The Fate of RiverClan & Tigerstar's Ambition
Tumblr media
With “Shadow” dropping tomorrow, I felt it fitting to talk about the THIRD instance of RiverClan being subjugated in Warriors history.  RiverClan really can’t ever catch a break from being preyed upon by others with awful motives backed up with ruthless might.
First, Tigerstar, then Darktail, and finally, "I’m nothing like the first Tigerstar" Tigerstar II.
With the current takeover by Tigerheartstar at the end of Sky, I imagine it’s only a matter of time before RiverClan makes a huge play for their uprising and total independence.
But in the meantime, I have way too many speculations to keep them to myself, so get ready! Spoilers, lengthy ramblings, and predictions ahead for ‘A Starless Clan’ down below regarding Tigerstar II and the fate of our favorite water lovin' kitties.
First thing first, I want to ask the general question: ● Should the Clans be able to hold power over each other?
No, they shouldn't. And I really hope the other Clans have something to say about Tigerstar’s takeover in Shadow.
We’ve seen this happen in clan history, where an ambitious cat takes over another or banishes another clan entirely. But it’s never praised or culturally accepted by others.
"There must always be four clans" has been a constant moral within the clans for a long time, and only those with a hunger for power have ever attempted to remove or subjugate clans.  Brokenstar leading constant attacks on WindClan, which eventually led to a full-scale battle where they were driven from clan territory altogether. No one other than ShadowClan was okay with this.
Tigerstar the first taking control of RiverClan to create TigerClan, and as we know, this resulted in great tragedy for RiverClan. Also, let’s not forget Dead Tigerstar’s plans with Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw to divide the clans up and rule them - which Hawkfrost was absolutely okay enforcing.  We’ve seen Clans merge peacefully to strengthen their forces in order to take on a common threat- via LionClan. But each clan leader led and planned together with equal power. And there definitely wasn't any gladiatorial culling of half-clan cats being done...
And the only time we see the clans mutually agree to a banishing was for ancient SkyClan. No, the clans didn’t force SkyClan off their land, but they didn’t raise a paw to help their neighbors while they struggled to survive.
● What are the motives behind hostile takeovers?
I highly doubt Tigerstar II truly has good intentions for RiverClan, given how he forcibly took control of their camp and demanded the submission of RiverClan warriors. Even if he has no intentions of taking permanent ownership of RiverClan, he’s obviously fine with backing up his plans with unnecessary physical violence and subjugation.  Clans have lent help to others in the past before, but the clear difference between Firestar sending aid and Tigerheartstar ‘sending aid’ is - FORCE.
Remember when Onestar basically disowned Firestar, refusing any more of his or ThunderClan’s influence over WindClan? Did Firestar just show up with his strongest warriors and forcibly help them, because it was "for their own good?"
No, he did not. Isn’t this situation, in some way, shape, or form, like what happened to ShadowClan with Sol and Darktail...?  Someone coming in with the guise of helping others, or pretending to be friendly, but in truth, had intentions of taking power away through manipulation and strength to suit their own agendas?
ShadowClan didn’t like that very much, did they?  Just ask the cats killed by The Kin or the ones left alive with lingering trauma from seeing their loved ones murdered or imprisoned.
Sol and Darktail both had ulterior motives when making themselves comfy among the clans, which resulted in grave consequences.
- Sol wanted the clans to abandon StarClan because he felt betrayed by them.  - Darktail wanted to destroy the Clans because of his hatred and for what Onestar did to him.
So what does Tigerstar want..? What are his ambitions?
Ambition can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you plan to employ it.  The conflict between ShadowClan and SkyClan in over hunting grounds was ugly and should have been handled better. But at its core, I feel like it can be said that Tigerstar's aggression was primarily on behalf of ShadowClan's well-being. Not that he simply wanted to horde territory for the sake of it. He didn’t beat SkyClan into a bloody pulp and force them out like Brokenstar did WindClan, and he did divide some land to give SkyClan their territory at the end.
