UMUSIC FanVerse: A Super Event for Super Fans

Events are back in a big way. Many are lining up for an immersive live experience with a swirling evolution of iconic imagery, like what the #UMusicFanVerse2022 has recently brought us. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience engaging fans in the world of their favorite international and local artists.

The UMusic FanVerse is a week-long fandom gathering from October 17-23 at The Podium Hall Level 6, the biggest superfan-con and all-in-one music festival for Pinoy music fans.

It highlights life-sized experiential booths and awesome merch with over 50 artists' performances including Morisette, Darren, Blaster, December Avenue, Juan Karlos, Zild, Zack Tabudlo, UK’s Bonny Bailey, Irish singer Dermott Kennedy, Blaster Silonga, Zild, Singaporean singer-songwriter Lullaboy, Malaysian rapper Yonnyboii, Indonesian Idol Tiara Andini and a lot more.

Taking advantage of how fans are open to a much wider range of experiences, UMusicPh has also put up a pocket meet & greets with artists and we were grateful to talk to Zack Tabudlo and Juan Karlos last Sunday. That night, Zack Tabudlo was awarded a Diamond Award for reaching over 1 Billion Global Streams on his debut album Episode.

Structured with creative minds, new tools, art, technology, and a contemporary setting, this newer and immersive live experience will reach the largest audience possible and spark the interest of the younger generations.

Kim Mingyu is a man of confidence.

He exudes confidence, regardless of what he does. It’s a natural part of his aura — something that he can never control at will.

It comes in handy for his line of work, which often requires him to socialize and impress others. Occasionally, though, it also needs him to give presentations in front of large crowds.

As his audience continues to stare at him, with a mix of glossed eyes and awestruck expressions, Mingyu begins to appreciate his inborn confidence a little bit more.

He’s an extrovert. He does well with crowds. He’s comfortable striking up conversations with complete strangers. He’s talkative and spontaneous and outgoing, amongst other things.

And with his confidence, Mingyu can command a room with ease.

Yet, still, it doesn’t necessarily mean he enjoys public speaking — especially if the crowd he’s addressing is full of college students who are currently everywhere, just not in the classroom.

He can hardly blame them. He has been in their shoes before. He knows what it feels like to listen to professors and guest lecturers drag on when he rather spend his time elsewhere.

"Well then, if you guys thought of more questions later," he began his wrap-up speech, "feel free to email me. Thank you—"

A flurry of moment on his right caught his attention, effectively halting his speech. However, the cause of it is gone by the second he turns.

The only evidence he has that he didn’t hallucinate the entire thing is the murmuring that suddenly engulfs the room. And the small folded piece of paper on his right that seems to appear out of the blue.

Mingyu reaches for the paper and looks around the room. He immediately notices the students’ renewed interest in him. Or perhaps — most likely — they are just interested in how he responses to the note.

He looks down as he opens the paper.

Mister, do you have a significant other?

He chuckles soundlessly. Not because of how off-topic it is from the presentation he just gave, but because it is apparently enough to bring you forth in his mind.

After all, you are his other half. Someone he met and fell in love with within the walls of your college campus. Someone he put great effort to deserve the heart of.

The only one he could see sharing a future with. The only one he went down on one knee for and waited for at the end of the aisle.

The only one he loves with his soul. The only one he respects and cherishes to an unfathomable extent.

Mingyu gives a shy smile to the sea of students before raising his hand, palm facing inward. He lets the gold band around his ring finger shine under the spotlights aimed at him.

Their collective disappointment is loud.

Mingyu finds their reaction amusing. He has watched countless people react to his marital status over the years. Those who appear dismayed, he notes, often try their best to hide it, albeit unsuccessfully. As a matter of fact, this is the first time anyone has ever showed disdain so openly — a whole group, too, no less.

He can’t stop the soundless chuckle that escaped. He has always been proud of his marriage. He boasts about it — and you — every chance that he gets. It’s something that always brings a smile to his face. Something that he never gets tired of.

Even after the divorce.

The end of your marriage had been a mutual decision. You both agreed that it was the best action to take, before anything escalated to something unbecoming. And, at the time, it was the best decision to take.

The end of your marriage didn’t signify the end of his love for you, though. That’s why, even years after the court made your divorce official, his wedding ring stayed on his finger.

Mingyu may have failed to keep you by his side, but he absolutely has no plans to rid himself of the only physical reminder of your marriage.

Mingyu may have lost his rights to claim you as his spouse; but at least in front of strangers, he can still pretend that the gold around his finger is more than a remembrance.

"How are you going to find a replacement for your wedding ring if you keep letting people think you’re still married?" Minghao wonders when he meets up with him after his presentation.

