Threshold
Shasta and Mamoru had decided on Boogie Woogie Steakhouse for dinner while her sisters all scattered to their own destinations. The night was perfect, warm but not overbearing. The mother and son decided to walk back to their hotel. That, and Shasta needed the fresh air, the aloha blonde she had ordered had gone to her head just a little more than she liked and the bbq chicken, while delicious, was heavy.
They chatted together happily, Mamoru swinging Shasta’s hand as they moseyed down the street. Her youngest was currently over the moon with his meal and couldn’t wait for when they flew back home and he could tell his older siblings all about it along with everything he had yet to experience. Mamoru was feeling particularly spoiled to be spending a holiday on his own with Shasta. At first he was put out that he wasn’t included in his older siblings’ trip, stating he was too young. Now it was the last thing the kid could possibly care about.
The quiet of the area was shattered by a door bursting open. Shasta immediately stopped and yanked Mamoru behind her on instinct to guard him. The door bashed against the wall, sprung on its hinges it couldn’t even swing back.
Shasta watched as a young man wearing a white polo over blue jeans and loafers in a wheelchair was hurried out of the room like a bat out of hell. Pushing the man was a face she remembered from photos, or rather, she remembered his hair and red suit.
“...Ichiban…Kasuga?” Not entirely sure she remembered the name right.
He didn’t notice her and continued to fly down the street, fleeing something.
If she were anyone else, she’d leave it alone. But no one launched themselves out of a room like that unless there was trouble. She waited a beat, not seeing anyone following after Ichiban and his companion. From across the street she could see the faint light of a knocked over lamp.
“Hold my hand tight. We’re going to cross the street.” Shasta instructed.
Mamoru did as he was told. Together they quickly jay walked the quiet street.
Hearing no sounds of alarm from the ground floor hotel room, Shasta parked her son between the door jamb and the broken window. She took Mamoru gently by the shoulders.
“Stay right here, okay? Do not go inside. I’ll be just a second.”
Mamoru looked up at her with big, curious eyes. He nodded eagerly, knowing his mother's tone when she was absolutely serious.
Shasta couldn't hear anything but exhausted breathing. The room was trashed as she crossed the threshold; broken chairs, an end table with a snapped leg slumped with a lamp hanging off it by its cord. It smelled faintly of sweat underneath the natural perfume of the city.
Who the hell are these guys? Stepping passed two men, walking on the outsides of her feet, soundless in her sandals.
“What the hell happened in here?” She whispered.
She gave each man a cursory glance. Shasta was looking for someone who seemed like the one in charge.
Not him, not with those sandals. Several of them wore aloha shirts and sunglasses despite the sun being long set. Her foot tapped someone else's.
Looking down it was a sizable pair of feet, wearing double monk strap loafers. She followed the length of his long legs. Tall, broad shouldered and spread eagle on the floor. He wore a nice pinstripe suit. Of all the other men sprawled on their asses, it was clear he was the one in charge.
Shasta crept down onto her hands and knees beside him. He was so still Shasta couldn't be sure if he was even alive. She reached under the neck of his sweater, two warm fingers pressing into the side of his throat.
He's not dead, good pulse but his skin is cool, weird with this weather.
Slowly, she slipped a hand into the breast pocket of his suit, pulling out a plain black wallet and she flipped it open.
Up close she smelled good soap, masculine and woody; but little else. Judging from his face and hair; she figured he didn't spend too much time on himself other than keeping his facial hair groomed.
“Yutaka Yamai…with a nicely done fake ID.” She mumbled, pausing for a second. “That's probably the best I've seen.”
She made a note that his photo was just as ugly and unflattering as any officially issued license, including hers. Quickly she put it back, he still hadn't stirred.
-
Yamai was conscious. He was just waiting. The smell of high end perfume as the person kicked his foot and bent down told him it was a woman. He sensed her kneel down, keeping still as her fingers, the tips soft, pressed into his neck.
Yamai let her reach into his breast pocket. With the intoxicating perfume; the sound of her voice made it hard to picture what she looked like, low and soft, but raspy as she mused over his ID. She leaned over him, the ends of her hair brushed over his cheek, tickling.
-
“Hey, Scarecrow.” She called softly, tapping his gaunt cheek with the back of two fingers.
He then stirred. Despite his size he was quick, snatching her by the wrist, just tight enough where she couldn't worm away. Lurching up off his back he came nose to nose with her, Shasta felt her nose briefly tickle. Meeting his eyes directly, they looked a little worn, deep set with dark shadows under them. Yamai and sleep were estranged if she had to guess.
“You know Kasuga?” His voice was very deep and round, a little reedy; it rumbled in Shasta’s ears.
It's almost eighty degrees, is he sick? Spying a peacoat cast aside beside them that paired with his suit overtop a ribbed turtleneck. The thought of all that fabric made her itch. Shasta mentally picked him apart. His demeanor, neck length black hair he let hang in his face, his dogged stare. He could be bad news.
“I know you can speak, little sister. Heard you when you came in.”
Shasta swallowed, keeping her nerves and temper in check.
“He's a friend of my cousin’s. I saw him leaving just now like there was fire on his heels.”
She watched his tongue run along the inside of his mouth in front of his bottom teeth, deciding if she was telling the truth. All she could do is be calm and wait.
Yamai gazed at her, her jet black eyes in the low lamp light glittered. She was pretty with fine lines at the corners of her eyes, beauty marks scattered on her face. Thick, well-groomed brows bent into a bit of a scowl. She didn't take her eyes off him and she didn't cower away from him.
“Do I know you?” He asked absently. Something about her face struck him as familiar.
Sizing her up; petite but buxom, her chest raised calmly with each breath. Wearing a dusty pink short sleeved turtle neck tucked into high waisted light wash jeans. She had curvy hips that were brought to attention by the thin white belt at her slimmer waist. Casual but she reeked of class. Money.
But she looked familiar, something about her was like a memory.
Yamai wondered how a woman like her would know a yakuza, and one who inadvertently spearheaded the ending of the two largest clans in Japan.
“We’ve never met.” She replied curtly. Her mouth; full and rosy blush colored, naturally set into a frown. Her head tilted down and in slightly, trying to ease her wrist from his long fingers without seeming desperate.
Yamai caught a glint by her right ear. The tips of her ears stuck out from her silky faux blonde bob. He let go of her wrist and nonchalantly moved her hair, tucking it behind her ear. Brassy gold hoops that hugged the lobe, with a connecting ring that held a pear cut yellow diamond. It caught the light and sparkled, almost dripped from her lobe.
“Your fuzzball friend cost me a lot of money. How much do these go for?” He asked, flicking the jewel with the pad of his forefinger.
Yamai fixed his gaze back to center away from her ear, fingers still lazily teasing her. She licked her lips before she spoke feeling a bit like a prize the way he leered at her like a crow to something shiny. Shasta couldn't help but flush as he continued to play with her ear.
“...As a pair they're 45k, so half that. I imagine not a single one of your lackeys has ever made you that much…except maybe that kid with the glasses by the door, he's cute.” She replied calmly, tone certifiably bitchy.
“Mama?” Mamoru interrupted them.
“I told you to stay outside, honey.” She called back.
Yamai watched her expression flit to panic for just a split second, but she never took her eyes away from Yamai.
He could feel her body wind up. Every muscle torqued and ready to fight if he decided to divert his attention to her kid. Just the two of them, she’d been letting him lead. Now she was going to strike if need be.
“But Mama, you’ve been inside for–”
“Mamoru!” Her voice with its rasp was harsh, putting her son in his place.
She's a fighter.
Saying nothing, Yamai popped the latch of her earring with his first finger and slowly slipped it through the soft tissue of her earlobe and into his hand. He watched her eyes cast down, lashes obscuring her eyes, watching him rolling the stone in his palm with his thumb. Her face gave nothing away as she watched his hand.
Guess she wouldn't care, they're probably insured.
“Go.” Ticking his head back towards the open door.
“What, you don't want the other?” She asked, eyes cutting back up to him. He scoffed, he liked her prissy attitude.
“I’ll come find you if I change my mind.” He snarked back.
Shasta gave him one last long look before pushing off her knees and onto her feet. Her face rocked dangerously close to his. Yamai felt her breath breeze past his cheek and another waft of her perfume hit his nose. It wrapped around him for a moment and then was gone. He swallowed the weird unidentifiable twinge of emotion.
Without another word she moved past his men, bonking the one she had called cute in the head as she went.
-
Yamai got to his feet, and cleared the room to the door, also giving Tomizawa a knock in the head. Tomizawa balled himself up and held his head tight, groaning loudly.
Yamai skulked out of the room and watched Shasta walk quickly down the street, holding her son's hand while she texted someone with the other. The boy had a mop of curly black hair. He looked up to his mother, talking to her, still within ear shot.
“Mama, who were those guys? Why did they leave the door open? That's not safe.”
She looked from her phone to him and squeezed his hand, giving him a smile. “Those guys were up to mischief.” A bit of humor in her voice.
“So they’re bad?”
Yamai staring after her so hard Shasta turned, eyes meeting at a distance. The smile she gave the kid was still in place for a split second that hammered right through Yamai. Again a memory he didn't have that faded along with her smile.
She blinked and turned back to Mamoru.
“No, baby. Not everyone who does a bad thing is bad.”
The boy thought about it before nodding. “Okay. So where is Wakaba’s friend?”
Yamai just barely heard the ping of her phone. “That…is what I am about to find out…” Trailing off as she sent another text.
Walking around the corner out of sight, Yamai couldn't hear the rest. She had a cold snobby air about her and a bitchy expression. But she was classy. To Yamai she was reminiscent. The diamond earring was warmed in his hand, rolling it between his fingers, a shiver ripped viciously down his spine.
-
Walking down the avenue with Mamoru, she rolled through her contacts. Down to the J’s she called out.
-
In Chicago a cell phone angrily buzzed on a desk. Jay Halstead was fried. It was going on two in the morning. His fair, freckled skin had a chill from being tired. He had been zoning out watching snow flurries dance in the windows. He grimaced at his phone, wondering who could possibly be calling him.
Jay had drawn the short straw and was stuck drawing up the DD5s on their latest case. The cold quiet made him all the more tired and the coffee he brewed tasted like shit. If he had thought about it, he'd have brought better from home. But he was so confident that he'd get to go home at a reasonable hour.
He scratched his jaw, feeling the day growing in as he turned over his phone and saw Shasta’s name flash on the face.
“C’mon.” He complained, answering. “Hawaii sucks that bad you have to call me?”
Shasta wrinkled her nose. “You answered so you're worse off than I am, it seems. Can you ping a phone for me, please?”
“You’ve been in Hawaii for like, what, two seconds? How are you already working?”
The dry humor of the young detective made her roll her eyes, she could picture his snarky expression, those big blue eyes bright.
“I’m not trying to, but of course, I stepped into something.” She rattled off the number to Jay.
“Uh-huh!” He chirped sarcastically, quickly waking up his computer, and pulling up the proper software. “I got an…Ichiban Kah-soo-gah..?”
“Not quite, but you tried. Does it show where he is?” Shasta asked.
“Guy pinged a cell tower heading west on Aloha St.”
“Thank you, Jay.” Ready to end the call.
No way he was going to let her off the phone without giving her a hard time.
“Shas, you gotta bring me back something cool, or I’ll be totally put out. I- I might even die if I don't get cool swag–” Feigning hard his impending doom.
“Goodbye, Jay–” Promptly she hung up on him.
Shasta sighed, slipping her phone into her back pocket. Mamoru looked up at his mother and smiled, a coy smile. He was waiting for his mother to explain properly.
Shasta let go of his hand and put her arm around his shoulders and hugged him to her.
“It's probably nothing, baby.”
Despite her words; Shasta had a feeling that there was a lot more than Ichiban pissing off a small group of small-time shitkickers.
-
Dug out of a box he carelessly tossed CDs and DVDs that sat in the corner or his room. It wasn't the original. That one was vinyl and was still in his childhood bedroom.
That is if his older sister didn't shitcan everything he had left behind when he left home.
It was vivid in his mind. Yamai could see himself, that gangly, homely preteen. He remembered that his arms and legs had ached like hell all that summer from a growth spurt. He was passing a little record shop and in the window an album cover had caught his attention.
The record was a bait and switch. It had the clear look of an indie pop album; a young girl, maybe a few years older than he was, with a smile that rotted the teeth. It was so sweet, too sweet. The girl had mostly straight teeth, canines top and bottom a little crooked. The top of her gums visible as she beamed. She was standing in a sunlit field, shielding her eyes from the sun, long black hair swept up in a heavy breeze looking directly at you. Her ears stuck out, adding to her darling charm. She wore a sleeveless denim dress with a floral sailor collar.
The music was pure unbridled anger. The heavy chug of guitars, deep moody bass, drums that if you pressed your headphones hard enough to your head it threw your heartbeat off. The woman was a singer with a smoky siren allure but could startle with gut wrenching growls. It was everything a bratty teenage boy could want.
But it was the girl on the sleeve who pulled Yamai in. He jumped another kid to steal his allowance to buy that record. He had beat the kid bloody to get what he wanted. He had to have it. That girl with her goofy ears and smile wooed him for years until he was an adult.
Yamai found the CD and sat on the edge of his bed, staring hard at the disc cover. His teenage muse was still as beautiful as ever. When CDs came out the booklet had more pictures that didn't make the final cut. He hadn’t really looked at the booklet, he had merely seen the album in a second hand shop here in Honolulu and picked it up without thinking about it. He had been moved purely by nostalgia. A time where life wasn’t frigid and didn’t suck shit.
Thumbing through it there was no doubt about it. Her body was a little different, hips and breasts fuller from age and childbirth. Her jaw was a little softer, crows feet from scowling. But there was no mistaking the placement of the moles on her face. The flare of her ears that made them peek through her hair. One of the pages the girl wasn’t smiling, just her face at rest. That natural downturn of her mouth at the corners.
The woman in the hotel room was this same girl.

