Flight Ticket Booking on a Shoestring Budget: Thrifty Travel Tips
In an era where wanderlust is a prevalent sensation and travel is considered an essential part of life, finding budget-friendly flight tickets has become an art form. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or a newbie adventurer, the quest for affordable airfare is always on the agenda. But fear not, as we unveil a treasure trove of thrifty travel tips to help you book your next flight without breaking the bank.
Book cheap flight tickets and hotels- https://cheaptravelfirst.com/
Plan Ahead, Book Early: The early bird gets the worm, and the early booker gets the deal. Booking your flight tickets well in advance often comes with significant savings. Airlines tend to offer lower prices for tickets booked months before the departure date. Keep an eye out for flash sales and promotions for even better deals.
Be Flexible with Dates and Destinations: Flexibility is key when hunting for budget-friendly flights. Consider traveling during off-peak seasons or mid-week when ticket prices are typically lower. Additionally, exploring alternative airports and nearby destinations can lead to substantial savings. Websites like Skyscanner and Google Flights offer flexible date options to help you find the cheapest fares.
Set Price Alerts: Stay ahead of the game by setting up price alerts on various booking platforms. These alerts notify you when there's a drop in prices for your desired route, allowing you to snag the best deals as soon as they become available. Some platforms even offer insights into price trends, helping you determine the optimal time to book.
Use Airline Rewards Programs: Make the most of frequent flyer programs and airline loyalty schemes to earn points and miles with every flight. Accumulated points can be redeemed for discounted or even free flights in the future. Additionally, co-branded credit cards often come with sign-up bonuses and perks such as free checked bags and priority boarding.
Opt for Budget Airlines: While luxury carriers offer comfort and convenience, budget airlines are the go-to option for travelers on a tight budget. These airlines offer no-frills flights at significantly lower prices, allowing you to allocate more of your budget to experiences at your destination. Just be mindful of additional fees for amenities like baggage and seat selection.
Clear Your Browser Cookies: Ever noticed how flight prices seem to magically increase after multiple searches? This phenomenon, known as dynamic pricing, can be circumvented by clearing your browser cookies or using incognito mode. By doing so, you prevent airlines from tracking your search history and potentially hiking up prices based on demand.
Consider Alternative Routes and Layovers: Embrace the scenic route by opting for flights with layovers or connecting flights. While direct flights may be more convenient, they often come with a higher price tag. By being open to layovers, you can discover new cities en route to your destination while saving money on airfare.
Bundle Up with Packages: Take advantage of travel packages that bundle flights, accommodation, and activities together. These package deals often offer significant discounts compared to booking each component separately. Websites like Expedia and Travelocity specialize in curating affordable travel packages tailored to your preferences.
Travel Light: Cut down on baggage fees by packing smart and traveling light. Stick to carry-on luggage whenever possible to avoid additional charges for checked bags. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the airline's baggage policy and weight restrictions to prevent any surprises at the check-in counter.
Be Ready to Jump on Deals: Finally, when you stumble upon a stellar deal, don't hesitate to book it immediately. Flight prices are highly volatile and can change within minutes. By acting fast and seizing the opportunity, you can secure the best possible price for your flight tickets.
In conclusion, scoring affordable flight tickets requires a combination of strategy, flexibility, and savvy planning. By implementing these thrifty travel tips, you can embark on your next adventure without draining your bank account. Remember, the journey begins the moment you book your ticket, so why not make it a budget-friendly one?

Magic had been a nefarious presence in Seth's life, a boot upon his throat which the former druid, former vampire turned liche would always vie to twist and turn into his favor. The cost to him was priceless, his vanity was nothing as it was shed to skeletal bones gleaned for the power he now possessed. A simple glamour would fix and mend the grotesque display of skeletal remains that now walked this earth, but it hardly mattered when Seth garnered what he longed to return to; that familiar coursing of magic through once stilled veins.
Yurena had wrought disappointment for the liche, though it had hardly come as a surprise. His little bird, the Returned little witch had always been so vastly tender hearted. She clutched to a deeper resonance of life than he, always overturning every stone for a deeper meaning, a tender resonance to explain that which was not explained to her. Their last conversation, before her ultimate checkmate upon the board, was less than savory; but the liche had always been slippery and Seth would navigate through this to his best ability.
Throughout everything, there was this slim urge to guide his little witch through her practices and rituals as she weaved her way through the book; but it was vital to note that the Criminal had never thought to twist her identity into something which she was not. He'd not push her towards the condemning darkness of the book if it was not the path she vied for, but he'd also not drop it for her. Yurena was always desperate to know each and every crevice of his life; such spiral must have been produced from the way her memories had been pilfered from her once before, a blank slate and identity that attempted to try on the book as though it were some thrifty sweater at a department store.
If only he'd known sooner the identity crisis his witch was steeped in, perhaps he could have urged her away from the book altogether; stopped her betrayal that would paint her as the Asphodel's pariah and enemy. Such circumstances, however, would not cease the Criminal's visitations to Yurena, and he smiled near cunningly as he slipped into the store and was greeted with that familiar disdain about her. The disdain she carried when they'd first met, littered with the remnants of curiosity shelved behind calloused words.
"Oh, but you're a Sovereign, are you not?" Seth saddled up next to her, despite the daggers that seemed to coat each frigid syllable that escaped Yurena's lips, "That means you'd suit to be the perfect teacher for my slacking banishment rituals."
who? @sethlozano where? fantasmagoria books
Yurena remembers everything, the warmth of family and the betrayal of love, or of what she has deemed a mocker of it. The knowledge she holds is everything, and yet it seems inadequate when she doesn’t know if it is enough to fill the shoes of those who are gone. Take sensing for example. She is aware of what her lessons taught her, that magic senses magic and she is able to identify other species through it. In the months since her return, she had expanded up, learned to tune it to recognize the species she had not known before, the ones of myths and legends that turned out to be real. She is aware that not every species senses magic the same way, she knows not every individual recognize others through the same means.
She knows that tasting the magic in the air is normal, that it it depends on the witch and their senses. Knows that some are capable of differentiating between individuals of a species because of how their magic tastes. She knows that some magic tastes rancid, remembers the bitter flavor of Cavaliere's magic as it twisted around her and drew her life out. Remembers the decadent taste of Seth's presence when they first met. It’s frustrating to remember so well, when she would rather forget. But she has a duty, and will not forget what finally helped made her choice.
The thoughts flit through her head as she stays behind the counter are disjointedness and heavy, tired as she is from waking up early to avoid the other specter haunting the Alstroemeria's Hall, her eyes have taken to wandering around the shop, the taste of an eclectic collection of spirits on the back of her throat. It’s a slow day, as every other day, so she is surprised when she hears the bell ring and looks up, only to meet ancient brown eyes and be hit by the taste a taste so familiar it almost aches.
It's the sweetness of rotten fruit, the enticing allusion of something forbidden and rotten to the core. She knows it was once a decadent and rich flavor underlayed with the particular flavor that described the individual vampire. But those times are long gone, along with his vampirism. In this case, there where there was once layer of something sharp and smokey and almost woodsy. Like the undertaste of grilled meat in a sunny day— a brief memory of her father in front of a grill appears and leaves her before she can process it—, a taste that reminded her of home. Her jaw aches at the reminder of the taste that is still there but has been twisted, and despite her lack of vampirism, she wants to sink her teeth in his throat. It's changed now, by his own choice and his own greed. The familiarity remains, the appeal of home it's the same, but the man who it belongs to is anything but.
She won't allow the familiarity. Not after everything.
“Italy’s Next Top Model is two blocks down,” she drawls mockingly, voice sharp and cruel as she turns to the next page of the grimoire she is annotating for Amaranthus' perusal. As far as she knew, the witch who it once had belonged to was a prolific blood mage and it would help further the coven's research. “And I don’t sell to people that don’t know proper banishment rituals, so that is that. So do get out before I decide to burn you to ashes.”

