried about her education. I’m glad this university will give her more opportunities.”

Cyno could hear how much Tighnari cared for his daughter. A part of him worried that Azar manipulated that so Tighnari would take the job. Since Tighnari was one of their most talented graduates, they would send him job offers and opportunities often. He refused each one.

“You can come to me for anything you and Collei needs. If your professor or Azar acts strange, can you report it to me?” Cyno asked.

His question crashed over Tighnari like cold water. He almost allowed himself to fall into a comfortable conversation with Cyno. However, the mention of his professor and Azar reminded Tighnari that Cyno valued his job more than their relationship.

“Collei and I are able to get by on our own. It’s time for me to go. I didn’t come to catch up with you.” Tighnari started to leave the office but his hand stopped over the doorknob. He glanced back to Cyno and added: “Good luck with Nahida. You’ll be a better father than a fiancé, I’m certain. Goodbye.”

During his conversation with Cyno, Tighnari claimed that Gandharva Ville was no longer his home. He wanted to move on from their relationship and their small town. Nevertheless, returning to the Pardis Dhyai and its colourful array of plants felt like a homecoming. Sumeru City’s extravagant lab couldn’t compare to the greenhouse. They housed a variety of plants and Kaveh designed the arrangement to create a beautiful portrait from their colours and smooth textures.

Professor Naphis ended their experiment for the night and most of the staff left already. Tighnari stayed behind in the research facility to read over the observation tables. He was nothing if not dedicated to his work. Naphis emailed him a summary of their Amurta project but Tighnari thought it was best to familiarize himself with the details. Their goal was to improve plant roots so they could help restore the land. He found that they hadn’t made a lot of progress though.

His eyes narrowed at the inconsistent numbers and diagrams in the chart. He wondered if they were truly researching roots or something else. He copied down a few of the reports in his notebook so he could look over them in detail once he was home. The university forbade the staff from taking their research outside of Pardis Dhyai. Tighnari understood that it was to keep their research confidential but the restrictions were annoying barriers.

On the table, his phone blinked to life and he read the text Collei sent him. She wished him goodnight and he realized how much time had passed. It was nearly ten o’clock and he should’ve drove home hours ago. Tighnari gathered the reports and returned them to the locked safe. He needed to be careful with the research papers or else someone could steal them before they were published.

He turned off the lights at his workstation and went to return the safe’s key to the front desk. As Tighnari was leaving the greenhouse, he paused next to a patch of primroses that only bloomed in the moonlight. It was a rare sight and he took out his phone to take a picture. In the flash of his phone camera, he noticed a shadow of a person. Tighnari was certain that he was the only person in the botanical garden after the staff left.

The logical side in him told him that shouldn’t be overly suspicious of a mere shadow because it could be a janitor or security guard. Tighnari held the keys to the safe in his hand and cautiously walked towards the direction of the shadow. His voice echoed against the glass walls. “Excuse me, Pardis Dhyai is closed to students after four.”

No one answered him. Tighnari’s suspicion grew and he decided to search for the person. He recalled his professor’s warning. He didn’t know whether their goal was to steal the research papers but he couldn’t risk them damaging the garden in their search. With his sharp hearing, he made his way through the darkness.

He looked down at his phone and considered texting Cyno. Cyno could help him find the intruder quickly. Before he was head of the ethics committee, he used to be a security guard and helped Taj’s investigations. Tighnari shook the thought from his mind and he continued searching by himself. He didn’t know whether Cyno had changed his phone number.

Tighnari heard the grass rustle behind him and assumed that it was the intruder. He turned on his heel with his fist raised. The person grabbed his wrist before he could strike him. Tighnari started to fight back until he recognized that the footsteps were different from the intruder. “Cyno, what are you doing here?”

“I saw someone in Pardis Dhyai and I came to see who it could be. Are you working this late?” He asked. Tighnari scanned the garden around them and Cyno could read his expression. His brows furrowed in thought and his ears flattened slightly. “Did something happen?”

“I heard someone in the greenhouse when I was about to leave. I don’t hear their footsteps anymore so they might’ve left already. Professor Naphis warned me that someone might try to steal our research paper. I should tell him what happened tonight. Damn, I probably need to make a report with the security team too. It’s already late and I need to get home.”

“I’ll handle the report for you.” Cyno offered. Tighnari appeared more frustrated with the possible intruder than scared yet Cyno still felt protective of him. “Do you want me to drive you home, Tighnari? I have to search the greenhouse for the person or anything he left behind first. That should only take me a few minutes though. You should wait outside.”

“Searching Pardis Dhyai will be faster if we work together. Fennec foxes have sharper senses and I can see whether the flowers have been disturbed.” Tighnari said and turned on the desk light. Most would agree with Cyno’s suggestion but Tighnari wasn’t the type to hide behind a person. He was the last scientist to leave Pardis Dhyai so it was his responsibility to oversee its safety. “It’s best if I drive myself home. I can’t leave my car here overnight.”

“Alright.” Cyno didn’t insist further. They broke up years ago and Tighnari didn’t hide how angry he still was with him. He knew that Tighnari was a strong man yet he was protective of him. There had been a few suspicious sightings within Pardis Dhyai. From experience, Cyno assumed that someone wanted to steal the group’s findings or plagiarize their work. “Next time you hear anything strange again, you should call me or security. My number hasn’t changed but I’ll give it to you again.”

Cyno took a pen from the desk and he started to write down his number. Then, Tighnari said: “I still have it so don’t waste the paper. Let’s search the greenhouse so we can go home.”

Cyno definitely enjoys having a family. He loves being a father to Collei and coparenting with Tighnari. That is the bare minimum though. Because Cyno would actually adore having more kids down the line and eventually retiring and living in a more stable home someday.

He's not old but he wants to have a family and be the fun, goofy dad that's also mildly strict with his kids cause he wants them to grow up smart and strong and safe. Cyno would do anything to protect his family -- partner and kids, because they make him so happy.
