🥤 CHEERWINE + CURRENTLY READING 🥤 Can we make that a thing?? 😅 I stopped to get myself a sandwich at Jersey Mike's and got some CHEERWINE, so you get my #cheerwineandcurrentlyreading since it's not coffee! I've seen this book, THE CHAIN by Adrian McKinty, around for a while, and someone on here the other day said it's one of their favorite thrillers, so I figured I'd check it out. I started it way too late last night and then had to force myself to stop reading because I was so tired 😴 But so far it's good! As a mother myself, it's absolutely *terrifying*, but the story is racing along and I can't wait to see what's gonna happen. Q: Have you read this one, and what did you think? 🌼 MINI BOOK REVIEW 🌼 Q: Do you enjoy buddy reads? If you've never done one, what do you think is holding you back? This month I again joined the #thrillerfriendsbuddyread, for which we read DAISY DARKER by @alicewriterland. This was my first Alice Feeney book, but it definitely won't be my last! This was a really fun locked-room-style mystery, with a family stranded by the tide on an island being picked off one by one. I have read so many thrillers and mysteries throughout my life that I usually know the twist coming or who the killer is before the big reveal, but I was *not* expecting this ending! AT. ALL. We had such a fun discussion about the book, as well, and if I'm not mistaken it was a 4 or 5 from everyone who participated. If you're a thriller fan, I HIGHLY recommend picking up Daisy Darker! I can't wait to read more from Alice Feeney myself. 📖 MOOD: #laidbackreadathon 📖 I was doing a reading sprint for the #laidbackreadathon earlier and was reminded of what a lovely place to read this is -- in the chaise lounge next to our side window that looks out into a little meadow area my husband planted because I said I wanted flowers 😍 I wish I had gotten more reading done, but it's hard to concentrate when you want to watch bumblebees flit from flower to flower 😂 (you can swipe to see a pic of the bee on the bee balm, as well as how the light from the window behind the chaise hits the book). 👯‍♀️ BLOG+BOOKSTAGRAM TOUR REVIEW 👯‍♀️ ✨ Flash giveaway in my stories!!! ✨ THE KILLING CODE is, incredibly, my first read by @elliemarney. I know I have an older one of hers on my shelf, but haven’t read it yet (which I will be rectifying immediately!). I was thrilled to join this tour and see what all the buzz is about. I love historical fiction books, and if you make it feminist *and* a murder mystery? I am so in! In this book we have “code girls,” the young women who worked night and day in the codebreaking brigade during the war, coupled with a series of gruesome murders of government girls that our intrepid group decide they must solve because the police are too blinded by their prejudices. The characters are all wonderfully drawn, and the romance is absolutely *chef’s kiss*. I had butterflies at the same time Kit and Moya did! There’s also loads of information on the actual codebreaking work the girls do, and it’s obvious a *ton* of research went into this book. Marney also addresses the racism, classism, and sexism of the era in America (which we all know isn’t just historical). I love the theme of found family, which is one of my favorite tropes, especially in YA. Top it off with some great mystery-solving techniques from Kit, Moya, Dottie, and Violet, and I can honestly say there is nothing I didn’t love about this book. I suspected I knew who the killer was, but I definitely wasn’t sure until right about when it was figured out, so that was a great ending for me! I highly recommend THE KILLING CODE to anyone who enjoys a great mystery and/or historical fiction. I really hope you’ll pick this up, and let me know what you think! ⚰️ BUDDY READ MINI REVIEW ⚰️ Not me actually starting off the month well with buddy reads! 💪💪 (Well, I probably shouldn't pat myself on the back too quickly, as I signed up for like 7 of them and I've only read one so far...but anyway 😂) I'm taking part in @novellybritt's #bamboozledbookclub this month with THE DEAD ROMANTICS by @heyashposton, and it was the first book club book I read this month. I really liked this sweet story! The family dynamics were one of my favorite things about the book, as well as the sort of "meta" aspect since the MC is a writer and her ghostly love interest is her editor. This is about a 🌶️ level of spice, so if you prefer rom-coms that aren't too steamy, this one's great for you!