ride or die playlist
by @pixeljazzy and @zigtheeortega
so after pj made this post, and was encouraged by @choicesarehard to make a playlist for rodaw, i reached out to her and we decided to collab! this is a comprehensive playlist, with explanations for each song. some being the lyrics fit really well, but others are because the vibe fits the characters (in our opinion), not necessarily the song meaning.
putting the song explanations under the cut, since it’ll be long! songs picked by pj have [p] next to it and mine have [j] next to it! hope you enjoy it!
Logan
What You Know Bout Love, Pop Smoke [p]
I had to apply the pressure, ‘cause you my hidden treasure / I think I’m falling in love
Are we surprised this song is first? C’mon now. Anyway, literally when I heard it for the first time, I was like this is the love song that I could see someone just vibing to in a car with their partner, at a house party in the corner serenading their boo, etc. and then BOOM a vision of Hieron and Logan in a car appeared because I could totally see this as their vibe. Just the thought of Logan rapping this line to Hieron clears my skin.
[p.s. pj wrote a fic based on this song and it’s perfect you should read it]
The Way, Trippie Redd ft. Russ [p]
We’re lost but, babe, we found the way
Because Logan and MC are two teens are a mess lowkey and don’t know what they want from life quite yet but they know they got it together.
Think About Me, dvsn [p]
This song is just radiating Logan and MC parting ways vibes
FIND MY WAY, DaBaby [p]
I feel like as Logan is driving away from MC to god knows where, this is something he’d definitely drive to
Seasons, 6lack ft. Khalid [p]
You’re lucky the greatest thing I can do is marry you / ‘cause if I could, I’d spill my blood
I absolutely adore this slow, chill song, and feel like this is something MC and Logan would be listening to as they unwind in their loft, and with the favorite line, I think it encapsulates how much Logan truly loves and would do anything for MC
Idfc, blackbear [p]
This is giving me Logan vibes after the reveal where MC leaves the shop and he’s just reeling in his emotions and feelings and is just purely in his bag thinking about everything
Hide, Juice WRLD ft. Seezyn [p]
Really think I found my home, shorty made me feel at home
Think I met my soulmate, yeah, I know it
Dusk Till Dawn, ZAYN ft. Sia [p]
But you’ll never be alone / I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn / I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn / Baby, I’m right here
This song hurts me so so much but it’s giving me MC sleeping on Logan’s chest type of vibes while he’s up because he can’t sleep and he’ . Also reminds me of Logan because we all know that infamous line “I was just a rock in space lucky enough to burn up in your atmosphere for a moment,” and I feel like this was an unspoken if you look to the stars you’ll know I’m always with you type beat.
Fool In Love, Rihanna [p]
Mama, I found a man / who loves me and understands / papa, he’s quite a man / he adores me, he’s my biggest fan
Okay so y’all remember how MC was having a mini identity crisis and didn’t know which version of herself she was? And Logan was listening and understanding and processing everything she was ranting about but in the end was just like no matter which one you decide, I like all of you? Yeah, that. Along with him just supporting her whenever he can, even though sometimes it can be overbearing, and him just loving watching her change and grow before his eyes (even though we not gonna mention the part of him that doesn’t love that change, feeling guilty for the person she’s becoming and how it could change her life, and the initial intentions he had although how he feels now is genuine) is literally what I think about with these lines
And don’t get me wrong, I know he’s not perfect in your eyes / but somehow he’s flawless in mine
Papa, did I let you down? / Are you ashamed of how your little girl turned out?
This is the lyric that really gets me because one of the things I loved about Ride or Die was the complicated relationship MC had with her father as it was something that resonated so strongly with me. So this one right here really just encapsulates an aspect of that because when MC’s on her this is who I am now and I know you resent that because he genuinely is so hurt and in shock of how his girl changed before his eyes, beyond the reigns of control that he once had, and he can’t do anything else but process and accept that his little girl isn’t so little anymore, rolling around with the people he tried so hard to keep her away from.
Roll Dice, Roddy Rich [j]
I seen the Reap’ come / Live my life I had to roll dice / Been through strife, my heart is cold as ice
I’m a star, I’m just hidden in the low light
Pretty explanatory, considering Logan’s been through a considerable amount of situations that put him in harm’s way and he’s come out stronger (and considerably more detached) each time.
Story Of Us, Tinashe [j]
Yeah, you’re the prince of my heart / And now there ain’t no way they can keep us apart, keep us apart
This song reminds me of Logan and MC a lot because it’s an optimistic take on their relationship as a whole and the sad ending.
You Know That I Love You, Donnell Jones [j]
You know that I love you / And that ain’t gon’ change / And though you’re not here with me now / My love for you stays the same
I think Logan would listen to R&B, specifically sappy 90’s R&B, and this line reminds me of them perfectly. I mean just listen to it, it’s perfect.
My Favorite Part, Mac Miller & Ariana Grande [j]
Said, you just don’t know how beautiful you are / And baby that’s my favorite part / You walk around so clueless to it all / Like nobody gonna break your heart
Said, the universe couldn’t keep us apart / Why would it even try?
Before things come together, they have to fall apart
Logan says from the get go that he thinks it’s wild that MC is modest and that he’s surprised she hadn’t gotten a lot of attention from guys. The other song lyrics I mentioned remind me a lot of their separation.
Colt
Me And My Girlfriend, Tupac Shakur [j]
Lost in the whirlwind, ninety-six, Bonnie and Clyde / Me and my girlfriend, do one-eighty-five when we ride
All I need in this life of sin, is me and my girlfriend / Down to ride to the bloody end, just me and my girlfriend
So it’s canon that Colt likes West Coast rap – and this song absolutely embodies Colt’s musical interests and his relationship with MC. He wouldn’t admit it out loud but he definitely heard this song and thought of MC.
Something Special, Pop Smoke [p]
I think you’re something special / I’ll take you on a shopping spree
We all know Colt is the king of LA and can definitely buy him and MC anything they want, also the “her father the police” verse quite literally hit the nail on the head
Martin & Gina, Polo G [p]
He was playing games / Got you dancing in the middle of the club
At first, saw this as a Logan and MC song to listen to in the car, but if you’re like me and was romancing Logan but danced in the club with Colt because Logan was being distant, the lyrics just do it for me
Hit ‘Em Up, Tupac Shakur [p]
You couldn’t tell us Colt wouldn’t love this song, we’re not accepting criticism at this time
Pulling Me Back, Chingy ft. Tyrese [j]
Every time I try to leave / Something keeps pulling me back, me back / Telling me I need you in my life / It was meant to be / You were meant for me / So that means we gotta make it work
This song reminds me a lot of Colt’s feelings towards MC, because in the lyrics they’re not mentioning they necessarily love her, they’re just gravitating towards her, realizing they need her. And that’s exactly how Colt works through his feelings.
Loveeeeeee Song, Rihanna ft. Future [j]
Boy lately, you been stingy with your time / Got me wondering, I’m wondering if I’m on your mind / Boy I just wanna be in your possession / You say I’m the one you want so come express it
Yeah, we all know Colt wasn’t straightforward with his feelings but is more prone to expressing himself physically, and I think this song feels like a confession of her own qualms with him but recognizing that she’s alright with him being physical over verbal. Honestly it’s probably not that deep but this song reminds me of Colt x MC so much.
Complicated, Rihanna [j]
Why is everything with you so complicated / Why do you make it hard to love you / Oh I hate it / ‘Cause if you really wanna be alone / I, will throw my hands up ‘Cause baby I tried
God this whole song is Colt and MC all over because he’s so wishy washy and doesn’t express himself properly.
90210, Travis Scott [j]
I think Colt and Logan would bump this and that’s my only reasoning.
Changed Up, Rae Sremmurd [j]
I think Logan and Colt both alike would bump this in their car and maybe relate to the lyrics and the general vibe of it.
Demons and Angels, A Boogie With a Hoodie ft. Juice WRLD [p]
I’m from the West Side, know not to play with us, yeah
I think I’m addicted to this lifestyle, I swear
Colt is quite literally from the West Side, and the ‘I think I’m addicted to this lifestyle’ line is what really stood out to me because Colt wanted nothing than to be a part of his father’s life and legacy, and Kaneko wanted to keep that separate from him because he knew Colt would be all in.
Run This Town, Jay-Z ft. Rihanna [p]
Does this need an explanation because you already know Colt is running the fuck outta LA thank you for tuning in
Mona
Ungodly Hour, Chloe x Halle [j]
You know that I’ve, I heard it all before / You’re hesitant, wish you could give me more
I don’t have the time / To teach you how to love all over again / Now let me ask you this / Are you giving all that you could give?
This is Mona and MC all over. She was clear about being hurt by an ex, and that it was hard for her to open up to MC in the first place, let alone fall for her. So this is like a confessional from MC to Mona.
Te Amo, Rihanna [j]
Then she said Te amo, then she put her hand around my waist / I told her no, she cried Te amo / I told her I’m not gonna run away, but let me go / My soul is awry and without asking why / I said Te amo
The lyrics are sad but this reminds me of Mona and MC, too. There’s a lot of push and pull with Mona, so I think this describes their back and forth so well.
Scared of Love, Juice WRLD [p]
Not scared to love, just scared of love
I initially put this in the Logan section, but I think it’s more fitting for Mona because she put up these walls to avoid putting herself at risk in the process of giving someone her all after the last girl played her, but underneath it all, she’s still capable to love even though she may think she’s undeserving of it from MC or that love in itself is a scam.
ball w/o you, 21 Savage [p] [and j bc our minds are linked]
I’d rather have loyalty than love / ‘Cause love don’t really mean jack / See love is just a feeling / You can love somebody and still stab them in they back
This is giving me Mona and her ex vibes, and just how Mona is a very everyone for themselves type of person so she has no problem balling by herself because that’s what she expects in the end.
Escape, Akon and Wizkid [p]
We can run away / so far away, escape
Oh, my baby, oh, baby / I would never let you go
Okay I know our songs for Mona have been sad lately, but this reminds me of them because Mona said MC would be hard asf to forget and I already know MC is scrambling to find a solution, a possibility, where Mona didn’t have to go to jail and they’d be able to be together, hence ‘escape’.
Escape, Kehlani [p]
Strange for me to wanna love someone / Who’s better by themselves
‘Cause I can’t let you lose yourself, looking for me / And I can’t let you make me your, your everything
I know you see this escape theme I’m on here LMFAOO but I think this is in Mona’s perspective about MC because she’s like MC is a goody two shoes, new to this life, etc. just overall someone with a better future than me and I don’t wanna mess that up for them (hence the I’m dangerous and pushing her away in the beginning and all the warnings).
Acquainted, The Weeknd [p]
Baby, you’re no good / Cause they warned me ‘bout your type girl, I’ve been ducking left and right
To say that we’re in love is dangerous / But girl I’m so glad we’re acquainted
Can’t Remember to Forget You, Shakira ft. Rihanna [p and j]
I can’t remember to forget you / I keep forgetting I should let you go
“You’re gonna be damn hard to forget.”
This is so Mona because it’s both flexible in meaning with her ex and MC.
MC
Don’t Make It Harder On Me, Chloe x Halle [j]
If you keep acting so sweet / I might just wake up and leave / This boy that I pinky swore / We’d be together for sure / I can’t be thinking of you / When I’m alone with my boo / If you smile at me again / I may do something stupid
Gives me Logan/Colt/Mona love triangle type vibes!
Who Can I Run To, Xscape [j]
Who can I run to, to share this empty space? / Who can I run to, When I need love? / Who can I run to, to fill this empty space with laughter?
After her li’s leave this def gives me those bittersweet vibes like when they all leave L.A., including MC for college.
Aston Martin Music, Rick Ross [j]
Bobbin’ to the music / This is how we do it, all night / Breezin’ down the freeway / Just me and my baby
Would’ve came back for you / I just needed time to do what I had to do / Caught in the life / I can’t let it go / Whether that’s right I won’t ever know
This reminds me of another bittersweet moment like MC is reflecting on her favorite times with her LI, but also acknowledging that her LI can’t be 100% loyal to her because of her lifestyle
Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary, Rihanna [j]
Brown eyes, tuxedo, fast cars / A James Dean on the low, Dean on the low
Who knew the course of this one drive / Injured us fatally
Let’s live in the moment / As long as we got each other / Die in the moment / I’m prepared to die in the moment / ‘Cause even forever ain’t forever
This entire song fits for all the LI’s (despite the lyrics saying “boy” it works for all of them perfectly. I just picked a couple lyrics to prove it!
Question Existing, Rihanna [j]
Who am I living for?/ Is this my limit?/ Can I endure some more?/ Chances I’m given, question existing
Reminds me of when MC was torn between loyalty to her father and Jason Shaw and MPC at the same time.
Bed of Lies, Nicki Minaj ft. Skylar Grey [p]
This is 100% MC after the reveal.
Change Your Life, Kehlani ft. Jhene Aiko [p and j]
I heard that you a gangsta / Not one to try to save her / Always focus on your paper / Don't got time to wager with your heart
You deserve someone that'll take you to another level
The lyrics to this song fit so well with all of the LI’s. Definitely addresses all of the LI’s reluctance to be with MC and MC’s pursuit of them.
Serial Lover, Kehlani [p and j]
Lord knows / My intentions are pure and my heart full of gold, oh
This song fits MC’s relationship with all of the LI’s, especially when there’s conflict between them. MC is miles more transparent with her feelings than Logan, Colt, and Mona.
She’s So Gone, Naomi Scott [p]
So it looks like the joke’s on you / ‘cause the girl that you thought you knew / She’s so gone
You can look but you won’t see the girl I used to be, ‘cause she / she’s so gone, away / like history
Yes this is from Lemonade Mouth and yes I feel like this embodies MC perfectly!
Misc.
(this includes Ximena, Toby, side characters, the overall vibe of ROD, etc.)
Tints, Anderson .Paak ft. Kendrick Lamar [j]
Ridin’, ridin’, round that open street / I need tints / I need my windows tinted / I can’t be flying down that 110 with a bad bitch in my whip / I need tints
This reminds me a lot of Ximena and Toby because they’re so chill and carefree compared to the rest of the crew, and this song embodies that.
Nascar, Roddy Ricch [p]
Honestly, heard this song and thought I’d be perfect for another side show, or a racing song
We Don’t Luv Em, HoodRich Pablo Juan [p]
Another side show/racing song
DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love, Usher [p]
I feel like this could’ve played at the club depending on the vibe they were going for, and even if they weren’t, I feel like the club was a very romantically charged event so the DJ had errbody falling in love (MC and whoever, Toby and the guy he went off to dance with, etc.)
break da law, 21 Savage [p]
Me and my dawgs break laws
This is Kaneko and the crew, even though Kaneko would never call them his dawgs, but you get the gist.
Trust Nobody, Lil Wayne ft. Adam Levine [p]
I don’t trust nobody, not my lovers, not my friends / I don’t make no promises ‘cause I know just how they’ll end / I don’t trust nobody, I don’t need nobody else / And as messed up as it sounds, I don’t even trust myself, yeah
This hurts me because the song talks about not being able to trust people in general so I feel like this has been Logan all his life, Mona after she was betrayed, and Colt after the death of his father (minus the don’t trust my lover part because obviously they are whipped for MC and you can’t change my mind).
Undercover, Kehlani [p]
You know they don’t wanna see us together / But it don’t matter, no, ‘cause I got you
Baby, they don’t wanna see me be happy / ‘Cause they ain’t happy, no -- they don’t got you
So this is MC with all the LI’s because everybody (Riya, Darius, her dad, etc.) thinks everyone in the crew is bad news but no matter who MC is with, they’re happy with them regardless of what everyone thinks.
Party Monster, The Weeknd [p]
Okay, this might seem really weird, but I feel like this is a song that would play in the background as the crew would plan or orchestrate a heist you know like the camera panning to different people just really focused on that they’re doing like there’s some camera work going on in my head that I wish I could properly articulate but I hope you guys see the vision.
Shut Up and Drive, Rihanna [p and j]
This is self explanatory.

