“uhhhh.” he’s still got everything in his hands to walk out the door. his coat is tugged on, he’s thinking about his car -- and andie and tommy are... asking him about latkes? mixing stuff? or maybe just potatoes? he's not all too sure what he should be mixing. when buck thinks about it, in the few seconds that he affords himself to think on it, he realizes he's not sure what the steps in making latkes are.

he’s blinking with confusion that neither of the people he loves likes can see because he’s not exactly sure what they’re asking of him, but he knows that he should probably take off his coat before the sleeves are soaked in the inevitable moment when he reaches into the sink. “hold on-” the phone is switched to speaker and placed back on the counter he picked it up from, as he tries to tug off the layers, "what am i doing exactly? where are you guys? i thought you were already heading over to maddie's." | @fyrewalks

"buck," andie doesn't mean to nearly cut off her uncle, but if her words crowd close to the end of tommy's sentence then it's just with excitement. and an understanding that they need to hustle. tommy's not explaining it well. "do you have potatoes?" buck doesn't even know what he's making, yet. "and a grater." and eggs.

from the moment that andie first thought buck can help she hasn't stopped to think about much else—like exactly how much work she's throwing on his shoulders. "you know," at once she tries shoving both the phone and platter of cookies at tommy, before realizing that his hands are still full of wine. she has no solution to this, moving the stuff around looking for anywhere to set it down as she continues to talk. she balances her phone on top of the cookies, but that still leaves her with a platter of cookies. "maybe i should come over and help." | @entriprises

Something about Chimney being quietly devastated that the brother he always pictured planning his bachelor party with is gone. Meanwhile Buck is overcompensating while trying to prove he can be a good brother to the first big brother he's ever had a chance to know.

"not that long, i promise. probably no more than a minute or two-" he turns his head back forward after he bumps a shoulder one too many times. with an arm out, he gently parts the crowd of people, responders, public, residents, and the like that scatter the lines of vehicles. "sorry, 'scuse us!" he shifts sideways, parting a wider walk way for her to come through until they make it to the engine. it takes all of a minute once they're there for him to reach up and through the window pull out a clipboard. "here we are!" he offers a small smile, something he hopes will ease the annoyance she has for him. "it'll uh, just be," he turns the board between them as a gloved hand taps at a signature line and some boxes. "just this section, and then the back."

"Yeah. Sure." Katrina knows she really shouldn't be this annoyed with the guy - he is just doing his job, after all, she has her own annoying regulations and papers that need to be filled out in her own job, all that stupid stuff that no one likes but that has been decided necessary. He's not the guy in charge. He's just the guy in front of her, not letting her go right now. But that's not his fault. If only she had just fled the scene when she had the chance, skipped all this. "How long do these things usually take?" Not that she has anywhere especially pressing to be at the moment, but if she's going to be spending 20 minutes with a paper and pen, she'd rather know going into it.

There’s a couple a/b/o fics about Eddie “bitching” Buck, but where are the reverse fics??

You cannot tell me that Eddie “I’m a nester” Diaz doesn’t want it. Hello, giving up this tightly held control and this persona that he’s spent so many years trying to do “right” but never feeling like he’s got it fully figured out?? Depriving himself of things that would bring him joy bc they’re not “normal” or whatever for alphas? Literally he & Buck can have babies that look like them and Eddie can be a dad and we KNOW Eddie being a dad is like, hardwired into his bone marrow. He’d love it.

Also the whole Jealous Buck vs Possessive Eddie also fits in here, in some way, I think.

buck nods, trying to picture the two guys meeting -- and how romeo might react to it. he doesn't know the guy, or at least not enough to guess this, but if romeo's anything like buck, or andie for that matter, then there'd be a third awestruck fool in their lineup. "it's crazy what they do-- i mean," he's a little speechless trying to get through the words, "yeah we run into fires and tsunamis and earthquakes but they're... they're crazy. have you seen any of the videos?"

andie feels the way that it sounds like buck feels. like she's floating on air or like one of those cartoon characters floating after a good smelling pie. not that— not that that's at all what's happening here. they're talking about a real person and not a pie or a piece of meat or anything. he really does look that good in a hat though. "well he looks that good in a hat. and if romeo had seen him he would agree!" being in a relationship doesn't mean that she stops finding other people attractive. she was in love with romeo for years and it didn't change how she felt about other people too. one guy in a cowboy hat isn't ever going to be enough to rattle her relationship with rome.

I didn't like the dinner scene... Or the progression of Buck's relationship.