“A Trip Over the Transit Railroad”
by Joanna Grey Talbot
In 1883 journalist A. L. W. took a trip on the Transit Railroad in Florida, which connected Fernandina on the Atlantic to Cedar Key on the Gulf. They shared their experiences in an article published on the front page of the May 15, 1883, issue of the The Weekly Floridian in Tallahassee.
Let’s follow along as they visit 10 towns along the route.
“The majority of persons living in Middle Florida, whose business or pleasure has not railed them to the Eastern part of the State, have very little idea of the material progress, the great influx of immigration, I lie important industries, or the rapid development of the country along the line of the Transit Railroad, which connect Fernandina, the best harbor on our Atlantic coast, with the important port of Cedar Key on the Gulf of Mexico; nor is it possible in the short scope of one letter to convey more than a general view of this very important portion of the State. The traveller from Middle Florida, after a night spent in the comfortable sleepers of the Florida Central and Western Railroad, which is under the efficient management of Major W. M. Davidson, a Middle Florida man, strikes the Transit road at…”

Baldwin
“…long a very important transfer point for freights for the line of the Transit road. Cedar Key and the Gulf coast, which formerly came from the North and West via Savannah and Live Oak, but which, since the completion o! the Waycross “Short Line," is now delivered to the Transit system at Callahan, twenty miles north of Baldwin. […] The lumber industry along this road is immense, as is attested by the long trains of heavily loaded flat cars which were passed at various points; in fact, the monotony of the pine forest was almost constantly broken by a panorama of saw mills, young orange groves and handsome residences seen from the car windows as we sped along, till proving the existence of an industrious and thrifty population, each contributing his quota to the prosperity of the road and the material progress of the State. The towns of Highland, Lawty and Temples were passed when the brakeman called out…”
Call Street, Starke, Florida, courtesy of the State Library & Archives of Florida
Starke
“twenty minutes for dinner and alighting from the train we proceeded to the “Railroad House," kept by Mr. Kleinsmidt, an industrious German, who owns a farm and orange grove near town, while his estimable wile and charming daughters vie with each other in serving the tired traveller with all the good things which go to make up a first-class dinner. […] There are several groves in the vicinity, some bearing, while most of them are young.— In the town new houses are going up on all sides and the song of the saw and hammer is the music which greets one at every turn. […] Speeding along we soon reached…”
Seaboard Depot, Waldo, Florida, courtesy of the Matheson History Museum
Waldo
“…the junction of the Transit with the Peninsular Railroad. Here we switched off the through coach which is run daily from Jacksonville to Wildwood, thus obviating the necessity of a change of cars between these points. Waldo has a fine hotel, a cigar factory, several stores and churches, and is the terminal point of the Santa Fe Canal, which brings the fine orange country of the lake region within easy access of the railroad. […] Our next stopping place…”

Gainesville
“…the metropolis of East Florida, is a city of about four thousand inhabitants and the county site of Alachua, one of the richest agricultural counties in the State. […] Besides its numerous stores and other business places Gainesville has a bank, a cotton seed mill, three ginning establishments, three livery and sale stables, two depots (the Transit and Florida Southern), two first-class hotels, the Arlington and Varnum House, (the former about the size of our Leon) and quite a number of boarding houses. I have not space in this letter to devote to the above business enterprises the attention which each deserves. […] Six miles further on we come to…”
A Giant Crop of Irish Potatoes in Florida, courtesy of the Matheson History Museum
Arredondo
“…the boss vegetable station of the Transit road. I have not spoken of this industry heretofore because I was at a loss how to convey to the minds of your readers a just idea of the magnitude of this business on the line of the Transit and Peninsular roads. All along we had observed at the different stations large lots of vegetables in crates waiting shipment but here we saw the entire platform covered with piles on piles of crates filled with, beans, cucumbers, peas, Irish potatoes and cabbage […]. Some idea of the extent of the business may be gleaned front the fact that twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, an extra train far vegetables only, is run from Bronson to Fernandina to connect with the steamships of the Mallory line, in addition to the daily freight train.
Church Street, Archer, Florida, courtesy of the Matheson History Museum
Archer
“…also in Alachua county, is a live little town with five or six stores, and contributes its quota to the vegetable business. Peach culture has here been brought into some imminence by the Rev. J. P DePass, well known to many in our section.”
A.H. Bateman and family in front of their home in Bronson, ca. 1910, courtesy of the State Library & Archives of Florida
Bronson
“…the county site of Levy County, is distant from Cedar Keys about thirty-five miles. It has four stores, and besides being the shipping point of a vast scope of country for miscellaneous exports such as cotton, hides, wax, etc., being situated in the midst of a fine grazing country, large numbers of beef cattle are annually shipped from here to the markets of Savannah and Charleston. After passing Otter Creek, a flag station, we next arrive at…”
Rosewood
“…the residence of C. B. Dibble, Esq., who, in addition to his orange grove, has developed an entirely new industry; you who are familiar with the lovely flower gardens of the Floral City, just think of eight or ten acres in Tube Roses. The flowers are sold in Gainesville, Cedar Keys and other places, while the bulbs are shipped North, and I am told the proprietor has found it profitable. Soon after leaving this station we pass through a spur of the far-famed…”
Gulf Hammock fiber factory, ca. 1890, courtesy of the State Library & Archives of Florida
Gulf Hammock
“…probably the largest and finest body of hammock land in the State, whose sylvan depths furnish alike wealth to the enterprising cedar cutter, and the fattest turkeys and juiciest venison which ever tickled the palates of tourist epicures at the Egmont and St. James. Swiftly skimming over the few remaining miles we soon alighted at…”
Bird’s Eye View of Cedar Key, 1884, courtesy of the University of Florida Digital Collections
Cedar Keys
“…the Venice of the Gulf, whose cool sea breeze, fresh from the “cradle of the deep," tanned our (very dusty) brows, and tossed the smoke-plumes of our locomotive in fantastic wreaths and curls, the same whose shrill whistle had in the early morn mingled with the hoarse roar of old ocean as he piled his white-capped waves high on the smooth beach at Fernandina. […] Cedar Keys has been so often written up, and is so well known by reason and its importance as a Gulf port, that any attempt of my weak pen to do it justice would be futile. […] The principal industries of Cedar Key are its lumber mills, of which there are four or five for the manufacture of pine lumber, and two cedar mills belonging respectively to the Faber and Eagle Pencil Companies. In addition to the above its export of fish and oysters is a source of great revenue, while its sponge trade is by no means an inconsiderable item of its business. […]
“I have already spun this letter out to more than double my original intention, and yet “the half remains untold,” for one could find material for many letters in the beautiful little city of Cedar Key, and its adjacent Islands, bays and rivers, which I left with regret, feeling that next to the breezy hills of Tallahassee I would rather live on the lovely Gulf Coast of Florida.”

[ jeon jungkook. / male. / he/his. ] i heard han jaesung is going into business with their friends, but the twenty-five year old can’t go wrong with nine other people helping, right? they’re a former sous chef, but will be a chef at joliet bed & breakfast! their insensitive yet dependable personality is pretty fitting for that, i guess. the sight of them gives me the vibe of midnight drive-ins, humming to yourself as you work, a breeze ruffling through a clothesline and that one clip of a deflated dancing pikachu getting hauled off stage, and seeing that running across the sand is pretty sweet.
fabric softener, that one clip of a deflating dancing pikachu getting hauled off-stage, curling up in freshly warmed sheets, sizzling plates, the slow drag of a bow over a violin, bus rides with your head leaned against the window, earphones at full blast, midnight drive-ins, humming to yourself as you work, singing when you think you're alone, the beach at sunrise, a breeze ruffling through a clothesline
hi i’m miki and i’m excited 2 b here!!! this is m’boy jason (or jae, or jaesung) and he’s fairly new SO!!!! smash that like and i’ll come to u for plotting!

