Modern Aocorro high school au: what if Spider was a harpist in his high school orchestra and Ao'nung was down bad about it.
Spider was already your classic high school heart throb. He was popular, buff, handsome, a little rough around the edges, yet still a total sweetheart.
For Eywa's sake, he carpooled his siblings to school or rode his skateboard to school, volunteered around town 24/7, used reusable straws, he'd hand his pocket change to anyone in need, and was known for getting into fights with bullies in the parking lot.
Not to mention that he had the prettiest golden curls and brown eyes anyone had ever seen (at least in Ao'nung's opinion).
So to say Ao'nung was crushing, hard, was probably the understatement of the century, and could you even blame him? The guy was perfect, an angel, and it was driving him insane.
He'd catch himself staring during gym practice, marveling at his muscles, cheeks flushing, or in the locker room when he took his shirt off to change, his heart pounding away in his chest.
he thought he couldn't be even more down bad for that boy than he already was, his confident personality rendered null and void when he was around, his tongue caught in the back of his throat, unable to do so much as squeak at him… until the day he caught him in the orchestra room, practicing.
Now, he had heard Spider was in orchestra and had even seen him rolling around some large black case around the school before, but he'd never actually caught what he played.
But walking past that half-opened door was how he found out the love of his life wasn't only a sweet handsome hunk of a guy, but he played the harp, the instrument of an angel.
The sheer audacity of this boy was getting out of hand, he swore to Eywa, he was gonna kill him one of these days with his impossibly hot antics.
He stands and watches as Spider presses up against his harp, eyes focused on his sheet music, hair tied up in a messy bun but a single golden curl hangs he keeps blowing out of his face, and his fingers strum along the strings, working the muscles throughout his hands and arms.
The sound of gentle music flowed from the gap in the door, and it sounded just as pretty as Spider looked, soft and sweet, but still robust, still full of base and bravado. It was so fitting.
Watching Spider's face quirk with focus and frustration and pride as he worked through the song made the other's heart swoon, he swore it must be palpating or maybe skipping beats. He just knows it wasn't beating right, especially as he rubs his hand over his chest and feels how heavy it beats against his ribs.
And thats when Spider just so happens to turn to see who was gawking at him from the hallway, and instead of telling him to stop staring or throwing a pissed-off glance like Ao'nung is sure most other's would do if they caught someone staring like he had been, Spider just smiled.
"Like what you hear?" he quipped, leaning forward to turn the page of his music binder.
"Y-Yeah, yeah, you're... amazing," he choked out an answer, coughing into his fist to try and cover up the stammer in his voice and the blush on his cheeks.
"You flatter me," he replied, sitting back and looking Ao'nung right in the eye before he looked away with an even brighter smile, and it was like his skin was set on fire by just that single glance. "Are you gonna come in or are you gonna keep standing out their like some weirdo?"
"Oh, I-I wouldn't want to bother, I was j-just passing by,"
"It's free period, it's why I'm in here all by my lonesome," he puts on a fake pout and bats his lashes in his direction for show, "keep my company yeah? I'm sure you've got nothing to do if you've already spent so much time staring."
He moved his bag off the chair next to him before patting it.
"Sit," his tone was warm and inviting and his eyes were soft and almost pleading, so he did, with a deep breath, he sat next to the other boy.
He managed to be even prettier up close, and Ao'nung had to tear his eyes away so he didn't make a fool of himself. He decided to turn his attention to the harp. It was beautiful, made of a soft, warm-toned wood, intricately carved and painted with the image of flowers he couldn't name off the top of his head.
"She's a beauty isn't she?" Spider asked
he only nodded at first, before feeling the urge to touch, his hand moving before he could think better of it, but he managed to stop himself before he made contact with he wood.
"Can I?" he asked, quite pitifully, finally making his own eye contact with the blonde. Eywa save him, he was too pretty, it was unfair. He felt butterflies tickling his stomach and his head getting fuzzy. Why didn't he run when he had the chance?
"Go ahead," he answered with a huff of laughter.
