Hi so this is gonna be weird but I need to freak out about ur g/t au. I love it sooo much you have no idea.
I just wanted to ask, since in a tweet you said giant bones are hollow, does this mean they follow bird bone rules? Like hollow but still dense to provide strength?(for example a bird and mammal that are roughly the same size will have a very similar weight despite the mammal having solid bones!)
Also it is believed that hollow bones help with air circulation during flight via pneumatic sacs connected to the respiratory system located in the bones themselves. So (if your giants follow this rule) does this mean they have amazing "lung" capacity? I imagine that their proportional lungs already compensate enough for the oxygen requirement but it is interesting to think about the implications. Being able to hold their breath for longer? Heavily oxygen saturated blood? How buoyant would they be?
Another thing I thought of! You already addressed the calcium requirement, but do your giants also need extra collagen? Since collagen is a primary component in bones and ligaments (and a bunch of other stuff but i need to keep mostly on track) and provides structure to your bones and joint support.
Anyway. That's all for now. Im sorry for the long message. I wish I could blend your AU and drink it. Also science is my jam. Thank you for your content!
this is a super fun ask!! thank you for bouncing biology ideas off of me!!
under a cut bc we get a lil long here:
so, to your first point: i'd like to point out that i'm going off of what we've seen in the past with dinosaurs, wherein these huge creatures had hollow bones to reduce the weight they would otherwise be carrying. i will admit i arbitrarily picked a weight scale factor for giants (12x instead of 15.6x), & am working in the hollow bones/additional air sacs/slimmer build in to make that work.
that being said! i would agree that giants have a (proportionally) different lung capacity than humans! probably bigger, more efficient lungs (taking advantage of those extra air sacs), which would help their metabolic efficiency. given their slower metabolisms ,too, i would wager that giants could probably hold their breath for a bit longer than humans.
hippos, which outweigh my giants, & are also fully warm-blooded, can hold their breath for about 5 minutes at a time. so, somewhat arbitrarily, i'd say that giants can maybe hold their breath for 5-7 minutes at once. still longer than a human for sure, but this ties into another question of yours & point of mine:
i have it in my mind/headcanons that giants in my au cannot swim well. they're somewhat like other great apes, like chimps, in that they don't maintain a lot of body fat––at least not so much to offset the density of their muscles, so they are more likely to sink in water, despite all the evolutionary adaptations to keep them light-weight. i touched on this a little in one of the MitB chapters where ghost & soap were bickering about ghost's ability to swim, where he asserted that he could, which wasn't common among giant kind. those that are dedicated can swim––ghost is able to & does know how to swim––but it is incredibly strenuous & exhausting & not sustainable.
which does tie into another aspect of giants! while they are undeniably bigger & stronger than humans, they don't have as much stamina. it's kinda impossible to maintain the same degree of stamina that humans have evolved at a giant size. so, while giants do have relatively more stamina than the average mammal, humans can still smoke them in terms of distance running. so, the the olden days, humans would wound & chase their prey animals into giant ambushes, where humans would chase the animals to exhaustion into a team of giants that would then take them down, or pursue them in the last few miles until they fully dropped.
moving back onto your points!: collagen! i find research on the consumption of collagen to be dubious at best, & have had college professors tell me that collagen "supplements" are just a bunch of bs, so... idk, i feel like whatever requirements giants need to maintain themselves is largely found in their diets. they do have very fibrous diets (mostly plant matter), & eat most of the less desirable parts of animals, like skin & bones.
but hey!! thank you for the ask!! i love thinking about stuff like this!! even if some of it has to be hand-waved, it's still fun to consider in a way that might make it semi-realistic!

MINE|JOHNNY CAGEX FEM!READER
☆SUMMARY: Johnny wasn't a jealous man, but you with his co-star seemed a bit too over the line.
☆ORIGIN: I don't really have a song for this LMAO btw this came from a request, thanks anon! The request is rlly long soo💀
☆WARNINGS: NSFW, obvious p in v, jealous sex, creampie, praise
MINORS DNI
Tumblr media
You knew Daniel. He was one of Johnny's co-stars, and a friend of yours. You had come to know it after he flirts with you multiple times, knowing you were with Johnny. But Johnny didn't seem to mind at all, you knew he wasn't jealous, he was just a bit protective. He knew when it went too far.
