so i finished the second palace

look i had a bad depression day, i pretty much did nothing but drink matcha and eat pepitas and play this fucking game for the entire day. i don't recommend any of this.

lets try to sum up lmao

the school actually hires a therapist, which is suspiciously proactive of them lmao. i love the girl whose like "his voice is hot" as a person who is a connoisseur of Hot Voices, he's Fine. Like... Logan Cunningham he is not. But he's fine?

He is also the Councillor Arcana, which is one I have to level for the extra content, so I am suspicious of him too.

He is also not above bribery to get people to come say hi, so clearly he is a wise man. The trio here are supposed to go see him, along with everyone who's had direct dealings with Kamoshida. No one is hyped for this, but he seems nice, so.

of course you are, and of course he wants Reverie to help. Every time i see Reverie, i think of that Jeff Winger bit, "Why do so many people flock to me? Is it my height?"

I do enjoy snacks is the thing. Also it's fascinating to me that they apparently added a character into this game who is just here to be a shrink for these kids. How fucked up is this game gonna get, lmao.

The Councillor isn't a standard of RWS or Thoth or TdM. I know, shocking, right? Apparently it's a pull from a Spanish deck, so I'm looking at that card. it replaces the Magician, so... that's interesting. The Magician is a fairly good teacher, albeit kind of a hubristic show-off about it. The original card is under the sun and has the infinity symbol above the head and holds an Ankh and a wand. So they're wielding the metaphorical key to life but also a wand of power.

So... working as a teacher to help people gain control of their lives. Yanno, like a therapist would.

ROLLS MY DANG EYES AT MYSELF. Anyway.

On the way to school, some dude starts following Ann which freaks her out.

I DIDN'T KNOW THIS GAME HAD MATT MERCER. finally some good fucking food.

This guy is Yusuke and he's an artist and wants Ann to model for him in hopes it'll inspire his next work. His manner of speech is fun, very serious but Dramatique and kind of annoyed at people who don't buy into the drama. An aesthete!

Also his teacher drives by, so he's the next target obviously. Never trust the dude in the car who shows up right after your next party member. He's a super famous artist, Madarame.

Also Yusuke introduces himself them steps forward, knocking Ryuji out of the way. Lmao.

To be clear: Ryuji has never done anything wrong ever. My dislike of him is completely unfair. But also: lmao.

At Madarame's art exhibit, Ann happens to be taken by a specific painting. Yusuke reacts really oddly to her interest in it and tries to steer her towards another.

So the gist of this one is: Madarame is this ascetic artist gentleman type who is infamous for using a very wide range of techniques and styles in his work. Wow such talent! Except obviously he's stealing the work of his many students and claiming it as his own.

The Phantom Thieves peg that Yusuke either knows about this or is a victim of it himself, as Madarame's only current pupil, so Ann has to take the modeling gig to get closer to him and discover the truth.

BUT ITS A NUDE MODELING GIG. GASP.

This whole bit just made me kind of nod along. (Which might be the Depression Day to be clear.) Like, the game isn't excessively horny about Ann having to get nude for art, but also Ann is so not interested in doing this shit, compounded by yo her literal origin story in this game is having to perform being this sexual object for Kamoshida, so this whole diversion was.... not as bad as it could be but also just felt so unnecessary.

because this game is a coward. i would throw Reverie on that grenade in a fucking instant, both to protect Ann because putting her in this position Sucks, and also I bet it'd be very funny to play through Reverie doing it. Also, Reverie is pretty objectively hot, why shouldn't he be the model?

Also there is a funny bit where a kid hears meowing on the train and Reverie pretends that Morgana is a doll that makes noise when you touch its head, so of course "Time to button mash."

I have a really old AU world I designed that fits this super well! It was originally Greek based but could fit any and all pantheons! 

Things to know first: The gods and goddesses exist among humans, they can change form/face/gender/etc but always have the same powers and the same eyes; silver for gods and gold for goddesses. The basic division between gods and goddesses isn’t based on gender but how their powers work; defensively or offensively, or outward manifesting powers and inward ones. 

Going to change format here for once and just describe things that could happen because this idea deserves so much more than a oneshot...

So imagine if you will, Roman, who has chosen his current name because he finds it funny, the shining god Apollo walking around through small town America. He wanders into a tourist attraction somewhere to have a look around, and spots someone on the far side staying carefully parallel to him at all times. There’s something about this other figure, and when he recognises them he smiles. 

It’s Janus of course, going by some forgettable name, and they greet each other quietly later on in a local diner. Janus has always been fond of interesting faces, this time round he’s chosen a large birthmark, and Roman commits it to memory just like he always does, as they exchange small talk and disagreements over whose family has caused the biggest mess recently over a shared milkshake. 

