Unveiled Secrets
Summary: The BAU team has a sneaking suspicion that their stoic leader, Aaron Hotchner, is in a relationship, but they don't know the extent of it.
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x fem!Reader
Category: Fluff
Content Warnings: Jack and Haley do not exist in this, kissing, cuddling, allusions to sex, light teasing, use of Y/N, pet names (my love, baby), thatโs it I think, lmk if I missed any! Oh and pure fluff!
Word Count: 1.8k
Mars speaksโฆ hi my loves, I was motivated to write so I am using this to figure out my writing style a bit and how I want to format my works! Iโve been going through a bit of a Hotch phase lately so I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Masterlist
The BAU office was slowly quieting down as the day turned to dusk, the last rays of sunlight casting long shadows across the desks. Aaron Hotchner, head of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, stood in his office, the soft light of his desk lamp highlighting the stress lines that had deepened over the years. He checked his watchโalmost time to go home. A rare, soft smile touched his lips, a sight reserved for only one person.
He closed the case file on his desk, slipping it neatly into his briefcase before reaching for his jacket. His phone buzzed just as he picked it up, and he glanced at the screen to see a text from you, Canโt wait to see you. Should I pick up dinner?
That smile of his deepened as he quickly typed a reply, Iโll pick it up on my way home. See you soon, my love.
He hadnโt planned on keeping his relationship with you a secret, nor did he have any grand strategy for revealing it. He assumed that given time, his team would figure it out on their own. After all, they were profilersโeventually, they would notice the subtle shifts in his behaviour, the unexplained absences, the slightly more relaxed demeanour after particularly stressful cases. He hadnโt intended to hide it forever, just until they pieced it together.
As he opened the door to his office, however, he nearly collided with Spencer Reid, who was walking by, engrossed in a file. Reid looked up, startled, his eyes wide with surprise.
"Sorry, Hotch! I didnโt see you there."
"Itโs alright, Reid," Hotch replied, a calmness in his voice that belied the momentary flicker of surprise in his eyes. He wasnโt often caught off-guard, especially not in the safety of his own office.
Reid, however, had a habit of noticing things others missed. His eyes flickered to the phone still in Hotchโs hand, the screen just dimming from inactivity. Before Hotch could slip it into his pocket, Reidโs sharp eyes caught your name on the screen. His brow furrowed in confusion as he processed the information.
โY/N, as in the academyโs Y/N?โ Reid asked, the question out of his mouth before he could stop himself.
Hotch froze for a fraction of a second, but it was enough for Reidโs sharp mind to pick up on the anomaly. Reidโs brain worked at lightning speed, connecting dots that others might have missed. He knew Hotch was fiercely private, but this reaction was new.
โGoodnight Reidโ Aaron replied, quickly, shutting down any further questioning that may have come from the young genius.
Reid blinked, taken aback, but his curiosity was now piqued. However, years of working with Hotch had taught him when to push and when to back off. โHave a good evening, Hotch.โ
As Reid walked away, Hotch let out a slow breath. This wasnโt how he wanted the team to find out, though he couldnโt say he was surprised. He had always assumed it would be Reid who would notice first; the young profiler missed nothing. Still, he had hoped for a bit more time. But the cat was out of the bag now, and he knew it wouldnโt be long before the rest of the team found out.
The next morning, the BAU office was abuzz with more than the usual activity. Reidโs brief encounter with Hotch had set off a flurry of curiosity and speculation among the team. They were profilers, after all, and even the smallest clues could ignite their imaginations.
โIโm telling you, somethingโs definitely going on with Hotch,โ Reid said as the team gathered in the bullpen before their morning briefing. He couldn't shake the image of your name on Hotch's phone from his mind.
JJ, trying to keep things under control, said, โCome on, guys, it could just be a friend. It doesnโt have to mean anything.โ
Morgan leaned back in his chair, a knowing grin on his face. โReidโs onto something. Hotch has been acting a bit differently lately. Heโs not staying late like he used to.โ
โAnd heโs been smiling more often,โ Garcia added, her excitement barely contained. โThe manโs practically glowing sometimes.โ
Rossi, with a teasing tone, suggested, โMaybe heโs just getting better sleep. But I have to admit, thereโs definitely something different.โ
Garciaโs eyes sparkled with excitement. โDonโt you want to know? If Hotch is seeing someone, thatโs huge!โ
Rossi shrugged, still smirking. โOf course, Iโm curious. But letโs give him some space. If he wants us to know, heโll tell us. And if weโre lucky, we might even get to meet her.โ
Prentiss grinned, "Do you think itโs serious? Like, sheโs โthe oneโ?โ
โI think,โ Rossi said thoughtfully, โif Aaron is keeping this under wraps, itโs because itโs important to him. He wouldnโt be so secretive if it wasnโt serious.โ
Just then, Hotch entered the bullpen, and the conversation quickly shifted to a quieter, more focused buzz. The team members turned to their desks, but the air was charged with unspoken questions and speculative glances. Hotch, sensing the change in atmosphere, gave a brief nod before heading to his office.
As the day dragged on with paperwork and case briefings, the undercurrent of curiosity remained. The team exchanged looks, clearly eager to discuss Hotchโs secret, but they were careful to avoid bringing it up directly. The excitement about Hotchโs personal life was palpable, and everyone was waiting for the right moment to address the topic.
Later that evening, Aaron finally headed home after a long day. As he walked through the front door, he found you curled up on the couch, a blanket draped over your legs, and a glass of wine in your hand. You looked up from the book you were reading, a smile spreading across your face when you saw him.
โHi, baby, how was your day?โ you asked, setting the book aside as he walked over to you.
โTiring,โ he admitted, leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead. โAnd eventful. Reid saw a text from you last night.โ
Your eyes widened in surprise. โOh no. What did he say?โ
โHe asked if it was from you,โ Aaron said, sitting down beside you. โI shut him down, but I think I gave myself away. The teamโs been acting strange all day.โ
You chuckled, leaning your head on his shoulder. โSo, theyโre onto us?โ
He nodded, slipping an arm around you and pulling you closer. โIt was bound to happen eventually. I just didnโt expect it to be now.โ
โIโm surprised they didnโt figure it out sooner,โ you said, your fingers tracing patterns on his chest. โThey are profilers, after all.โ
He smiled down at you, his expression softening. โI never planned on keeping it a secret forever. I just figured theyโd figure it out on their own time.โ
โSo, whatโs the plan?โ you asked with a playful grin.
He sighed, his thumb rubbing gentle circles on your shoulder. โI suppose itโs time to tell them. Theyโre already curious, and Iโd rather they hear it from me than through rumours.โ
โYou know theyโll be happy for you,โ you said, squeezing his hand. โFor us.โ
โI know,โ he agreed. โBut thereโs a part of me thatโs nervous. Iโve always kept my personal life separate from work, but with youโฆ itโs different.โ
You leaned up and kissed him softly, the warmth of the moment lingering between you. โWeโll do it together, then. When youโre ready.โ
Aaronโs gaze softened, but a playful glint sparkled in his eyes as he pulled you closer. โRight now, I want to do anything but think about the team,โ his voice dropped to a low murmur.
You felt the heat of his words and smiled, leaning in closer. โSounds perfect,โ you whispered, as he nuzzled against you, his lips brushing yours with a grin.
A few days later, Rossi had decided to host a dinner party for the team. The team was eager to catch up and enjoy the evening. Aaron knew it was the perfect opportunity to introduce you to the team as his girlfriend.ย
As the doorbell rang, Rossi answered the door to find Hotch standing beside you. As you both entered the living room, the atmosphere in the room shifted instantly as Hotch introduced you with a genuine smile.
โIโd like you to meet Y/N, my girlfriend,โ Hotch said, his voice steady but warm.ย
The room fell into a stunned silence before erupting into excitement. Garciaโs face lit up with recognition and delight. โOh my God! Itโs Y/N! I knew it was someone! This is incredible!โ
Morganโs grin widened as he approached. โSo, this is the elusive woman behind Hotchโs new smile! Youโve been keeping us in the dark for too long, Hotch.โ
JJ smiled warmly as she extended her hand. โItโs wonderful to finally meet you, Y/N, weโre really happy for both of you.โ
Reid, ever the profiler, couldnโt resist asking, โHow long have you two been together?โ
Hotch laughed softly, putting an arm around you and smiling fondly. โAlmost five months now. Y/N works as the unit chief for the BSU in the academy. I met her when she invited me to guest lecture.โ
Garciaโs eyes sparkled with excitement. โI knew it! You two have that perfect power couple vibe. We have to plan another get-together so we can hang out more!โ
Rossi, enjoying the moment, gave Hotch a friendly pat on the back. โWell, I guess this means you wonโt be around for poker nights as often.โ
Hotch chuckled. โIโll still make time for poker nights, donโt worry.โ
As the evening continued, the team enjoyed getting to know you better. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, light-hearted teasing, and genuine happiness for Hotch and you.
