I'm thinking of taking some time away from the Shadowhunter fandom for a while besides writing fic.

This would be a break from the fandom, not the books.

I would probably come back once I receive and read A Sea Change, if not earlier :)

I haven't decided if this is happening yet but I've been thinking of doing so for a while and just saw a post that might have pushed me over the edge.

There are a lot of reasons for this. The primary ones are:

Larger negative fandom attitudes toward TLH getting to me more than normal because I'm stressed about life

Excessive Will hate that has gotten ridiculous in recent weeks

The extremely terrible way that many fans behaved in the Kickstarter comments leaving a really sour taste in my mouth for the past several months

I also simply don't want to be spoiled for the Matthew novella and am one of the last people to get my books (which I'm not complaining about! It is what it is, someone had to be last, and I just don't want to be spoiled.)

If I do this:

I will still be writing TSC fic (probably Thomastair, Herondaisy, and Sophideon.) I will probably still post that fic on here.

You can DM me about TSC and I'll still be totally happy to chat about it.

The break will probably only last a couple of months at most. I'll be back soon

This blog will still post about Dead Boy Detectives and some other things! We can still be buds! You'd just see a notable lack of TSC content from me.

If I'm not back by then, I'll still post about Ragpicker King :)

Oh, and a word for Thomastair: Um,,, pearl!

This is part of another longer fic idea I've had in mind for weeks where Thomas and Alastair go to Italy. After we met yesterday, I just knew that I had to use this for the prompt you asked :)

Thomas had never been on an actual beach before, so the day after he and Alastair arrived in Italy, the first thing they did was packing their bags with towels and food and go swimming in the bright blue Mediterranean sea.

They were walking on the shore when something picked Thomas’ interest and he couldn’t help but taking it in his hands to inspect it. “Look what I found,” he said to a curious Alastair, “it looks like an oyster.”

Alastair didn’t know much about seashells, but he believed that Thomas could be right. “It is really interesting,” he commented.

“There is no pearl inside,” Thomas said with disappointment after opening it, not really sure what he was expecting inside the shell.

“You are a pearl, hamsaram,” Alastair said, and that was enough to make Thomas forget about the oyster altogether.

Thomastair Soulmate AU

Alastair sat in his room, when he felt it, a sharp pain, then a gentle tingle. He stared in wonder at his left arm, watching the beginning of a tattoo form. A rose shape had appeared by the time he was called to dinner, and he rushed to cover it up. It was a sign of soulmates after all, and he wanted to keep this a secret. Just as he had kept the brown streak of hair that had come in a secret. He walked downstairs to join his mother and Cordelia.  

“….Black is so common Layla. I do hope we know him.. he is a Shadowhunter though. We know that because of the parabatai rune.” His mother was saying.  

“Yes, yes. Black is common. Cordelia’s soulmate is a Shadowhunter. We don’t know if her soulmate is romantic or platonic, boy or girl yet. She could have both a romantic and platonic. We’ll have to wait and see.” Alastair said as he sat down 

Cordelia turned to her older brother “You don’t have to be rude about it, ya know. And because you were too busy pouting in your room, you missed the news. We are moving to London! I will finally be able to be parabatai with Lucie!”  

London. Which meant being in proximity to Charles. How would he be able to keep his secret living a mere carriage ride away? He finished his dinner quickly, rushing back up to his room to watch the rose complete. It had been difficult to feel the tingling, to hide it from his mother during dinner. He marveled at the eight points that had formed, and now some letters were forming. N was at the top, on the rightmost side was E, the bottom had the letter S, and the left had W. While it was nearly complete, Alastair began to panic. He recognized the design, had been shown it when he was in Paris. Alastair knew right now who his soulmate was. Thomas Lightwood. He now had to hide the mark from Charles, so he wouldn’t wonder where the mark came from and why he didn’t also get one.  

In theory, when the brown came in among his dyed blonde, he knew that Charles wasn’t his soulmate back when he didn’t get a streak of fiery red. He never processed it. Calm down Alastair, he thought, Thomas might be your platonic soulmate. But when he thought about that week in Paris, he knew. Thomas was his romantic soulmate, not platonic. Thomas was his one love in life.

Fanfiction Masterlist

Since I was asked about my fanfics and where to find them, I decided to make a Masterlist. Maybe it will be easier for you and myself.

The Last Flowers

A series which integrates and corrects TLH canon. It comprises four long fics, a collection of missing moments one-shots and three oneshots as epilogues. I'm writing this series with @fimproda (A_WriterInSTEM on Ao3).

This series has many delicate themes, so, please, read all the TWs before reading.

Here are the single fanfics of this series:

Hydrangea: the 1st longfic, it's mostly about Gracetopher (kind of). Set between Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron. [Complete]

Daisy: the 2nd longfic, it's mostly about Jordelia, but unlike canon they can talk to each other like normal human beings. Set during Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron. [Ongoing, 5/6 chapters]

Chrysanthemum: the 3rd longfic, it will be a correction of all the nonsense that happens in Chain of Thorns. It will be about Gracetopher and Jordelia, but also AriAanna and Thomastair will have a minor role. (Not published yet).

Petals: a collection of one shots of missing moments from the rest of the long fics. [Ongoing, 3/6 chapters]

Geranium: I like to call it Hydrangea AU, it starts with the same premise but it goes in a totally different direction. It's mostly about Cecily and Grace having a mother-daughter relationship, but Gracetopher is a secondary relationship and AriAnna will have a minor role later on. It's independent from the rest of TLF and can be read separately. [Ongoing, 4/8 chapters]

Levander: the Thomastair epilogue, set after Chrysanthemum. (Not published yet).