They might part ways again soon enough but the world is and always has been too small not to run into one another before long. And Roman didn’t just pick his name because it would make him laugh...

Casting the rest is super hard, but I would initially include Patton as Hestia, Logan as Nisaba/Nanibgal or Thoth, and gosh there were a lot of choices for all of them but none more so than Remus who I really couldn’t pick for! Virgil is also super difficult because I love Phobos and Deimos but I wanted to find a deity that was a singular one that fitted. More research needed!

Ok so before I went to sleep I was watching sanders sides videos and I was also thinking about the Percy Jackson things that were on the internet I switched it off and when to sleep which mixed the sides up as Demi gods but here’s the kicker not Greek or Roman but Egyptian gods it was only disclosed in my dream the Virgil and Logan new which ones they are the sons of and some reason Virgil was the son of Anubis the god of the dead and Logan which isn’t much of a surprise was the son of thoth which is god of knowledge and they outfits matching their parents so here they are (click for better quality)

Fusion~Analogical

INFO -au -the basic logic is that roman was in the mindscape one day like "hey what if we could fuse?" so it became possible -fusions name is nyth bc its a mix of nyx, a goddess of night and thoth, a god of knowledge, because analogical are the smart space gays -its hinted that the dark sides and core sides have a more friendly relationship.

TRIGGER WARNINGS -

Neither of them had expected it. I mean sure they had both fused before, once Roman had introduced the mechanism he created, but never with each other. Virgil had only fused with Roman a couple of times as a way for Roman to assure him it was safe, and Logan only fused with Patton when one of the other sides was experiencing heightened anxiety. However, they can't say neither of them thought about it. They can't say the thought didn't make them happy.

Patton was sick and Roman had offered to help him. Remus and Deceit were off doing stars know what. That left Logan and Virgil to do whatever cleaning Patton would usually do. They started with their own rooms, then Logan took out the trash and Virgil cleared off the table in front of the tv, putting whatever things Roman had left in a box for him to take later. They decided to work together on the dishes and put on songs both of them liked. Halfway through the dishes, they decided to take a break, drying their hands off. Neither of them turned off the music as they both went to sit on the couch.

Virgil's shuffling ended up tripping him, and he yelped as his face rushed towards the carpeted floor, shutting his eyes. Logan heard the yelp and dropped his book, reaching to catch Virgil. There was a flash of light as soon as Logan's hand caught Virgil's wrist, and their forms turned into glowing lumps of dark blue and purple with their logos, wrapping around each other. The light combined and took shape, slightly taller than Logan and Virgil. As the light dissipated, the fusion looked up and down at themselves.

Logan's stiff pants and Virgil's comfortable ripped skinny jeans turned into slightly baggier black jeans with no rips. Logan's dark blue polo and Virgil's black t-shirt and purple jacket was replaced by a black polo under a dark purple jacket with dark blue accents half-zipped. Logan's tie turned purple with the same patches Virgil's jacket had, and the fusion could feel glasses resting on their eyes. They turn to the tv to see their reflection, black glasses over dark blue eyes with black under-eye makeup and naturally resting brown hair with Thomas' purple streak. They notice the polo and jacket both have a logo, a purple brain with glasses above a blue lightning bolt.

Unfortunately, Roman had gone down to check on them upon Patton's request and saw the whole thing. He squealed in delight, making the new fusion jump. "I apologize but this is so exciting! Tell me, what's your name? Pronouns? Oh and Logan told me to ask about stabilizers and de-stabilizers." The fusion's brain tried desperately to play catch up, registering Roman's words with increasing speed. "N-Nyth. Nyth is my name. Uh, they/them... Stabilizers are, uh, space, Patton, Roman- you-, rain, music, and reading. De-stabilizers are the ocean, Deceit, Remus, and situations that would cause Virgil anxiety."

Roman smiled, "Well Nyth, welcome to the world! I'll tell Logan that information to write down later, for now, you should come to see Patton!" Nyth nodded and pushed up their glasses as they followed Roman back up the stairs. They entered Patton's room a bit nervously, fiddling with their tie. "Patton, I am happy to inform you that Logan and Virgil are absolutely fine... because they fused!" Patton's eyes quickly moved away from the book he was reading and he looked at Nyth with an excited grin, "Hiya kiddo! And what should I call you?" Nyth stopped fiddling with their tie, "Nyth." He told Patton the same information he told Roman and Patton happily clapped.