the biography
—o1. jason grew up in a modern korean household in maryland; his parents are more open-minded than the traditional korean family, so there’s really no dramatic backstory to write. he’s the eldest of three siblings, and they’re pretty much a tight-knit family. while he was encompassed by a totally western environment, his family never failed to remind them of their roots; they would travel to korea every summer to visit his grandparents in seoul.
—o2. as a child, jason’s favourite past-time was watching his parents cook. his father is a renowned celebrity chef of a five-star restaurant in la, and his mother was the owner of a quaint bakery in ocean city. soon enough, his father was teaching him the basics of cooking. he was a natural, and by high school, he was on his way into becoming a chef like his father. the path to his dream career had been an easy one; his parents were well-known, and through family connections, jason earned himself a spot in one of the best culinary schools in the world: the institute of culinary education.
—o3. wherever jason went, he was overshadowed by the family name. he loved his parents, he really did, but being the son of joowon han came with a privilege, of sorts. a privilege that he hated. people were convinced that jason only managed to get in ICE was because of his family background. he’d often hear whispers from peers; he was often criticised for depending on his parents—which was true, in a sense. jason didn’t have to worry about anything. while his fellow classmates were worrying over their career paths, he had a sous chef position waiting for him at his father’s restaurant right after graduation.
—o4. being the youngest sous chef in a five-star restaurant was difficult. twenty-one year olds weren’t taken seriously in the kitchen. especially not the head chef’s son, who was fresh out of culinary school and looked so out of place, with his dark leather jacket and ripped jeans. jason struggled the first few months; while the people were cordial around his father, he had to endure passive-aggressive comments about his privilege behind the scenes. jason wanted to make a name for himself; he didn’t want to be reduced to a celebrity chef’s son who just got lucky. so he worked—he worked and worked and worked until the jealous muttering stopped and he gained the respect of his subordinates.
—o5. after three years into working with his father, the enthusiasm ebbed and jason felt nothing but dissatisfaction. he didn’t want this—he didn’t want to be clinging on to his father for support his entire life. fearing that his passion for cooking will wither if he kept on working at the restaurant, he quit and moved back to maryland, getting a place for himself and eager to learn to stand on his own two feet.
in-depth
—a natural-born leader: working as a sous chef enabled jason to have a great command of handling a team. at first, he had been meek, but through determination and his sheer drive to prove the negative people in his life wrong, he was able to cultivate himself into a good leader. in the kitchen, jason is totally in his element, oozing with confidence and assertiveness.
—the dependable one: jason is organised and he’s the type of person who you can rely on for help. he prioritises his friends and family over anything else. need someone to drive you home? jason’s the guy for you. suffering from a bad hangover? he’s got the perfect hangover shake. you lost your house keys and need a place to stay? jason’s got an extra room in his apartment ready. jason is always making sure his friends are well cared for. and probably also giving them lectures whenever they make questionable choices.
—this bitch is impulsive: as much as jason has his shit together, jason can be impulsive—you might catch him splurging on the new yeezy shoes, or planning a spontaneous, overpriced trip to the bahamas. he likes having fun, and sometimes, that energy gets him into tricky situations. he really likes spending money, and unfortunately, his parents never taught him the important value of thriftiness.
—sometimes he can be harsh: jason had been pampered all throughout his life, and sometimes he disregards other people’s feelings because he is simply oblivious—brutal honesty is a double-edged sword. it takes a lot to piss him off, because he’s rather good at handling his emotions, but when you successfully do, it’s not a pretty sight. he tends to say things he doesn’t mean in the heat of the moment. in addition, jason tends to hold grudges; if someone has done him wrong, you bet your ass he’ll never look at you the same way ever again.
+: energetic, headstrong, intuitive, protective
-: argumentative, insensitive, over-analytical, rash
miscellaneous
— drives around town with his bike! he has a car but it’s parked in his childhood home… he doesn’t really use it that much unless he needs to go out of the state or something
— has a white lil pet hamster named bonnie...she is his CHILD!!!!!! — he has a food blog that he constantly updates for fun; his following is steadily going up... amazin....
— has always been an artsy kid... if he didn’t like cooking so much he would’ve pursued a career in art — always seems to be snacking on something? raw carrots in particular...... — he is also a gym rat! he eats a damn lot, so he’s gotta burn those calories, right? he usually jogs early in the morning and goes to the gym after work — he’s played the violin ever since he was a child! he wants to learn how to play the guitar but he keeps on procrastinating
the wanted connections (if any of these interest you, hit me up! some are more detailed than others but all of them are open to modifications tbh, we can develop them however we want :) feel free to choose multiple plots..,.,. go crazy)
— vibe check. - sometimes, he forgets to take care of himself and this person!!!! is his mom friend, the terry to his jake peralta, the person he can count on when he’s crossfaded in the middle of nowhere at 3 in the morning. (ivy)
— bff. - the ride or die. the one person jason would literally murder for. he loves them and considers them as his family. they are 100% with each other and? both are probably equally chaotic sfjldsdjfhsdlk (minnie)
— the squad. - i really love the idea of jason having three close friends! i can see them going on spontaneous trips and doing really, really dumb shit in general dsjfls (1/3) — the roommate. - PLS! he needs a roommate...imagine the domesticity i’m WEAK (minki)
— buzzfeed unsolved. - jason believes in the supernatural. this person doesn’t. jason spends a lot of his free time trying to convince this person that ghosts are, in fact, real, often taking them to ‘haunted’ places and attempting to summon spirits through his ouija board. (minnie)
— i’m baby. - basically, jason dotes on this person like a mama bird. he cooks them meals, drives them to places and always keeps an eye out for them. — the confidant. - the person he could say he truly trusts the most; while jason is generally sociable, he finds it hard to open up to people, preferring to be the confidant than to confide in his friends. they’re the first person he runs to when he’s upset or stressed. (sienna)
— friends. - open to multiple of all types (fellow foodie, gym buddies, unlikely, one-sided, frenemies, neighbors, etc.)
— flings, hookups, fwbs. - open to multiple. (can be messy, can be casual)
— exes. - jason has lived in ocean city all his life, so anything is possible! they could’ve been at the same high school, maybe they broke up because jason moved to new york and the relationship fizzled out, they could be on good terms or bad terms………GIVE ‘EM TO ME (sienna; exes on good terms with a tiny bit of unresolved feelings)
— the pianist. - this is a lil specific, but basically i imagine jason having participated in music competitions and performed in galas, and this person is their partner!! their other half!!! the nodame to his chiaki!!!! if ur muse can play the piano pls hmu this is just a really cute relationship that i cant stop thinkin about bc jason is a violin nerd (ivy)
— romance. - i’m a hoe for spicy plots! i don’t really want to give out anything specific, but some suggestions aaaare: opposites, exes w/ feelings, one-sided love, skinny love, a love-hate relationship…..
feel free to go through my wanted connections tag for inspiration!

I feel like the Hawks tag has been a little bare as far as HCs go for a little bit so throwing my hat in once again while I wait for dinner to cook between stirrings.
Finances:
Hawks grew up dirt poor - like concerningly poor. Now that he's rolling in the dough he literally has no idea how he would ever spend it all.
What's more, he doesn't WANT to spend it willy-nilly. He grew up with the mindset that money was a responsibility, not a luxury. He takes his responsibility very seriously.
When he started hero work and immediately shot to the top and saw his checks swell at breakneck speeds, the first thing he did was hire a finance manager to make sure he planted his money into investments instead of burning through it or letting it sit stagnant.
He has a diverse enough portfolio that should he be out of work for good today he still wouldn't need to work another day in his life if he didn't want to.
But now that he's settled he makes a point to donate large amounts to charities focusing on underprivileged families and children in particular.
He tries to keep it under the radar, though. Part of it is him desperately trying to avoid the top hero spot but another part is a genuine sense of humility trying to do what's right.
He actually ended up with a personal procurement staff at his brand consultant's suggestion. People who are clearly paid enough money are often expected to act like it, and he almost caused a scene when he was on a live interview and learned the actual cost of his ensemble that had been picked for him.
He looked somewhere between horrified and absolutely going to be sick (Do you know exactly how many rotisserie chicken dinners that could buy?!?!), but he recovered and got someone else to hold his credit card for him. Now all he does is tell them his tastes in clothes, furniture, etc. and they find and buy it for him so he doesn't have to look at the price tag, and they only get something when he speaks up to mention it.
He has good people, though. They still try to keep costs down for his sake. He still buys all his own food, though.
Still, some habits are just a little more deeply ingrained, and he practically breathes the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra. He's often praised for taking care of the planet; but honestly he's just so thrifty deep into his bones it hurts to be wasteful.
He also can't help but resent people (often entitled people born into money) who don't understand how fortunate they are and take everything, especially people, for granted.
Family:
Hawks was an only child (wait and watch Horikoshi throw an enormous family in my face later) and lived with his mother, father, and grandmother.
Gran-gran was his favorite playmate, and the two were thick as theives. She was the one who really cemented many of his key values as a person as well as taught him how to fly.
His grandmother was not a conventionally attractive woman. She had pronounced, almost masculine features; a scowl that could send people running, wild hair, and a long, prominent nose. She looked like a tengu, though the wings on her back also earned her the mean nickname of "harpy" from time to time as well.
Hawks' good looks are thanks to his late grandpa - a guy with a much more bird-like quirk.
Gran-gran was clever, though, and tough as nails! She wasn't afraid to make her grandson earn all his victories in their games, but she was also doting and praised him when he did well or did his best.
God, what he wouldn't do to spend just one more festival with her watching the fireworks again. He misses her more than even he realizes.
Hawks' father did his best to provide for his family, but the financial hardships got on top of them more times than he's proud of. Sometimes it was hard for him to look his family in the eye.
His mother also tried to bring in money with odd jobs, but often ended up sick and having to rest at home. Her telekenesis quirk was what gave Hawks his quirk's competitive edge to it.
Hawks always wanted brothers or sisters, but it was never financially in the cards for them. To this day he loves big families, and the sight of parents juggling three or more children always makes him smile.
If he hadn't been taken away to boarding school for his training and separated from his family, they probably would have bonded even closer and continued to grow again. He'd hoped for that when he agreed to it; but he didn't understand the depth of the situation or the greed/desperation of the Hero Public Safety Commission.
Personal life:
Hawks is too busy for a pet, but that hasn't stopped him from wondering what kind he'd get if he could.
He really does just get along well with birds, so he'd probably get one, but a smaller one that probably wouldn't outlive him. He couldn't do that to the poor thing, nor could he only get one. Bare minimum he would ever get of any pet is two because even if he wasn't as busy as he was he probably still couldn't necessarily give a social bird the time it needed to be happy. Friends are a must.
As much as he loves the personality of the larger birds, he knows it takes a lot of patience to live with them on top of the life span thing, so he'd probably get some parakeets or cockatiels.
He'd be lying if he didn't admit getting chickens has crossed his mind on several occasions.
If he had to pick a fuzzy buddy, though, he likes ferrets. When they're not bouncing off the walls full of energy, they're out cold for a good snooze. (That's the life!)
Learning how to play an instrument is also on his bucket list. He knows it's so basic, but he would love to pick up the guitar. He doesn't expect to be any kind of amazing musician and his singing voice is less than stellar; but he'd just like to be able to play some of his favorite tunes for himself from time to time.
He's an easy person to like, but he is not easy to love or live with. Much of his darker personality traits come out the more time he spends with people. They aren't "evil" traits, by any means, but much more like survival mechanisms developed by the lifestyle forced on him that are clearly unhealthy the longer you look at them.
Like his instinctual need to control any given circumstance or interaction. It's not something he does out of malice; but it becomes obvious if you look close enough. He doesn't feel like he has agency over his own life, and people on all sides are always trying to take advantage of him.
He also ever so subtly changes his persona depending on the situation and company present. It's such a habit at this point even he doesn't realize he does it. We've seen before that he can expertly read a room and react accordingly.
Hawks is also used to putting up emotional barriers between himself and people with potentially meaningful relationships to him. Whether consciously or not, since losing his family he's afraid of losing people important to him again.
This poor man is also unbelievably touch starved. His childhood was filled with affectionate hugs and roughhousing as it was one of the few things they had in spades. Now, not only is he alone in the middle of a VERY "hands-off" society, he has his public image to manage as well.
Someone get this guy a therapist, seriously! He's too close to the situation to realize how precarious and easily compromisable his mental health state is, but on all sides are people that would discourage him from seeking therapy because it could be considered as being "weak" where mental illness is stigmatized.
Hawks has only been truly furious once in his life as a adolescent. It was terrifying for everyone there at the time as he completely let loose and lost control in the heat of the moment. He tries to keep himself reined in since then, but as with many other things doesn't realize he may be making it worse by bottling up his frustrations and shoving it down.
That isn't to say he's incapable of deep, meaningful relationships - romantic or platonic - but the amount of firm patience and persistence needed from the other party nears sainthood. He craves those relationships and NEEDS them, but he's deathly afraid of losing them as well as being vulnerable and taken advantage of.
If he got even just one or two people that could truly love him unconditionally like that, that would be enough for him to completely reprioritize everything. His hero's heart was born out of love and uncertainty about tomorrow as a child; and Commission or not he would have become a hero in the end anyway. As a grown man, that kind of love would drive him to be a force to be reckoned with the kind that would make his past accomplishments pale in comparison.
To be clear, a good friend or a lover would not "fix" him, but would certainly help and encourage him make the time and space he needs to examine and work through his own issues he's let bottle up for so long. There just isn't much pushing him to do so while he's as isolated as he is.
(I've made myself really sad now...)
He's a generous friend and lover, though, once he allows himself to open up. Though from an outside perspective Hawks really doesn't need much - just patience and time and attention - to him it's everything, and he'll do nearly anything to show his gratitude for it.
(That's a little better)
That turned out way longer than anticipated, but here ya go! I promise I'll get back to writing (haven't forgotten those kiss prompts!) soon. I have a commission and a painting to finish, but now that baby takes regular naps I can finally take time for me again!

