Fluffy snowy au fic. Uncertain where in time line. When is inconsequential. Snow fight. Lance starts it. Thows snow ball at Leon. Plays innocent. Throw another. Frame merlin. Leon goes for kill. Merlin protest this unprovoked fratercide attempt it was Lance. Lance does mischievous smile and eyes twinkle and Leon is a softy but he's a chaotic softy who's a bit competitive and it is on my dear. It devolves into chaos cus of course it does.. Leon drags Gwaine in by dumping armful of snow on his head. Gwaine laments about his hair freezing. His partners must defend his honor. (Yeah right elyan laughs as he becomes a roving agent the only side he's on is his own (and perci's)) Sword fight with icicles. Laughter. Pure fluff. Its so light hearted it boarders on crack. Boys collapse to ground laughing and exhausted. Omg. Snow knights. The superior version of snow angels. Excellent. Know that I could make it angst a thin frozen pond calls to me and begs me to make one fall in. No frozen lake. Another day. Let them be happy. I'll give a boy hypo and blub blub another time. Instead snow. Snow despite that not being realistic for the setting. I don't care i want Fluffy bastard boys snow fighting. Arthur not here BTW. I love my boy but the less I have to write him the better. Chapter 21 was hell and he kept evolving like a God damned Pokémon while writing. I don't need an Arthurlution while I'm trying to write snowy fluff. He can be cuddling with Gwen in the castle off screen. Or you know. Being king and running a kingdom.

That being said, some of these fics stretch the trope the tiniest bit. They do all have a wedding, a proposal, or a intended proposal though. Apart from picking my faves, I tried to vary it a bit, so only three out of these five are merthur.

Why I rec this: I love this fic so much because while Merlin and Arthur are, indeed, in an established relationship and clearly very much in love, there's still so much pining on both sides. There's such a well-handled undercurrent of realistic insecurity and hesitance to it, and it makes the eventual resolution so, so satisfying. I also just love how both Arthur and Merlin, as well as the rest of the cast, are handled, and the writing is absolutely fantastic.

A Happy Mistake by Polomonkey

Why I rec this: I have such a soft spot for this pairing, even though I can't for the life of me remember how I got into it. This fic encapsulates perfectly why I love it; both Morgana and Vivian are their awesome, snarky selves, the tension is off the charts, and I laughed through half the fic. The wedding isn't Morgana's and Vivians, yes, but it's what gets them together and also, Gwen and Elena get married which is also pretty awesome.

Coffee and Cherries by FutureAlien

Why I rec this: In fact, I've recced this fic before, but I cannot make a marriage (proposal) rec list and not put this on it. It might just be my favourite proposal fic ever; it's so, so tender from start to finish, the atmosphere is beautiful, Merlin and Arthur's banter and characters are spot on, and it never fails to put a huge, sappy grin on my face. I've re-read it so many times and it's fantastic every single time.

This one is so, so soft (also, pretty hot tbh, especially the other parts of the series it belongs to.) I just utterly adore the idea of Merlin and Leon spending their immortality together, not to mention that this fic does brush upon Arthur too. They're just... so damn soft, and both idiots, and there's a small, brilliant twist to it to top it off.

In which Arthur and Merlin have a horrible break up. A year later they're best man and man of honour respectively at Lance and Gwen's wedding. And they can deal with that, they really can.

Why I rec this: Okay yes, yes I know this one seems to be a bit out of place on this list, but also, it's not. Marriage is a central theme and overall vital to the story, and not only Lance's and Gwen's, and I just love this fic to pieces. The angst is delicious, the pining is off the charts, the resolution super satisfying, and it all ends happily. The angst tag is serious though, so if you've come to this marriage rec list looking for heaps of fluff and nothing else (which... yeah. One would expect, I'm aware, but I'm a sucker for angst I don't know what you expected) then maybe this isn't the right fic. If you like to see them work for it though, it absolutely is. Just don't forget the tissues.

The Filth in my Bones

this is a summary fic, and the basic rundown is that Merlin is feeling a sense of guilt from the things he has done--whether good or not, it all takes it's toll on a person.

The fic follows Arthur comforting Merlin and reassuring him that it's unrealistic to hold himself to such high standards when he doesn't hold others to those same standards, and that no man is strictly good or bad. Helps him deal with the guilt and worries.

A forgotten art

a snippet:

"There is a forgotten art," Merlin murmured, laying back against the damp grass beside Arthur.

He stared at the dark, clouded night sky with tired eyes. "A beautiful art... Lost to history—to the genocide of a whole people..."

Arthur shifted where he lay beside him, before folding his arms over his chest. "If it is forgotten how do you know of it?"

There was a beat of silence, a hesitation, before Merlin let out a long, quiet breath. He closed his eyes as they melted to a brilliant gold, unwanting of Arthur to see the colour.

"One family survived, hid, for centuries..." He whispered, waiting for the magic within him to settle and his eyes to fade to their usual colour before opening them once more.

Discovering Immortality

This is the second part of a series I started that is mostly crack but like treated seriously. Arthur is a vampire, Merlin is immortal, and they are boyfriends. it is a modern era series.
