Note
I am reminded. Kaeya is either lying about not having been to Khaenri'ah, or his story was misleading at first glance.
In English, it says, "On the other side of the horizon sat their distant homeland of Khaenri'ah."
In very little time, I can think of a couple possibilities.
He's Kaeya and he's a lying liar who lies.
Khaenri'ah, their homeland, exists or has existed somewhere - but I don't recall it stating Kaeya himself has ever actually been there? Just that it is there. He thought of it. He knew of it. He knew it is there. It was why he was being left. He had been told about and felt loyal to it. It was on his mind. He has only been told all this secondhand - it is a concept and belief he's been asked to be faithful to, the idea that it is/was there + worth having hope for. Presumably, it is past tense is in reference to his being abandoned being in the past, but there is technically no distinction between what it says and "was [once] sat" (implied even further past). I don't think it's meant like that - I feel like it would've said "was once sat" if it did, unless they were trying to be subtle or clever or something.
I suppose it could be some subtle metaphor, like "in the distant future" as like... a goal or something idk
Or retconned. that always can happen.
(Also, I wonder how it's phrased in other languages. "On the other side of the horizon" could mean "Over the horizon" - implying either an above ground settlement or entrance, if it's not just a meaningless turn of phrase meaning elsewhere. Or, it could Literally mean on the other side of the horizon, which I find a clever idea - that is, indirectly stating it as underground.

The distant future thing is a really interesting perspective I think, really cool. Also tue over the orizon bit just gave me some ideas (tm) regarding what I Think Teyvat geology and the world itself looks like. Mostly after we got confirmation that Khaenri'ah does have a sky and shit. Hold on I'll draw this and then reblog or something... (I'm on a bus rn and can't...)
Either way really good analysis.