Living the Fantasy.
I spoke about this before. The reason people want to get into filmmaking is to live the fantasy. Everyone's fantasy is different, but they always involve a life you aren't currently living. It's always about what you think will make you the happiest, and not necessarily what you need at that moment. Mine was an exception to that rule because I was living my fantasy and it was what I needed at that moment.
When I was with her, I was the happiest I've ever been. I woke each day with a smile on my face to the sound of birds chirping away. Full disclosure, my neighborhood is also a bird sanctuary so that could have contributed to my Disney Movie fantasy life as well, but I do believe the birds would have followed us anywhere to sing to her. I rolled over to see her there sleeping, dreaming and looking as amazing as ever. I would gently wake her by kissing on her neck and loved the way she smelled in the morning. I've said this before, she was the only person I knew that could smell so incredible after waking up. As most people do not.
After kissing on her neck for a bit, and making her giggle, I would run downstairs, and make us both coffee. Usually, I went over the top trying to mimic my own caramel frappuccino. I would even whip up some cream. I chilled the coffee as I made breakfast and usually brought it to her in bed. We were happy, at least I thought we were. But keeping the fantasy can be a routine because once you consistently do it, you need to keep doing it. See I never learned that before now, because I never wanted to do it until now.
After breakfast, we would do what we needed to do that day. In our open time, we would go to stores and just look around. Seeing what decorations we could get for our place. Something artistic, wooden and rustic looking. Aphorism cards attached to wooden frames or boards. Lavender and Mint oils. We would look at furniture as well. We were living the starter lifestyle as neither of us was settled or set in our ways. With minimal Netflix watching exceptions to that as well. We weren't buying anything super expensive, but money wasn't our main focus either. DIY and thrifty shopping was what we concentrated on.
We would decorate our place, focusing mainly on our bedroom. Above her desk, she hanged a picture frame and draped twinkle lights around it. She added a small lamp with a wood and paper shade to my desk. It was really sweet the way she made the room. I miss it and truth be told I haven't changed anything since she left. Everything is still in the same spot it was while she was here. Just missing her and what she made of it.
I still don't know why she left. She never gave me a reason and in my desire to always give her what she wanted I never asked. I wish I would have asked and I wish I would have told her a thousand times over that I loved her the night she left instead of just once. Some have told me that maybe I gave her too much and that's why. That it wasn't exactly a mystery that I would go above and beyond for her each day. I really don't think I did that much for her to be honest. Breakfast in bed is not exactly building the Taj Mahal or the Coral Castle. I wanted to make her happy. I vowed to make her happy, and whatever it took I was ready to do.
People will always argue with me that you can't do that every day. The time isn't there, the energy isn't there, that is unsustainable. Oh, and the worst thing in their minds, she gets used to it, and one day you don't do it she gets upset. Even at this moment, I can't forgive that argument. I would want the woman I love to get used to being treated like she deserves. I would want her to be used to me doing nice things, and I'm 'not' sorry if I wrecked it for someone else, because I would hope she's now accustomed to a certain level of treatment. I don't ever want her to settle for less than what she deserves. No boyfriend or husband should ever want your significant other to settle for less than what she deserves.
I found the time to do a lot for her, and I found the energy. I was doing things for her first because I put her first over anything else. Because I was living my fantasy, and that was it. I wanted to wake up next to someone that smelled incredible, and her beauty was unmatched. I wanted to have this amazing girlfriend that I could talk to for more than 15 minutes without getting bored of wanting to slash my wrist. I wanted to be with someone so amazing that kissing them made everything good possible and everything bad but a distant memory. I wanted someone that I could live that starter lifestyle with. The one where you are buying things together for the first time because you want to be together and have a life together. I was living my fantasy, and I wish every day I could have it back.
On set, I have been able to live a fantasy life that many people wish they could live. Having a lightsaber battle on a distant planet in a galaxy far far away, it wasn't in the movie, but I did it. Sitting in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon with Chewbacca for a quick camera test, I did it. Playing a spy being chased around a secret government installation, I did that too. Laying in bed with a gorgeous actress, yeah I definitely did that. I love camera tests and being called in as a stand-in. It wasn't the highest paying job by any means but the benefits are amazing, and for a film geek like myself they were life-changing.
So maybe it is because of my film life that I just look for a fantasy that many might take for granted. I can't tell you how to treat the person you love. It's not really my place anyway, but how would you feel if you lost them? You can't point to me as the example of, "well he did all that and still lost her so why even bother with the effort?" I did lose her, and it sucks every single day. But for a time I was living my fantasy, I was happy, and life was absolutely perfect. I had the girl I wanted, the life I wanted, the family I wanted and also the extended family I really wanted. Add another movie a couple months down the road, and I had everything. Then somehow I lost everything, except for the movie but at the time that didn't matter to me.
Jobs come and go, just like money does. Don't let that be your concentration for a better life. Instead, focus on what you have now with the people you love. Don't take anyone or anything for granted. Because if you lose them or it, your heart will break into pieces so small that they are barely visible. Then suddenly the things you thought were more important will seem trivial and needless to you. Love whoever you are with for however long you can. Never put yourself in a position to wonder if you could have loved them more or could have spent more time with them. Know that you gave them all your heart every single day and if you lose them write a blog to help yourself heal.
End of Meal Break.

Cleaning Tips
73 easy cleaning tips that you need to know!
We have put together some of our best home cleaning tips and tricks to help you get an impeccable home for a fraction of the price. Lots of natural, cheap, fast, useful and cheerful cleaning tips, with everything from foil to vinegar and lemons, which should save you time and money when cleaning your home.
1. Use a wet rubber glove to remove pet hair.
If Fido and Felix have ruined your house and are making you sneeze, there is a cheap and easy solution. A wet wash glove can easily be dragged on soft furniture such as sofas and curtains (and even the legs of the pants!) To remove animal hair.

2. Use a flip flop to remove pet hair
You don't have gloves to wash? Use a rubber flip-flop (clean!) On your furniture it will work just as well. It is especially useful if (like us) is constantly losing flip flops and ends with the odd ones.
3. Use a coffee filter to clean glass or mirrors easily
Ah coffee, you are what brings us out of bed, and now we have discovered that you offer much more. Step up dirty windows without any chemicals: simply move them with a clean coffee filter. It works like magic.
4. Wear socks to prevent your vacuum from accumulating coins
Don't throw those socks with a ladder! Save money and small precious items by using the foot of a pair of socks on your vacuum nozzle. It will capture any changes, hair bands and other pieces before they are absorbed.
5. Clean your microwave naturally with a cup of water
If your microwave looks a bit unhealthy after too many food explosions, don't worry, you can clean it for free in a jiffy. Simply place a cup of heat-resistant water with half a lemon and its juice in the microwave at high temperature for a minute or two. 1. Leave the mixture in the microwave with the door closed for 5 minutes for the steam to do its job, then easily clean the inside of your microwave. Lemon will let your whole kitchen smell clean and fresh!
6. Reuse cleaning sponges, simply clean them in the microwave
It may seem that you are constantly buying new packages of kitchen and bathroom cleaning sponges, and not only do the costs add up, but it is not good for the environment to keep throwing away the dirty ones. Get more use of your cleaning sponges by giving them a quick blast of one or two minutes in the microwave in a high setting. This will kill the bacteria.