Let's talk about it!

I've been lurking and waiting to form my full opinion (away from my buddie mind) and I will compare the two.

I came in the fandom rather late and before season 7 aired. Buddie had been the consensus ship let's say.

As a fan and a writer I recently started doing in depth analysis for my favorite TV shows to challenge myself and learn the trade I'm eventually going to work with.

I'll start with my problem/observation with the hamsterwheel --> bucktommy relationship --> separation of Buddie --> differences between the relationship.

First the hamster wheel I truly believed that when he mentioned having to work hard and it being new and different I really expected something special.

Now as a Buddie before this happened I was like OMG its happening. All the way up until the last part of 7x04 (where i promptly blacked all the way out) and that Buck was going to work for Eddie.

In the case of the preview and marketing they did in fact put a beautiful buddie shaped blanket over the whole thing and pulled it away for a new ship.

Now it would make sense some fans would be mad. Most people have an otp. That doesn't change with anything.

Buddie was still very prominent with all the female love intrests so it became confusing to me with the response but I'll get back to that in a minute.

The kiss (which he didn't ask before and it was really sudden / can argue Buck was okay with it cause hot guy duh but still a lil mehh) was quick. It felt very hamster wheel like he's jumping into something new.

Then subsequently in the other episode called you don't know me aka the BUCK!! date where a closeted joke was made (funny in tv but not in real life).

Granted Buck could've handled it better but he literally brain melted. Your straight (?) friend catches you on your literal first date with a man in secluded past of town. Yeah I'm taking myself outside for a sec.

The Evan thing also applies. On screen we haven't gotten a denounc

ement of the name Buck and what it means. I don't know it feels like two separate lives if I think about it.

He's Evan with him but Buck with everyone else (this is very convoluted).

That name thing has been and will continue to be debated. 🤷🏾‍��️

The hamster wheel sped up expeditiously when he invited him to his sister's wedding. Right after Eddie stated he is rushing too fast.

(Which Buck also does due to ✨abandonment issues✨)

Then the bachelor party where he didn't dress up.

I know people made real life excuses but the things is I'm a canon more than a fanon person.

(yes buddie isn't canon hypocrisy ik but WAIT)

What I mean by that is that I take what characters say and do at face value. That information forms my opinions of them.

Unfortunately there's been about 7 years and all couple parallels with Buddie so my brain was like yep, that's canon.

When Tommy was being discussed at first (and now) I'm still saying as that he's a blank sheet that the fans who've wanted Buck to be in a loving reciprocal relationship so that's being projected on him.

So that equates to him being a let's say "out of character" personality in the online space.

I said in an episode analysis that Tommy's interested and not invested and I stand by that until the show proves other wise or writes their relationship on a deeper level.

Fanon Tommy's character would've worn a costume, hell they might've been the ones matching.

Because he's that dedicated and invested.

In canon, he didn't even come up with a simple enough reason and just brished it aside.

Now once again the you don't know me and writing wise it's significant that Buck's not acknowledged as Buck, and his lover isn't allowed to call him that. They're cooking something.

Idk what it is or if it's burning or not. But it's cooking regardless.

Deep conversations. Honesty with Eddie.

Tommy. Redirection and minimization. (and a smidgen of jealousy)

I also had some qualms about the sexualization of Buck's character or the minimization or common theme of Buck being used/useful.

They make it a poetic irony that the man who failed to be useful in saving/being savior baby then be used throughout his adult life.

Whether that be a substitute/donor for his older brother, a fantasy or story for some, or a quick fling/easy relationship the writers haven't fully gotten him out of the hamster wheel.

The writing of the relationship is failing it. Unless it should be like that.

For the rest of the topics I was talking about the bi buck episode and how much it meant to TV.

As we still know, Hollywood/American TV is a global thermometer let's say and tends to be discussed/acknowledged/distributed worldwide. As a result when certain things are done in the shows it can be a milestone.

I can admit I overlooked some things (as I am an avid hunter of media especially HAPPY! queer stories being told of POC and otherwise) so I can sometimes forget how impactful/important certain things are for the American/world audience to see.

Like henren, a black lesbian couple with a kid! Married! Both incredibly successful in their respective jobs.

Like that alone could be a TV show honestly.

That's why when Bi Buck happened I was happy. (I legitimately blacked out because I didn't see or hear the preview right after 🤣🤣 I was distressed when I came to)

But honestly I am still happy and proud that it happened.

I didn't get the significant of the extent of visibility of having a male (later in life is important!) come out or be acknowledged as bisexual.

