one fine day at the end of january 2021, I started panicking about the day I no longer had any ideas for the untamed gifsets, so I decided to challenge myself by starting a get to know me meme (see post here). I gave myself 100 sets to do - fully expecting to never ever finish them. 

BUT!

less than 2 years and precisely 100 sets later (although along the way I might have cheated and changed 5 brotps to 5 cinematographies and one “romantic pairing” is more bromantic than romantic), I’m finally done!! 

this meme (series?) really pushed me out of my usual comfort zone of giffing (at that point of time I think I was still... 70% the untamed?), especially with giffing animated shows and more obscure shows. along the way, I picked up and practised new skills, new styles, new colouring tricks, and I’m really really glad that I took this on ( ˙꒳​˙ )

CHARACTER PROFILE:

This is not Kurt’s first time in college. He attempted a performing arts school in New York City, but quickly learned actual performing arts was nothing like his little hometown Glee Club. Although he enjoyed the stage, and still envies the lights and the applause, he found his home on the other side of the production; directing. After a year off from education al-together to work, he gathered enough money to support completing his degree elsewhere- at Joie, as a junior. This is his second year enrolled in Joie, and he plans to continue till he receives his Masters in Directing.

Kurt was engaged, once. He never mentions to who anymore, or why it didn’t work out, but the timeline matches his decision to quit his previous school. It was messy, and he hasn’t tried dating since then. Those closest to him can also note this was the last he was known to sing, in front of anyone. Whoever left him, or whoever he pushed away, seemed to take his love of song with them.

During the year he was away from his first college (and leaving his fiancée), Kurt earned his liquor license and worked in bars all over New York. He nearly cut all ties with his friends from Lima, moving into his own apartment, and rediscovering what it meant to be himself, separate of where he came from or who he was with. His re-emergence at Joie University was the first many from his ‘past life’, as he called it, has seen him.

Kurt developed a small addiction to tattoos. He got his first during a drunken blunder; it ended up misspelled. He had it covered with a small light-blue Christmas ornament, for his mother’s love of the holiday. The moment it healed, he was already looking into getting more. Something about the vibration of the needle-gun was enticing to him, and the lasting meaning on his skin was the solid ground he had been missing. He now has the ornament for his mother, a canary in a cage on his left upper-arm, and a small pentagram behind his left ear, just for fun. He got all of these in less than a year and a half.

Kurt completed one short film on his own, with help from some of the students at his first college. It was a small narrative piece about a man that falls asleep on an empty subway train over and over, and each time he wakes up, someone knew is sitting across from him. Past loves, the mother and father, siblings, a baby-sitter, even the family dog that magically talks. The piece ends with the man getting off the train, having dealt with his personal demons, off to live his life leaving his regrets on that subway train. Kurt did not star in the piece, but his voice is all over the script.

STUDENT CENSUS SURVEY:

What made you want to attend Joie University? The allure of true education mixed with an emphasis on freedom of expression. The flowing curriculum makes deciding one’s future easier than at other schools, and with the chaos becoming an adult can bring, that kind of freedom is a perfect fit for me. That, and this was one of the few colleges that would accept the credits I earned from my previous school and allowed me to continue my degree where I had left off.

What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess? I am very resourceful, moderately-to-extremely creative, and brutally honest. I am the first to point out my own flaws, so this is easy; I don’t let go of grudges, and will lie to make it seem I have. I’m a control freak when stressed. And I am… brutally honest. I’m told I have a ‘tone problem’ and my honesty can come across as bitchy.

Which of your traits do you value most? My need to be creative. I’m not sure what I’d do with my time if I wasn’t making something, doing something, engaging with something. It’s not ADHD, I just love creating.

How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? I typically hold open castings for whatever projects I’m working on, providing paid (Yes, everyone I hire, I pay) experience, and if it goes well, a potential resume point for fellow students and myself.

What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? The complete, untainted college experience. Something to make up for lost time. Maybe reconnect with some old friends, maybe not. A new beginning, most importantly.

Iceland‘s Thunderclap fan celebration, explained

If you watched Euro 2016 or saw Iceland play during World Cup qualifying, chances are you’ve seen and heard this:

What on earth is that, you ask?