โSo, when do we get to do this again?โ Garcia asked eagerly.
Hotch smiled, feeling content. โSoon. Weโve been talking about having you all over for dinner. Now seems like the perfect time.โ
As the team chatted and enjoyed the evening, Aaron felt a weight lift off his shoulders. Introducing you to his team had been a significant step, but their warmth and support made it all worthwhile. The thought of merging his work family with his personal life filled him with quiet joy.
As the party wound down and the team began to leave, Morgan gave Hotch a sly grin. โYou know, Hotch, weโre happy for you, but donโt think we wonโt give you a hard time about keeping this a secret for so long.โ
Hotch chuckled, appreciating the camaraderie. โI wouldnโt expect anything less.โ
With that, the team said their goodbyes and headed home, their spirits high. Hotch followed them, feeling grateful for the support of his team and looking forward to the future with you.
Mars speaks... (again) Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! Also, would anyone be interested if I wrote for other fandoms such as F1 and Marvel? Any feedback is greatly appreciated๐ซถ

I choose you.
Sneak peek: After a one-night stand, you find yourself pregnant. You choose to take some time off to get your life in order (aka ready for a baby), when Hotch stops by to make sure youโre okay. You confide in him and after a late night of talking, and months of mutual pining, Hotch offers to help you raise the baby. With this newfound dynamic, how will Hotch handle you working in the field? How will your lives change?
Aaron Hotchner x (Fem) Reader
Fluff/Angst
Word count: 7599 (OMFG sorry)
REQUESTS ARE OPEN - not edited I've been working on this for so long...I did my best- please be kind. Requests are open and feedback is welcome if it's constructive!
Warnings: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! My blog is 18+, minors DNI, implied age gap (kinda?), secret relationship, mention of period and menstrual cycle, mention of doctors and hospitals, mention of typical pregnancy related care, secret pregnancy, mention of pregnancy, Hotch being a little smothering lol, mentions of canon typical violence, some language, team members meddling, mention of Jack, no mention of Hailey (she just doesnโt exist in this โ Hotchย has always been a single dad), no use of y/n. I think thatโs all, let me know if I missed any!
I do not consent to having my work translated or reposted to any other site. That being said I do not own the characters portrayed in this story.
โHey, youโre looking a little green there sugar.โ Morgan said, gently nudging your elbow.
โYeah girl, keep it to your side!โ Emily laughed, pushing your file further onto your desk.
โAlright, if I was contagious, donโt you think youโd all be sick by now? It has to be from something I ateโฆI guess itโs time to clean out the fridge.โ Shaking your head you got back to work.
โYou know the most common causes of nausea and vomiting are infections (like the stomach flu), food poisoning, motion sickness, pregnancy, and migraines. We can rule out the stomach flu given that none of us have gotten sick, and motion sickness since we havenโt travelled in a few days. Iโd say food poisoning seems most likely, and it should pass soon given that it typically lasts anywhere from 12-48 hours.โ Spencer rattled off.
โThanks Spence.โ You smiled.
Your mind began spiraling, this little bout of vomiting had been going on for far longer than 48 hours. Was it possible something at home was contaminated and youโd had โnever-endingโ food poisoning? You thought about the other conditions Spencer had mentioned, no to the stomach flu, no to motion sickness, probably not food poisoning. You had migraines, but definitely werenโt currently suffering from a spellโฆso that left. Nope. No way.
Could it be possible? When was your last period? Shit. You pulled out your phone and opened the Flo app and your last charted period wasโฆEIGHT WEEKS AGO. What the fuck? How had you missed that? ย After pondering for a few minutes, you realized that around that time, the team had a particularly tough case where children were being kidnapped from malls in Alabama. The case had a happy ending, but it had taken seven days for you to catch the guy.ย You had chalked up the missed cycle to stress โ it happened sometimes.
After excusing yourself, you made your way to the bathroom. While in the bathroom, you made two calls, one to your primary care physician, and then one to the OBGYN that they referred you to. Thankfully (pure luck truly) they had an opening tomorrow morning.
You quickly made your way to Hotchโs office to see if he would allow you to come in late tomorrow. He was usually understanding about these things since you guys really have to take any doctorโs appointments you can get with your ridiculous schedule.
You knocked on the door frame softly, taking note of his nod, granting permission to enter. You walked cautiously to his desk, trying to work out the phrasing of this request in your head.
โI can hear the gears turning in your head, whatโs going on?โ Hotch questioned.
โSorry Hotch, I uh, I just have a quick question for you.โ You began. โYou see, I havenโt been feeling great the last few days, so I called my doctor, and they can squeeze me in tomorrow first thing. Would it be possible for me to come in late so I can make that appointment?โ
โIs that all? Of course, just come in when you can.โ He finally met your gaze, offering a subtle smile.
**8 weeks pregnant**
You sat, bare legs causing the sterile paper beneath you to crinkle, the noise seemed to echo in the otherwise silent room. You had left a urine sample when you first arrived at the office, and they had just taken a blood sample. The nurse had asked you a million questions and you had to fill out nearly 20 different forms.
โAlright, so the urine test came back as positive for pregnancy.โ The doctor informed you.
โWow, um okay. So, what are the next steps?โ
โWell, we are going to send your blood in to check your HCG levels amongst other things, that will give us a pretty good estimate as to how far along you are. We will give you a call when those results come in. I am going to send you home with some literature on what foods, medication, drinks, over all activities to avoid as well as some recommendations for prenatal vitamins and a prescription for some anti-nausea medication. There is also a card in there with the triage number in case of an emergency. So, what questions do you have for me?โ The doctor concluded.
โI uh, when will I need to come back in? Also, I am a field agent with the FBI, I guess Iโll probably need a doctorโs note as proof of pregnancy, and then one later down the line I suppose, excusing me from duty.โ You inquired.
โOnce we get your HCG levels and can get a better idea of how far along you are, we will give you that call and then we will schedule your next appointment. Based on your last cycle, we will probably have you come back pretty soon for a transvaginal ultrasound and then your following appointment would be around your 12-week mark. As for work, I can get you that document now and then yes, as your pregnancy progresses we will discuss changes that will have to be made at work. Did you need a note for today?โ She answered.
โOkay, that sounds good. And yeah, a note for today would be great. Thank you.โ
Thoughts were racing through your head, the things youโd have to buy, getting your apartment prepared, telling the father (what was his name againโฆMichael? Brady? Youโd have to figure that one out), telling your boss and the team, the changes to your body? Oh god, what have you gotten yourself into?
The second you stepped off the elevator your stomach twisted, and you darted to the bathroom. After emptying the contents of your stomach, you rinsed your mouth out and made your leave. What you werenโt expecting was Hotch on the other side of the door.
โOh, sorry Hotch.โ
โNo need to apologize, I just wanted to see that you were alright. JJ let me know she saw you running in here.โ He explained.
โI-Iโm not feeling too great honestly. Do you think, maybe, I could head home for the day?โ you queried.
โI think that is a good idea, you should get some rest. You know, you have a bunch of time off saved up โ Iโm not telling you to use it, but if you wanted to, itโs there. Do you need a ride home?โ He asked.
โNo, I think Iโm okay. And I also think I am going to take you up on that suggestion. Do you think I could take like the next four days?โ
โAbsolutely, Iโll submit your time. You head home and get some rest. Iโll let Garcia know, that way she wonโt call you if a case comes in.โ He said.
โThanks Hotch.โ
โYouโre welcome. Do me a favor, let me know when you get home safe.โ He requested.
**9 weeks pregnant**
The next four days passed by in a blur, you had read through all the information the OBGYN sent you home with, youโd gone and picked up your medications from the pharmacy, cleaned your house, went grocery shopping, and you gotten your results back from the doctor. You had gotten the call yesterday that your HCG levels had placed you between 8 and 9 weeks pregnant and you had scheduled your ultrasound for the following Wednesday. Youโd have to tell Hotch everything when youโre back at work tomorrow.