He tried to steady himself as he stroked a hand down the curved wood that he saw resting against Spider's chest earlier when he was playing, feeling the warmth from the other boy's skin still clinging to the wood.
His fingers sought out the strings Spider's rested on moments ago, the metal threading bit into his flesh ever so slightly when he ran his fingers down them.
"I catch you staring all the time y'know, you're not very good at hiding it."
Ao'nung feels his heart drop through the floor and into the stone-cold basement beneath them. Fuck. He fucked up, he fucked up so bad, Spider must think he's a freak-
"It's cute."
"What?" he didn't mean to ask that out loud, but when he did, he said it far too loud.
Spider just laughs at him, gently and without malice, his eyes crinkling into almost nothing, his cheeks going a little red, his nose scrunching a little. Ao'nung feels his heart swell.
"Oh, it's never subtle, especially since you turn bright red, and the second you realize I'm looking back, you turn tail and run away like you have the devil on your heels," he pauses to wipe the tears from his eyes, "It's just cute, adorable even. I kinda like having a not so secret admirer."
"You don't think I'm some total freak?"
"Nah dude.... who's to say I'm not staring back?" he said nonchalantly.
Ao'nung was sure his brain was melting, cause he just found out his crush might like him back? Potentially. And that was just simply mind-boggling, cause, he wasn't gonna sell himself short, but he never thought he could be on Spider's radar.
They hung out with different people, and he used to be an ass to his siblings before he transferred to be here, and sure he apologized and made up with them, he always seemed to hold a bit of a grudge.
"You are?" he had to ask.
"Mmmmmm, maybe a little," he replied with a cheeky grin plastered on his face. "I will admit, at first it was because I was trying to make sure you weren't being an ass, but, things might be changing."
Ao'nung nodded to himself, clearing his throat, trying to decipher what that could even mean. Was Spider saying he was starting to like him too? did he have a shot with him?
"Listen, the bells about to ring, so why don't I give you this," he pulled a pen from the spine of his binder, tearing the corner off of one of his sheet music, which felt oddly intimate, and wrote something down on it, before handing it to him.
It was his number. Spider just gave him his number.
"Text me? we can start gettign to actually know each other, and maybe you could start joining me in here during free period, I could give you some lessons on the harp if you'd like?" now Spider sounded a little sheepish.
Which somehow made Ao'nung feel a bit more confident, so for the first time in seemingly forever, he answered Spider with some level of confidence.
"Yeah, I'd like that, I'd like that a lot."
"Good, good, I'd like that too."
They were both smiling now. The bell rang. They both hesitated to break eye contact.
"I'll text you, promise." Eywa, he was making promises. Already. He really was a hopeless sap. But it felt right when Spider huffed a laugh at it, a hand coming up to cover his smile a little. He was flattered.
"You better, stalker," Spider laughed, finally starting to pack up his stuff.
"Rude," he faked a gasped, lingering in the door, knowing he had to get to class, and he needed to let Spider pack up so he wouldn't be late himself, but wanting to let the moment last just a little longer.
"I think staring is rude, but I think I'll give you a pass, so long as you stop running away when I catch you, deal?"
"Deal."
"And you have to meet me here tomorrow."
"I will, it's a date," the words slipped out of his mouth without thinking about how it could be interpreted, "oh, not like-"
"It's a date" Spider repeated.
Ao'nung found he could only nod. It's a date. Even if it wasn't like that, it was still nice to think about. a date with an angel.
"Now go, before you're late, wouldn't want you to get in any trouble." Spider crossed his arms and jutted out his hip like he was some disappointed mom or something.
"Right, bye Spider."
He waved goodbye. It was corny and childish, but he waved. Spider waved back. He had his number clutched tightly in his other palm. Spider had his phone clutched in his hands as if he couldn't wait for the message to come any longer.
"Bye Stalker."
He has a feeling he's gonna have to get used to that nickname, but as he rounds the corner, his chest still feeling warm and full of butterflies, he doesn't think he minds all that much.

