SAN
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Are you ready, beautiful?" - Says San entering the room, while you were still trying to fasten your dress without help from your boyfriend's hands, because whenever he did that, you closed one button while he opened three.
"I'm still stuck in this dress! Seonghwa didn't have a worse idea of partying than celebrating his birthday with a Stardew Valley theme, last year of Animal Crossing it was much easier for me to choose the outfit" - You said without looking at your boyfriend as you tried to look in the mirror and fit the buttons of the dress.
"But this dress is cute, and you look beautiful in it," San said, standing next to the mirror holding a cowboy hat, wearing a denim jacket over a brown vest, and jeans without a belt that let his underwear show when he moved.
"You who are…" - You started to say, while you were still struggling to close the 2 buttons that were missing, turning to look at your boyfriend, kind of begging him to close it for you.
"HOT" were the words that came out of your mouth as soon as you laid eyes on your boyfriend. Looking at San dressed like that automatically makes you all wet. How could he be beautiful with anything he wore?
San can't hide his smile, and covers his face that begins to turn red with his hat.
"What am I? I don't think I heard it right, you said a word, it was cat. No, it was a similar word, what was it again?" - He said already approaching you, throwing his hat on the floor and holding your waist, making you lean your back against the mirror.
"A hottie, wow you're very hot! Help me with that dress!" - Said you already crossing your hands on your boyfriend's neck and braiding your leg around his waist.
"Honey, there's no way I can close with you like that" - He said close to her ear, already rubbing his nose on her neck while giving kisses towards her chest.
"Whoever says I want closes. We're going to be late because I need to test if cowboy San is good at the hard work before leaving" - You said as he was already leading you towards the bed.

WOOYOUNG
"Você me chamou de quê agora a pouco?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You didn't get to accompany your boyfriend in the Hala Hala concept, but you always told him that you would love to see Ateez come back with this concept, because the sight of your boyfriend in that dark outfit and that hat aroused your fantasies. And although Ateez did a western concept, her boyfriend wasn't much of a cowboy version.
"What time do you arrive, princess?" - Woo asked via text message. "In about 20 minutes. All this is about do you missing me?" - You answered. "If you don't show up in 5 minutes, I'll eat all those strawberries in the fridge" - He sent by voicemail. "Wooyoung, if you touch my strawberries, tonight there will be…" - You replied in a serious tone, but in a funny way (not so much after all he would be able to eat all your strawberries!) You know your boyfriend loves to play with you, but when it comes to food, you both have problems after all you are both addicted to cooking and eating. You get home, and you know that he is probably already in the room playing or watching some video, so that's where you leave already saying:
- "WooWoo, my little Woo, WOOYOUNGGGG, you scoundrel, if you're eating my strawberries, I'll…" But before you could finish the sentence, when you open the bedroom door, you find your boyfriend sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning with one arm on it and the other on his pants belt. He was all dark, with a black shirt full of accessories folded to the middle of his forearm leaving the veins of his arms showing, a pair of dress pants with a belt, boots, a dark hat and with makeup that left his eye marked and thus made the look he threw at you 50 times more powerful. The Hala Hala concept was back to your happiness, and wow how hot your boyfriend was in that look. At Hala Hala's time, Woo was still young, but now he was more mature, physically stronger, and more sensual.
"What are you going to do?" - He said looking at you, but the hat hid part of his face revealing only his naughty smile. "I'll be very quiet, and let you eat them" - You replied still not knowing what your boyfriend was going to do, although just by looking at him you already had several ideas. "What did you call me just now?" - He said looking at you in a way that if you could you would have been naked at the time. "HOT" - You said approaching him. "I thought you wanted some strawberries, but maybe I'll have something else for you to taste." "I want to prove everything, Woo," you said quickly, for you knew that was a sign that the night was going to be long. But as soon as you approached, he signaled for you to stop, which of course you obeyed. Then he asked you to lower them between their legs, lifted the hat with his finger and started to open the belt saying: "Well princess, our word today will be strawberry, but maybe I'll make you forget how to pronounce it today since your mouth will get very busy soon".

MINGI
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You loved the meetings with Mingi, you always agreed to do random things but together they always ended up yielding laughter and fun. This week you decided to go to one of these costume stores, Mingi spent the week talking about how much I was looking forward to going, mainly because in one of the couples chats you had you confided that I had fantasies of seeing him wearing certain clothes.
The store had a multitude of costumes, but you didn't imagine that seeing Mingi as a firefighter, batman, zorro and magician was going to be the highlight of your day. Mingi was loving choosing her costumes, and it must be said that seeing you as a cat woman and nurse makes your boyfriend a little awkward, giving a slight pink color to his face.
"Mingi, what do you think?" - You said seeing your boyfriend slightly excited seeing you in a leather outfit and whip in your hands. "I think we're going to need to buy this" - He said biting his lips and winking at you. That's when you found a cowboy costume and even though it wasn't as sensual an outfit as the one from Ateez's last comeback, you asked him to put it on. "But you've seen me as a cowboy! And by the way, you like it a lot, remember?" "That's why! I need to have a new cowboy registration of you" - you replied pushing him into the changing table.
Mingi got into the changing table, and after a while there he was, the cowboy Mingi had returned (and her lust for him too!) You didn't know if it was the leather pants, the fact that he had nothing under the shirt that he left slightly open underneath showing the hem of his underwear, or the fact that he came out with his hat in front of his face, but the sight of Mingi as a cowboy made you very excited. You didn't know if it was the leather pants, the fact that he had nothing under the shirt that he left slightly open underneath showing the hem of his underwear, or the fact that he came out with his hat in front of his face, but the sight of Mingi as a cowboy made you very excited.
"Are you happy? Was that what you wanted?" - He said looking at you already knowing the answer. "Not yet, after all we haven't come home yet to take a closer look at this look". - You replied, holding him by the shirt to get closer to you so you could kiss. "Of all, are you going to buy me the cowboy one? Really??" - He said whispering in her ear. "The choice is yours! The catwoman is only going home with the cowboy Mingi today" - You replied squeezing your boyfriend's ass while giving him another kiss.
