Semblances of Leon in Kazuki Kato and His Songs

If I had a nickel every time lyrics sung by Kazuki Kato matched perfectly with Leon Dompteur's story, I'd have 3 nickels — which isn't a lot. But it's weird that it has happened thrice.

I really got into Kazuki Kato and started checking out his works lately as he's the voice actor of my beloved Leon. And the more I look into him, the more I feel like he really is like Leon, be it in terms of looks or personality. After all, it was his final appearance in Sora's Senpai Club where Sora called him 100% ikémen that captured my heart. He's a cool, level-headed, kind and non-judgemental guy. On top of that, he'd respectfully ask to know his partner's wish as to whether she wants to stay with him or prefers some other guy he saw her getting intimate with!? Hmm, doesn't it sound like someone 2D I know and fangirl over?

Sure, one could easily lie in an interview, but not even as an audience could I imagine being calm in that cheating scenario Sora flung on him suddenly. I've watched many clips of Kazuki's other shows and videos as well, and he always seems to exude this charisma and appeal, and his actions are bold and confident, much like our lion boy. His hair, especially in the earlier days, can also be seen rather long and messy, like a lion's mane.

Then there's his voice. My goodness! I mean, yeah, that's where it all started for me thanks to Leon, but I didn't expect Kazuki Kato to be a full-fledged artist. Alongside his solo songs, he sang covers, as a member of the band JOKER, as a cast of theatrical plays, and as the voice actor of Kento Aizome from B Project group THRIVE. Compared to his long career, the number of his songs I've listened to is meager. But his singing truly is amazing. His voice sounds so, so beautiful in Love Union, I keep listening to his lines over and over again and get overwhelmed with emotions, mostly because of Leon — which I'll get back to shortly.

At any rate, I don't know how Kazuki managed to be this good at singing when he decided to become a singer only after he felt lost in the entertainment industry. What do you mean he wasn't always aiming to be a singer!? Or an actor or a voice actor for that matter!? Because that man really aces whatever he does! Life really is strange and unpredictable, and I'm glad that fate somehow brought him to the world of entertainment. It's like he was born to be the Kazuki Kato we know.

Yes yes, I'm gushing over him. There's nothing to hide at this point. At first, it was so easy for me to see Leon in him. Boy, I should've known what I was getting myself into when I imagined the voice actor as the real life version of my current most favorite fictional man! I've dug a hole for myself deep enough that now I don't even need the semblance of his character to be into him. But when I listen to his songs, original solo or otherwise, there are times when I grasp the lyrics and I feel surprised because they go with Leon impeccably.

Long ramble finished, now I'm gonna do what I originally set out to do — put together all the lyrics sung by Kazuki Kato that I associate with Leon, translated by none other than me. Because either the translations I found had mistakes or there wasn't any translation to begin with. I'm feeling tempted to actually go and fully translate his songs. For now, it's only these lines for my dear lion boy! Beware of hints of events from Leon's main route.

Being an idol means that there are always eyes on him. Even Yuta isn’t naive to that. But he’s more conniving than he looks; you’ve learned never to ask for details, instead, you just go along with it when he grabs you by the hand and leads you off the film set.

“C’mon, c’mon!” Yuta urges you on as he pulls you behind him through the twists and turns of the production building; you’re basically his handler, but he has a much better grasp on the studio’s layout than you. “We gotta get out before anyone notices!”

“Wh— where are we going?” You wheeze, but you don’t get a response before Yuta is propelling you both through the building’s back doors and into the winter night.

Tokyo is alight with strands of glass bulbs, reflected softly by the snowdrifts that’ve built at the edge of the sidewalk. Yuta’s gloved hand is warm as it wraps around yours. He grins at you. “I wanted to see the lights together!” Is the only explanation you get before he’s pulling on your arm again, keeping you tucked close to his side as he begins to walk.

“You could’ve just asked,” you easily fall into step with him, having to crane your neck to see his face. His eyes are bright and his nose is red. “I could’ve arranged some spare time for us all to—”

“I don’t want it to be all of us.” He pauses in front of a shop window, staring at the decorative display; an old-fashioned television covered in tinsel and garlands, playing some ancient Christmas movie you recognize as being your parents’ favorite. Ornaments hang from the ceiling, glistening in the soft glow. “I just wanted it to be you and me.”