You also made a very awkward phone call to Jensen (damn, you were wayyy off) and he had been very pleased when you informed him that you didnโt want anything from him, he agreed that it would probably be best that way. You didnโt need to be tied to some one-off forever anyway, this was for the best. You just hoped your child wouldnโt resent you for not having a present father.
A knock at your door shook you from your thoughts. You checked your phone, 7:32 p.m. and a notification from Uber Eats that your tacos had been delivered! You paused your movie and shuffled to the door, checking the peephole once, then twice to confirm the identity of this visitor. You made quick work of unlocking and opening the door.
โAaron? What are you doing here?โ
โI came to see how you were feeling. I also ran into your delivery guy.โ He explained.
โCome in, I ordered enough for two if youโre hungry?โ You posed.
โI wouldnโt want to impose.โ He shook his head.
โNot at all, come on in.โ
You quickly realized that you were in sweats, a t-shirt, and slippers. You looked to Aaron taking note of his jeans and t-shirt. Casual looks good on him; youโd always thought so. You offered him a drink and invited him over to the couch, making yourselves comfortable and digging in. To the others, this may seem odd, a late-night taco date with your boss and your couch, but this was your normal.
You and Aaron had quickly realized your similarities when you first joined the team. You both had a stone exterior with a warm and fuzzy interior, you were closed off, but loyal and caring. These are the similarities that made your fast friendship so easy. The two of you hung out often, you had regular dinners together, went to movies or had movie nights, you went to the park with him and Jack, and sometimesโฆyou even slept over. You didnโt share a bed or anything โ except once when you first moved to your current apartment โ your guest room hadnโt been set up yet. He was easily the person you were closest to, which is why it was terrifying to love him. You couldnโt lose him. So, you bottled up your feelings and enjoyed these moments with him.
โSo, youโre feeling better then?โ
You opened your mouth to reply when you felt it. That tightening lurch in your stomach. You brought your hand to cover your mouth and jumped up, desperate to get to your bathroom. You had barely made it before you were expelling your dinner into the porcelain bowl. You heaved until there was nothing left. It was only then that you felt the warmth of his hands brushing your hair back and rubbing circles over your spine. You slowly sat up and rested back against the bathtub, Aaron leaned against the counter.
โI guess itโs a good time to mention we have a mandated weekend off. I figured you were feeling better if you had ordered tacos.โ Aaron teased.
โI was feeling better. And thank God. I could use the extra two days to get my shit together.โ You laughed.
โWhat did the doctor say?โ He questioned.
โWell, she uhโฆโ You started.
โI shouldnโt have asked that, Iโm sorry.โ He apologized.
โNo, Aaron itโs okay. I just โ I found out that Iโm pregnant.โ You blurted.
โOh, thatโs โ wow congrats. I didnโt realize youโd started seeing someone.โ He muttered.
โThanks, and Iโm not. It was just some guy I met while we were in Alabama.โ You grumbled.
With Aaronโs assistance, you made your way back to the couch, not before quickly brushing your teeth. After he saw that you were settled, he went to the kitchen and grabbed your anti-nausea pills, some crackers and a ginger ale for you.
The two of you sat and talked for hours, you told him about your doctorโs appointment and the phone call with Jensen. You expressed your excitement and nervousness, both of which he met with reassurance. Aaron was quick to tell you he thought youโd make a great mother and that he, along with the rest of the BAU, would be there for you every step of the way.
The night continued on with the two of you curled up on the couch watching movies, Aaron refilling your ginger ale as needed throughout the evening. Your position had shifted slightly the longer you sat there, you had laid down, your head resting on a pillow against Aaronโs thigh, his hand delicately running through your hair. You turned your head to look up at him, the movement drawing his gaze to you.
โCan I tell you something?โ You asked.
โAnything.โ He whispered.
โIโm scared to do this alone. I donโt want the kid to grow up and hate me because they donโt have a dad. Plus, I always thought when I had kids, Iโd be settledโฆya know?โ You spoke softly.
โYouโre not alone in this.โ He replied.
โI know Aaron, thatโs not what I meant.โ you sighed.
โI could do it.โ
โWhat?โ You sat up abruptly, turning to look him in the eyes.
โI could raise the baby with you, I mean if you want. I just, I always wanted a big family, and Jack has asked about having a sibling on more than one occasion, plus weโre close alreadyโฆโ He rambled.
โYou would do that for me?โ You gasped.
โOf course I would, Iโd do anything for you.โ He smiled softly.
โSo how would this work?โ You questioned.
โItโs late, why donโt we head to bed, and we can talk logistics in the morning.โ He said, patting your knee.
โOkay.โ You smiled.
You woke up the next morning and had to remind yourself that last night was real, Aaron had in fact offered to raise your baby with you. You got out of bed and padded your way to the kitchen. Upon entering you were met with the sight of Aaron in his sweats and a T-shirt, gliding around your kitchen, making breakfast. This felt so domestic, and you couldnโt help the pain in your chest at the fact that this isnโt.
โGood morning!โ You greeted.
โGood morning! How did you sleep?โ He replied.
โI slept well thanks. You?โ
โPretty good actually. So, how are you feeling about my offer?โ He queried.
โIโd like to take you up on it, as long as itโs still on the table. But I think we need to lay out some ground rules, or at least figure out how we would do this.โ You explained.
โWeโre doing this then! And I agree, we need to sort out all the details.โ Aaron suggested.
Aaron and you talked about it a lot over the next few hours and had come to an agreement on nearly all subjects. Aaron would attend doctorโs appointments with you, the child would be raised by you and Aaron and for all intents and purposes, Aaron would be known as dad, when the kid is old enough, you agreed that honesty is crucial, and youโd explain that Aaron isnโt their biological dad. You had agreed on bringing the child up in a loving home and allowing your child to find their own way in religion and politics, neither of you fond of pushing either of those things on a kid. You had also agreed on the importance of education, family time, immunizations, etc.. There were a few things though, that you still werenโt sure of.
โSo, Aaron, I guess I am just curious on how we would address a few things. Like with the team or anyone that asks โ youโre the father? Or do we tell them there was a sperm donor? Are we honest about the situation? And what about us? Everyone is going to think weโre together. Also, the living situation, you mentioned you want to be around to help but going back and forth from my place to yours, itโs not fair to us or to Jack, what do we do?โ You rattled on.
โOkay, slow down. I think with the team and family, we can tell them the truthโฆto anyone else, Iโm the father. If thatโs okay with you? For the living situation, I ugh well I was thinking, maybe we find a house? I know how crazy that sounds, but I would be closer to you to help out and Jack could be close to his sibling, at least for a while. It wouldnโt have to be permanent.โ He let out a nervous chuckle. โAs for us, I donโt want to complicate things sweetheart. I canโt say Iโve never thought about usโฆmaybe we just take it day by day.โ Aaron was trying to gauge your reaction.
โThat all sounds perfect. We will take it day by day, see where this journey takes us.โ You say, reaching to hold Aaronโs hand.
Aaron brings your hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss to the back of it. You canโt help the heat that rises to your cheeks. His admission of thinking of the two of you as more than friends, lingers in your mind. You wondered how long heโd been thinking like that but figured you could ask him another time. The bubble you were currently in was far too precious to burst.
โSo, should we start house hunting?โ
Aaron chucked at your excitement and nodded happily.
**15 weeks pregnant**
The two of you agreed to wait to tell the team, at least until you had settled into your roles as co-parents. You also wanted to wait until you had progressed further in your pregnancy before you shared the news with not only the team, but also Jack. You had expressed to Aaron that you were worried Jack wouldnโt take the news well and he had assured you that Jack would be thrilled with the prospect of having a sibling. Aaron had also informed you that Jack had asked if you could be his new mom once your friendship had grown.
Things had been going well, it had been almost two months since you guys had agreed to do this together and you couldnโt be happier. Aaron had gone to your appointments with you, and thatโs where you were currently headed. You had your 15-week appointment today, youโd also be doing some tests to ensure the baby is healthy.
โAlright, did you guys want to find out the babyโs sex today?โ
You looked over at Aaron, and he met you with a subtle nod of confirmation. You had discussed this on the way over today.
โYes we would!โ
โYou are having a girl, congratulations!โ The doctor smiled and made her leave.
Aaron was quick to lean down and embrace you. You were shedding tears of joy, beaming with excitement. He pressed a chaste kiss to your temple and pulled away.
โI wanted it to be a surprise, I scheduled a showing with our realtor. I think youโre really going to like this one!โ Aaron gushed.