The girl from the store thought it was very funny that he said he was going to leave there dressed as a cowboy because he had an appointment. Commitment that I already start as soon as you get in the car and your hand snakes through his leather pants until it gets where you wanted. "You can't wait until we get home" - He said already completely excited just by the heat of the emotion of the moment. "I actually want to ride you now, but someone needs to drive. But you can still drive while I take care of you there, how about it?" - You said laughing seeing the cowboy Mingi nodding and leaning against the car seat smiling and giving a slight growl, as he started the engine.

"Amor, você não me respondeu?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
After your father invited Jongho to his 60th birthday, and even asked him to sing, you've never seen your boyfriend so nervous. He didn't want to disappoint his father-in-law, and even more so you (which he would never do) on such an important day, so you've spent the last few weeks doing 500 things to try to reassure your boyfriend.
This week you decided to choose what outfit he would wear, and as it would be a special occasion, and as his father was an important figure, the look needed to be more elegant than usual. After many combinations, you arrived at a dark look, with a dark shirt and pants, a dark blazer on top, a leather shoulder accessory to give a more youthful touch to the look and a hat after all he needed to stand out too he was going to sing.
Everything was normal until Jongho decided to try the look, but as soon as his boyfriend came out of the bathroom all dressed, his heart started beating faster, even missing a few beats.
"Wasn't it very strange? I'm almost looking like Hala Hala conception, but honestly I don't want to wear a suit or they'll think your father is actually my father" - He said, walking towards her still buttoning his blazer and arranging the accessories he had decided to put on. "DON'T YOU DARE TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THIS LOOK" - You yelled scaring your boyfriend by the height of your voice when you spoke. "Okay" - Jongho said finally looking at you and laughing at your expression. "What's wrong, love? Are you okay??" - He asked. "No," you answered. "Why?" - He asked, realizing that there was something strange by the way you were looking at him. "Because you look very hot in this outfit" - You said looking at your boyfriend as if he were a tasty dish that you would love to try.
Jongho can't hold back his spontaneous laughter when he hears you say that to him, but soon after his expression becomes more serious and you knew that look well. "Am I hot?" - He said going towards her already opening the blazer. "Tell me how hot I am just so I know how wet you are now" - He commented while he had already opened his blouse and started to open his pants. "Quite wet" - You said smiling already going towards him to help him with his pants. "That's bad, because on the day you'll have to control yourself so you don't grab me right away" - He said pulling you close and helping you jump on his lap. "Then show me what you would do to me in front of everyone" - You said very boldly seeing Jongho's mischievous face, while he was already grabbing your hair with one hand and turning your head back to bite your neck while carrying you to bed.

♡ Hello guys, I hope you like it. If you have suggestions for new posts, I totally accept. Fun fact: It took me a long time to create this text by wooyoung because I couldn't find photos of him or Jongho with a cowboy hat. Then this week Wooyoung posted a photo in the car with a cowboy hat 🤡.

I'm with you. Honestly I've just been feeling low on Stardom atm for a multitude of reasons.
The injuries are the main thing - so. many. injuries. My gosh. I've waxed lyrical about their ridiculous touring schedule and how it's just not healthy for them, and now people are paying the price, whether they're out for short stints as a precaution (good for them for doing that instead of working through) or long stints because of something more serious. Who knows when Utami and Poi will be back. There's talk of Tam having to give back her belt. And Saya, well that was a freak accident during the match, unfortunately unavoidable, and I'm just glad Utami talked her out of retirement.
Because of so many key players being out of action, stories are half baked or dropped, and key matches had to be cut. Again, this is NO fault of the performers, and I wish them the chance to get better soon. I'm calling out management for overworking them.
We missed out on Mayu/Kid in the 5 Star and Giulia/Utami in the 5 Star, two matches I'm gutted they had to cut. AZM didn't even get to face Kid for her ten year anniversary match. Heck, they didn't even book Giulia/Kid 3 this 5 Star which is an open goal they missed.
Then Mariah left, and GOSH will she be missed. Best foreign asset Stardom's had since Thekla joined. Okay, so she's one of the ONLY foreign assets since Thekla joined... but damnit, she was SO. GOOD. She GOT Stardom, she fitted right in.
And now we're stuck with Megan Bayne, and oof... just. She is a hindrance to the roster. Being a character that is supposed to be tall, scary and dominant may be great for you, but it sucks for everyone you go against. It makes them look weak. Final boss Syuri had to act scared and be incapable of getting in much offence. Megan got a title match with Tam as her debut match. Everyone in that locker room is damn selfless the way they sell for Megan, hot damn. And now I hear she's won the Goddess League with Maika which...
Whoever negotiated Megan's contract and terms needs a fucking raise. Seriously.
Look, I'm happy for Maika. Does it suck that she didn't get this victory with Himeka? Yes, completely! But I'm happy Maika got A Thing and they've been working on Maika's character a lot since Himeka left, but the sticking point for me is I don't think they would have considered her for that victory if Megan wasn't involved. And Megan is one note. She's a limited performer. She's tall, and that's her ENTIRE thing. Wanna know who else was tall? Giant Gonzalez.
And then there's The Rumours which I try not to let keep me up at night but I can't help it. The talk of Giulia heading to the West when her contract expires next year. And considering how she's been publicly talking out against management (that shit show with the show times changing just being one recent thing) leads me to believe there's a LOT worse that is left unsaid in the public forum. If she's becoming disillusioned with management jumping ship only makes sense. She's a hot property, ranked No. 2 for the PWI list. And if she jumps, who's next? What would happen to DDM?
Then there's the retirement talk. And again, this isn't even just rumours, this is nothing more than a dark cloud looming overhead, but Mayu's mentioned multiple times she kinda wanted out around 30 to start a family (which good for her, let the woman rest, but damn she will be missed). And then Tam, who is pretty old in joshi terms, out with a really bad knee at the moment, and has been open in saying she's had neck issues for a long while. If Stardom loses them, that's two giant holes to be filled. And if Giulia dips, that's three key players, three faction leaders, just gone.
And yeah, it's rumours. One shouldn't dwell on rumours. But man, there's a lot of shit going down in Stardom and I'm a pessimistic and anxious person by nature, I can't help but look at the grey skies and not the silver lining.