On a day where you got to the set first before Johnny, Daniel was on the set filming a scene and apparently, the girl he was supposed to make-out with... wasn't there! And who was?
You.
"It'll just be a small little session, darling." Daniel purrs, holding you by the shoulder after convincing the director to just put a wig on you. "C'mon, aren't we friends?"
"I don't wouldn't want to-"
"But we won't kiss anyway! Just some good ol' hollywood fake-a-roo."
Still, it weirded you out that he'd be presumably slobbering over your cheek in attempts to make the scene look real. You hoped no one would tell Johnny.
So they filmed the scene, and just like you thought, you had Daniel making out with your cheek and the Camera behind him where they could only see your hair and kissing noises.
After, it was like nothing happened. You went back to Johnny's trailer to just hang around until he came. Going over to the sink, you washed your face thoroughly, turning off the faucet and getting a scare.
"Johnny, baby!" You let out a yelp, holding onto your chest.
He stood, just beside the locked door of the trailer. You must've not heard him due to the water running.
"You enjoyed that, didn't you?" He said, it was obvious venom laced around his words.
"Huh? Enjoyed what?"
"That little make-out session you and Daniel had."
"Johnny-"
"Oh, but you enjoyed that, didn't you? Liked him kissing all over you?"
"No! We just filmed a scene since the other girl was gone!"
"Still," He walked over to you, managing to pin you on the small counter in the trailer, you leaning back in fear that he might bite. "Does it give you any permission not to talk about it to me first?"
"But, baby! It all happened so quick- I-"
"I- I- I-," Johnny imitated in a mocking fashion. "Answer me, does it give you any permission not to talk to me about it first?"
"N...No.."
"You know I'm not a jealous man, right, sweetheart?" You nod weakly. "But that just crossed the line."
You knew you were definitely in for a wild ride.
“Oh fuck, Johnny, I can't!" You moaned into the pillow, gripping the sheets tightly.
"You like that?" He pants, holding you by the hips with a death grip as if you were going to run away any minute. "You like how I fuck you?"
"Ah! Yes, Johnny, yes!" You felt a hand smack over your ass as he pushed his dick undeniably deeper into you. You felt Johnny slap it again and again, watching it jiggle, loving the sight of you squirming and moaning uncontrollably.
"You like that, huh? You like making me show my limits?" And you could only moan in response.
Johnny's pace slowed down as you whined. "Come on, baby, if you wanna cum, work for it."
"Johnny!"
"No buts, c'mom pretty girl. But you tell me who's the only person to make you feel like this and I'll help you out."
You moan, pushing your pussy back to him. "You do— ahh— please—!"
"Good girl," He cooed, this time lightly pulling you by the hair (but still having his other hand on your waist) gently and increased his pace. "Go on."
"Y-You! Only you can make me f-feel like this!" You stuttered over your own words, writhing and moaning uncontrollably.
"Mhm."
"Ahh! Please, make me cum!" You felt the familiar knot in your stomach tightening, about to rip into two pieces as you try to hold onto the damn bed.
"Yeah, baby, just— fuck— keep talking."
"Only you, J-Johnny! I love you, n-not anyone else!"
Your ass, moans and arched back were just too much for him, burying himself into you as you felt that knot snap in two "Ahh- fuck, Johnny!"
Your orgasm washed over you, thighs trembling, threatening to give out on you, your pussy clenching around him and your juices dripping down the sides.
He wasn't done though.
"Such a good girl for me." He pounded into you, over and over again until small tears started to flow from your eyes. "Yeah, I know baby, you're sensitive?"
You nod, too tired to have anything else come out your voice rather than moans.
"Come on, make those sounds for me, pretty girl, don't hide 'em."
That made you moan even louder as he pushed into you back and forth, leaning over you so his mouth was just next to your ear. "You like that, baby?"
You felt your second orgasm approach, clenching your pussy around him and tensing up a bit.
"My girl gonna cum on my cock again?" You could feel his smug grin pressed into the back of your neck. "Fuck, yeah, hold on." He still pounded into you but you felt him reach out for something and opening it, rubbing over your back.