It’s not like Yuta to be shy, but right now, his face is as pink as his hair; his bright eyes can only meet yours for a moment before he’s sheepishly looking away. When you squeeze his hand, he squeezes back.

“—let’s go find the tree,” Your words mist into the air, and Yuta’s embarrassment melts away like snow being tracked into a warm home. He’s immediately trudging along besides you again, kicking his way through the icy slush, humming loudly and swinging your joined hands together.

You’ve seen Tokyo decorated for Christmas before, of course, but you’ve never seen it with Yuta; he’s amazed by everything, coming to a halt every few feet to point out another strand of lights. He has no regard for the fact that the production crew is probably out looking for you both. “That one looks like snowflakes!” He gestures to designs blinking blue along a shop wall. “And they have more of those oversized ornaments—”

It almost makes you feel like a child again. You’re not sure you’ve enjoyed it this much in a long time.

Finally the two of you round another corner and you’re greeted with the brightest flood of light thus far; the largest Christmas tree in the city stands proudly in the center of the square, wrapped in strands of white and gold and blinking neon. There are bows tied on the boughs, oversized candy canes in all sorts of colors— Yuta’s face is almost as bright.

“C’mon, c’mon!” His grip tightens on your wrist again and he pulls you forward. “Let’s take a picture!”

Yuta’s arm lands around your shoulder, and he pulls one of his gloves off with his sharp teeth before pulling his phone from his pocket. The camera app slides open and he pulls you against him. “Alright, let’s see,” he hums, angling the camera— but before he can take a snapshot, a call pops up on the screen, and Yuta huffs. “Nooo,” he whines, swiping it away, but not before you catch Kento’s name. “Go away, we’re not coming back.”

You snicker as he pouts, wrapping your arm around his waist to huddle even closer. “Just take the picture and post it, they can all come find us themselves.”

Yuta grins along with you as he pulls the camera back up, making sure the Christmas tree is visible in the frame. Right as he goes to take the photo, you stretch up on your toes and press your lips to the corner of his mouth.

That photo is going in his wallet.

(Note: This is set pretty far in the future especially in the case of Yuta as he's canonically, what? 17? So they're all in a stable enough place to have a child/children)

Thrive as Fathers

Kaneshiro Goshi:

Was scared to hold his child when they were first born. They’re so small after all, what if he accidentally hurts them? After you actually get him to hold them though, he won’t admit it, but doesn’t want to let them go.

Is surprisingly more responsible than one would think. A list of emergency contacts of the fridge, overnight bags packed just in case. Little things that I feel would be kind of unexpected for him, but this man is prepared.

To a stranger Goshi seems to be more of a cold parent. Still picks up his kid, holds their hand, and such, but usually keeps a straight face and doesn’t look very happy, like he’s only doing it out of necessity(we know he can smile, but Goshi does kind of have a resting b!tch face lol).

Behind closed doors though? Expect a lot of soft smiles and just quiet bonding time(He shows his love with actions rather than words and doesn’t usually say ‘I love you’, but it’s certainly felt):

>> Will sit next to the crib and read a book with one hand and just put his other in the crib and just let his child hold it and play with it. 

>> Totally one of those dad’s that lays on the couch with their kid laying on his chest, probably looking over music while absentmindedly playing with their hair. Usually ends up as a nap. 

>>When his child learns to walk, they often go over to him if he’s standing and tug on his pant leg. Goshi usually instantly picks them up and will answer whatever childlike questions they have (‘What’s this? What are you doing? Why?’). Surprisingly doesn’t get annoyed.

>> Lots of forehead kisses! Whenever he picks them up, puts them to bed, etc.

Worries A LOT. Totally fusses over his child a bit too much, but it’s just because he cares! (talk through it with him though and he’ll calm down and see that he’s worrying needlessly).

Keeps his temper in check pretty well, only ever really has issues when his child is going through their teen years. If they start talking back to him or become sarcastic, he has to remind himself to try not to yell (sometimes fails and will apologize and talk out the issue calmly with his kid afterwards).