7. Make a quick natural cleaning product for your entire home
Feel like a magician who saves money with this easy-to-eat recipe. Simply mix four tablespoons of baking soda and a liter of warm water to make a cheap and natural universal cleaner. Use it generously on your surfaces, floors and anywhere else you need a scrub.
8. Great tip to save money: clean the scale of lime in your shower with vinegar
We love it when we can make the ingredients in the kitchen cabinet become a cleaning product that eliminates germs. If you're looking for a more natural (not to mention thrifty) way to clean your home from top to bottom, Vinegar is your new best friend. Soak your shower head in a mixture of boiling water and vinegar to easily unclog any lime. More vinegar cleaning tips.
9. Use baby oil to remove fingerprints from stainless steel.
Baby oil is not only for smoothing and softening the skin, it is also a genius for lifting fat. If your kitchen hood or other stainless steel appliances are dirty with finger marks, place a small amount of baby oil on a clean microfiber cloth and clean them.
10. Use an old toothbrush to clean your bathroom
Do not throw away your old toothbrush, it can be a really useful tool. Rinse it in boiling water to eliminate germs and use it to enter corners and cracks that your vacuum cannot reach. It is especially useful in the bathroom, to clean hard-to-reach areas around the tap or drain.
11. Top cleaning tip: use a fabric softener sheet to prevent your container from smelling
There is nothing more annoying than emptying the trash to discover that it still smells bad afterwards. If you have a stinky container, place a fabric softener sheet next to the container bag for an instant air freshener. You can also experiment with different scented varieties.
12. Stop the shoes smell like baking soda
Again, baking soda to the rescue! If your sneakers or day shoes have seen too many sweaty walks and are getting a bit annoying, it is an easy problem to remedy. Sprinkle some baking soda on smelly trainers for an instant lift.
13. Get stains of wood marker with toothpaste
If the grandchildren have gone crazy with the markers on their railings, table or anything else made of wood, gently rub it with a little toothpaste to remove the stain. Then go and give them a good scolding and a nice (easy to erase) pencil set instead!
14. Clean the brush quickly with water and washing liquid
We don't really think about cleaning our hair brushes (apart from removing hair), but when you think about it, it makes sense that they get dirty with grease and the accumulation of products, just like our hair. Get rid of debris from hair spray, dry shampoo or any other hair product by mixing washing liquid and warm water and taking a dip.
15. Make a natural cleaning product with scented vinegar to help at home
Mix a part of white vinegar with a part of water to make a basic household spray (ideal for anyone suffering from allergies, as it is very mild). Can't stand the smell of fish and chips? Add some fresh herbs to the mixture: sage has a particularly clean smell, but you can experiment with anything that is really growing in your garden.
16. Unblock a clogged drain for free with baking soda
Baking soda to the rescue once again! This time it is a wonder to unlock hair or clogged drains. Pour a part of baking soda, followed by a part of vinegar, then cover with a damp cloth while the two react with each other to clean the drain naturally. Wait five minutes and then run hot water to clean it.
17. Clean the white shoes with toothpaste
Tennis shoes a little dirty? Coaches don't look so new after some muddy walks? No one will know that they are not fresh out of the box with this easy trick. White striped sports shoes can revive by rubbing with toothpaste. Slightly mint smell, an advantage.
18. Clean the kitchen cabinets with liquid detergent
Greasy and stained food cabinets can give you a new chance of life when you mix a stream of liquid detergent with some warm water; It is amazing how much dirt will come out of your sponge. Once you've seen it, you'll make sure that this becomes commonplace on your to-do list!
19. Clean your cutting board with lemon
Our cutting boards are used a lot, from joints of meat and fish fillets, to cutting fruits and vegetables almost every night, so it is not surprising that they end up a little tired. Lemons are excellent for removing stains from cutting boards, as well as to eliminate any smell. Still not changing? Sprinkle with baking soda and repeat.
20. Silver shines quickly with toothpaste
If you are lucky enough to own some precious silver pieces and bobs, keeping them in optimal condition could not be simpler. Improve those wedding gifts and silver jewelry with a little water and some toothpaste. Rinse and dry with a cloth and it should look like new. We believe it is one of the most satisfactory cleaning jobs.
21. Clean garden furniture with liquid detergent
If your patio furniture looks neglected after a busy summer, you should remove any spots of rain, lichen and bird droppings as soon as possible. Add a stream of liquid detergent to a bucket of warm water and rub the garden table and chairs. Then rinse them with the hose.
22. Quick tip: stop rusting on garden furniture with tomato sauce
If your patio furniture has also oxidized, apply a bit of ketchup before rubbing it with a cloth; Rust will rise immediately. Then use the rest of the bottle on a delicious summer barbecue!
23. Get rid of stains on clothes at a low price with liquid detergent
It is so frustrating to stain clothes with food or drink, and why does it always seem to be our favorite outfit? Do not fear, all is not lost. Rub the washing liquid directly on the stain and then rinse with water; It works on most fabrics, including wool or delicate silk, provided you do so immediately.
24. Use ketchup to make your copper pans shine
Copper is having a fashionable moment right now, and copper pans are a great way to modernize your kitchen. If they get dirty after use, there is a cheap solution hidden in your closet. The humble tomato sauce is really excellent for cleaning, and will make the copper pans shine after a quick massage.

25. Remove wood furniture marks with a nut
Have you scraped your railings with the washing basket or hit your socket by taking off your shoes? Sounds strange, but a walnut (without shell) rubbed on furniture, floors or wooden rails scratched or scratched will be a pleasure.
26. Clean your bathroom with vodka
Is there a bottle of unloved vodka from a meeting? If you don't like making cocktails, you can always use it to make your porcelain accessories shine! Rub a little on a soft cloth and rub them.
27. Stop your pantry looking smelly with baking soda
Do you think the sheets and towels smell a bit stale during storage? Take out the baking soda again to prevent your linen closet from smelling damp. Leaving an open box of baking soda inside will mask odors.
28. Remove carpet stains with liquid detergent.
If you have just spilled a glass of wine, or something stained, on your carpet, act by dissolving a tablespoon of washing liquid in two cups of warm water and drying the stain until it disappears. Then, sponge the carpet with cold water and dry it.
29. Stop squeaking floors with baby powder
If you keep waking your husband by stepping on crunchy boards on the floor at night, he will thank you for trying this easy trick. Use talcum powder or baby powder to silence the noisy wooden floors. Drop a little to the ground and sweep in the cracks, cleaning up the excess.
30. Remove coffee stains with toothpaste.
Dirty mug? Like coffee stains on teeth, the answer to your problem is in the bathroom cabinet. Get rid of tea or coffee stains from your favorite cup by rubbing with toothpaste. Then rinse thoroughly to make sure your next drink has no mint flavor.
31. Use baking soda to clean your dishwasher
Keeping your dishwasher in good working order will save you a lot of money in the long run, and it's easy to do. To begin, shake the baking soda on a damp sponge and clean it around the edges of your dishwasher to remove any food residue.