Then you realize. He's writing his signature on your back. In Sharpie.
"You look good like this, babygirl— shit!"
He felt you cum again, juices slipping iut faster this time and he couldn't hold back.
"Ahh, fuck, shit, baby!" He pushed your head into the pillow as he came inside you, shoving all of his seed into your stomach that it made you feel full.
"J-Johnny..."
"I know, baby, I know.." He kissed you on the forehead. "You're sorry, right?"
You give another weak nod.
"Mhm, don't worry, baby, just don't let it happen again, yeah?"
You give a sigh and fall asleep, body plumping to the side as you hear Johnny get up to go grab a towel.
"Think I'll need a talk with Daniel."

some ghostsoap cnc with selkie ghost maybe? I'm curious how I'd all work with his coat :)
I love your fics btw thank you sm for posting them!
I've been saving this ask for a rainy day so I wrote most of this the day of ao3 shut down and the other half when my cat died so this just felt right. Also CNC is used as therapy in this because I was possessed while writing it and have no control over it
Ghost didn't feel too nervous handing the coat to Soap. That was a huge sign of the trust he had in Soap. Well. He had also maybe told Price to check in the morning if Soap gave it back, but that's so besides the point.
They had talked everything through thoroughly. It was safe. Ghost just had to remember that as Soap put on his coat and he felt his freewill slowly drip out of him.
"Remember. I push too hard. You get uncomfortable. Simple safe word stops everything."
"Yes, sir." Ghost responded immediately.
Soap swallowed. "Repeat the safe word for me?"
"Gunpowder."
"There you go. Are you sure about this?" Soap asked tentatively.
Ghost had suggested this after researching therapy techniques. Reliving the trauma in a healthy way. Soap mostly had the coat so Ghost wouldn't flip out and fight him. There were still clear boundaries and safe words. Either could step out at any time.
"I'm sure."
Soap nodded and gently bound Ghost's wrists behind his back. They were starting simple. Recreating when the lady....
The lady...
Soap's hand on his cheek brought him back to reality. "Simon."
"Keep going."
Soap nodded and pulled off his mask. He reached down and cut off Ghost's shirt.
"Don't touch me." Ghost snarled at him.
Soap ignored him. Instead running his hands over Ghost's body, squeezing his pecs and scratching down his chest. "Firm. You feel good."
Ghost growled louder at him and tried to get away, but Soap's hands were insistent. It felt good. It was Soap so of course it did. Soap would never hurt him.
His dick was certainly showing interest.
"Please..."
Soap leaned down and kissed him, biting at Ghost's throat. "Just relax and enjoy this."
Ghost's body immediately went lax and pleasure clouded his brain. He felt his pants get unzipped and he struggled more.
"No. No no no."
Soap stroked him slowly, getting a feel for it. "Jesus. You're so big. Not sure how I'll fit it."
Ghost pleaded with him to stop, even as he got hard. He found himself enjoying this a lot more than he thought he would but he wanted to play his part. Soap dripped lube on him slowly. The cold making goosebumps over his flesh. He shivered and tried to tense to brace himself, but the order to relax kept him from doing so.
His warm hand started to stroke him, spreading the cold lube around. "Going to ride you. A reward for all your hard work."
It wasn't expected, but it added a little to the realism. Ghost felt himself falling in a weird space between what actually happened and what's happening now at Soap's hand. He rubbed his thumb over Ghost's slit and made him groan.
Panic and pleasure started to curl up in his stomach. Soap wouldn't stop moving his hand and Ghost groaned.
"Stop. I can't."
Soap huffed. "No. Want to enjoy this." His body was on display. It made Ghost so goddamn horny it was hard to think. He felt so flustered and it felt so good.
Soap continued for a good long time before deciding he had enough. Then he threw his legs over his lap and sat up. He started to slide down on him, head falling back. For a moment, Ghost worried that Soap would hurt himself before realizing he must've stretched himself before hand. He felt so warm.
"No. I can't take it." Instinctively, he tried to escape his binds but he couldn't. His arms strained as he tried to break them and free himself.