Aaron drove you over to the most adorable home, judging from the curb appeal, you were thinking his assumption was correct. He helped you out of the vehicle and led you into the home, your realtor was waiting for you just inside the foyer.
โMr. and Mrs. Hotchner, welcome! Please take your time to look around, I will be in the kitchen if you need anything. Aaron, I am going to make a few calls and see what weโre looking at for this one.โ Bradley informed.
The two of you agreed to act as a married couple when looking into homes, Aaron had suggested that newlyweds with a baby on the way might be more appealing to a seller. Though things between you definitely felt more like that was becoming your truth as opposed to this fantasy youโd act out when in the presence of Bradley.
Looking around, Aaron led you around the house, showing you each of the rooms on the first floor, then the second. You ended up in the master bedroom, making your way out on the balcony that overlooks the backyard.
โSo, I was thinking, the two rooms downstairs, one would be my office, and the other could be a sort of den or library. Up here, Jack could have that first room, the second could be a nursery, and then the other two well theyโd be ours, or one could be a guest room.โ Aaron offered.
โIf we made one a guest room, that would mean that weโฆweโd share this room? Aaron Hotchner are you suggesting that we share a room?โ You teased.
โMaybe I am.โ He declared.
You had been playing this game of cat and mouse for the last three weeks. It had started after you had kissed. It happened in the heat of the moment, the two of you were fighting over him subtly benching you from work, you had explained you were fine to which he admitted how important you were to him and that he couldnโt afford to lose you. Upon this revelation, youโd shared a passionate kiss. An action that you hadnโt discussed or repeated since then.
โWell, I think that could work.โ You nudged him gently. โThis house is perfect honey.โ
โShould we go talk to Bradley?โ He posed.
โI think so.โ
**17 weeks pregnant**
โCan you come to my office please?โ Aaron asked.
Naturally this caught the attention of the team. You could tell they were growing suspicious of you and Aaron. They used to make jokes about you guys dating all the time with how close you were, but now, taking time off together to go to doctorโs appointments and hushed conversations in his office. You were sure the team thought you two were together. And now, you guessed they werenโt exactly wrong.
โThey are totally dating.โ Emily insisted.
โNo doubt about it. Last week they left early together on Thursday. I guess Hotch called Rossi and told him they wouldnโt be back, and Rossi said he could hear them giggling. He used those exact words.โ Morgan explained.
โHotch, giggling? No way!โ JJ chimed in.
โWhen do you think theyโll finally come clean?โ Emily wondered.
โWhenever they are ready, and none of you are going to push the issue.โ Rossi declared.
The others grumbled in defeat as they returned to their tasks. Meanwhile, Aaron was informing you that Bradley had left him a voicemail, asking that the two of you return the call when you could.
โHey Aaron, thanks for getting back to me. Listen I have good news, your offer went through. You guys got the house! Iโll email over some paperwork, and we will talk next steps soon.โ Bradley rushed.
โThank you Bradley, we appreciate it.โ Aaron replied before hanging up the phone.
You shared a look before a cheerful squeal escaped your lips. You jumped into Aaronโs arms, hugging him tightly. He was quick to return it, rocking you back and forth gently.
โWe got the house! I canโt believe it!โ
โWe did sweetheart! Do you want to come for dinner tonight, we can talk to Jack?โ Aaron offered.
โThat sounds great.โ
You made your way back to your desk and caught the tail end of your teamโs conversation. They had clearly been speculating about the nature of your relationship with Aaron, and after that little display in his office, you couldnโt blame them. Youโd have to bring that up tonight, maybe it was time to come clean.
You were currently cooking dinner while Aaron helped Jack with his homework at the dining table. If this is the life you had to look forward to, youโd be a happy girl. You never felt more at home than when in the presence of the Hotchner boys. You finished up dinner and sent the boys to wash up while you set the table, they returned swiftly and the three of you began eating.
โJack, bud, we have something we want to talk to you about.โ Aaron began. โItโs pretty important and Iโd really like you to let me tell you everything before you respond okay?โ
โOkay.โ Jack nodded, mouth full.
โYou know how Iโm having a baby right?โ You gave him a moment to nod in reply.
โWell, that baby is going to be your little sister.โ Aaron explained. โWe are going to have this baby, and weโre all going to live together, in a new house. Youโll still go to the same school, but we will live in a house, all together instead of in the apartment.โ Aaron concluded.
Jackโs eyes grew wide at the mass of information heโd just received. He glanced from you to Aaron and back to you once more. His mouth fell open, and he took a deep breath before speaking.
โSo, does that mean youโre going to be my mom finally? Are you guys getting married? What does the house look like? Will I have to share a room with the baby? And where did the baby come from?โ Jack rattled off.
โOh, well sweetie this doesnโt necessarily meanโฆโ
โBud, go put your dish in the sink and change into your pjs. When you come back we will answer all of your questions.โ Aaron instructed.
Jack shrugged and went first to the kitchen, then shuffled down the hall to change. Aaron knew it would take him a little bit, and heโd likely get distracted before returning, which meant he could talk to you about the first two of Jackโs questions.
โSweetheart, if I am going to be the father of this baby, would you maybe consider being a mother to Jack? I know it is a lot, but with us living together and raising the baby together, it might make sense for me to formally adopt the baby and you to adopt Jack. That way we really could be a family. If anything happened to me, I would at least know that heโd have someone. He loves you so much and I love you, it just feels right, him wanting to call you mom.โ Aaron blurted.
โY โ you love me?โ You gasped.
Aaron blushed, having realized his slip up. โI do.โ
โI love you too Aaron. And I would love for Jack to consider me his mom, Iโd be lying if I said I hadnโt thought about us all being a real family like that. As for the adoption, that sounds perfect, Iโd have to call Jensen and judging how our first conversation went, it should be a non-issue.โ You noted.
โWe would just have to get the papers drawn up for you to adopt Jack, his mother signed away her rights when she left us.โ Aaron stated.
You looked at him with a saddened expression. The thought of leaving Aaron and Jack breaks your heart, you canโt imagine how she did it so effortlessly. Aaron could see the hurt behind your gaze, and he brought his hand up to caress your cheek, drawing a heat with it.
โCan we go back to a few minutes ago when we both said โI love youโ for the first timeโ Aaron chuckled.
You let out a giggle and nodded, leaning in to meet him halfway for a passionate kiss. The two of you have kissed before, but never like this. Kissing someone who you love and that loves you in return, well that is pure bliss.
โEww!โ Jack shrieks, covering his eyes.
The two of you share a laugh and pull away. Aaron begins clearing the table while you go to get Jack.
โEww? Eww? Come here buddy! Let me give you a big smooch!โ You laughed reaching for Jack.
His laughs rang through the apartment as you jokingly chased him around the living room. When you finally caught up to him, you wrapped your arms around him a pressed a dramatically loud kiss to his cheek. Jack feigned disgust and wiped his cheek off as Aaron entered the room, joining the two of you on the couch with a big smile on his face.
โAlright buddy, I want to answer some of your questions okay?โ
โOkay dad.โ
โSo, letโs start with the house, you are going to have your own room. The house is big with a yard that we can practice soccer in and a pool for us to swim! You will get to see the house soon; we are going to move in just a few weeks.โ Aaron explained.
โAs for me bud, if you want to call me mom you absolutely can. We arenโt getting married just yet, but we are a family sweetie.โ You gently ruffle his hair.
โOkay mom, but you didnโt answer my last question! Where do babies come from?โ
Your heart soared at the name, but both you and Aaron choked at his question.
โUh, we will talk about that when youโre a little older. Go get ready for bed.โ
**26 weeks pregnant**
You were nearing week 26 of your pregnancy and you knew, beyond a doubt, that the entire team knew you were pregnant, you hadnโt really been hiding it other than some loose-fitting tops. None of them said anything, but they were all doing everything in their power to make sure you were comfortable, safe, and feeling well in the office and even more so in the field.ย
On your last case, the whole team worked to keep you stuck in the local precinct as to avoid any potential harm. You knew they were just being protective, but your doctor said you were fine to continue field work for at least a few more weeks. You wanted to work while you still could, and you decided to talk to Aaron about finally coming clean to the team.
โHey, can I talk to you really quick?โ You asked, entering his office.
โAm I talking to you as your boss or as your significant other?โ He questions.
โBoth I guess? Aaron, I think we need to tell the team. They already know Iโm pregnant, that I am sure of. But they are acting like I am made of glass, and I would really like to keep working while I still can.โ You declared.
