“I agree with (Y/N),” Thor says.
Loki scowls. “Of course you’d agree with her. You’re in love with her.”
“Hey, hey, hey,” I protest. “There’s been no talk of the ‘L’ word thus far in our relationship, don’t go putting words in his mouth!”
Thor glances up at me briefly but quickly focuses on his brother again. “I agree with her because she’s right. We stand a better chance of defeating him if we have support from the Avengers.”
“Thank you!” I cry. “At least someone in your family can see some kind of sense.”
“And you think it’s him?!” Loki hisses.
“I’m more inclined to think it’s him than you.” He scowls and I shake my head. “I mean, seriously. You, Thor, and I are no match for an intergalactic warlord!”
“She’s right, Loki,” Thor says. “You know this.”
“Fine,” Loki snaps. “Have it your way. Drag every single one of your little friends into this. Earth is doomed, regardless.”
“You don’t know that,” I say.
“I know what Thanos is capable of,” Loki says, his tone low and filled with dread. “I’ve been bent to his will and the instrument through which he exacted his first attack on your planet.”
"I'm not saying that working with the Avengers secures us the win. It just means that we'd have a fighting chance." Loki keeps his face carefully blank and I squint at him. “Unless you think that won’t be enough.”
“I know it won’t be enough,” he grinds out. “And I know this because there are three Infinity Stones on this planet, and Thanos won’t stop until he has all three of them.”
“Three?” Thor’s brow furrows. “I am only aware of two.”
“That’s because the last time you were on Earth there were only two.” He holds out his hand and a glowing blue cube materializes in his palm. “I possess the third.”
“And you couldn’t say something earlier?!” I hiss. “You’ve been talking us in circles when you had the answer up your sleeve the entire time.”
“You should’ve told us, brother,” Thor growls. “This isn’t the time for keeping secrets.”
“How am I to know?” Loki demands. “Your human has so much magic hidden inside of them, how can I assume that she has only the best intentions in mind?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I say.
“Don’t you?” Loki hisses. “You speak of performing spells that someone like you should have absolutely no access to as if you’re simply going for a stroll.”
“Wh-”
“Do you realize how much power is necessary to track something across the galaxy?” His eyes narrow and I try to shrink away from him. “There is something old and powerful within you that you’ve been tapping into. I’m surprised even Thor hasn’t noticed yet.”
“What on Earth are you talking about?” I glance between Loki and Thor, confused. "Thor?"
Thor shakes his head. "True, she's powerful, but I don't know what you're talking about, brother."
Loki scowls. “Of course you don’t. I don’t know why I even bother asking.”
“If you know so much, why don’t you fix everything then, huh?” I demand. “Because all you’ve been this morning is contrary and argumentative.”
“Clearly I’m not capable of solving this problem on my own, or even with my brother added to the equation.”
“Then what’s your grand plan?”
“Your power, in your untrained state, is volatile. But,” he says. “I could teach you.”
“You mean use me and my magic as you see fit,” I correct.
“No, I simply mean that I could better help you to hone your skills than Heimdall can from where he is,” Loki explains. “I am more than talented enough to bring out your full potential.”
“That doesn’t sound much better than what I just said you’d do.” I scowl. “Besides, we wouldn’t have to worry about taking down a galactic super tyrant as a band of three if we just call the fucking Avengers.”
“Oh please, you’ll need to know either way.”
“Maybe. But I’m sure as hell not learning from you, and I’m definitely not having this argument.”
I push myself up from the kitchen table and hurry up the stairs to shut myself in my office. I sit down in my chair, sigh, and put my head down on my desk.
“Childish,” I mumble.
A quiet thump against the door draws my attention away from wallowing in self pity. When the sound doesn’t come again, I get up to investigate.
Upon opening the door, I find Charles sitting outside, patiently waiting for me to let him in. I gesture for him to come inside and he meows before trotting through the door. He hops up onto my chair and then my desk, where he curls up on his blanket under the desk lamp. Only when he’s settled am I reminded that I hid in my office to distract myself with work.
I open my laptop and check my email.
Tumblr media
Someone knocks softly and cracks open the door.
“I’m working,” I say.
“It’s been hours, (Y/N).” I glance up and Thor slips into the room. “I brought you something to eat.”
“Oh.” He holds out a plate with a sandwich and carrot sticks on it and I take it. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Thor scoops up Charles from the desk and takes a seat on the couch. I pick up a carrot and roll it between my thumb and index finger before taking a bite.
“I’m sorry about earlier,” I say. ”I was out of line, storming off like that. I should’ve stuck around.”
“Maybe, but there are times when Loki ignores the comfort of others in favor of pushing on with his own plans. But being the loudest person in the room doesn’t make him right.”
I nod. “I just don’t want to set things back because of a stupid argument. There are more important things to deal with right now than my anxiety over learning to control my magic.”
“I’d say you’ve got a fine grasp on your magic, for now. We wouldn’t be anywhere near where we are, had you not worked so diligently with Heimdall to find Loki.”
“Recklessly, is more like it,” Heimdall says. “Though I cannot argue with his logic. You’ve made incredible progress in your skill in the time that I’ve been teaching you.”
“But should I take Loki up on his offer?” I ask, my voice small. “I saw what happened when he restored your memories. I’m not sure my body could handle that.”
“I’m sure it would be different, were he to teach you and not forcibly put the knowledge into your mind, but…” Thor shakes his head. “That’s not a choice that I can make for you.”
“I know.” I pick at the sandwich. “I still think we should contact your team. Even if Loki’s right, and they aren’t enough, they’re bound to know more people that can help.”
“Then we’ll call them.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
“What about Loki?”
“Loki doesn’t know everything, and I am well aware that I’ll never be able to convince him otherwise. But we don’t need to halt our progress simply because he disagrees with your plan.”
“Thing is, it’d be really nice if it weren’t just my plan.”
“It’s not. I have your back on this.”
I nod. “How do we contact them, though? It’s not like I can just google their phone number.”
“There’s no need.”
“Huh?”
“I memorized Stark’s number years ago.”
“You… memorized Tony Stark’s personal phone number?”
“I did. With the way he flits from one thing to another, he is not an easy man to keep track of. Most of the team either memorized his number or stuck to him like glue.”
I laugh. “I see.”
He smiles. “You should eat. We’ll call after.”
Tumblr media
With my meal finished, Thor and I situate ourselves on the floor in the middle of my office. Charles climbs all over our laps and I have to push his face away from my phone several times.
“You’re sure this is the right number?”
“I’m certain.”
“Okay.” I dial the number, put the phone on speaker, and hold it away from me. “What if he doesn’t answer?”
“He will, (Y/N). It’s not as if it’s easy to find this number.”
“Okay.” I bite my thumb, unsure of what to do with myself. "What am I supposed to say?"
"Explain the situation. We know Thanos is close and that Banner is Earth-side." He tries to reassure me with a smile. "You can do this. I promise."
The phone suddenly stops ringing and my eyes snap to Thors. He nods once and I focus in on the phone.
“How did you get this number.” It’s not a question.
“Tony Stark, right?” I ask.
“If you know enough to ask, then you know you’ve got the right number. Now, how’d you find it?”
“Thor gave it to me.”
“Bullshit.”
“Considering he’s sitting directly across from me right now, I’m gonna say it’s really not.”
"Still don't believe you."
"Well, I could always hand the phone off…" I catch Thor shaking his head. "I'm getting a firm no from the big guy, so I'm gonna say he wants me to do most of the talking."
"Convenient."
“Yeah, extremely. Listen, you can hang up on me, but at least hear me out. I wouldn’t even think about calling you or anyone on your team if it weren’t a life or death situation.”
He sighs. “Fine. If I don’t like what I hear, I’m hanging up.”
“I can’t promise you’ll like it.”
“Just talk.”
I take a deep breath and start talking.
“A few months ago, Thor crash landed in the forest just outside of town. No memory of what happened to get him there or anything like that. I helped him find Loki, who restored his memory, we found out that Asgard was destroyed and then the ship they were on was attacked by a galactic tyrant named Thanos, who’s on his way to Earth as we speak.” I pause a moment to take a breath. “But you knew that last bit already.”
“How would you know?”
“Because Dr. Banner’s back on Earth.”
“... Yes he is. Crashed into some wizard's place on Bleeker Street.”
I frown and glance up at Thor. “Wizard?”
Thor leans forward. “Stark, you said a wizard on Bleeker Street?”
“That you, Hammer Time?‘
“Yes, it’s me. You said a wizard on Bleeker Street. Do you mean Doctor Strange?”
“Have you two met?”
“Yes, actually. Last time I was in New York.”
“Really wish you’d given us a call, pal.”
“I’ll keep that in mind next time, but right now we have bigger things to worry about.”
“Right, another alien invasion. What do they want this time?”
“The infinity stones,” Thor answers. “I’ve no clue how many he’s managed to gather as of now, but there are three on Earth as we speak.”
“Three?”
“One is with Strange, one with Vision, and the third is here, with Loki.”
“Thanos is coming here because we’ve got half of what he needs,” I interject. “If we can figure out a way to protect the stones here or use them against him, we’ll be better off in the long run.”
“And where do you play into this?” Stark asks.
“I just want to help. I can’t fight, but I can use magic. I’ll do whatever I can do make sure we win.”
“You really dig deep into that ‘we’ thing. We haven’t even met yet.”
“I trust her,” Thor says. “She’s powerful, and more than that, she’s reliable.”
“And what about Loki?”
“He’ll see reason, in the end.” Thor nods resolutely. “I’ll see to it that he does.”
“Good. I’ll fill the team in and send a Quin out to pick you three up. Be ready to leave early tomorrow.” He pauses. “Where exactly are you?”
“You’re the one with the fancy computers,” I say. “I’m sure you’re more than capable of tracing the call.”
Stark laughs. “You’re right. I started looking before I even picked up.”
“Wouldn’t expect anything less.”
“What’s your name, mystery girl?”
“(Y/N).”
“Alright, (Y/N). I look forward to meeting you.”
“You too.”
The line goes dead and I drop the phone to the carpet before scrubbing my hands over my face.
“That went much better than I expected it would,” Thor admits.
“I never wanna do that ever again.” I laugh a little hysterically. “I thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest.”
“I promise, he’s a kind man. He is, however…”
“A little paranoid?” Thor nods. “I can’t say I blame him.”
“Are you sure that you want to go with us?”
“Of course. I can’t let you guys cowboy around on your own, especially knowing your team’s past with Loki.”
“I only worry that you may not be safe.”
“I know, but I’ll be able to protect myself, to some extent, and I’m going to work on my magic so that I’ll be stronger before we have to fight. But, until then,” I push myself to my feet. “I need to apologize to your brother.”
“Oh?”
“Well, I figure I should be in good standing with someone before I ask them to teach me something.”
“You’re going to accept his offer?”
“I am. I have conditions, but we don’t have the luxury to wait for Heimdall now.” I cast my eyes upwards. “Absolutely no offense to you, we’re just pressed for time.”
“None taken. (Y/N). As it stands, I’m afraid we’ve most likely exhausted our resources.”
“Duly noted.” I reach out to Thor and he takes my hand. “Things’ll be fine. I promise.”
“I know.” He kisses my knuckles. “But that doesn’t mean that I fully trust Loki.”
“Don’t have to trust him to benefit from his knowledge.”
At that, Thor laughs. "I suppose you're right."
"Would you think of dinner ideas while I talk to him?”
Thor nods and gently pushes me towards the door before getting to his feet. Charles follows us out into the hall and takes off down the stairs. Thor finds Daisy when we reach the ground floor and takes her outside to play. I find Loki in the living room, reading a book on the couch. Charles has situated himself in the recliner across the room and is glaring at Loki, tail swishing.
“You should make an effort to tame your beasts,” Loki says, calmly turning the page in his book.
“Oh really, you’re worried about a little house cat?”
“He doesn’t like me.”
“I don’t like you much, either, so I can’t really blame him.”
He closes the book and sets it to the side. “What is it that you want?”
“I want to apologize for the way I acted earlier.”
“Why?”
“Because I was harsh and abrupt, and I figure it’s better to apologize before I ask you to teach me than after.”
“What made you change your mind?”
“The Avengers are sending a jet to pick us up tomorrow. All of us need to be ready for what’s coming, and Heimdall won’t be able to make it before Thanos does.”
He grins and leans forward on his knees, clearly enjoying this. “So what you’re saying is… you need my help.”
“Yes, that’s what I just said.”
He sighs and leans against the back of the couch, examining his nails. “It’s alright to admit you were wrong, you know.”
“I literally just did. I’m saying that I need your help to fully understand my magic.”
“Now,” he rises to his feet and quickly approaches me. “Was that so hard?”
I roll my eyes and walk off to the back door. “You’re ridiculous.”
Tumblr media
Alright, so we’re headed directly towards a confrontation with Thanos. More than a little stressful to think about, if I’m being honest. Learning from Loki won’t be any treat either, I’m sure.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this chapter! How do you feel about Loki’s place with the reader and Thor? What do you think will happen next? Be sure to like, reblog, comment, and/or shoot me an ask and tell me all about it!
if you’d like to be tagged in future chapters, let me know!

