the first neighbor i met after moving into this place, he left for an inpatient rehab yesterday. he started crying when he told me what was happening. i knew i should hug him but i didn't want to get burned by the cigarette in his shaking hands. i wish i had hugged him anyway

boba learned how to open one of the treat jars that i keep handy by the couch and i think she gave herself a stomach ache. she has only done it once and maybe i didn't put the lid on right, but trying to do it again has been keeping her busy the last few days

the twins across the courtyard are away shooting a movie and their mom is with them. from the window in front of my desk, i can see their dad and two sisters go a little bit more feral every day

i am in a drone-metal-in-the-woods phase that is as close to a satisfying drug experience as i have come in years

the family that threw the four day wake that i thought was a birthday party are getting evicted, not because of the noise, but because their drunken attempt to release several crates of doves in the middle of a playground resulted in significant property damage. apparently, at one point the minister they hired to speak at the wake called the police on them himself

Apocalyptic Tribes, Smugglers & Freaks

CHAPTER 7 • KATHMANDU & NEPAL

Her Naked:

The Kathmandu government hospital has 200 beds.

A housewife threw urine out of the window yesterday, and it landed right on my head."

"I met this Ganesh Baba [an elder, devoted to Ganesh] in Swayambhu, and went to his satsang [gathering of spiritual seekers] for two weeks or so.

This man was a total fraud, illogical, and a sex maniac.

His foremost chella was a fat Swiss girl who literally believed that he was a reincarnation of Ganesh.

I heard that he went to the U.S.A. and kept on his women-groping game, with the pretext of initiation."

Ganesh Baba had a lot of devotees, and I was generously given a book by one of them, by Eve Baumohl Neuhaus, The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh

Baba.

Among his group of devotees -- or just hangers-on trying to check him out -- there was a French girl named Holy Tits, with whom I had a brief affair.

It must have been 1979.

When he gave his initiation, Ganesh Baba gave a long hug to the person, while muttering some stuff.

After her initiation, Holy Tits started to have serious doubts about the holy man, and she told me:

'I don't understand why he had to fondle my tits.'"

"I was headed for Tibet when I left Haight Ashbury [San Francisco's hippie neighborhood], but by the time I got to Kathmandu in 1969, the Cultural Revolution [in Mao Tse-tung's China] was in full craziness, and the [Nepal-China] border was closed.

Kicking back in our yard in Manali one day, and a Navajo brave [Native American tribesman] -- wearing turquoise and coral beads -- stepped out of the forest.

Turns out he was Tibetan.

But looked just like the Navajos I knew from Arizona.

Then his whole clan came out of the forest.

They had escaped Tibet.

And we were the first people they saw in India.

A bunch of half-naked freaks..."