"Yeah, you can." Soap started to ride him immediately, clearly enjoying himself. He kept his eyes on him just in case.
Simon panted softly and closed his eyes. He was panicking so much he almost couldn't enjoy it. He didn't want to safe word yet, wanting to keep pushing. Johnny wouldn't hurt him. Never would.
Soap leaned into his ear. "Just feel the pleasure alright? I want you to only feel good."
The order was accidental, but there. All of the synapses in Ghost's brain shifted, sending sparks of just pure pleasure through him. The small aches that never left his body and the soreness in his scars disappeared. All he felt was the warmth and his now impending orgasm.
Warmth and pressure. All around him. Soap's warm skin against his chest. Mouth on his and on his neck. His entire body sang as the pressure mounted and then he came, stars filling his vision.
Soap kissed him softly and moaned into his mouth, riding him through it. Overstimulation hit but it felt so goddamn good. Tears started streaming down his face as his ears rang. His refractory period must've been ruined by the order because he's fairly certain he came again.
His body could only feel the pleasure and without the pain to cut it, everything felt dizzying. It coursed through him and his brain felt like it was melting.
He must've blacked out for just a second because the next thing he knew, Soap was frantically trying to get his attention.
"Simon. Simon." He was shaking him slightly, looking scared. Ghost's coat was back around him so that's why the order ended.
"Johnny." His voice sounded wrecked and dopey even to his own ears. "Johnny."
"You okay? Jesus, I knew this wasn't a good idea I am so so-"
Simon kissed him softly, holding him close. "Perfect."
"What?"
"Perfect."
"You blacked out."
Simon shrugged and grinned, eyes focusing a bit more. "Cuddle me."
Johnny looked surprised but he did cuddle him. "You never really ask for this."
Simon shrugged and snuggled him, loose and vulnerable. "Yeah. Usually because I think of her. But right now...
I only think of you."

was very distracted and almost forgot to do this! whoops.
i did finish paul takes the form of a mortal girl and don't really have anything to add beyond what i said last week. orlando is on my reserved list at my library, so be interesting to see what i think of that!
also finished the city we became, which was very much a fun time. it manages to do horror and humour and social commentary and like, comic book hero all equally well without sacrificing the value of any of those pieces individually. even when i wasn't necessarily vibing with it, i could appreciate what it was doing. also as someone who doesn't know new york very well i found it mostly accessible, but that's with years of unintended cultural osmosis so idk. don't currently have book two but it's definitely on my tbr!
have pushed on a bit with mortal coil but idk, either i'm getting burnout on these or it's the culmination of the plot points i don't like (caylan, fletcher, the looming stuff with the teenagers), or even that this one isn't read by rupert degas for some reason. think i'll take a break and come back to them either in print or at some other time.
this morning i also started maurice by e.m. forster, so i'm maybe 20 minutes in? it's a queer classic written in 1913-14 about two separate relationships in the titular maurice's life (one unhappy as a young adult and one more relaxed as an adult). interesting enough so far, with some very well written lines and laying down of ideas for later. some period-typical racism but so far no more egregious than i was expecting. the guy reading it pronounces his name like 'morris' which caught me off guard but i'm getting used to it now.
feel weird counting it (since i skipped the inter-chapter sections) but i did technically read two-thirds or so of volume two of my brother's husband (i finally have the rest!) but i don't think i can spare the time to really come back to it until i've finished ace attorney investigations 2 (which will be soon, i swear). it's still excellent btw, thoroughly recommend.
that's it for this week, will update again next week! for people who have it, enjoy the bank holiday!

i realized i might have been a bit too "stern" with my statement about roeg's intentions because i don't think he ever said that directly but i listened to a TMWFTE commentary by roeg, bowie and buck henry some time ago and something he said gave me the impression that a direct book to movie adaptation wasn't his goal. the commentary also painted a pretty good picture of how he worked as a filmmaker for someone like me who isn't that familiar with his work. tbh he seemed to have interesting ideas but i still don't "get" what he was trying to do with TMWFTE. 🙈
but yeah... i don't really have much more to say about the 1976 film that you didn't say already. the only thing i somewhat disagree with is the cult movie thing. as someone who loves weird and nonsensical movies i can quite confidently say that sometimes bizarre, poorly-written seventies sci-fi is enough to be considered a cult classic. 😂 but i do get your point and i'm sure bowie had a lot to do with the movie's popularity. i sure as hell watched it solely because of bowie. i just didn't expect to get so emotionally attached to the story and characters. of the novel i mean. i'm ready to yeet almost everyone in the movie out of the window.