It’s “The Thunderclap” performed by Iceland’s fanbase.

It’s loud, it’s intimidating — and it’s really really cool. The Thunderclap is used passionately by Iceland’s fans, as a way to encourage players during a match and as a post-match celebration. Check out Iceland’s incredible welcome home after the run to the Euro 2016 quarterfinals that was the small nation’s coming out party on the international soccer scene:

Does the Thunderclap having roots in Viking culture?

Many attribute the origins of the Thunderclap to old Viking war chants or pre-battle rituals, but there seems to be evidence that it was inspired — at least in part — by other soccer fans.

Icelandic publication Morgunblaðið tracked down its origin to Scotland instead of the Vikings, according to The Telegraph

However, according to Icelandic publication Morgunbladid, the song was adopted by Icelandic club Stjarnan on a trip to Scottish side, Motherwell.

Fans of the Reykjavik-based side were first introduced to the terrifying terrace chant in a Europa League game with Scottish Premier League side, Motherwell. Motherwell’s slow-cap then evolves into the club’s trademark song, ‘Since I Was Young.’

Stjarnan faced Motherwell in the Europa League qualifying in 2014, and fans of the Reykjavik-based club were apparently so taken with the chant and clap they heard that they tweaked it and adopted it for their national team. According to The Guardian, Scottish fans could have picked up the “Huh!” aspect of the chant from the film 300 about Spartan soldiers released in 2007.

Of course, similar chants have also practiced by fans of French club Lens for years. Fans of the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer have their own version of the Thunderclap for years, dating back to before the club was re-formed in MLS in 2009.

While the origin may not be as exotic as some might hope for, it’s still a mesmerizing chant that can energize a stadium. Hopefully, we’ll be getting plenty of it in the World Cup.

okay this video was so so good, I loved the editing like with the arrows on the bench ha! this was so fun and I loved how you showed the like... whole narrative!! I also thought the various angles/settings/lighting colours really kept the video consistently super visually entertaining... this was my second favourite but I feel like if the competition wasn't so strong it would've been an amazing winner

Holy crap! This was so fun! I loved all of the text you added to give it a little spice. I could tell that you and your friends had a blast making this. I don't know who you are, but this video totally made me want to be friends with you! The only areas it lacked were precision with lip syncing and some minor editing things (but lets be real, this was dope).

Creativity - 8 While this is a Super basic song to use for a music video challenge, I don't feel like I've ever seen it used like this before, telling the story using a pair of friends, that was super cute. I loved the little bits where you're rocking on "stage" with your boyfriend, that was super cute!!! Effort - 10 This music vide had so much attention to detail, between the little disclaimers, MTV logos, and the storytelling as a whole. The next time you do a video pay attention to the lighting though! There were some points where the crazy color lights were casting a strange shadow on one half of your face that didn't look super intentional. Overall - 10 This music video had me laying in bed CACKLING the whole time, it had the perfect blend of sophistication and stoopid that just made for one of the most enjoyable music videos I've ever seen done. Amazing job.

OKAY WHAT THE FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. With all the videos in this community this one totally stands out. It is clear you had fun with this but also how bad you wanted this immunity, clean editing, watching a story play out before our eyes just like a real music video, and also we are at a rave! If I have one complaint its that for a lot of the song you don't really match up with the song when you are lip-synching, and in most cases that would be backbreaking but when you pull something out like THIS, it only hurts you slightly in my eyes. AMAZING JOB!

this was so cute I loved the concept and idk why you having the tribal behind you really got me. you had some really really fun editing ideas in this, I think you just got unlucky where for the second half you kinda were out of ideas and it was just you lip synching so even tho you were serving it didn't maintain the momentum of the first half

This was such a cute video. I loved the greenscreen and all the parts with your cat in it. I think that it just got a little boring/repetitive toward the middle and I lost interest. I think it might have been a song choice issue, but your lip sync was on point.

