India and France are close allies with common interests in the Indo-Pacific region and the fight against terrorism. The close relations between the two countries can be gauged from the fact that France does not give any weapons to India's opponents. At the same time, India also refuses to share the stage with the opponents.

Help in trying to stop the felling of 33,000 trees in Bengaluru
The Bangalore Development Authority(BDA) has announced the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project, an 8 lane, 65.5 km long road connecting Tumkur Road to Hosur Road estimated to cost 15,111.42 crores.
The draft Environmental Impact Assessment dated June 2020 reveals that the project requires the felling of 33000+ trees. The BDA has sought to acquire 25 acres forest area from the Jarakabande Forest, from which approximately 16 thousand trees are to be cut down.
The project will also have a grave impact on 6 water bodies which fall within the ambit of this project. The water resources and quality in the catchment areas of TG Halli will be impacted greatly. The proposed Peripheral Ring Road project will be in close proximity to the Bannerghatta National Park and Puttenahalli Bird Conservation Reserve endangering thousands of species while damaging the biodiversity of the city. The removal of such a huge number of trees will suffocate our Bangalore proudly known as the Garden city.
The project would have a devastating impact on Bengaluru's air quality, weather and its ecosystem. We as responsible citizens strongly oppose the PRR project. We demand that the project either be scrapped completely or be revised such that no harm is done to our environment.

Indian Mass Media Lacks Credibility and Transparency
According to science, all living organisms thrive on others. One’s weakness becomes a source of success for others. It appears to be absolutely right in the case of mass media in India. Out of 1.4 billion people, 77.7% are literate. Being literate in India means one has to know how to write his or her name. In such a scenario, one-third of the population is illiterate, 80 crore people survive on government aid, which is popular in the name of ration, and huge unemployment could be understood by the fact that 38% of IITians are unemployed this year. The Indian mass media is capitalizing on these resources by doing gossiping in support of the government 24x7. The market size of the mass media industry combining electronic and print media will amount to a thousand billion Indian national rupees.

ASSAM FLOODS – DISASTER AMID NATURE
Assam, a renowned state with picturesque landscapes, is known for its natural beauty and rich culture. It is home to various hills and mountain ranges, from the Patkai Range to the Khasi Hills, adding to its beauty. The state is also home to the Brahmaputra, one of the largest rivers in the country, popularly known as the "Sorrow of Assam." Describing the river in such a vague term carries significant meaning for many people that most of us tend to overlook. The beauty of the Brahmaputra also brings with it a never-ending array of destruction and sorrow. Each year, the river swells and overflows, leading to widespread floods that wreak havoc across Assam. The floodwaters submerge villages, farmlands, and wildlife sanctuaries, displacing thousands of people and animals. The relentless floods result in the loss of lives, homes, crops, and livestock, leaving behind a trail of devastation.
The human toll of the Assam floods is immense. Thousands of families are forced to evacuate their homes and take refuge in relief camps. The loss of shelter and livelihood plunges them into uncertainty and despair. The floods also disrupt access to clean water, food, and healthcare, exacerbating the suffering of the affected communities. Moreover, it also results in the closing of schools and colleges as they either submerge or are converted into shelters for affected people.
Addressing the issue of Assam floods requires a multifaceted approach. Improving infrastructure, such as building more robust embankments and dams, is crucial. Additionally, implementing effective early warning systems and emergency response plans can help minimize the impact of floods. Sustainable land and water management practices, along with reforestation efforts, can also play a significant role in mitigating the effects of floods.
I cannot say that a lot has been done, but I can surely say that the government can do a lot or has to be done. Both the central and state governments need to take action at the moment to save the beautiful landscape from drowning in the hands of nature. Most of the dams are poorly built, and even though the Chief Minister belongs to the ruling party, the state lacks proper infrastructure in flood-affected areas, with muddy roads and bamboo bridges that fail to stand before the deadly floods.
To quote the 2024 budget, the total receipts other than borrowings and the total expenditure are estimated at ₹32.07 lakh crore and ₹48.21 lakh crore, respectively.  The finance Minister announced a comprehensive financial package worth Rs 11,500 crore to bolster flood management initiatives and irrigation projects in various flood-affected states across the nation. We have to wait and see how much of this money actually goes for flood management practices and how much of it goes in the hands of greedy politicians and contractors.“Assam grapples with floods every year by the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, originating outside India. We will assist Assam in flood management and related projects,” Sitharaman said in her Budget speech in Lok Sabha. The death of thousands is reduced to a mere sentence. Are they being oblivious? They can’t be if we are together.