but all in all i don’t really have that strong negative/positive feelings about the film. if i compare it to the novel it’s a mess but if i watch it just for the aesthetics and unintentional comedy it’s alright. i mean candy clark's overacting paired with bowie’s ”nonacting” is very funny to me for some reason.
i just really really really wish someone would make an accurate film adaptation of the novel. is that really too much to ask??? there's two movies and one series already you'd think that someone is bound to get it right at some point even by accident.
oh my god this ask is turning into a whole-ass book again and i still have so many things to say. i'm sorry you can honestly tell me to shut up or just stop replying to me if this gets annoying. i promise i won't be offended!
i had to google kodi smit-mcphee because i had no idea who he is (although apparently he won a golden globe at some point lol) but i think he'd be an excellent choice for the role of thomas jerome newton. i also liked your idea of focusing on the anthean culture more. i really loved how the book described newton's thoughts and feelings and all the information about his home planet and way of life gives a deeper understanding of where he's coming from. literally and figuratively.
btw i watched the trailer for the new TMWFTE series and i think it's meant to be a sequel of some sort?? i looked at the cast and it had chiwetel ejiofor listed as "the alien" and bill nighy as thomas jerome newton and in the trailer bill nighy says "i brought you here to finnish what i started" so the series seem to take place after what happened in the book. i could be wrong but if i'm not it completely changes my mind about the series. i'm still a bit disappointed but a sequel is far better option than another inaccurate screen adaptation of TMWFTE imo. visually the series look good to me. the only thing that i'm not too crazy about is the heavy use of CGI in some parts because 1. my eyeballs are sick of it already and 2. it tends to age fast and poorly. but i guess it can be cool if it's used tastefully.
okay i thought i was finally done but there's one more thing i need to say. 😂😂 the reason why i like the idea of a sequel is that there's more room for creativity with less of a chance to completely fuck up the original story line. BUT it is still possible to mess something up and i think i already spotted a potential problem in the trailer but i think i'm just gonna keep it to myself because it might be explained in the series so i'm not gonna jump to conclusions just based on a trailer.
ok now i'm done.
Don't worry about book-length asks, I'm enjoying this conversation thoroughly! I've been a fan of the novel for almost five years now and I've never had anyone to talk with about it before.
And you're right about the cult movie thing - I didn't think of that. It probably wouldn't have been as iconic without Bowie, but it certainly still could have been. It's definitely strange enough, and I understand having an affinity for those kinds of movies, because I do to (just not that one 😂) . Like you said though, I wouldn't have watched it, read it, or probably even heard of it if Bowie wasn't in it.
I didn't pick up on the new one possibly being a sequel. You're right, I think that has a lot of potential to be considerably better than another inaccurate adaptation. And it's interesting, because David Bowie himself pretty much wrote a fanfic sequel to TMWFTE, the play Lazarus from 2015. I watched that play last year, and although I thought all the actors were great, the singing was great, and it was really fun to watch, I honestly did not understand what was happening most of the time. If the new adaptation is a sequel it will be neat to compare the two. And yeah, the CGI could definitely be toned down. I really hope we reach a point where filmmakers used a mix of CGI and practical effects, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for that. Anyway, knowing it might be a sequel and not an adaptation, I think I'll probably give it a try when it comes out.
Also, one last thing I wanted to point out: in my last ranting I was a bit too harsh on the screenwriter for the original movie. The dude's name is Paul Mayersberg and I want to say, for fairness sake, that he also co-wrote the screenplay of another Bowie movie, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, with Nagisa Ōshima (the director) and that is a FANTASTIC movie. It's also based off of a book called The Seed And The Sower by Laurens van der Post. I haven't read it so idk about accuracy but it's still a great movie and I've got to give him credit for that after I continuously insulted his writing in the last post 😂