Chapter 3 WIP (Unbetaed)
Crumbs for the the TigerSeal and SeaMonkey fans. So if you've been wondering where I've been, I got diagnosed with epilepsy. So I got put on some meds that make me hella tired. Like all the time. I would sleep 15 hours a day if you let me. So it's been a struggle to get this next chapter up and rolling. But I'm close to finishing it. Afterwards I'll send it to my Beta (I feel so cool saying that), then I'll get it all posted on AO3, God bless that site.
Enjoy~
__________________________
“Jake Sully,” Somehow, he’s been expecting this all night. But he still wishes he could have another day to mentally prepare himself. He throws a casual look over his shoulder to spot Ao’nung behind him, glancing at him almost shyly.
“Yes?” He sighs. He doesn’t want to give him the wrong impression, he’s started liking Ao’nung more. After he got over the Metkayina calling his daughter a freak, picking a fight with his kids, and almost killing Lo’ak. But hey, everyone makes mistakes, right?
“I want to court Spider.” He’s blunt and staring Jake in the eyes. Almost like it’s a challenge, like he’s ready to fight. Jake can almost appreciate the little spitfire, but after the tongue lashing from Norm and Max earlier…he’s caught between a rock and a hard place.
“Yeah?” He acknowledged with some gravel in his voice.
“…Yes.” The other held some confusion in his eyes. His blue eyes wandering over Jake’s slumped form, trying to get a read on him. “I don’t know what I’m doing though.” This draws a snort out of him. Took a big man to admit when he’s lost. Maybe Ao’nung is maturing.
“How so?” He raised an eyebrow and patted the ground beside. He had decided to take a little detour back to the center beach, where the adults are still celebrating, after laying Tuk down for bed. He was going to send Spider, Kiri and Lo’ak to sleep when he got back, but he wanted to give them a little more time with their friends. Now the current bane of his existent came and found him.
The younger man sat down on the beach as Jake observed the sky. “I… I don’t … There’s a lot.” Ao’nung breathed after a moment. His shoulders slumping, mirroring Jake’s posture.
“Well, find your first question.” He laughed, turning to watch Ao’nung roll his eyes, tail twitching as he digs his fingers through the sand.
“Is Spider old enough to be courted?” He questions after a moment. His gaze fixated on the sand below him and his ears are pinned back, distraught. Jake can almost feel pain. Dating someone younger than you can be a risky game, especially when they’re a different species with different aging practices.
“Dating.” Jake corrects him and looks up at the sky again. Finding the star that supposedly his first home orbits around. “We call it dating. And yes, he’s old enough to go on dates with you.” Norm’s going to tear him a new one. Max will stitch him up just to tear him a second one.
“It’s where you do courting practices, but you don’t mate even if you think your ready, at least not yet, he’s not old enough for sex, okay?” It feels dirty coming out of his mouth, like ash and acid. Yet, he needs to set some boundaries, some lines in the sand. He’s the only one here who understands how human teens work, kind of.
“Okay.” Ao’nung nods, good, he sounds accepting.  “How do I court the human way?”
“Why do you want to do it the human way?” Jake finds himself suspicious. Not that anything Ao’nung says doesn’t make sense, but why is he going so left field for someone’s who’s so different from him. Jake had to learn the Na’vi way, because he was on Eywa’eveng. Ao’nung doesn’t need to go out of his way to learn another culture.
“He’s ashamed to be human.” Ao’nung tells him after a moment of internal debate. He’s confident in his answer, sounds like he and Spider have already had a conversation. “I don’t want Spider to be ashamed of what he is, or who he is. So, I want to prove to him that I accept all of him. Even the parts he doesn’t like so much.”
He’s not exactly sure how to feel about this. It’s a lot for his jar head to take in. Ao’nung trying to do this the right way. And shouldn’t Jake want the best for Spider? Someone who wants to make him happy and feel like he belongs? Still, shouldn’t that have been him? What if Spider end up with Daddy issues and acts out later in life? He could get self-destructive, well more self-destructive, or codependent on Ao’nung.