Creativity - 9 This is a super basic song, but the concept was really funny, I really appreciated that the song wasn't just about love, but about immunity. Effort - 8 Girl you involved you cat, idk how you did it, but you did. That cat deserves an EMMY baby. Anyways, the effort was very obvious with the full grenscreen moments to the contextual scene changes. Good shit b. Overall - 8 The music video's concept really carried the entertaintment portion, I feel like it was very one note in its humor, and the song choice probably contributed to that a lot. Slower songs really need a LOT to make it work in context to a music video challenge.

Okay WORK!! Thank you for having a clean video it made it satisfying to watch. The issue here is the song, there's no real reason to stay hooked. Miss Rachael! What a great take on this challenge. So many people just lip sync the house down, but you thought about the lyrics and created something really interesting. I think there are a few areas where I wanted more, but I was fully entertained the whole time. Danny Devito deserves love too!! Also, you looked like you had so much fun making this! Great job.

Creativity - 8 The dancing / scenes you used were very expected from that song, there's almost only one way to make a creative statement with that song choice. And you did it. Using a celebrity as your lover was the icing on the cake for the creativity portion. Effort - 10 I absolutely loved you getting your friends involved, it was so fun to see your "Cheerleading" friend in the music video. I also loved the editing, it probably would have flowed a bit better had the editing matched the scenes you filmed, like the change in car color, but you can't always control that. Also, messaging survivor alumni for shoutout vids for free instead of using Cameo is amazing, good job!! Overall - 9 I loooved the video, and the ode to Danny Devito, I thought it was hilarious, and iconic, in the most ironic way possible. Great job Rachael!!

Miss William!!! With the RUVEALS! I was gagged at all the tiktok dancing, but it got a little repetitive at times. Your lip sync was solid and really in time with the music. I would have loved to see you do more though. Like change up the scenery or something. (I know it’s quarantine and a lot of people can’t do this in front of their families, but like roll around on your bed? On the floor? Something different)

Creativity - 7 C'mon brooklyn hytes!! I see your inspirations, and I see how it all accumulated. The song choice is very recent, which unfortunately makes it expected. I wish this could have been done in multiple takes, with scene / wardrobe changes etc. Effort - 6 The effort value comes in play with your original choreography. However, the lack of editing puts you beneath most of the other videos, because the low quality audio. Overall - 7 I feel like this music video was very average, I really liked the dancing, and I could see how much fun you were having with it, which makes me want to have fun and go dancing with you, but when it stacks up next to the other music videos, this is the score you earned.

   Sebastian always loved music. He enjoyed learning to play instruments from the very first time he had heard his mother play the piano. As he grew older Sebastian also found his voice and affinity for dance. This was his hobby. Music and dance were his outlets for his teenage pent up frustration especially when he discovered his attraction to men.    The family appeared very idealistic from the outside but, behind closed doors, not everything was as perfect as it seemed. The only reason Mr Smythe allowed his son to attend these musical classes was because there was no escaping Sebastian’s talent in front of his colleges and partners he wanted to impress.    It had always seemed to surprise Sebastian’s teachers when he did so well in school. One of the only things Sebastian was glad to have inherited from his father was his determination and uncanny recall abilities.    Sebastian often struggles with his relationship with his sister as he often finds it hard to express his feelings behind all of the sarcasm but he hopes she understand that he loves her in his own way, especially since he don’t have the best male role model in their father.    At first his attraction to men had terrified Sebastian and when he spoke to his father about it, well, that didn’t go down well at all. That was when Sebastian became the man he is today with his open sexuality and fluidity. This was the start of the partying and drinking and sex. At first it was to throw it in his father’s face, but it soon became escapism. He hasn’t looked back since.   Originally Sebastian studied film with a minor in political science at Yale. He was very arts focused at a young age enjoying classes in drama, music and dancing which were encouraged by his mother. This caused many rifts between Sebastian and his father. Sebastian picked up a minor in political science to try to please his father. After a big fight between Sebastian and his parents he changed to a pre-Law major with political sciences minor. Sebastian hid it but while he was at Yale he missed his sister very much as she had been his rock his whole life. The two only had each other as they spent the majority of their childhood at boarding schools around the country. Sebastian decided to move to Joie for his post-graduate Law studies to be with Kat. What made you want to attend Joie University? I am looking for a college with a rich history to provide me with unique experiences and an internationally recognized faculty.