TL;DR: That Oedo Tai/QQ match fucking ruled. And through terrible booking and terrible misfortune, it's been all downhill from there.
I'm struggling to get excited for/invested in what's going on in the day-to-day shows because everything feels so fragile and hollow at the moment. Management really needs to step tf up and re-evaluate their shit. I hope that everyone recovers completely and takes as much time as they need to get back to 100%. When they come back, I hope management gives them (and us) something to get excited for.
For so long I felt like Stardom is good because even when the booking sucks, and the booking sucks everywhere sometimes, everyone else is still doing other things that are interesting and good and fun. But jesus fucking christ, the booking has ran straight off a cliff and instead of doing fun other stuff everybody's just fucking injured. Never seen a company suffer from success like this before, just, holy absolute shit. Worst part is I'm increasingly getting the sense the management issues have been around for a while, they're just getting so bad they can't hide them any more. Second biggest promotion in Japan, unbelievably incredible roster, and damn near the entire fucking office deserves to be replaced, I guess. The merch girl and like 1 of the photographers can stay.

Disguise
( Kokichi Ouma x Reader )
You were in awe. Everyone... Everyone you knew was being found gone... Why? What was happening? Three... Three guys you were interested in, and they had all been found dead. Were you cursed? Was that why this was happening to you?
It had started with a boy called Kaito. He was sweet and always looked after you. Although you hadn't known him for very long, it almost felt as though you had known him your whole life. You protected him from haters, and in turn, he protected you from all the creeps and catcallers that littered the filthy streets of the country.
You had genuinely fallen for Kaito. He was so sweet, and it was very clear he had a thing for you, too. The way he always jumped to your defense... The way he would blush if you asked him questions... You loved it so much!
But then... tragedy struck. You were informed that Kaito had been missing for three days, and the police had yet to locate him. You opted to stay alert and optimistic. But to your dismay and horror, on your walk back home from school one day... you witnessed a sight you wish you could forget even to this day.
You saw your crush, completely dismembered inside a shallow grave dug in a low ditch. His top half had been completely severed from his bottom half. Everything was present, save for his purple jacket with the starry patterns on the inside, which was missing. Whoever had killed your best friend had taken his most prized article of clothing...?
Of course, the police ruled his death a murder, and did an investigation. Ultimately, you were disappointed to hear that they had found no conclusive evidence, and the case went cold. Your crush's killer would never be brought to justice. He would just be another name in a file.
Obviously, there was talk of a crime going on from the school. Some suspected even you could be the killer, since he was so close with you. Those rumors hurt you a lot. You loved Kaito too much to do this to him. Whoever did this was inadvertently hurting you, too, by ostracizing you from your peers, who now looked at you as a potentially dangerous psychopathic killer.
Then... There was Ryoma Hoshi. A guy who always seemed depressed, and like he didn't believe in love. That was, until you came along. He helped you recover from your grief of Kaito, and in turn, he found that it helped him cope with his own loss. Having no one to turn to, you both relied on each other with your lives, becoming best friends rather quickly over your shared pain.
Over time, you grew feelings for Ryoma, as well. You didn't consider him a rebound, though, and you knew Kaito would've only wanted you to be happy, even if it was with another man. He was just that selfless of a person. And so, it was no surprise when Ryoma began reciprocating your feelings. On the morning you were going to go to his house and confess to him, however, you received a horrible phone call.
Ryoma Hoshi, your best friend, had been found murdered with his face bashed in with a blunt, heavy object. Everything was present, save for his belt, which was missing. Yet again, no fingerprints or conclusive evidence was left behind, and the case once again went cold. However, something did click this time. The murder was connected to that of Kaito's. Missing article of clothing... both killed in incredibly violent ways... both were best friends of yours... Yeah, the coincidences were too high to be overlooked. Believing you could have a stalker, police assigned an armed guard to watch over you for six weeks. After those six weeks were up, you were finally left alone and your grieving process had completed.
The rumors spread faster this time. Your first best friend is killed brutally, and then your second? Yeah, you were definitely under a higher suspicion than before. People looked at you like... like you'd done it. Even on the streets, people gave you nasty looks and glares. In their eyes, you were guilty. Guilty unless you could find a real killer. By this point, you had essentially accepted that you would be an outcast until you graduated.
Then there was another guy. Shuichi Saihara came into your life and showed you happiness yet again. For the first time since Ryoma's death, you felt sunshine again. As if you were never sad. And yet again, you knew your past crushes would only desire your happiness, even if it was with someone else. So you took the initiative and began a friendship with the shy Shuichi Saihara.
It didn't take long for you to catch feelings for him at all. How could it? He was sweet, gentle, personable... Anyone who was remotely interested in men could've fallen for him. And you noticed that he liked you, too! He was really rather obvious!
The way his ahoge curled into a heart in your presence... The way he hid his blushing face in his hat every time you got too close to him... Oh yeah, he loved you, alright. And you loved him! That much was obvious! You decided you couldn't wait any longer one day, and headed to the rooftop where Shuichi typically spent his lunchtime to confess to him.
But... to your horror... You saw your loving, gentle crush completely brutalized. Blood was everywhere and a pair of scissors were still lodged in his chest. You immediately called the police and wept over Shuichi's corpse, careful not to damage evidence. When the police arrived, the scissors were found to belong to Angie Yonaga, your classmate, and she was convicted of all three murders and imprisoned.
But... something about that didn't feel right. Angie was a happy-go-lucky girl. She never picked fights and liked almost everyone. So... why? It just didn't make any sense. To you or to most of your classmates. And Angie swore up and down that she didn't do it. To your dismay, she was given the death penalty, anyway, and was executed by hanging weeks later.
To you, it meant you could never have friends. Then... somebody put a note in your locker. You opened it that day, and saw the note. It was written in childlike handwriting, but you read it, anyway.
"Dear S/O,
Meet me at Shinkushu Temple later today, okay? Four o'clock! I have something reeeeeally important to tell you, My Beloved S/O-Chan!