Words: 2803
Warnings: There is like, two cusswords
Thor had just returned back to the compound from a mission in Congo, and all he wanted to do was sleep. However, his dreams of sleep were ruined the moment you, his best friend/not-so-secret crush, dragged him out the door he had entered only moments ago, and back to the elevator.
“Where are we going (Y/N/N)?” the Asgardian asks as he tries to hold in a yawn.
“On an adventure,” you said with a slight smirk, your eyes filled with with a mix of mischief and excitement. That look made Thor wary as you pressed the button to take the two of you to the ground floor.
“I just got back from a mission,” he sighed.
You rolled your eyes so far that Thor was could only see the whites of your eyes for a few seconds, “A fun adventure. I promise!”
Before the thunder god could reply, the doors were open and you were leading him by the hand that made yours seem miniscule. You lead him into the outside heat that made him groan, wishing he had time to change into better attire before you had dragged him off on this little adventure.
Thor was thoroughly taken aback by the two contraptions in the center of the parking lot as you turned the corner of the compound. “What are these contraptions? Some kind of new spy device?” he asked, looking down at you in utter confusion.
The look he was giving you was so adorable it made you giggle as you attempted to explain the mysterious contraptions in front of you. “Well, do you remember when I showed you the bicycles?” A hesitant and slight nod was all you needed to continue your explanation, “These are kinda like that, but more challenging since we only have one wheel! They’re called unicycles! I figured it would be nice to have a backup career in the circus if this Avengers thing doesn't work out.” she rambled.
You grab both the cycles, letting Thor’s hand fall from yours in the process, making him instantly miss the feeling, but he is soon distracted from that when you pass him one of the wheeled contraptions.
The man hesitantly takes it and looks at you with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “Now what?” he asks.
“I just figured we would wing it,” you answer as you attempt to get onto the unicycle and leave Thor wondering what ‘winging it’ was. However, the wonder over weird human terms was soon forgotten as he watched in amusement as you tried to mount the unicycle, very unsuccessfully, one might add.
“You need to try too! It’s not as easy as it looks!” you whined, resting on the ground where you had fallen only moments earlier. Thor took a long look at the contraption in his hand before giving you one last desperate look, only to be met with a hard stare. So, he too tried to mount the half bicycle. It was only a minute before he too joined you on the ground, and the sad puppy dog look he gave you almost made you let him go back inside.
Even with the pleading looks that the god of thunder was occasionally sending your way, you both continued to try and mount the unicycles for another half hour before you finally figured out that you needed a brace to get up there, that normally being a wall.
Now you had gotten the mounting part down, but actually moving was proving to be even more difficult, as you kept running into the wall. “Thor, stand here,” you demanded, pointing to spot in the middle of the parking lot.
Thor’s brows furrowed, but he complied with your wishes. As soon as he stood in the exact spot you had requested, you grabbed onto his shoulder while your remaining hand sayed on the wheel to steady yourself. It took a couple moments for Thor’s breathing to return to seminormalness from your contact.
You tried to mount the bike only to fall back a second later with a quick ‘fuck,’ muttered under your breath. Thor’s hands fell to your hips instinctually, trying to steady you and prevent a fall. While this touch made Thor’s heart beat faster, you seemed to be unaffected and tried to mount the contraption once again.
Unbeknownst to Thor, you were internally freaking out from the warm hands covering your hips. But you tried to cover up your rapid breathing and heart rate with another attempt at an utterly useless skill.
It took another hour for the mounting of the cycle to be mastered. Okay, more like be successful about twenty percent of the time. Regardless, you and Thor were now up and slowly, cautiously, pedaling around the parking lot. You focused on the pedals and your balance, keeping your eyes on the ground in front of you praying for no bumps or rocks, but then you were seeing another wheel in your view.
Thor had also been paying close attention to the ground, and was too focused on that to notice your cycles getting closer and closer together, until it was too late.
The moment Thor saw your tire, he looked up, but it was also in that moment when your cycles collided causing collided bodies to fall to the ground. “Are you okay?” Thor asked you, immediately sitting up to examine your body. His hands explored your uncovered skin, which was slowly turning red, but not from any physical injury.
“Your skin looks red,” Thor murmurs, his worried eyes glancing over to yours.
“It-” you cleared your throat, trying to calm yourself and stop the rushing of blood to your cheeks, “Its fine. Lets keep going. I’m sure I can go for at least twenty seconds this time.”
It was only a few minutes after that when one of Tony’s expensive car alarms started to go off, making you look over to see Thor now balancing on the unicycle, looking in horror at the car he had just put a unicycle-wheel-sized dent into. The two of you exchanged a quick, panicked look before you were both ditching your unicycles and running off towards the building, Friday’s voice fading as you both got farther and farther away from the parking lot.
The two of you booked it up the stairs, not risking the elevator that Tony was surely coming down in to see his newly dented car. Thor held the door out for you on the stairway, letting you take the lead to your rooms. You both raced through the hallways as you reached your floor, leaving a confused and frazzled Steve in the dust. The mini marathon was ended in your room as you pulled Thor in behind you and called out to FRIDAY while the door shut.
“Yes Miss?”
“Can you not tell Tony that we were the ones to dent his car?” you asked hopefully and crossed your fingers while giving Thor a smirk, “Or tell him it was only Thor?”
“Ye-” FRIDAY tried to respond, but was cut off by the Midgardian.
“Actually tell him it was all (Y/N)’s fault.”
“Si-”
“Friday tell him it was all Thor, he got a little confused. I mean I am more trustworthy, and don’t you love me more?” you attempted to goad the AI.
“Sorry Miss, but I cannot-” “I’m obviously her favorite, and besides it was your fault,” Thor tried to reason with you.
“You’re the one that ran into the car!” you playfully shout at the god as the AI tried to interject in the conversation, but ultimately failed as the two of you continued to bicker.
“But you’re the one who got the contraptions and convinced me to ride it!” he counters quickly.
“I didn’t tell you to run into one of Tony’s expensive cars thought!”
“Ma’am, sir?” Friday interjected as Thor took a moment to respond.
“Yes FRIDAY?” you responded.
“Mr Stark is headed this way. I was unable to fulfill your request and was demanded to show him the video tapes.”
Thor was soon running through the door with you hot on his heels as you attempted to avoid the furious philanthropist that just turned the opposite corner, stomping towards your room. “Romeo! Juliet! It's time for Act 5!” Tony yells through the halls after the two of you, but it only caused laughter as you make a break for the stairs.
It was less than a week later when Tony got his revenge on Thor.
The two were sitting in the living space of the compound, everyone was out on a mission, or training. A show was going on in the background, but neither were paying much attention, Tony on his phone and Thor thinking about you.
“Stark,” said Thor, drawing said man’s attention away from his device, “May I ask you about human courting protocols?”
Of course this is where Tony immediately saw his chance and responded, “Of course Zeus, I’m well trained in this area of expertise.” A cocky smirk covered his face as he waited for the god of thunder to ask his question.
“How do you get a human to fall in love with you?” he asks, genuinely hoping for good advice, but Tony knew this was a great way to fuck with Thor and get back at him for denting one of his cars.
The playboy took a moment to think and go over the best plan for revenge, “Well I assume this is for (Y/N)?” Tony asks getting a hesitant nod in response from the Midguardian. “Has she asked you to do anything? Tried to get you to learn a skill? I’m pretty sure you did something like that last week.” Tony put on a little show, putting as much uncertainty into his voice, and even going as far as to tap his chin.
Thor thinks for a moment before his face lights up, “She showed me the uni-bike, er-half-cycle device.”
Tony of course fully remembered last week’s incident, as it is what ended with him needing this revenge. Nonetheless he acted surprised, “She must really like you!”
The blonde’s eyebrows furrowed as he tried to understand how the genius had came to that conclusion, “How do you know that?”
“I’ll let you in on a little earth custom,” Tony says leaning in, as if he were a thirteen year old telling his BFF some crazy gossip, “When a human likes someone, its custom they show them some skill, like-”
“Uni-bikiling?” Thor interrupts.
“Precisely. So the person must learn that skill to show they are an acceptable mate and want to enter a courtship with them,” Tony then leans back, smirking in satisfaction.
Thor’s face lit up brighter than the surface of the freaking sun, “So Lady (Y/N) wants to court me?” A nod from Tony made him nearly leap with joy, “I just need to learn half-cycling!” The thunder god didn’t even wait for Tony to respond, literally leaping off the couch with unbridled joy, before running down the hall to the elevator. Thor was ready to learn his skill, even if he didn’t quite know the name of it.
“Learn to juggle if you really want to impress her!” Tony yelled out as the elevator doors shut.
It only took two days of constant practice, missing meetings, asking Clint for a juggling lesson, and even missing movie night with you (You were gonna watch cheesy action movies) before he was finally prepared to show you.
“Miss (Y/L/N), your presence has been requested in the garage,” FRIDAY announced just as you finished getting ready to go to the gym for training with Steve.
“By who?” you ask putting a wrap on your ankle.
“Mr Odinson.”
“Tell him I’ll be down in a few minutes,” you reply distractedly as you quickly put up your hair, grabbed your gym bag, and leaving to meet Thor before training. It was likely that he was confused by something in the garage, some machine that Tony had lying around, and wanted you to explain it to him.
While you were calmly riding the elevator down, the blonde was pacing by the garage door leading out to the parking lot, anxiously awaiting your arrival. The moment the elevator doors opened, Thor was grabbing your hand and rapidly pulling you out the doors.
“Where are we going?” you ask, tripping over your feet as you try to keep up with the giant man dragging you along.
“It's a surprise,” he said quickly, before adding, “You should close your eyes.”
“Then how am I supposed to see?” you ask, ditching your gym bag as it is doing nothing but dragging you down.
Thor stopped in his tracks causing you to run into his hard and muscled back. You were chest to chest as Thor turned to look at you. A moment of frozen silence enveloped you two as you each admired the other for a moment. It took Thor literally shaking his head to get himself out of his stupor and pick you up bridal style, one hand under your knees, the other behind your back.
Your hands rested on his chest, trying to steady yourself. “Close your eyes,” he reminded you. You warily complied.
“What’s happening?” you ask, feeling your body bounce along with Thor’s long steps. Thor didn’t have time to answer you as you were quickly placed into a flimsy plastic chair.
“Keep them closed for just a moment longer,” Thor demanded before moving away from your sitting position, which you assumed was the far end of the compound’s parking lot.
You heard a rustling and Thor’s heavy steps, but nothing to give you a real idea of what you were about to experience.
“Open your eyes.”
When you did a moment later, you were met with a sight you had never expected to see. Thor, an ancient and noble god, was pedaling around on a unicycle (like a pro) while juggling four multi colored balls.
Your head fell back as laughter bursted from your lips. Thor immediately stopped at your reaction. He was performing your prefered skill before you, and he even added the juggling part! So why were you laughing and not jumping up to accept his courtship?
The laughter died as you looked up to see Thor coming off his unicycle with furrowed brows and hurt eyes. “No, Thor that was so good! It's just not what I expected!” you confessed trying to soothe him.
“I know I added the juggling part, but did I do the half-biking wrong? I worked so hard on it, I even watched the YouTube!”
Now you were even more lost than he was, “What?”
Even though he was trying to hide it, it was clear Thor was embarrassed as he began his explanation for his behavior over the past five or so minutes. “Tony told me of your courtship customs, so I did my best to master the unicycle. But it appears that I have failed.” Thor hung his head slightly, his long locks hiding his face from your gaze.
“Courtship,” you asked quietly. You almost felt more confused than before you had this weird explanation. “Are you asking me to date you?” you try your best to not let it show just how much you hope you’re assumption it right.
Thor shifts his gaze from the ground to you, his hands playing with the juggling balls still in his mammoth hands, “Yes,” he says more certain about this than anything else he has said all day.
A smile made its way to your lips as you stood from the plastic lawn chair. Your hands slightly shook as you took Thor’s face into your hands, his going to your hips, as you landed a light peck on his cheek. As you separate you look up to see Thor smiling down at you.
Inside the compound Tony has been watching the scene unfold on a video brought up by FRIDAY. “What are you watching?” Steve asks as he comes into the room.
Tony’s head whipped around with reflexes faster than Spiderman’s. “Nothing…” Tony trails quietly.
“Is that Thor and-?” Steve asks, getting closer to screen to see what was happening.
“No,” Tony interrupted, quickly turning off the live feed.
Steve puts on his disappointed and stern look, “What did you do? I told you to let them go at their own pace.”
Putting his hands up in a form of surrender, Tony did his best to defend himself, “I was just getting revenge for my dented car, and it just so happens that it killed two birds with one stone.”
Rolling his eyes, Steve sighs instead of replying continues on his path to the gym. He assumes he will be training solo today.

The Lighthouse (9/??)
Summary: The town is sleepy, the people are nice enough, but life gets turned upside-down when the God of Thunder literally falls out of the sky.
A/N: Hello, hello, time for more of our regularly scheduled Q+A where we ask some questions and get some answers, but never the ones we want. I swear we’re getting to the meat of things, but we have to go through all of this before we get to it, This being the filler stuff that happens before we can get to the real action. That being said, I’m really happy with what I’m putting out today, so please enjoy!

Tumblr media
"So…okay, so what you're saying is Asgard is gone, this Thanos guy attacked the ship, and you're the only one who got away?"
"Yes."
"But how?"
“What is it you humans say… a magician never reveals his tricks?”
I scowl. “You’re no magician, and that couldn’t have been a simple trick. How did you get away, if Heimdall didn’t send you himself?”
He sighs. “I used the Tesseract.”
“That stupid thing everyone was fighting over in New York all those years ago?”
“And here I was, thinking Earth had forgotten about that.”
“How could we forget an alien invasion?” I shake my head. “A literal alien invasion, and you just expect us to forget about it. Maybe you really are crazy.”
“Forget about New York for now. The Cube itself hides a very powerful object,” Loki explains. “It’s called the Space Stone, and it allows whoever wields it, provided they can withstand its power, to travel through space at will.”
“So you used it to get away before whatever happened messed with everyone’s heads?”
“Yes, but Heimdall was able to send one man off before anything happened.”
“Who?”
“Bruce Banner.”
“Wait, he was with you?”
“He was.”
“Then we have to get in contact with the Avengers!” I exclaim “If he’s earth-side, they would know.”
“Are you mad?” He shakes his head. “You can’t really believe they’d help, knowing that I have anything to do with this.”
“You didn’t cause this.”
“Not directly. But I’m involved.”
“So is Thor.”
“And so are you,” he says. “They don’t even know you.”
“I don’t know if that’ll work for us or against us in this situation.” I pause. “What the hell do you mean you aren’t directly involved? You were on that ship and you’re the only one who remembers what happened!”
“But it wasn’t my fault this time!”
“In what world does being involved mean that you’re at fault?” I shake my head and roll my eyes. “At any rate, any kind of alien anything falls under the purview of the Avengers.”
Loki scowls. “You’re not going to drop this.”
“Why would I?” I shake my head. “I said I’d help, and taking this to someone who actually can is obviously part of that.”
He rolls his eyes. “Fine.”
“(Y/N?)” Thor croaks.
I don’t hesitate in shuffling over to him. He reaches out to me and takes my face in his hands. His eyes are filled with tears and his face is red and splotchy. He looks me over, almost as if he’s trying to decide if I’m real.
“I’m here,” I murmur. “It’s okay to let go.”
His bottom lip wobbles and he gathers me up in his arms and carefully holds me to his chest. I manage to wriggle my arms out of his hold and wrap one around his shoulders. I comb my fingers through his hair and slowly rock him from side to side as his entire body begins to shake with the force of his sobs.
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” I whisper. “You’ve lost so much… I’m so sorry, Thor.”
“There was so much,” he whispers.
“I know.”
He balls up big handfuls of my shirt and takes a deep, shaking breath. I sit and hold him until he can calm down. Loki doesn't even shift from his spot behind me, but it does little to put me at ease.
"That was a lot to take in at once," I murmur. Thor nods against my shoulder and I kiss the side of his head. "How about we get you upstairs? You can get some rest and process what you saw."
"I don't know…"
"I'm sure Daisy could be persuaded to come cuddle with you."
"I…" he sighs. "Alright."
It takes a moment for him to haul himself to his feet, but he allows me to lead him towards the door. I can feel Loki's eyes on us the entire time and it makes my skin crawl.
Once out in the hall, I call out to Daisy and she comes bounding up the stairs.
"That's a good girl!" I pat her side and she brushes up against Thor's leg. "Upstairs, Daisy lady, let's go."
She turns and does as she's told. By the time Thor and I make it up the stairs, she's situated herself on top of the covers. Her eyebrows perk up when she sees us and her tail thumps against the duvet. Thor lowers himself to the edge of the bed and tugs me down into his lap. He wraps his arms around me and presses his nose to my shoulder. The angle is awkward and I can't embrace him the way I was able to earlier.
"I'm so sorry," he says.
"You have nothing to apologize for. You're overwhelmed and mourning a sister you never knew you had, your father, your home. I… I don't know how you're feeling, but I know that it's more than anyone should have to go through on their own."
"He told you?"
I nod. "Everything. I know what happened on Asgard and on that ship. I-I am so sorry, honey. I wish there had been a better way for you to find out."
"I needed to know."
"That's true, but," I lean away and push his hair out of his eyes. "I don't like seeing you in pain." He opens his mouth and I press my fingertips to his lips. "I know you were bound to get hurt at some point while we're together. I just didn't expect it to happen so soon and to feel so… so helpless when it did."
I press my lips together to stop myself from saying anything else. Thor opens his mouth, but thinks better of what he was going to say and simply repositions me so that I can actually hug him. He loops my arms around his shoulders and circles his around my middle. He kisses me in an attempt to reassure me and I rest my forehead against his when we pull away.
"I don't seek out pain," he says, carefully choosing his words. "But it always seems to find me. I've lost so much, just in the last few years. I don't want to lose you too. I don't want to drive you away with my past."
"You won't. We're partners in this relationship." I lean back to meet his eyes and smile. "That means a lot of things, and one of them is dealing with each other's crazy."
"My crazy far outweighs yours, (Y/N)."
I shrug. "Mine is getting up there. I mean, I live alone in a lighthouse, was magically prompted to wander out into the woods to find a god, promptly fell for said god, started learning magic and looking for his brother and then dragged him out of the house in the middle of the night to literally go dig him up."
Thor laughs. "Still."
"On a human level, all of that sounds absolutely nuts, no matter how you swing it."
He nods. "That's true."
I smile and peck him on the lips. "You need to rest."
"What will you do?"
"I have to keep an eye on Loki. He doesn't know where he is. I'm sure he has questions."
"I don't know how I feel about you being alone with him."
"I'm not helpless."
"He has a silver tongue and he's manipulative. As much as I care about my brother, I know that he's not exactly trustworthy."
"Okay," I get to my feet and silently coax Thor into laying down. "If anything, and I mean anything weird happens, I'll come get you immediately."
He sighs and scrubs his hands over his face. "I don't know-"
"Thor, I'm an inch away from knocking you out myself." I pull the blankets up to his chin when he protests again and direct Daisy to lay across his chest. He shakes his head and tries to hide his smile. "Sleep. We'll be here when you're ready."
"Alright."
"Okay."
I stoop down and kiss his forehead before leaving the room.
When I return to the bedroom, Loki is exactly where I left him. I lean in the doorway and fold my arms.
“You hungry?” I ask.
His head shoots up. “What?”
I jerk my head towards the hallway. “Come on. I’ll make us some tea.”
He follows me downstairs and hovers while I put the kettle on and place peppermint tea sachets in mugs. I catch him folding his arms and glancing around out of the corner of my eye.
“Spit it out,” I say.
“What?”
“I can see that you want to say something.” I turn and lean against the counter. “So say it.”
His brow furrows. “You really care about him.”
“He’s my partner. Of course I care about him.”
“I see.”
“What’s your problem with me, anyway?” I tilt my head to the side. “Is it because I’m human?”
“Partially.”
“And the rest?”
“I don’t want to see him hurt.”
“I’m sure it wouldn’t be the first time you’ve seen it.” He scowls. “I’m not with him because he’s a god. Thor is a good man. He’s kind and intelligent and gentle. Most of all, he’s patient with me.”
Loki snorts. “The last thing I’d associate with my brother is patience.”
“I can’t say he’s patient in the day to day. I mean, everything is so fragile and fleeting on our planet, it’s easy to get frustrated. But, he’s patient with me.” I shake my head. “I don’t see why you’d be worried about him, though. From what I know about you, you’re not particularly concerned with that sort of thing.”
“I’m allowed the occasional change of heart, am I not?”
“I don’t know.” The kettle comes to a boil and I wait for the bubbles to calm before pouring water into each mug. “Are you?”
He stares me down and only answers when I hand him his mug.
"I'm not sure," he admits. "It's something I'm still sorting out for myself."
"I see. Well, I guess that's all I can ask of you, right? A little introspection never hurt anyone."
He falls silent and I take that time to drain the sachet and add a packet of sweetener to my tea. I blow across the surface of the tea before taking a sip and immediately regretting it. I ask him if he takes any sweetener in his tea and he shakes his head.
“I wonder if I might ask a few questions,” he says.
“Such as?”
“Where are we?”
“A little no-name town on an inlet in Maine.” I lead him to the living room and gesture to the stairs. “I live in and operate the lighthouse.”
“And you truly speak with Heimdall?”
“Mhm.” Charles jumps up into my lap when I sit on the couch. He places his paws on my chest and tries to put his face in my tea. “Not for you, bud. It’s hot.”
He tried again and I pushed him off. He made a little indignant noise and nosed at my hand.
“Who’s this?” Loki asks.
“This is Charles.” Charles doesn’t take his eyes off the mug and I sigh. “You can’t have the tea, dude. What kind of mother would I be if I let you burn yourself?”
“He seems like a handful.”
“Believe it or not, the handful is curled up with your brother upstairs.” I scowl at Charles. “Would you just sit down?”
I set the mug on the end table and scratch up and down his sides. His back arches and he rubs his face against my cheeks. I scrunch up my face and wait till he’s finished. He eventually settles in my lap and I sigh and grab my tea.
“You can take a seat too,” I say, gesturing for Loki to sit.
He sits on the opposite end of the couch and sips his tea. “You said something about someone with Thor?”
“Right. My dog, Daisy, is keeping him company.” I laugh when his brows pinch together. “He’s her absolute best friend. She follows him all around the house.”
“I see.”
“Sorry, I didn’t answer your question earlier.” I took a big gulp of my cooling tea and set it to the side. “Yes, I do talk to Heimdall. I’m the only one who he’s been able to contact since Thor crash landed a few months back.”
“Odd.” He leans forward and tilts his head to the side. “And how did you discover your magic?”
“My family has a history with magic. My father said an aunt of mine actually had magic and he kept a set of protection runes around in case we needed them. Heimdall theorized that my magic is the reason he was able to contact me and no one else.”
Loki hums. “I see.”
“Heimdall did what he could to teach me how to control it, but magic for me is, I don’t know…” I gesture vaguely. “Kind of just this amorphous blob?”
“Then how do you contain it?”
“How do you mean?”
“Magic isn’t just something that you call on whenever you please, it’s all around you. How do you contain it?”
“Oh, uh…” I shrug. “It’s always just there. I used to get really tired when I tried to cast something, but it’s gotten easier.”
“Explain.”
“I was pulled into some kind of pocket where I was able to see Heimdall. He and I were able to work together to make a kind of magic circuit in order for him and Thor to speak. I practically fainted when that happened, but in the weeks it took to find you I was fine by comparison.”
His jaw clenches, but he simply nods and sips at his tea.
We sit in silence while we finish our drinks. Loki wanders back upstairs to the bedroom he woke up in and I start on making the shepherd’s pie I had planned for dinner. Once it’s in the oven, I go back to my office and finish what I can of the work I had been pulled away from when Loki woke earlier.
The smell of baking cheese eventually draws Loki out into the stairwell and he creeps down to the kitchen when I tell him dinner was ready. He disappears into his room as soon as he clears his plate. While packing up leftovers, I consider leaving out a portion for Thor, but decide against it. If he didn’t wake up for dinner, chances are slim that he’ll wake up for it later. Instead, I put the leftovers in the fridge and go upstairs to get ready for bed.
About an hour later, I crawl into bed and Thor rolls over and wraps his arms around me. With my back against his chest, I grab his hand and kiss his knuckles before settling against him. Charles curls up against my stomach and I eventually doze off.

