what are your favorite bands/musicians??

THAT’S A PRETTY LOADED QUESTION, since I like pretty much every genre and listen to a whole lot of music, haha! But I’ll just give some of my generall all-time favs!

Chelsea Wolfe

Loooongstanding all time fav artist. She’s a HUGE inspiration for my art. The thing about Chelsea Wolfe is that no one has ever made songs about emotional pain sound so very physical .She describes emotional torment like being weighed down with sand, or being locked in a basement, all very slow and deep, which gives her music a HUGE emotional depth. Describing pain is not very easy to do in music without it either sounding melodramatic or “emo”, but Chelsea does it very well. It’s very complex music about very complex emotions. Like I said, I listen to a lot of music, but no one does sadness quite like her.

Alright, so “Songs For The Deaf” by QoTsA is my favorite album of all time. Full stop. To me it’s a perfect album. Queens is a band that is made up of a bunch of people who are all very good at making rock music, it’s as simple as that. This is great musicianship, great song writing, great mood, great albums. It’s ofc not strange that its members are good friends with pretty much every single big name in contemporary rock music. If there’s one thing I can’t stand in music it’s being “fake”, and by that I mean that the people who make the music aren’t fully throwing themselves into that music. That there’s no love, but Queens is nothing but love. Plus they’re just so very good at keeping true to that rock and roll MOOD. Sex, drugs, bad decisions, and good guitar solos. AND they’re still touring and releasing albums, so woohoo!

Tool was introduced to me by my big sister when I was about 12, she gave me all her albums. Seeing that my teenage years were an absolute hell for me, Tool is very important to me, both on a personal level, and as a lover of music. It’s an ICONIC band that has never been duplicated, not even by its own members. It’s a very unique band in its genre. Enigmatic, artistic, experimental, and hard as hell.They experimented with different kinds of noise, with writing, with ways to play the guitar, with music videos, etc. Their often over 4+ minute long songs are about topics from sexual assault (the sexual assault of its singer, actualy, true life), to anger directed at people, to anger directed at the world, to anti war, to explorations of religion. And all that accompanied by some near prodigy level guitar playing, and drumming. All of their songs have a lot of weight to them, and often have LONG threads on songmeanings dot com. So yeah, as a lover of rock music, and intense music, Tool means everything to me.