XOXO,
Your Secret Admirer~ ♡"
At first, you were only going to go to reject this person. You didn't want anyone else to get hurt because of you. But... when you arrived... You stumbled upon a sickening sight.
Standing there, in light of the windows, was your classmate, Kokichi Ouma. He was wearing a familiar starry jacket, a black belt, and a hat, all of which you recognized as your loved ones' belongings. It clicked. But he spoke first.
"Ah, S/O-Chan!" Kokichi chirped happily, rushing up to you and trying not to flail his sleeve. "Thank goodness you're here! I missed you, my wonderful spouse!"
Spouse?! What?! This guy was completely insane! He had murdered the people you loved because he thought you were married?! That was fucking sick!
Unknowingly, you began to cry. You couldn't force words out of your throat. Tears slipped down your face, unable to find any outlet for the rage and pain you were feeling from this realization. All this time... the killer had been hiding in plain sight! And people had blamed you for the murders!
Kokichi sat one seat away from you in every class, he was at the lunch table next to yours, you were in the same club! You cursed yourself for being so oblivious. If only you'd noticed sooner! The way he looked at you, the way he looked at your crushes! Maybe... Maybe they'd all still be alive. They had such bright futures ahead of them, and now... gone. As if they never even existed.
"Hm?" Kokichi cocked his head. As if he didn't understand why you were so upset over this revelation. "Why aren't you happy? I look exactly like your lovers! Kiss me, hug me, love me, me, me! Not those other manwhores! I'm the one who's perfect for you, silly S/O-Chan!"
"You're not!" you screamed furiously, finally allowing the words you wanted to say to tear clean through the air. You could've heard a pin drop after that. It was quiet. And then... Kokichi began to laugh. Maniacally. Then he slowly advanced on you with a syringe, and you backed away against the wall. "G-Get away from me...!"
"Don't you get it, S/O...?" he muttered lowly to you in an eerie tone of voice. He quickly pounced on you, holding the needle of the syringe up to your neck. "These presents present you with an unbeatable man... Don't you love it? Aren't I so perfect for you?!"
Before you could answer, you felt the sharp needle pierce your neck. It was hard to think... And to focus... And then you lost consciousness. Kokichi smirked at your unconscious body as he loaded you into a music instrument trunk, and dragged you home.
He couldn't believe you had fallen for his disguise.

Killjoys rewatch: 1x01
I rewatched the Killjoys pilot with @isagrimorie! Main takeaways: - This is a pilot very much in the vein of Leverage's writing strengths. We get the crew together, but we also get to see a regular mission with the crew together, so it's an origin and procedural pilot. Also, Lovretta does great at the John Rogers school of writing, where the exposition and world-building is mostly wrapped up in conversations that are also doing character/relationship work. It's really good stuff. - In addition, the characters' roles are vividly defined, and are tied to their personalities. Johnny is introduced as a thief and a talker, and attempts negotiation later in the episode, as well. His Level 3 rank literally prevents him from going to killing as a first resort. D'avin is shown to be much less flexible in a social sense, but can adapt tactically to threats in a creative and effective way, as per his military background. D'utch's role in the team isn't elaborated on as much, but we are shown how she has extremely specific field knowledge as per her assassin background. She can navigate social situations easily, but only if she knows the system she's working in, and we're shown that she doesn't have that much life experience, in some ways, so she has to be rebuked by Bellus and Turin. - I don't know if it was a reaction to LG stresses, or if Lovretta just has more of an affinity for non-fantasy (she also has Mutant X writing credits under her belt!), but this episode basically completes the world-building for everything non-Hullen for this show. Westerley, Old Town, the Badlands, Leith, Qresh, The Company, the Qreshi families, the Scarbacks, the RAC, all of that is introduced in this pilot. The only non-Hullen things that are introduced later are hackmods/The Factory, various Leith sub-cultures, and random space stations. It's impressive just how consistent the world is. - The weakest parts of the episode are all about smug edgy D'avin, hands down. While we do see flashes of D'avin wanting to be the responsible brother again, as well as his tactical competence in the field, it's all interspersed with him being boring in his brooding and attempting to be a loner. Dark Matter was Killjoys' sister show, and smug edgy D'avin was basically what sunk Dark Matter's first season, as well, with One and Three being smug edgy dudes all over the place. It's not a case of needing D'avin to be more flawed to make a character arc happen, either, because you can compare to the pilot outings of similar characters in PoI and Leverage. With Eliot, his grumpiness was limited to the field, and framed in a comedic context, while his antagonism was about worrying over Nate's mental instability. With Reese, we first saw him beat up punks in the subway, and then saw his emotional anguish over not being able to save a woman in peril. We don't see the suave agent in a suit until he's already joined the team, and we know why he needs to join the team. To be clear, I kind of like Dutch-D'avin as a rocky relationship that had to fight tooth-and-nail for every inch of connection, but Dutch-D'avin as a edgy flirty UST couple? BLEH. The actors couldn't sell it. - Speaking of which, lol seeing the difference in these actors. Most everyone is speaking in a higher pitch, even Thom. As they settle into these characters and the show, they'll find more theatrical and deeper voices. Plus, Hannah will eventually leave higher pitched stuff to Aneela. - Aaron and Rob are the main Canada Genre regulars, though the actor for Corren has also been around the Canada Genre block. Luke is more of a NYC actor, and Hannah is BBC, of course. But otherwise, most of the other actors haven't done much American mainstream stuff. (The director Chris Grismer has quite the TV resume. He's done a good amount of pretty-people shows, both genre and not.)

Bruno Mars comes home this week, but the pop music megastar’s welcome came five months ago, when his first two announced shows each sold out in a couple of hours. A third was added and sold out just as quickly, and now the moment his fans waited months for is finally here.
For the fourth time, the Roosevelt grad born here as Peter Hernandez is back, bringing his mega-successful 24K Magic World Tour to Honolulu for a little homestand.
This visit is his biggest yet, befitting of his ever-growing profile, as he revives Aloha Stadium as a viable concert facility with a venue-record three sold-out shows, capping a 213-concert tour that spanned six continents, 38 countries and nearly two years.
About 110,000 fans will attend the three shows, reinforcing the pop-music superstar’s description of his home state in a 2011 web documentary.