โSweetheart I canโt say I am particularly upset about everyone being extra cautious for you. I want you safe, and they do too. But if youโre ready to tell them, then letโs tell them.โ He admitted.
Aaron called the team to the round table so the two of you could come clean about everything. In the last 18 weeks, your lives had drastically changed for the better, and theyโd only continue to do so, so it was only right that you have your BAU family involved and around for the joy to come.
โI called you all in here because we have some news weโd like to share with you all.โ Aaron said, placing his hand on your shoulder.
You smiled up at him before continuing. โI am pregnant, as you all already seem to knowโฆbut thatโs not all.โ You and Aaron told the team about your relationship, the pregnancy and how it came to be, Aaron stepping in and being the father, the new house and how you moved in together, you told them everything.
The team met you with shocked expressions, before they bombarded you with congratulations, embraces, and some questions. They asked about Jack and his reaction, they asked about the babyโs biological father, and they asked if an engagement was coming soon.
You had explained that the adoption process had already begun for Aaron and the baby, that Jensen was more than willing to waive his parental rights. Youโd also told them how Jack started calling you mom and you were planning to ask him if you could adopt him officially in a few weeks and Aaron said an engagement would occur soon enough as long as youโd have him.
To close out your family meeting, youโd politely asked everyone to remember that you were pregnant, not incompetent, and you would appreciate it if they would let you work like normal (mostly) for the last few weeks youโd be able to. They agreed with some apprehension as long as youโd be careful and let the others lead.
**33 weeks pregnant**
The team had travelled to Colorado for a case, you knew that this would be one of the last times youโd get to travel with the team, so you were going to give this case your all.
For the last month, Aaron had definitely broken his promise and was keeping you on a tight leash. You knew he was only protecting you, but you wanted to do your job. You were damn good at it, and you werenโt going to let anyone tell you otherwise.
โAlright, you are going to stay here and work on the geographical profile with Reid, and I am, going to the latest crime scene with Morgan.โ Aaron stated.
โIโd like to go with Morgan actually. I think that my skills would be better suited that way.โ You disputed, sending a glare Aaronโs way.
โIโm not sure thatโs a good ideaโฆโ Aaron started.
โHotch. Let me do my job.โ
โOkay go. Be careful, please.โ Aaron pleaded.
Morgan drove you to the latest crime scene and you both looked around observing all of the evidence markers and trying to gather as much information as you could. The two of you were bouncing ideas off of one another when glass breaking sounded downstairs.
Morgan brought a finger to his lips signaling to be silent. You both raised your weapons and made your way to the landing. Morgan leaned around the corner to see if he could catch a glimpse of the intruder from the top of the stairs. When it came up empty, he motioned that he was going downstairs, silently telling you heโd let you know when it was safe to follow.
You didnโt move until Morgan signaled for you to do so. When he did, you carefully made your way downstairs. He went left and you went right, making your way through the first level of the home you noticed a broken lamp next to an open window in the living room. ย Before you had a chance to react, a man grabbed you from behind, his arm wrapping around your throat and his gun pressed to your temple.
โCall out to your partner.โ He hissed, pressing the gun further into your skin.
โMorgan, in the living room!โ You called.
โDid you find someth-โ Morgan trailed off, seeing the unsub holding you. โWoah, okay. We donโt want any trouble okay. You can let her go. We can get you whatever you want man.โ Morgan offered.
โDONโT TRY TO PLAY GAMES WITH ME!โ The unsub bellowed.
โWeโre not โ trying to play games with you. We just want everyone to leave here unharmed.โ You tried to console the unsub.
โNO! LOOK AT HIM! HEโS GONNA TRY AND SHOOT ME THE SECOND I LET YOU GO! IโM NOT FUCKING STUPID!โ The unsub cried.
You could tell he was devolving; he was young, intimidated and sick of being pushed around by men in positions of power. Most notably, his father.
โYouโre right. He probably will try and shoot. Heโs cocky like that. Always walking around like heโs a gift from God himself. Barking orders at his subordinates and making passes at any female employee. It makes me sick.โ You played into his delusions.
โHe treats you like that?โ The unsub wavered.
โHe does. And I canโt stand it! I am sick of being treated like Iโm less than. Like Iโm not good enough to be here! I deserve more, you deserve more. We are strong and capable, and we should be treated as such.โ You continued to work this unsub while Morgan slowly moved into position.
โYouโre right! If you can see that, why couldnโt he? Why couldnโt he see that I am enough!โ The unsub sobbed, his hands dropping to his sides.
Morgan swooped in and handcuffed him after gently grabbing his gun from his hand. The unsub sobbed quietly, realizing the error of his ways. You moved to sit in a nearby chair and Morgan pulled out his phone to call for backup.
โAre you okay?โ Aaron asked, rushing to your side. โThis is exactly why I didnโt want you coming with Morgan.โ
โAaron, honey, Iโm okay!โ You reassured him.
โHotch, your girl single handedly talked the guy off the ledge. Sheโs the reason weโre all safe.โ Morgan explained.
Aaron looked at you once again. Taking in every part of your body to ensure you had no injuries. He gently takes your chin between his index finger and thumb to glance at your right temple, making a note of the slight bruise thatโs developing there.
โI want you to get checked out before we go home.โ Aaron informed.
โOkay.โ You said, knowing arguing wouldnโt get you anywhere.
After spending far too long at the hospital, you were headed back to the hotel with a clean bill of health for both you and your baby girl. Aaronโs hands hadnโt left you since heโd rushed to your side at the crime scene. They were either holding your own, pressed to the small of your back, or resting on your leg. You knew he was just trying to ground himself in the fact that you were safe.
That night you and Aaron shared a conversation about you going on desk duty for the next few weeks, before your maternity leave started. He was a bit shocked that you didnโt fight him on itโฆnot even a little bit.
**39 weeks pregnant**
You had been on maternity leave for all of five days and you were already out of your mind. The only thing you were grateful for was the fact that you got to spend so much time with Jack.
Your adoption of him had been finalized two weeks ago and everything was done regarding Aaron adopting the baby. Now, you were just awaiting the arrival of your daughter. You were more than ready for her to be here and out of your body, and while the pregnancy hadnโt been particularly difficult, you were exhausted and bloated and just ready to be done.
You were in the kitchen making lunch for Jack and you while he played in the living room. Heโd requested a grilled cheese sandwich with some tomato soup. You had just flipped the sandwich when a contraction hit. The pain washed over you, radiating down your spine and through your pelvis. You took a deep breath and check the time, they were about fifteen minutes apart right now, the contractions kept you up all night and had been consistent all day.
โOkay bud, lunch is served!โ You set his food down in front of him on the coffee table.
โThanks mom!โ He smiled, taking a big bite of grilled cheese.
โYouโre welco-โ a sharp hiss escaped your mouth.
Checking the clock again you realize itโs only been about five minutes since the last one. You take a few deep breaths and look around for your phone, it might be time to text Aaron.
โMom, are you okay?โ Jack asked.
โYeah bub Iโm okay. I think your sister is getting ready to come.โ You explained.
โReally? I canโt wait to meet her!โ Jack cheered, resting one of his hands on your swollen belly.
โI canโt wait either. Jack, could you uh โ could you go grab my phone hon?โ You requested.
โOkay!โ He wandered over to the kitchen to grab your phone.
You felt another contraction coming on and realized that they were coming one after another in shorter bursts of times. You needed to get to the hospital.
Jack returned from the kitchen with your phone and handed it to you. You were quick to dial Aaronโs number. ย It rang three times before he picked up.
โHey sweetheart. Is everything okay?โ He questioned.
โYeah honey, it โ itโs time. Sheโs coming.โ
โNow? How far apart are your contractions? Did your water break? Are you in pain? Should I call an ambulance to come and take you to the hospital?โ Aaron rattled off question after question.
โAaron, baby, contractions are three minutes apart now, my water hasnโt broken, Iโm not in too much pain, and please donโt call an ambulance. I will drive myself and Jack to the hospital. Meet us there.โ
โI will sweetheart. The go bag is on the floor of the closet, on the right side. And the car seat has already been installed. I am leaving right now.โ Aaron promised.
โOkay! See you soon.โ
**36 weeks pregnant**
โMrs. Hotchner, can we go swimming?โ Henry asked.
โOf course, bud, you boys go get your swim trunks on and I will get Nora changed. Okay?โ You looked at the three boys for confirmation.
After they all shouted okay, they ran to Jackโs room and the bathroom to change, you walked with Nora upstairs to help her change into her swimsuit.