"You Murdered Your Wife!"
Christmas Week Review
(Episodes Commencing Tuesday 22nd December 2020 - Saturday 26th December 2020!)
Hello everyone! I'm sure it's been a hot minute since I last posed, I hope you all had a brilliant week and a brilliant Christmas! This blog post is going to be a little different, there's quite a bit I've missed recently due to working over the Christmas period and also seeing family. So instead of posting a post about an individual episode, I'm going cover the whole Christmas run up and reveal in this one post! I hope it'll give me the opportunity to catch up with you and enjoy our discussions revolving around recent events.
So firstly, I'm going to start with Honey's Community Christmas Dinner! After all her hard work of bringing everyone together and putting on a fabulous Christmas dinner for the community, disaster strikes when the fridge stops working, causing all the food to be all ruined! Only of course, Jay is there to save the day, it's clear he's been swooning over her for months now and what better way to win her over than to gather together some last minute prepared food and to add the icing on the top, announce to their neighbours how much of a wonderful woman she is! During the festivities everyone is dancing in the street, whilst other locals including Denise, Jack, Bernadette and Patrick eat and drink and be merry. Also I just want to mention how hilarious Kim was, arriving drunk and throwing up through out the day and eventually getting up for a boogie with the rest of the locals. The day ended on a high when Jay and Honey were left in the kitchen cleaning everything up, only things got a bit hot when Billy caught them kissing! (We all knew it was going to happen eventually!) Elsewhere, Tina had been released on bail after being charged with Ian's attempted murder, however when a brick is thrown through the Queen Vic window, warning Ian that things are not yet over, Ian comes to believe that Tina is not behind his attack, as Gray and Shirley both vouch for Tina being at home at the time when the brick was thrown! Also, Max proposes the idea to Linda of doing a runner and leaving together for New Zealand, he claims that he fully believed Linda attacked Ian and reveals that he got rid of the murder weapon, thinking he was doing it to save Linda! Only when Linda announces that she's not responsible for Ian's attack, he worries that if the police find out about the Lucy Beale Award, he could be sent down for a crime he didn't do!! He's convinced that Linda loves him as much as he loves her, he tries to persuade her, mentioning that Mick doesn't show her any form of love or intimacy anymore!
--
After witnessing Honey and Jay locking lips, Billy is clearly devastated, he feels betrayed that the boy he brought up as his own and his ex-wife have been intimate behind his back. He's completely and utterly heartbroken that they could've done this to him! They catch up with him and promise that their kiss never meant anything! Even though by the looks in their faces, deep down you can tell they both have feelings towards one another. They give their word to Billy that it was a terrible mistake and it'll never happen again, to which he responds that if it ever does, both Jay and Honey will be dead to him! I do doubt though however that Jay and Honey will struggle to be away from each other. In other parts of Walford, things are looking bad for Tina, after her conversation with Shirley, she's shocked when he sister offers her some money and proposes that she does a runner, this leaves Tina feeling shocked, admitting that if she ran it'll make her look guilty. But Shirley is convinced with the amount of evidence building against her, she may have no other option but to run, as she's scared for her sister. Devastated that her sister doesn't believe her, later Tina turns to her brother, Mick. Surprisingly, Mick apologises to his sister for speaking to her in such an awful way previously, he suggests that she doesn't run and that she faces it head on, and he promises to be by her side when she does. Can I just mention what an absolutely amazing scene that was between Mick and Linda! After Max being found in his flat, Mick reveals that he's already aware about his wife's infidelity. Only when Linda arrives, she begs Max to leave whilst she tries to talk to her husband. This scene was absolutely brilliant, amazing performances by Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright! After trying to explain to her husband about her actions, she pleads to him to fight for her, she is literally crying and pleading to him to show her that he cares for her, even in just the smallest way! But when Mick says that if Max makes her happy, he won't stand in her way, she can't seem to believe the words she's hearing and slaps her husband around the face, just to get a response, even taking it a step further by threatening to have an alcoholic drink! When she desperately asks him "Why won't you fight for me?!" - he simply replies with "I have no fight left!" - This is absolutely devastating for the couple, for a split moment when Mick got up from his seat, I thought he was going to let rip, fling a chair over the room or something - but there was simply nothing! After realising that her marriage isn't going to be fought for, Linda heads back to Max, when he reveals he has actually fallen in love with her, she admits that she still loves her husband but it looks as if their marriage could well and truly be over. Elsewhere, Ian tries his absolute best to apologise to his sons, his intention is to apologise to everyone he's wronged in an attempt for all the death threats to stop, starting with Peter and Bobby. After he makes an emotional, pleading speech to his sons, they invite him to attend the community event later in the evening, Ian is more than pleased and thankful to have been able to rekindle his relationship with his sons. During the event, everyone is gathered at the Square, watching a slideshow of neighbours and friends they've lost over the previous years, whilst a beautiful choir sings Silent Night. Images of our favourite characters including Peggy, Abi, Chantelle, Pauline, Pat, Dot and Ethel are shown to the community, everyone is reminiscing and sharing happy tears as they share memories of loved ones, even Phil and Karen attend as their loved one's images pop up. Only everyone is in pure shock, none more than Ian, when an image of him appears saying "R.I.P Ian Beale!" Honey states that no one put that image in the slideshow, suddenly Ian becomes aware of everyone around him and realises that the person who attacked him is close. I loved this moment when as the choir carried on singing, every single suspect, slowly looked over to Ian to see his reaction - Bobby, Ben, Kheerat, Suki, Peter, Phil - it is absolutely mesmerising, fantastic editing and camera work! Absolutely loved it!

