The aftermath of broadwaycon was fiery, raging, passionate, and a lot of fun. Internet fame, presence, “trending”-it’s fun. But its also very overwhelming, and it’s taught me a lot about reputation. You never know what impression you’re going to have on someone—online or in person. Make good impressions on people in power and it pays off. Don’t spend all your days chasing fame—it’s fruitless and scary. When you’re called a hero, an icon, watch yourself. Consider your steps. Don’t say things that could get in the wrong hands—and everything can. My bout of trend and fame and presence have been fun and amazing, but I only wish they came without the aggression—even in defense. I regret it deeply. You never know when you’ll end up trending—trend positively, because broadwaycon—and life—is a fun, fulfilling, positive experience, and we want nothing but the best for theatre nerds everywhere. Then I fulfilled my goal of performing on Broadway with the Tony-nominated play “Golden Child” by David Henry Hwang. And now, @thetonyawards website announces me as one of their presenters for 2018. 'Harry Potter' Director Leads Tonys In Singing 'Happy Birthday' To His Boyfriend

Theater director John Tiffany set a new standard for boyfriends everywhere when he led Tony Award winners, nominees and attendees Sunday in wishing his beau a happy birthday. 

Tiffany, who hails from the United Kingdom, picked up an award for Best Direction of a Play for Broadway’s “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two.” 

Upon accepting the award, Tiffany announced that it was his boyfriend David Knock’s birthday and encouraged the crowd at New York’s Radio City Music Hall to sing “Happy Birthday.” 

As is to be expected in a room filled with multitalented actors, singers and other artists, the crowd obliged. (Watch video of the big moment above.) 

A smiling Knock appeared to be a bit bewildered by Tiffany’s gesture, while many people on social media beamed.

Best director winner John Tiffany just got back to his seat and appeared to be playfully scolded by his husband (to whom everybody sang ‘Happy Birthday’) before getting a kiss.

Tiffany had a lot to celebrate Sunday.

By the end of the night, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two” picked up six Tonys, including Best Play, Best Scenic Design of a Play and Best Lighting Design of a Play.

It was Tiffany’s second Tony for directing. In 2012, he won Best Direction of a Musical for “Once.”