There are divergent paths that can be taken by the government as well as by people to tackle this age-old problem. The first would be the development of the infrastructure by constructing embankments and dykes. Community preparedness would be a secondary choice if the state had basic infrastructural facilities. The government should also develop and regularly practice community evacuation plans, ensuring everyone knows the safest routes and emergency shelters. For example, in 2022, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) introduced the "Flood Preparedness Index" to enhance flood management. This tool involves creating scorecards for each district to evaluate disaster preparedness. District disaster management officers manually answer a series of "yes/no" questions to assess administrative compliance with predefined actions required before the monsoon season. While these parameters are essential, they only measure preparedness and do not account for comprehensive data on losses, needs, or vulnerabilities, nor do they consider how these factors vary across districts or contexts or what actions are necessary to mitigate the worst impacts of floods on people.
The Flood Report as of 03-07-2022 stated that 26 districts were affected: Bajali, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Dibrugarh. Rivers flowing above the danger level included Kopili (Dharamtul), Disang (Nanglamuraghat), Burhidihing (Chenimari(Khowang)), and Brahmaputra (Dhubri; Tezpur; Neamatigha). The Assam Flood Report as of 05-08-2024 stated that only three districts – Sivasagar, Golaghat, and Dhemaji – were affected. But in reality, more than three were affected, as there was no mention of my home district, Nagaon, where many old artificial mounds were broken, leading to loss of lives and property.
The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) observed in the first installment of its Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) that was released on 9 August 2021 that “…the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation events have increased since the 1950s over most land areas” and that “human-induced climate change is likely the main driver.” Thus, as climate change tips toward a full-blown crisis, northeast India faces the prospect of more extreme rainfall. The ongoing floods in Assam should be seen as a wake-up call that finally galvanizes action on adaptation. Although engineering solutions such as embankments still have a role to play in mitigating floods, they are no longer sufficient. Nature-based solutions, therefore, have an obvious place in Assam’s flood defense toolbox and provide a powerful complement (or alternative) to engineering solutions. Working alongside engineering solutions, nature-based solutions will boost the overall resilience at all levels of flooding.
The floods of Assam highlight the fragile balance between nature’s beauty and its devastating power. It shows how nature can quench your thirst and drown you simultaneously. Addressing this requires more than just infrastructure; it calls for innovative flood management and community preparedness as well as the voices of the people of this land. As climate change intensifies the challenge, urgent and collaborative action is needed to protect Assam's people and preserve its rich heritage.

Nagas, the mythical creatures
Tumblr media
The Nagas
The Nagas, mythical creatures from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, are half-human and half-cobra beings that can be both a threat and a boon to humans. Their name means 'serpent' in Sanskrit, and they reside in Pata-loka or Naga-loka, an underground kingdom adorned with exquisite jewels and stunning palaces. According to legend, Brahma, their creator, sent them underground when they overpopulated the Earth. They only emerge to bite those who are genuinely evil or fated to die prematurely.
The Nagas were a group of people living during the period of the Mahabharata, an epic from India, and were spread across the country. They had a fierce rivalry with the demigod tribes known as Suparnas. The Naga clans in Kerala and Kashmir were believed to be the original and indigenous abode of all Nagas, and cities like Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Anantnag in Kashmir stand as testaments to this. In Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism, Nagas can take any shape, but they mostly appear as human beings. They are demigods associated with water and treasure. Lord Shiva, the most powerful god in the Hindu pantheon, wears a garland, anklets, and armlets made of snakes.
Tumblr media
Snakes also serve to decorate and protect the gods Bhairav and Mahakala. Ananta, the thousand-headed Naga, protects Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction. In Hindu myths, Nagas defend the gods and even serve as their resting place. Nagas also safeguard doors, windows, and temple walls, making their carvings and sculptures a common sight in Hindu temples. Female Nagas, referred to as Nagis or Naginis, belong to serpent royalty and are renowned for their breathtaking beauty. They hail from dynasties, including Manipur in northeastern India, Pallavas in southern India, and Indochina's ancient ruling Funan family. The Hindu canon contains several references to beings from other planets.
Tumblr media
For example, the Bhagavata Purana, one of the 18 significant Puranas from a Vaishnava perspective, mentions other beings. The creation of the universe is described in detail in Canto 3, the universe in Canto 5, and battles between demigods and demons on other planets are detailed in Canto 8. The Mahabharata also extensively mentions beings on different planets. The Panchang, an ancient Indian calendar, has evolved in Indian astronomy over the past 5000 years. It predicts the exact time of lunar and solar eclipses and the dates and times of all our festivals from time immemorial. It continues to be widely followed in India. The star positions for all significant events in the Mahabharata and Ramayana, two major Indian epics, are also given.