“How did you know where he was?”
I shrug and grab the cereal from the cupboard. “I heard a voice that told me to get up and when to stop driving. Everything else was just a gut feeling.”
“Was it Heimdall?” Thor asks.
“No, he said as much last night. But he heard the voice too.”
Thor sets bowls on the table and moves to get spoons. “Did he feel the same pull?”
“I don’t think so.” I grab the milk and take a seat at the table. “He didn’t seem to feel any compulsion.”
“But he was much further away from Loki’s location than you were.” Thor sits and pours himself a bowl of cereal. “It would make sense that you were the one guided to Loki’s location.”
I laugh. “I don’t know if I’d say I was guided. It was more like being dragged along behind a horse. I didn’t know exactly what was going to happen until the end. Even then, it wasn’t exactly pretty.”
He hums. “You did scare me half to death.”
I nodded. “I know, and I really am sorry about that.”
“I know you are.” He shoots me a reassuring smile. “You don’t have to apologize anymore, (Y/N). I understand why you kept it from me.”
“I know. I just still feel bad about the whole thing.”
“I know.”
We eat in silence and I nearly doze off at one point, but Thor reaches across the table and takes my hand. I shake my head and squeeze his hand before going back to my cereal. Thor finishes before me and waits till I’m done before taking my bowl and doing the dishes.
“When do you think he’ll wake?” Thor muses.
“I’m not sure. It took him weeks to crash land, and even then he showed up weeks after I found you.” I shrug. “I’m not even sure he showed up in the same fashion as you did.”
“Oh?”
“Heimdall and I were talking about why he bounced around so much while we were looking for him. My guess is that, whatever it was that messed with your memories, might’ve knocked him off course when Heimdall sent him away.”
“What does Heimdall think?”
“Heimdall doesn’t really have much to go off either. Everyone that I’m in contact with is just as informed as I am, which is to say, we know jack shit about the situation right now. But, if this is anything like when I found you, then it might be a few days till he starts to wake up. I had you here two before you woke up, but I don’t know how long you were out in those woods before I found you.”
Thor nods. “Then we can only hope that he’ll wake soon.”
“Mhm.”
“Do you have any plans for the day?”
“Just working. New assignments have come in and we slept through most of the day, so I’m getting a late start.”
“Ah, sorry.”
“It’s no big deal, we both needed the rest.” I get up from the table and move across the room to kiss his cheek. “If you’ve got any ideas for dinner, let me know, okay?”
“Of course.” He smiles and gestures for me to go. “I’ll come get you for a break in a few hours.”
I grin and head for the stairs. “I’ll look forward to it.”
Tumblr media
Thor quietly slips into my office and slits on the floor beside me. Daisy trails in shortly after and plops down beside him. She huffs when he doesn’t immediately scratch her ears.
“I take it you checked on Loki, then?” I ask, not looking away from my work.
“Yes.”
“Any updates?”
He shakes his head and rests his forehead on my thigh. He sighs when I comb my fingers through his hair. “Nothing so far.”
“I’m sorry.”
“He hasn’t even moved.” His shoulders slump and he leans a little more heavily against me. “It’s only been two days, but I can’t help being impatient.”
“I know. You’re worried about your brother. It’s only natural.”
“It’s strange, though,” he says. “He and I have always been at odds. We’ve fought countless times, but I’ve watched him die twice. I’ve had to mourn his loss twice. I’m not sure that I can go through that a third time.”
I push away from the desk slightly and take his face in my hands. “I’m sure that everything will be fine. He was out there for a long time, and we don’t know what kind of energy he expended.”
“Right.” He covers one of my hands with his. “I’m sure he just needs to rest.”
“He’s strong, Thor. I’m sure he’ll be up before we know it.”
“Thank you, (Y/N).”
“It’s nothing to thank me for.”
“You sell yourself so short,” he says softly. “I’ll make you recognize how wonderful you are one day.”
“Thor…”
He smiles. “But that won’t be today.” He hauls himself up from the floor. “I’ve distracted you for long enough, I’ll let you get back to work.”
“I’ll be done in half an hour. We can talk more then, if you want?”
He stoops down and kisses my forehead. “I’d like that.”
Thor pats his leg to get Daisy’s attention and gestures for her to follow him out of the room. She shoots me a tired look and I laugh as she trots out to the stairs after Thor. I do my best to finish with work, but it takes fifteen minutes longer than I initially expected. When I finally manage to make it downstairs, I collapse on the couch beside Thor.
“I had to talk them out of concussion induced pyrokinesis,” I mutter.
“I have no idea what that means,” Thor says.
I scrub my hands over my face and curl into his side. “Because it’s something that shouldn’t reasonably exist, even in fiction.”
He laughs. “Did you succeed?”
“Eventually. I just have to hope they don’t try to sneak it in somewhere else later on.”
“I’m sure you’ll prevail in the end.”
I shake my head. “I appreciate your optimism.”
He hums and kisses the top of my head. “We should talk.”
“I agree.”
“I don’t want to force anything on you,” he says. “We kissed two nights ago, but that doesn’t have to mean anything.”
“I think it should. After the time we’ve spent together and what we’ve been through, I know that it’s not just some schoolgirl crush. I actually like you. Especially when I get to think for myself about it.” His brow furrows. “Heimdall likes to meddle sometimes. But no one’s had to convince me that I like you.”
He smiles. “It looks like our roles have switched, doesn’t it?”
“It certainly does.” I take his hand. “But I meant what I said that night. My feelings for you are real. I’m not going to be shy about it, especially when I’m this comfortable with you.”
He sighs softly. “I’m glad to hear you say that.”
I reach up and brush my fingers over his cheek. “You said I was wonderful earlier, but I don’t get how you can’t see how much light you put out into the world.”
“Maybe it’s just reflected back at me,” he offers.
“If that’s the case, then maybe I need to put you in front of a mirror. Reflect some of that energy directly back into you.” I push myself up from the couch and attempt to drag Thor up with me. “Come on. I’m hungry and I think we’ve still got stroganoff leftovers in the fridge.”
He laughs and allows himself to be led into the kitchen. “Do you always think with your stomach?”
“Not always, but you’re certainly one to talk!” Thor tries to look offended, but only succeeds in making himself laugh harder. “Your appetite is astounding.”
“I am a big man, (Y/N),” he says. “And beyond that, I am a god. Sometimes I need to eat more than a human does.”
“I know,” I dig around in the fridge for the leftovers. “I’m just poking a little fun.”
I glance back and find him leaning against the counter, arms folded, small smile playing at his lips. “I know you are.”
I pull the leftovers from the fridge. “You wanna try this the way my grandfather liked to eat it?”
Tumblr media
Walking past Loki’s room a couple of days later, I heard a quiet shuffling. Thor hadn’t mentioned any kind of change in his brother when we talked earlier, so I open the door just a crack and peek inside.
Loki is sitting up in bed, rubbing his eyes. I almost step into the room, but I stop myself short, realizing that he doesn’t know me. I don’t want him to panic and not have any way to calm him down.
Instead, I run out to the back yard to let Thor know that Loki is awake.
“What?” he yells back.
“He’s awake!” I holler. “Come inside, I’m gonna need your help!”
He calls out his confirmation and I head back inside. I grab a glass of water for Loki before I go back upstairs and very, very slowly open the door.
He sits with his head in his hands, and I can’t tell if he’s heard me come in. I gently knock on the door to get his attention and his head jerks up at the sound. I wave and step into the room.
“It’s good to see you awake,” I say. “We were starting to think you’d be out forever.”
“What?”
“We found you almost five days ago.” I cross the room to hand him the glass of water. “You didn’t even move until today, I don’t think.”
“Who is ‘we’?” he asks.
“It’s just Thor and I.”
“Thor?” He perks up slightly.
“Yeah, he should be here soon.”
“Where is he?” He shoots up from the bed and I stumble back when he reaches out for me. “Tell me, woman!”
I drop the water and throw my hands up to shield myself. Loki never makes contact, and it takes a moment for me to realize that there’s a semi-visible barrier between us. I stare at my hands, surprised.
“Where is my Brother!” Loki yells.
He pounds against the shield and I stumble over my own feet and fall to the floor. The shield flickers briefly, but I manage to hold it steady. This only serves to further infuriate him and I cringe each time he slams his fists against the shield.
“Heimdall, what do I do?!”
“Hold the shield and wait for Thor.”
“That’s it?!”
“What is it that you expect me to do, (Y/N)?”
“I don’t know, I’m freaking out, here!” I yell for Thor, and hope that he can hear me. “Stop punching the shield, you’re just gonna wind up hurting yourself!”
“Drop the shield, and I’ll show you just what the meaning of hurt is,” Loki hisses.
“You know what, I don’t really like the sound of that.”
He pushes harder, and I can feel the shield straining under my hold. I can faintly hear Thor’s heavy footsteps in the stairwell, and I push all that I can into maintaining the shield. Just as cracks start to spiderweb across the surface,Thor steps into the room. Loki sees him and stops his assault against my magic, relaxing enough that I can let the shield go. I lie back on the floor, one arm flung over my face, taking deep heaving breaths.
“(Y/N), are you alright?” Thor asks.
I nod and point at Loki. “Put him in a bubble till you could get here.”
“You put him in a bubble?!”
“He moved faster than I expected. It was the first thing that popped into my head.”
“Why are you on the floor?”
“He punched the shield and startled me.”
I hear him shift towards his brother. “You tried to attack her?!”
“You say that as if I’m supposed to know who she is or where I am.”
“You shouldn’t have to know someone to know not to attack them.” Thor crouches down beside me and helps me sit up. “I’m sorry, (Y/N).”
“It’s fine, he doesn’t know where he is.” I feel Loki’s eyes on me and I glance up at him. “What?”
Loki snorts and turns his attention to Thor. “Really, brother? Another human?”
“Excuse me? You’re in my house, in my bed. If it weren’t for this human, you’d probably be choking on sand right about now.”
Loki’s brows pull together and he looks to his brother for confirmation. Thor just nods.
He looks at me with an almost pained expression. “Well then. I apologize.”
“Good.”
He nods and immediately frowns when his hand makes contact with his chest. He pinches the fabric between his fingers and pulls it away from his body.
“What in Odin’s name am I wearing?”
“My clothes,” Thor says.
“Your clothes?”
I lift my hand. “I made them smaller. They’re clean, I promise.”
“You?”
“Yeah, the magic was relatively easy compared to what I was doing to track you down.”
He blinks rapidly, looking genuinely surprised. “And how did you learn this magic?”
“It’s a bit convoluted,” I explain. “Heimdall did what he could to help, but I essentially just had to force the magic to do what I wanted.”
"And you've been privy to this training with Heimdall, have you, brother?"
"As much as I can be," Thor says. "I've only been able to speak with Heimdall once since I arrived, and it's solely because (Y/N) acted as a bridge."
Loki scowls, unsatisfied with the answer. "Explain. Now."
Thor obliges and explains everything. I occasionally interject, filling in anything that Thor misses.
“Why would you spend all that energy on finding me, though?”
“(Y/N) believes that you may hold the key to understanding what happened to us,” Thor says. “Our memories were tampered with, and you’re the only person I can think of who wasn’t accounted for.”
“I see...” Loki stroked his chin. “And you truly remember nothing?”
“Have I any reason to lie to you, brother?”
“Of course not.”
“Do you remember anything?” I ask.
“Everything, actually.”
“I-really?”
“Yes. I believe that I can restore Thor’s memories as well, but it won’t be pleasant.”
“Do it,” Thor says. “I need to know what happened.”
“Hold on a moment,” I say. “How do we know you won’t just make things worse?”
“Why would I do that? He’s dumb enough as is. If anything, this would be an improvement.” I glare at him and he lifts his hands in surrender. “I don’t want to make things worse. Just to share the knowledge.”
“Fine.”
Loki shuffles closer to Thor and places his hands on either side of his face. Only when Thor nods does he close his eyes. The familiar hum of magic fills the room, but it's different from when I cast. The sound is concentrated near Loki's hands, and I can only assume that it's because he's far more skilled than I am that the sound doesn't fill the entire room.
The magic courses through Thor's body and I nearly lurch forward when his spine goes rigid. I stop myself halfway when I realize that whatever Loki's doing to restore his memories will most likely drain him of whatever energy he previously had. I sit back and fold my hands in my lap and force myself to just sit and watch. I have to remind myself to stay put when Thor begins to make small pained noises. He wanted to go through with it, and interrupting the spell could be dangerous.
Loki's eyes snap open with a flash of green light before his hands fall away from Thor's face. Thor's shoulders relax momentarily as he slowly remembers where he is, and he recoils and scrambles away from his brother. My first instinct is to move to help him, but when I reach out to him and he flinches away from my touch, I start to worry.
"He's in shock," Loki says. "Barely anything that he saw was happy. In spite of how optimistic he is most of the time, he’s experienced many hardships, as of late."
"Tell me what happened on that ship." He hesitates and I frown. "How am I supposed to help if I don't know what happened?"
"You truly want to help?"
"Of course I do."
"You know what we are. Do you understand the dangers that follow us?"
"I'm well aware of the trouble you get yourselves into."
"I see." He sighs and shifts uncomfortably on the carpet. "I'll tell you what happened, then."

Part 6
Tumblr media
“Get up.”
“Heimdall?”
“It wasn’t me, (Y/N). But I heard it too.”
“Wha-?” A sharp energy jolts through my body and I sit bolt upright in bed. “Loki.”
“Yes.”
“Heimdall, is he on Earth?”
“As far as I can tell, yes. But you knew that already.”
I nod and throw the covers back. I yank on a pair of jeans and tug a sweatshirt over my head as I stumble out onto the stairs. Charles tries to follow me and I shoo him back up to my room and tell him to stay put. He blinks slowly and curls up under my comforter instead of following me back out into the stairwell.
“Where are you going?”
“Gotta grab Thor.” I slip into Thor’s room and gently shake his shoulder. “Get up.”
“Wha-?”
“Get up,” I repeat. I throw his pants from the day before into his lap. “Gotta go.”
“What’s going on?”
“Massive breakthrough,” I say. I shake my head and move back to the stairs. “Meet me downstairs, We gotta go as soon as you’re ready.”
“What time is it?” he asks, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
I pause, trying to remember if I checked. Eventually, I shake my head. “No clue. Just get downstairs.”
I hurtle down the stairs and grab my bag from the chair in the entryway. I walk through the kitchen and grab my cell phone from the counter and a huge flashlight from under the sink.
“Do you have any idea of where he is?”
“Somewhere along the beach, I think,” I mutter. “Maybe I should grab a tarp…”
I moved out to the carport and tossed my bag into the truck before shuffling around in the bed to make sure I had everything I’d need.
“How will you find him?”
“Drive until I get the same feeling I had when I got up, run down to the beach, and wander around till I find him. Easy.” I glance up just in time to see Thor stumbling into the kitchen.
“Just be careful.”
“I will.” I open the door to the kitchen and gesture for Thor to come out to the car. “We have to go.”
Thor sighs and joins me outside. Once he’s in the car, I climb in and we immediately head south.
“Where are we going?” Thor asks.
I shake my head. “I don’t know, we just have to drive until I know to stop.”
“I don’t much like the sound of that.”
“I know. It’s not my best line.” I turn out onto the highway that follows the beach. “Please be patient with me.”
Thor frowns but nods and folds his hands in his lap. He doesn’t say anything else for nearly ten minutes and when he does, he simply wants to make sure that I’m alright.
“You don’t seem yourself.”
“I know.”
“Slow down.”
I hum softly and slowly ease my foot off the gas. Several cars scream past, honking as the drivers move into the other lane and flip me off before cutting in front of me and speeding away. I don’t pay them any mind and keep my eyes trained on the beach, waiting for any indication that I’m getting close to our destination. I glance over at Thor after each car passes us and he sits, stock straight, gripping his knees till his knuckles are almost completely white.
“(Y/N), what are you doing?!” he hisses.
“We’re almost there, I think,” I mutter. I shake my head. “Not yet, though.”
“You’re not making any sense!”
“Yeah.”
“Close.”
“We’re close.” My stomach clenches and I know exactly where we need to go. “We’re really close.”
“To what.”
I don’t answer him and it only serves to make him more uneasy. As we reach another mile marker, I slow considerably. Only when I see the next picnic area, I pull off the road and stop the car.
“Where are we?”
“Dad and I used to come here all the time.” I grab my bag and hop out of the truck. “Is this seriously the place?”
I look up and down the highway and bolt across the asphalt when I’m sure I won’t get run over. Thor yells after me and I just gesture for him to follow me. He groans and lumbers after me and does his best to keep his balance as he jogs after me into the sand.
I dig the flashlight out of my bag and start scanning the beach for anything out of place. There’s more driftwood scattered along this stretch than the last time I was here. I shake my head and push onward.
“I know you said we’d go to the beach,” Thor says. “But this isn’t exactly what I’d pictured.”
“This isn’t that, I promise.”
“Then what is it?”
“I just have to find him,” I answer. “He’s around here somewhere. I can feel it in my gut.”
“Who?” Thor asks. “Who are we supposed to be looking for?”
When I don’t answer, Thor grabs my shoulders and turns me to face him.
“Let go of me, Thor.”
“No, (Y/N), you’re not making any sense!”
“Look, I know that. I just need you to trust me for ten more minutes,” I plead. “Just let me go, and you’ll get answers.”
He frowns, and his shoulders sag. His hands fall to his sides and I nod to him and resume the search.
I gasp when I see a massive pile of sand about ten yards down the beach. I wave to get Thor’s attention before running off towards the mound of sand. Thor readily follows after me.
I drop to my knees and toss the flashlight to the side, and immediately start shoveling sand away from the mound with my hands. Thor moves to the other side of the mound and shoves sand away in an attempt to help. I pause and mutter an apology and he briefly meets my eyes, confused. I shake my head and keep digging away and, eventually, my hands meet leather. My eyes go wide and I frantically follow the lines of the fabric up to a pale neck. I lift one trembling hand to brush sand away from their face.
“Please don’t hate me,” I say softly.
“What?”
I grab the flashlight and shine it over the limp figure. Their sharp features become more and more defined as sand is cleared from their head. From what I remember of footage from the New York incident, this is very clearly Loki. My anxiety eases and I let out a relieved sign. Thor sucks in a sharp breath as I press my fingers to Loki’s pulse point. His heartbeat is faint, but nothing to worry about.
“I’m sorry, Thor.”
“You didn’t tell me,” he mumbles.
“I couldn’t.”
“He is my brother.”
I nod and Thor hooks his hands under Loki’s arms and drags him out of the mound of sand. I push myself to my feet and watch Thor toss his brother over his shoulder. I lead the way back to the truck and Thor places Loki in the bed. I do my best to avoid any potholes and take corners very slowly to assure that Loki doesn’t get shaken around any more than I’m sure he already has. We sit quietly in the truck for a moment once we’re parked. Thor opens his mouth like he wants to say something, but closes it instead and gets out of the truck.
Thor carries his brother up to the bathroom and I help him clean Loki up as best I can. I grab clean clothes from the laundry and force magic into them, changing their size to fit Loki. I take them up to Thor and he raises his eyebrows.
“Are these mine?”
I nod. “I changed the size. They should fit him just fine.”
“Alright.”
I wait downstairs while Thor changes his brother into the clean clothes and puts him to bed. I press my fist to my mouth and pace in front of the couch, trying to figure out how to explain myself to Thor. I kept this secret from him for over a week and he was so hurt when he realized I lied to him. I shake my head, sigh, and drop down onto the couch. Thor joins me downstairs and he takes a seat beside me.
“He’s settled,” he says softly. “All we can do now is wait till he wakes.”
“I’m sure he’ll be up before you know it.”
He hums. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to get your hopes up. There was no way to know if we’d actually find him.”
“So Heimdall was in on this?” I nod and he scowls. “How long have you been hiding this from me?”
I shrink away from him. “A little more than a week.”
“Wh-You really kept this from me for more than a week?” He shoots up from the couch and I sink back against the cushions. “You mean to tell me that I’ve been sitting on my ass while you’ve been sneaking around behind my back to search for my brother?”
“Basically.”
“Did you even take that day off?”
”Kind of.”
“What do you mean ‘kind of’?”
“I tried and got bored and needed to do something productive.”
“You had personal projects!”
“Hobbies.”
“Who’s to say hobbies can’t be productive?”
I sigh and scrub my hands over my face. “I fucked up, I know that, Thor. I just didn’t know if or when I’d be able to find him. He was ping ponging through the universe up until two days ago. There was no way to know how long it’d take for him to get close enough to our solar system. When I knew where he was, I just knew. I had a feeling and I had to get up and go and find him.”
“Do you not trust me?”
“I trust you more than anyone else, but the last thing I want to do is hurt you.”
He stops his pacing and turns to look at me. I prop my head up on my first and meet his gaze. His eyes flit over me, but I can't find the energy to be anxious about it. My eyes follow him as he approaches and crouches in front of me. He looks me over and I suddenly want to disappear.
“You’re exhausted,” he says. I nod and he envelopes my hand in both of his. “You’ve used too much magic.”
“Probably.”
“You didn’t need to.”
“You were worried about him.”
“(Y/N)...”
“And what if he can help fill in the gaps?” I ask. “Wouldn’t it be worth it? To have him safe, and to know what happened?”
“Not at the expense of your life.” He runs the back of his fingers over my cheek. “You mean too much to me to lose you.”
I sigh and lean into his touch when he cups my jaw. “And you mean too much to me to do nothing.”
His brows pull together and I lean forward to rest my forehead against his. He squeezes my hand and holds our joined hands to his chest.
“I understand. I just worry.”
“I know, I’m human. But I’m going to do what I can for you while I can.”
“What’s the point of that if you die?”
“Maybe I could die, but I’m getting stronger, just like I said I would. You don’t have to protect me from myself.”
“I just wish you’d slow down.”
“I can do that.”
“Thank you.”
I shift closer and brush my nose against his. He sighs softly and his breath fans out across my lips.
"Is it… can I-" I cut myself off, unable to find the right words.
“What is it?”
I shake my head. “It’s nothing. I think I’m just tired.”
“Is that it?”
“I-no.” I squeeze his hand and lean back to look at him. I sigh quietly. “Thor, I really like you.”
He smiles and the corners of his eyes crinkle. He reaches out and takes my face in his hand. “My feelings for you have not changed.”
I turn my head slightly to kiss the palm of his hand and Thor runs his thumb over my cheek. I cover his hand with mine and sigh. My eyes flit over his face and linger on his lips for a moment before flicking back up to meet his gaze.
"May I kiss you?" Thor asks. “Do you want me to kiss you?”
I nod and he closes the distance between us, tilts his head to the side, and gently presses his lips to mine. I relax against him and kiss him back before pulling away briefly and quickly kissing him once more.
"We should probably get some sleep," I murmur.
Thor nods. "I'll take the couch, seeing as Loki is in my bed."
“You don’t have to.” His brows pull together in confusion. “You could just share with me.”
“I don’t know,” he says. “We’ve already pushed so many boundaries you’ve set tonight-”
“This isn’t pushing boundaries. I’m just saying that there’s no reason you should sleep on a couch you’re gonna get stuck to after ten minutes when there’s a perfectly good bed upstairs.”
“(Y/N)...” He bites the inside of his cheek. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
The corner of his mouth quirks up into a smile. “Alright.”
I smile and climb up from the couch and lead Thor up the stairs. Daisy is lying outside my door and her tail starts wagging when she sees us. I crouch down and scratch behind her ears before pushing open my bedroom door. Daisy follows Thor and I into the room and waits patiently while I scoop up Charles and pull back the covers. Thor and I climb into bed and Charles wriggles out of my arms and curls up close to my chest when I turn on my side.
Thor hesitantly rests his hand on my hip but, when I move his hand to my stomach, he shuffles closer and pulls me against his chest.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” I murmur. “I should’ve just let you know from the start.”
“I understand why you didn’t,” he says. “I get very… emotional when it comes to my family. But thank you.”
I relax against him and my body steadily grows heavier. Charles moves closer to my chest and bumps his nose against my chin before curling up and purring quietly.
“I promise I’ll talk to you next time I’m planning something,” I say. Thor kisses the back of my neck and I slowly begin to drift off. “I promise…”

