"Do you understand sarcasm?" The brunette questioned, a hint of amusement present as she did so, wondering how he hadn't picked up on as much in her earlier suggestion for 'trick or treating'. "I had a feeling you weren't really going to be trailing the streets for candy. But, thanks for clarifying." Again, allowing the humour to hint ever so slightly, as she smirked at her company. "But, I'll give you credit where credits due. You're one of the few actually concerned about the potential shit storm this could cause." Maybe it was just common sense? But then again, if that was the case, there was a handful without it that she'd bumped into thus far. All of whom were basking in the Halloween glory, desperate to get into their fancy dress glad rags and hit the town.
it did feel like some cheesy horror movie, that's for sure but unfortunately, it was their reality. it was just weird to him that everyone seemed to be brushing all of this off. he assumed people would be more afraid when it came to what was happening around wilmington. "i'm entirely too old to trick or treat. i don't believe anyone would give me any candy even if i did ring a doorbell and hold a bag out. so, you can count me out for more than one reason."

"I'd be happy to give it another read," he answered with a bit of a smile. It wasn't often he got to be an editor of sorts for anyone else. To be their reader and someone to bounce things off of. Jacob found it to be a good feeling and wanted to be that writer that supported others, especially those aiming to break into the business. "After I read it again, if all is good, how would you feel about me passing on the manuscript to my agent?"
he couldn't help but smile at the man in front of him. mostly because he was stoked over the fact that someone who did the whole writing thing for a living thought that his writing was worth something. pearce nodded his head, "noted, man. i'll go through it again and if you wouldn't mind giving it a second go once i edit things or i could hand it over to someone else. are you up for going over it a second time?"

"Well if they figure that out, then won't you be out of a job?" Rhys quipped jokingly, a teasing smile upon his lips. "You've gotta help them but make them dependent on you, isn't that what all the fucked up psychological thrillers tell you about psychologists?" he teasingly poked again, knowing that he was walking a fine line with his friend that the pair knew they could cross from time to time. "Beers it is." Rhys decided in between bites of his sandwich. "You gotta find a way to switch off after work or you'll become just as crazy as your clients."
as his friend spoke, a scoff followed. "right. i wish that's all my job was though, i think i would eventually find myself tired of hearing the same old complaints. they're not getting enough attention, their husbands neglect them, and whatever else. all i have to say is that money isn't always worth it and i hope those women have figured that out." pearce paused to take yet another bite of his sandwich and nodded in agreement, "i'm up for anything. i could use a drink after that session anyways. it was a bit intense, if i'm being honest with you."

"This all feels very Scream, if you ask me." An eyeroll followed, wondering why people weren't a little more concerned, but then again, someone was behind bars, right? "I'm just waiting for someone to call me to ask if I like scary movies." Not that she was making light of the situation, it was just how she coped. Humour. "So, should I take this as you're not going trick or treating, huh?" A smirk followed, of course not particularly expecting the grown man to be running around door to door, asking for candy. '"Cause here I was, waiting to see you with that little pumpkin bag saying 'trick or treat'."
OPEN.
"you know," the therapist started, "most of the time i would be looking forward to halloween but a part of me is thinking that the psycho going around wilmington and taking people is going to use the whole costume thing to their advantage." pearce wasn't normally so serious unless he was at work but people were genuinely getting hurt and he was concerned as to what was going to happen to a place he considered home. "i just think everyone should consider how much of a bad idea it is with everything going on. i know everyone has that mindset that it couldn't possibly happen to them but it very well could. it could happen to anyone."

"It needs some sprucing up but it's good, Pearce. It's actually a really solid first draft. I'd run through it again and smooth out some transitions and make sure everything aligns." There was a little choppiness here and there which was what an agent or publisher would comment on. His friend had talent though, that was easy to see. "The psychology has helped you a lot. The characterization is really strong. Definitely don't let this sit or be pushed aside, there's something here."
pearce certainly appreciated any help that was tossed his way, especially when it came to things he didn't have much experience with. in fact, he really didn't think that writing would be something that he would end up pursuing at any point once he had decided to shift his interest more toward psychology but clearly, it was still something he enjoyed. "well, i don't know. do you think it needs some sprucing up or is it good enough to turn in?"

Eventually, Rhys glanced up from the article he had been reading on his phone, simply watching the tornado that was Pearce. "You do realise you're in control of your own life and you chose that career path, right? I mean, I can hardly understand why. Isn't most of your job listening to neglected wives from Carriage Falls complain about their cheating husbands?" he teased jokingly. Rhys could hardly talk about the difficulty of Pearce's job when he himself owned a bar. "You wanna go down to the grille later? Watch a game?" he mused, taking a long sip from his soda can. "I wanna go out for a drink, but somewhere that isn't my own 'cause you know those fuckers will still pester me with questions even on my day off."

"-jesus christ," the man plopped down across front the other with a huff, "look, normally i don't complain about my job, because i love what i do but that last one went way over time and that's the reason i'm late and starving," he paused, picking up the sandwich the other had ordered for him after letting him know that he was, in fact, going to be late for their lunch plans, "but i am free the rest of the day." he added after taking a bite and swallowing it down with some water. "so, do you want to get into something or what? don't tell me you've got to go back to work."

When it came to writers trying to get their foot in the door with either a publisher or publication, Jacob wasn't stingey about helping out if he saw the means to do so. He sat with a drink in reach as his eyes moved over and took in the words on the pages in front of him. "If you're to know anything about me it's that I'm honest," he said glancing over at Pearce. It wasn't gospel, not a single person was honest, but he meant in the way of if Pearce had a shot or not. This wasn't something he'd lead someone on about. "So far I like it," Jake commented, glancing over again, "is this a rough draft or something you'd try to turn over to an agent?"

pearce didn't often share his work with other people and that was mostly because it wasn't something he did professionally, so he wasn't even sure if it were worth reading. though, once he met jake and he knew the other did it for a living, he felt as though the other could steer him in the right direction. he leaned back, eyes studying the other as he continued to read what pearce had written. "come on, be honest. you can tell me if it's absolute rubbish."