I am a focused individual, working hard for all of my goals in life. I am always open to trying new things and meeting new people, thus I am very adaptive to change. I am also secretive, distrustful, and finicky, but we don’t need to talk about that.

Which of your traits do you value most? I believe my ability to adapt to change is my most valuable trait. Many people value things like love but how can you love someone if you cannot accept change because change happens to everyone no matter how much you try to stop it. The world is constantly changing and even if your holding on white-knuckled it’s going to keep turning and you will get left behind.

How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? My body is a gift to this student body, I mean have you seen me? To give them the pleasure of having a Smythe in their midst? To give all the uptight men a good fucking to help them relax a little. So many kids don’t know how to deal with what life throws at them, especially LGBT+ kids, the world just keeps hitting you even when you’re down and I want to show them they can stand back up. I might not have been able to stand up to my father and pursue my film career but I’ll be damned if I sit here and use this Law degree to benefit his stupidly rich ‘friends’ who are disowning and kicking out their LGBT+ kids left right and center.

What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? I want to gain new experiences with new people in new places. To be with my sister; my rock, my best friend.

Oh boy, talk about a can of worms… Good: I have a great sense of humor I think, I love to make new friends, I can usually find a way to make the best of any situation. Bad: I can be too closed off from my friends and family, I am usually shy when I first meet people, I can be pretty indecisive.

Which of your traits do you value most? I value being able to make the best out of a bad situation. I know how hard it can be to just go through life some days, and if I can help someone else by pointing out the positives that they have, then why not? :)

How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? I use this trait on a daily basis pretty much, so if a member of the student body is feeling stressed, I can talk to them about what is stressing them and point out the positives. For example, if I had a classmate stressed over a project, I can remind them that in a week after it has been turned in, they don’t have to worry about it any more, and until then, they can just do their best.

CHARACTER PROFILE:

•Jesse was born into a very talented and wealthy family, every single relative was involved in the arts in one way or another. His mother was a costume designer for many well-known stars, and came from a famous line of Broadway and Hollywood stars, while his father was a successful film director, so Jesse was definitely expected to become prominent in the arts as well.

•He was told multiple times by his parents that he was their favourite, they didn’t bother keeping it a secret. This lead to some of his siblings to struggle with self-esteem and other problems. He is proud of knowing that his parents thought him most likely to succeed and become somebody important, but he still feels like the guilty one sometimes.

•Jesse had his first role in Broadway at the age of four as a minor character in a play. This was the moment in which he decided what he wanted to do with his life: dedicate it to the stage fully. Since then, he participated in plenty of productions and projects for the acting industry, and hasn’t stopped.

•His parents paid for every single thing he ever wanted, which included a lot of arts lessons. He took classes in singing, dancing, acting, and every similar thing he could find. Even though the lessons noticeably helped him, he was a natural-born performer, a fact that didn’t do much to help with his rapidly-growing ego.

•He didn’t have a lot of friends growing up. Obviously, kids didn’t want to spend recess sitting down with Jesse while he rambled on and on about his latest Broadway show, or about Queen, or just sharing what his mother had told him about how promising his future was. But he didn’t need them, or so he thought. All he needed was his own voice and a tune to sing during recess while he strolled around the playground by himself.

•Jesse comes off as an overconfident, arrogant, dismissive jerk, and while that’s not exactly a lie, he can also be caring and loving to the people close to him. His rude and conceited persona is just a facade he uses. Confidence is the key to success, those are the words he lives by, and he completely agrees with them, even if he unknowingly exaggerates sometimes.

•He can be a very good manipulator when he wants to, and he makes good use of that gift. He has used it before, and he won’t hesitate to use it when necessary.

•While Jesse is fantastic at performing, the same can’t be said about his academic skill. While his parents forced him to keep up with his schoolwork when he was a child, the habit didn’t stick to him, and that caused him to fail out of his scholarship at UCLA.

•He still keeps the care bear Rachel got him. He went back to get it and it now sits on his bed. It’s one of his best kept secrets, and he’ll be dead before he lets anyone find out about it, it’s embarrassing to him.