Acacia: the AriAnna epilogue, set after Chrysanthemum. (Not published yet).

Night-blooming Jasmine: the Gracetopher epilogue, set after Chrysanthemum. (Not published yet).

Daffodil: Matt's epilogue, set after Chrysanthemum. (Not published yet).

Exothermic: a Bridgerton-like fanfic that starts from the premise "What if Cecily got Herondale Manor instead of Will?" [Complete]

How (not) to end a feud: a fanfic where the clave is tired of the Lightwood-Blackthorn feud and decides to settle the matter down with a wedding. [Complete]

It's always been you: a collection of short one shots (500-1500 words) for the Gracetopher Week 2024. Mostly sports-related AUs. [Complete]

Endless Sunlight: a fanfic set after ChoT where Grace is obsessed by the idea of finding Christopher in another dimension, but once she arrives there she finds out that Christopher isn't the same kind and caring guy he was in her universe. Or, the self indulgent villain!Christopher fanfic. [Ongoing, 20/21 chapters]

What happens in the lab... : a PWP fanfic.

What happens in the carriage... : another PWP fanfic.

What happens in the hotel room... : the return of PWP.

Gabrily

Still insists she sees the ghosts: Cecily is accused of something she didn't do and her tale goes through two different parts of her life. [Ongoing, 4/8 chapters]

Bad luck: Morden!AU, it should be a commedy but my humour is broken and I can't gaurantee other people will find it funny. (Not published yet)

Across the PWPverse: a series of 3 PWP one shots connected with each other, but that can be read separately.

That one time in Chiswick Manor: a PWP where Cecily goes to Benedict Lightwood’s party and meets an interesting person.

That one time in the Institute: a PWP where Gabriel owes a favour to Cecily.

That one time in Southampton: a PWP where Gabriel is forced to admit that he’s wrong about something.

Lightwood family (Gabrily)

Balance: Modern!AU, no plot. Just Cecily Lightwood trying to balance work, marriage, motherhood and life in general. It will be a collection of short one shots (about 500/1000 words each) independent from each other. [Ongoing, 4/35 chapters].

So I LOVE Book Lovers, right. My favourite EH book. But I'm on page 90 of Funny Story and I think it's usurping it as my #1.

Also! What TSC ships do each of her books make you think of? Herondaisy is DEFINITELY PWMOV. I think that Funny Story is Sizzy so far

funny story is SOOOOO good, it's tied with pwmov as my #1. i think i like pwmov the tiniest bit more because i've had more time to be obsessed with it, but funny story is genuinely sosososo good so i hope you enjoy it!! lmk your thoughts when you finish/as you go along!

oooooh i loveeee this question! you're right, herondaisy is definitely pwmov (i've actually been writing the au the past week and enjoying it immensely). happy place also makes me think of them, but for the sake of choosing one ship per book i'm gonna go with thomastair for happy place because of the second chance of it all.

book lovers is very wessa to me - i can totally picture them working in publishing and bickering constantly until they don't. as for funny story, i think you're right, sizzy is the best fit.

beach read is a complicated one because 1) it was my first eh book and i read it three years ago so i don't remember much and 2) it's also my least favourite eh book so i don't think about it much. so i actually don't know. no one in tsc is really a writer like that. i guess wessa might work, mostly because of how passionate they are about books and that's the closest thing to writing, but book lovers is a better fit for them in my mind, so yeah. does beach read make you think of any tsc ship?

Give us some Thomastair headcanons post-ChoT!

These are more than a few and someday they might turn into fan fictions maybe 👀💙

I probably said this several times and hinted it in my fics, but Thomas can't cook to save his life 😂 he once tried to prepare something easy after he asked the cook who works for the Lightwoods, but he almost set the kitchen on fire. Alastair promised him that he would try to teach him, but so far they didn't have enough time for that

Alastair is not a heavy sleeper and he hates being tickled (sometimes Thomas likes to wake him up with tickles)

They have a "games night" at the Lightwoods every two weeks. Alastair discovered that Thomas is super competitive when it comes to board games, but he can easily distracted if he eats while he plays lol

They adopted two cats, even though Alastair silently curses when they leave fur all over his black outfits. For this reason, Thomas suggested him to switch his wardrobe to different colors and to ask Matthew for advice, but Alastair refused. (He only lets Thomas pick his ties for now)

They went to Spain more than once and Thomas showed Alastair around Madrid. They decided to that they would visit at least one artistic city or country per year

One time they almost fell into the Serpentine because Thomas wanted to go boating but their little boat was damaged so they had to go back before the ship would sink lmao

A few years after Zachary was born, a neighbor of Sona at Cirenworth who decided to move to the city decided to gift his three horses to their family. It turned out Thomas didn't know how to ride (James was the only one who owned horses among their group). Alastair knew how to ride because when he was a child his mother taught him and Cordelia, and now he taught Thomas - even though if you ask Thomas, he'd rider ride on the same horse as Alastair

They have matching rings that symbolize their union. They exchanged their vows one night by themselves, and then threw an intimate party to celebrate with family and friends

Thomas likes to write poetry about Alastair, and Alastair writes music to go along with Thomas' poems

I'm very much "books, and occasional fanfiction. " I read like 2-3 books a week, and while I enjoy fanfiction and think that there's a lot of stuff out there that's better than published books, I'm so attached to my own headcanons and to canon compliance that I only will really read fic if it scratches a very specific itch. I also basically only read fic for Thomastair, Wessa, and periodic Gracetopher if I'm feeling it. I always feel bad for writing and not reading