Part 5
Tumblr media
“You seem more confident today.”
“Can we not talk about that right now?” I ask. “Trying to do magic with your instruction is hard, but it’s nigh unto impossible with you commenting on irrelevant stuff.”
“You’ve improved immensely over the last week, and I’d hardly say it’s irrelevant.”
“I don’t think confidence has anything to do with it,” I mutter.
“Then what is it?”
“We need to find Loki and I don’t want to scare Thor again if I have to use magic.” I shake my head and forget trying to focus on the spell. “The fact that I can even do magic still blows my mind. There’s still a lot that I have to process on top of all of trying to train with you.”
“What makes you think you need to find Loki?”
“You don’t know where he is and Thor’s worried about him. I’d say that’s cause enough to want to find him.”
“You really care about him.”
“Of course I do.” I shake my head and flop down on my bed. “Of course I do. I thought that was obvious.”
“To you, perhaps.”
I scowl. "Am I not allowed to experience my feelings privately? I've barely had time to process the fact that an actual god seems to have a crush on me, let alone sift through my own feelings on the matter."
“I’d say you’ve had a fair amount of time.”
“I’ve had barely more than a week. I don’t think you understand the kind of brain power it takes to even contemplate Thor wanting me.” My face flushes and I cover my cheeks with my hands. “I don’t want to process that right now. I just want to finish my projects and keep going with these lessons so I can be more helpful.”
"I think you're mistaken to believe that you're not helpful, (Y/N). You've done more for all of us than we'd have been able to accomplish on our own."
"But I've got all this… this energy inside of me. I want to understand it. I want to use it. Maybe if I can, we'll be able to find Loki."
"You're not going to drop that, are you?"
"Not a chance. I have a gut feeling that he'll be able to help us."
"How?"
"I don't know, it's just a feeling. But I want to act on it before that feeling goes away."
Thor knocks on the door frame and pokes his head into the room. "Am I interrupting?"
I smile at him and shake my head. "Nah. What's up?"
"I was hoping I could start on dinner."
"Oh?"
"I'd prefer to do so with supervision," he explains. "I'm sure I can do it, but I'd rather not burn down the house."
I laugh. "I'll be right down."
“Thank you.” He grins and disappears out into the stairwell.
“You still there, Heimdall?”
“Yes.”
“We’re going to revisit this Loki thing tomorrow,” I say. “This is non-negotiable”
“Fine. I’ll make preparations.”
“Thank you.” I haul myself up from my bed and head for the stairs. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go make sure he boils the pasta instead of setting it on fire.”
Tumblr media
I kiss Thor’s cheek as he dishes up the spaghetti. “Thanks for cooking tonight.”
His grin lights up his face. “Happy to. Though I must thank you for your help. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
“I’m sure you could’ve figured it out..” He raises his eyebrows and I laugh. “Maybe not just yet, but I’m sure you’ll get it eventually.”
“With you as a teacher, I’m sure I will.”
“Aw, you’re sweet.”
He hands me my dinner and dishes up his own. Thor watches in confusion when I move to the living room instead of sitting at the kitchen table. I gesture for him to follow me and he does so with some reluctance..
“What are you doing?” he asks.
“Look, I’ve been proper as long as I can manage it,” I plop down on the couch and pull my legs up onto the cushions as I pat the space beside me. “But right now, I just want to eat dinner on the couch.”
The cushions dip as Thor takes his seat and I tip to the side and fall against him. He looks concerned until I laugh and right myself enough that I can sit up, but my arm is still pressed against his. I jokingly jab his side with my elbow and he laughs. We eat in silence, occasionally having to fend off Daisy when she comes begging and Charles when he tries to stick his little paws in our pasta.
Daisy eventually manages to distract Charles long enough that he decides playing with her is better than getting marinara sauce on his paws. I sigh in relief and lean heavily against Thor and he hums softly.
"How is your training going?" he asks.
I shrug. "It's alright. Way more exhausting than my day job, but I think we're starting to see some improvement?"
“I had a feeling you’d be a quick study.”
“Really?”
He shrugs. “You’re a very determined person. It doesn’t surprise me that you’d apply that determination to everything that you take on.”
"O-oh," I say dumbly.
"What is it?"
"I guess I just didn't expect you to make that kind of assessment."
"I may not be able to cook, but I'm not stupid, (Y/N)," he jokes.
"No, I know you're not. I just mean that I sometimes forget that you pay attention to me. Being known like that is… it's nice." I look up at him and smile. "It's really nice."
"I want to know everything about you, eventually," he says softly. "If you'll allow it."
“Of course. But only if you’ll allow the same.”
The corner of his mouth ticked up into a small smile. “I’d warn you against it, but I know you’re well aware of how  much there is to know.”
I nod. “Yeah, I know. But, like you said, I’m a very determined person.”
He laughs. “Yes, I know you are.”
I smile at him and wipe a bit of marinara sauce from the corner of my mouth with my thumb.
We finish dinner and do the dishes. Thor tries to start a water fight and I grab his wrists and he allows me to hold his hands to his chest.
“You’re cute, but I’m not gonna do this with you tonight.”
He cocks an eyebrow. “Perhaps a different night?”
I shake my head, unable to stop myself from smiling. “More like never. Maybe we go to the beach next week or something. Make a day of it.”
“(Y/N), are you asking me on a date?”
“I’m asking you to go to the beach with me,” I poke his chest. “Anything that happens after that is unplanned and spontaneous.”
“Spontaneity isn’t really your thing.”
“It is sometimes.” I place the bowls into the dishwasher. “Infrequently, but sometimes.”
“Alright,” he says softly. “We’ll go to the beach.”
I smiled up at him. "Cool."
We finish with the dishes and round up Charles and Daisy to cuddle while we read on the couch. Daisy has a hard time staying put and Thor moves to the floor where she flops down in his lap. I lay on the couch and Charles curls up on my stomach. I doze off with my book on my chest and Thor gently shakes me awake.
We say goodnight and I kiss his cheek before heading upstairs to get ready for bed. I turn back to look at him and find him sitting on the couch with pink cheeks and a lopsided smile, gently touching his cheek. I smile and my heart flutters at the sight. I duck into the bathroom before he can catch me staring.
Tumblr media
"I am not sure you’re ready for the magic it will take to find Loki."
"I mean, it's gonna have to be a sheer force of will type of magic, right? Based on what I know about my magic, spells aren't really my thing. Maybe I can work up to finding him by finding little things first."
"That could work… though I wish there were an easier way to focus your power. Compacting magic and forcing it to do what you want can be very dangerous."
"Then I'll practice outside."
“You’re not going to let go of this, are you?”
“I told you yesterday that this was non-negotiable. We’re finding him and that’s that.”
Heimdall sighs audibly and I know that I’ve won. “Fine. You will not tell Thor about this until we have his location.”
“Obviously not. I don’t want to get his hopes up.”
I head downstairs and Thor pokes his head into the kitchen when I reach for the door.
“Where are you off to?” he asks.
“Working on bigger magic today. I can’t really use spells so I kind of have to force the magic to do what I want which is,” I mime an explosion. “Explosive.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, don’t really want to blow up the house.”
He laughs. “Alright, let me know if you need any help.” He grins and adds, “Or a test subject.”
I shake my head. “I would never use you for that. You’re too pretty.”
“Thank you, (Y/N).” He hesitates before heading back to the living room. “I’d still trust you to, if you needed me, though.”
I smile. “I gotta go. I’ll let you know how it goes after.”
Tumblr media
“Yesterday definitely didn’t go as planned,” I mumble.
“That is not your fault,” Heimdall says. “From what I could tell, his location kept changing. There was no way that either of us could keep up with him at the rate he was moving.”
“How can he be moving that fast?” I shake my head. “It makes no sense.”
“I’m puzzled as well.”
“Well, he’d have to be moving through space, right? If he were anywhere on Earth, he’d at least be easier to pinpoint. More like a Pachinko machine than Pinball.”
“I’ll assume what you just said to be gibberish and move forward,” he mumbles. “But yes, he would have to be moving through space as opposed to being stuck on a stationary planet.”
“All of you are experiencing memory issues, correct?”
“To the best of my knowledge, yes.”
“Alright, what if you’re the one who sent Thor away?”
“There’s a possibility that I did.”
“Is there any way to mess up that kind of magic?”
“Only if the subject of the spell was knocked off course.”
“What if you tried to send Loki away and he was knocked off course?” I begin pacing, biting at my thumb. “There has to be something pretty powerful to mess with the memories of literal gods. Maybe Thor was subject one and got away clean, but Loki was subject two? Maybe whatever attacked you went after Loki before you could do anything, and he was already sent away, but knocked off course.”
“If that’s the case, then finding Loki is a matter of waiting.”
I groan. “That sounds awful. Is there no way to pull him closer?”
“Unless you’d like to completely destroy yourself, I would advise against it.”
“Ah, well… I guess I can wait a little while.” I paused mid-step. “Is there any way to more accurately pinpoint where he is?”
“It may be possible to determine his general position.”
“Then we’ll have to work on that, if there’s nothing else that we can do.”
“It would be prudent to practice on other spells while you are looking for Loki. I’m sure that this runs deeper than poor memories and displaced godlings. You may be getting yourself into something that you’re not ready for.”
“Fine. I’ll train and look for Loki during breaks. Does that sound good to you?”
“It sounds… acceptable.”
"Great, where do we start today?"
Tumblr media
“Are you sure that you’re alright?” Thor asks.
I nod. “I’ll be fine. I just need to sleep off this magic hangover.”
“I’m worried that you’re pushing yourself too hard, (Y/N),” he admits. “There’s no reason to kill yourself over magic.”
“I’m not going to, I promise.” I take his hand and smile up at him. “It’s like exercise. I have to build up my stamina and I’ll eventually get stronger, and I’ll be able to cast better and longer than I was before.”
“I don’t know…”
“What can I do to ease your mind?”
He holds our clasped hands to his chest. “Take a day off. You finished with your last project for the week two days ago. Just… take some time for yourself and rest.” He reaches out and cups the side of my face with his massive hand when I frown. “In the time that I’ve known you, I’ve never seen you this run down, (Y/N). I just want you to take care of yourself.”
I nod. “Alright.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Will I have to wrap you in a blanket and make sure you stay in one place?”
I roll my eyes. “You won’t. I’ll take the day off.”
“Thank you.” He gently kisses the top of my head. “Do you want clam chowder for dinner?”
I try not to laugh. “Why clam chowder?”
He shrugs. “I saw a couple of cans in the pantry and it looks good.”
I laugh and pull him towards the kitchen. ”Okay, we’ll have clam chowder for dinner, but we’ll do it with a twist.”
“Oh?”
“In my family, we add bacon, heavy cream, and fancy white cheddar cheese to our clam chowder,” I explain. “Makes the flavor a little more rich. I like to add a little Tabasco on top of all that, but that’s just a personal preference.”
“Wow.”
“Mhm, it takes a little extra time to prep, but it’s worth it.”
“Then I’ll help.”
“Hmm?”
“You say it takes extra time. If we work together, then it won’t take as long.”
I press my lips together to keep from laughing. I don’t have the heart to tell him it’ll take just as long to make dinner, even with two people in the kitchen, so I don’t say anything.
We cook dinner and Thor enjoys it just as much as he hoped he would.
Tumblr media
“You’re supposed to be taking the day off.”
“I know, I’m not doing anything.”
“Where are you off to, then?”
“We need groceries. You looked like you were really deep in your book, so I figured I’d go by myself.”
He perks up slightly. “I can go with, if you’d like.”
“No, it’s alright. You stay here with the beasts and your book. I won’t be gone all that long anyway.”
He sighs and agrees to let me go and settles on the floor just as Daisy trots into the living room. She flops down on his lap as I’m grabbing my purse and keys. She stretches as far as she can and licks Thor’s mouth and I laugh as he splutters and wipes away her slimy, doggy saliva.
“Are you sure that it’s wise to leave him on his own?”
“He’s a grown man, Heimdall, he can take care of himself and a dog for half an hour,” I mutter.
Thor looks up, silent question on his face, and I wave him off as I close the door behind me. The drive to the grocery store is uneventful and I’m able to get in and out of the store with relative ease. I just barely manage to escape having to talk to Sheriff Green as I’m climbing back into my car.
“I’ve been trying to find Loki,” I admit.
“I’m not surprised. You don’t seem the type to do what others tell you.”
“Look, I tried to take the day off, but there’s only so much TV I can watch and so many hobbies I can fiddle with before I get excruciatingly bored. I’m a fan of doing things that yield some kind of result.”
“So you decided on magic that will drain your energy unlike anything naturally found on your planet.”
“Thor doesn’t need to know.”
“I won’t tell him if you won’t.”
“Much appreciated.”
We lapse into silence, but Heimdall is just as eager to find Loki as I am.
“So, you said you were looking. Did you have any success?”
“I don’t know for sure, but it feels like he’s getting closer. Like he’s closing in on Earth.”
“I see.”
“More Pachinko than pinball, finally.”
“You still have yet to explain what you mean by that.”
“Okay, so with Pachinko you launch a ball into the board and hope it falls in the hole that you want, whereas, in Pinball, you want to keep the ball in the air as long as you can.”
“And the hole you want, in this instance, is Earth.”
“Exactly. If not Earth, then at least our solar system.”
“I see.”
“You should, you’re the one who’s supposed to see everything,” I joke. Heimdall says nothing and I shake my head. “You have no sense of humor.”
“It wasn’t funny.”
“Thor would’ve laughed.”
“Thor is in love with you, he would laugh at any joke you tell.”
“He’d laugh because I’m hilarious, not because he’s in love with me,” I retort. “And he is not in love with me!”
“You say that, but you’re half in love with him yourself. You are hardly in any position to argue about love.”
“I’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t tell me how I feel. You don’t know how I feel.”
“I see all, (Y/N). Remember?”
“Yeah, not as cool when you’re peeking into someone’s emotions.” I park the car in the carport, but don’t immediately get out. “But, as I was saying, I’ve been looking for Loki. I think he’s getting close to the solar system. I don’t know how close he is to Earth, but I plan on keeping an eye on the situation.”
“I see. I’ll do what I can to find his specific location.”
“Alright.” I grab up the groceries and reach for the door handle, but pause. “No telling Thor.”
“You seem to forget that I couldn’t, even if I tried.”
“Just making sure.”
I walk into the house and find Thor spread out on the floor with Daisy hugged up against his chest. The two of them are snoring softly and I laugh quietly and shake my head. I don’t wake them, and instead decide to get started on dinner on my own. The smell of cooking ham eventually rouses Thor and he wanders into the kitchen and wraps his arms around my middle. He kisses my temple and tucks his chin against my neck as he asks what I’m making.
“Breakfast sandwiches,” I answer. “Quick and easy and way healthier than McDonald’s.”
He hums softly and I pat his cheek before turning my attention back to dinner.
We curl up on the couch and watch a couple of episodes of a forging show. Heimdall’s accusations from earlier ring in my ears and I can’t help thinking of how I feel about Thor. I refuse to put too much thought into it, though, and settle against Thor’s chest.