Modern astronomers have dated these positions and found them to be internally consistent. Surprisingly, our ancient story of Dasavatharam, which mentions the ten avatars of Vishnu, also describes the evolution of life from fish to amphibians, animals, half-animal/half-human creatures, short, intelligent humanoids, forest-dwelling axe-men, ideal homo sapiens, wise politicians, and finally, Buddha. Darwin's theory mirrors this up until the homosapien. The tenth avatar, Kalki, is believed to be the technically adept human of tomorrow. Finally, a 16th-century hymn called the Hanuman Chalisa describes the distance to the Sun. It states that one yuga, an epoch, equals 4.32 million years. The Hanuman Chalisa claims that the Sun is at a distance of 100 crore yojanas from the Earth, with one yojana equating to about eight miles, which translates to 800 million miles.
Ancient references mention that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun and that the size of our solar system is close to the same as it is now. Various texts also discuss the nature of time, reality, and consciousness. Modern science is validating these ideas one by one.

Same idiot here for information on what are like the culturally appropriate things to do for pujo in Bengal
(non Bengalis here's your guide to act native to pujo madness)
So, what IS pujo?
Following mahalaya, (if you don't know what that is, here's the infodump i did;)
Devispaksha begins. The goddess is returning home. There's a different side to this story however.
THE MYTHOLOGICAL SIDE AND WHAT THAT GREEN THING YOU SEE AT DURGA'S FEET IN EVERY PANDAL IS.
So, mahishasur was believed to be a monster. He one day decided to go into the depths of a jungle and sit for an intense tapasya. So he did. He prayed to lord brahma for months and months. He was covered in ivy and moss, Insects grew on him but he stayed firm. For months he prayed, without food or water. Brahma, impressed by his tenacity appeared before him. Mahishasur asked for the boon of immortality. Brahma granted him his wish. "You shall not be killed by any man in heaven, hell, or earth." Strengthened by his boon, Mahishasur attacked Indrapuri, The court of God Indra. He captured his throne. The gods turned to brahma for help. Brahma, on realising his mistake, went to consult with Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. the gods decided that as mahishasur couldn't be destroyed by any MAN, they needed to create a female source of power to end him. The gods gathered. They collected their powers and from the blinding lights, emerged the goddess of feminine power-Durga. She was bestowed with weapons; she was given strikingly beautiful features, And then, armed with a hundred hands and skilled in hundred different weapons, she went on the fight. Mahishasur, initially enthralled by her beauty, proposed to marry her; but she declared war. The battle went on for days. At the end, Durga's vahan, the lion pounced on the asur, Durga stepped on him and piercing her trishul through his heart, emerged victorious. The evil was dead. The power that laid within the flashing eyes of the goddess had won.
Tumblr media
GOT IT. SO WHAT DO I DO DURING PUJAS?
Puja celebrations usually don't start in it's full-fledged glory till atleast the fifth day (panchami). it continues till the tenth day (Dashami).
If you live in kolkata during pujas, GO OUT. The whole city is bedazzled in lights, there are fairs through the city. Nobody sits at home; everybody is out on the roads sparkling and dressed to nines. Wear your best dresses and walk through the streets at night till the sun comes up. The most major part of pujas is pandal hopping. Thousands of pandals with budgets of crores are made at various spots in the city. These are pandals as huge as marketplaces; each with different themes. There are competitions every year between them, based on which pandal had the best durga idol, which had the best theme, which had the best structure, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pujas are the time when Kaash ful(the white flowers I clicked last year in the fourth picture) are in full bloom, there are lotuses in bloom in ponds; nature is bedecked in her best jewels.
Keeping in spirit with the goddess returning home, bengalis usually return home during pujas. it's a time to visit families, revsit old friends and have complete unabashed fun. It's time to gobble down on junk foods as much as you can. Oh and girls, on Ashtami(or the eighth day), make sure you put on your best sarees for arti and bedazzle the guys on the road;)
Despite the intense commercialization of the pujas that has happened in the last few years, it still remains an extremely core emotion for us bengalis. It's the time of homecoming, of taking a break and reconnecting to our roots every year. it's the time of visiting family, of recreating old memories, of re-living new and old romances. It's the whole world celebrating you coming home. It's the world celebrating the power that lays inside every woman- a mother, a sister, a wife.

Jawan: One of SRK's Best Movies
Follow me on Instagram: @thatguyanesejournalist
Let’s talk about Atlee’s Jawan
Tumblr media
Azad is a jailer at a women’s prison who moonlights as a vigilante with the aim to rectify corruption in Indian society, targeting a specific individual whose actions and status have caused extreme suffering for civilians.
