Wild robot is so autistic child gets adopted by autistic mom coded and it made me WEEP
It's funny, its animation is gorgeous, and it left me in shambles but feeling whole by the end of it. Really goddamn good movie.
#wild robot#genuinely think its a new instant classic for animated films#its not a sequel or a reboot#its just a beautifully done adaptation that was executed marvelously#i think its based off of books anyway

Films watched (1990s): THE WINSLOW BOY (1999); dir. & screenplay David Mamet (adapted from the play by Terence Rattigan). Starring Nigel Hawthorne, Jeremy Northam, Rebecca Pidgeon & Gemma Jones.
"No, not justice. Right. Easy to do justice. Very hard to do right."
#tbs old films watched#the winslow boy#gif#quotes#nigel hawthorne#jeremy northam#rebecca pidgeon#gemma jones#guy edwards#catherine winslow#robert morton#1990s#period drama#book adaptations#my gifs#terence rattigan#david mamet#i finally got around to watching this last year; it's been on my radar since 99#anyway in short i loved it far too much#it keeps to the play in refusing to add the described court scenes (a natural choice for a film) but also eschews theatricality#and therefore is a very naturalistic observational piece that is extremely low key but also more immediate and less 'period'#plus as ever with rattigan the sharp character studies as the case puts huge strain on the winslow family#and issues of justice and media storms that never go away#with a tiny but excellent cast#including sev fave actors. in short. it was made to appeal to me so i can't be objective#not for those who like a lot of flash bang action in their films#but absolutely excellent if you enjoy small scale character pieces beautifully done with much left to ponder after#also so many doors. the viewer is very much an observer; we are always peering round or standing in doorways

i really liked marnie upon rewatch but mark (implicitly) maritally raping marnie half-way through his attempts to get her to reconcile with her traumatically repressed childhood memories seems counter intuitive. even freud could have told you that my man

if i had a cent for every time jared harris played a veteran, harried sea captain who ordered his loyal first to have a female poc with ties to a powerful folkloric creature thrown off his ship bc of his own internalized self-loathing, i would have two cents. which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
#the terror#the sea beast#i rewatched the sea beast the weekend past#it's such a fun and beautifully animated age-of-sail-type adventure story with great voice acting; but while i was watching it#i kept noticing how much of a “well done son” guy jacob holland is towards crow before maisie sets him straight during the film's climax#which; okay i get they have an actual father-son dynamic despite not being related BUT#jacob has such intense “are you proud of me now dad?” wdsg energy for most of the film#and that naturally got me thinking about my favourite cringefail wdsg of all time (ned little my beloved)#and whether or not he'd fare better with augustus crow as his captain#(odds are still out on that one but i wouldn't hedge my bets...)#that being said i feel like jacob would be able to survive drunk!crozier. maybe not unscathed; but better than ned did#all of which led me to the definitely normal and not at all insane conclusion#that jacob holland is; in fact; the perfect amalgamation of all the traits a joplittle love-child would possess

Susannah was quivering as she and Philippe headed up to their box and took their seats: With the way she was trembling, one might think she was about to go onstage herself, suddenly seized by an intense care of stage fright...
...but why? She had nothing to be nervous about. No eyes were on her, as they climbed the stairs up into the box, a pair of plush, comfortable-looking chairs awaiting them, as well as two pairs of opera glasses. No one was paying any attention to the young couple preparing to watch the show, just like everyone else. To them, she and Philippe were just another pair of faces in the crowd.
And yet, Susannah still couldn't help but feel jittery for some reason, as she fidgeted with her program, trying not to crumple it in her hands. She couldn't help but wonder if it was because, dressed in her best friend's clothes, wearing her hair up and sitting beside a high-class man, about to watch a ballet, she felt like something of an imposter, as though she didn't belong here. Maybe she felt like someone would clock her as an imposter, clock her as being who she was-what she was-and throw a fit. It was an absurd fear and she knew it, but she couldn't help but feel it anyways.
Setting her jaw, she tried to furnky put the fear aside, not about to let it spoil her afternoon with her beloved. Setting her program on her knee, she instead found Philippe's hand again, squeezing it as the overture began, and whispering sweetly to him over the hum of the instruments beginning to warm, "Thank you again for this, Philippe-I...I think I'll have a wonderful time. E-E-Especially with you here with me."
She punctuated this with a little kiss to his cheek, making her blush like a schoolgirl as she turned her attention to the stage.
#((it goes to show that they don't have to make their job harder! they can write a sequel without upending the story))#((of the previous film! they could've easily done ANY other sort of story; they could've done something new))#((a story that didn't try to lean on the previous film; i don't know why they needed to dredge up the parents' plotline!))#((considering how long they've been dead and how there was NO implication that either of them had any magical inclination))#((there was no reason to go back to the proverbial well and make up any sort of explanation to their intentions))#((or to even explain elsa's powers because it just makes a mess of the story!))#((i don't know if the whole 'explain elsa's powers/involve the parents' plot thread was something the writers invented))#((or if it was a corporate mandate that came down from on high and they had to crowbar it into the story somehow))#((but either way...it's just embarrassing! we think of disney as not only creating beautifully animated films))#((but also telling great; well-written stories and so being able to blow a hole *this* easily in one of their stories?))#((that's just embarrassing honestly!))#outofhatboxes#beatingheart-bride#V:Genderbent