Granted in cannon the word hasn't been uttered or expanded on but they head a rough 10 episodes so I'll give em some slack.

But as a viewer and a writer I see how important it is to have it happen and the significance of it through real life stories and anecdotes and for that I am happy for that party of the relationship. 🥺

I won't take that moment away from them. Was it perfect (including all the other stuff afterwards?) No.

But was it necessary and messy and awkward like real life? Absolutely yes and I love it.

This is peak TV I tell you. (I've never blacked out like that to TV before so that was a first🤣)

But on a real note I was excited (and neutral towards Buck and Tommy being together).

I still ride the Buddie ship all start for to the context clues (slutty dangerous barbell scene anyone??) that it may be confusion on his part or at least leaving the door partly open for Buddie.

(it really could be just gauging the audience reaction)

I won't really talk about the second half of Buddie sexual identity because that either deserves it own post and has to be expanded on.

(Eddie i beg. The women of the world DON'T need you right now. Be a beautiful centerpiece. Do not traumatize the women of la no more. Take care of your son. Don't go through treacherous roads. Take the journey elsewhere. I beg!!!)

But on a serious note I noticed the quick turn I would say on the characterization/head canon of Buck's love interest.

I find it interesting that for female counterparts there hasn't been such a response. (I have heard about Buck Taylor riders though)

(this is my inner thoughts. Very hot. 10/10. My soul was pleased. Couple? Awful. Friends? Brilliant. Taylor motives? Nah you can't be round me with all that sneaky stuff)

But her character was the most expanded on.

But with Tommy, most of what's stated about the relationship at the beginning was headcanon.

I think where the shows heading is to show the incompatibility between them.

Tommy's scenes so far have been casual, smooth and easy.

He doesn't mind a quick date. He doesn't want to dress up for the theme. He'll be there but it's not too important to fuss about it.

The deleted scene is avoidant (which may become a character trait about emotions) to deeper conversations. We see this reflected as well when they're at the dinner after Bobby's finally pulled through (and Buck lost his son😭😭 I'm not even on no shipper shit that's his baby😭😭) and he starts to be vulnerable.

I expected it to lean more towards a heartwarming or honest conversation but one again he shuts it down.

What I think they're going to do with his character/have been doing is show that he's avoidant to confrontation.

(i could argue that for his friend he might do more because the Eddie flying things still throws me for a loop in comparison to how they're portraying their relationship)

But I stick by the interested not invested point.

With the little screen time they've had to develop his character they've shown that it's not really endgame they're just incompatible. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Comparing the Buddie and Tommy relationship the investment/support becomes a bit evident.

Not matching with Tommy. Incompatible.

Matching with Eddie. Compatible.

Deep conversations. Honesty with Eddie.

Tommy. Redirection and minimization. (and a smidgen of jealousy)

Now you can argue (as a writer in gritting my teeth as I type this) if they do go down the route of his love "changed" me, it it's a possibility to write him becoming a better partner through love or sum.

As Buck is very emotional and he can get him to open up be more serious as he sees him taking it seriously.

As a buddie that killed me!!!!! but as a writer i had to speak up.

Anyways... If it goes that route I'll hate it a little. Hare it and like it seesaw kind of (look ik potential when i see it)

The hate part is that once again it'll be uaed/hamster wheel/i have to prove or gain your love or show that you appreciate me.

Like it cause who doesn't like a good you changed me by being yourself?

I'm a hater through and through. 😤

Tommy as a character I was neutral on at first. I'm still lukewarm about the relationship itself but the character is falling into the same old box all love interests get.

Not enough character but more than enough sex.

Regarding Buck's relationship they're always a give and take, Buck ending up being more of a giver (I'm not defending no white man for his mistakes though he do be doing some things side eye worthy).

But because the love interests are just that and not fleshed out characters, they end up not being able to stand on their own and be interesting enough outside of the one off appearances.

With the exception of Karen my love, my sweetness.

But most of Buck and Eddie's love interests can sometimes be reduced to props to move plot along/give character development.

(which as a writer i didn't hate as it's a multi lead drama series but..... If they want a long term partner to be introduced they can write it like Karen)

I can think of many scenarios and ways to actually make the character less off-putting to some.

Examples: more enthusiasm/effort actually being put in (or maybe that's where the statement Buck had to work for it applies? That Buck had to work for his love ??? I'm speculating now), being more straightforward, the jealously not being brought up like twice now.