“They got love, man,” Mars said then. “Hawaii … this place is the best.”
Hawaii earns the nickname “The Aloha State” in many ways. From the lei we give out on special occasions to the way we always make sure our potlucks have too much food rather than too little. From the aloha shirts many businessmen favor over three-piece suits to the way we welcome guests — both into our state and into our homes.
But some of our greatest aloha is expressed in the way we support our own.
24K MAGIC WORLD TOUR >> Where: Aloha Stadium >> When: 7 p.m., Nov. 8, 10 and 11 (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) >> Tickets: $49.50 and up, available at Ticketmaster.com >> Guest acts: Charlie Wilson (Nov. 8); The Green and Common Kings (Nov. 10 and 11) Every Little League team that makes it to the World Series — which only seems to happen every other year — gets the full weight of the state behind it. When Mililani’s Jasmine Trias and Maui’s Camile Velasco were “American Idol” finalists, the show became appointment television from Kalapana to Kekaha, and our telephone votes carried Trias to a third-place finish.
So when one of our own becomes perhaps the biggest pop star in the world? Well, it’s like we ourselves are along for the ride — singing along to every No. 1 song, gushing over every Super Bowl halftime show, celebrating every Grammy Award win.
And when that pop star comes home for a visit? We throw the biggest party we can.
The hoolaulea for Hawaii’s own Bruno Mars begins Thursday at Aloha Stadium. It lasts for three concerts across four nights, with more than 100,000 of his closest friends having already RSVP’d, “Hell yes.”
BRUNO BY THE NUMBERS >> 19: Top 40 singles >> 11 million: Albums sold >> 79 million: Singles sold >> 7: No. 1 singles as a performer >> 8: No. 1 singles as a songwriter >> 32: Weeks spent at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 >> 32: Countries where Mars has had a No. 1 single >> 11: Grammy Awards won >> 27: Grammy nominations >> 14.049 billion: Total YouTube views for Bruno Mars’ official music videos 24K MAGIC WORLD TOUR >> Miles traveled: 113,201 >> Days: 594 >> Shows: 213 >> Continents: 6 >> Countries: 38 >> States: 29 >> Cities: 123 >> Stops: 141
Take away something as simple as birthplace and Mars is still very much the kind of pop megastar Hawaii fans would love. Start with the fact that he’s half Filipino. So rare has it been for us to see Asians and Polynesians in the national limelight that we grab on for dear life when one — be it in music, movies or sports — rises to national or worldwide prominence, even if he’s not from Hawaii. A Steve Perry-less Journey would not sell out one concert here if it weren’t led by Arnel Pineda, a singer from the Philippines. In the world of sports, Ichiro Suzuki, Troy Polamalu and Jeremy Lin were local faves.
But the “half” in Mars’ ethnic makeup is as important as the “Filipino” to a state that has three times as many multiracial residents per capita as any other state, for we also pride ourselves on our multiculturalism. Sure, racial prejudice exists in Hawaii, but we’re still the state with the most ethnic variety, and Mars embodies that diversity — his father is most prominently Puerto Rican and Jewish and his late mother was Filipino, but he has flecks of other ethnicities laced in with those. For a state of “poi dogs,” one moving the most assuredly toward a true post-racial society, who better to identify with than a pop star who defies racial categorization?
And Mars is a big enough star that even if he wasn’t from Hawaii, the coming shows would be significant. That said, the fact that Mars is “one of us” certainly adds to the fervor surrounding his arrival on these shores this week. And let’s face it — he probably wouldn’t be coming here if he weren’t from here. Honolulu is on one of its greatest runs of concerts in many years, but while more and more stars are finding their way to our islands, the biggest are not visiting at their peak the way Mars is. We’re getting some great acts, but we’re not getting the Taylor Swifts, the Ed Sheerans, the Beyonces of contemporary pop music. Will that change? Mars’ three sellouts seem to have opened the door to more shows at the stadium, with the Eagles and Guns N’ Roses due in December, and there are rumblings that other stars could be on their way.
Whatever happens down the road, with Mars coming to town, Honolulu for once is included in a worldwide tour by an artist in the upper stratosphere. Mars’ 24K Magic Tour has sold well past 2 million tickets worldwide, with revenue surpassing $250 million. The album it was named after was the second-best seller of 2017. Overall, Mars has certified sales of more than 90 million records/downloads in the U.S. alone less than a decade after he put himself on the map with a smooth guest spot on rapper B.o.B.’s chart-topping “Nothin’ on You.”
All of which serves as a reminder of another reason Hawaii loves Bruno: He always remembers where he came from.

The pop superstar born in Honolulu as Peter Hernandez has brought his show to town for the tours following all three of his albums, with each visit growing on pace with his skyrocketing career — from one sold-out show at Blaisdell Arena to three there and now three at Aloha Stadium, a venue with about four times the capacity of the arena. For his hometown fans, it was a long wait through a tour that has gone on for almost two years, but in the end he did not forget about us.
Mars’ backstory is well-known, and it both adds to the Bruno Mars mythology and makes him that much more likable.
He started his career as a 4-year-old Elvis impersonator in Waikiki and entertained at hotel shows throughout his youth. During a “60 Minutes” profile in November 2016, he also recollected, with no negativity or sense of self-pity, how he spent part of his childhood homeless, living with his father and brother in an abandoned shack in Manoa Valley.
Mars has credited his humble beginnings for his work ethic and his start in Waikiki for his broad appeal.
“Because of my upbringing performing for tourists, I had to entertain everyone. Not just black people, not just white people, not just Asian people, not just Latin people. I had to perform for anybody that came to Hawaii,” Mars told Rolling Stone for a November 2016 cover story. (Mars had not granted the Star-Advertiser an interview at press time.)
That requirement to entertain all comers has also resulted in a command of various musical styles. His latest album, 2016’s “24K Magic,” is pretty much a straight-up tribute to old-school R&B and funk, but his prior two albums showed off his versatility as a singer and his dexterity at crossing genres, with forays into belted balladry (the soaring yet somber “When I Was Your Man”); post-punk reggae-rock (the Police-inspired “Locked Out of Heaven”); folksy, island-inflected pop whimsy (“The Lazy Song”); and even an amalgam of styles including Motown and surf rock (“Runaway Baby”).