Tries his best, but still frequently asks himself if he’s being a good father. 

Bonus: 

Child - *comes home with a few bandages on their face and arms.* ‘Dad I got into a fight at school.’ 

Goshi - *typing lyrics on his computer or something, not even looking up.* ‘Okay, but did you win?’

Aizome Kento:

Absolutely pours his soul into raising this child! He doesn’t want them to go through what he had to as a kid.

He is very casual with his love, he tries not to smother them, but wants them to know they are cherished. So saying ‘I love you’ isn’t uncommon. He’s an even split between showing and telling when it comes to love.

His child definitely grabbed and tugged on his bangs as a baby. Which was Kento’s least favorite time. Will look back on this memory and laugh, though it was frustrating at the time.

Best dressed kid, makes sure his child is stylin’ just like their dad. Even as a newborn, will buy high end baby clothes, someone please tell him they’re just outgrow it in a week or two T^T (he still probably won’t care and buy it anyway).

No matter how busy he may be will ALWAYS make time for his kid, they will never feel neglected or unwanted with him as their father.

He gets really depressed if he makes a mistake of any kind. He wants so badly to be the perfect dad and will struggle with the reality that there’s no such thing. 

If Kento is not already in an established relationship, he will cease his flirtatious/playboy ways. He wants a stable environment for his kid and doesn’t want them to feel overwhelmed if he brings home different partners all the time (may still go on the occasional date, but nothing like before).

Another one that likes to play with his child’s hair, if they lean against him or he’s holding them with one arm, he’ll use his other to twirl and a strand of their hair.

Trust his kid to make the right decisions, but tries to make himself seem approachable for his kid to come to him if they need his advice. Even though it’s hard to let his child make mistakes he wants them to be able to learn from them (will 100% step in if it’s a dangerous situation though).

Doesn’t deal well with a possible attitude when they get older, doesn’t get mad usually, just sad. Especially if they don’t say ‘I love you too’, he’ll be SUPER heartbroken.

Documents his kid’s childhood very well, lots of videos and pictures to capture memories for them to look back (in short he is definitely a ‘soccer mom’ type, recording on his phone and cheering for his child).

Bonus:

Nameless Character: *Pointing at Kento* ‘What do you have there?’

Kento: *standing there with his baby strapped to his chest in a carrier, both of them wearing matching designer sunglasses and hats. Drink in his hand* ‘A smoothie.’

Ashu Yuta:

Already babysits Goshi and Kento, so he’s the most prepared out of Thrive.

Totally believes he has the cutest baby ever in existence. Not because they’re his baby, but simply because they are them! <3

100% accidentally smothers his child with love. Like we know you love your child, but let them breathe! Very outspoken with his love, mainly shows it with his words. Impossible for them to feel unloved with how much their dad reminds them on a daily basis.

His child is HYPER, like they give Yuta a run for his money with how much energy they have. His family probably will be reminded of how Yuta was as a child lol.

Loves spending time with his child. He’ll follow whatever game they want to play, let them dress him up however they want, etc. Loves to see them be imaginative and creative!

The fridge is covered with any and every achievement his child has ever made, no matter how small (needs a second fridge.. NO, not actually Yuta, please don-) One Proud Papa!

Even though Yuta loves sugar he will cut back a lot. He wants his kid to grow up healthy and needs to lead by example (of course a treat every once in a while doesn’t hurt).

When his kid gets hurt or really sick for the first time he PANICS. He can’t stand when his baby is in pain and will rush them to the hospital as soon as humanly possible!

Is one of those dads that cry harder than their kid when they get a shot(vaccine), so much so you’d think he was the one getting one. 

Disappointed dad Yuta is the SCARIEST thing. His kid would much rather he get angry and yell at them. His expression only is enough to make them feel guilty enough to go to jail.

If his child tells him they’re embarrassed by him, he’ll try his best to hide his hurt. He wants to be a dad that his child will look up to afterall.

Bonus:

Yuta: *notices his child run by with something in their hand* ‘Hey! What do you have?’

Child: *Holds up a kitchen knife* ‘A knife!’