“Humans are different from Na’vi, Ao’nung, you know this. From how they look, to how they show affection.” He grabs Ao’nung by the shoulder, needing the other to look him in the eye. “They can’t form a tsaheylu, ever. Are you okay that?” Because he doesn’t want Ao’nung to regret his decision ten years down the line and start resenting his baby. It would be unfair to both of them.
“With him, I don’t need one.” Ao’nung clasps a hand over his forearm. The grip just as tight as his hand on the Metkayina’s shoulder. “I want him the way he is.”
It soothes a part of his soul. Jake’s gone through most of his life without a bond. But after experiencing it, he’s not sure he could go back. It was like an addiction. The peace of mind his mate gave him. A safe space that only he and she were allowed to curl up into. Ao’nung would never have that.
“If you’re serious about this, I need to warn you that humans don’t mature until twenty-five. That means he’s still changing a bit, figuring out who he is.” Jake retracts his hand and throws it over his bend knee. “I wouldn’t change being with Neytiri for anything, but I was twenty-two when she and I bonded. I was still figuring out my place in the world, but she helped me through it. Spider may not be the same person he is now.”
He notices the way Ao’nung closes his eyes and smiles. “Then he is like the sea. It’s never same.”

My Avatar Airbender OC (maybe more of a -sona)
Years ago (probably ten) I made a Korra era avatar-sona who was an airbender from the Southern Water Tribe. My old art of this character is… Well, I'll just say I chose to update my art instead of posting the old art.
Why an airbender from the Southern Water Tribe? Well, because my sun sign is Libra (an air sign), and both my moon and rising are Pisces (a water sign). So, yeah.
OC lore below the cut:
Anouk is a nonbender from the Southern Water Tribe. She grew up in the village of Tigerseal Cove. Though a nonbender, Anouk would regularly wander off alone to practice waterbending forms as a way to exercise and relax.
After the Water Tribe civil war and the reopening of the Spirit Portals, Anouk noticed an odd thing during exercise one afternoon. A strong breeze whisked by every time she performed a variation she had developed on one particular waterbending form she enjoyed.
WOOSH!
"That's weird! Does it happen every time?"
WOOSH! … WOOSH!
"Okay, what is going on here?"
Anouk wouldn't find any answers in her tiny hometown. So she set out for the capital to ask the most respected waterbending Master of the South. One who just so happened to have been married to an airbender. Master Katara. Surely she would know what was going on.
Master Katara was gobsmacked. A new airbender?! It couldn't be! She urged Anouk to travel to Republic City to see her son, Tenzin, and ask him for help. And that's how this nonbender nobody from podunk icebergland wound up training under Master Tenzin to become a member of the new Air Nomads.

tigersiblings thoughts are in my head
So i always found it really interesting that in tpb, there was a lot of attention on Bramblekit/paw being Tigerclaws kit, notably because he looked exactly like him, giving Fireheart a heart attack every time he sees him. This caused Goldenflower to be protective over him and made Fireheart decide to mentor him himself in order to keep an eye on him, but also to give him a chance to be the kind of respected, strong, good warrior Tigerclaw could have been. I also imagine being the apprentice of the deputy, later leader, saved Bramble from at least some of the hostility as tigerspawn.
Tawny, however, does not seem to get that special attention, and must feel like Goldenflower (who only aims to protect both of them but Bramble is the one Firestar worries about) favours her brother. Her mentor Brackenfur is just a random young warrior at that point, being apprenticed to him is no special honour. For bonus drama points i headcanon that she overheard parts of the conversation between Fireheart and Sandstorm, with Fire telling Sand (who is overdue for her first apprentice) that he wont let her mentor Tawny, consolidating her belief that she will never have a chance to be accepted, not even to prove herself in the way Bramble gets to.
It is canon to me that Tawny really looks up to Sandstorm as the best hunter of the Clan and an overall strong, respected, awesome warrior, cmon tawny said as a kit that she also wants to be the best hunter, this makes so much sense!