The Lighthouse (4/??)
Summary: The town is sleepy, the people are nice enough, but life gets turned upsidedown when the God of Thunder literally falls out of the sky.
A/N: It’s been two years since I last updated this story, and it’s taken me this long to figure out where it needed to go. Good news: I’ve finally figured it out, and can get back to actually writing it. Anyway, please enjoy!

Part 3
Tumblr media
“(Y/N),” Thor calls. “There’s someone at the door for you!”
“Coming!” I shout.
I shove myself back from my desk and haul myself up from my chair. I push my hands into the small of my back and twist from side to side in a feeble attempt to crack my back. I give up after a couple of tries and pad out of my office onto the staircase.
At the bottom of the stairs, I find an agitated Sheriff Green and a nonplussed Thor facing off in the doorway. When the Sheriff sees me, he looks at Thor then back at me before his eyebrows pull together.
“(Y/N), who is this guy?” he asks, looking Thor up and down. “I haven’t seen him around town before.”
“Old friend, that’s all,” I answer, placing a gentle hand on Thor’s arm and pushing him back from the door. The Sheriff opens his mouth to ask another question and I hold up my hand, silently asking him to keep it to himself. “I trust him. That’s all you need to know.”
“Just one more question, and then I’ll stop.”
“Fine.”
“How long has he been in town?”
I shrug. “Couple days. Showed up just before the storm hit.”
“Really? I didn’t see another car in the driveway.”
“You said one question.”
“I’m just trying to gauge what’s happening.”
“Sheriff, unless I’ve done something wrong, there’s no reason to interrogate me.”
He nods and sighs in resignation. “How are you holding up after that storm?” he asks.
“Just fine,” I answer. “I wasn’t hit as hard as everyone else was this time. Could have something to do with being closer to the water, but I can’t say for sure.”
“Whatever it is, I’m glad you’re fine. If the lighthouse weren’t operational, we’d be in a helluva lot of trouble right about now.”
“Maybe, but… is there a reason you’re here, or is there something I can do for you, Sheriff?” I ask. “Not that it isn’t nice to see you, I’m just a bit busy at the moment. You know how people are about deadlines.”
“You still doin’ that editing thing?”
“Well, yeah. That editing “thing” is my job. Operating the lighthouse isn’t exactly lucrative work.”
“Is there an issue, (Y/N)?” Thor asks.
I shake my head. “No, don’t worry.” I glance back into the house. “Could you go check on Charles? He gets into trouble if he’s left alone for too long.”
He nods and squeezes my shoulder before heading off to the kitchen. The Sheriff’s eyes follow him until he notices my unimpressed expression.
“What?”
“Leave him alone, man, he’s got enough on his plate right now without you looking for some kind of trouble.”
“I have no idea what you mean.”
“Oh please, I saw the way you looked at him. Just because you’ve never seen him before doesn’t mean he’s dangerous.”
He scoffs and rolls his eyes. “I never said he was.”
“You didn’t have to, Sheriff. It was written all over your face.” I jerk my chin at him. “Now, what do you need?”
He sighs. “I just wanted to check up on you. No one’s seen you for a few days. Edith at the grocery store is starting to get worried.”
“It’s been two days. It’s not unusual for me to stay inside while I’m working. You know this, and you’ve never come by to check on me before, so why now?”
He tilts his head to the side. “I don’t… I don’t know.”
“Well if you don’t know, I guess that means we’re done here.”
“(Y/N)-”
“Sorry to cut this little visit short, but I have work and company to attend to. You know how it is.”
“Of course, you’re right.” He nods erratically. “I’ll see you around, (Y/N).”
“Yeah, see you around.”
He tips his hat to me and turns on his heel, quickly picking his way through the yard. I watch him until he’s in his car and driving away, and only when I can’t see him any longer do I close the door.
“That was odd,”
I slowly turn around to find Thor standing there with Charles curled up in his arms. I shake my head and scrub a hand over my face.
“Yeah, it was.”
“Does he normally act like that?” Thor asks, following me as I head into the living room.
“No, he doesn’t. That’s why it was odd.” I crouch down in front of the TV cabinet and reach as far back as my arm will go, fishing around for the metal case my father had hidden there. Looking at it fifteen years later, it seems impossibly dusty and small.
“What is that?” Thor crouches beside me and allows Charles to jump down from his arms.
“They’re old protection runes my father used to have hanging up near the front door. We took them down about five years after we moved in when he was sure this was a safe place.” I flip open the lid to reveal two substantially sized Algiz cast in silver metal. “I think it might be time to put them up again.”
“You believe the sheriff wishes you harm?”
“No, but he was acting strange. The fact that you, a literal god, are sitting in my living room leads me to think that there’s something out there that wants to get to you. If that’s the case, then we could use all the protection we can get short of calling up an actual witch.”
I pull myself up and head back to the front door. I take the pictures from the nails on either side of the doorway and set them to the side before carefully hanging the runes in their place.
“How is it that you know so much of runes and magic?”
“Runs in the family,” I answer. I straighten one of the runes slightly. “My dad said that my great aunt Lacy had actual magic, but I don’t think that got passed down to me.” I shoot him a grin. “Would’ve been cool if it had, though.”
“How do you know that it was not?”
“I think I’d know if I had magic by now.” Thor raises his eyebrows and I tap the side of my head. "Heimdall.”
“Ah.”
“If you’ve got any information on my totally fake magic, it’d be nice of you to let me know.”
“It certainly would explain why you’re the only human that I’ve been able to get through to. Believe me, I tried numerous before stumbling across you.”
“I wonder…” I head into the kitchen to clean up the mess we made at breakfast. “How many humans with magic do you know of who can talk to gods?”
“None, though one recently managed to bargain with a cosmic being who could be classified as a diety.”
“Well, then I’ll take the title of God Whisperer, please and thank you.”
Thor laughs heartily but sobers quickly. “The sheriff mentioned that you haven’t left to get groceries in quite some time.”
“I haven’t.” I bite the inside of my cheek. “I should probably make a trip to the store unless we want to eat canned soup and cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”
Thor laughs. “It wouldn’t be awful, though I understand your reluctance to do so.”
“I think you put too much faith in canned soup.” He just laughs harder and I shake my head.
I fold my arms and squint out the window, mulling over what I should do.
“What are you thinking?” he asks.
“I’m thinking that we need food, but I’d rather not leave you here on your own, even if you do have a vicious guard cat to keep you company.”
“Would I be wrong to think that you’re able to order groceries?” Thor asks. He smiles when I raise an eyebrow in question. “It’s something that I’ve seen Stark do in the past.”
“No, you’re not wrong. That’s actually a pretty smart idea.”
“Well, the only person who's ever accused me of being stupid is my brother,” he says, an amused smile playing at his lips.
I laugh and grab the phone from above the sink. “I’ve never really heard anything good about him, so I won’t trust his judgment.”
“I appreciate that.”
I call the grocery store and one of the clerks picks up.
“Thank you for calling Family Grocers, this is Deb, how can I help you today?”
“Hey, Deb, it’s (Y/N).”
“Hey, what can I do for you”?”
“I was hoping I could order some groceries? I’m on a time crunch for this project for work and I don’t have time to come by and shop.”
“Oh, yeah, no problem at all! What do you want in the order?”
I rattled off a list of things I’d need and she says she’ll have it ready for me in an hour. I thank her and hang up. I frown and place the phone on its’ stand before moving to the living room. I pace back and forth in front of the couch, arms folded across my chest. Daisy wanders along beside me but abandons me for scratches when Thor sits on the couch.
“You’re worried,” Thor says.
“Of course I’m worried. I don’t know what’s going on here. You can’t seem to remember what happened to you, and now the sheriff is acting weird.”
“Police on this world have always baffled me,” he says. “I wasn’t sure what to make of the way he acted.”
I shake my head. “Sure, police suck, but he’s always been pretty obvious about what he’s after. He was just… really weird, earlier. Like just off in general.”
“I see.”
I stop pacing and face him. “Do you think any of this could have something to do with you? Whatever happened on Asgard before you fell here has to have had some kind of impact outside of the crater you left.”
“It’s possible. I just can’t remember anything.” He sighs and leans back against the throw pillows. “I wish I had just a shred of what happened. But everything is blank.”
“Don’t worry about it yet.” I watch him squeeze his eyes shut and scrub his hands over his face. “We’ve got time before anything serious happens.”
“How can you be sure?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. Green gave up too easily. I feel like that’s a good sign, given the circumstances. If the runes help, it should buy us time to figure things out.”
He nods. “Alright.”
I take a seat on the couch, facing him with my legs tucked under myself. He reaches out and takes my hand in his. Daisy trots over and places her head in Thor’s lap and waits patiently for him to pet her. He sighs, smiles, and scratches behind her ears. When he scratches her chin her tongue lols out and Thor chuckles.
“Thank you, Daisy,” he says. “You’re a wonderful companion.”
She licked his hand and sat on his feet, contentedly wagging her tail when he continued to stroke her head. Thor slowly begins to relax and the tension leaves his shoulders when Daisy lifts her head and he leans down to press his nose against hers. He grins when she licks his chin and I laugh.
“I have a feeling that things will be alright,” Heimdall says. “All in due time.”
I nod and run my thumb over Thor’s knuckles. “We’ll figure it out.”
“Hmm?” Thor looks up from Daisy, eyebrows raised.
I shake my head. “Nothing. Just something Heimdall said.”
“Anything important?”
“No, everything’s fine.” He nods and is quickly distracted by Daisy again. “Everything’s fine.”

Part 4
Tumblr media
Thor lays on the couch with Daisy sprawled out along the length of his body. He absentmindedly scratches behind her ears with one hand while holding up a book with the other. When he pauses to turn the page, Daisy huffs because he isn’t paying attention to her anymore. Thor laughs and sets the book on the floor so that he can comb his fingers through the fur on her neck. He scratches her chin and grins when Daisy’s mouth hangs open and her tongue lolls out.
“You’re very beautiful,” he tells her. “Such a radiant smile. Your eyes sparkle like stars.”
Daisy licks his hand and he ruffles the fur along her rib cage.
“It’s almost like she understands exactly what you’re saying,” I comment.
He leans forward and rubs his nose against Daisy’s. “She’s so smart, I’m sure that she does.”
Daisy licks Thor from his chin to his nose and he just laughs.
“Ugh, you guys are adorable.”
Thor glances at me before looking back at Daisy and saying, “I think (Y/N) is feeling neglected.”
He coaxes Daisy off of him and shuffles off the couch over to where I'm propped up against the wall. He bundles me up in his arms and places me in his lap. When I'm right where he wants me, he tucks his face into the crook of my neck and Daisy lays herself on top of us. I laugh and Thor's beard scratches my neck. Daisy pushes herself up to lick my face and I just laugh harder.
“Guys, stop,” I wheeze.
Thor hums and the sound rumbles through his chest like thunder. He says, “But, (Y/N), this is so comfortable. I think Daisy would agree with me if she could speak.”
“Oh, I’m sure she would.” I push Daisy away and she settles against my lap. I scratch all up and down her back and she smiles her doggy smile. “She’s easily persuaded. Especially if there’s treats involved.”
Daisy’s ears perk up and her tail wags at the mention of treats. Thor laughs and I shake my head.
It takes some effort to extract myself from Thor’s arms, but I manage and head to the kitchen.
“I’m gonna start on dinner. Is there anything specific you’d like?” I ask.
He shrugs. “You were talking about chicken pot pie a few days ago. I don’t think I’ve ever had it before.”
I gasp in feigned surprise. “What a travesty. We have to fix that immediately.”
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Always." I pull the veggies, chicken, and pie crust from the fridge. "Could you start chopping the vegetables? I'm going to put the crust in to bake before starting on the filling."
"Of course."
He hauls himself up from the floor and joins me in the kitchen. He washes his hands before washing the carrots and celery. The oven heats as I shape the crust and begin measuring out the flour, oil, pepper, parsley, and thyme. Daisy trots in and sits beside Thor as he chops carrots and waits patiently for him to drop something. I watch him glance down at her and frown when he sees her big, pleading eyes. He slowly slides a slice of carrot across the cutting board and flicks it down to her. Daisy immediately snaps it out of the air and trots off with her prize. He immediately looks guilty as soon as he notices me watching him.
“Sorry,” he says.
“For what? Giving Daisy a healthy treat?” I laugh. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I just love watching the way you are with her. She really loves you.”
“You think so?”
“Thor, she sleeps in the same bed as you. She barely does that with me and my dad and I got her when she was a puppy. Believe me when I say this; you are her best friend.” I smile and turn back to my work. "You're mine too, by the way."
I hear him set the knife down. "Oh," he says.
I bite the inside of my cheek and shuffle seasonings around on the counter in front of me. "I know it's only been like three weeks, but I just feel comfortable around you. I trust you and I like talking to you. I just-"
Thor gently places his hand in the small of my back and I jump, startled. I turn to face him, brows pulled together, and frown. His eyes flit over my face as he carefully cups my jaw in his massive hands. My eyes flutter closed as he brushes his lips against mine. I tilt my head slightly in order to press my lips to his, only to abruptly pull back a moment later. I cover my mouth with one hand and drop my forehead to his chest as the realization of what just happened starts to sink in.
“I’m sorry,” he says softly. “That was inappropriate.”
He begins to pull away, but I grab a handful of his shirt and he stops. He clasps his hands behind my back and waits for me to say something. I shake my head and squeeze my eyes shut..
“I’m sorry,” I mumble.
“Wha-why?”
“You’re so perfect and I’m...” I sigh. “Inexperienced.”
“That doesn’t matter,” he murmurs. “All that matters is how you feel.”
“How I feel?” My heart pounds in my chest and I lean away from Thor as it becomes harder to breathe. “I feel lightheaded.”
“(Y/N)?”
“I can’t-” My knees give out and I can’t catch myself on anything before I start to fall.
Thor grabs me under my arms and slowly lowers me to the floor. He smooths his hands over my hair and shoulders, quietly asking if I’m alright. I shake my head, unable to explain what’s happening. I grip Thor’s shoulders as the world around me melts away. The scene that unfolds before me definitely isn’t my kitchen and I can’t see Thor anywhere. I can, however, still feel his hands on my face. I squeeze my eyes shut and hope that I’ll be back home when I open them.
“(Y/N)?”
My eyes snap open. “Heimdall?”
An imposing figure slowly appears from the shadows, He has a massive sword strapped to his back and a heavy cloak wrapped around his shoulders. He crouches down in front of me and a few of the locs he hasn’t tied back fall into his face. His eyes are a vibrant yellow gold and cast a striking contrast against his dark skin.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” he says.
"My pounding headache agrees with you," I mutter.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. Thor and I were starting dinner and-" I pause. "You should've been able to see all of it, right?"
"The two of you disappeared from my sight for only a moment. Now you're here."
"But I'm still at home," I protest. "I can feel his hands on my face. I know I'm not actually here!"
"But you are,” he says. “Part of you is, at least."
“But why? How?” I shake my head. “I didn’t do anything.”
“It may not be a matter of doing something. It may be that you were called here by something stronger than any of us.” He leans in slightly. “How is he?”
“He’s good. I just worry that he’s spent too much time around me.”
“Why?”
I shrug. “I don’t want him to experience any kind of Stockholm syndrome or anything.”
He takes a moment to process what I said. Eventually, he shakes his head. “I highly doubt that would be a problem.”
I nod. “Okay.”
He reaches out and places his hand on my arm. “Are you alright?”
“I…I don’t know.” My brows pull together. “Do you think you could see him through my eyes?”
“How so?”
“Well, if I’m both here and there, and you can see everything, maybe there’s a way for you to access whatever magic I might have, and see through my eyes.”
“There’s no telling what that would do to your mind.”
"But isn't it worth the risk? I'm not really useful outside of keeping a roof over his head. If there's any way that I can help, I'm willing to do it."
He frowns. "Are you sure?"
I don't even have to think about it. "Certain."
He sighs and mutters something about humans being 'so stubborn' and I act like I didn't hear anything. "Is he touching you right now?"
"Yes," I say. I can still feel Thor's warm hands against my cheeks.
"Place my hands exactly there," Heimdall instructs. "And mirror the placement on me."
"I'll be touching Thor, then. Are we just forming some kind of magic circuit?"
Heimdall nods. "If this works it will reduce the strain on your body."
"Alright." I place Heimdall's hands on my face and reach out to do the same to him. I don't feel his beard, but Thor's instead. I run my thumb over his cheek and I feel Thor press his face into my hand.
"Are you ready?"
I nod. "I can feel him," I murmur. "He's there."
"Close your eyes." I do as he says. “Clear your mind and…”
My eyes open of their own volition and everything that I can see feels very far away. Thor sits in front of me, deep furrow between his brows. I can see his lips moving but I can barely hear what he’s saying. I open my mouth to speak, but the voice that comes out isn’t mine. Surprise flashes across Thor’s face and my grip on his face tightens when he jerks back.
Heimdall’s voice flows from my mouth, telling Thor to calm down before he explains what’s happening. Thor slowly relaxes as Heimdall continues to speak with him. Thor asks about Loki and doesn’t get an answer that he likes. Sound fades away completely and I’m left to watch as Thor and Heimdall speak privately. Everything blends together and I don’t know how much time passes before sound filters through my consciousness again. Before I can fully hear again, Heimdall asks Thor something that makes his eyes go wide, but his expression soon softens and he traces his thumb across my cheekbone.
Thor nods and says, “Yes.”
Heimdall’s deem hum rumbles through my chest in response, and he says, “I see.”
“Could I have her back?” Thor asks.
"Have more faith in yourself, (Y/N)," Heimdall says, just for me to hear, and then any sign of him is gone.
All of my energy is gone, and without Heimdall's magic to support me, I feel myself begin to topple backwards. Thor's arms circle around me before I can hit the linoleum.
I look up at him and smile weakly. “Well, that was exciting.”
"That was foolish," he admonishes. "You don't know what that much power could have done to you."
"You and Heimdall were able to speak," I mumble. "Seems worth the risk."
Thor shakes his head and holds me to his chest. "Not to me. Not if it means losing you."
I curl my arms against my chest. “I’m fine,” I whisper.
“You’re not. You nearly collapsed not five minutes ago. I’d say that’s cause enough for concern.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry.” I sigh and push away from his body. “I just… I want to help you, and I don’t know how.”
“You’ve already done more than I could ever ask of someone in your position.”
“I just wish I could do more, and what Heimdall and I were able to do? That felt like more. It felt like progress.” I press my lips together. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
He just nods and helps me to my feet. With one arm around my waist, he walks me from the kitchen to the living room and sits me at one end of the couch before sitting at the other end. I fiddle with the hem of my sweater, trying to figure out what to say. Eventually, Thor sighs and shifts slightly forward.
“Heimdall mentioned that you’re worried that I’m spending too much time with you.”
“Maybe I am.” I pick at the skin around my fingernails. “I mean… why else would you kiss me?”
“How would that change anything?” he asks. “You’re not holding me hostage, (Y/N). I could leave if I wanted to.”
“Then why stay?”
“Because I like you,” he says. “I like being here, with you. Heimdall sent you to find me, but that doesn’t mean he tricked me into enjoying your company.”
My brows pull together. “I guess I just don’t understand, though. I’m human. I don’t see what I could have to offer you.”
“I’d say the same of myself. I’m not an ideal partner, to say the least.” He shuffles closer to me on the couch and reaches out to stop my fidgeting hands. “I’m rarely on Earth for very long, and when I am I’m with the Avengers. I’m overbearing, at times, and regularly disregard people’s need for personal space.”
“I’m hearing a silent ‘but’ in that explanation.”
“But I do know that I care about you, (Y/N). You are quick witted and kind and selfless at the worst times. You dropped everything to help me and opened your home to me when you didn’t have to.” He turns one of my hands over and traces his fingers across the palm. “I know that you’re a reserved person, and with the way I’ve seen people in this town treat you, I can’t say that I blame you, but you’re open with me. And I have to hope that counts for something.”
"Of course it does. I just don't…" I bite my lip. "I don't know what to do. Of course I'm attracted to you. Who wouldn't be? You're handsome and gentle and kind and way smarter than anyone gives you credit for. But I'm not good at this. The friendship part, I'm a pro at. But when it comes to serious feelings, it's like the instructions were completely left out of my manual."
"I understand."
"I just need to go slow." I press my lips together and finally meet his eyes. "You're wonderful and attentive, but I need more time for the connection that you seem to already feel."
He smiles. "Is that a yes?"
"A conditional one, but yeah." He grins and I can't help smiling. "Don't get too excited. When I say slow, I mean it. Glacially so. Like, tectonic-plates-shifting, kind of slow."
“You don’t have to warn me,” he says. “I understand.”
“Thank you.” The quiet of the house suddenly hits me and my brows pull together. “Where’s Charles?”
Thor frowns. “Where’s Daisy?”
We sit silently, listening for any skitter of claws or patter of small feet against the hardwood floors. The entire lighthouse is dead quiet for nearly five minutes before we hear a crash somewhere upstairs, followed by a yowl and a round of barking. My eyes go wide and Thor and I immediately jump up from the couch to investigate. We scramble up the stairs, searching for the pets.. We relax only when we find Charles and Daisy huddled together under my desk and my rolling chair overturned on the floor.
Thor steps into the room and picks up the chair before crouching in front of the desk and coaxing Daisy and Charles out. Daisy shuffles out and Thor pats the top of her head. Charles, on the other hand, is a little more spooked. Thor does his best, but Charles refuses to leave the safety of the desk. I watch for a moment longer before I place a hand on Thor’s shoulder and lower myself to the floor.
Charles perks up when I extend my hand to him and lifts his nose to smell the air.
“Come on, bud,” I murmur. “The big bad chair’s not gonna get you.”
He crawls halfway to me and stops before he bolts for my lap. He pushes up on his hind legs and practically crawls onto my shoulder. I hug him up against my chest and laugh when he starts to purr. Daisy lays herself across Thor’s lap and I rest my head against his shoulder. It suddenly hits me how late it is. At this point, it's to late to make chicken pot pie. I sigh and try to figure out what to make for dinner.

