Figure You Out | Tamlin & Briar

Tamlin was exhausted and the rescue hadn’t even begun, yet he was thankful that lunch and a spot of vulnerability for his love for ducks had brought back Briar’s smile. He had never meant to seem judgmental — his guard over his heart was deeply instinctive. People trying to love him or disagree with him tended to make it rear up like a wild horse. Wild as a horse, shut tightly as a clam, sometimes Tamlin genuinely just wished he could be free to quack like a duck. Their lives were so…peaceful.

They approached the border as the sun was setting and Tamlin dismounted, remembering to help Briar off her horse. He could be firm and friendly. He didn’t have to feel the amount of emotions to show her kindness and respect. My mother wouldn’t be very happy with how I’d treated her before. She made me promise to not grow into my father.

To not be cold. To not be cruel.

He wasn’t cruel. Tamlin knew that; but cold? He was cold as ice. Warmth felt dangerous. Dangerous, yet inviting.

“I’ve made reservations at an inn nearby.” Tamlin placed his hands over his ears to glamor them into a human shape, before doing the same for her. He shifted his eyes from green to blue, shortened his height from a towering 6’6 to a more ordinary 6’2, and his away his intimidating physique. It had been built over centuries. It wasn’t something attainable to human beings. They were here and then they were gone.

His shoulders stiffened and he battled himself as he reached into his pocket and withdrew three rings. It would have been easy to conjur them, but he took marriage seriously — even fake ones. These were family jewels. They weren’t the most precious of stones, but they still carried his family name engraved in the smooth silver. Hawthorne-Sinclair.

He reached for her hand. “May I?”

I was originally gonna keep these exclusive to bluesky but fuck it lmao: I just started doing these daily doodle pages, and I'm planning to try and upload them once a day if possible, even if they look really bad or touch on some personal topics; I think worrying too much about about what people think of my art has sucked a lot of the soul out of it, so I'm gonna try to let that go. I wanna keep it loose and quick, and just thinking on the page free writing style, 1-2 hours max. Here's the page from 12/09/24:

Okay, when i mentioned in a recent post that you should keep notes on your weaving I said I would share some of my notebook pages because, and I cannot stress this enough,,,, notes about your projects is So So Important in weaving. At least for me, if I want to recreate a certain fabric and I haven't done the due diligence in notes, it has ALWAYS come back to bite me. "But I'll remember later-" no you will not that is the devils voice whispering sonorous lies into your ear. Take. Notes.

Take these really cool red/white/grey/black dishtowels. They came out So Freaking Excellent. I was on the tail end of not having written down Anything for a previous project and being mad about it + i was in a hyperfocus mood, so so many notes got taken.

These purple/green dishtowels were pretty cool, I did end up changing the plan halfway through, as you can see pffttt

And here's a few more examples of some projects and their notes, plus a page of me workshopping possible warp combos. Having written down The Striped Dishtowel Template has literally saved my ass so many times, I make so many of these darned things for craft shows and they SELL OUT.

Love that the team continued to uphold Lloyd being extremely mentally unwell at all times. Barely functioning but insisting its fine. Plagued by the visions™. Legitimately had a panic attack when everything started to go wrong. Completely willing to fuck over his entire physiology with weird dragon magic because "yeah that'll probably be helpful later". Waking up screaming and shrugging because its totally normal to have nightmares that horrifying on the regular. A+ on this assignment lads, you've broken Lloyd down to his bare essentials.

I think I would be in far worse straits mentally right now if I didn’t have a job that I really believe in. how wonderful to staff a resource table at parent-teacher conferences and be able to tell beleaguered parents it’s free. Moments like these were so beautiful about her, he thought. The way she looked after the children as they ran back to their parents or siblings, some of them straight to their tents. When she was unobserved and on her own. Lost in thought. Herself. Sometimes he had the feeling that he could read her every emotion, even if he was in no position to assume it. They simply hadn't known each other long enough for that. Initially he thought, they had only met briefly, like two straight lines that intersected at one point, only to move further apart at a steady pace. But their meeting had taken on a different character; they were sine curves that ran at different intervals, but always met at regular points. Perhaps they would eventually converge more and more. Or maybe not. A beautiful prospect and a  pleasant  feeling  that  accompanied  the  uncertainty  of  things. Sometimes it came over him when he thought about her for a long time. This warm feeling spreading through his body. Those were the beautiful moments of the last few weeks.

“Ouch!” he laughed and looked down at her, theatrically placing his hand on his chest as if pain was coursing through his innermost being. “How blind I was, entranced by thy visage, believing at last I'd found one who heeded my tales,” the blonde claimed, looking down at the brunette. How pretty she was, he thought. For a moment, he paused as he studied her eyes, her lips. The longer he looked (was he staring already?), the more nervous he became. What if anything would change in their relationship if he made a move now that he couldn't foresee the consequences of? Of everything he had encountered so far, humans were the more complex beings, whose  thought  processes  he  could  not  always  comprehend. Overwhelmed, he looked around the camper, examining individual objects as he wiped his clammy hands on his black jeans. “So... we could either watch a movie or something or read or see if there's anything exciting happening in the woods tonight: Eerie whispers, forest spirits, hints for ancient civilizations, strange lights, young couples making out in ways no one really wants to see? Really the stuff dreams are made of, if you ask me. What'd you be down for?”

I feel like the first time Camila tells Vee she loves her, Vee is just going to immediately start sobbing hysterically. Both because nobody’s ever loved her before—especially not anyone like a parent—and because IMMEDIATE guilt spiral of “But I’m not her real daughter or her real anything, and I Can’t Be That, Either”

A little mend here that I was pleasantly surprised worked, I fixed the fraying bits on my book-shaped wallet! Figured that red thread works quite well with the themes of War of the Worlds.

First up, we've got some simple stitches perpendicular to the edge of the wallet, think a blanket stitch but the thread doesn't run through the loop created. Honestly, there are probably more complex ways I could have stitched that vinyl "leather" back onto the fabric and cardboard of the book structure, but I figured these simple stitches would be faster, and work just fine.

Second, on a slightly larger tear on the "spine" corner, I did some randa stitching! This actually draws from a style of embroidery I'm almost completely unfamiliar with, most popular in Brazil, so I may be labeling it wrong. If you know better, let me know! I actually need to do similar rim-lining on the other three corners, as the adhesive is starting to come off, and that'll hold it still enough to solve the problem.

Also, some miscellaneous adventures in hemming patches properly! A process that proved MUCH simpler once I found my rolled hem foot. These two patches came out quite good, actually! straight stitching, for the most part, and relatively even folds.

It was much simpler to get the hems just so on a larger patch like this one, thankfully! I'm actually really pleased with the way this one in particular came out, and hopefully, I can make something pretty with it on the thigh of the jeans it goes with. (yes, that's why the patches are numbered, so I can keep track of where they go in the stack!)

Even despite how well things went overall with the patches, I still fumbled, got a bit hasty in trying to get the corner of one of the later patches through the machine. Said haste had me trying to shove shove, cram cram the fabric through the foot to get it hemmed, turns out, don't do that! Results in bending the needle on my machine! Oof!

Luckily, the machine came with some spare needles, so it only slowed me down a little bit!

It fully slipped my mind because I went from pulling teeth & being reluctantly patient to full on cussing, cursing, and hexing the government by the end of 2023.
