19 & 20 for the ask game thingo
Mun Writing Meme
19. What one piece of literature has been most inspirational/life changing for you? Why?
That's actually a tough question, because I don't consider any single piece of literature to be the foundation of my life or my writing. I'm the type to absorb from a lot of different sources and mold around it. Writing-wise, I've taken inspiration from many fictional and nonfictional works and used them as a springboard to figure out what style suites me best. Additionally, I'll pull inspiration from movies, shows and webcomics/webnovels too. From there, it boils down to just a lot of writing and experimenting to see what I think flows best. And this goes for both RPing and regular writing.
20. Who are your top three favorite fictional characters and why?
I wouldn't say these are my top three (it's always hard for me to narrow down "top" anythings), but they currently stick in my mind. So, excluding any FF characters, one fictional character I like is actually from a KR webnovel: Kim Gongja 김공자 (SSS-Class Suicide Hunter). This is because as a whole, while KGJ's initial motive in the story is based on revenge, his character is actually very self aware. He understand the weight of his actions, and the consequences of those around him that influence the world. He's a slightly unhinged dude with a lot of inner conflict, but at the same time that allows him to strive for a better future from an outside perspective. Another character is also from a KR webnovel: Kim Dokja 김독자 (Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint). Another character who is self aware, and while he can be selfish and a little bit manipulative, he does have a good heart in the end. He cares for the people around him and has a strong conviction towards his goal. Though, he's very... creative about how he solves problems. He has a bad habit of dying. And another is... well, this will be a bit of a unique circumstance, but it's Eileen the Crow (Bloodborne). She has no extensive lore or outstanding personality traits like the previous two, but her concept and the role she plays both in the setting to Yharnam and amongst the Hunters is fascinating. Soulsborne lore tends to be very obscure and requires a lot of investigation to put the puzzle pieces together, so I can't really explain what's so interesting about Eileen, but just imagine the type of person who is burdened with the task of executing former comrades. (Lore video: here. Beware spoilers.)

Kamen Rider Neo-Heisei Generation (KRNHG) Ramble #1: A Private Richard (Kamen Rider W Episode 1)
Tumblr media
I’ve watched enough episodes of almost every Neo-Heisei season (excluding Gaim and Ghost) to piece together what the main characters and their dynamics with other people are like, but I want to get a better grasp on the characters to churn out better fics. Why not start with W, the home of a private Richard?
I think I’ll only do reviews every now and then, excluding obligatory first and last episode ones, since I did watch about half of most Neo-Heisei Generation seasons over the past five years.
I’ve known for a long time that W starts off sad and cool, but no one told me W starts off this sad and awesome
I’ve heard the OP several times over the years but it’s has the definite feel of a “classic” KR - which it should be. The suit is making me feel nostalgia for no apparent reason + I have never watched a pre-Heisei Generation Kamen Rider show
Not even five minutes into the first episode of W but Shotarou is already making me laugh omg, that’s a record, even though he’s just saying “do you have any business with me?”
And he makes me laugh even harder with the desire to be hard-boiled but he spits his coffee like five seconds after making that speech
But he does look pretty cool when he debuts with the motorbike and that fedora
This episode only buries the fact that shipping Shotarou/Akiko is my sort of style - give me the detective and the girl who will ruin his hard-boiled attempts to live any day
IT’S WAKANA SONOZAKI *heart eyes*
I already know what happens to her and Philip but it’s still a sin in my book, ship teasing siblings before dropping a sibling card out of nowhere, so I will ignore canon
The trust Jin puts into Shotarou...hm...I think I’ll like this guy
I like how quickly they shot down the “I just witnessed so many things but I won’t believe it” trope as Shotarou points out Akiko did get attacked by a Dopant
Philip is the intellectual younger brother Shotarou has to deal with and is fascinated by something as mundane as takoyaki...which is something I’ve known for about five years but still, Philip is endearing to watch. Just look at how joyous he is when he acts like takoyaki was the newest invention to mankind and Shotaro is just...done
And I will always love the Gaia Library
So they shine a light from under the platform Philip stands on when he goes into Gaia Mode, I thought it’d be right next to his face or something. Yeah, I’m slow catching onto these sorts of things
He seems a lot colder here, though I expect future episodes will help melt him into the Philip I’m familiar with
They actually waited until morning for him to finish doing the takoyaki search XD
“I will stop you. No. We will.” I actually said ore tachi ga and kind of swooned when Shotarou does a little smile?
The fact that Shotarou is unpopular baffles me right now because look at him?? In this episode?? He’s dramatic and everything but he cares for the city?? ISN’T THAT WHAT A KAMEN RIDER IS?? HE’S EVEN GOT A FEDORA
How can people not like Shotarou, even if your personal preferences are different from mine, how can you not?
Ohhhh, so he stores the Gaia Memories in his vest pocket. Huh, I thought they were on his belt or something...but secret pockets are cool
I already know how their henshin sequence works but I fan girled hard when Shotarou does the x pose and then a Steven Universe White Diamond pose !!!
I never really noticed the scarf - I just knew it in the sense where it has nostalgia points, but I never thought it was on the long side. It’s quite nice - and those braces on the wrists and ankles help balance the suit out. Also the ‘W’ ‘eyebrows’ above the grasshopper eyes - another good touch!
Also the suit actor enacting the two-in-one concept is pretty cool - the contrasting arm movements are A+. It’s another thing the series was praised for but I didn’t notice that either. At least I am now ^.^
So Luna’s effect extends to Philip’s half’s leg...the attack of the stretchy bananas
...oh dear. I don’t think W’s Rider kick is a favourite of mine...so if Shotarou’s body is the one in the suit but Philip’s soul is in the right side...but then Shotarou’s body splices into two...I’m not going to think much about it like I did with the problem of Accel turning into a motorcycle even though there’s a human getting folded up in there
OH LOOK IT’S THE T-REX GIRLFRIEND DOPANT AKA MARINA YEESH - why did you kill your boyfriend again? I need to keep watching
Also that machine...car...thing, I’ve also known the existence of it but recent KR don’t really use that sort of thing, and I think some Heisei Riders prior to W did, but in a way that was a Sentai-KR fusion - like Den-O or Kiva. Maybe it’s a homage to those series?
A 9/10 for the debut episode. Good character introductions, a nicely done battle, but it does feel a little flat at some points - but of course, the cast will warm up to their roles and live them!
