closed starter for @honeyedblossom ( diego & manuel )
Diego swallowed thickly as he stared at the door that stood between him and his biological father. Someone he never thought he'd meet, someone he had never wanted to meet up until a week or so again. The lies his mother had fed him unravelling the more she had yelled, telling him that he hadn't wanted neither of them, that he hadn't bothered -- while the box of evidence that suggested otherwise sat between them.
He'd wasted very little time shoving his things in a bag and jumping on the next flight to Huntsville before he could even comprehend what the hell he was doing. What if she had been right? Maybe the man truly didn't want him, and the letters, the cards had been... to save face? He wasn't so sure, but he knew he wouldn't be able to rest if he didn't find out. It didn't take him long to find out where the man lived, given the return address. Diego only hoped the man was still here.
Taking a deep breath, he raised his fist, knocking three times as he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet. He was rarely nervous, but this situation warranted the nerves that bubbled in the pit of his stomach. As the door opened, Diego took in the sight of the unfamiliar looking man in front of him, teeth tugging on his lower lip. "Uh, hi," He mumbled awkwardly, the reality of this being a really fucking terrible idea sinking in. He should have called, texted or something before showing up unannounced. Clearing his throat, he asked, "Are you Manuel Laferte?"