She does get targeted for who her father is, though, and it really gets to her, making her feel like she has no place in ThunderClan, will never be fully accepted there and would be better off with her father in ShadowClan. And then her own family barely try to stop her? Bramble was sad for like 5 seconds and then just said okay if thats her choice bye forever:) girl that is your SISTER and the only cat that really understands your struggles rn!
I wish this sibling relationship had mattered more. The potential of Bramble trying to be close to Hawkfrost, bonding over their heritage, as an attempt to have what he cannot ever have again with Tawny because he let her leave... The fact that both of them chose to follow their father once and the complex feelings thaese incidents caused... man. Actually Goldenflower and her realtionship with her kits shouldve also mattered more.
In conclusion why isnt there a book focussing on bramble and tawny as kits

It all happened so fast. Enok had been calling so loud his voice cracked, seeking out Rika who wouldn't be far behind. She had been asleep but not even she would have slept through that.
One moment Enok was in tears screaming, the next he was wrapped in a hug that almost seemed to be squeezing the life outta him. "I got'cha, little mate. It's alright." Bo made sure to pat him on the back - a hearty Galahdan thump before he was pulling back. Used his own thumbs to mop away some of the tears. "Don't cry. My face ain't that bad lookin, eh." An easy joke to break some of the tension as Rika made herself known. "Enok?!"
Enok did not even understand what was going on. What happened? And why? What was all the loud noise? The orange light in their village? And why had their parents told them to run to the beach?
He hadn’t wanted to go. He had wanted to stay with Mama and Papa. Or aunt Elna and uncle Rikard. Only Rika running, too, had made Enok run. As fast as his short legs could’ve run.
But being alone and not understanding anything had made the boy panic again. Never had he been so afraid. And he didn’t even know, why. But not even when a wild beats had entered their village at night had the adults acted like this, so… what was going on?
Bo’s joke had distracted him, stopped his tears. But Rika’s voice immediately made him turn and run to her to hug her tightly.
“Rika! What is goin’ on?! Why did Mama tell us to go here?! It’s night!”
His terrified questions would be answered with a deep growling noise - the barked orders and screaming of other people. It came from the village, nestled between rocks and trees. The orange glow were flames… but it was far too bright to be their usual nightly firepits. Enok knew that much.
Bo’s hands laid on both his and Rika’s shoulders as his eyes were glued to where the village laid, too. But he had caught his bearings again much faster.
“We should go to my boat. We can sail out a few miles, stay there. Just until…”
But the teenager’s plan was quickly disrupted by the little boy’s argument - completely unaware of the true dangers circling in on them. Enok’s hands fisted into Bo’s and Rika’s tunics.
“We have to go back! I forgot tigerseal!”

Enok didn’t like it here. It was cold. And dark. And wet.
There were so many other people. He didn’t know any of them. But… they had been kind enough. Others from islands like his own. He remembered falling from the small boat, where some adults had gathered all the other children. He had seen Rika on another boat, had waved to her, called for her. But there had been a loud noise. And fire. And suddenly he had been in the water.
He could swim.
But he had been scared. So, when the net first had tangled around him, he had been relieved to be pulled out of the waters. But the ship that had saved him… it was of the bad people.
He had cried a lot. No attempt from the older Galahdans to cheer him and other children up had worked. No blanket around him had made him feel any warmer. And yet… Enok didn’t truly understand how bad their situation was. The bliss of ignorance and childhood just left him confused as to why this all was happening. He knew nothing of any horrors beyond those in fairy tales.
I want to go home.
I want Mama and Papa.
I want tigerseal…
It had become quieter. The girl that Enok had talked to sometimes, had even played with in the darkness, one day didn’t wake up anymore. And the adults said she was with Mahasra now. But where was Mahasra and why did she let all this happen? Had they not been good enough?
The only thing that reminded them of their goddess were the angry waves clashing against a grey and dark coast. Not even the sunlight could make the cliffs seem warm. Enok held his head down. Just looking at the small rocks right on front of his feet as he followed along. Looking up was scary. There were so many bad people. With whips. Enok hadn’t known that whips like these existed. He knew those for the cattle. But those were made from twigs, and just to tap at the animals’ backs to make them go a certain way. Not like this. Loud and scary.