rewatching princess and the frog as an adult was super fun
#this movie got raked over the coals in ways people have never done for other Disney films#‘the shadow man plot is too complicated’ bro it’s#not that hard to follow.#the songs slap#Tiana and Naveen have really sweet chemistry#and while it’s unclear and confusing why Tiana forgets there’s a doppleganger (ie. whether her doubt comes from doubting Naveen has changed#or whether it comes from a place of doubting herself as being someone worth being chosen)#this film is still really fun and beautifully animated#Disney consistently relegating their characters who were poc to being transformed into animals is absolutely a point of critique#but insofar as the plot mechanisms people raked this movie far harder than they ever did disneys other films#tunes titters#Naveen/Tiana end scene you will ALWAYS be so so cute and famous I love u

Every Film I Watch In 2023:
272. Si Manis Jembatan Ancol (2019)
#si manis jembatan ancol#si manis jembatan ancol (2019)#2023filmgifs#my gifs#i'm not using the other title#it's too stupid#the Indonesian title even translated into English#is so much lovelier#i really enjoyed the big reveal in the final act and the showdown#but then it turned so terribly sad#and kinda broke my heart#it was filmed and colour-graded so beautifully#but the horror effects seemed oddly amateurish#and turns out there was a reason for that#i'm glad i watched that#totally could have done without the comedic bits of course

ohhhhhh my god my lead actress's big brown eyes...... girl you're killing me......
#and my male lead is quite literally blonde with blue eyes it's ridiculous#he's ok tho. actually i did find out today he played clarient in marching band in hs#so that's a red flag but hey i just need him to act and he's been pretty great at it. red flags are allowed <3#he also got us our other guy we needed for some small scenes. so he's been invaluable despite the serial killer eyes#in truth he actually looks lke a panda to me. there's nothing wrong with his serial killer blue eyes i'm being mean#sorry for being anti men who play clarient. in my defense i've known those guys and i have never met one that didn't annoy me a little#anyway. she has beautiful big brown eyes and he is there. and our other guy is beautifully tragic and doomed <3#that was my criteria for casting him. i said 'he needs to look beautiful and tragic' and then we found him#he did great today. i don't know if he likes me but he showed up and he wore all the outfits i told him to wear so#actually i think i act weird around good looking men. i think it's because once a hot guy is around i get one notch lower on the hierarchy#and i'm usually up there. frankly. so i don't like being lowered...#i mean you guys will see what he looks like eventually i'm gonna post the link to the film when it's done and i'm graduated#but he's Hot. i was scared of him for a moment. he was wearing sunglasses. and then i made him walk up a bigass hill#and then i made him be in vaguely homoerotic pictures. his words. he didn't seem to mind there were jokes had. jests even#and tomorrow at 11am im gonna make him stand on a bed and put stars on a wall while yelling at him to smile and look pretty#and well. that's awesome. heirarchy is restored once we all remember that i'm the guy in charge......#anyway. i had an eventful day. 8am to now. i gotta go to sleep girls.#unfortunately that's not happening soon due to i've committed myself to reviewing today's footage. ok

