some of my kin liken humans to beasts to illustrate their ruthless ambition.

i do not.

the wolf hungers, and hunts to sate that hunger.

the bear must rest, and hunts to sleep once winter comes.

the human does not merely 'hunt'.

they torch forests and poison rivers. they build giant constructions which spew gas as black as night into the very air we breathe. they hunt and hunt and hunt until nothing is left.

describing them as anything other than 'human', is to undersell the reality of their callous disregard for any semblence of mercy.

on a rare day where he’s not out and managing the dungeon, you drag him outside of his room to spend it with you in the garden.

you show him your new flowers and plants, the tricks you’ve taught the rabbits, and make flower crowns with him.

he has a monotone line on his face but whenever you touch or grab his hand gently will never fail to catch him off guard.

thistle almost scolds you when he yelps as your hands pull at his head. it meets with the soft plush of your thighs and he looks up at you.

“what do you think you’re doing?” he murmurs, making you smile down at him, gently caressing his forehead.

“just rest. take it slow for today.” he narrows his eyes up at you before begrudgingly making himself more comfortable.

with your hands running through his short bangs, he finds himself at peace listening to your humming and the soft rustling of the grass and leaves.

he falls asleep in your lap as you smile, happy that you got him to take a nap that he so needed while you sneakingly decorate his head with small flowers.