My dad chose to take over this lighthouse for a reason. For the longest time, I couldn’t understand why. Three years since he’s passed, and I finally understand what really sold him on this place.
Leaning on the railing around the top of the lighthouse, I watch the sun rise across the water. My cat, Charles, winds through my legs before jumping up onto the railing and rubbing his cheek against my shoulder. I scratch under his chin as Daisy sidles up and plops down beside me, leaning heavily against my leg. She acts like a puppy, but the graying fur around her muzzle betrays her.
It’s always calm like this in the early hours of the morning. When I wake up to turn off the light, I am gifted with the privilege of watching the world wake up. I wasn’t really a morning person until I had to take over maintenance from my father.
Charles leans up and bumps his nose against my cheek, pulling my attention away from the sunrise.
“What?”
He meows loudly and butts his head against my shoulder.
“Use your words.” He lets out a long mrow and stomps his little foot against the railing. “Are you hungry?” Daisy barks out her own response before Charles can do anything and her tail wags so hard half her body moves with it.
I laugh and shake my head, turning away from the railing. I open the door into the house and Charles and Daisy immediately rush past me, making a beeline for the stairwell. I follow them down the massive spiral staircase to the base and first floor of the lighthouse that houses the kitchen. Both of my furry friends sit beside their bowls, looking at me expectantly. I raise my eyebrows at them and Daisy just barks, her tail wagging quickly behind her. I smile at the both of them before grabbing the bags of food and scooping a serving into each bowl. While they’re occupied by their food, I scoop up their water dishes and dump the day old water down the sink. For a short time, the only sounds in the kitchen are of Daisy and Charles crunching away on their kibble and me refilling their water. By the time I replace their water dishes, Charles and Daisy are waiting patiently for their drink.
I leave Charles and Daisy on their own and head outside to check on the damage from last night’s storm. We’ve always had harsh storms on a regular basis around here, but last night was particularly crazy. The wind speeds were higher than they’ve been in almost ten years and the thunder and lightning have never been brighter or louder the entire time I’ve lived here.
“(Y/N)!” Sheriff Green calls to me from across the road.
I wave back and quickly cross the street. “Hey, how is everything this morning? Are all of the houses alright?”

The Lighthouse (2/??)
Summary: The town is sleepy, the people are nice enough, but life gets turned upsidedown when the God of Thunder literally falls out of the sky.
A/N: I meant to only post holiday fics this week, but I finished this and it’s Thorsday so there was no way I couldn’t post it. I hope you like this part as much as you did the last! (Also! Quick little thing! The god who is speaking to the reader is not Loki, as I’ve seen a couple people tag this as such. It’s a surprise as to who it is, but it definitely is not Loki.)

Part 1
“Holy shit,” I stand up, shaking my head. “This isn’t happening. Thor is absolutely not in the middle of this massive crater in the forest twenty minutes outside of town.”
I’m afraid he is.
“Ooh, you don’t get to talk, creepy and misleading disembodied voice. You’re the one who got me into this mess.” I cross my arms and stare down at the unconscious god in front of me. “How did he get here anyway?”
It’s not my story to tell. You’ll have to take him back with you and make sure that he is alright.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. You expect me to play the nursemaid and rescuer?” I laugh hysterically. “This isn’t what I signed up for, buddy pal. I never asked for any of this.”
Believe me, you’re not my first choice. Everyone else I tried to contact couldn’t hear me. You are the only human within a fifty mile radius of your town who is worthy to hear the voice of a god.
“Voice of a god, huh?” I rake a shaking hand through my hair and stare down at the blond man on the ground. “And which god am I speaking to?”
Unimportant. Get him into your vehicle and get him somewhere safe. Don’t forget the hammer.
“What?! He’s supposed to be six hundred something pounds! I don’t have the bodily strength to lift more than eighty, not to even mention that I’m probably not even close to worthy enough to lift Thor’s hammer!”
You yourself may not be worthy, but your companion animal certainly is. Send her to find it, and don’t worry about his weight. It won’t be an issue.
I sigh and look around the clearing, trying to find something that I might be able to roll Thor onto to drag him out of the crater. Daisy barks once, and shoots off around the crater, momentarily slowing now and then to sniff the ground before running off again. She disappears into the trees and, at first, I feel a pang of worry before realize that the disembodied voice said that she would be able to carry Thor’s hammer and that she’s probably gone off in search of it.
“This would be easier if campers would litter more often,” I huff out a breath, and fold my arms across my chest.
What were you hoping to find? Human rubbish?
“I was hoping for a trashed tent or even an abandoned tarp,” I answer, circling the unconscious god in the middle of this mess. “Something that would at least help me drag him out of here without breaking my back or giving him about a million splinters.”
Have you tried picking him up?
“I told you I have zero upper body strength. There’s no way I’ll be able to lift more than his arm.”
I thought I told you that his weight wouldn’t be an issue. Now the voice just sounds annoyed and I roll my eyes. You would do well to listen to me, human. I’ve told you twice already, and I’d rather not repeat myself a third time.
“Fine, I get it. Three strikes and you’re out and all of that.” I stare down at Thor, wondering about the best way to pick him up, thinking back to the videos I used to watch when I was seriously considering joining the military. “Fireman’s carry.”
What.
“I’ve watched videos of women who were five three carrying men nearly three times their weight long distances using the fireman’s carry. If what you’re saying is true and I don’t have to worry about my lack of strength, then I should be able to carry him back to the car the same way.”
As long as you can safely get him out of the crater, I don’t care what you do.
A loud thump followed by a round of excited barking pulls my attention away from Thor. Glancing around the clearing, I can see Daisy in the distance, standing next to what I can only assume is Thor’s hammer, shaking her tail excitedly.
I rub my hands together and crouch down and haul Thor up, my hands under his arms, sling one of his arms over my shoulder and push him up with the other, hooking my arm around one of his legs. I struggle to stand up momentarily before he seems to lighten immensely and I almost fall over due to lack of weight.
“Well that was unexpected,” I mutter. “Couldn’t have made him lighter before I picked him up?”
I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I roll my eyes. “Of course you don’t.”
I begin the trek back up the crater wall, occasionally having to kick the toes of my boots into the soft soil to get a firm foothold. It takes longer to get out than it did to get in, but I thankfully manage to avoid any falls this time.
As soon as I make it over the lip of the crater, Daisy is right there with the hammer in her mouth, her tail wagging faster than I’ve ever seen before.
“Did you do a good job, pup?” She moves her head around like she wants to bark, but doesn’t want to put the hammer down. “Good. Can you show me how to get back to the truck?”
She takes off into the underbrush without warning and I have to carefully pick my way through the bushes to follow after her. I try my hardest to avoid any tree branches and blackberry vines that we come across, but as soon as we set foot back on the trail I can see multiple small scratches, scrapes and cuts along his arms and hands.
It isn’t long after we find the trail again that Daisy and I are at the trailhead and standing in front of the truck. Shifting Thor around so that I can hold onto his arm and leg with the same arm, I dig around in my bag for the keys and unlock the passenger door. I try to very carefully place him in the passenger seat, only managing to bang his head once he’s actually in the truck when his head lolls back and smacks against the back window.
I heard that.
“Shut up,” I mutter. “Alright, Daisy lady, you have to ride in the back on the way home, okay?”
She just wags her tail and heads around to the bed of the truck without waiting for me. I quickly follow her and pull down the back gate. Crouching down, I pick Daisy up and lift her into the bed of the truck before closing it up again. I giggle as I circle back around the truck to the driver's side.
What are you laughing about?
“I just lifted Thor’s hammer,” I answer, closing the door and starting the engine.
No, you didn’t.
“Oh yes I did, I just put it in the bed of my truck with my dog.” I pull a U turn and head back to town.  “Technically I lifted the hammer, and that totally counts.”
I’m not sure that counts, but whatever makes you happy.
“Thank you,” I drive on in silence, occasionally checking on Daisy in the rearview mirror to make sure she’s doing alright. “I’ll still be able to carry Thor once I get back, right?”
I would think so, yes.
“Well, that’s good because there’s no way he’ll fit on my couch so I’ll have to get him up to the third floor.”
Three floors sounds a bit excessive.
I laugh. “You’d think, but I live in a lighthouse. There isn’t really anywhere to go but up.”
When we turn onto Main Street, most of the debris from the storm has been cleared away and everyone seems to be back to their normal daily schedule. I wave to Diane Crawford as she crosses the street to Grover’s Grocery about six blocks away from the lighthouse.
Then I hope the enchantment holds long enough for you to get him upstairs.
I laugh. “So do I. I’d rather not be the one who has to drag him up the stairs on top of the reason he’s got a headache.”
I can almost hear the disembodied voice laugh before they respond. I imagine that he would appreciate that.
“I’m glad that you think so, disembodied voice.” I pull into the driveway and kill the engine. I quickly get out of the car and let down the back gate so that Daisy can get down. When she hops down, I unlock the door to the house and push it open. Daisy brushes past me so that she can greet Charles. I shake my head and head back to the truck to retrieve the unconscious god in my passenger seat. “It’d be really cool if you’d tell me what your voice is so I don’t have to keep calling you “disembodied voice”. Just a thought.”
Perhaps in the coming days, if you treat him well.
I frown as I heft Thor up onto my shoulders. I kick the car door closed and carefully make my way into the house. Charles winds through my legs as soon as I’m through the door and I have to shoo him away before I can head for the stairs.
“I don’t really understand why you’re being so secretive,” I barely manage to miss hitting the inner pole of the spiral staircase with Thor’s head as I try to get up to the third floor as quickly as possible. “You obviously know a lot about me, and I have little to no knowledge about Thor and I know even less about you. If I’m going to be helping him, I need more information.”
It’s not mine to give.
“Great, well when you’ve got permission to spill the beans, I’m all ears.”
I hit the third floor landing and slowly pull open the door, trying my best to avoid dropping the god of thunder. As soon as we’re through the doorway, I’m hit with an almost crippling wave of nostalgia. I haven’t been in my father’s room since he passed. Everything is exactly the way he left it and it still hurts to know that he’s not just testing me to see if I really can take care of the lighthouse on my own.
I bite my cheek to distract myself from the memories and pull back the duvet so I can offer Thor some kind of comfort for when he wakes up. When he’s all covered up, I pull a set of clean clothes from my father’s drawers and set them on the wooden chair a short ways away from the bed. The jeans may not fit, but the fisherman’s sweater definitely will. I leave a note on the clothes, and when I’m sure that I’ve done everything I can, for the time being, I head back downstairs to find something to do.
Are you alright?
I shake my head and comb my hands through my hair. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
Are you sure?
I snort. “Look, if you’re going to withhold information, I can do the same.”
Fair enough.

When It Rains
Summary: Sometimes when things get to be too much, Thor is the only one who knows how to make things better.
A/N: Alrighty, so a little while back I sent a whole bunch of anxiety attack/comfort headcanons in to one of my favorite people of all time ( @claws-of-vibranium ), and I ended up liking the Thor one’s so much that I had to write a fic about them. I know it’s short, but I really hope you like it!!
Pairing: ThorxReader
Word Count: 901
Warnings: Anxiety attack
“Thor?” You wring your hands together, shifting from foot to foot from your place in the doorway of the gym.
He looks up from what he's doing and looks you over. He takes in your red rimmed eyes, your saggy, oversized clothes and the state of disarray that your hair is in. Concern darkens his features and he immediately replaces the dumbbells on the rack before swiftly crossing the floor and pulling you against his chest. He gently combs through your hair before pulling away and cupping your face in his large hands. You don't meet his eyes, preoccupied by the thoughts crashing around inside your head, and his brow furrows.
“(Y/N), are you alright?”
You stare pointedly at the floor momentarily before dragging your gaze up to meet his. Your brow knits together and a single tear slides down your cheek. You rub away the tear with the heel of your hand and shake your head no. He sighs softly, more saddened that you are so reserved in telling him about your struggles than anything else.
He carefully scoops you up in his arms and makes a beeline for the stairs. You let your head fall against his chest and he hold you tighter to him. He presses a soft kiss to the top of your head and slowly pushes open the door of his bedroom.
Thor sits with his back against the headboard of his bed. He carefully positions you in his lap so that you’re propped up against his chest. He wraps a blanket around the both of you, and circles his arms around you. You slowly allow your body to relax against his and your eyes close, blocking out the soft light in the room.
Thor has never asked you about your anxiety attacks. He’s never really talked about it with you at all. You don’t know how, but he always seems to know what you need when you’re having an attack. The first time you were struggling he had immediately wrapped you up in his arms on the couch and wouldn’t leave you until he was certain that there was no chance of you having another attack that day. He held you and rocked you back and forth, softly humming songs that you don’t recognize that are more soothing than the one’s you do.
Thor gently combs his hand through your hair, careful about getting his fingers caught in the tangles. He works the knots out and continues on with another section. You let out a shuddering breath and Thor gently wipes away the tears that have rolled down your cheeks with his thumbs. You cover one of his hands with yours and lean into the touch, not trusting yourself to open your eyes, knowing that you’d start sobbing if you did.
“I know that you feel as if you must be in control all the time,” Thor says, his voice quiet. “You exhaust yourself trying to contain everything you feel to the point of breaking down. You hold everything in, forgetting that you are allowed to be weak, to feel your emotions as naturally as anyone else would.”
Your shoulders begin to shake and tears roll down your face as his words sink in. Pressing your forehead to Thor’s chest, a broken sob escapes your throat before turning into a shuddering breath. Thor wraps you in his arms, rocking the two of you from side to side.
“You can’t keep holding everything in.” He whispers. “I have held my tongue this long, but I cannot stand by and watch as you break yourself down. I won’t.” He shakes his head and you feel the shaky breath he takes before continuing. “You are important to me, (Y/N). I want to help you in any way that I can. I know that I cannot protect you from yourself, but I would like you to trust me to help you through your trials.”
“I-I’m sorry,” You stammer out. “Thor-”
“Hush,” He tips your chin up and presses a gentle kiss to your forehead. “You have nothing to apologize for. Never apologize for what you feel.”
You nod, eyes squeezed shut, and lean up to press your forehead to his. He sighs softly, a small smile fixing itself on his face. You carefully cradle his bearded jaw in your hands, allowing him to become the one thing your attention is fixed on.
Thor wraps one arm around your middle and slowly rolls the two of you onto your sides so that you’re facing one another on the bed. He adjusts the blanket so that it covers the both of you before he starts combing his fingers through your hair once again.
You yawn shakily, your breath still uneven from crying, and drape one arm over Thor’s waist, curling into his chest. You can feel a contented hum rumble through Thor’s chest and it brings a small smile to your face.
“Thank you,” you whisper.
He presses a soft kiss to the top of your head. “Think nothing of it, (Y/N).”
Thor holds you close, softly humming a lullaby his mother used to sing to him when he couldn’t sleep as a child. You sigh quietly, relaxing fully against Thor’s body. You can hear the soft patter of rain in the distance and, for the first time in a while, everything feels like it could be alright.
Thank you guys so much for reading! If you liked the piece please reply to the post or shoot me an ask! Feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

Language
Original request from the lovely @lady-thor-foster :  Okay thank you!! Could a request a Clint or Thor fluff piece where the reader is notoriously clumsy but she’s a damn good linguist (She knows more languages than Natasha honestly) so every time she trips she shouts in a different language? Clint or Thor find it hilarious but a little concerning so they start following her around to make sure she doesn’t injure herself? Just super cute and fluffy (female pronouns please!!) Thank you so much!
A/N: Alright, so this is my first Thor fic and I’m really excited about it, so I hope I’ve done him justice and that you enjoy what I did with the prompt!! (I’ll put translations for the curses at the end!)