And then we come to the banger, THE BIG ONE! The Christmas Day episode!! Wow, wow, wow! Another jam packed one right?! There are 3 or 4 main things I want to cover in this one! First one being the big return of Lucas Johnson and his daughter Chelsea!!! This has been such a long time coming and what an epic return it was!!! I do feel sorry for Denise however, as obviously her plans for a traditional Christmas did not go to plan. Even though she took Raymond to his church, she was left absolutely stunned and shook with fear as Lucas appeared (once again) as a supposed changed man!! But what shocked her Christmas Day even more was learning that her daughter, Chelsea, had been seeing him, spending time with him and had been doing so for a few months behind her Mother's back. This deeply saddened Denise, and it understandably made the whole family on edge as they heard the news about Lucas returning! Even Patrick took it upon himself to confront the murderer. We can absolutely see instantly that Lucas hasn't changed his ways, clasping his fist whilst being confronted by Patrick, and then also approaching Ruby as she walks along the Square, alone! I know it's way too early to say, but has Lucas already spotted his next victim?!
The next thing I want to mention is the Slater's - it looks as if it's a happy Christmas for the Slater family, even though Kat has her concerns that it could be Kush's last Christmas, they take full pleasure in enjoying presents, food and drinks! Even though Martin and Ruby plan to spend their first Christmas at home as a newly-married couple, they get dragged into spending their day with the Slater's. Before Ruby arrives at the household, Martin has already given out his presents and it turns out the one he gave to Stacey is a beautiful sparkling watch, as she's overwhelmed by the gift, we can see absolutely clearly that that gift wasn't in fact intended for her, however it's only later on after having drinks in the Vic with the family, poor Stacey gets completely the wrong end of the stick and kisses her ex-husband, informing him that she still feels the same way about him and they could work things out, only for him to sadly drop the bombshell that he accidentally mixed up the presents and in fact the watch was meant for Ruby and the keyring Ruby opened was for Stacey. However, the one thing that none of the Slaters are aware of, is that privately after buying herself a gorgeous new dress, Jean devastatingly finds a new lump. Does this mean that her cancer could've come back? What an absolutely heart-breaking thing to find out on Christmas!
Following the devastating blow between Mick and Linda on Christmas Eve, Mick decides that they shouldn't pretend anymore and have Ollie separately on Christmas Day. This clearly upsets Linda as Mick walks away with his son. Much to Shirley's surprise, Tina has invited Mick and his son over to Gray's for Christmas dinner, Shirley is absolutely over the moon when she sees her son and Grandson appear on the doorstep. When everyone is sat around at the table, Tina and Shirley voice their thanks to Gray as he carves the Christmas turkey. Tina happily passes a gift to Mick which is revealed to be a picture of him, Katy and Tina as kids - this seems to really spook Mick but he thanks his baby sister all the same, however Shirley can see that her son isn't looking right, she urges for them to inform her what's the problem. Only instead of informing her about Katy, Mick informs her about Linda having an affair with Max. Furious, Shirley takes it upon herself to confront her daughter-in-law and is stunned when Mick follows announcing that she doesn't mean anything to him anymore. These words look as if they really hurt Linda, to her, it seems that her marriage has completely come to an end, she turns to Max and mentions that she could consider going away with him to New Zealand.
Later on in the evening, after having altercations with Gray through-out the day, Tina decides to make it up to him and clear the dinner table and put all the cutlery away in the dishwasher, however in the most creepiest way, Gray informs her that she's put the cutlery in the wrong way, that the knives should in fact go blade-up! He watches her and it almost looks as if he's imagining doing to her what he did to Chantelle! I do fear for Tina, could she find out his secret and be his next victim?
And Oh my god!!! The big one, the big reveal we've been waiting for! Early on in the episode, we can see that Ian is still completely on edge of countless death threats, he looks out of the Queen Vic window and sees his brother, Ben, playing with his daughter Lexi. Ben notices and makes a gun motion with his fingers towards his brother. Instantly this plays on Ian's mind and eventually he confronts him in the middle of the Square, when suddenly the police turn up and it looks as if they're hear to collect Ben, however much to everyone's surprise, they're actually there for Peter after it's revealed his DNA was found. To Ian's surprise he asks his son "Why?" to which he responds with "I enjoyed watching you squirm!". Earlier in the episode Sharon announces to her new husband that she's going to visit Denny's grave, during their drive up to the cemetery, Ian is talking about nothing but himself and how Peter could betray him. She doesn't look a bit interested in her husband's rant and in forms him to go back to the pub. Ian does as he's told and whilst Sharon stands by her boy's gravestone, she makes a call to Phil. At first we have no idea why she's calling him, but eventually it all comes clear - when he eventually makes it to the cemetery, she informs him that she wants Ian dead today!!! WHAT DID I SAY FROM THE BEGINNING?! I KNEW SHARON WAS BEHIND IAN'S ATTACK!!! It turns out that for months they've been waiting on hearing Dennis's voicemail and it looks as if the blonde vixen is out for revenge and justice for her son! A flashback shows us that it was actually Phil who attacked Ian that night but before he could finish the job, he was interrupted by Peter spray-painting on the doors and made his escape. It looks as if Ben missed his Dad by seconds as he walks over Ian's motionless body and voices that he had it coming! It looks as if Phil and Sharon had been planning this for months possibly, however when she informs Phil to go back and finish the job today, when Phil gets to the pub he finds Ben standing over Ian with a baseball bat and he comes to realise that he can't go through with it. If Ian's blood gets on his hands, it'll come back to his family - annoying as Ian is, he can't kill a member of his family, especially when it's his son's brother. When Sharon comes home to see that Ian is still alive, she confronts Phil and is devastated when he announces that he wants out of their plan to kill Ian, he voices that she's grieving and needs professional help to come to terms with her grief. But instead, Sharon calls him a coward and informs him she'll do it herself. As everyone goes home and everyone is with their families, Sharon is seen in the Queen Vic kitchen, crushing small pills, she melts them with a blowtorch, places them into a Christmas Pudding and serves them to Ian! After all the suspects that were listed, I had a VERY big feeling that Sharon would be the one behind Ian's attack! As much as I'd love to know how she got hold of the voicemail from Denny, I am certainly looking forward to seeing when Ian realises it's his new wife who's trying to kill him! Another fantastic Christmas episode!
--
Finally coming to the final episode of this week, Boxing Day! Oh my goodness, this one had me on the edge of my seat and shaking!!! I'm sure you're all aware of what's got me shaking to the core!! That will be the thing I focus on last! Firstly, I'm going to focus on Sharon and Ian. After the previous day, Phil and Sharon bump into each other outside of the Vic, neither of them say a word to each other as they both have a silent knowledge of what's going on, it looks as if Phil is questioning her with his eyes, only his question is answered when Ian appears from the top bedroom window, shouting down to his wife. With the comfort of knowing that Sharon hasn't gone through with her plan, Phil walks way. Only little does he know that she's actually poisoning him! Later on in the episode, Sharon convinces Ian to show his face and step outside, even though he is reluctant to do so, and it just so happens that the first people he sees are his Mum and his son, Peter. Peter reveals to him that he's been released by police with no charges, leaving everyone completely by surprise. So that puts Peter out of the frame!
Meanwhile, after Denise's huge shock at seeing Lucas the previous day, she and Kim take Raymond to the park for a kick about for a bit of space. Innocently, Ruby approaches the little boy and compliments his Christmas jumper, but it seems as if recent events have spooked Denise, as she calls the little boy to stay close to her. As she walks away with the little boy, it looks as if Ruby is feeling an emotion that she's never felt before. Later on when she and Martin meet up at the Vic, he apologies for the way they spent their first Christmas. However, something even more interesting is on Ruby's mind, she questions her husband whether he has the feeling that something in his life is missing, but when he simply can't think of anything and announces he has everything he wants, she drops the bombshell that she wants them to have a child of their own.
So the last and big section I need to talk about involves Gray and all members of the Carter family! The first thing I'll mention is the brief scene between Linda and Mick, as it comes to dawn on them that their marriage is coming to an end, Linda reveals to her husband that they should discuss new arrangements when it comes to Ollie, when each of them get to see him etc. Deep down you can see it's visibly hurting both of them that it's come to this, but what else are they supposed to do? Mick won't talk and Linda truly believes that her husband has lost complete interest and doesn't want her anymore. As Linda leaves with Ollie, Mick feels like he needs someone, of course his first person to contact is Katy. When she eventually returns to the Square, once again she starts to manipulate Mick, trying to convince him that moving away would be the best thing for him, pointing out that his marriage to Linda is over, what is keeping him in Walford? The fact that he does actually still love his wife and his family and his little boy!! Meanwhile whilst all this is happening with Mick, Gray is reeling after Tina let it slip in front of his children that Chantelle was planning on leaving him. This has left him out for revenge on Tina! Even Mitch has started questioning whether what Tina has said is true, which is clearly going to rattle Gray's cage, he points the blame straight onto Tina for his children not wanting to see him, to which she repeatedly apologises for. However, he seems to think that she has completely crossed the line. When he bumps into the Detective who's working the case of the attack on Ian, he reveals that Peter has been released without charge and also the witness they gave wasn't reliable and that Tina's case probably won't make it to court. Gray goes back and completely twists his words and informs Tina that she has to leave the Square today as the evidence against her is building and building! To their absolute shock, both Shirley and Tina begin to panic, Mick hears the commotion and questions what's happening, as Gray reveals that the police could be coming for Tina at any moment and she needs to leave quick, he proposes that he leaves the Square with her. Taking Katy's advice, he seems to realise that this could be his way out of Walford! Shirley is in absolute tears as she comes to the realisation that both her sister and her son could be leaving so suddenly. As Mick hurries home to grab his belongings, Tina informs Gray that she'll forever be thankful to him and will find a way to repay him, as he begins to make plans in booking a plane flight for them. Before Tina goes to grab her belongings, Shirley stops to give her a late Christmas present - which I have a huge feeling could be VERY important - a golden chain with her name on, Tina is weepy as she thanks her sister and tells her she'll miss her. As Shirley bids her sister farewell, I have a devastating, horrible feeling that this may be the last time Shirley will see Tina alive?! Later on as Tina rushes to grab her last few items from the shop, she bumps into the Detective and states that the witness they have for her is a liar, however he drops the bombshell about her witness being unreliable and that Gray should've told her, it becomes clear to Tina that Gray has been lying to her. As she arrives back at the house, Gray is finishing packing her things, it appears to be just the two of them in the house. Everything comes crystal clear to Tina that Gray wants her out of his house and out of Walford - I thought this was such an epic, gripping scene! I was fearing for Tina the entire time!! She confronts him about his lies and even comes to the realisation that the way he's treated her is exactly the way he treated Chantelle. Gray is absolutely stunned to realise that she is on to him and she has come to know the truth about how his wife died, she threatens him that she's been watching him and she knows exactly the type of person he his! But as soon as she mentions Chantelle, about the way he treated her and abused her, you can see Gray getting angrier and angrier, denying all allegations that Tina is throwing at him! I did feel that Tina was so brave to stand up to him, but I am fearing that this could be the last time we see Tina alive? She says those very important words - "You killed her! You murdered your wife!" and you can see it clear as day that Gray knows he's going to have to get rid of her before she reveals his secret.
I have to be honest but this episode has fantastic performances from Toby-Alexander Smith and Luisa Bradshaw-White! Are you guys fearing for Tina as much as I am?! I do feel that the gold chain with Tina's name on is going to be very significant! Will Gray murder Tina, get rid of her body and convince Shirley that Tina has actually fled, without Mick and left her chain behind?! Who knows? Either way, I don't know how Tina is going to escape the wrath of Gray now she's aware of his secret. What do you guys think? Did you enjoy the Christmas episodes as much as I did? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thank you for reading, I apologise it's taken so long, but I hope you enjoy this post as much as I've enjoying writing! I'll be back tomorrow following tomorrow's episode - what will happen to Tina?! Love you all xXx