32. Excellent cleaning advice: remove grease stains from glued clothing
If you have spots of oily food on a beloved shirt, you can save it thanks to an unlikely ally. Add a simple coke cake to your washing machine along with your detergent and run it in a normal cycle. The acid in the drink will help dissolve difficult stains.
33. Clean stains from your toilet with Coca-Cola
And that is not all that this humble soda can offer in terms of cleanliness. Put a dirty loo back to a bright white by pouring a can of cola. Let it sit in the bowl overnight, quickly rub it with a brush and then rinse the next morning to get a great effect.
34. Put a lemon in your refrigerator so it smells good
Why do so many of our favorite foods leave our stinky refrigerator? Cut a lemon in half and place one on the top shelf, one on the bottom shelf, to mask strong odors in your refrigerator.
35. Get rid of burning smells with salt
Burned your dinner? If the house now smells like burning, just sprinkle some salt on your burned pots or any food disaster to reduce it. Then reduce your losses and order a takeaway!
36. Clean your free pans with aluminum foil
Aluminum foil has many uses: on the one hand, you can use it instead of a scourer. Simply drag it into a ball and rub pots and pans. It's a great way to recycle your sandwich wrap, as well as save you money.
37. Sharpen your scissors with aluminum foil
Scissors break so easily, especially if you use them to cut paper or wrap gifts. But you don't need to replace them. Simply use your scissors to cut a piece of foil to sharpen them in an instant.
38. Remove the lime from your plate with vinegar
Keep your iron working well by removing excess lime. Simply heat it, unplug it and let it cool a bit. Fill the tank with a part of white vinegar for a part of water. Leave it for an hour, then empty and rinse.
39. Seal an envelope with nail polish
If you have a duff envelope that simply does not seal, or if you want to reseal a letter that was opened, use a drop of nail polish to glue it again. Opt for a transparent nail polish if you don't want it to look weird! We also like to use transparent nail varnish to prevent the stairs from spreading in our socks, so it is worth investing in a bottle to keep in the house.
40. Protect wood or laminate floors with a tennis ball.
Prevent your wooden or laminate floors from scratching with chairs or other furniture by cutting the tennis balls in half and placing them on the end of the chair, table and sofa legs as floor protectors.
41. Polish furniture with olive oil
In addition to having great health benefits, olive oil can be useful at home. Put a few drops in a duster and use it to polish your wooden furniture, much better than chemical polishing, and it will not cause any strong smell.
42. Cheap tip: wear old socks as dusters
Do you have a hole in your socks? Don't throw them away, give them a wash and then use them as a duster. The same goes for weird socks (which we always seem to finish, no matter how carefully we wash our clothes).
43. Use a pastry brush to clean the crumbs of your toaster
Obtain hard-to-reach crumbs and burnt pieces of your toaster by unplugging and sweeping with a pastry brush. This will help your toaster last longer and make crumbs less likely to catch and smell.
44. Get rid of greasy footprints on the walls with white bread
Sounds strange, but rubbing the finger marks with a slice of white bread will give your walls a new chance of life. We are not sure how someone discovered this, but we are grateful that they did ...
45. Prevent your washing machine from smelling vinegar
Washer smelly? Run it empty in a hot wash with a cup of white vinegar inside. This will also help remove lime and mold, making the machine last longer and clean more efficiently.
46. Clean your iron with salt and foil
If you have a dirty iron, remove accumulated dirt from the bottom with salt and foil. Turn on the iron and pass it on a piece of aluminum foil sprinkled with salt.
47. Clean your bathroom with a grapefruit
Get rid of water marks or stains in your bathtub by cutting a grapefruit in half, sprinkling some rock salt and giving it a good scrub. Have the other half for a nutritious breakfast!
48. Kitchen cleaning tip: decalcify your kettle with vinegar
Remove the lime from your kettle by filling it with half white vinegar, half water and soak overnight. In the morning, rinse it and the lime will disappear. Not only will your kettle last longer, but your drinks will also taste better (assuming you've washed the vinegar!)
49. Get rid of clothes moths naturally with herbs
Clothes moths make us very angry, and once you have them they can be difficult to remove. Make a natural repellent for clothing moths by packing some dried herbs such as lavender, clove, bay leaf, rosemary or thyme and placing it in your closet and drawers.
50. Use Vaseline to shine your shoes
Lack of bitumen? Use some reliable petroleum jelly to shine in a jiffy. It is also cheap.
51. Remove watermarks and cup rings from tables with a hair dryer.
If someone has not used a roller coaster and has marked their coffee table, use a hair dryer before cleaning the area with a small amount of olive oil. Hey-presto, good as new.
52. Clean your blinds with vinegar
Blinds can be a magnet for dust, dead insects and floating fluff. Make them look like new with an old sock. Mix a part of white vinegar with a part of warm water and rub the blinds with an old sock to remove dust and dirt.
53. Clean and disinfect your dishwasher with vinegar
Place two cups of undiluted vinegar in a dishwasher-safe container on the top shelf of an empty dishwasher and put it in a hot cycle. It should help clean the pipes and make it smell better.
Move in Cleaning Service, Condo Cleaning Service Toronto, Housekeeper Toronto
54. Make a bleach of natural clothes with lemon
If the white clothes and the bedding have turned yellow or are marked with orange spots, squeeze the juice of a lemon into 4.5 liters of hot water and immerse your clothes in it for an hour. Then rinse in the washing machine or by hand and dry.
55. Remove rust from cutlery with an onion
There is no need to cry for rusty cutlery, unless cutting an onion makes you cry. If your knives and forks have rusted, glue their ends on an onion a couple of times and the rust should rise immediately.
56. Cool Tupperware with baking soda
If your plastic food tubs have seen too many packed lunches or leftovers, and they are smelling or stained, you don't need to replace them. Simply invite them to a night at the spa! Soak them in the sink overnight in warm water with a tablespoon of baking soda, and the next day, after a rinse, they will look and smell again.
57. Remove adhesive stains with vinegar
If your grandchildren have been liberal with your book of stickers and have applied them to walls, doors, furniture or basically to any place where you do not want them, you will know that taking them off can leave a sticky mark. To address this, rub them several times with vinegar and let them soak for 15 minutes. Then return with a sponge and rub the mark.
58. Keep shoes shiny with hair spray
If you just gave your shoes a good shine and you want them to look flawless for as long as possible, give them some hair spray and you will see that they shine for much longer.
59. Use toothpaste to defog mirrors
If you get upset when, after a hot bath or shower, you can't see yourself in a fogged mirror, toothpaste might be the answer! Simply rub the mirror of your bathroom with toothpaste and wipe it with a clean dry cloth before showering and hey-presto: a foggy mirror easy to use.

60. Fill the nail holes in your wall with toothpaste
It seems crazy, but toothpaste is actually a very good replacement for Polyfilla, especially if you're in a hurry. Apply holes in the wall or ceiling with toothpaste and use food coloring in the paste before applying it if you need a wall color.
61. Use a lint roller to dust off
In addition to lifting the hair of pets in your clothes (why do they always love your most elegant outfit?), Lint rollers are a useful tool to remove dust from lampshades, mantles and even shelves. Just turn it over and voila!
62. Use liquid detergent to clean the blender
Dirty blender? These small tools have a serious use in winter, from making abundant soups to cranberry sauce or even mashed potatoes. All that work can make them look dirty, so for easy cleaning, spray some detergent and some warm water and start the blender as usual, be sure to open the lid first! Then just rinse.
63. Aggie Mackenzie Cleaning Council
How clean is the star of his house, Aggie Mackenzie, emphasizes the importance of keeping your iron in the best shape. To remove any excess lime in an old iron (which will block the steam holes) heat the iron, then unplug it and let it cool. Fill the reservoir with a solution of one part of clear vinegar in one part of water, leave it for an hour or so, then empty and rinse several times with clean water.
64. Polish leather with toothpaste
If you have a leather sofa, a jacket or shoes that are slightly worn, you can easily polish them with toothpaste. Just be sure to use paste without bleach or bleach to avoid stains. Rub it with a soft cloth and then rinse it with a wet one.
65. Use petroleum jelly to stop squeaky drawers
If you have a sticky closet door or a drawer that makes noise every time you open it, make things run smoothly again with a little petroleum jelly. It also works to loosen the hinges with ease.
66. Clean brushed stainless steel with baby oil.
Remove fingerprints, old food and stains from your pans and stainless steel appliances with just a drop of baby oil, rub them on a square of paper towels. However, it is worth noting that this only works for brushed stainless steel.
67. Remove the gum from clothes using the freezer
If you have sat down to chew gum or have put it in your clothes, you will know what pain it is to remove it. But this is where your kitchen comes in! Put your clothes in the freezer for a few hours: frozen chewing gum is much easier to pick up or cut.
68. Get rid of the dirty ring around the neck of a shirt with shampoo
It is easy for sweat, oil and general dirt to stick to the collar of a shirt and ruin your most elegant outfits. If you refuse to give in the washing machine, do not dispose of it! Simply gently rub some of your normal shampoo, rub it a bit and then put it back in the washing machine.
69. Remove stains from the sofa with shaving foam.
If your sofa looks worse, use a little shaving foam on any stain, let it stand, then clean it to remove the shaving foam, and the stain!
70. Balls that block odors
Block unpleasant odors from drawers, shoes or bags by filling a coffee filter with baking soda and adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Secure it with an elastic band and place it anywhere you need to cool off!

71. Easy keyboard cleaning hack
Easily clean the small corners and cracks of your keyboard or other small electronic devices by placing the pointed lid of a tight ketchup bottle on the end of a vacuum cleaner. It will quickly remove any dust or crumbs.
72. Use a squeegee to clean the skin
If the vacuum does not remove unwanted hair from animals, try using a squeegee as an effective solution on the sofa, carpet or other delicate upholstery!
73. Clean your remote control
If you are concerned that your remote control collects dirt and bacteria from daily use, try cleaning it with a small amount of hand sanitizer and a paper towel. For greater effectiveness, use a cotton swab to get those hard-to-reach pieces between the buttons!