Those songs and those sounds all come from Bruno. In an era in which so many pop stars lean on hitmakers such as producers Max Martin and Benny Blanco, Mars has had a hand in writing and producing every song he’s appeared on. He works with outside producers at times — most notably Mark Ronson, with whom he recorded the megahit “Uptown Funk” — but compared with his peers, such collaborations are minimal. More commonly, Mars and his production teams — previously The Smeezingtons and now Shampoo Press & Curl — work in the opposite direction, shepherding hits for such artists as Adele (“All I Ask”) and CeeLo Green (“Forget You”), the former earning him one of his 11 Grammys.
SHOWMAN BRINGS THE MAGIC
Mars takes that same hands-on approach with his dancing, that extra something-something that takes him from star musician and singer to maybe the best showman currently working, a worthy successor to great entertainers such as James Brown and Michael Jackson.
Phil Tayag, one of the founding members of the renowned hip-hop dance crew the Jabbawockeez, works with Mars on many of his routines — peep him in the video for “Finesse,” among others — but won’t go so far as to call himself Mars’ choreographer.
“He’s not one of those artists that just wants somebody to prepare something for him,” Tayag told MTV.com in January. “We build everything together. He is very involved in all aspects of what he does when it comes to music production and everything. So it’s the same with dancing and creating and choreographing — super involved. … I was thinking in the beginning that he was just one of these artists that wants to be fed this choreography and all that, but he’s not. He’s super involved in everything, so we create together. He is a choreographer as well.”
The choreography is one part of translating powerfully sung songs to a live platform. Mars sees the brotherhood — in one case literal — he shares with his eight-piece band, the Hooligans, as an even more essential part.
“I think the best part of our show is that you can tell that we’re all friends up there,” Mars said in a documentary short posted to his YouTube page, “and you go in thinking, like, ‘Oh, OK, I’m gonna go see this guy sing these love songs,’ but then you kinda get a treat, you get … one of my best friends, (sideman and writing partner) Philip Lawrence, and me and him are just having the time of our life. You got my brother (Eric Hernandez) on drums, and I think that’s where the magic happens.”

L'Art et la mode, no. 28, vol. 15, 14 juillet 1894, Paris. Art & Chiffons. Bibliothèque nationale de France
Robe en lainage rose, boutonnant derrière. Garniture de guipure blanche.
Pink woolen dress, buttoned at the back. White guipure trim.
Robe en batiste ciel. Garniture de linon brodé. Guimpe plissée.
Sky cambric dress. Embroidered lawn trim. Pleated wimple.
Toilette en taffetas changeant. Garniture de bouillonés de mousseline de soie. Col, ceinture et nœuds de satin noir.
Changing taffeta ensemble. Garnished with chiffon bouillons. Black satin collar, belt and bows.
Ensemble in flowered lawn, needlepoint.
Ding ding! Ding ding!
Ding ding! Ding ding! The death knell has sounded, the Bois is deserted, the salons are closed. Paris may be pretty and charming, but you have to go, some to the sea, some to the forest, some to the mountains, and when the time of the trip is set, the trunk is quickly packed.
At the risk of coming across as harping, it must be said once again that white dominates.
The vicuña makes simple and elegant costumes, deprived of the slightest ornament; they are only garnished with large stitches and enormous mother-of-pearl buttons.
Blue serge seems to be the favorite shade of female cyclists, with white or red, or ecru mohair braid; the Escadre hat in canvas or blue serge.
The season is already looking very bright in Cabourg, and it seems that there are two and even three ensembles a day… in the morning, they are tailored suits in covercoat, with stitched bias at the bottom, similar little jacket, pink or lilac collar, cambric tie; in the afternoon, there are the white piqué dresses, with frilly front in crepe de chine, cropped bolero on superimposed vaporous lace, which is more dressy than the simple floating surah; but what dominates is the muslin dress with polka dots, enriched with ruffles hemmed with lace; next to this genre, the Pompadour style, with ecru lace; as for ribbon bows, we scatter them everywhere, at the top of the skirt, at the berthe at the neck, at the belt, ribbon has never been so fashionable.

Featured Post in Water Filter India dot com - Water Filter India
The closing phases of Civita Park are full and have opened to the general public, including roughly 4 acres of colourful playgrounds, recreation areas, decorative gardens and open lawns to the 14.three-acre park, which is the biggest park in Mission Valley.  (Per the San Diego County public well being order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, playground tools is closed to be used and the park is open for passive use solely.)
Highlights embody:
·      Two playgrounds, one for kids 2-5 and the opposite for youths 5-12. In addition to conventional playground tools, the playgrounds embody rock-climbing partitions, big tree trunks set horizontally, rope bridges, swings and spinners;
·      A shaded picnic grove and household restrooms close to the playgrounds;
·      The Mining Relics Garden, which showcases preserved mining tools that was used when the Civita Park web site was operated as a quarry, equivalent to a Caterpillar D8 bulldozer, giant augers and conveyer belts;
·      “Lookout Meadow,” an occasion pavilion with a landmark shade construction that mimics the design of the Civita amphitheater. The secluded area was designed for casual gatherings and group occasions, equivalent to weddings, birthday events or small concert events.  The house might be reserved via the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department;
·      The Frame, an Instagram-worthy, 10-foot-excessive construction positioned in Lookout Meadow.  Certain to grow to be a a lot-photographed park icon, The Frame honors Ken Grant, an avid photographer, whose imaginative and prescient was instrumental within the design of the park;
·      A quiet backyard zone the place guests can stroll via a scent backyard, succulent backyard and winged backyard – all with horticultural signage; and
·      A regulation-dimension bocce court docket adjoining to a supersize picnic desk and recreation tables.
Civita Park is a public-personal partnership of Sudberry Properties, grasp developer of Civita, the City of San Diego via the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Grant household, which owned the property and mined a quarry on the location for a lot of many years. The metropolis park was designed by Schmidt Design Group, developed by Sudberry Properties, and constructed by Hazard Construction Company. The improvement group additionally included Architects HGW, Rick Engineering and BrightView Landscapes LLC.