Music reconnected Trannilish and Ms. Boogie after life took the rappers in different directions. "We've been day zero sisters," says Trannilish (Lish for short). "Like way back before transitioning." In August, Lish hopped on Boogie's fiery track, ‘FEM QUEEN,’ and now Boogie's lending her signature purrr's to Lish's ‘Bounce,’ out now. "Collaborating with Trannilish has been the most fun part of my career, to be honest," adds Boogie — a strong statement, considering her own rolodex of underground hits. "We have a great time in the studio, and just let our hair down to create and feed off each other's vibes. "On ‘Bounce,’ Lish and Boogie offer up an absolutely menacing track with a hook that demands its own viral dance challenge. "I get the cash and then I bounce," Boogie raps, describing the song as a "celebration of everyone getting money." For Lish, ‘Bounce’ symbolizes "moving on" from anything that no longer fulfills you. This empowering message is laced with humor, featuring one choice lyric, "I'm swinging from his pubic hairs like Donkey Kong." According to Lish, "Making people laugh is super important to us." The ‘Bounce’ music video, brings their Jhevere Reynolds-produced track to life. Lish says the original plan was "to shoot a really big video, but then COVID started getting out of control." Instead, they came up with a virtual idea, depicting themselves as CGI video vixens driving convertibles and dancing together in sexy sports jerseys. Boogie says they reached out to Linya Lanvin and Jai Valentino, who helped bring their "'fem queen' Barbie dream house and basketball court to life." [via PAPER]

We’ve been sleeping on Malyangapa/Barkindji artist Barkaa, but thanks to her new single ‘Groovy’, that’s absolutely changed. This one dropped at the end of December 2020, but came across our radar this week so it definitely had to be included thanks to its powerful message and just how fun it is to listen to. Out via Bad Apples, ‘Groovy’ is also dedicated to Barkaa‘s mother and sees Barkaa rap in both English and Barkindji. She’s one to watch, and we are now firmly on board! [via Purple Sneakers]
Haviah Mighty celebrates the power of being alone on ‘Antisocial’, her new song with Old Man Saxon. After dropping her debut album 13th Floor and winning Canada’s 2019 Polaris Prize — becoming both the first Black woman and first hip-hop artist to accomplish this feat — Ms. Mighty has seemingly found another gear. “This ain’t a twosome or a threesome or a foursome,” she sings, “This that I’m a do it on my motherfuckin’ lonesome.” The track, co-produced by Haviah Mighty and Devontée, starts with a scattered synth riff that suddenly pops into the groove when the beat drops. Old Man Saxon adds new textures to the song with a hickory-smoked flow. “Oh you rollin’ on your own that’s a big bet,” he raps, “You want me forever but I am more of a vignette.” In a statement, Mighty spoke about our “emotions of self-confidence,’ explaining, “I remember listening to the beat months ago, feeling really energized by the hard cuts and bouncy percussion. That energy within was bottled up as I sat on my bed, hanging out alone, socially distancing — something I spent a lot of time doing around the time I wrote this song. As I got comfortable and familiar with being alone, I focused on self-help and self-care. As someone who generally only felt comfortable on the go in the messy hustle and bustle that is life, this time of slowing down to better get to know me was important. This song focuses on those emotions of self-confidence that we feel inside, the desire to be alone, the desire to sit with one’s thoughts, and to validate oneself.” [via Consequence of Sound]
Alternative hip-hop artist and producer Amber Ryann’s latest release, ‘ALONE’ is an atmospheric listen merging rap, electronic, and R&B with an effortless pop style. The accompanying music video showcases the artist’s unique style with varying backdrops and movements. After releasing multiple singles last year, Ryann has surpassed a million streams collectively and plans to release more music monthly. ‘ALONE’ is a melting pot of sounds and synths. While Ryann delivers structured bars along with some vocalized verses, her style is reminiscent of '90s grunge. Her demeanor boasts a nonchalant confidence, unafraid to step outside of the box. The mellow trap beat starts off with heavy bass and ends with a softer melody. The rapper also begins with faster verses and slowly ends with a harmonized chorus, “I can’t be alone.” Ryann’s style is the definition of alternative hip hop. [via Earmilk]

To kick off 2021, burgeoning Alabama rapper, Flo Milli returns with her new single ‘Roaring 20s.’ Produced by Kenny Beats and including a sample of ‘If I Were A Rich Man’ from the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Fiddler on the Roof, the single continues to show Flo’s boisterous personality. The song inspires the next wave of Flo Milli as she paves her own way, redefining this centuries’ 20’s and continuing with messages of female empowerment as heard in the song’s lyrics. On the release and this next phase, Flo Milli shares: “The ‘Roaring 20s’ was a period in history of dramatic social and political change. Last year I was able to break through during a very difficult time for not only our country but, the world. Born in 2000, and having my breakout year in 2020, I feel like I’m living in the new age of the ‘Roaring 20s’. One of the most familiar symbols of the ‘Roaring 20s’ was the birth of the new independent woman, known in those years as a flapper. A flapper is a young woman; unbothered by conventional standards of behavior. In addition to being more sexually free than previous generations, the women of the Roaring 20s had the bobbed hair, the short skirts, the drankin’, the smokin’, looks and participated in activities that were deemed ‘unladylike’. My lyrics, my style and my lifestyle all resonate with that freedom and I AM the ‘Roaring 20s’.”

Coraline, I miss you.
You know what's funny,
This is the first time, in a long time,
Where I actually didn't cry by the end of our story.
Like I was shocked for a moment, like:
"Why do I feel ok?"
"Why am I not angry or sad?"
"Or ready to toss myself out of a window?"
It’s because we've already died once. I've accepted this death.
My soul has felt like this, twice maybe nearly three times....ok maybe 16 if you’re including childhood. Heartbreak don't phase me no more. It’s required when falling in love with someone like you. Someone who has ripped through people so many times as the same had been done to you as a child.
But Jesus rose again each time.
He has gotten me through every hell hole with you.
I shall fear no evil.
No longer do I fear the love in my heart for you either.
I dont have to do anything. I dont have to say anything.
I can just be here, chilling, living my life, as I should.
Helping myself to a pack of gummy worms
That I forgot was on the floor.
And there’s nothing you can do about it.
Im not choosing to be bitter.
Im not choosing to be scared that my ex lovers might kidnap me, kill me, or break my heart again in the future.
(I might have these thoughts in the back of my head...)
But for what? Because of the past?
I know who they are and I know my God.
"God is bigger than the boogie man"
He will protect me from Peter Pan, Captain Hook, and his crew of theives.
Im not crying in pain anymore.
My wounds are sealed.
It’s finally been done.
Even though im still in love with you, yet left me with none in return.
I know you still burn a secret torch for me.
And you’ll probably be the last to know as you still say to yourself “its just lust”
But i did the same thing, holding myself back because I thought it was just lust and look at where it got me.
Stuck playing with you, and sipping vodka at pity parties whenever you or she called it quits.
And I'll probably be there once they realizes how to escape from the prism of prisons that they (one person; my ftm) had forced themselves into to survive their childhood:
1st- their insecurity and battle of mind
2nd- their complex view on sex, marriage, and commitment
And finally 3rd; childhood trauma.
Jay you gotta heal from your mother and your father's wounds that they gave you. Emotionally and physically.
Because the scars that you bare now, can pass on to your children if you don't grieve properly.
Showing emotion is not weak. Yes, you are going to be vulnerable. But it takes strength to show where your wounds are to somebody that you trust.
I'm sorry I lied about my involvement with Calvin to try and make you feel jealous. We're just work buddies, nothing more. It was to get back at you for making me feel jealous on purpose in Franken----, I had a feeling that you were doing it for attention from me and her, because you wanted to see how I would react. So instead, that day (and the day at the target/mall) I gave you the cold shoulder and ignored you every time you attempted to get a reaction out of me. Because I knew you were being sly and sadistic to me, you felt a dry spell between us and wanted to know if I was being mischievous or did I actually stop being interested in you?
I know its confusing, because by this point usually you would say something argumentative like "well, how do you know all that?"
And then I would say, "Clearly, its simple. I know you. Jay-Jaiden-Jocelyn. Because clearly you operate on entirely different plane of view than I. You think like 3-4 different people at a time, and that my friend sounds exhausting.
That repepetive pounding in your head is from, your father still infiltrating your mind. The one who abused you the most.
I saw this that night we got into it at your apartment. You got in my face, poked me in my chest as you said "Now you have to make the asshole."
You made the energy in the room feel cold. And I knew it wasn't you.
It was your father. You became your father's energy. You replicated that.
Because your body remembers.
You, Jay, might not remember.
But the other people in line for your spot in your mind do,
Remembers all too well. They keep your secrets safe within you.
Once the council figured out that I knew,
they got scared and tormented me for it.
Na, knows it too.
She's playing mind games on you.
But you can't see it physically.
I couldn't see it either at first.
Until I got home everytime and reflected back at what happened
In reverse.
Everything is inverted.
This whole time I thought it was you that was evil.
But its really been her.
She's been using your mind against you.
All because of cheating on her with other people over the years. It hurt her deeply. She grew numb, cold, and distant. That’s why she wants another. Because you were always looking outside from her to seek pleasure and attention.
She used to be serving, and submissive to you, but now she’s outsmarted you. She knows that you will always play outside, so she gave you a leash. Thus, a leash for herself to gift you, so she could seek her benefits elsewhere too.
She said she always felt like she needed to take care of someone or something to feel better. I think you’re still in delusion about everything staying together with her.
She said she was gonna ask me to move in with y'all! Of course I was next to have a leash. I was her next project to take care of.
I needed to get out of there. Before she had me hip to her bosom just like you.
A girl with mommy issues.
I was next on her guest list.
She knows the key is to my heart. And the only way to get instant access is my...... “peaches.” SHE WANTED EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO MA’ PEACHES!
OF COURSE I RANN!
And I’m glad I did. Cause’ then you and I would have been stuck on that boat for awhile. Like her two light skinned boyfriend/girlfriends.
I know it sounds like I have commitment issues, but tbh she was way too controlling of a girlfriend to begin with. And I see why, but still...
I know it might take awhile before you actually find this.
But please know, my intention was to help you.
But at least I found out before its too late.
That I can't.
You can't save someone who doesn’t see anything wrong with their environment. I can see you’re both hurting, but I have to let you both learn what's been going on on your own.
Only you can break down the walls that your mind built yourself within.
That damn rabbit hole. I didn’t want you to fall in.
But I can see now that you already did.
And I accept that I’ve lost you. My best friend.
But you’ll come back when you are ready.
But I can't say that I’ll be the same person by the time you come back.
Because we always do.
I love them, and thats it, thats the end of it.
And I finally know its alright to feel peace
After I’ve already done all that I could.
What happened. Happened. And its up to me now to carry my own weight and pack my saddlebag for my next adventure
-✈️You’re looking at your new Flight Attendant.
P.S. I’m earning my badges as I go. And Tumblr, I’m just venting while my therapist is on my vacation and I’m waiting to come out to my parents until I move to have a decent, stable home in New York or Connecticut somewhere...wherever...damn...imma be 25 next year wtf