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest. The plot could have easily been a two-dimensional hero versus villain story that we’ve all seen too many times. However, adding the stories about Kalki’s father and Dr. Eeram’s “negligence” really brings a depth to the plot that proves this film is not just a story about a protagonist and an antagonist: it’s a story about the people of India.
For example, to avenge thousands of farmers’ suicides, the team holds passengers of a train hostage until they get paid ₹40,000 crore ($4,818,532 USD) so they can repay the loans of the Indian farmers. The viewers finds out through one of the most emotional scenes in the movie that Kalki’s father, who was a farmer, committed suicide so that his family could pay off the loan on their tractor with the money they would receive from his death. In real life, more than 12,000 farmers in India commit suicide every year due to debts. These anecdotes in the film bring a touch of needed reality to the plot; in fact, the reality-based conflicts are something I think Bollywood needs desperately these days.
Tumblr media
Personally, I think this is one of SRK’s best movies. I’ve been waiting to see what movies SRK was going to churn out now that he isn’t doing purely romance movies anymore. I think Jawan is a great example of the content SRK is capable of creating without being a romance hero. And you see this with Azad and Vikram Rathore, who aren’t your typical protagonists. You would expect the protagonists to take the main spotlight for most of the movie. However, SRK shares the screen with a plethora of other female characters and doesn’t overshadow their acting or stories.
Tumblr media
One character that I absolutely adored was Narmada. As a female protagonist, she wasn’t the “damsel in distress” that needed saving all the time. In fact, she was a tough character throughout the movie who held her own, even when she found out Azad’s real identity as a vigilante. I really do appreciate Narmada’s character arc and the fact that she could always defend herself as an individual.
Tumblr media
A quick shoutout to Kalee Gaikwad and how effortlessly Vijay Sethupathi acted in his role. This was actually the first movie I’ve ever seen him in, and he conveys the psychotic qualities of his character without it seeming fake or unconvincing. I have a whole bunch of Vijay Sethupathi movies lined up for me to watch for the future!
Tumblr media
Also, another shoutout to Aishwarya Rathore and the wonderful Deepika Padukone. Even though her cameo in the movie was short, it was an impactful one and gave me major Om Shanti Om vibes. I love how her character was also strong and independent, refusing to be coerced by Gaikwad and his scheme to frame Vikram.
Tumblr media
I loved the movie so much. There was impactful dialogue throughout, even though some parts did sound a bit preachy but still fit the message that the movie was trying to convey. The references to SRK’s iconic movies didn’t go unnoticed by me, and it was done in a way that didn’t make me cringe. I also appreciated the way there were numerous fourth-wall breaks that seemed like SRK was addressing the real-life viewers during the film’s most crucial moments; by staging this scenes as messages to the actual people, it causes viewers to think about their own political landscape in their country and how they can impact their own government (LEGALLY, PLEASE).
Tumblr media
All the songs on the soundtrack, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, were pretty catchy to me. Welcome to another episode of me having a hard time to curate my song list. At the end of the day, I included both popular and seemingly underrated songs from the film. Give them a listen!
Aararaari Raaro
Chaleya
Zinda Banda
Tumblr media
The movie is 2 hours and 50 minutes long. Stream the extended cut on Netflix, grab a snack, and enjoy!
Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Bhopal Gas Tragedy
No one can tell how many people died in the Bhopal Gas tragedy. All that the older generation remembers is a city strewn with corpses on that winter morning of cold December 1984. What they mistook for fog was toxic methyl isocyanate leaking from a pesticide factory in Bhopal. Over 5 lakh people were exposed to that gas. 40 tonnes of toxic gas. It was the world’s worst industrial disaster. Union Carbide India Limited owned by Warren Anderson. But the Bhopal factory, UCIL, was majority owned by Union Carbide Corporation, with Indian Government-controlled banks and the Indian public holding a 49.1 percent stake. In Bhopal probably tens of thousands died. America’s worst ever-industrial disaster was the Hawk’s Nest Tunnel disaster. That was also United Carbide Corporation’s. 1000 labourers died.
The estimated magnitude of disaster varies according to sources. More than 3,500 people died soon after. Authorities also say at least 15,000 people have died since the leak, although activists put the number at some 33,000. The official immediate death toll was 2,259.The government of Madhya Pradesh confirmed a total of 3,787 deaths related to the gas release. A government affidavit in 2006 stated that the leak caused 558,125 injuries, including 38,478 temporary partial injuries and approximately 3,900 severely and permanently disabling injuries. Others estimate that 8,000 died within two weeks, and another 8,000 or more have since died from gas-related diseases.