•His first celebrity crush wasn’t on a woman, but rather on Freddie Mercury. He had always been in awe at the man, and he reluctantly admitted his deep admiration was more of a childish crush.

•Jesse did manage to mature a bit after graduating high school. Failing at UCLA helped him get slightly humbler, as he realised that he wasn’t perfect, after all. Regardless, he is still more arrogant than average, but he’s willing to improve.

CHARACTER PROFILE:

Gray was never who his family wanted him to be. He was more into the world outside his classroom than anything in books. Grayson was supposed to be a lawyer or a doctor but Gray wanted to be photographer. Gray took his first photo when was 6 and from that moment that was all he wanted to do. He spent a lot of his moment on cameras and film. Gray found more peace in his dark room than he ever found outside.

Gray knew was gay, he known since he was 14 but he never came out to his family. The fear of losing his family over his sexuality was a real one. His dad never hid his disapproval for homosexuality so Gray played it safe and has never officially came out. Gray’s friends at school knew, so school was the only time he felt himself. Gray was able to hide his relationship in high school due to his boyfriend, Peter, being his best friend. When Gray was in high school and out Peter a group of guys beat the shit out of them. It took some time for Grayson to recover but he felt like he came out of the ordeal stronger.

Gray and Peter broke up shortly after their graduation. Grayson isn’t looking for anything special but is hoping that college will open him up to more experiences since he wont have his father around to judge him and see what he is doing and with whom.

Gray might have been seen as a good kid, but he did have a bit of a rebel side to him. He has roughly 13 tattoos most of them he got when he was way to young them. His father has no clue that he has them. He also smoked pot and drank underage.

Grayson has a cat name Lord, who is a real asshole but Gray loves him to death. Even if Lord could care less about Gray.

CHARACTER PROFILE:

Phoenix was adopted to the Lopez family when he was just a baby. Enrique and Maribel had reached a point in their lives where they weren’t able to conceive not long after Satana was born, so they reached out to an adoption agency to adopt one last child.

Phoenix always knew that he wasn’t fully related to the Lopez’s, because they were Hispanic and he was Caucasian, but that never stopped him from feeling like apart of the family or as if he was an outsider. He got into arguments and other sibling things with Santana, Cristian and Rafael like any other siblings would.

One thing that he loved about his sibling bond with the other three was that whenever they hung out they would talk about other’s in Spanish. Their dynamic between all of them is what really made him feel as if he fit in the family.

He has hung around a rough crowd when he was younger and developed that Miami sass. So he doesn’t have a problem with speaking his mind or being blunt and open about things. And he tends to be a firecracker when he is angry - he’s has a few shares of fights, brawls, etc. so he definitely can back up what his mouth puts out there. All of which has gotten him in trouble with his parents many times.

But his biggest trial to date is - his homosexuality. His is currently in the closet, hoping that coming to Joie could bring that out of him. But his parents have never spoke highly of gay men or lesbians, quite the opposite actually. They would make fun of gay waiters, who had certain postures or held his hands a certain type of way. They would throw away dishes from new gay neighbors in the neighborhood and stop them from trick or treating. They would even ban tv shows and movies with gay characters in them.

Phoenix noticed that he wasn’t heterosexual when he was working out with his brothers. One being a marine and the other being a police office -who better to work out with. But when they got sweaty and took off their shirts it became hard for Phoenix to concentrate. He couldn’t stop staring or imaging things. But he couldn’t tell them that - he was scared that they would kick his ass.

But what really confirmed his sexuality was when he and his friends pretended to be college students and got into a party for some frat, that belonged to University of Miami, he has sex with a guy. It was the best thing in the world and it played over and over in his head for months. He even saw the guy more and more after that.

When he got serious with the guy, he was going to tell his parents, but his parents had made a comment saying something about ‘gays are going to hell and have no place in heaven'  and the fact that his maternal aunt and abuela disowned his female cousin for marrying a woman that made him retract his ideas of thinking of telling his parents. The guy he was seeing wanted them to become public - but Phoenix wasn’t ready for that and wanted to stay in the closet a bit longer. But a big argument lead to them breaking up.