Ironically enough, his longtime friend personifies the reality that his façade only works with strangers. Those who don’t know what happened. Nor can read him like an open book. Nor notice the hint of sadness in his eyes.

Mingyu simply shrugs at that, "Bold of you to assume I want a replacement in the first place."

(After all, his wedding ring isn’t just a conversational piece. It’s also his lifeline . . . something he can’t bear to lose, especially when he already lost you.)

Aku bertemu dengannya, di sebuah aplikasi Dating App, sebut saja namanya Surya. Ya, memang display name nya itu Surya. Aku match dengannya dan mulai berbincang banyak hal dengannya. Aku rasa ia cocok menjadi temanku kala itu, hingga aku memutuskan untuk bertukar akun Instagram ku dengannya. Percakapan di aplikasi Dating App itu berakhir, dan memulai percakapan panjang di pesan Instagram. Ia bercerita tentang keluh kesahnya, masalah pekerjaan sampai masalah ia yang tak kunjung menemukan jodoh. Ia memang memiliki spesifikasi calon pacar yang memang agak mengarah ke sifat homogen terhadap suku. Aku yang memang tidak berniat mencari pasangan, memberikan opsi untuk ku kenalkan saja dengan temanku yang secara garis besar, sama dengannya.

Awalnya ku pikir pertemanan ini akan berjalan lancar, ia akan cocok dengan temanku dan akhirnya aku berhasil menjodohkan orang lain. Ternyata, hal yang tak kuduga terjadi. Perjodohan ini gagal, namun ia jatuh cinta kepadaku, karena terlalu intens nya percakapan kami saat itu. Bodohnya aku, aku membalas perasaannya dengan menjadi 'pacar sementaranya'. Hubungan ini berjalan sebulan, ku hitung. Dan aku pun mulai memahami tentang apa yang terjadi kepadanya saat itu. Ia hadir disaat aku menangis tersedu-sedu, memelukku dengan erat dan mengatakan kata-kata yang sampai saat ini pun aku tidak pernah lupa.

Ia memelukku malam itu dengan hangat, sampai aku lupa kalau hubungan ini hanyalah sebuah tipu daya manusia kesepian yang enggan memiliki komitmen dan terhalang banyak hal.

Hubungan kami setelah malam itu, semakin erat. Layaknya seorang remaja yang sedang jatuh cinta, kami menganggap dunia hanya milik kami berdua. Kita berkomunikasi layaknya pacar, saling memberi hadiah, hingga akhirnya aku menemukan fakta bahwa Surya belum selesai dengan masa lalunya. Hahahaha, bangsat! Aku hadir diantara kisah yang enggan ia akhiri ternyata. Aku benar merasa, bahwa kami hanyalah manusia kesepian yang memerlukan kehangatan satu sama lain. Aku mulai membatasi interaksi dengannya, entah dia sadar atau tidak. Aku merasa terluka sebenarnya, tapi menangis pun percuma, kan semua ini sesuai perjanjian awal, kan? Malam kemarin, tanpa angin dan hujan, aku mengungkapkan apa yang aku rasa dan memutuskan untuk mengakhiri kisah konyol ini. Ia memahami dan aku memilih untuk menjaga jarak kepadanya. Lagi-lagi aku, terjebak dengan perasaanku sendiri. Sudah tahu "hubungan tanpa status" kenapa kamu berharap kisah ini memiliki ending yang bahagia?

Kembali, dengan rasa kesepian yang makin meluas. Aku melanjutkan tujuan awalku, hidup tanpa cinta sampai ia menemukanku di simpang perjalanan hidupnya.

OKTOBER PALING MENYAKITKAN

Setiap tahun aku menanti bulan oktober, menanti kejutan, menanti ucapan. Kala itu petang tepat diawal bulan. Tiba2 ada tangan menyapa memberi kabar buruk. Getar hati yang tak karuan. Kala itu aku harus tetap tersenyum dan tertawa.

Kenapa begitu sudah menyakitkan diawal bulan?

"Kamu datang ke pernikahannya?"

Jawabku bisa namun penuh dengan tenang. "Kalau diundang" menyembunyikan perasaan yang menyakitkan ternyata menyakiti diri sendiri.

Entah mengapa oktober begitu lama rasanya, hari demi hari terus menyakitkan.

1 minggu sebelum pernikahannya aku dihantui mimpi di setiap harinya tahapan menuju pernikahannya. Kenapa rasanya begitu menyakitkan kenapa?

Sampai akhirnya di memberikan undangan sebelum hari ulang tahunku. Begitu kah hadiah itu hadir? Baru tahun kemarin aku merayakan bersamanya. Dan tahun ini jadi begitu menyakutkan.
