okay now that i've recovered enough to summarize: this is Silentspot, the cleric and main executioner of AbandonedClan. (longass summary below the cut)

his troubles started as soon as he was born. his mother Blizzardnettle had him and his sister at the worst possible time: just after she became a warrior, right when her mother Hailthroat (the cleric) started to go senile, and directly before she was appointed deputy. she wasn't exactly the best parent. on top of that, AbandonedClan was slowly dying out, with only two families remaining on the old territory. Lowstar and Blizzardnettle were both incredibly young and inexperienced, and no cat could reach their starry ancestors. Silentpaw was pushed into the medicine den after having visions of a dead cat... but after a fall that should have been fatal, he found out the hard way that he wasn't from StarClan.

it's now occurring to me that he's basically bootleg Shadowsight but it's fine it's whatever lol

anyway Lowstar finds him, and Silentpaw's great-grandfather Thistlestone makes a deal with them. since the cats of StarClan have turned their backs on the living, he'll take pity on them and make a deal. AbandonedClan will live on as long as Lowstar and Silentpaw sacrifice half the Clan to him every year. starting right now. taking the deal is the world's worst idea, but Lowstar and Silentpaw are two panicking, starving teenagers who don't know what Thistlestone will do if they refuse. that night, they channel Thistlestone's spirit and kill five randomly-chosen cats, including Hailstone, Blizzardnettle and Lowstar's beloved father Liondew.

nobody comes out of this okay. Lowstar does his best to distance himself from other cats, knowing what he'll have to do to them, while the newly-named Silentspot becomes extra protective of his sister Pigeonghost, the only family he has left. Pigeonghost has three daughters, and he becomes just as protective of them. and then he has to kill all of them, save for one of the daughters. Lowstar (who's had to kill a LOT of his own family members at this point) helps to bring him out of his trauma, and the two realize that they're all each other have. they become mates. aaaaaand Lowstar dies.

Lowstar's uncle Honeyears becomes the new leader, appointing Silentspot's sole surviving niece as his deputy. Lowstar loved his uncle more than anything, and Silentstorm realizes that he can't let Honeystar be corrupted by Thistlestone. on the night of the yearly sacrifice, Silentstorm kills Honeystar. Thistlestone accepts his nine lives as separate sacrifices, and Tremblemask (who's already been corrupted by the Dark Forest) becomes leader. Tremblestar absolutely sucks at her job. she and a kittypet have two kits, neither of whom live to become warriors and both of whom are taken by Thistlestone-- it seems that any cat who doesn't die by sacrifice is doomed to roam the Dark Forest forever. Silentspots finds another mate, another cleric named Gullrise who happens to be Lowstar's ex, but since she makes Silentspot happy you can guess she doesn't last long (she dies to yellowcough, and therefore goes to the Dark Forest).

many years and many sacrifices pass, and eventually Tremblestar's foolishness leads to the Clan being left without prey for moons on end. Thistlestone is desperate to keep Silentspot, the only cat who can channel him, alive, and sacrifices half the Clan early so Silentspot won't starve. Silentspot is left alone in a Clan full of kittens, and though he does his best, most of them die before earning their warrior names. he realizes how badly he was played by Thistlestone, and accepts that he'll rot in the Dark Forest for his actions. but he wants to save someone...

he brings home two kits just before the ninth sacrifice, born from a fling with a former Clancat who died giving birth. he convinces his great-grandfather that his daughter Comfreykit can channel Dark Forest cats, and offers himself up as the final sacrifice. with his death, he and Thistlestone are trapped in the Dark Forest forever. Rainbowstar, the last leader AbandonedClan, raises Comfreykit and her brother Beechkit. Their life from there on out isn't perfect, but at least they won't have to live through the same horrors as Silentspot.