“This is (Y/N), she’s going to be working with us as our new linguistics specialist for a while.” Steve says as I walk it into the room.
“He says a while, but it could be permanent.” I add, plopping down in an empty seat around the conference table.
“Why do we need another linguist?” Natasha asks. “We’ve got me, haven’t we?
“We certainly do have you, but we need you in the field.” Steve explains.
“I’m more of a stay at home kind of girl anyway.” I shift in my seat and lean forward, resting my elbows on the table, “I’m not replacing you, Romanoff, I’m simply freeing you up to take on missions that are more your style. I’ll be staying here, deciphering important texts, while you’re off doing your incredibly impressive spy thing.”
“Alright,” Natasha nods, satisfied.
“Good,” Steve nods to Natasha before turning back to the group. “As I said, (Y/N) is going to be working with us here in the tower for the foreseeable future. She’ll be living here while she’s with us as well. ”
“Finally,” Wanda says, a smile stretching across her face. “Another girl in the tower.”
I flash her a smile. “Hopefully I won’t be too much of a disappointment.”
Wanda perks up, her posture straightening, a smirk settling on her features. “Something tells me you won’t be.”
A head with long blond hair pokes into the conference room. “Sorry to interrupt, but I have returned.”
Steve waves the man through the door. “You’re just in time, Thor.” He says.
Thor looks at Steve, confused. “I am?”
“We’ve got a new teammate joining us.” Steve explains.
Thor’s eyes travel over the table before resting on me. I shoot him a small smile and he grins back. “Hello, who might you be?”
“I’m (Y/N), the new linguist.”
“It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, (Y/N).”
I offer a small nod. “Same to you, Thor.”
“Son of a bitch!” I yell, just barely managing to catch myself before falling flat on my face after catching my foot on the leg of a chair.
“(Y/N)?” Thor calls, poking his head around the corner. “Is everything alright?”
“Peachy keen!” I answer. “I just need to watch where I’m going is all.”
His brow furrows. “Are you sure?”
“Of course. Nothing to worry about!”
“Please be more careful, (Y/N), I would hate to see you harm yourself.”
“I’ll do my best, blondie.” I grin at him and pat him on the shoulder before backing away down the hallway. “The team is still on for pizza tonight, right?”
“Of course. Stark complains when pizza night is skipped. We have made an arrangement with the pizzeria to bring us pizzas each friday.”
I feel my eyes go wide. “Wow,”
“Indeed,” He grins widely.
“Alright, well I’ll see you later then!”
“Yes,” He nods to me. “I will see you later.”
I turn on my heel and cover my mouth with my hand to muffle my giggling. Straightening out my features as quickly as possible, I head down the hall to the elevator so I can meet Tony in the lab.
A loud thud echoes through the hallway followed by someone shouting, “Merde!”
Thor quickly gets up from his seat in the most comfortable chair in his room to investigate. No sooner has he left his room does he find the new linguist sitting on the floor in the middle of the hallway, cradling her foot in her hands.
“Are you alright, (Y/N)?” He asks.
She looks up at the blond towering over her and grins at him.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just managed to stub my toe going around the corner there.” She points to the corner of the wall a little ways away. “Nothing to worry about.”
“Are you sure?” He offers her a hand up and pulls her to her feet when she takes it.
She nods in affirmation. “Entirely.” She tugs at the hem of her shirt and backs away a few paces. “I should probably head back to my room. There are a few files waiting there for me to translate them and I have to grab them before I can find the texts I need to start the translation.”
“Alright,” He nods. “Do be careful, (Y/N), I would hate to see you hurt.”
“Thanks for your concern, big guy.” She says, standing on tiptoe and placing a kiss on his cheek before shoving her hands in her pockets and backing away from him. “If you need anything, I’ll be in the library like always.”
Thor flashes her a brilliant smile and nods, scratching the back of his neck. “I’ll be sure to find you if anything comes up.”
(Y/N) laughs lightheartedly before turning on her heel and sauntering off down the hallway towards the library.
“Himmeldonnerwetter,” I hiss, sticking my right index finger in my mouth. I was a little too hasty in opening this file and slid the pad of my finger down the edge of the beigey-yellow cardstock of the folder effectively getting the worst paper cut imaginable.
“Did you just curse in German?” Thor asks.
I look up, surprised to see him sitting across the table from me. I didn’t notice him come him.
“I, uh… yeah?” He lifts his eyebrows, surprised by my answer. “What?”
He shakes his head and looks away from me. “It’s nothing. I just wasn’t expecting to hear such a colorful array of expletives from a mortal.”
“I’m a linguist, Thor. ” I laugh softly. “I know a lot of curse words.”
“I apologize, it was not my intention to misjudge you.” He reaches out and takes my hand in his, studying the papercut. “Is your hand alright?”
“I think so, yeah. Just need to go wash it off and put some neosporin on. The cut’ll practically be gone by morning.”
“Human medicine is strange sometimes,” He says softly, turning my hand over in his.
“In all honesty, the same could be said of Asgardian medicine.”
His eyebrows shoot up to his hairline and his posture straightens. “You know of Asgardian medicine?”
I nod once, resting my chin in my free hand. “I do.”
“How could you possibly have first hand knowledge of Asgard? Humans have not yet mastered interdimensional travel.”
“I may or may not have convinced an Asgardian man masquerading as a professor at my first university to take me with him when he went home one spring break one year. I’m sure your gatekeeper would remember it quite well.”
He smiles softly, amusement sparkling in his eyes. “Strange, Heimdall neglected to tell my father that a mortal had visited Asgard.”
“Mmm,” I hum. “Funny, I asked him to keep it quiet. Seems like he’s a bit of a rebel.”
He laughs and laces his fingers with my own. “You are different than I thought you were when I met you, (Y/N). You are so much more full of life than I expected you to be.” I lift my eyebrows in mock offence. “It’s wonderful, really. It seems that there isn’t much that surprises me on this world, but you do.”
I grin widely. “Oh yeah?”
“I truly mean it.”
“Well thank you, happy to be of service.”
He chuckles softly and brings my hand to his mouth, pressing a soft kiss to my knuckles. “Do be careful, (Y/N), I’d hate to see you hurt.”
“I’ll do my best. Can’t make any real promises, but I’ll try.”
He smiles widely, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “That is all I ask.”
“Barton!” Thor’s voice booms through the hallway, stopping Clint in his tracks.
He turns around slowly, eyes wide, shoulders raised almost like hackles. “Yeah?”
“Have you noticed that (Y/N) gets hurt a lot?” Clint’s shoulders relax and he raises his eyebrows, crossing his arms over his chest, almost like he’s inviting Thor to continue. “She curses in a different language each time she injures herself.”
“So she’s a clumsy linguist.” Clint shrugs. “Is there anything else that’s so incredibly groundbreaking that you had to almost blow out my hearing aids to talk to me about it?”
“It was not my intention to further damage your hearing, my friend.”
Clint shakes his head. “It’s fine.”
“As I was saying, I thought her clumsiness amusing and endearing to begin with, but I find myself quite taken with her now. I worry for her safety.”
“So you’re worried that your maybe girlfriend is too clumsy for her own good?” Thor nods and Clint barks out a laugh. “I hate to break it to you, but that is the opposite of a problem.”
“How do you mean?”
“You have an excuse to hang out around her and make sure that she doesn’t hurt herself.”
Thor frowns for a moment, mulling it over. “Perhaps you are right.”
“Of course I’m right. When have I ever had a bad idea?” Thor lifts his eyebrows questioningly. “Don’t answer that.”
Thor chuckles and claps Clint on the shoulder, pitching the shorter man forward. Clint barely manages to catch himself on wall before falling flat on his face and quickly spins around to face Thor again.
“Many thanks for your advice, Barton. I will let you know if I have any success.”
“Yeah sure, okay. You do that, big guy.”
“(Y/N)!”
I jump, startled by Thor’s loud voice, nearly dropping my bowl of cereal. I set the bowl on the counter and scrub a hand over my face.
“Good night nurse. You scared me half to death!” Laughing I smile widely at him. “You must be in a good mood today.”
“I am,” Thor nods and leans back on the counter. “I spoke with Barton earlier, and I believe he has helped me solve an ongoing problem of mine?”
“Oh? Care to share?”
“Not presently, but maybe in the future.” He casts his eyes to the floor, smiling to himself. “Would you mind if I spent the day with you?”
“You don’t have an assignment today?” I tilt my head to the side, folding my arms across my chest. “I thought Steve had everyone on a strict training schedule. Are you saying you’re going to skip out on Avenger practice, just to spend time with little ole me?”
“Of course. Specifically if it means spending time with you.” He smiles widely, eyes sparkling.
I bite my lip, trying to hold back a grin. “Alright, God of Thunder. What’d you have in mind?”
“I was hoping that you would accompany me in a brief visit to Asgard.”
“Wait,” I stretch a hand out to him, trying to get a handle on what it is he’s offering me. “You’re seriously offering to take me back? Even though I’m human?” He nods, taking my outstretched hand in his. “I thought my kind had no place on Asgard.”
“I think it could be argued that that is one rule that is meant to be bent.”
“I think you’re just throwing your hammer through that particular rule.”
“So you won’t come with me?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t go that far.” I squeeze his hand firmly. “Just let me finish my cereal and change and then we can leave.”
He laughs and lets go of my hand. “Very well. I will wait for you in my quarters.”
“Great! I’ll be there in half an hour.”
A soft knock sounds on the door frame. Thor looks up only to have his breath catch in his throat. (Y/N) stands waiting, just outside his room, in traditional Asgardian clothing. He can’t bring himself to say anything, only a few croaks that were meant to be words escaping his lips.
“Hey,” She lifts her eyebrows and waves a hand in front of his face. “You ready to go?”
He shakes his head, blinking rapidly. “I-yes, of course.” He clears his throat. “You look stunning.”
“Oh,” A slow blush creeps across her cheeks. “Thank you. In all honesty, I didn’t know if they would still fit.”
“When did you acquire Asgardian clothing?”
“Remember when I told you I talked a professor into taking me when he went back?” Thor nods. “Well, he had to help me blend in somehow, and he convinced his sister to lend me an outfit. I use the word “lend” loosely because she’s never getting this back.”
“I should hope not,” He says softly, still taking in her appearance.
“What?”
“Nothing,” He says hastily, wiping his hands on the duvet and pushing himself to his feet. “Shall we go?”
“It’s nice to see you again, (Y/N),” Heimdall greets Thor and I with a nod. “Though I did not expect to have the pleasure for a great while longer.”
“I can’t say I was expecting to come back anytime soon either, but it’s nice to see you again, too. We’ll be keeping this little jaunt a secret as well, right?”
He smirks. “Of course. Though I cannot promise that there is not another who will not make your presence known.”
“He wouldn’t dare.” Thor growls.
“What?”
“My meddlesome brother appears to have returned.”
“Well, we’ll just have to avoid him, now won’t we?” Thor looks at me, brow furrowed, expression worried. “I can talk myself out of almost any situation if we get caught you know.”
“She can,” Heimdall says, not bothering to look at us. “I’ve seen it.”
“Fine, but we leave if he so much as glances at you.”
“Of course, safety first. Now,” I gently take his hand in mine. “Can we please explore that big ass golden city? It’s been almost six years and, from what I’m gathering, I’ve got about three hours till someone finds us out.”
“Alright, but never let go of my hand.”
“Fair enough,”
He leads me out onto the bridge and pulls me close to his chest, a strong arm firmly wrapped around my waist.
“Are we flying there?” A low hum rumbles in his chest and he nods in affirmation. “Real covert.”
He laughs loudly. “Just hold onto me. I’d hate to drop you.”
“Would be a real shame.” He hums in agreement.
In an instant, we’re in the air, hurtling towards the shining castle in the middle of the city. He lands on a balcony facing away from the prying eyes of Asgardian citizens. Thor carefully places me on the ground, holding onto one of my hands to allow me to regain my balance before letting me stand on my own.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m great,” I answer, shooting him a smile. He grins back before leading me through the doors and into the castle proper.
The doors close behind us, seemingly of their own accord. I get about three steps away before I can’t go any further. Looking back, I find the skirts of my dress caught between the closed doors.
“Zajebiste.” I curse. “Um, Thor?”
“Yes?” He looks back at me tugging at my dress, trying to free myself, and rushes back to me, carefully opening the doors to make sure that the fabric doesn’t tear. “I’m sorry. I should have warned you. The doors tend to close rather abruptly.”
I smile at him. “I should be the one apologizing, don’t worry.”
He takes my hand in his, gently lacing our fingers together. “I will make sure nothing else happens to you.”
I nod and he leads us onwards. He points out little parts of the architecture that he thinks I’ll like and allows me to peek into different rooms, explaining what everyone is doing, and then running off, giggling like children, when someone notices us and tries to engage us in conversation.
“Thor!” Someone calls after us and Thor immediately whips around, hiding me behind his back.
“Fandral,” Thor greets the man with a nod.
“We weren’t expecting you back so soon, my friend.” The man Thor called Fandral stops not too far away from us. “Who’s that you’ve got hidden behind you?”
Thor sighs softly and guides me out from behind  him. I look the man over, finding him handsome, but more ordinary than Thor.
“This is (Y/N). She’s a friend.”
“Where did you find her?” Fandral asks, sly smile firmly in place. “She’s quite pretty.”
I roll my eyes. “Gay kocken offen yom.”
“I beg your pardon?” Fandral’s eyes widen.
“I know exactly who you are.” Thor looks at me, eyebrows raised. “What? I read books on Norse mythology when I took a theology class in college. I know all about your little band of merry men, and I know exactly who thinks himself a ladies man.”
Thor snorts to cover up a laugh, amusement sparkling in his eyes.
“Another mortal?” Fandral asks.
“Yes,”
“You know how your father feels about her kind, Thor.”
“I know, which is why we are avoiding him,”
“And his brother,” I add. “We’d like to avoid him at all costs.”
“Of course, that’s a given.” Fandral looks to Thor again. “Do you plan on introducing her to your mother?”
“Not this time, though I’m certain she’ll find us regardless.”
Fandral nods. “Well, best of luck to you! It was a pleasure meeting you, (Y/N).” He takes my hand and presses a kiss to my knuckles, chuckling when I scowl at him and pull my hand away. “I do hope that we’ll be seeing more of you.”
“Depends on how this visit goes, I guess.”
“Indeed,” Thor smiles at me and takes my hand again. “How would you like to see the archives?”
“Are you kidding? That would be incredible!” I squeeze his hand excitedly. “Meeting gods is nice and all, but getting to nerd out in an alien library? That’s a linguist’s dream.”
“She’s a special one, Thor.”
“She is,” Thor grins. “Come, it’s this way.”
We bid Fandral farewell and Thor leads me down the hallway. He makes several quick turns and stops in the middle of the corridor occasionally to recenter himself. We walk quickly and I manage to get my feet tangled in the skirts of my dress several times. I would have fallen over every single time had Thor not been there to catch me each time.
Thor brings us to a stop in front of two ornate double doors. When he pulls one open, the hinges groan in protest, like they haven’t been moved in years, and Thor cringes at the sound. He pokes his head through the door and glances around before carefully guiding me through and closing the door behind us.
The smell of old paper and ink washes over me and I instantly relax. I close my eyes and breathe deeply, feeling an intense sense home among the rows of ancient texts. I can’t help the smile that overtakes my face and I turn to Thor, wrapping my arms around his middle and hugging him.
“I can’t thank you enough for this, it’s incredible.”
“Would you like to look around?”
“Well yeah, that’s what libraries are for, right?”
He chuckles softly and leads me down one row. As we walk, he points out different texts, explaining where they came from, occasionally pulling a book down and letting me flip through it. The texts are incredibly well preserved and the colors and illumination are gorgeous in each book I get to look at.
“You should have told me you were coming.”
“It wasn’t a planned visit, mother. If it were, I would have let you know.”
“Holy shit.” I breathe, my eyes going wide. “The All Mother. Holy shit.”
“Who’s this you’ve brought with you?” I can hear the smile in her voice and I slowly turn my head to look at her.
“This is (Y/N),” Thor places the book in his hand back on the shelf and steps aside so his mother can look at me. “She is a colleague of mine.”
“Another human, Thor?” She chuckles softly. “You certainly have an affinity for her kind, my son.”
“Her kind, yes, but she’s different from the rest.” When he looks at me, he smiles softly, an emotion I’ve never seen from him shining in his eyes.
His mother smiles knowingly and takes a few long strides towards us. She gently cups my face in her hands and looks into my eyes. “You possess a great knowledge within you.”
“I’m a linguist,” I say, mentally kicking myself for sounding so stupid. “It’s why Thor brought me here. He thought I’d be interested in the texts you’ve collected.”
She laughs softly and releases my face. “That is not exactly what I meant. You will come to understand with time.” She turns to her son. “You have chosen well.”
Thor nods to her and pulls her into a gentle hug. “Thank you.”
“Take care of her.” She says, her tone gentle but stern. “Be sure that your brother does not spot her.”
“Of course.” Thor nods once in understanding.
She smiles at us once more before slipping past us and out of the library.
“She’s amazing.” I whisper.
“She certainly is that.” He gently takes my hands in his. “I must tell you why I brought you here today.”
I shake my head. “Don’t worry, I already know.”
“You do?”
“Yeah, I heard you talking to Clint the other day. You weren’t exactly quiet.”
“Oh,” His shoulders fall and I place a hand on his cheek, making him meet my eyes.
“I think it’s sweet, Thor, I really do. I know I’m clumsy. The fact that you brought me here as an excuse to keep an eye on me and make sure I don’t hurt myself is hilarious, but no one’s done that for me before.”
“So you aren’t upset with me?”
“Of course not,” I see a shock of black hair stalking through the stacks and tug on Thor’s hands. “But I think we should get the hell out of here before your brother catches us.”
He barks out a laugh and gathers me up in his arms before running for the door. As soon as we’re out on a balcony he sets me down and wraps an arm around my waist before pressing a soft kiss to my lips.
“We’ll get permission to come back next time.”
“Of course. But first, we have to get out of here.”
“Oh, of course.” He grins widely at me. He lifts us into the air and angles us towards the rainbow bridge.
As we soar over the city, the sun is setting, and everything is perfect.

