NOTE !! : I write for a lot of diff characters (mentioned down below) & i might not be able to write frequently/fulfill asks too fast bcs im in my last year of hs so pls b patient ^^!

Hey Jasmine! I hope this isn't annoying, but do you have any tips for gaining more followers and blog traffic on tumblr? I've been on here for a while and haven't seen much of a change, and I really want followers to interact with and talk to!

hi! tbh...... idk why ppl follow me lol! idk how ive managed to gain a bunch of followers here on this platform aside from the fact that i make original posts! i used to make informational posts for the witchblr community which helped me gain a platform n ive generally bounced thru a few diff communities n gained ppl here n there from each lol.

but i guess just making your own posts n using the tags is the best way to go!

I would argue that IG has actually made it MORE difficult to be media literate because so much of IG culture, especially IG beauty and modeling culture, is about these women seeming like they’re just individuals un-attached to a brand, just taking a selfie on their own with no lighting/makeup/hair crews to help them. Just a thought.

Maybe so! I’m gonna give a really rough estimate of my thoughts on this but I see it as one point of origin (one dot) with two lines coming out of it representing exponential extremes. So you have the rise of things like alternative beauty or really “beauty that people generally have felt shame about” or “beauty that has not been validated as beautiful” you have people with really strong features or skin colors or weights or etc that have traditionally been shunned from the mainstream get considerable attention and validation from the social media circuit. Which is a positive & one of the lines from the point of origin. Then the other line is as you mention, the faux-effortless and the highly perfected looks that can cause feelings of insecurity. Media literacy is important but I don’t think IG has made it harder. To go way back, its essentially the same thing as yellow journalism (but a way diff subject lol); you’re presented something as fact when the producers know it to be false. So you need to rely on your own instincts bc nothing is specifically good or specifically bad if it’s merely a TOOL; instagram doesn’t do anything, it’s the users and how they manipulate the platform of imagery. Yes it can be difficult to navigate but I think it’s also really important to see other people who are “like me” represented on a platform that is so international and popular. It’s difficult to divorce the impact of platforms like ig into arbitrary “good” or “bad” but I DO stand by my personal belief that while widespread, our generation (millennial, X?) is actually the most media savvy & media literate in existence. We’re much more quick to call “photoshoooooop!!!” or “that’s so messed up & unrealistic” on a Post than any other generation who was exposed to skewed/altered images & that’s bc of things like IG.