โAlright bug, pink or green?โ You asked her.
โNo. Blue momma, blue!โ Nora demanded.
โOkay bug, blue suit.โ You agreed.
You got Nora changed and brought her into your room, before you changed into your own bathing suit in the on-suite bathroom. When you exited, you grabbed Nora and then made sure the boys were all ready and that they had put on sunscreen. The five of you made your way outside, the boys were quick to jump straight into the pool, and you made sure to put on Noraโs swimming vest.
Aaron stepped away from the grill and wrapped his arms around your waist. He placed a sweet kiss on your shoulder before leaning down and kissing Noraโs head. He went back to the grill and got it cleaned and ready for the burgers you were making tonight.
โJJ texted and said her and Will were on their way. She said to thank you again for picking the boys up from school.โ Aaron let you know.
โShe doesnโt need to thank me.โ You scoffed. โThe boys all go to the same school and with me on maternity leave, I have nothing better to do.โ You laughed.
โIโm excited to see the team, itโs been so long since weโve all been together.โ Aaron sighed, slipping into the pool with you.
โI know honey. Weโve all just been so busyโฆthatโs why itโs taken this long for us to do this revealโ You hugged him. โDo you regret taking the promotion?โ
โNot for even a second. It has allowed me more time with you and the kids. I got to see almost all of Noraโs milestones, and I am so excited for this little one to join us here soon.โ Aaron said caressing your belly once more.
โI canโt wait either.โ You smiled.
One by one the team began filing in through the back gate. Derek and Savanah had come in with Hank. JJ and Will had come in and were quick to greet their sons. Emily, Spencer and Penelope arrived all at once saying their hellos and quickly getting into the pool. And Rossi arrived last, he set the cake and wine in the kitchen and made himself comfortable in the lounge chairs on the deck.
Time passed in slow motion, you made conversation with those around you and ate dinner (Aaron and Derek standing over the grill drinking beerโฆthey were arguing over how long to cook the burgers). Everyone got out of the pool and as the adults sat on the lounge chairs, the kids ran around in the yard, playing soccer.
โAre you guys ready?โ Dave asked
After you and Aaron nodded, Dave went to grab the cake. You called everyone over to the table and let them know that you chose to reveal the gender this way because you didnโt want some big flashy party, but rather to be surrounded by loved ones.
โSo, thereโs one other announcement Iโd like to make before we do the gender reveal.โ You began. โI will not be returning to the BAU after the birth.โ
A chorus of โwhat do you meanโ and โwhyโ and โthatโs not funnyโ rang out around you. This was something that youโd been at war with yourself over for the entirety of this pregnancy. Aaron taking the promotion to a director position, it had shockingly allowed him more time with your family, and it provided a safety that his previous position had hindered. It was a culmination of those facts that led you to your decision.
โWhat does this mean though? What are you going to do?โ Spencer was the one to ask.
โIโm going to teach.โ You smiled. โI was offered a position, within the FBI, to teach. You guys will still get to see me, and we will still host everyone, but the hours are better, and theyโll allow me more time at home.โ
The team exchanged solemn expressions, but ultimately wished you well. They let you know that theyโd miss you and the team wouldnโt be the same without you, but they understood.
โOkay! Sorry. Onto a much happier topic โ the gender reveal of our baby!โ You exclaimed.
Aaron and you each took a wine glass and held them upside down over opposite edges of the cake. The team counted down 3โฆ2โฆ1โฆand you and Aaron plunged the glasses into the cake. You each brought the glasses up and held them out in front of you, confusion etched on the faces of those standing before you.
โOH MY GOD! Itโs twins! Itโs twins isnโt it!โ Penelope shouted with glee.
In front of you, enclosed in the wine glass were layers of chocolate cake intermixed with blue frosting. And in front of Aaron was a glass housing chocolate cake with pink frosting. The two of you shared a look, one that held nothing but love and adoration for one another and the beautiful life youโve built with one another. You loved each other more than anything and your growing family was proof of that, Jack and Nora had been thrilled that theyโd be getting both a little brother and sister, and in just a few short weeks, theyโd make their debut.

Drive Me Home (2/2)
Part 1 Content Warnings: Creep at the Barโข, Soft Hotch WC: 2.5K
ใใ+ใใใใ+ใใใใ+ใใใใ โCome on. Just one more!โ Emily begs you, her voice loud over the constant chatter. She reaches over the unsettlingly sticky tabletop to grab your forearm, then, sensing your vacancy, searches for another target. โGarcia? JJ?โ
Two margaritas and four vodka shots is all it takes to unravel whatever illusion of dignity youโve managed to scrounge together since joining the BAU. Two margaritas and four shots has you giggling at anything said, funny or not, and struggling to keep your eyes open. Now, if Emily has her way โ and youโve come to learn that she often does when the team unwinds at the bar โ a tequila shot is in the cards for you too.
โIโm out.โ JJ says with a shake of her head, โAny more and I wonโt be alive to see tomorrow morning, let alone Monday.โย
โThatโs the whole point,โ says a now-pouting Emily as she spins in her seat to hound Garcia into agreeing to another round. The first to Morganโs at the bar making friends, as he puts it. Watching him with a smile pulling at his lips is Reid, who nurses a soda and regales the rest of you every so often with numerical predictions of his chances for success.
Your head is spinning, and itโs got everything to do with the alcohol flooding your veins, not the unfortunate reality of your boss sitting at the head of the table, with those two top buttons open, exposing just a glimpse of his throat. Heโs been checking his watch as often as is socially acceptable. Somewhere deep in the haze of your mind, you suspect Rossi, who's long gone, bullied him into coming. Now he nods along with Reidโs tangents, inserts a comment or two whenever the younger profiler takes a breath.
Emily calls your name once more, pinning her hopes onto you. Itโs a rookie mistake you make when you nod, having not processed her question properly. By the time you realize what youโve agreed to, itโs too late to back out. Suppressing a groan, you grab your card and slide out of the booth. You try not to think about squeezing past Hotch as you do it, try ignoring the warmth that spreads into you when your forearm brushes his shoulder.ย
You fail. Sweet as ever, Garcia offers to join you, but you shake her offer off with a smile, standing on only-slightly-unsteady legs and making the short walk to the bar.ย ย
As you slot yourself into the crowd waiting for their drinks, you debate whether Emily will notice you taking a water shot instead of the tequila youโll buy for her and Garcia. Youโre about to take the risk and order one when an unfamiliar hand settles itself on your lower back. Brow furrowing, you whirl around, hoping to see Prentiss or Morgan behind you.ย
Those hopes are dashed pretty quickly. A stranger presses in close to your side. His fingers curl around your waist in a manner so confident itโd make you laugh, were you sober enough to react with more certainty. Instead, you shiver. And of course he takes that to be a sign, his grin cheshire-cat-wide.ย
โIโm sorry. Do I know you?โ you take a moment to respond as you cover his hand with your own, moving it away from you.ย
Heโs tall, blonde, what many people would deem attractive. But his smile is too quick to appear and just lopsided enough to look practiced. โNot yet,โ he says. โWhat are you drinking?โ
โNothing more now. Just water.โ
Your tone is clipped, impersonal, and you hope he gets the message.ย
If he does, he chooses to ignore it and steps even closer, reaching the same hand across your body and resting it against the bar, boxing you in against it. The proximity has your stomach sinking.ย
Stephen โ really, youโve no idea what his name is, but he looks like a Stephen, and the type to spell it with a โphโ over a โvโ, just for the status of the extra letter โ raises an eyebrow at you. โJust water? Come on, honey. What do you want? Itโs on me.โ
The pet name sounds wrong on his lips. Youโre an FBI agent. Youโve dealt with the sickest people humanity has to offer, seen more in your short time with the team than most people see in their lives. Youโre an excellent shot, giving even Morgan a run for his money. You should be more than capable of dealing with a freak who gets a little too close at the bar, for fuckโs sake.ย
But youโre tired and a little dizzy, and the scent of his cologne makes your head spin in the wrong kind of way. Emily wouldnโt hesitate to shove him hard, and JJ wouldnโt get herself into this situation in the first place. Youโre not Emily or JJ though. Youโre just you.ย
โThank you, but Iโm really notโโย
The bartender cuts you off to ask for your order, and you try to forget Stephenโs eyes on you as you rattle it off, opting for an extra glass of water just to spite him.ย
He isnโt pleased, though his face says otherwise. โYou donโt really want that. No strings, I promise. Just let me buy you a drink. Just one.โ
Youโve had enough. โIโm not interested.โย
Now the smile drops from his face, leaving it a blank mockery of neutrality that makes you sure โno stringsโ is an empty promise. He leans in even closer, and you suppress a wince at the sensation of his breath against your skin. โYou know, you donโt have to play hard to get.โ Stephenโs tone is rougher now, all of its artificial sweetness abandoned. He looks you up and down, eyes the neckline of your shirt with a frown. โItโs obvious what youโre looking for.โ
Your throat constricts. The air is hot. Too hot. Itโs all you can do to keep your hand steady as you pay for your drinks. โI told you, Iโm not looking for anything. Or anyone.โ
When the bartender slides your drinks across the bar, you rush to grab them, nearly spilling them in your haste to leave. Youโre not that lucky. Stephenโs arm is still in your way. You donโt like how your breathing speeds up, chest heaving just a little despite your attempts to remain unfazed, but itโs all too much.ย
Stephen opens his mouth to retort again.ย
He doesnโt get far.ย
โMove.โ
ย A new hand settles itself on your back, and its fingers curve ever so slightly around your hip. If you wanted to back away, thereโd be more than enough room. But you donโt.ย
Turning slightly in Hotchโs hold, youโre not surprised to see him issuing Stephen with the full force of his glare. The creepโs hand retreats, though he stays put otherwise.