“We’re excited to replace a barren quarry with a beautiful park that will be enjoyed for many generations,” stated Marco Sessa, senior vp of Sudberry Properties. “It was important to the Grant family that Civita be designed around a central, unifying park,” he stated.  “We are proud to have implemented their vision in a way that benefits the entire region.”
In an announcement, the Grant household stated, “It is an honor to present again this land to our native San Diego.  We hope it supplies a welcome respite from the busy world that surrounds us all.”
The first phases of Civita Park have already earned main trade accolades.  In 2017, the Urban Land Institute’s San Diego/Tijuana District bestowed its “Healthy Public Places” award on Civita Park, honoring the park’s “creative development practices, inventive partnerships, imaginative problem-solving and visionary ideas.” Additional recognition has come from the American Society of Landscape Architects’ San Diego chapter and the San Diego Architectural Foundation, which gave the park an “Orchid.”
The preliminary phases of the park function Celebration Plaza, a big civic plaza that includes an outside amphitheater, an interactive 48-jet water function, a recreation area with a life-dimension chessboard, a row of dramatic wisteria-coated shade buildings over “outdoor living rooms,” rose gardens, a navy tribute and restrooms. It additionally contains open fields and courts, a group backyard, trails for strolling and working, and a canine park designed for giant and small canine.
A dramatic point of interest is the 60-foot-excessive Civita Falls, a seasonal waterfall that’s fed by runoff from neighborhoods in Civita and Serra Mesa.  The runoff is then directed down Civita Creek, a bioswale containing particular soil and crops that filter and clear the water.
“The experiences, amenities, forms and themes within the park are inspired by the rich history of Mission Valley and this specific site,” stated Glen Schmidt, FASLA, president of Schmidt Design Group, which designed the park. “The design of Civita Park grew out of the vision of the Grant and Sudberry families and the thoughtful feedback we received from the San Diego Parks and Recreation staff, Mission Valley Planning Group, the Serra Mesa Recreation Council and hundreds of area residents who participated in planning sessions.”
Schmidt added, “In addition to being a place to exercise and play, we have envisioned Civita Park as a place to connect with family and community, to be inspired by the natural world and to be charmed by the artistic surprises sprinkled throughout.”
Civita Park is embellished with 30 bronze animal figures created by Encinitas sculptor James Nelson and his departed spouse T.J. Dixon; The Frame, fabricated by San Diego sculptor Amos Robinson; mosaics by La Jolla artist Jane Wheeler, and a colossal 72-foot lengthy, 270-degree mural within the pedestrian tunnel beneath Via Alta that connects the principle portion of Civita Park to the canine park by Encinitas artist Kevin Anderson.
“It is the hope of our entire team that everyone who visits – from the very young to the very old – will be pleased and inspired by the vistas, aromas, experiences, and sounds in this enchanting park,” stated Sessa.
Planning continues on three further parks in Civita:  Creekside Park, Franklin Ridge Park and Phyllis Place Park.  When full, the 230-acre group of Civita will comprise 60 acres of public parks, open house and trails.

the rest of my week
Off the bat, for anyone reading this, the fact that I am starting to combine days is a very very good sign.  It means that there are not enough particularly dramatic events going on in a single day so I wrap up the themes.   So, yesterday was my first day actually volunteering at a project.  The first half of my day was spent at an Educare center called Ruthy’s.  An Educare center is basically a preschool/kindergarten for kids from ages 1-5.  We were supposed to leave at 8 but, naturally, we didn’t leave until 8:30.  We all piled into a small blue car and drove into the Township, Dunoon.  Driving through, it’s not necessarily scary during the day, but the level of poverty was just as breathtaking as expected. We pulled into a two-story concrete house and the other two volunteers and I hopped out of the van.   When we walked in the gate about 30 4-year olds were sitting on the rug clapping there hands and chanting “teacher teacher teacher!!!!!!!”.  They were all wearing red and white.  One of the boys was wearing all which with a huge red bowtie.  Me being me, I couldn't remember any of their names.  I loved the first hour.  Kids clung to my legs and wanted hugs and kisses.  At one point, I had a kid sitting on each of my legs while I'm sitting, a kid in each of my arms, and two little girls playing with my hair.  These kids LOVE straight hair.  It’s the highlight of their day I think.  Especially because I’m blonde, I think it reminds them of the disney princesses they all have on their small plastic backpacks.  It really made me think about how representation is so important.  When I was little, I really took for granted the fact that I could dress up like Cinderella and actually feel like I looked like her.  If you’re black, that’s not a feeling you really get on even close to something of the scale that I had it.  It sounds small, but when you are a 4 year-old girl, a Disney Princess is as close as you get to Jesus Christ himself. Inside the Educare center, there was one large room, maybe 20x15, and then two smaller rooms both around 12x10.  In the two small rooms were the little kids.  There were 15 kids in each room, one all under the age of 2, the other all under the age of 4.  In the big room there were about 30 kids who were all around 5 years-old.  A lot of the kids had marked on their skin, as if they had the measles or smallpox at a young age.  This bothered me, but was not entirely unexpected.  The thing that was the most upsetting was that several kids were almost entirely emotionally or socially shut down.   While 99% of the kids were thrilled to see the volunteers, a few were just unresponsive.  I would sit with them for 10 minutes and they wouldn't say a word to me.  It was very clear that they had suffered a traumatic experience to make them this way.  It was really worrying to see a child, barely four years old, already haunted by and trying to cope with an experience that has left them so scarred they refuse to even talk to their teachers or young volunteers.  They were shut-down to the point that the teachers would have to physically move their hands to get them to finger paint, or drag them to get them from one room to the next.  Otherwise, they would sit looking into their laps, silent and apparently numb to anything going on around them.  One girl, named Princess, was like this.  She was around 5, with long braids and a pretty, pink dress on.  I sat with her for over thirty minutes.  I kept asking if she was okay.  She would never respond.  About 20 minutes in she started opening up a bit, moving her hands or shaking her head when I asked her questions.  I gave her a hug and she started crying and holding onto my neck.  I don’t think any of the other teachers noticed.   By the end of the three hours I was entirely emotionally and physically exhausted.  Even though the kids were fun and happy, having so many kids in such a tight space gives no room for discipline.  