Bend Sinister by Vladimir Nabokov
He remembered other imbeciles he and she had studied, a study conducted with a kind of gloating enthusiastic disgust. Men who got drunk on beer in sloppy bars, the process of thought satisfactorily replaced by swine-toned radio music. Murderers. The respect a business magnate evokes in his home town. Literary critics praising the books of their friends or partisans. Flaubertian farceurs. Fraternities, mystic orders. People who are amused by trained animals. The members of reading clubs. All those who are because they do not think, thus refuting Cartesianism. The thrifty peasant. The booming politician. Her relatives—her dreadful humorless family. (p. 179)
***
As he bent over the child, Krug was held at arm’s length for a moment, both looking into each other’s faces: the child hurriedly trying hard to think up something to ask in order to gain time, the father frantically praying that one particular question would not be asked. How tender the skin looked in its bedtime glory, with a touch of the palest violet above the eyes and with that golden bloom on the forehead, below the thick ruffled fringe of golden brown hair. The perfection of nonhuman creatures—birds, young dogs, moths asleep, colts—and these little mammals. A combination of three tiny brown spots, birthmarks on the faintly flushed cheek near the nose recalled some combination he had seen, touched, taken in recently—what was it? The parapet.
He quickly kissed them, turned off the light and went out. Thank God, it has not been asked—he thought as he closed the door. But, as he gently released the handle, there it came, high-pitched, brightly remembered.
“Soon,” he replied. “As soon as the doctor tells her she can. Sleep. I beg you.”
At least a merciful door was between him and me. (pp. 190-91)
***
O my strange native town! Your narrow lanes where the Roman once passed dream in the night of other things than do the evanescent creatures that tread your stones. O you strange town! Your every stone holds as many old memories as there are motes of dust. Every one of your gray quiet stones has seen a witch’s long hair catch fire, a pale astronomer mobbed, a beggar kicked in the groin by another beggar—and the King’s horses struck sparks from you, and the dandies in brown and the poets in black repaired to the coffee houses while you dripped with slops to the merry echoes of gardyloo. Town of dreams, a changing dream, O you, stone changeling. The little shops all shuttered in the clean night, the gaunt walls, the niche shared by the homeless pigeon with a sculptured churchman, the rose window, the exuded gargoyle, the jester who slapped Christ—lifeless carvings and dim life mingling their feathers. . . . Not for the wheels of oil-maddened engines were your narrow and rough streets designed. . . . (pp. 199-200)
***
He was one of those persons whom one loves not because of some lustrous streak of talent (this retired businessman possessed none), but because every moment spent with them fits exactly the gauge of one’s life. There are friendships like circuses, waterfalls, libraries; there are others comparable to old dressing gowns. You found nothing especially attractive about Maximov’s mind if you took it apart: his ideas were conservative, his tastes undistinguished: but somehow or other these dull components formed a wonderfully comfortable and harmonious whole. No subtlety of thought tainted his honesty, he was as reliable as iron and oak, and when Krug mentioned once that the word “loyalty” phonetically and visually reminded him of a golden fork lying in the sun on a smooth spread of pale yellow silk, Maximov replied somewhat stiffly that to him loyalty was limited to its dictionary denotation. Commonsense with him was saved from smug vulgarity by a delicate emotional undercurrent, and the somewhat bare and birdless symmetry of his branching principles was ever so slightly disturbed by a moist wind blowing from regions which he naïvely thought did not exist. The misfortunes of others worried him more than did his own troubles, and had he been an old sea captain, he would have dutifully gone down with his ship rather than plump apologetically into the last lifeboat. (pp. 236-37)

Three chairs placed one behind the other. Same idea.
“The what?”
“The cowcatcher.”
A Chinese checker board resting against the legs of the first chair represented the cowcatcher. The last chair was the observation car.
“I see. And now the engine driver must go to bed.”
“Hurry up, daddy. Get on. The train is moving!”
“Look here, my darling——”
“Oh, please. Sit down just for a minute.”
“No, my darling—I told you.”
“But it’s just one minute. Oh, daddy! Mariette does not want to, you don’t want to. Nobody wants to travel with me on my supertrain.”
“Not now. It is really time to——”
To be going to bed, to be going to school,—bedtime, dinnertime, tubtime, never just “time”; time to get up, time to go out, time to go home, time to put out all the lights, time to die.
And what agony, thought Krug the thinker, to love so madly a little creature, formed in some mysterious fashion (even more mysterious to us than it had been to the very first thinkers in their pale olive groves) by the fusion of two mysteries, or rather two sets of a trillion of mysteries each; formed by a fusion which is, at the same time, a matter of choice and a matter of chance and a matter of pure enchantment; thus formed and then permitted to accumulate trillions of its own mysteries; the whole suffused with consciousness, which is the only real thing in the world and the greatest mystery of all. (p. 316)

Tent Friendly Cots And Other Things You Need For Camping
Tent Friendly Cots And Other Things You Need For Camping – Who wouldn’t love to have a 45′ motorhome to cruise around and see the united states, but that is not practical for lots of people. Camping is a great alternative. Heading out to camp along with your family and friends is often a customary summer activity for many if the weather gets nice. Whether the campsite is your base camp for nearby activities or possibly the main attraction or, here is a quick guide to you could make your decision. Upon entering the park the trail will probably be for traffic going both directions then the street turns right rendering it one of many ways traffic which winds from the park. With this road being paved celebrate for ideal bicycle riding. Keep your eyes open though, the street across the park might have some very good scenery, watch out for white tailed deer running from the canopy of trees, or otters crossing the roadway, see if you can spot the many types of birds that label this park their house. Felling energetic, try usually the one mile walking trail, I heard it had been great. The interior with the circle is where Festivals and Events are held. A must see event is when the park dates back over time when Indians occupied this land. An educational experience that can leave lasting memories for anyone that attends. Camping and Caravanning holidays might be a key leisure area to learn coming from a surge in interest from the family holiday market inside the UK. Historically, this happened throughout the 1920s and 1930s, whenever a healthy lifestyle was greatly sought – the same as the lifestyle trends we follow today. Also in the 1960s camping became the standard for entertainment family holidays, saving thrifty families and travellers money – soon campsites were more popular than boarding houses, that had been previously the normal holiday choice for the average family. Read Also – Rucksacks-A Companion During Camping Camping equipment that is certainly imperative to staying safe while out should not be overlooked, too. Protection tools and first-aid kits can occasionally mean the difference between life and death. In an outdoor setting, going without any means of assurance of safety is not simply foolhardy, it is usually guaranteed to visit negative implications. So, first-aid kits and tactical goggles, Special Ops knee pads, and Special Ops elbow pads will be very essential as they’ll slow up the risk for unpleasant events. Mil-com and Web-tex first-aid kits can be used to store health essentials. And Viper protective gears can supplement an individual’s ‘safety first’ requirement. Read Also – San Francisco Sightseeing's- a Visual Treat to Eyes enterdavao.com – Usually, my approach begins by identifying the very best campsite. My choice is prone to rely upon the objective of my trip. I’ll often be looking to spending some time in rural areas, but I do like to keep my options open. When reviewing potential campsites, I’ll take a look at the facilities to begin, as well as local amenities. I’m also keen to find out, for instance, if you will find pubs or restaurants nearby.

Roast Chicken Game Changer
This is a long one, but the end result is very worth it. Once you do it a few times it comes together quickly.
Spatchcocking. Fun word right? And it’s completely changed how I often make chicken. I never really liked regular roast chicken. Most of the skin wouldn’t get brown and crispy unless you rotated the bird halfway through cooking, which usually resulted in burns or messes or both. By the time the legs were done the breast was dry and tough no matter how I brined, coated or basted it. Bleh. But spatchcocking? Super easy, super fast, amazingly juicy delicious results and lots of leftovers. All of which makes it a winner in my book, especially if I can find whole chickens on sale.
First thing I do is prep my cooking area by gathering everything I’ll need between first touching the raw chicken and placing the prepared bird in the fridge to dry a bit. No touching anything with chickeny paws! Ew. Cross contamination is no one’s friend.
I gather a plastic cutting board that will fit in my fridge, paper towels, poultry shears, sharp knife, plastic bag for trash and two small bowls - I like little glass prep bowls, they make me feel fancy - one with plain kosher salt, about a tablespoon, and one with half kosher salt and half whatever seasoning I’d like to use, to total a little less than a tablespoon. Sometimes herb blends, sometimes garlic powder, sometimes just salt and pepper (don’t do that one half and half, more like 1/3 pepper 2/3 salt). I try to remember what I’m going to do with the leftovers and season accordingly. Herbs work great for chicken salad, garlic for shredded tacos or wraps etc.
First remove the bag of giblets - one day I’ll be brave enough to do something with these but for now I throw them out - and dry the bird all over, inside and out. Here’s where having a bag for trash is super useful so I don’t drip chickeny stuff everywhere. Once the bird is dry, flip it breast side down and cut out the backbone with the shears. I freeze the backbones and add them when I’m making broth. Now take a knife and make a notch in the cartilage under the breastbone, then grab each breast and open the chest cavity like a book. Now the bird will lie flat when you flip it over, but before you flip it sprinkle it liberally with your seasoned salt mix. Let that sit for a minute or two so it doesn’t all fall off when you flip the bird. Yeah, I had to say that at least once this post. What can I say, I like low brow humor.
Flip the bird over (heh) and wiggle your fingers under the skin of the breast and thighs. Work the seasoned salt under the skin, this way it doesn’t burn when you cook it. You kind of have to push it around, just get it as even as you can. Last step is sprinkling the plain salt all over the skin. Tuck the wing tips under. When you’re done it will look like this:
I usually put my cutting board into a sheet pan in case there are drips. Stash it in the fridge, uncovered, for anywhere from a half hour to three hours. You can certainly skip this step, but I’ve found it makes a difference in how crispy the skin gets when it’s cooked. Weekend birds get the full treatment, weekday birds skip it and are still delicious.
Preheat your oven to 400°. Cover your sheet pan with foil to make cleanup easier - yay for that! If you’d like to make veggies at the same time, grab them now, or at least the ones that take longer to cook. Potatoes, carrots. For this one I was using carrots and green beans, but green beans cook pretty fast, so I don’t add those till later. Throw your veg on your pan and toss with oil or ghee and salt. You can place the chicken directly on top of the veg, but I like to stir them at least once during cooking so I put the bird on a wire rack. Rub the skin (or use a brush) with more oil or ghee. If oil, use something that’s good with high heat, like avocado. I use ghee (yay Trader Joe’s) because it’s super yummy and makes the house smell amazing. After this step it looks like this:
In the oven it goes for 30 minutes. After that, add your quicker cooking veg, if using, and stir everything around before you put it back in the oven for another 30. Take the temp - thigh should be 175°. I like to broil it for a few minutes to brown the skin a little more, but be careful! It goes from perfect to burned fast.
Pull the chicken to rest for 10 minutes or so - try to not burn your hands pulling off the wings for a taste like we do - and put the veg back in the oven if you’d like them to brown a bit more. Then you’re done!
Om nom nom!
After dinner, strip the carcass of the rest of the meat and save the bones to make broth. Thrifty!