โHere, sweetheart,โ Hotch takes the tray from you, not even bothering to look at your โadmirerโ again. His focus is on you, now, and his eyes are soft, one corner of his mouth curving up. โThought you could use a hand. I think Prentiss might kill you if you drop another of her drinks.โ
You manage to pull yourself together enough to roll your eyes. Of course he picks now to bring that up. โThat was one time, Aaron. I donโt think she even remembers it.โ
Now Stephen turns and walks to the other end of the bar, and you feel your shoulders loosen at the distance.ย
Hotch notices, because of course he does. Instead of walking you back to your booth, he stays put and searches your face. โYou okay?โ
You nod. โFine. I donโt know why I didnโtโฆโ
Trailing off, you scan the bar. Garcia is laughing at something Prentiss says (some kind of story, based on the gestures sheโs making). Reid watches them with fondness in his features, Morgan back and sitting by his side.
โYou shouldnโt have had to do anything,โ Hotch says quietly. His arm rests by his side now. โI think Iโm going to head back. You want to go home?โ
โYeah. Iโm gonna call a cab.โ
He tilts his head, echoing your words from months ago with just a hint of a smirk playing at his lips. โEveryone and their mother is calling a cab. Iโm driving you.โ
โHotchโฆโ you sigh. You canโt trust yourself, now, not to say the wrong thing, not to comment on the something thatโs changed between the two of you since you gave him a ride home, not to wonder if heโs noticed it too.ย
โLet me do this for you. Please.โ
His insistence is too gentle to argue with.ย
โOkay.โ
Hotch takes the tray of drinks, leading you back towards the rest of the team.ย
โYouโre an angel, honey,โ Garcia tells you. She squeezes your hand in thanks as Hotch sets down the shots and hands you your water. If anyone noticed anything wrong, they donโt mention it, and youโre grateful for that small mercy.
โI think weโre going to head out now,โ says Hotch. His hand hovers just above your back, almost touching you, as he goes on to explain that you arenโt feeling well and shouldnโt chance a cab.
Youโre not too drunk to miss the communal grin passing through the group like the flu, so you file it away for later and hug the rest of the team one by one, giving Reid a tired smile and a wave goodbye.ย
Hotch leads you out of the bar and out into the cold in search of his car. You feel yourself take a real breath for the first time in a while.ย
โAre you alright?โ
โFine. Thank you,โ you say, and mean it. The chill in the air helps to clear your head some. At the very least, you donโt feel nearly as drunk as you did inside.ย
Hotch hums, unlocking the car. Climbing into the passenger seat, you canโt help but laugh.
โWhat?โ
You look over at him, groan quietly. โYouโre a liar, Aaron Hotchner. Your car is so much cleaner than mine.โ
It really is. You glance over the interior in search of a coffee stain or a loose wrapper, but come up empty handed.ย
โGuilty,โ he shrugs. โAnd itโll stay that way, if you behave.โ
Youโre pretty sure your brain short circuits when he puts his hand on the back of your headrest to reverse out of the parking spot. It takes you longer to respond than usual to his gentle taunting. When you do, itโs a little half-hearted. Maybe you arenโt as sober as you thought.ย
โPlease, Hotch. Iโm not about to throw up in your car. Iโm not that far gone.โย
โNo. Youโre not,โ he pauses, opening the window anyway. โWeโre back to โHotchโ, now? What happened to Aaron?โ
You give him the most innocent look you can manage and plug your address into his satnav. โYouโre right there.โ
Youโre pretty sure the look he gives you now is reserved for murderers. And clearly, on some occasions, you.ย
Eventually, he relents. โYou called me โAaronโ, earlier.โ
โYou called me โsweetheartโ,โ you blurt out before you can stop yourself. Resting your chin on your hand, you turn your head to look out of the window. You donโt want to see the smug expression youโve come to recognise over the past few weeks, reserved almost exclusively for you. You know he wears it now.ย
โDid I?โ
You donโt answer. Your fingers move to cover your lips, as if thatโll stop you from making more of an idiot of yourself than you already have.ย
Somewhere in the back of your mind, you register his sigh. โLook in the side pocket,โ he says, his voice quiet.
โWhat?โ
โIn the compartment in the door. Take a look.โย
You follow his instructions, finding a few CDs tucked away there. Youโre about to tease Hotch for his taste in kidsโ audiobooks when you spot it, and feel your breath hitch.ย
โHotchโฆโ You say, turning over the copy of Carole Kingโs Tapestry in your hands. Itโs still wrapped in plastic, still new. Taking the disc out of its case, you look to him for permission before sliding it into the player. โWhen did youโฆ?โ
โIndiana. I saw it a few weeks ago, and it made me think.๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
You press play, and I Feel The Earth Move floods the car. โYou really didnโt have toโโ
โโI wanted to,โ he frowns as he says it, determination etched into his face. โI donโt have much of a collection, but itโll get there.โ
A comfortable layer of quiet settles between you as you watch the world move outside, late-night stragglers heading from offices with briefcases in hand, or stumbling out of nearby bars, arm-in-arm and laughing. Itโs been a long while since you took that first journey alone with Hotch, since your determination not to think about him in any non-professional way wavered and cracked. Now, weeks later, you take turns to bring each other coffee in the morning. You ask him about Jack and revel in how content he is to talk about his son. You look at him and wonder if this slow, tentative thing youโve built, this easy friendship, is all youโll ever share.
If it is, you canโt bring yourself to be upset. But you glance at him now, his hair falling over his forehead, and think to yourself that it might not be.
Three songs or so later, Hotch turns into your street. You point out your apartment and wait for him to turn the engine off, but he doesnโt.
โThank you for tonight,โ you say, simply to have something to say that isnโt an admittal of something you really shouldnโt be confessing to.ย
He hesitates. The car stays running. โYouโve got nothing to thank me for.โ
You nod towards the CD player, pressing pause. Silence. โThank you for this, then.โ
โIt was your idea,โ Hotch says, โYouโre a lot more thoughtful than you give yourself credit for.โ
Itโs sweet. Too sweet.ย
You laugh at him. โGod, you sound like a fortune cookie.โ
โIโd make an excellent fortune teller.โย
Thereโs that tone again. Itโs flat, but with something exasperated lingering beneath it, something fond.
โGo on, then. Whatโs in my future?โ
He sighs. โA nasty hangover. And a text or two hundred from Garcia, complaining about hers.โ
You snort in acknowledgement. โAnd what do you see in yours?โ
Now he turns the engine off, leaning back against the headrest and turns to study you. His eyes trace from yours down to the curve of your lips, and to where your hands lay intertwined in your lap. For a long moment, he says nothing. Your breath is starting to turn the windscreen foggy. Then, with a gentle grip, he takes your hand and brings it to his lips, kisses the tender skin on the inside of your wrist.ย
โIf youโll have me? Another very uncomfortable conversation with Strauss.โ
Your soft, tired smile is answer enough. He leads you to your front door, kisses your forehead, and sees you inside. When that conversation is over, he promises, heโll be driving you home much more often.ย
It isnโt very long before he makes good on it, and Reid is a little richer.

The Set Up.