The crazy ones are able to affect everyone because there’s no way to separate them.  So all it takes is one kid to go wild and you’ve lost the whole group for 10 minutes. I realized fairly quickly I do not have the stamina to be a pre-school teacher and I am much better at working with either babies or kids older than 10 than I am 3-5 year olds.  They’re just old enough to realize their independence, but too young to actually internalize the idea of authority or even general organization. It was like a very long, chaotic, mental exercise and I think, externally, I handled it well.  Internally, I needed two ice creams and a back massage to recover from the whole thing.   Unfortunately, that was not an option.  When I got back to the hostel, I made myself a grilled cheese and put on sunscreen, as I was due to teach 14 year olds how to swim in 90 minutes.  When it was time to go, I was feeling almost halfway recovered, which felt like better than I ever would have hoped.  I piled in the van with the kids who had just been picked up from school and we all headed down to the beach.  There were so many volunteers that we each had our own kid to work with.  I was paired up with a 13 year old girl named Brandy.  She was quiet, sweet, and goofy.  The first thing we did was teaching them how to float.  I have taken swim lessons all my life and realize that I have totally taken for granted how terrifying the ocean is if you don't know how to swim.  She was so insistent that I not take my hands off her while trying to help her float because she was afraid she would sink and drown, even though we were only in 3 feet of water.  Eventually, we got them all floating and then started working on flutter kicking and doggy paddling.  During the summer in Cape Town, the largest cause of death among children is drowning.  So far, the organization I am working with has trained 1,400 kids how to swim. That’s 1,400 potential drownings eliminated.   By the end of the day I was absolutely exhausted and starving.  For dinner we had a BBQ kind of thing called a potjie (pronounced poi-key), and one of the things we cooked was OSTRICH MEAT.  Not even kidding.  Apparently it’s very popular down here.  Needless to say, I did not eat that much. Thursday morning I was supposed to go back to the daycare but because I was so incredibly tired, I changed my activity to fundraising instead.  Nothing interesting really happened during the morning except a slow emotional and physical recovery on my part.  In the afternoon we took 12 eighth-grade boys out and played soccer.  They were so happy. I am not sure if I have ever seen somebody smile as big and genuinely as those kids while they were playing.  They just had a great time.  You could tell they really thought the female volunteers were cute.  It was adorable (I realize they would be appalled if they heard me refer to them as “adorable”).  They kept passing to me even though they know I don’t play at all.  Every single other person on the field was better than me because soccer is such a bigger deal in non-US countries and I was the only American volunteer (I have only met 2 other Americans out of the 90 other volunteers).  For dinner I had a meatball sub and was so hungry after that I walked down to the mini-mart and got an ice cream bar and some chocolate.   Friday was killer.  I went to a new daycare called Honeybee’s, which is notorious for being the craziest, poorest, and most disorganized out of all of the daycares.  There were 75 kids in a 3-room house.  It was chaos.  Each room was roughly divided by age group and somebody in each room was always crying.  The thing I noticed here that was more intense than the first daycare was the possessiveness of the kids.  I don’t have a reference to compare them to from the US, but these kids were so appalled by the idea of sharing.  It struck me so blatantly from the moment I started working with them.  You could not get them to share their toys ever.  I physically piled legos or cards or blocks in the middle of the table to get them to build something together or play together, and the second I moved my hands from the blocks, it was a scramble for who could sweep the most up into their arms before somebody else got them.  The desperation, even for toys, was breathtaking.  For snack, their parents are supposed to give them a piece of fruit in their bags.  Some had a normal piece of fruit, but others had genuinely rotten fruit given to them by their parents.  Rotten to the point where I felt horrible giving it out but the main teacher made me.  The respect they had for this particular teacher was amazing.  The second she left the room, all hell broke loose, but when she was there yelling at them, they were transfixed.   One of my co-volunteers, Linda (around 60 years old and from Canada), was telling me that she knows why the teacher commands respect: she beats them.  Linda told me about one time the woman took her belt off to adjust her sweater that was stuck underneath and, once she took it off and all of the kids saw, the entire room fell absolutely silent in fear.  That’s the kind of environment these kids go to school in. A lot of them have bumps on their faces that I can’t really tell where from but it’s clearly some kind of illness.  One boy in the youngest room had a face that was completely bloody.  The entire area around his mouth and chin had really really deep gashes and cuts on it and there was a pink paste that was spread on top of it that I assume was supposed to help with healing the wounds but it looked to me like it was just getting all over his shirt.  The best piece of news I have from the experience is that I figured out how to get them to all sit down and listen. First I yell “everybody put your hands up!!” and everyone does because they like following physical demands to get their energy out I think.  Then I ask them to do a little wiggle, then quickly put their hands down.  Then we repeat it until I am sure everyone is listening.  Also, when I read them books for story time, I read in a really low voice and asked them what colors things in the drawings were to keep them checked-in. Further, whenever they would shout out the answers, I would say I couldn't hear them unless they use an “inside-voice”.   Their favorite part of the day was when we took them outside to the small, sandy playpen across the street.  I chased a few of them around and whenever somebody hit somebody else, I would pick them up and hold them while they cried and cried, clinging to me and never wanting to let go.  It does not seem like these kids get a lot of hugs, so I try to give them out as much as I can without completely throwing off the lesson.  The thing that upset me most during our outdoor playtime was how quickly the kids would start making guns out of sticks and papers lying around and pretending to shoot each other and people passing by.  Their awareness of violence is breathtaking.   When I got back at 12:30pm, 4 hours later, I made myself a meatball sandwich (which was really exciting because I usually don't have access to meat or protein until dinner time) and then proceeded to pass out for 6 hours because my head was pounding so hard consciousness wasn't really an option.  So, anyways, I am still alive, starting to get to know people at the program, and settling in a bit.  I will start posting photos soon.  I am just too tired to even edit this piece so fancy media will be coming as soon as I start increasing my stamina for my daily program.