G1 Climax 30 Night 3 - 9/23/2020; RIP Road Warrior Animal (9/12/1960 - 9/23/2020); Finlay v. Romero in ROH Pure Tournament; Fredericks on Last Night’s Prime Time Live
Tumblr media
G1 Climax 30 resumed today, with A Block matches live from Hokkaido. You can see it now on NJPWWorld.
- 9/23/2020, Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kitayell
Gabriel Kidd d. Yuya Uemura (Double-Arm Suplex, 7:21)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Jeff Cobb [FREE] d. Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables] (Tour Of The Islands, 11:44)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] d. Yujiro Takahashi [Bullet Club] (Money Clip, 12:01)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Taichi [SZKG] d. Minoru Suzuki [SZKG] (Black Mephisto, 12:11)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Will Ospreay [CHAOS] d. Tomohiro Ishii [CHAOS] (Stormbreaker, 18:20)
G1 Climax 30 A Block: Jay White [Bullet Club] d. Kota Ibushi (Blade Runner, 20:28)
Switchblade is now 2-0 against Kota Ibushi since Ibushi bested him at the G1 Climax 29 Final last year. Naturally, he declared he will win G1. And he might! Ospreay will not win G1, but is on a streak anyway, because NJPW are high on him and don’t care if he got a woman blackballed from the industry.
Taichi had a very good homecoming to Hokkaido for once, getting the win over his Boss. NJPW are now calling Okada’s Cobra Clutch the “Money Clip.” And still trying to make it a Thing. Shingo is 0-2 so far, but that means he’ll be assured a good late run. Gabriel Kidd gets his first ever singles win in NJPW!
Current A Block standings:
Ospreay: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) Taichi: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) White: 4pts (2W 0D 0L) Cobb: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Ibushi: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Okada: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Suzuki: 2pts (1W 0D 1L) Ishii: 0pts (0W 0D 2L) Takagi: 0pts (0W 0D 2L) Yujiro: 0pts (0W 0D 2L)

(L-R: Road Warrior Hawk [Michael Hegstrand], Road Warrior Animal [Joseph Laurinaitis], Power Warrior [Kensuke Sasaki])
Just as I was getting ready to start writing this post, it was reported that Road Warrior Animal (Joseph Laurinaitis) had passed away at the age of 60. The Road Warriors are, of course, one of the most famous and well-regarded tag teams of all time in the wrestling business, and Japan were a huge part of their stomping grounds, although in terms of number of matches, they were more known in All Japan Pro Wrestling than NJPW. The majority of Animal’s matches in NJPW came in 1996, when the Road Warriors were still with WCW, and some of those were in tandem with Kensuke Sasaki in his Power Warrior persona (long story). Nevertheless, the Road Warriors were huge in Japan, working in AJPW, NJPW, Tenryu’s WAR promotion, and even Riki Choshu’s ill-fated Fighting of World Japan Pro Wrestling company in 2003. (Road Warrior Hawk, Michael Hegstrand, would die later in 2003.) Animal even wrestled a select number of matches in Battlarts in 1998 and 2000.
Animal’s brother John is pretty well-known in the wrestling biz, having not only been an executive, both on-screen and off-, for WWE, but also as Johnny Ace, most notably in AJPW, where at one time he had a very well-regarded tag team with Kenta Kobashi, among others. His son James played college football at Ohio State University, as well as an 8-year NFL career, mostly at the then-St. Louis Rams, before retiring after a season at the New Orleans Saints in 2017.
Regardless, there’s nothing I can write that will adequately say what Animal, and the Road Warriors, meant to pro wrestling. Our thoughts and condolences to his loved ones and close friends.
Tumblr media
While left out of G1 Climax selection yet again, David Finlay Jr. is keeping himself busy, competing in Ring of Honor’s Pure Tournament. This is the revival of ROH’s former Pure Championship, which was unified and abandoned with the ROH World Title back in 2008 in a classic (but ultimately costly, for the competitors involved) match between Brian Danielson v. Nigel McGuinness.
Finlay’s opponent for this round was Rocky Romero, who he would defeat. This match is on the current episode of ROH TV, but I’m not even sure which Sinclair Broadcasting sub-network it’s on nowadays (Comet? Charge!? It’s not on YouTube in full). We’ll see how far he gets in this. I can’t imagine he’s happy working ROH again tho.
In other news, the LA Dojo’s Karl Fredericks appeared last night on the United Wrestling Network’s iPPV event Prime Time Live #2, shown on FITE TV for $7.99. This concept is through United Wrestling Network, Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance and Thunder Studios, being run out of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, a weekly PPV concept. I hesitate to remind that this is how TNA/Impact started.
Fredericks defeated Slice Boogie in the semi-main event of the show. Danny Limelight, late of NJPW Strong, was also on this show, losing to Kevin Martenson. The main event saw Thunder Rosa retain the NWA Women’s Championship against Priscilla Kelly, which is good as it maintains the storyline Rosa is having in AEW right now.
Tomorrow’s show also comes from Hokkaido, and features the second group of B Block matches, including one that may have some implications down the line depending on how the results go.
- 9/24/2020, Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center Hokkai Kitayell
Yota Tsuji v. Yuya Uemura
G1 Climax 30 B Block: Hirooki Goto [CHAOS] v. SANADA [Los Ingobernables]
G1 Climax 30 B Block: Hiroshi Tanahashi v. Toru Yano [CHAOS]
G1 Climax 30 B Block: Juice Robinson v. KENTA [Bullet Club]
G1 Climax 30 B Block: YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] v. EVIL [Bullet Club]
G1 Climax 30 B Block: Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] v. Zack Sabre Jr. [SZKG]

ADRIAN WATANABE, 5'12.
Adrian Watanabe is 24 years old, he was born on September 5th, of 1994, virgo. He’s born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Goyang, South Korea. He is Korean-Japanese, Adrian’s personality can be a mix sometimes but he is sweet but isn’t afriad to be a smartmouth. He is very caring, even though he hates to admit that he is. At times he could get abit kinky, can get abit jealous if in a certain situation. He is very dedicated to whatever/anything that he loves or sets his mind to, even if he’s an axshole at times, he’ll 100% always say sorry. can be sweet with words most times.
When Adrian was little he was always the center of attention, he was known as the wealthy son his whole life. His dad the highest paid docter in Korea, His Mother the biggest known Attorney. He was constantly always being used as an example for students and kids to look up to, he was perfect in their eyes. it got to the point where on the daily his parents would be so hard on him that it made Adrian drift off from reality, he hated that kids would think he was perfect and that he never made mistakes because the truth was all he ever did was make mistakes. He wanted them to see the real Adrian not some font he would put up for his parents sake. He thought that if only they knew the real him, everyone would turn their backs on him, he just couldn’t let anyone know what actually happens behind the scenes. The true Adrian was hanging with the wrong crowd, he would drink, get high, even get in fights with people he didn’t even know. He would come home drunk with a busted lip, his dad would always yell at him “Where have you been!? i’ve told you to stop hanging with those kids! get your shxt together Ian! i swear you’ll be on the streets if you don’t quit this type of behavior now!!” he slapped his son on the same cheek he would always slap, Adrian scoffed as he would rub the same red spot on his cheek his dad slapped him. He just stared at his dad with glaring eyes as he spoke up like always,“Crazy Bastard.” as he walked to his room, not forgetting to slam the door behind him. times like this his step-mother would always be the one to calm his father, he never cared about what they thought. He never had a good relationship with his dad ever since he can remember, they never even once said I love you to each other. In moments like this Adrian would silently rap his pain away, “i don’t wanna hear any hopeful words, why is everyone making it a big deal when i’m fine? My breakup was a bit tough, left me with a small scratch. i know it’s gonna be way better after a day or two. Silence means “please be happy.” tears mean “i truly loved you.” i won’t die just because they left me, so please don’t look at me as if you’re looking at someone that’s dying.“ he sigh, letting it all out like he did every single night. He only got good grades and acted good for his mother since he made her that promise, but it wasn’t who he was and he hoped she saw that. Eventually that same night, Adrian packed up as much as possible and left home, he didn’t even leave a note behind. He walked alone that whole night wondering if he should stay or leave, but he knew he made the right choice.
He did end up getting a small apartment with the small amount of money he had saved up, as days went by he finally was able to be himself little by little, even though it hurt him to know his father never bothered to look for him. Adrian started to create music of his own, slowly starting to gain more money to be able to get more studio supplies. Slowly, enough Adrian started to distance himself from problems as well as the people he called friends, as he started new. Adrian soon became a very well known rapper/music producer throughout the music industry, he was in a very happy stage in his life but that doesn’t mean he won’t experience a low in life because he will eventually but he didn’t care about that because he wanted to live in the moment and that’s what he was doing.
 Traits: Music, Good, Virgo, Confident
"Adrian. but you can call me Ian, i will do stupid shxt like most of the times but i’ll try and make up for it because to me you’re my muse. So let’s just live in the moment”
 Playlist:
Chris Brown Ft. Drake - No Guidance
Loco Ft. Jay Park - Thinking about You
Boogie wit da hoodie - look back at it
Khalid - Better
IKON - Apology
Adrian submitted by Binnie anon, thank you so much!!!!!!! 💜💜💜