Tigerstar's no stranger to starting conflicts, being bull-headed, and acting with aggression, and he’s definitely made bad choices, but I feel his actions are a far cry from sinister.
So the question is: what changed? He’s never been shown as a character who is adamant about strictly following the code or punishing people out of some twisted sense of self-righteousness. But now we have this flip where he's fiercely determined to make RiverClan submit to his guidance. For what- we have yet to find out. Let’s speculate.  ● Does he genuinely want the best for RiverClan and to help them find a new leader so they don’t fall apart?  RiverClan may be leaderless and lacking sturdy guidance, but they are far from being unable to survive and take care of themselves. They’re not starving, dealing with serious wild threats, or struggling with sickness, where they would need immediate aid.
So no- that can’t be Tigerstar’s reasoning. At least, not the core of it, anyway.
● Is he helping them out of the kindness of his own heart? Yeah, fuck no. Obviously not.
Tumblr media
● He’s truly becoming evil and wants them to suffer at his will? He’s not a warmongering, evil-doer with an insatiable thirst for power like Tigerstar or Brokenstar, so I would say no. I don't know how I would feel about if that's the plan for his character arc...
However, since his return to ShadowClan and wanting to rebuild their strength and respect again, I have a sneaky suspicion that he’s warming up to the concept of force equals power. Showing a forceful hand can benefit him more times than not, so why not show his claws?  But just how far is he willing to go in the future? Will Tigerstar actually kill or injure any RiverClan cats to get his way…? He's starting to feel more in line with Clear Sky's character rather then other main villains of Warriors.
● Because he wants influence over RiverClan?  The most likely reason, I believe.
I wouldn’t say he wants to rule them like he rules ShadowClan, but he definitely wants some amount of control over RiverClan. "Helping" them rebuild and find a new leader- one that he approves of and who will answer to him when needed.  I can very easily see a situation with Tigerstar confronting a newly appointed RiverClan leader... “I helped you when you were weak and struggling, so now you are in debt to me and ShadowClan.”
This could be something he can pull when he needs an ally in war or politics or even use for something as simple as a supply source. Which leads me to another speculation behind Tigerstar’s force…
● He blames RiverClan for Rowankit’s death.
WE know that RiverClan never intentionally withheld catmint from ShadowClan when Rowankit was sick. Frostpaw and Mothwing had so much to deal within their own clan, and overlooking the old stock of catmint is a believable excuse.
But does Tigerstar truly believe that? And even if he does- is their excuse good enough?
From what we know about Tigerstar- he is fiercely protective of his family. Is it that far of a stretch to believe that at the core of Tigerstar’s ‘good intentions’ is to punish RiverClan...?
I think RiverClan’s in store for more than just a helpful hand from Tigerstar in the upcoming book. I’m ready to see a cold, calculating Tigerstar who commits questionable acts under the eerie words of, “it’s for your own good…”
Are we going to see cats being punished or flat-out exiled “for the betterment of RiverClan?”
How long is Tigerstar going to be in control, and how fiercely will he govern them? And perhaps most importantly, will he personally choose RiverClan’s next leader? And who will it be?
If ya'll got this far, you're crazy and amazing fr ✨//•ᴗ•//✨

Berryheart! This one contains a lot of spoilers, starting in paragraph 2. She is one of Snowbird and Scorchfur's kits in their first litter, alongside Cloverfoot, and Buster(rippletail). She is also Needletail's mom, and later has Sunbeam Spireclaw and Hollowflight. She was among the first shadowclan cats to defect to join Darktail, alongside Cloverfoot and her younger sister Beepaw, before the kin had taken over the camp and were just hunting on Shadowclan land. She eventually becomes disillusioned with Darktail and tries to leave the kin quietly with Beenose, but they are caught and the kin attempt to drown them both, killing Beenose. Berryheart manages to survive, (only shown on the bank after escaping in the manga after Tigerheart's shadow). She heads out of kin territory again, passing a message back to sparrowtail and Needletail through Slatefur (who she doesn't tell she was just attempted drowned? the pacing of the manga makes no sense but oh well!) Sparrowtail meets up with her and later so does Cloverfoot and Slatefur (who was replaced with Rippletail accidentally for the whole book) and they settle in an abandoned twoleg den. She and Sparrowtail have their second litter on the way back to shadowclan while traveling with Tigerheart's family and the cat's from Twolegplace, delaying Tigerheart's return by a couple weeks until her kits are weaned.