"It seems you're a pretty stable fusion! I'm happy! But you should be leaving, I don't want to get you sick on your first day fused!" Nyth nodded and left, retreating back to the hall as Roman stayed behind to care for Patton. He looked down the hall to confirm a theory. When Logan or Virgil had fused before, the rooms in the mind palace shifted and made a new one for whatever fusion appeared, but left the original sides' rooms alone. Sure enough, past Virgil's door was a new one, 'Nyth' painted in black letters across it with a couple of glow in the dark star stickers. "Do you wanna- yeah. You? Yes. Okay, here goes nothing." Nyth reached for the door and opened it, revealing a room covered in stars, galaxies, and planets. Bookshelves were in neat rows on the right side of the room, bed with galaxy bedding on the left.

"It's nice," Nyth said, browsing the bookshelves. Various books about animals, space, mythology, and the human body lined the shelves. Nyth grabbed a book on mythology and opened it to a random page. It was about Nyx, the Greek goddess of night. They flipped to another page, this one about Thoth, the Egyptian god of knowledge. Nyth started laughing to themselves quietly, "Clever, my name is a mix of those two." They flopped on the bed and watched the ceiling swirl with a star system they immediately recognized as Alpha Centauri. They pulled a cat plushie close to themselves, "I like this. Being fused. Existing. Let's stay like this. Of course. I enjoy it too." They smiled at themselves and started reading the book they grabbed, content like this.

Egyptian, XCloud & Coppola

Hooray, it is episode 90 and all is well. This week we walk like Egyptians, question the cloud, and applaud Francis Coppola. But first up, have you got your tickets for Supanova Brisbane? Now first up we have news about the most incredible discovery of Egyptian sarcophagi of this millennium, the best in the last century also. Now, we have to say that it is due to a very sneaky priest who hid them to avoid the thieving grave robbers. So, thank you wise priest with your cunning plan. Because of you these remains are safe and will be protected at the new museum being built at Gaza. There were males, females, and children in these sarcophagi, if you want to know more listen in.

Next up we talk about a cloud. Not the soft fluffy kind you see floating through the sky, no, this is an xcloud. What is an xcloud you ask? It is a cloud that is brought to you by xbox and is intended to support mobile gaming with a cross platform goal in the long term. Sounds awesome right, you will finally be able to see the xbox tribe battle against the Playstation civilisation. Not that I’m biased mind you (Playstation rules). If you want to really get a grasp of the situation the Professor has a lot to say about it. So listen in and see what is happening.

Now, for the movie Nerds we have had Francis Coppola slamming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as being kind of boring and pointless. To which James Gunn has taken umbrage, and spoken out claiming all sorts of nonsense. Buck takes great offense and gives a passionate response which is worthy of an Oscar Hall of Fame speech. Truly he seems to struggle to remain calm at times. Truly this could be one of his better grumpy old man moments, especially as it gets Professor to become passionate on the subject. If nothing else this is worthy of a listen.

As normal we have the shout out’s, remembrances, birthdays and special events of interest for the week. Also we would like to say good luck to all those undertaking exams at this time, study hard, and do well. Remember, fear is the mind killer, and stress is a by-product of fear, so relax, just think of the Frodo waking up in Rivendell at the end of the Lord of the Rings. Moore, British conservationist and author who worked extensively on studies of dragonflies and their habitats and was one of the first people to observe and warn of the adverse effects of DDT and other organochlorine pesticides on wildlife. His pioneering work on nature conservation and his pesticide research led to requests for advice from governmental and other scientific organisations in Europe, India, Australia and the United States. It was his work on dragonflies and conservation that led to him coining the term "the birdwatcher's insect", aiming to raise public interest in the role of insect monitoring in ecosystem conservation. I know this blog is suppose to be about the riordanverse, but I’ve been thinking about the Hogwarts episode of Sanders Sides. I never read Harry Potter, so I started thinking, instead wizards, how about magicians. This is what I came up with:

Type of magic

Roman - Combat magic, obviously. He just has to trade his sword in for a khopesh.

Logan - I can see Logan wanting to learn divine words because of the challenge they present.

Virgil - Would probably stick with charm making since it doesn’t require too much energy.

Patton - I would see Patton learning elemental magic, specifically (and you have to know this is coming) cheese. I mean, it’s Patton, he’s studying cheese.

Deceit - Now we haven’t seen much of Deceit, so perhaps it’s too early to judge, but I could see him getting into chaos magic.

Path of the gods

Roman - Horus, no question

Logan - Thoth, again, no question

Virgil - I have thought about this for a long time, but no one really seems to fit and, honestly, I don’t even think Virgil would want to be caught up in all that stuff

Patton - This was also a little tricky, since there isn’t actually a cheese god (that I know of), but I can see him following the path of Tawaret

Deceit - Not really a lot of options here, if he uses chaos magic, he kinda has to follow Set.