Some more writing, set during and immediately after the boogie kill :< this one has two endings because SOMEONE (@evenmoreevil ) was indecisive
@happy-hermit @melouthechalk
It wasn't going to last forever.
Zera would've been delusional if they had thought it was. Them and their bluejay, against the world? Ha. They couldn't even save themselves from falling into lava. They couldn't even protect themselves from the Watchers who kept a tight grip over their very life. Their heart, which beat erratically in their chest, was a clear statement of what they risked with every teleport and every use of their magic.
And yet... and yet...
There was something off about Melou. About the magic that warped around the blue life and seemed to corrupt their very being. It was powerful, so much so that Zera could see it without even having to open their other eyes. It didn't look like anyone else could, though, judging by the ease in which the lads welcomed the cursed individual into their home.
It made them panic when Jay got closer, their cries as Melou drew their bow going unnoticed by the blue name. Zera frantically drew their own bow, finding they were out of arrows anyway. Going to draw their sword, Zera didn't notice that Melou aimed the bow towards them, and then-
Thunk.
The arrow buried itself in Zera's side, and they screamed Jay's name as they fell, pain shooting through their body as they yanked the arrow out in a panic, watching as glistening gold blood stained the ground. They were only able to stare at it for a moment before they realized Jay, Jay was getting attacked by Melou.
With a cry, Zera ran after Melou and Jay, drawing their sword and pushing themselves to go as fast as they could, their legs aching and threatening dislocation. "No! No, Jay, run!" Zera shouted, "go, go, please-!"
Something slammed into them from behind, and Zera tumbled to the stone, their blood staining their clothes as they were pinned down on their back by Moth, who smiled down at them with a sick sort of glee. "Sorry, but Melou's our ally."
"No!" Zera's cry tore from their throat, tears hot and desperate pouring down their face. "No, no, please, Jay! Jay, run! Jay!" Their breaths came in panicked desperation as their heart beat erratically, faster and faster and they were seeing stars in Moth's blue eyes that were the blue of the sky and the seas and they were the same blue as Jay's and Jay was running Jay was running Jay was dying-
Jay was slain by Melou.
Zera's scream rang with aching grief, and they desperately fought to stand as they wailed Jay's name- or something that was meant to be Jay's name, as the cry was choked off by a sob as they devolved into a full on panic attack, clinging onto the only other person who was near in a desperate search for something to ground them. "No! No, no, no! Jay! No!"
Ending part one!
With a snort, Moth pushed them away and stepped back. "Come on, Zera. She's just on green now. It's not like she's dead. Get a hold of yourself."
Those words didn't even reach the teen, who desperately gripped their own hair and tugged as they began to rock, crying in pain and grief as their blood, golden and glistening, continued to seep from their wound.
Zera was left with their grief and their failures, alone on the mountain.
Ending part two!
To their surprise, gentle arms wrapped around them, pulling them close. "Shh. Shh, it's alright. Deep breaths, okay? Count with me. One, two, three... out, two three..." Moth took a deep breath, his exhale blowing soft and warm against Zera's hair. They followed suit, wings wrapping around them both as their arms wrapped around Moth's neck. They sobbed softly, burying their face against Moth's chest. "Good. Good. I'm proud of you. Can you take some more for me?"
Zera only weakly sobbed, nodding slightly as they tried to inhale deeply again. Their breath cut out into a wet sob of pain and grief, the feeling of their blood sticky against their clothing. "Jay... Jay died... why? Why didn't you let me die? Why didn't you kill me?" they sobbed, and Moth gently rubbed their back below their wings in a soothing motion.
"I want to kill you myself, sugar. And besides, Jay's on blue." His voice was soft, comforting, as if he weren't explaining something so horrible. "Killing you would've put you on yellow."
Zera just sobbed harder, tears clinging to their eyelashes. "No..."

Victorious! When you speak it, the universe hears you. You're not supposed to think small, you're supposed to think Biggie, dummy. It’s mos’ def fabulous when a cat with the same as hue as you get that sauce money. I can’t even be shock, G—how can I even? It ain’t odd when the big homie been bent on beating the odds.
C’mon, son. How many times did Jay-Z say it? Huh? Now listen, I don’t have nothin’ against the Boogie Down—I got love for everything New York, so big ups to the Gods, for they created this game. But when they say Brooklyn keeps on taking it, they mean Brooklyn keeps on taking it! From the dedicated d-boy that went from slangin’ rocks, it was inevitable that number one would be the one that was the head of the Roc. HOV! Yeah, I can’t be surprised, but I can and will be super psyched!
Tumblr media
“ Ayo, my bad, B, but hold up, hold up! ” I said excitably, resting a hand over Judge’s chest to stop him in the middle of his rap and gaining the attention of my entire class. I promise I’m a good listener, ya’ll but the alert I just got on my phone took absolute precedence over what my friend and roommate was talking about. It was honestly appropriate that it did because Judge was over here chattin’ about Lord Jamar’s gripe about Eminem being a culture vulture during his interview with VladTV and finding it whack that Lord Jamar thinks white privilege is what got Em this far in the rap game. In the back of my mind, I felt that however people may feel about that subject is their feelings and I’ll respect it. But the bigger picture history just painted us is black facts that can never be compromised and Em pales in comparison.
It went without saying but I’ll say it: I was a volcanic, bubbling mess on the inside and I knew I was about to be as loud as the whole Puerto Rican side of mi familia on a good day, but to hell with it! “ It’s official, people! It’s just been announced that Jay-Z is the first Hip-Hop artist to become a billionaire! Brooklyn, BOY! WE IN HERE! ” When you know, you know—now it was the turn of Judge and the rest of the BK natives’ in the vicinity to turn up. They became louder than a gang of ratchets clappin’ at graduation and the tour guide and security didn’t bother to calm them down. It was a moment for everyone to relish in.
Y'all may think we’re acting up just for the sake of acting up. Outsiders may not understand what the hype is all about but they should. I’ll tell anyone that should know the know: we’re celebrating because it’s amazing that a black kid that was once out there in the streets of Brooklyn, surviving by the mechanics of the underworld, transformed himself into Hip-Hop’s first successful black billionaire. Jay-Z been a charismatic idol from these parts, and now one can never say he’s not the embodiment of the black dream and the AmeriKKKan nightmare. We’re not all born with a silver spoon in our mouths, we have to get out there and do the dang thing. Jay’s legacy will forever instill hope into the youth and the older heads that are still out there struggling under the weight of the streets. I know it is for me.
I hope ya’ll get where I’m coming from now. I let the energy accumulate as I soldiered my way through the tight crowd to get to the head of the line, so I can shoot the tour guide a giddy smile and say, “ Sorry I didn’t let you finish, ma’am, but I think you should talk to somebody soon about updating the Museum’s info on Sean Corey Carter. ” She looked down at me with a smile that was enhancing her crow’s feet ( fun thought: I didn’t notice it before, but she looked like she could be Morgan Freeman’s sister. Don’t get me wrong, thinking this didn’t distract from the fact she was a beautiful brown-skinned elder who has been presenting a wealth of knowledge since the start of this school trip. I may have to get with her after and talk to her about more things Brooklyn ). The tour guide nodded in agreement and got started on trying to calm down the teens, leaving me with the task of going back into the thick of my group, attempting to find Alicia at the end of it. It didn’t take long, she was standing right where I left her.
“ Hey, so I was thinking, right? ” I started, my head lit up with mad good ideas. “ I’m inspired to throw something up after this is done with. You wanna come with me to Marcy Projects, mami? ”

Lost Revenge Crew Headcanons
The whole crew of the Lost Revenge, including the Tide Trio, are in one large poly platonic relationship. They will form pairs or units that move beyond platonic, but that doesn't change feelings for anyone else on the crew.
Tumblr media
(clockwise from top)
Jonas - The oldest child of Doctor Facilier and older brother to Freddie. While still at Dragon Hall, he had a crush on Evie when she first started but she got swept in by Mal. Tired of running his dad's shop, he joined up with Uma's crew for some excitement. Doctor Facilier didn't like that too much, angry that his son chose to be a pirate over being a shadow man like him. This lead to Jonas getting disowned by his father. He didn't care too much about that, just worrying over his little sister but he knew she could take care of herself. Jonas still practices the voodoo religion that he and Freddie were taught since they were little, not everything needed magic. He did, however, have some "friends on the other side"; though it was hard to tell if they were shadows trapped in his head because of the barrier or him possibly having some form of schizophrenia. He's not the most social of the group, even among the crew but he defends them all with his life as one of Uma's bigger muscles.
Colby - The youngest member of the crew. Cobly has known Harry since he was very young, having also grown up on the Jolly Roger. His father was Captain Hook's cabin boy back in the day; before that he was a Lost Boy who wanted to get away from Peter for reasons he would never tell. Colby would follow the Hook children around like a puppy until they told him to go away. When they were little, all of the Jolly Roger children were instilled with the terrifying boogie man of their nightmares, the Demon Pan. Colby was the most terrified, often running and hiding in Harry's bed. When Harry learned about the history of Colby's dad he was determined to never let Colby feel lost or alone so he would never have to fear being stolen by the Demon Pan. As soon as he heard Harry and Uma were looking for a crew, he was one of the first sign ups. The crew putting on war paint was his idea.
Yang - The son of Shan Yu and twin brother of Bonnie. The twins never talk about themselves much. They have a symbiotic balance with each other, that creepy unspoken connection that twins have. As children of a warlord, they are both blood thirsty so took the first opportunity presented to them to join up with Uma and the rest of the Lost Revenge.
Sandy - Born Danielle D'Arque, the daughter of Monsieur D'Arque who ran the asylum Gaston tried to lock up Belle's father in. When Danielle didn't want to continue the family business of the new asylum her father put together in one of the old warehouses, he locked her up there himself. Eventually she was able to manage an escape and when she was running, she crossed paths with Gil. The two had been close friends since they were little kids until Gil started hanging out with Uma and Harry. After finding out what happened, he brought her to the ship to sign on with the rest of the crew. She's one of the only people who can talk to Harry when he goes full "tick tock" crazy. She slowly won the hearts of the rest of the crew and even Uma swears that if anything happens to her there will be a mile wide blood trail across the Isle.
Bonnie - Just as fiesty as her brother Yang. They could wield weaponry since they had the strength to hold them. Bonnie never had to worry about being a girl. Her dad perpetuated the belief of "if you're strong we want you on our side." Takes a village to raise a child, well it takes a whole horde of bloodthirsty Huns to raise a pair of warlord's twins.
Lance - The younger child of Mr Smee, he was pushed on to Harry when they were young. Captain Hook expected Harry to make Lance his first mate when he became a captain. Even though that situation didn't exactly play out as intended, Lance was just happy to serve on a ship under Harry in some regards. Always ready to assist his captain or Harry in what ever way he can.
Gonzo - Usually prefers to just go by G. Never knew his birth parents as they were killed when he was barely a year old. Their murderer was Shere Khan, his reason was G. With no other tigers on the island, there would be no way the tiger king could have an heir. All the other villains were having kids so he was becoming more and more outnumbered and his status was waning without a cub of his own, so he made due with a man cub. G walks that behavioral line between human and animal, but he is all wild predator. He doesn't go around exactly talking about his family so only few select people know. He's one of the crew's biggest defenders.
Desiree - Daughter of Sa'luk of the forty (well, thirty-nine) thieves. She served to round off their number at forty. She had been learning sword play and thievery skills since she was a small child. One little girl raised by thirty-nine fathers and uncles leads to probably a better thief than Jay. Uma has made it that should she or Harry not be around, Desiree is in charge.
(Some of these guys are obviously a bit more developed than others, but I didn't want to wait to share these babies.)