Sneak peek: based on the following request: Aaron and the reader are secretly married, and the team try to set them up together (obviously not knowing they are married) and they go on their date that the team set up and they enjoy it and the next day they tell the team that they are married. - I changed it a little bit but I hope you like it!
Aaron Hotchner x (Fem) Reader
Fluff
Word count: 1878
REQUESTS ARE OPEN - not edited - please be kind. Requests are open and feedback is welcome if it's constructive!
Warnings: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! My blog is 18+, minors DNI, implied age gap (kinda?), secret relationship, mentions of canon typical violence, some language, team members meddling. I think thatโs all, let me know if I missed any!
I do not consent to having my work translated or reposted to any other site. That being said I do not own the characters portrayed in this story.
The team had been immediately aware of the difference in Hotchโs demeanor when you joined the BAU. You had been bright and shiny, straight out of the FBI academy and youโd had an impressive resume. In all seriousness, Hotch had chosen you to join the team prior to reading your name or date of birth. So, when you arrived with that twinkle in your eye and a hunger to make the world a better place, he knew he needed to protect you that for as long as he could.
Dave was the first one to mention the elephant in the room to Hotch. It had been about six months since you had joined the team. He had cornered Hotch at the coffee maker and outright asked him.
โDo you have feelings for her?โ
โDave that is not an appropriate question and this is certainly not the place for it.โ Hotch shook his head, walking away.
Of course he had feelings for you, how could he not? You had been sweet and gentle, and you hadnโt let the horrors of the job harden you. Which is exactly why Hotch had asked you on a date two weeks prior, you had been out a few times since then, but Hotch couldnโt let Dave know. What if it didnโt work out? What if it got out and the bureau reprimand you both? What if it got out and you were targeted because of him?
Those are all the reasons he continued to use as an excuse for keeping your relationship under wraps. Itโs been two years, and since then the two of you had become serious, moved in, got married, and were now talking about expanding your familyโฆwhich of course led to a more intensive conversation of telling the bureau and more importantly the team of your relationship.
On the other hand, Penelope had been working endlessly to set you up with an eligible bachelor she knew, and after many failed attempts and a drunken night out with the girls, Emily had outed the crush you had on Hotch. If only they knew. That was the beginning of the schemes โ the team was doing everything in their power to set the two of you up.
They had sent you undercover as a couple more than once, constantly partnered the two of you up on cases, made sure to take all the seats on the plane so youโd be forced to sit next to one another, and left you two to share rooms when it was needed on cases. The two of you found it humorous given that youโd already been doing all those things in secrecy.
It had been a pretty quiet day, you all had been catching up on paperwork, when the girls approached you and unbeknownst to you, the guys approached Aaron. That evening while cooking dinner you and Aaron would share nearly identical stories.
They approached me about a blind date. They said that it was scheduled for Friday at 7pm at Fredrichโs. To look for the
Woman in red and that I should wear gray.
Man in gray and that I should wear red.
At that point the two of you looked at one another and laughed. The team had set you up on a blind date with one another. You both agreed to play into the teamโs plan and go on the โblindโ dates they were setting you up on.
The rest of week went on slowly, but once Friday came around, the girls couldnโt contain their excitement for you. Emily had reassured you that the guy she set you up with was nothing if not a gentleman.
Morgan had made sure to stop by Hotchโs office and remind him of his date.
โDonโt leave this girl hanging man. Sheโs a great girl.โ Morgan scolded.
โI will be there; you have nothing to worry about.โ Aaron couldnโt help but smile as he thought of you.
Youโd left work at 5:00 on the dot and went straight home to get ready. Aaron left at 6:15 and adjusted his attire, he removed his jacket and tie, unbuttoning the top two buttons on his shirt.
โHey sweetheartโ his hands made their way around your waist โyou look incredible.โ Aaron placed a desperate kiss on your neck.
โAaron, we should really be going!โ You couldnโt help the giggle that escaped you.
You headed to the restaurant, excited to be out on a date, it had been a while since you had been out for dinner together, with work being so busy. When you arrived at Fredrichโs, Aaron pulled up out front and made his way around to your door. After assisting you out of the car, he handed his keys to the valet and led you inside.
As you made your way inside to the hostess stand you looked around the restaurant. Taking in your surroundings you were quick to notice a gentleman sitting alone at a table for two wearing none other than, a gray suit.ย As you were waiting for the hostess to seat you, a woman entered the restaurant accidentally bumping your arm.ย At the disruption Aaron glanced in your direction and took note of the color of the woman's dressโฆit was red.
ย Aaron and you shared a look, one that was filled with acknowledgment and laced with a little bit of humor.ย When the hostess looked up at you, Aaron gestured for the woman to go first she mentioned to the hostess that she was meeting someone, and he was meant to be wearing gray. The hostess nodded and said he got there just a few moments ago and directed the woman to the table with the man in gray, sitting alone.
When she returned you asked for a table for two and were directed to a small booth in the back corner. You couldn't help the scoff that escaped you looking over to Aaron in utter disbelief.
โI can't believe thisโฆโย you shook your head โthey have been trying to get us together for months and they set us up on these blind dates, with random people at the same place this doesn't make any sense.โ You finished.
โDo you think maybe they thought that if we saw each other out with other people that we'd come to our senses and ask one another out?โ Aaron inquired.
โI mean maybe, I guess they thought that we'd either end up with one another because we couldn't stand the thought of each other with someone else or they thought that we'd end up matching well with the people they set us up with. Either way I think it might be time to let them in on our little secret.โ You suggested.
โYeah, I think perhaps you're right.โ Aaron agreed.
Throughout the rest of the evening, you and Aaron shared a wonderful dinner and couldn't help but peek over at the couple that was set up by pure accident.ย It made you smile at how well they appeared to be hitting it off and if anything could come of this night you were glad it could be new love for two people deserving of it.
When you and Aaron arrived home that evening you decided to discuss how you would break the news to the team that you'd actually been together, married in fact. You knew it would be hard especially with how close you were with them, Penelope would for sure be the most upset, given that you'd have had a wedding that she wasn't invited to.
Monday morning Aaron and you woke up, got dressed (unintentionally coordinating I might add) and for the first time, drove to work together. You walked in the building together hand in hand, with the hope that your team would be accepting.ย Unsurprisingly the first person to notice was Morgan, he had been sitting on Emily's desk and looked over as soon as you two entered the room.
You couldn't tell what they were more shocked about as eyes made their way to you. Was it the fact that this is the latest Aaron had arrived to work since he started at the BAU or was it the fact that you were so openly partaking in PDA. Naturally you were bombarded with questions like; how long you have been together, when you got together, what the relationship status was, if Dave has secretly known the whole time, they all were tossed at you with ferocity. But in the middle of all those questions Emily posed a rather important one,ย
โIf you two are together, what happened on your dates last night and why did you even agree to go on them?โ
โWell, we've been together for quite a while and when we went home the other night, we had shared the information of the blind dates you guys were setting us up on and when we both had the story of me wearing red and him wearing Gray we sort of thought you guys were trying to set us up together.โ You explained, โSo color us surprised when we got to the restaurant at the same time as a woman in red who was looking for a man in gray.โ
โWait, but what about Mary? Hotch I told you not to leave her hanging, she's a good girl and I've known her a long time.โ Morgan warned.
โAnd what about Ethan, he texted me this weekend saying how great the date went?โ Emily questioned.
โWell, we let the hostess escort the girl in the red dress to the guy in the gray suit. So, Ethan and Mary went on a date together. While we enjoyed a much-needed date night.โ Aaron clarified.
There was chatter amongst the team trying to break down the information they had just received from the two of you. You could tell they were still confused on some of the details, especially that of yours and Aaron's relationship. You looked at Aaron with pleading eyes, which he returned with a curt nod. The two of you thought it best to explain the situation to everyone.
โI guess we should probably explain ourselves. We have been married for about eight months. We have been together for nearly two years. I know that that probably comes as a shock but given everything we've gone through working here we do hope that you'll understand. our secrecy wasn't because we don't trust you, it was simply to keep one another safe as well as avoid any sort of reprimand from the director.โ You informed.
You could tell the team was a combination of many emotions seeing them all flash across their faces, emotions like hurt, understanding, shock, but the most surprising was the love and care that ended on all of the faces in front of you. You couldn't be more appreciative of the people standing before you.
The blind date story was one that the team would go on to tell in many ways; to your future children of how they found out their parents were together, in Dave's best man speech at your vow renewal, and in simple jokes in passing. At the end of the day the team couldn't be happier that the two of you got your happy ending. Together.