Part 2
Thor sits bolt upright, taking gasping breaths, his chest heaving with the effort. His surroundings are foreign to him and the room is all at once too small for him to bear. He throws the covers off of his body and rushes out of the room, practically throwing himself down the narrow staircase that he’s immediately met with. He nearly trips several times, but he rights himself and manages to keep on his feet.
As soon as he makes the first floor, he’s hit with the smell of vanilla and bacon cooking. He stops in his tracks, blinking rapidly, trying to understand what’s going on. He hears the skitter of claws on hardwood and whips around, expecting something much larger than the elderly golden retriever that greets him, her tail wagging vigorously and her tongue lolling out of her mouth. His shoulders relax minutely and he finally takes a moment to take in his surroundings.
The first floor of the house is spacious and cozy. Blankets and pillows rest on chairs and couches in the left of him and family portraits cover the walls along with framed artwork that starts out terrible, he notes, and gets better the further into the room you go.
To his right is the kitchen where the smells of midgardian breakfast that are wafting through the house have been coming from. He can hear something sizzling away in a pan and someone softly humming a tune he doesn’t recognize. He doesn’t understand why, but something is drawing him towards the distant voice, and soon enough his feet are moving of their own accord towards the kitchen.
“Where am I,” he says, more of a statement than the question he had meant it to be.
The woman at the stove jumps, nearly dropping the plate stacked high with pancakes. She turns around, wide eyed until she can see who’d spoken. Her shoulders immediately relax and she sets the plate on the counter before approaching him. When she’s almost three feet away, Thor takes a few steps backward, wary of this woman who somehow managed to get him into this house.
She holds up her hands in an attempt to pacify him. “Hey, it’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you,” she says, her voice soothing.
Thor shakes his head, trying to clear the sudden fogginess that’s overcome him. “Who are you? What am I doing here?”
She gently takes him by the arm and leads him to the sitting room he saw earlier. “My name is (Y/N),” She explains, sitting him down on a plush couch. “I don’t know why, but it’s my job to look after you for now.”
He shakes his head again. “I don’t understand,”
“Honey, neither do I, so we’re both flying blind here.” She smiles softly at him, and the action only serves to further confuse Thor. “I’ll tell you what. Breakfast will be done in a few minutes, how about we get some food in you, and then we can talk about everything. Alright?”
Thor frowns but nods anyway. “That sounds… manageable.”
“Great! I’ll come get you when everything’s ready. For now, you can relax here, or you can change into some cleaner clothes if you’d like. There’s a pair of jeans and a sweater on the chair in that room you woke up in. I don’t know how well the jeans will fit, but the sweater should be nice and warm.”
Thor folds his hands in his lap and stares straight ahead, trying to focus on remembering how it was he came to be here. He remembers Asgard and speaking to the warriors and Sif. They ate a meal together, and then parted ways. After that everything is hazy. He chews at the inside of his cheek and leans back into the couch, scrubbing his hands over his face. He shakes his head and hefts himself up off the couch, deciding to find the clothes that (Y/N) had mentioned earlier.
--
“He is freaking out,” I hiss, partially to the mystery voice and partially to myself.
Well it is to be expected, isn’t it?
“Well, yeah, but I still feel bad,” I flip a pancake over and move on to watching over the bacon in the second pan. “Still, I guess it’s better than waking up in the middle of nowhere.”
Exactly.
“But what am I supposed to do?”
Talk to him. Answer his questions as best you can and I’ll try to help out where I am able.
“Will he be able to hear you?”
I don’t think he will. I tried reaching him before coming to you, and it seems that he’s been cut off from Asgard. I’ve been trying to find out how this happened, but at this point I don’t have much to go off of.
I nod and take the bacon off the burner before putting a few pancakes on an empty plate.
You may want to put more than that on his plate. He’ll be starving.
I look down at the five pancakes already on the plate. “Really? There’s still bacon and I was planning on cutting up some fruit to go with it all.”
Trust me on this. I have watched him practically eat a horse after a long battle. He’s going to need more than a small stack of bread, meat shavings and some fruit slices.
I sigh loudly and turn on the oven so I can keep the pancakes warm. “Fine,” I grumble. “I’ll make more pancakes and cook up some sausage links to go with. If he’s still hungry after all that, then I’ll have to go shopping.”
You’ll have to go shopping anyway, seeing as he’ll be there for a while.
I sigh loudly. “You’re right,” I quickly toss the sausage links into the pan that’s still warm from cooking bacon, put it back on the burner, and turn back to the cupboards to find more pancake mix.
“Who are you talking to?” I squeak loudly and slowly turn around, only to find Thor standing in the doorway wearing my father’s clothes.
I shake my head several times in quick succession. “No one.”
“I don’t believe you,” he says darkly, quickly crossing the room and crowding me up against the counter. “Who. Are. You. Talking to?”
Just tell him.
“I don’t know who they are,” I admit. “They won’t tell me their name. Or they can’t, actually. I just know that they’re a god and that I’m the only person who can hear them.”
Thor blinks at me, slowly processing what I’ve just told him, before taking several steps back. He looks around the kitchen, taking in all of the cooking food and Daisy and Charles who had padded in a little while ago to investigate what all the noise was. He takes several deep breaths and scrubs his hands over his face.
“I apologize,” he says. “That was uncalled for.”
I shake my head. “Don’t worry about it, I’d be suspicious too.”
We stand in silence until I smell the sausages burning. I rush past him, quickly urging him to take a seat anywhere at the table. He looks at me, almost amused, but doesn’t say anything as he pulls out a chair and carefully sits down. Daisy and Charles immediately pad over to him. Charles jumps up in his lap and curls up, immediately falling asleep. Daisy bumps her nose against his hand till he strokes her head. Her tongue lols out of her mouth and her tail wags aggressively. I smile to myself and turn back to the stove, flipping the sausages before stepping back to the counter to mix up more pancake batter.
“Do you want chocolate chips?” I ask.
“Hmm?” He looks up from cooing at Daisy and scratching under her chin. “What?”
I cover my mouth with my hand to suppress a laugh. “I asked if you wanted chocolate chips in the second batch of pancakes.”
His eyebrows lift in surprise, but he smiles. “Oh, sure. That sounds nice.”
I smile back and refocus my attention on cooking. I make quick work of cooking up the second batch of pancakes and put the plate in the oven with the first to keep them warm. By the time I finish slicing up oranges and apples, the sausage links are done cooking. I pile the bacon and sausages onto one plate and arranged the fruit slices on the another. Once I’ve got everything on the table, I grab two plates and the butter dish and syrup before taking a seat across the table from Thor. He hesitates in filling up his plate until I assure him that he can have as much as he needs to. He piles his plate high with pancakes, meat and fruit and watches me as I make myself a plate as well. When he’s satisfied that I’m finished, he begins eating.
I eat slowly and tear off bits of bacon to occasionally feed to Daisy. She places her head in my lap, thinking begging will get her more bacon than sitting or laying down when asked. I just wipe off my hands and scratch behind her ears and go back to eating my own food. I watch him in mild amusement as he manages to devour a dozen pancakes and most of the plate of sausage links and bacon. I almost expected watching him eat to be more of a spectacle, but I was wrong.
He wipes his mouth with his napkin and looks up at me. “You’re staring,” he says.
I shake my head, trying to clear away the fuzzy feeling. “Yeah, sorry about that. Not every day I get to sit down to breakfast with a literal god.”
He laughs quietly. “I suppose you’re right. I sometimes forget that I am a god, especially when I am on Earth.” He scratches the back of his head. “To be honest, it’s one of the reasons I love this planet so much.”
“Mmm,” I hum, smiling softly. “Do you know how you ended up in that crater?”
“I was in a crater?” I nod and he laughs. “That’s almost too familiar.”
“That’s exactly what I said, but Mr. Disembodied Voice didn’t seem to think my New Mexico joke was worth a reaction.”
It wasn’t funny.
“It was funny, you just don’t have a sense of humor,” I grumble, poking at my pancake with my fork.
Thor laughs again and I look up at him slightly startled. He meets my eyes momentarily before turning his gaze towards the ceiling. “Give the young woman a break, Heimdall, she’s doing a lot with what little she has.”
“You can hear him?”
He shakes his head. “No, but I do know that there is only one god who can communicate as he does. And only one with as poor a sense of humor as him.”
Tell him that he is a menace.
“He says you’re a menace,” I repeat.Thor just laughs harder. “Is it true that you’re Heimdall?”
It is.
“Cool, all of my bedtime stories are real and they’re inside my head and sitting at my dinner table.” I shake my head, trying to refocus. “Do you remember anything before you landed in the middle of the woods?”
“I remember speaking with my friends,” he says, frowning. “We shared a meal and spoke for quite a while, but everything is quite hazy afterwards.”
“Can you remember what you were talking about?”
“Nothing is solid, but what has stayed with me is the tone. Whatever the conversation about was serious and was not something to ever be discussed outside of our company. After we parted ways, everything is completely blank.” I watch as he chews at the inside of his cheek, willing himself to remember something.
“Hey,” I reach over and cover his hand with mine. His stormy blue eyes meet mine and I feel my heart stutter. “We’ll figure it out, okay? Together.”
He cracks a smile and nods. “Thank you, (Y/N),” He flips his hand over and curls his fingers around mine. “Thank you.”

The Lighthouse (1/??)
Summary: The town is sleepy, the people are nice enough, but life gets turned upsidedown when the God of Thunder literally falls out of the sky.
A/N: Alrighty, so this is going to be a several part fic, but I have yet to know how many parts there will be. Regardless, please enjoy!!
Pairing: ThorxReader
Word Count: 2244
Warnings: None
My dad chose to take over this lighthouse for a reason. For the longest time, I couldn’t understand why. Three years since he’s passed, and I finally understand what really sold him on this place.
Leaning on the railing around the top of the lighthouse, I watch the sun rise across the water. My cat, Charles, winds through my legs before jumping up onto the railing and rubbing his cheek against my shoulder. I scratch under his chin as Daisy sidles up and plops down beside me, leaning heavily against my leg. She acts like a puppy, but the graying fur around her muzzle betrays her.
It's always calm like this in the early hours of the morning. When I wake up to turn off the light, I am gifted with the privilege of watching the world wake up. I wasn't really a morning person until I had to take over maintenance from my father.
He nods. “All the telephone poles and wires are fine. Thankfully no one was hurt either.”
I sigh in relief. “Thank goodness. I was scared we'd have to start a search and rescue. Daisy’s too old to be of much help these days anyway.”
He laughs lightheartedly. “Sure was one helluva storm.” He scratches the back of his neck, his brow furrowing. “Come to think of it, there really shoulda been more damage.”
“Maybe it should have, but it didn’t. Let’s not think about it too much, yeah?” I offer him a smile. “Call it a gift from the gods and hope for the same tonight.”
He shakes his head, a smile replacing his frown. “You’re right. I’m gonna go make my rounds. Call if you need anything, alright?”
“Of course. Tell Hank I said hi!”
He nods once before he climbs into his squad car and drives away. I look up and down the street, only finding evergreen tree debris and a few broken tree branches here and there, but nothing entirely out of the ordinary after a storm of the size we had last night. The sheriff is right, there should be way more damage than there is. The last time something on this scale found us we were clearing streets for almost a week and Ms. Alderson had to have her roof repaired after the wind blew a tree right over and into her house. Maybe we just got lucky? Maybe there really is something or someone looking out for us.
I feel the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stand up. And I shake my head. It has to be electricity built up in the atmosphere from the storm. Either that or a ghost just passed by with a really big balloon and rubbed it all over me without me noticing.
I laugh quietly at the imagery and shake my head once more before crossing the road again and heading back into the lighthouse.
Charles and Daisy are waiting patiently for me at the door. They look at me expectantly and I snort before moving past them to put the dishes from dinner last night in the dishwasher. Behind me, I can hear Daisy’s nails click along the hardwood floor before she flops down with a soft huff. I look over and Daisy has her head resting on her front paws. Charles is curled up on her back. The two of them have been close since we brought Charles home from the shelter. I think it has something to do with Daisy thinking he’s a very small, gray puppy, but I won’t want to say anything and ruin it for her.
Help him.
I whip around, eyes darting around the room, only to find no one there.
I squint at the empty room before drying off my hands and moving on to cleaning up the living room.
There isn’t much to do. I only have to put the pillows back and vacuum. Both Charles and Daisy steer clear of the living room while the vacuum is going. When I finish I decide to refold the blanket on the back of the couch. At this point Charles runs in and curls up on the recliner, ignoring me as I put the vacuum back in the closet.
When I sit down on the couch, Charles decides that my lap is a better resting place than the recliner and plops down on top of me. I roll my eyes and allow my head to fall against the back of the couch.
That was not a request. Help. Him.
The voice comes again. I jolt upright and feel my stomach lurch.
“What?”
Help him.
“Who?”
Unimportant. Help him.
I scowl at nothing, realizing that I’m probably talking to myself.
“Fine. Where is he?”
The forest.
“The one to the east?”
Yes.
I sigh loudly before hauling myself up off of the couch and yanking the closet door open, grabbing my hoodie and shoving my arms into the sleeves. I layer a thick flannel shirt over top and sling my canvas bag over my shoulder. I stomp into the kitchen and put on the rain boots waiting by the back door. Daisy looks up at me as I’m shoving some breakfast into my bag along with my wallet and phone. She lets out a whine and I look over at her, eyebrows raised.
“What?” She whines again, sitting up and looking at me with interest. “You wanna go on an adventure?”
She stands up and barks twice, her entire body wagging. I shake my head and grab my keys from the hook near the door. As soon as the door is open, Daisy brushes past me and pads over to the truck before turning around to look at me expectantly. I snort in amusement and flip the “Welcome” sign over so that it says “Away" before following after my elderly dog and locking the door.
I open them passenger door for Daisy and close it as soon as she's sat herself on the bench seat. I yank open the driver's door and plop down in my own seat before pulling the door closed. I let my bag fall to the floor of the cab, shove the key into the slot and start the engine.
The full effect of the storm is evident as I drive through town.
Bits of tree branches are strewn everywhere, hanging off of telephone wires and stuck in places that seem impossible. People who are out cleaning up the debris wave to me as I drive through and I wave back before moving on.
It takes maybe fifteen minutes to reach the outskirts of town and I’m finally able to turn off onto the highway. Practically stomping on the gas pedal, I tear down the road, trying to reach my destination as quickly as possible. The voice, however disembodied it may be, sounded worried about whoever it was they’ve sent me to help albeit somewhat demanding and impatient.
I can feel the little hairs stand up all over my body like static electricity the closer I get to the forest.
I park on the side of the road, close to the mouth of the trail. I grab my bag and hop out of the truck before moving around to the other side and opening the door for Daisy. As soon as she jumps down from her seat, I close the door and lock the car.
Standing at the head of the trail I scowl at the path that slowly disappears maybe fifty feet in and wonder why the hell I listened to a disembodied voice. Why I'm out here, looking for a mystery man, instead of helping with cleanup and prep for the next major storm that's bound to hit within the next couple of days.
Because you're curious. The voice says. It almost sounds smug.
“Hey, you don't know me.”
I don't have to. You are a human and, therefore, curious by nature.
“Whatever.” I grumble. “It's not like I haven't been labeled the crazy girl before.”
Daisy let's out a soft noise and heads into the forest on the trail.
“Where do you think you're going without me?” I question. Daisy barks once.
Your companion knows where she is going.
“Yeah, shut up.”
I will, if you'll just get on with your task.
I sigh loudly and follow Daisy down the trail. “I swear, if this guy is some kind of psycho murderer, I will riot.”
The voice is silent, but the further I get down the trail, the stronger the feeling of built up static electricity becomes. At one point, I notice small portions of my hair floating up and away from my head and I have to smooth it back down.
Daisy suddenly stops in the middle of the trail, her tail still, nose in the air. She sniffs around before switching to sniffing at the ground.
“What is it?”
She lifts her head again and sniffs the air once more, barks twice, and then races off into the forest.
Worried, I immediately run after her at full speed, doing my best to keep up with her. She turns off the trail abruptly and I almost crash into a patch of blackberry bushes trying to turn in time to follow her. I quickly right myself and stumble through the underbrush, trying to keep Daisy in sight as we push on towards our goal.
I push aside an evergreen bough and almost trip over Daisy where she’s standing at the edge of a clearing. After a moment of flailing arms in an attempt to keep myself balanced, I take stock of the clearing I’m standing in, only to realize it’s not a clearing, but a massive crater.
I let out a low whistle, slowly scanning the crater. “This is some major New Mexico shit,” There’s something in the middle of the crater, smaller than a deer, larger than a wolf, and entirely unmoving. Daisy whines and paces along the edge of the crater. She stops and looks to me before turning her attention to the unmoving figure in the middle of the crater.
You’ll have to go down there.
“I what,”
He’s down there. You have to help him.
“Oh, well that’s fantastic,” I crouch down and slowly inch my way to the edge of the crater, only to lose my footing and slide halfway down the wall before I manage to grab hold of a stray root and stop my progress. I laugh shakily and pull myself up into a sitting position, scrub a hand over my face, and try to compose myself.
Watch your step.
“Thanks, disembodied voice, you’re a great help.”
Gritting my teeth, I manage to haul myself back up to my feet, and I begin to carefully pick my way down the side of the crater. I lose my footing a few times, sandy soil crumbling underneath my boot, but I don’t fall again. I manage to make it to more even ground without any more slip ups and jog over to the figure in the middle of the crater. They’ve got long golden hair and they’re wearing what could look like jeans and a t-shirt if you squint real hard and close one eye.
“Who the hell is this guy?” I mutter, squatting down and carefully rolling him over. His head rolls to the side and I feel my heart stop. The god of thunder is unconscious in my backyard.