Sirens are blasting with that one 🚨🚨

(The characters actions being vetoed off screen doesn't help either. It also applies to a lot of problematic things that sweep under the rug. Only the queer characters cheating? Violence against each other? Goading into drinks? Kissing/cheating? Manipulation?.... Eh it's drama but the cheating storylines and the characters it happens to makes me a lil 👀...)

All in all me and my homegirls not pleased.

I ain't been swayed anywhere and the way the wind in this writing ain't blowing nowhere.

There's a hoodie in the Diaz household. It's average really. Looks soft and well worn. Grey. One string is hanging much lower than the other. At first glance there's nothing odd about this.  Except there is. It's too big to be Chris' and Eddie doesn't like to wear hoodies. And yet, there it is, carefully slung across the back of an armchair, folded in half.

coming through the door, buck doesn’t expect what greets him. he’s a little surprised the lights are even on and tommy is so ready and standing by to receive him. there isn’t much surprise on his face though, in the back of his mind is the memory of his boyfriend asking as much and handing over the keys. he sinks against tommy, and trusts that they won’t topple despite the weight.

on his back, slung over one shoulder is the backpack tommy had brought earlier in the day. its contents are mostly untouched. he’d unzipped it, looked, specifically when someone had mentioned getting food or snacks from the vending machines. he’d at least opened the bag, ruffled through. he hoped tommy wouldn’t take any offense that he didn’t do more with the clothes or the lunch. buck just couldn’t find the energy. as tommy takes it, he mumbles as much of an apology. “the uh, sandwich is still in there. it’s probably not great anymore. i’m sure it was— i,” he reminds himself to breathe out. “yeah… they’re okay.” he knows for certain, being the last to leave. “they’re, uh, they’re keeping bobby for observation and to do more tests, but he’s,” there’s another exhale, just as heavy, the fear still lingering, “he’s gonna be okay.”

bag off, explanation given, face buried against his boyfriend’s neck, he doesn’t budge. “can i just say, something smells really good and it’s not just you. please tell me that’s food because i’m really not feeling up to cooking, and i’m starving.”

          TOMMY  HADN'T  STAYED  LONG  AT  THE  HOSPITAL,  there  wasn't  much  he  could  do  there  besides  offer  condolences  to  former  coworkers,  people  he  hoped  were  becoming  his  friends  and  check  in  Eddie  who  was  physically  there  but  mentally  somewhere  else.    He  had  seen  that  look  a  thousand  times  before.  but  were  they  close  enough  to  talk  about  it  ?  they  had  gone  to  a  few  fights,  hung  out  a  few  times,  but  had  they  really  talked  ?  Evan  had  it  covered.  Evan  seemed  to  know  exactly  the  right  thing  to  break  down  the  walls  that  guys  him  and  Eddie  spent  years  building  up.  

          It  was  Evan  who  Tommy  had  come  to  the  hospital  for.  He  had  a  backpack  with  fresh  set  clothes,  a  lunch,  and  some  snacks,  which  he'd  swap  for  the  one  he  brought  Evan  the  previous  day.  It  would  be  that  same  routine  for  as  long  as  it  needed  to  be.  

          Relief  had  filled  him  when  heard  that  Captain  Nash  had  woken  up  and  Evan  would  be  coming  home.  He  was  happy  that  his  Captain  was  healthy,  but  happier  that  his  boyfriend  was  going  to  sleep  in  an  actual  bed  with  less  to  worry  about.  The  smile  on  Tommy's  face  was  bigger  now  as  walked  through  Evan's  kitchen,  tonight  he  wouldn't  be  eating  alone  and  Evan  wouldn't  be  eating  leftovers.           A  warm  dinner  and  wine  were  ready  when  the  door  opened.  ❝ Welcome  home, ❞  Tommy  greeted  him  with  a  hug  and  a  kiss  on  the  cheek.  He  was  quick  to  pull  the  bag  off  his  boyfriend's  shoulders.  ❝ Everyone  doing  alright ? ❞  he  asked,  the  question  was  more  about  how  Evan  was  feeling.  Did  he  want  to  talk  about  it ?  The  details  of  Eddie's  mysterious  brownie  crisis  that  lead  to  his  parents  being  in  town  or  Captain  Nash's  heart  would  make  his  way  to  him  eventually.  What  mattered  to  him  was  Evan  and  if  he  needed  to  talk  about  it.

favorite things about the poster. The wildness that Tim is casting buck as the woman in love with the main character and knowing that there’s an alternate ending to the film after everything that happens where midge and Johnny share a drink together symbolizing she will always be there for him and there’s hope for their future together. Hitchcock filmed that scene and released it you can see it on YouTube.

so I got a few anons about this, all basically saying the same thing about Midge and the alternate ending, so I'm just gonna sum up my general thoughts here. And yes, it is absolutely insane that Buck is being put in Midge's place. Because Midge is undeniably in love with Scottie. And even though Scottie doesn't reciprocate during the events of the film, we do see that Midge is absolutely Scottie's safe place.