In the Broken code she makes a few limited appearances, but In the Starless Clan arc she becomes a very vocal Shadowclan conservative as a complete role reversal from her younger attitude in consequence to her experience with the kin. She is extremely disappointed that her son Spireclaw has taken up with Fringewhisker, a Skyclan cat who joines Shadowclan in River. She starts a faction of Shadowclan cats who meet in secret to speak out against 'clan-swappers' as they call them in Sky. She is the cat who alters the rule that cats must complete a trial to cats must complete three trials to be abe to switch clans. Berryheart is also vocally against 'helping' Riverclan with their leadership problems, and conspires with members of riverclan to remove the shadowclan occupation. She is extremely stubborn and arrogant and only becomes more so over time believing she knows best for her kits, her kin, and her clan. She goes as far as to try to use the new rule to replace corrupt leaders against Tigerstar at a gathering, but instead is turned on by her clan who-when the chips are down-don't believe that Tigerstar had abused his clan. Tigerstar recommends that she leave shadowclan, and offended at the idea she might join another clan Berryheart spits she'd rather be a rogue. Tigerstar is serious, and Berryheart leaves with Sparrowtail and Hollowflight.
Berryheart becomes injured by glass on a thunderpath and then battles infection. Sunbeam tries to convince her to accept clan help but her mother is too stubborn. Splash'star' takes her in, and uses the bitter she cat to intimidate his clanmates, making her his deputy once she recovers after he murders Harelight for suggesting he forgive dissenters. Together they trap Tigerstar on the gathering Island and invade Shadowclan. She tries to convince her former clanmates in shadowclan that she has a plan to restore their clan and rule it herself, but having just attacked them they don't trust her, and Splashtail discovers her treachery. She is killed facing Lizardtail, Nightsky and Owlnose, pushing Sunbeam out of the way before Owlnose strikes the final blow.
Listen I 100% agree with the assumption that she resides in the dark forest (I cannot for the life of me find an official source that says so?), but I also very much understand the direction they take with Sunbeam and her grief for her mother. Berryheart is complicated, she is kind of a dick but her motivations are to save her clan and kin, it makes sense that Sunbeam (and Sparrowtail) wants to save her to the end. Speaking from experience Its hard to know the horrible things that a parent can do in the name of love. It makes you believe in the better side you can see in a person despite all of the horrible things they can rationalize away for the greater good. Ultimately though the only person who can choose not to do hateful and controlling things is the person doing the hating and controlling, and some will never admit they might be wrong even if it destroys all trust. RIP Berryheart I hate her but also I do love her lmao.

Elder's Quest Spoilers
Seriously talking about one of the last Chapters of Elder's Quest so spoilers!
Why was Bluestar the one to give Tawnypelt that message? Literally have any other cat give it to her, Goldenflower, Flametail, Dawnpelt or maybe BLACKSTAR! I swear the Erin's forgot about him, last mention we ever had was in Tigerheart's Shadow. He had no part in The Broken Code, and no mention in A Starless Clan Tawnypelt spent most of her time under his Leadership, so did Tigerheartstar and they never reference him, Russetfur or Littlecloud anymore. Nightstar and Tigerstar 1 have had more talks and thoughts.
Also what was the Elder's Quest? No elder went on a quest, and only Leafstar became an elder at the very. All anyone ever did was talk and investigate twoleg shit. I swear this title should have been named something else.

Random Cats Round 2
descriptions and minor spoilers below the cut
Spiresight (Guardian Cats): Spire was a healer of the Guardian Cats and appeared in Tigerheart's Shadow and then as a ghost/in the afterlife in The Broken Code. Spire was renamed Spiresight just before his death in Tigerheart's Shadow. He is described as a "small, ragged, skinny black tom with yellow eyes". He was possessed by Ashfur in The Broken Code and forced to fight for him until after Ashfur was double-killed. Spiresight is now in StarClan.