The strange collar around his neck was heavy. It pushed his shoulders down – and made it hard to look at the ground. Forced to look up like this, the boy blinked against the sun. There were so many others. He could hear crying and distant screams. Some called names. But the whips were louder.
Were Mama and Papa here, too? Rika? Uncle and Auntie?
Looking around, Enok stumbled when his group was made to walk over the beach towards where big trunks had been buried into the ground. Fences made of fallen trees with no branches and leaves. Guards on horses with weapons looked down on them like hawks did when they looked for prey. Dogs barked.
Move. Go on. Don’t look at me. Shut up.
Those were the orders. And Enok was too scared to find out what would happen if he disobeyed. Because if you didn’t walk, if you didn’t go on, if you looked up… all the people who dared to do that got beaten with a whip. Or taken away. Kicking and screaming. Or all quietly, their feet dragging in the stone leaving lines like waves.
Some of the guards came close. They grabbed arms and heads. Turned chins. Opened jaws. Determined who was healthy enough to still be worth something. And who was ill and closer to death than life – there was no use in keeping those around. Who was too weak was freed from the iron shackle – and shoved to a slowly growing group that was led away. Out of sight. To the cliffs.
Somehow it was this that made Enok balk. Being grabbed. Having his face held tight. He had been quiet for so long and he had missed being held by someone. But not like this. This wasn’t a warm hug or friendly game of hide and seek.
Tumblr media
“Let me!”, he screamed, trying to get away and then bite the guard. His teeth wouldn’t have pierced through the leather gloves anyway, but the surprised yell from the guard suggested he hadn’t expected this kind of rebellion from a child. The surprise quickly turned into anger, but Enok had already buried his hands deep into the clothes of the adult right in front of him. Holding onto the other islander, who had just gotten his teeth checked like he was nothing more than a dog, and hiding his face in the beige garments while still screaming.
“Let me! Go away! I want to Mama and Papa! Go away!”
@enokvirkow | Noak Adraav
There was a heaviness as Noak came to. He had been fading in and out, treading that delicate thread between life and the brilliant light of beyond. He struggled to make out anything in the dim and the damp.
«"He's alive!"» An unfamiliar voice announced in shock. Their words were familiar, though their accent was a far cry from the harsh northern isles he called home. It belonged to the south where seafarers often exchanged words and goods with farflung trade ships.
He attempted to sit and found himself supported by the stranger's arm. «"Where am I?"» And why did he feel like he was being weighed down by an anchor...?
«"No one knows."» The stranger answered him cryptically. It was the honest truth. «"Foreign trade ships have captured us, we are at the mercy of the mother's seas. She has been fighting but she doesn't wish to claim us in her anger."»
A frown etched across Noak's brow. His memory failed him, a great darkness shrouded whatever had led him to this ship. The last thing he remembered, the very last, he returned from the local market a few fish lighter and with enough rice to share for a feast. He... would meet the Virkow's... but what had happened?
There were few more questions. He was offered what precious water still remained, and bit by bit he realised how dire the situation was.
He was surrounded by fellow islanders, most of which had been beaten down and left to lament as prisoners below the massive deck of a foreign trade ship. If there were any familiar faces, they were distant ones, people he had met in passing.
Apparently this wasn't the only ship. There was talk about people being separated, an act Noak couldn't possibly recall when he wasn't even certain when everything had gone wrong.
The days bled into weeks. Their rations were few, and already there was the stench of death around them. Little wonder there was a great wariness when the doors were thrown open to blinding sunlight and orders were barked down upon them. Slow shuffling quickened at the crack of a whip and one by one the heavy collar around their necks were shackled to a body in front and behind until they were splintered into small, dazed groups.

They had landed on a beach without sand. There were small smooth rocks instead, something Noak had never encountered before. His attention drifted to the fleet of ships anchored off the coast. Others were being shackled into groups and sorted out in a first wave of activity.
Where they were headed, not even the goddess could know.