We continue with the little book I’m having fun writing during April’s NaNoWriMo challenge. Once again, for those who are just starting on this novelette, no editing energy has been expended so ignore the errors and enjoy the book.
Chapter 6
Super frugal and thrift. It Ain’t borin’
Everyone talks of frugality now. It’s interesting and inspiring for those trying to make big changes in their budget. If it’s a new thing to you it can be very fun to get on the thrift train and ride all the way to a lifestyle that will be so much easier and less stressful.
I don’t know what the future holds for any of us, I know that we are not as prepared as some of these amazing homesteaders I see on YouTube. We don’t raise animals for milk or meat or eggs. We just planted our orchard and will be waiting years before we have a basket of fruit or berries. My seeds haven’t sprouted…I may have started too late and I’m working with a new climate. However, we started and we dove into what we do know and understand.
The frugal and thrifty lifestyle has been ours for years and years with constant improvements each season and passing year. To me, it is a game and with this game we have seen our abundance increase and have doubled our properties. Things I never thought we could accomplish have been done. Yet we live on so little. The trick is simply this: have NO debt. Have vehicles paid off, take good care of them, try and have cars that last like Toyotas and get great gas mileage. Live on far less then you make. Have a small mortgage or rent. Practice every frugal trick you can learn from the wise ones that went before us (mostly grandmothers and great grandmothers).
Then there are all the details to living frugally.
We have already discussed growing a garden, cooking from scratch, stocking your pantry, but what about stocking your savings? What about saving all those pennies for a rainy day…or to move to a better location, buy land, start a business, travel, or one day work less?
Buy less. Have month after month of no spends. Make saving money and stretching that paycheck a game. Set goals and challenges each month. Each time you grocery shop. Each time you shop for anything. Free is a magic word and making it yourself is a craft.
When I need something, say some extra shelving in the pantry, I try and find it free on Craigslist. Even the side of the road. It takes waiting and foraging. If I can’t find it I may make some shelves with old boards and crates or buckets. I may find them cheap at last from Big Lots or a yard sale.
I try to use what I have. I decorate with what I have. We just moved into a 120 year old house. My furnishings looked perfect in the other little 1941 stucco bungalow for which I slowly found and selected pieces. They don’t really fit this old house that has seen two World Wars, the Spanish Flu, and the Depression. But we are here having our own bit of history with the COVID19 and a looming recession. I don’t dare spend a dime on furnishings, not even thrift store furnishings half off on the first Saturday of the month. I just keep rearranging what I have, throw a new piece of cloth on the couch, rearrange the paintings. It’s shabby chic, for sure. Do I really care? No, as long as we are warm and dry in the winter and cool and sheltered in the summer. I make things cozy with throws, rugs, candles, lush plants, and my beloved TV.
We aren’t going out anymore. Well, we can’t right now. We are sheltered in big time. If we even walk downtown a cop will pull over and ask what our mission is? We can walk in the woods…that is all we have left outside the house and yard. So, what a great time to start the practice of not going out. Perfect time for a no spend!
I cook delicious meals at home. We love good food. If I cook good food with flavor, variety, and throw in treats, baked goods, and snack plates, then we don’t long so much for restaurants.
I have an Italian stovetop espresso maker and handheld milk frother. I always have a big stash of good coffee, Cafe Bustelo, which is divine (literally the best coffee I’ve ever had) and cheap, grass fed milk and some sort of flavored creamer that I add just a smidge to the milk to get a fantastic creamy, sweet latte every morning. Do you thinking I miss the coffee shop? No, I am actually disappointed in the coffee cocktails I pay for at the café. I make the best ever and I rise and shine each morning in great anticipation of my golden coffee beverage.
I can bake wheat bread and Amish white…trying to prepare mentally for sourdough. Then there are my crackers (a bit thick but great with cheese) and graham crackers (also a bit thick but they pull it off better than the crackers), and my blessed tortillas!
I love beans…and potatoes, so this is not a hard life. Fries, baked taters, then burritos, or combine the two and make chili fries or just a plate of fried onions, potatoes, and pintos. It sticks to the ribs.
So, we eat well but it doesn’t cost much because our base foods are simple, inexpensive foods. Sometimes we do have baked brie or something luxurious now and then but it is usually a sale I’ve discovered at Grocery Outlet.
And my dear Grocery Outlet. I get organics and good hair dyes, make up, luxurious lotions, and frozen pizzas now and then.
Then there are the things I do to save and reduce spending. I use cloth everything; menstrual pads, stovetop coffee pots that don’t need filters, cloth napkins, and towels, washable dishcloths, washable mop cloths. I clean out my vacuum bag over and over making a disposable bag last a year. I water down dish soap, shampoo, laundry soap to make it stretch.
I use a Berkey water filter and we have the cleanest water, never buy bottled water.
I’ve graced the movie theater a handful of times since being married and having babies. Now it’s sort of out of the question. I did spend a little cash on a Roku TV for my bedroom. Cost $118 and is the greatest joy of my evenings…No cable bill, not even a Netflix payment. Free movies and TV and music galore for the whole family.
I know this life isn’t for everyone. Many a man and, woman, don’t find spending their days cleaning and cooking fun. But this is my job and career. I take great joy and pride in making my home cozy and keeping it clean (for the most part). I enjoy cooking. Gardening is a great pleasure for my husband and I because you reap so much abundance from it and the savings is tremendous when you can grow tons of organic food for free. An organic nectarine can be $3.99 a lb. We grow our own now. We can gorge ourselves on organic nectarines and the only cost is the labor of picking it each morning filling a breakfast basket with this delicious fruit.
I love cleaning and decorating my house. It is my grown up dollhouse. When I was a child I loved my dollhouses. I had a nice victorian one and one made of boxes that I painted, glued hand made curtains and made rugs from scraps of old towels, furniture made from egg cartons and various cans and little food containers. I think I loved my box house more than the victorian.
Today I have my old grown up dollhouse that we live in and I rearrange the furniture and decorate all the time while I have my music or an old movie playing in the background. I put on a pot of coffee and go about tidying my house, giving thanks that I have a roof over my families’ heads. We have soft beds and all the luxuries such as TV, washer, and dryer. If you have had to use the laundromatt in the past or present you know what a luxury this alone can be. To have a full kitchen with working stove, to have a bathroom with a tub. To have a pantry! I never had a real pantry before…and I probably don’t have an official one now but I had so much room in my laundry room that with the addition of a fridge and shelving it was quickly transformed to just such a room.
We have a quarter acre to garden like mad. Gardening is a craft, maybe even an art form. We can decide to have orchards, kitchen gardens, bees, chickens, rabbits, goats. We could raise almost all our food except flour, rice, and coffee. We could trade with our homegrown groceries.
Each day I can choose to greet the day with gratitude and delight in that we have a home and land that we can build and create for as long as we choose. I can turn my duties into rituals and ceremonies. I light candles when I wash dishes and spend that time in quiet to rest my mind. The burning of incense when I vacuum and dust to change the air. A good movie while folding the laundry, afternoon tea and biscuits with the boys, a book in the evening, a walk on forest trails anytime we like. People plan trips and drive long distances to walk forest trails on vacations. We take nothing for granted.
To drive here and there, shop at the malls, go out to eat, these things can be fun but they are also a waste of money and precious life. Going out should be a once in a while treat, not a daily or weekly habit. Driving should be reserved to a day of errands and appointments. Groceries only need to be purchased twice monthly and maybe not that often. There is too much wasting of gas and time because everyone is used to being busy. They fill up their days running about.
The only way to save money and grow your life is to nestle into the home and focus your energies there. Those of us that stay home have orchards and gardens, we have homes that are cozy and inviting, we have pots of coffee or tea on the stove, we have hot meals at dinner time. It cost very little to keep a nice home, to cook homemade meals, to sit in your yard and enjoy the birds and bees and flowers, to cuddle your children while watching Moana for the tenth time…or in my case Godzilla.
Find your entertainments, joys, and fulfillment at home. Grow your wealth and use it for good and a piece of mind. My greatest fun right now is planting things…vegetables, fruit, flowers. I can see how my huge, bare yard will look in a few years. My other is having my coffee and a chat on the phone with other friends and family that are sheltered in. People that are normally too busy have time to chat, to sip a hot drink and plan out a new yard. They are pondering more time for fun, rest and family.
Well, time for my chamomile and book. We’ll chat more later on this wonderful subject.
Make it Stretch…Chapter 6 Super Frugal and Thrift. We continue with the little book I'm having fun writing during April's NaNoWriMo challenge. Once again, for those who are just starting on this novelette, no editing energy has been expended so ignore the errors and enjoy the book.