Five thousand deaths were quoted in the court case which the government itself revised to around 23,000. Over 5 lakh people were permanently disabled. Activists like N D Jayaprakash of the BGPSSS, have faced repression, arrests, denial of information and corruption to campaign against this fraud, where the numbers of affected were fudged and deaths arbitrarily counted. While the government claimed that only 3000 had died, the people’s organizations have proof of more than 20,000 dead and 5.7 lakh seriously injured.
Ten thousand people may have died immediately. Over the years may be 25,000 people would have died.
They never got punished. Civil and criminal cases were filed in the District Court of Bhopal, India. People of Bhopal never got justice. In June 2010, seven former employees, including the former UCIL chairman, were convicted in Bhopal of causing death by negligence and sentenced to two years imprisonment and a fine of about Rs. 1 lakh each.
Warren Anderson, the UCC CEO at the time of the disaster died, unpunished.
Union Carbide Corporation still exists bought over by Dow Chemicals now.
In 1989 Union Carbide paid around 47 crores as compensation to the victims. After that Dow says all its liabilities were resolved. They did not pay the money on their own. It was a Supreme Court ruling. They decided to settle at that money. The court decided to settle only on compensation, not punishment. Anderson had not shown up in Bhopal Court despite several summons through Interpol and is now dead, unpunished.

Ever since Karnataka’s election results were announced, the discourse on freebies ruining the economy and making the poor ‘lazy’ has again taken centre stage. News channels have been speculating on how many thousands of crores it will take for the Congress government to fulfil its five poll promises, portraying them as a massive burden on the state economy. On social media, the usual disenchantment over “taxpayer money” being misused on “freebies” has only gotten shriller. With freebies and taxpayer money becoming the favourite buzzwords for the privileged, who indulge in political commentary as a recreational hobby, it is important to unpack them and call out the problematic nature of this narrative.

The Scandal Unveiled: Pune's APS Wealth Venture LLP and the Investor Fraud
Pune, April 19th, 2023 - The financial world was recently rocked by a shocking revelation of a massive investor fraud, involving an astounding 700 crore rupees as per news article. The mastermind behind this elaborate scheme was Avinash Arjun Rathod, owner of APS Wealth Venture LLP, a Pune-based company that promised investors the opportunity to double their investments in the stock market within just 20 months. This enticing proposition lured thousands of investors, including government officials, into a web of deceit that ultimately led to significant financial losses.
The Rise and Deception:
Avinash Arjun Rathod's journey into the world of financial deception began in 2011 when he established APS, a share market company operating under the guise of wealth creation. With a veneer of legitimacy, Rathod started to attract investors by offering the prospect of doubling their investments. To gain initial trust, he made small refunds, slowly building the popularity and reputation of his company.
As APS Wealth Venture LLP gained notoriety, it gained the confidence of a wide range of investors, including individuals from Pune, Mumbai, Vidarbha, and other cities. The promises of lucrative returns seemed irresistible, and many entrusted their hard-earned savings to Rathod's scheme. Over the years, the fraudulent scheme expanded, accumulating an estimated 700 crores or more from unsuspecting investors.
The Deceptive Delay:
When investors began to request their returns and refunds in March 2023, APS Wealth Venture LLP resorted to delaying tactics. Citing health reasons for Avinash Rathod, the company requested investors to wait until April 10th, 2023. During this period, Avinash Rathod's wife, Vishakha Rathod, assumed control of the company's operations and engaged with investors. Her presence further extended the deception, buying more time for the company to address investor concerns.
The Aftermath and Legal Action:
As the truth behind the fraudulent scheme began to surface, investors grew increasingly anxious. Many had put their trust and financial futures in APS Wealth Venture LLP, only to find themselves caught in a financial quagmire.
Legal authorities swiftly swung into action, launching investigations into Avinash Arjun Rathod's activities and the operations of APS Wealth Venture LLP. The objective was to bring the perpetrators of this massive financial fraud to justice and recover as much of the investors' funds as possible.
Conclusion:
The Avinash Arjun Rathod and APS Wealth Venture LLP scandal serves as a grim reminder of the importance of due diligence and cautious investing. It underscores the vulnerability of even seasoned investors to enticing promises of high returns and the need for stringent regulatory oversight in the financial sector.
If Indian citizen fails to pay a EMI for a month bank goes to any extent to recover their money and in this situation no one’s bother to find this person who seems to be hiding in Dubai as per rumours.