i just woke up from a dream where i was watching this beautifully intense art deco animated silent short film about a man who grew up with people who claimed to love him taking everything from him thinking it was their right and him learning that’s just the way things go and then he meets a girl and falls in love and they get married and everything is beautiful and perfect but when they have a child and she gets postpartum depression he starts to spiral because he doesn’t know how to exist without the full engagement of the one person on earth who loves him selflessly and so after weeks of her not being in the mood and him starting to hear voices from his past telling him that he’s supposed to take from those he loves he rapes her and immediately after he’s filled with regret and she’s so heartbroken that she leaves in the middle of the night with the baby and their house that was once beautiful and filled with light starts to get dark and ugly and eventually he tells her to take the house and he’ll be the one to leave so they switch and as she starts to love herself and her baby the house is filled with colour and love again and meanwhile he frequents a local jazz bar where his skin and hair start to turn the colour of the spirits because it’s all he’s filled with instead of love anymore and she sends him divorce papers and he can’t sign them because anytime he tries he starts crying and his tears turn into huge tidal waves filling the room and eventually he goes back to the house for some kind of legal meeting and finds that she’s seemingly fallen in love with her divorce lawyer because he taught her that love is about giving not taking and the man is even more depressed seeing them together but happy that she’s happy at the same time and then he sees his baby and sees that they’re still drawn in the same colours and while his almost-ex-wife and her divorce lawyer boyfriend are in the kitchen he’s on the floor of the living room with the baby and everything she does is filling him with her colours to the point where he’s a completely different drawing/man by the end of it and when the woman comes back into the room she’s shocked to see someone else and he apologises to her over and over crying and his tears fill up the house and everything else washes away until the picture is of the house split into two sides one half her colours and one half his colours and they touch hands and suddenly see a montage of their lives together before they were ever taught that love is supposed to be painful by other people and their colours start to mix together again and she smiles and they kiss and the music crescendos and then everything goes black
i also watched one (in my dream) same art style same music and intensity where a once-famous detective now with memory loss is in his own home but thinks he’s been kidnapped and trapped there and spends the whole short film trying to solve the mystery of his own kidnapping from inside the house except you don’t know at first what the real mystery is or who the subject is or that he’s not trapped at all just thinks he is and every clock he passes for some reason gives him the illusion that when it gets to a certain time his time will have run out and someone will come to kill him but that’s actually just not true and nothing is going to happen and the mystery is solved when his clocks all break and he thinks because they’ve stopped ticking he has all the time in the world
in the dream i remember being obsessed with the filmmaker and making all my relatives watch his work and i think he had a japanese name??
anyway…….. i also had a dream that i accidentally killed a bug and was distraught and then it came back to life and tried to fly away and my brother killed it on purpose
#what is up with me actually???? uhhh does anybody know????#god i wish i could show u guys the way the short film looked. like i did not come up with it i was just blessed with the vision#it was so beautifully made and intense in my dream i was crying so hard my eyes were swollen#and then i woke up and was like ‘i wasn’t done i wanted to watch more he had so many more’#is this man real??? do these short films exist??????

I think my official opinion is that skinamarink is an incredible horror film if u watch it through the lens of how childhood trauma can skew your perception of the past and make things difficult to remember or understand. I also know this film wasn't made with any one viewing lens in mind, so idk if it deserves credit for that. but again on the third hand I do think the fact that it can have whatever underlying meaning that u want makes it uniquely entertaining in the way that two people can watch the same exact film at the same exact time and come away with entirely different interpretations, probably both of them being interpretations that those two people separately think were incredibly well done. which is actually really hard to do if you're just making a film with the intent to scare and no deliberate meaning behind it. and on part d I have always said that good horror doesn't actually need to mean anything at all. it just needs to make u feel something. so take from this what u will
#we got another barbarian (2022) situation on our hands I'm gonna be thinking about this film for the next 3 months#before I decide if I liked it or not#rn I think it was beautifully done and incredibly inventive but I don't think it was For Me#but maybe I'll change my mind later idk check back with me in june#text post

Films watched (2000s): Glorious 39 (Momentum, 2009); written & dir. Stephen Poliakoff. Starring Romola Garai, Bill Nighy, Eddie Redmayne, Julie Christie, Charlie Cox, Jeremy Northam, David Tennant & Christopher Lee.
"Anne, listen."
#glorious 39#gif#tbs old films watched#romola garai#anne keyes#bill nighy#eddie redmayne#jeremy northam#david tennant#charlie cox#hugh bonneville#2000s#cinema#period drama#wwii#stephen poliakoff#british cinema#thriller#spies#so last summer i finally saw this which i wanted to see before i was so ill#(i mean. look at the cast. it's a ridiculous cast)#it's a really interesting psychological thriller about people in the british gov't pushing for appeasement in the summer of 1939#and silencing pro-war people (in this film; david tennant's character)#which leads to a big secret in the keyes family around their lost adopted daughter anne#(romola)#but also. anne is an aspiring actor & it gets 1 million points for them showing her shooting a 1939 film#and it's a gainsborough melodrama & a pretty credible looking one#(my old film watching has involved a lot of gainsborough melodramas so i appreciated that!)#psychological stuff not action-y. v romola-centric. beautifully shot. v dark and interesting themes well done#tw for gaslighting and animal harm