The family noticed a change in Phoenix then. Whenever they went to their abuela side of town, he went looking for drugs, fights, sex with random girls - and since it was the slightly lower end side of town he found them things. But after his abuela put him in his place, he didn’t do those things anymore.

Instead his put his focus on school, singing, and acting. He wanted to be an actor, but he knew his parents wouldn’t think of that as an 'career’ so he decided to make everyone focus on him becoming a general practitioner, while worked to have the career that he actually wanted.

By the time he graduated, he was ready to get the hell out of Miami and away from his family. He had slept with many girls, had a pregnancy scare or two, and just became a shallow shell - to cope with hiding who he was he became a workaholic, working himself until he passed out from being tired. But he was looking forward to coming out of his shell, and the closet, once he was accepted into Joie University.

What made you want to attend Joie University? - Joie is one of the most prestigious schools in the world. I won’t settle for less when it comes to my career and things that I want to do with it. My determination, loyalty, and adaptability - I feel as if I don’t have any negative traits, because all negatives can be turned into a positive. Which of your traits do you value most? - My determination. I am a person who sees a goal and goes after that goal. I do everything I can to get it. I am not one to sit around and say 'what if’ - there is not time for all of that.

How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? - If everyone had my determination then I think Joie University would be more popular and sought after, because at the end of the day it’s how the students work, excel, and succeed that gives the university its prestige. And what fuels success is determination.

Cooper has always been the creative type who was not afraid to get dirty if it meant making good art.

When Cooper was growing up he was older than the twins, but he never let that hinder their relationship. He made sure that they were close. He loved being an older brother. He was the one who would involve his brothers in parties whenever he could or anything he was doing.

CHARACTER PROFILE:

Stacey loved living on a ranch growing up and being with her family, it gave her a sense of responsibility and work ethic most kids her age didn’t have.

Stacey is a sweet girl and will befriend just about anyone. However, she also has a fiery side, and that side comes out when it comes to protecting the people she cares for. Especially her family.

Stacey is a perfectionist and often puts a lot of pressure on herself to be the best. She feels like a failure if any mistakes are made and is hard on herself.

Drawn to the classics, Stacey loves classic films and movies. Emily Dickinson is her favorite poet, she loved the tragedy of them, and found them to be romantic. One of her favorite movies was Anne of Green Gables, and always loved that she shared a name with the main character. Even if Anne was just her middle name.

A lover of theater Stacey always had an eye for the stage growing up. She was in a couple school productions. Often practicing lines while working on the ranch.

What made you want to attend Joie University?: I’ve heard nothing but good things about this school, and I want to go to get where I want in life. I love theater, and I hear this school has a great theater department. Plus, my brother goes here, and he seems to really like it.

What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess?:

POSITIVE:

BUBBLY: I love to have a smile on my face. and remain upbeat. I always try to look on the bright side of things!

FRIENDLY/LOYAL: I will befriend anyone, especially if they’re looking a little bit lonely. I never like to see anyone sad. I’m a very loyal and dedicated person, if you have me on your side you have a friend for life. If someone hurts, you I will be by your side to defend you in a minute. Or if I just see someone being unfairly bullied I won’t hesitate to stand up for them.

HARD WORKER: Once I set out to do something I don’t stop until it’s perfect, and a job well done.

NEGATIVE:

NAÏVE: I can be a bit too trusting when seeing the best in people. Which can sometimes get me hurt, but I believe people are good, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.

PERFECTIONIST: I’ve been told I’m a perfectionist, which I don’t consider to be a bad thing per se. I just like to do things right. But apparently that means I put too much pressure upon myself. Maybe there’s a point there.

WEAK WILLED: I often have a hard time defending myself against others because I fear the things, they’re saying could be true, and I can often let people walk all over me.

Which of your traits do you value most?: This is a difficult one I think all 3 of these traits are valuable. I’m having a difficult time choosing between my work ethic and my loyalty.

How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole?: My worth ethic — I will achieve to be my very best for myself and those around me.

What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU?: The ability to learn, grow, make friends, and start a path to a successful life. I truly believe this is the best place for all of those things.
