25th of July 2024: Sufetula diminutalis

A shorter post today, as individual moth species tend not to be as well studied as many vertebrates: here is Sufetula diminutalis. They have smooth antennae and legs, and while credit of their discovery tends to be given to Francis Walker, the original description also mentions that they were presented by Henry Tibbats Stainton [1] [2].

They were first described based on individuals found in Limas, Honduras [1], but have since been found all over the Americas, from Northern South America all the way across Central America, the Caribbean, and even Florida [3]. They also appear to have made their way across the Atlantic, as in 2012, they were found in a tropical greenhouse in the Leipzig Zoo in Germany [4]. In general, Sufetula diminutalis is mostly known for their caterpillars enjoying munching on the root tips of oil palms [5].

सोशल मीडिया पर ये रहस्यमयी तस्वीरें तेजी से वायरल हो रही है। कुछ लोग इन तस्वीरों को देखकर हैरान है तो वहीं कुछ लोगों ने इसे लेकर कई प्रकार के सवाल खड़े कर दिए। बता दें नेपाल में हिम मानव को राक्षस माना जाता है। तिब्बत और नेपाल की लोकप्रिय काल्पनिक कथाओं के अनुसार, एशिया के कुछ पर्वतीय इलाकों में बड़े बंदर जैसे जीव रहते हैं और इन जीवों को येती या हिम मानव कहा जाता है। Read the full article