It's going to be interesting to see how Buck takes on this role. Because, of course, Buck and Eddie right now only see each other as friends, whereas both Scottie and Modge were aware of some lingering feelings from a previous relationship. But I do think we are going to see Buck as Eddie's safe place, and probably his link to reality as he lives in his delusion.

(That being said, Midge and Scottie do have a pretty big argument, and we know Eddie is going to be feeling lonely going into season 8. divorce era 2.0 everyone?)

Also something interesting to note on the alternate ending: the purpose of that scene. Whereas it was nice to see that Midge and Scottie made up, and that, again, Midge is always there for him, that is not the purpose of the scene. (I'm not saying this to be a debbie downer I just think it's interesting)

The whole reason that scene was filmed was due to censorship rules. At the time, according to these rules, you couldn't show someone getting away with murder, which Gavin Elster was shown to do. So the scene was filmed primarily for the radio aspect, which details the pursuit of Elster across Europe. Hitchcock managed to get them to allow not having the scene and ending with Judy's death.

So yeah. Obviously the idea about Midge being Scottie's safe place that was also explored in that scene still stands, but the scene was one Hitchcock really didn't want to include. Probably because it takes away from the dramatic ending more than anything else. And judging off of Ryan's comments about Eddie in season 8, I think it's possible we won't end on that kind of note in season 7.

evan can't help but tense somewhat, the slightest shift in body language as travis speaks. it's not the first time they've hung out like this - watching the slow crawl of the sun as it sinks below the horizon, the sky awash in deep blues and rich purples and a fiery, mesmerizing red - but it's the first time travis has ever offered up anything beyond polite, hollow small talk. and evan is usually content with this dynamic: sitting quietly next to him, a gap he's too-aware of between them, a drink in hand as evan fills the silence, rambling about something inconsequential, typically reciting facts learned in whatever book he's been reading. he's favoring travel guides lately, as he wonders where he'll go next - though evan keeps delaying the decision. it's far from the longest he's stuck around a singular place, and ranching is fun, but he misses the ocean - so he's not sure why he lingers.

maybe it's something to do with him. evan doesn't look directly at travis, opting instead for what he hopes is a casual side-eye as he takes a swig of his beer, downing it in a careful swallow before replying in an even voice, "yeah?" he's trying so very hard not to push. but evan feels the questions burning, as they've done for weeks, and the desire to better understand travis is overpowering, so he can't really stop himself from continuing, though he manages to aim for something neutral, something that isn't too invasive. "shitty parents?" and there's sympathy heavy in the question, because evan gets it. "in my experience, they have a way of making you feel... out of place."

he’s heard it plenty of times before— he’s got a tendency to stare. it’s always well intentioned, and his eyes get big and wide like a kid on christmas morning or a dog at the mention of a treat. buck can’t help it. he knows that he knows that the face a couple paces away is a familiar one, but sometimes it takes a minute for his memory to shuffle through and realize what it is.

"uh," with a breathy laugh, and enthusiasm clearly about to burst, he slows his approach. “right yeah, yeah the videos!” he can't even spare a second for embarrassment at the mistake, meeting the other's hand in a firm shake.

"oh i know! you're tyler," he points out, hoping to amend whatever first impression he's sort of slipped up on. "you're the...  if you feel it, chase it! you're..." buck is admittedly speechless-- more so than the time when he ended up at some celebrity's mansion on a call. "you're awesome, man. i mean what all of you do is just so incredible and-" buck has to let out a breath, smile wide. "i'm buck."

it's  a  cloudy  day  ,      but  not  enough  to  warrant  worry  .      the  air  isn't  heavy  enough  and  there's  no  scent  of  petrichor  to  alert  him  to  anything  other  than  this  world  ,      as  far  as  everyone  knows  ,      is  still  turning  .      he's  wiping  a  stray  trail  of  water  from  his  chin  ,      a  mishit  from  the  lip  of  his  bottle  ,      when  he  spots  this  stranger  approaching  him  with  a  curious  mettle  that  he  admires  right  out  the  gate  .