Mouse Ear (Ancient ShC): Mouse Ear was a rogue in the Forest alongside Holly and Mud Paws and appears in Dawn of the Clans. Moved by the bravery of the Moor Cats, they joins Tall Shadow's group on the moor. Mouse Ear would stay with Tall Shadow and be a founding member of ShadowClan. He is described as a "big, broad shouldered, brown tabby tom with ears the size of the mouse, and one part of one ear missing. He has amber eyes."
Pebblefoot (RC): Pebblefoot was a warrior of RiverClan who appears in The New Prophecy, Power of Three, Omen of the Stars, and any Super Editions that take place during that time frame. He is the brother of Minnowtail and Tumblekit, however, he is for some reason made an elder despite only being 4 years old at his death. He is very likely yet another example of the writers forgetting how old different characters are. He drowned in the Great Storm. All of his on page appearances suggest that he was an aggressive, proud warrior.
Shadowsight (ShC): Shadowsight is a medicine cat of ShadowClan who first appears in Tigerheart's Shadow and has been in each book since. He was a major protagonist of The Broken Code arc. Influenced and manipulated by Ashfur, Shadowsight played a major role in the latter half of The Broken Code arc and suffered significantly at Ashfur's paws, nearly dying at least once. Shadowsight is nervous and struggles with self-esteem.
Pearnose (TC): Pearnose was a medicine cat of ThunderClan under Morningstar and appears in Battles of the Clans, Goosefeather's Curse, and Pinestar's Choice. She is described as a "dark brown tabby molly". She gives Pinestar a life and guides Goosefeather to becoming a medicine cat when he is young.
Applefur (ShC): Applefur is a ShadowClan warrior who appears only in Tigerclaw's Fury. She is described as a "mottled brown she-cat with pale green eyes". She questions Tigerclaw and is very concerned about her clan's lack of a leader after Nightstar's death. (There is an error in her drawing-- she was never a rogue. I got confused and thought she was one of Tigerclaw's rogues)

Hi! May I ask, do you have any headcanons about Berryheart's and Needletail's relationship, either before or after Needletail was killed? And Sparrowtail's relationship with her, if you have any, but if not than just Berryheart since I know you like her (are her number one super fan in fact ;) ). <3
I have so very many of these lol. I mean tons of them. First, most of them are already written in my story, A New Life, a New Purpose, so I'm going to post a link for that right here. Just in case.
I'm not going to list all of them here, because it will provide a lot of spoilers for the story. However, I will list some very generic ones as well as some important ones… SOME important ones. 😊
I have a whole story as to why Needletail seemed to feel so lonely and overlooked when she was growing up. Berryheart was there for her when she was a kitten, being a good mother as evidenced in the way she treats her second litter in Tigerheart's Shadow and the last two books in the A Vision of Shadows arc. Just before she became an apprentice, Sparrowtail came down with a very severe case of greencough. Needletail no longer needed Berryheart to provide her physical needs like warmth and milk, so, even though she was still a kitten although nearly an apprentice, Berryheart left the nursery to stay in the medicine cats den to be with Sparrowtail.
For Berryheart, due to many many other head cannons I have about her, she had no other cat who really cared deeply about her other than Sparrowtail. She chose her fear of losing him over loving her daughter. This choice would result in many other consequences and was the beginning of Berryheart's compounded guilt that grew over the years, most of it surrounding Needletail, but some having to do with other aspects of Berryheart's life.
By the time Sparrowtail was well again, Berryheart had missed Needletail's apprentice ceremony, and this was kind of the catalyst to get Needletail headed down a rebellious road so she found out about Darktail, and by the time Berryheart and Sparrowtail realized this, Needletail was already fairly enamored with him. I do agree with Canon, that Berryheart in particular did not think that Rowanstar was a good leader. However, my head cannon is that Berryheart joined the Kin primarily to follow her daughter. She wanted to make up for not being there when Needletail needed her.