Episode 126 : None More Black
"These evil streets don't sleep..."
- Pharoahe
Here's an idea I've been holding for a while - an episode showcasing Hip-Hop tracks that took a rock sample or influence! I thought it'd be an interesting one to select and mix without reaching for the most obvious standby picks, and we've got tracks spanning almost thirty years at the extreme ends. Don't worry, the guitars come along with plenty of bars and beats!
Links for the month... Michelle Grace Hunder - wicked music photographer!
The Flyest Xmas party on Dec 20th, featuring The Soul Twins
Twitter : @airadam13
Playlist/Notes
Ice-T ft. Jello Biafra : Shut Up, Be Happy
One of those tracks that seems more relevant now than ever, this was the opener on Ice-T's underrated 1989 album "The Iceberg". A great marrying of elements, as Jello Biafra of the punk band Dead Kennedys delivers a totalitarian announcement (based on his own "Message From Our Sponsor" over a Black Sabbath loop. I couldn't put this anywhere but as the intro to the episode!
Camp Lo : 82 Afros
Kicking the pace up a touch, we move straight into a killer Camp Lo cut from the "Black Hollywood" LP, with Ski cooking up a banging rock-based beat. The kick and snare are straight boom-bap, but the toms add an unexpected extra element on top of the distorted guitar and vocal sample. Cheeba and Geechi might be known for their smooth styles, but this is just one demonstration of the fact that they can get busy over any kind of beat.
J-Zone : Moonwalk / Gel N' Weave Remix (Instrumental)
I was struggling to find just the right instrumental for this spot, but went back to "The Headband Years" to find this beat from a producer who could make a beat our of almost anything. He's full-time on his funk drumming now, but has a great catalogue of Hip-Hop that can't be fronted on.
Kobaine : Ko.Bain
This is an artist I know very little about, as as far as I'm aware this is his only release to date, a nice little contribution to the 2002 "Subway Series Vol.1" compilation on Major League Entertainment. I got this on digital release which had no credits included, so I'm not sure who produced it - I can imagine it being a Nick Wiz or Tribeca track though.
Agallah : Ag Season
Brownsville's Agallah has often channelled the rockstar vibes in his career, and this woozy-guitared track from "Bo : The Legend of the Water Dragon" sounds entirely natural for him. Self-produced as always, it's short, rock solid, and to the point.
Fabolous : Breathe
Fifteen years old, already? This was a huge single for Fabolous, taken from his "Real Talk" album, and is one of his best-known tracks even after all these years. Just Blaze laced him with a beat based around Supertramp's "Crime of the Century", and got a surprise when Fab told him he'd written his lyrics around the "breathe" vocal sample on the track...because that's not what it said! However, on hearing the bars, Just went back and made some changes to align the audio with what Fab thought he heard!
Ras Kass ft. Killah Priest : Milli Vanilli
Ras Kass' "Quarterly" was collection of tracks he released once a week, finally brought together in late 2009 - and there are some great cuts in there. Here's one, with Veterano's beat sounding like a cybernetic heavy metal group trying to destroy the speaker stack! Ras cuts through it regardless, and special guest Killah Priest (fellow member of THE HRSMN) matches him bar for bar as always. The hook of course channels the then-recent Lil Wayne track "A Milli", which was a heavily-used beat for freestyles around this time.
Body Count : C-Note
This was one of the shorter and gentler tracks on the debut Body Count album, but was always one of my favourites - Ernie C makes that guitar cry for real. Ice-T's metal project was waved off by some doubters in the beginning, but the music was solid from their first appearance on the "OG: Original Gangster" album and they're still killing it to this day.
Bumpy Knuckles : Swazzee
This one is so aggro, you have to love it. Seriously, you'd better. Bumpy Knuckles is in fine form on this guaranteed weight-training motivational track from "Konexion", taking out sucker MCs, snitches, haters, and pretty much everyone else. The hook is reminiscent of an old Sly Stone cut, and Knockout's beat is ferocious - precise, measured drums with the harsh guitar over the top. Bumpy might be the king of the third verse but a track like this lets you know he can handle the first two just fine!
Public Enemy : Go Cat Go
The "He Got Game" soundtrack was unfairly overlooked by too many heads, but is an absolutely worthy entry in Public Enemy's long and storied discography. Chuck D's political awareness and love of sports (he actually wanted to be a sportscaster at one point) combined for a really interesting listen. Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto and Danny Saber of Black Grape cover this one in heavy guitars which would drown out most MCs, but not Chuck! As the album subtitle says, this one is about the game behind the game...
Boogie Down Productions : Ya Slippin
It's hard to think now of BDP being a crew with a future in doubt, but this is how it was back in 1988 as "By All Means Necessary" was released, not long after the murder of founding DJ Scott La Rock. KRS might be young here but he rhymes with the confidence of someone who left home as a child to become an MC, survived homelessness, and achieved his goal. He scolds weak MCs like "The Teacha" he is, and gets down on the production too - the rock heads will recognise this guitar sample a mile off!
Pharoahe Monch : Got You
Shout out to Vicky T for reminding me of this tune! The lead single from the "Training Day" soundtrack is one where I think the radio version (as heard here) surpasses the original. Monch perfectly encapsulates the essence of Denzel Washington's character, who is one of the classic movie villains of modern times - and strikingly, is based on real police.
[J-Zone] Boss Hog Barbarians : Celph Destruction (Instrumental)
Zone again, and while it one didn't come to mind immediately, the aggressive sonics of this instrumental get it the nod here. The Boss Hog Barbarians (J-Zone and Celph Titled) album is an absolute tribute to ignorance (intentionally), but if you can deal with that then it's an excellent addition to your collection.
LL Cool J : Go Cut Creator Go
Another 80s classic hard rocking track, from LL's "Bigger And Deffer" album. It's the kind of track we don't get now - the MC just bigging up the DJ. DJ Cut Creator was with LL from the very beginning, and was the one who actually helped him to get him name known, so it's nice to hear the appreciation. The scratches still stand up today and cut through even the loudest of the guitar samples on the track!
Sly Boogy : Fatal Mistake
Sly may not have put anything out for a while, but the San Bernadino native did drop a few nice tracks in the early 2000s. This one has him totally disregarding the common standards of Hip-Hop song structure, opening up with a thirty-two bar first verse just to show he's not playing. DJ Revolution provides the cuts, and production is courtesy of a then-emerging Jake One. This actually doesn't have a rock influence, but is here because of how well it goes with the next instrumental...
[Rick Rubin] Jay-Z : 99 Problems (Instrumental)
The combination of this and "Fatal Mistake" is one I discovered while doing a mix years and years ago, and wanted to bring out again when the opportunity arose! You probably all know the vocal version of this track, which appeared on Jay-Z's "The Black Album". While working with the legendary Def Jam co-founder and producer Rubin, Jay said he wanted something like the flavour he used to give to the Beastie Boys and this was the result - a meshing of several ideas that came together perfectly.
Public Enemy : She Watch Channel Zero?!
Let's be real - the sexism is heavy on this track! It'd be entirely reasonable to argue that spending all day watching sports on TV isn't any better than soap operas, but that's just my opinion :) 1988's "...Nation of Millions..." yields this song which had an interesting connection - sampling the group Slayer, who were produced by Def Jam founder and major PE supporter Rick Rubin.
Lacuna Coil : The Game
Going pure rock on this selection from this veteran Milanese gothic metal band! I actually learned about this group from "Guitar Hero" of all places, and "Our Truth" led me to the 2006 "Karmacode" album that included this track. It always reminded me a little of "Channel Zero", and while the guitar riffs are definitely fire and the drums bang, it's the combined and contrasting vocals of Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro that can't fail to grab your ear.
RJD2 : Exotic Talk
Prog rock meets Hip-Hop sensibilities as RJD2 twists and turns, chilling things out in parts before bringing the thunder crashing back in. Definite standout from 2004's "Since We Last Spoke".
Z-Trip : Rockstar
We close with a standout track from the "Return of the DJ, Volume II" compilation, with Phoenix's Z-Trip putting together a masterpiece of DJ/producer song construction. The sample list is long, and since I don't know what was and wasn't cleared, I won't give anything away here!
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!

Skittz Loco:
Raised in the cradle of hip-hop, Skittz uprooted from the bustling streets of the Bronx and has been making moves across the planet ever since.
Essentially, Skittz is fueled up with a natural feel for verbal dexterity.
She uses a range of punchlines, base knocking bars (that can either hype up a crowd or woo a lady), catchy hooks and dominant flows that force your ears to stay wide open. You feel a burst of energy all at once when you’re listening and it makes you want to get up and bang your head to the production and the words she spits.
In the same way, Skittz has control over every beat she spits on. She solely speaks about “getting this money securing the bag”, not giving these females, haters or phonies the time of day, being true to her main ones, murdering every beat and riding for her city, her team so that’s why it’s easy to get locked in.
A regular girl who is just trying to put on for communities like Gun Hill Road and Parkchester, the Loc’s (Crips), femcees, LGBT’s, millennials, virgo’s and the African American community, Skittz began rapping at the age of 7 but was told by her father that she loved music since the diaper days “My first MC name was B-Money$$ which I got from the 90s hit show “Moesha”, says Skittz “On the show Ray J’s character Dorian’s nickname was D-Money and I loved the name so much I replaced it with a B because my birth name starts with a B.”
As each day passes by, Skittz finds inspiration in the hunger she has for success and wealth, “In my lifetime (in 26 years) I have experienced numerous near death encounters.” Skittz goes on to say “The fact that so many people that I know have died (young and old) God chose to still keep me alive and that lets me know I’m meant for greatness and that I have a mission to fulfill! I have to make everyday count for something. I have to create a LEGACY!” Skittlez Loc hopes with her success she’s able to provide for the ones that have helped her on this journey “I want to help my grandparents retire. I hate seeing them work! They have done so much for me I feel like I have to give them the world back!”
To add on Skittz has a list of inspirations that have pushed her to become the musician that she is today and that includes: God, her grandparents and a couple artist from her city like Fat Joe, Remy Ma, A Boogie with the Hoodie, Don Q,Hood Celebrityy, Cardi B, J.Lo, Pun, Dream Doll and French Montana, her best friends, Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Diddy, Drake, and Les Brown.
In the wave of her sound, Skittz also wants her fans to witness her complex bars and get a vivid image. She hopes to inspire her listeners and encourage them to chase their dreams, “I want them to do what makes them happy and accomplish their goals. Shit if I can do it.. anybody can!” Skittz says.
Besides her message through the music, Skittz list Securing Tha Bag” and “Mek You Neva Wanna Leave” featuring Mona Brea (a good friend of hers) as the top songs she had fun making (and make sure to look out for Mek You Never Wanna Leave to release soon). She says her favorite performances was for DJ Tarzan’s “The Next Big Showcase “ and in Miami at Renee’s Wynwood.
As for local acts, she suggest Mona Brea, Trippy Troy, Jet Lyfe, Billie B, Marley Quinn, and Janay Nicole for those who haven’t heard them already.
With this in mind, Skittz is someone who shows nothing but love to those who support her and to her city. Every time we speak, I see that she wants to make it. She’s always planning to work on a song after we spend some time together or is spinning some ideas in her mind so she can get on the map. Skittz makes urgent deliveries when it comes to what she wants and has growth in every track she releases.
Skittz is closer to fame than she may think and creates excitement for what’s about to come next.
