since it's locktober i figured i'd open up my chastity game while waiting for the cage to arrive! it should get here in about a week, so that's when i'll end this. once it's in my hand, i'll reblog this saying it's over and a dedicated post saying how long i'm going for.

me vs contemporary romance books

— [♡]; I've always said that I'm not a big fan of romance books, especially the contemporary romance variety that's been dominating the Target shelves and people's tiktoks. I recently read The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston, and I was pleasantly surprised that I genuinely thought it was good. I rated it 4/5 stars and was so happy because it gave me some hope that I could enjoy some contemporary romance books and have a new genre to expand my reading palate.

Now I'm 32% into Book Lovers by Emily Henry, and I was excited to start it since I'd just finished 4 depressing books in a row and wanted some light and happy reading. But my gripe with these popular contemporary romances is that while the writing styles and the plot are usually light, easy, and fairly enjoyable, the characters feel like mush to me. Of course, I'm still going to finish this book, it's not unbearable enough for me to DNF it, but Nora and Charlie are so damn boring on their own and such common occurrences in this genre that I'm definitely gonna forget them as soon as I finish this book. I just feel like this entire genre has become so oversaturated, and it's a shame since I need more of my light and happy books, but it seems that they come at the expense of the depth of the characters.

i honestly think melted marshmallows would be a great substance replacement for webshooters, but there is one caveat; if Spider-Man shoots his marshmallow webs at a villain, they would try to eat out of it. Maybe marshmallow flavoured webs isn't a good idea

Azem's soul has gotta be the most unruly and stubborn soul in existence. Even if the wol's just half-rejoined, it's still That One Soul that'll do whatever the fuck it wants, you can't boss it around. That Exarch manages to pull it against its will to a different world, although not without blood, sweat and tears, is an overlooked aspect of how badass he is. It mostly gets memed at, but cmon, he literally pulled off an azem summoning on Azem's soul.

Romantic headcanons of each player (which are valid) notwithstanding, he is loved so deeply by so many people in canon, yet he is so singularly-focused on his mission that he doesn't seem to notice. This man, who sought to sacrifice himself for the sake of the world and us and intended for neither us nor the world to ever find out. This man, who asked if he would merit a footnote in our story someday. I just wish we could make him see.

How Rammbroes talked about him after he shut himself in the Crystal Tower. The final letter from the Ironworks crew in the alternate timeline, locked away in the depths of the Tower, addressed to him, entrusting him with all their hopes. How contrary to his expectations, WoL remembered him, and cried out his name desperately when he was about to sacrifice himself. The city that he watched over for a century, generations of people who loved him so very, very dearly. Does he know how they cried when he left? How Lyna cried? How she worries about him still? (that part, at least, we did tell him). They way Alisaie teases him like he's family, her absolutely devastated scream when he sacrificed himself at Ultima Thule.

This man who constantly devotes his all to helping others, because he can't help but love the whole world, yet thinks his efforts are insignificant in comparison to everyone else, thinks he won't be remembered by others even as he gives all he has to save them, never seems to notice that his kindness has mattered to so many people, who care so deeply for him.

I just wish we could tell him, you know?

I still find it funny that people call eleven a "deadbeat husband" and their marriage "toxic" but twelve is the "perfect husband" and their marriage "wedded bliss" all because of the few moments we'd seen between 11 and River were them being "toxic". yes of course! let's ignore how the minisodes show how that description isn't true and even how little moments in the episodes themselves – "what? that's it?" (why haven't you kissed me goodbye? are you being sly on purpose so I'd kiss you first?) and "they wouldn't bury my wife out here" and the music room is the heart of the home and it's not a ghost story, it's a love story – show 11 cared and put in the work and yes, they're going to have disagreements like the ones in TATM because duh who doesn't but it does not mean it is the entirety of their relationship but people have taken it and made it the entirety of their relationship.

I think the "foodie vs badass Raha" unrest exists because his being an all-rounder (in more aspects than combat and bed) gets pointedly ignored lately. Don't squander the legacy we've been bestowed: a "true neutral" character is notoriously hard to write, but at the same time deeply fascinating to rotate. Let ALL of his facets shine. Look. He's literally round-shaped. LITERALLY.
