Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: An Opinion

So. This anime. Lots of opinions on it. From those that know it exists at least. I have my own that I'd like to share.

I don't remember how I found it. Feel like maybe my brother told me about it but I'm not certain. All I know is how it made me feel. And it was AMAZING.

Now normally I don't like zombie things. I get grossed out easily and scared easily and zombies tend to be too much for me. This was the first time I found zombies palatable and honestly actually kinda cool. It shocked me, but more than anything I found the world and the characters it was building up were the things that drew me in most and kept me hooked the whole way.

To this day it's one of my favorite shows ever. Probably my favorite anime. I know a lot of people don't see it that way. So it got me wondering; why? Why don't people like it like I do?

So here's what I decided to do; I'm going to go through and rewatch the entire series of Kabaneri, probably the movie too, and write down everything I think about it as I'm watching it. (In sub, because that's how I originally watched it and it's made it so I can't stand their dub voices, too used to the subbed ones. XD Wanted to let you guys know just in case it matters.)

Hopefully this will be an enlightening experience for all of us. I might finally understand why people don't like it much and maybe whoever reads them will find a new appreciation for a show I adore.

BEANS ANON

I can deffo see Beans going on a date with Cyno !! Tbh for costumes, I'm was kinda torn, but I can actually see Beans and Cyno in matching mummy outfits with fake bandages wrapped around themselves and everything. I don't think they'd be too serious about having the best costume though– for the most part those two are in it just to dress up in matching costumes and hitting neighborhoods to get candy that they'll end up trading between themselves later, yk?

LUCID ANON

Deffo Luce and Albedo go to a costume party together! Specifically, I think that Klee would drag them both to a costume party that one of Albedo's friends are holding, so they all end up wearing matching costumes! Something really cute– I feel like Klee would dress up as a little princess in a dodoco-themed dress, Luce would dress up as a royal just to match klee, and Albedo would come as their knight in shining armor! Deffo all three of them stick together the entire night, with Luce being the keeper of any and all sweets that the three receive (also Luce and Klee deffo sneak some sweet snacks into their mouth, with Albedo pretending he doesn’t notice)

For my beloved 🔫 anon, since I’m kinda at an advantage bc ik they like Yelan 👀👀 I can so totally see 🔫 and Yelan going to an underground need-to-know kinda private club on halloween? The kind that not everyone knows about, and that is a bit less wild and messy than your average club, yk? I can also see those two definitely rocking matching villain costumes, too! Like, the refined kinda villains, if you get my drift? Like, Cruella de Vil kind of energy, with the big extravagant coats and the ‘don’t fuck with me I’ll buy your entire building’ kinda vibe? Actual badasses who enjoy their halloween in the corner together, chatting and being extraordinarily cool

🧡 HONEY ANON

For honey !! I can vv see honey going out with Yoimiya ! I dunno, those two are such sweethearts that they’d be the absolute life of any party! I can see them both in cute little ghost outfits! Like, the ones that are more intricate than just your run of the mill bedsheet-with-holes, but that are a bit too comical and cute to actually be scary! I can see both of them hanging out together, waiting at the door as they hand out candy to passing kids and teens who come, telling their young audience to give them their best ‘boo!’ and then rewarding them with candies!

DONUT ANON

Donut would 100% hang out with Kazuha, imo. Hmm, as for costumes... honestly, the first thing that popped into my mind is kitsune, so let’s go with that! Those two would look literally so good in their costumes, too? Like, it’s not incredibly high-level costumes like the kind you’d see at conventions or anything, but if they’re so good. I can also see them spending their halloween at a party, too! One that’s not very crowded– just some friends getting together for a fun evening watching scary movies together and walking around the neighborhood to go trick-or-treating!