pornstar!toji who is known for being easy with his scenes. he's there for a good fuck and an even better paycheck: it doesn't matter who, or where, or how... if he's being paid he will do it. he doesn't mind getting nasty, and so he's often booked for more exotic scenes. he fucks good, and he fucks a lot.
pornstar!toji who is strapped for cash one week after an unfortunate loss on the horses, and takes the first scene offered to him. a vanilla fuck with a new-to-the-scene pornstar with potential... at least that's what his agent, shiu, tells him. he's confused on what potential he's hinting at until he rocks up ten minutes late to the shoot and lays eyes on you, already naked and on the stage bed. you have a look to you that makes a man like toji feel obliged to drop to his knees.
pornstar!toji who is already harder than he has been in a long time when shiu clarifies that when he called you 'new to the scene' he meant it: this is your first porn shoot. and though you're not a virgin, toji has the honour of taking your first time on camera... and god does he love the thought.
pornstar!toji who is greeted with a small smile and a soft 'hello' from you, shy beneath his gaze as if you aren't naked and soon to be stuffed full of his cock. he watches your eyes shift, from his piercing eyes to his beautifully scarred lip to the gorgeous tone of his body, all the way down to his awfully large cock. he can tell you're nervous, worried about taking all of him on film.
pornstar!toji who isnt good with gentle comforts, but still wants you to feel at ease with him. so, despite his instructions for a simple fuck scene, toji attacks you with deep kisses first, gets you used to the burning heat of his body against yours. and when you're melted enough against his skin he trails down and eats you out for a long twenty minutes. production would try and stop him, but he's already tipsy on your taste and the moans leaving your lips are, frankly, made for porn.
pornstar!toji who revels in the way your back arches off the mattress—he'd accuse you of putting on a show for the cameras if your hips weren't bucking up against his face in an almost primal need. he can taste it on you, the genuine lust, the way you drip wet on his tongue and still grab at his hair for more. and when he gives you more—when he finally slips his cock into you—he can't help himself from groaning out something needy. he's the silent type, letting his costar take center stage, but god can he not keep quiet feeling your walls wrapped around him.
pornstar!toji who has never had an issue with porn before, but with your legs wrapped around his waist, your eyes locked onto his as he pumps in and out of you with white hot need, he finds he hates the thought of anyone else seeing you like this. he's not a possessive man, he shouldn't feel this way, but he does. even the watchful stares of the cameramen piss him off, and he finds his hips moving faster and his cock nestling deeper inside of you just to show them that he's the one pleasing you.
pornstar!toji who can't help but kiss you as you both cum in unison. he ruins the shot, the cameras cant see your orgasm face when he's swallowing your moans like they're sweet wine. he's surprised his pay doesn't get cut for it.
when pornstar!toji does get paid, it's the first cheque in a very long time that he doesn't blow the same night it comes through. because he doesn't have time to go out and waste his money: he's at home fucking his fist to the film you made together and mentally degrading himself for being so pussy whipped. he strokes himself in time with his own thrusts in the video, and tries so desperately to recall your taste on his tongue, but its fruitless. he's agitated and sexually frustrated and keeps reloading your personal pages to see if you've filmed with anyone since him.
pornstar!toji who becomes so lost in his own mind that he starts turning down shoots with other actors—shoots with good pay. he's done everything under the sun, done all the hardcore porn and weird fetish content but now that he's gotten a fresh taste of plain passion sex with you, he can't stomach anything else. he'd say your name, he knows it—and it doesn't help that he hasn't been able to reach orgasm for a week without thinking of you.
pornstar!toji who, after three weeks of pure misery, decides to make a move. he doesn't do dates or romantic nights on the town. he doesn't do flowers or sweet nothings or eye contact even, but he finds himself contacting shiu and threatening the poor man in hopes of your real name, your address, anything.
and you, late one evening fucking yourself on your fingers to the brink of frustrated tears because they're not his cock. even more disgruntled when theres a pounding knock at your front door, and after cleaning yourself up a little you swing it open to find pornstar!toji stood in the rain outside. and you can only take him in—his heavy build and desperate eyes—before he's crashing his lips against yours, walking you into your own home and kicking the door shut behind him.