Sparrowtail remained behind in ShadowClan due to complex reasons that I am going to leave up to anyone who wants to read my story. But eventually he joined them.
Needletail never did forgive Berryheart for sort of abandoning her when she was young, at least not while she was alive. Again, to get more details on that the readers are going to have to read my story.
Needletail realized that Berryheart's treatment of her was in no way Sparrowtail's fault. Therefore, she directed all of her anger and hurt towards her mother, while she remained somewhat neutral towards her father. However, she chose her suffix to honor her father. Although, it was not so much to honor her father as it was to sort of provide a metaphorical slap in Berryheart's face, showing her clear preference for her father over her mother.
So those are the basics. Like I said, I have a lot more but I'm going to leave it in my story. I also have tons and tons of head cannons for Berryheart and Sparrowtail's relationship, for each of those two characters individually, for Needletail individually, and just for that entire family including all of Berryheart's siblings and parents as well as those for Sparrowtail (by the way, canonically he has no father, but he does in my story).
There is also finally something very important that Happened between Berryheart and Needletail right before Needletail died. They also have a very important scene where Needletail talks to Berryheart after she has died, she being Needletail. Again though, I'm not going to explain those things here. I'm sorry. 😊
So in the end, is this post an explanation of my head cannons or a promotion for my story? Yes, yes it is. 😊

Almost finished with the Warriors series :'((
(For now >:3)
So, my thoughts of A Vision Of Shadow!
SPOILERS... DUH
The first and second book took me a few weeks to read, I thought they were rather boring. I almost skipped the entire arc. But I took those few weeks to read other(non cat) books. I came back to the series with a fresh view and really enjoyed the last four books! I loved Twigbranch and Finleap, they were very cute together! Violetshine and Tree were just too sweet together! With Tree needing to stay and Violetshine needing to leave only for them to come together at the end and agree to never leave eachothers sides. The return of Skyclan I already knew about, but their journey was still fun! I loved Twigpaw leaving to find them. Rowanstar's death took me by surprise, and Tigerheart/star's revival surprised me, too! His love for his kits, and protective personality was so far from the fanon idea of him that it took me off guard a bit! I came into the later arcs knowing of Tigerstar2 only from fanon but once he was really in the spotlight I came to really enjoy him!(Much like the Tigerstar before him) Neither characters are good but I still enjoy them.
That got away from me a bit! But those are my thoughts!!!
TLDR: I didn't like it, then I took a break and did end up liking it. The ending was really good in my option ^^

This girl has to be the biggest surprise in the new set of protagonists - she's not Firekin, she's not Tigerkin, the most important cat she's related to is Needletail who's been dead for over a series now, and she hasn't been in the limelight at all so far, nor have most of the cats she's connected to. But she's pretty, and she's got a wonderful name, and I honestly really like that she's sort of a nobody young warrior without any important family (other than Needle), so I'm very excited to see more of her as a protagonist! You can find the reverse side of her design here. She has no physical description other than color and pattern, but on the cover of River she looks like a sturdy sort of girl with a thick pelt, so that's what I went with here. ^^ She's a decently sized girl, a sturdy build, and nice thick, medium/long fur and tufted ears. I used this image as a reference. I gave her very few scars, since she's old enough to have been in the Sisters and Impostor battles, although neither has been confirmed, so it's hard to say whether she should have scars at all or not. It's funny - her older sister is a skinny sort of toothpick of a cat, but Sunbeam looks nothing like her - I am a sucker for a larger she-cat, though, so I'm fine with that. ^^ For her pattern, Sunbeam is described as a brown tabby-and-white she-cat with amber eyes. I went with a nice medium brown for her coat, and I had a lot of fun coming up with her pattern.  I'm really happy with how she turned out, I think she looks very pretty. I gave her that big circular marking on her sides to sort of look like a sun - bit of a stretch, but I wanted some reference to her name that still looked natural. Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out. :D
