Perfection shatters like glass
Isogai is only perfect because he has to be, not because he wants to be.
A bit of character study(?) and making Isogai cry lol.

-----------------------------------------------
The soft glow of the sunlight filtered in through the window, casting a yellow hue inside the living room. Books lay scattered on the table, disorderly stacked. Maehara sat on one end of the couch, observing Isogai, who was positioned at the opposite end, head buried in a book. He observed how delicately Isogai handled the pages, admired how focused he was, golden eyes fixated on the story in front of him. His expressions constantly changed as he read, and Maehara could only assume he was mirroring the character’s emotions. How cute. Makes him want to call Isogai something equally adorable.
"Hey, can I call you darling?” Maehara asked, his head in the clouds, a dumb grin on his face.
"I dunno, try it out," Isogai replied, not bothering to look up from his book. He felt the couch sink next to him as Maehara sat beside him.
"Okay, darling." Maehara's gaze softened, and he felt his heart melt at the taste of the nickname on his tongue. It made him feel old-fashioned, absolutely smitten with his best friend. He stares at Isogai, taking in how his eyes dart up from the book to Maehara, only just processing his words. Maehara chuckles to himself at how cute Isogai's reaction is, albeit delayed. He's way too stupidly in love with his best friend. But he doesn't mind. He admires how the light pouring in from the window makes Isogai's eyes shine. How the curve of his lips tugged up just a little. How his eyes gaze back at him, a little surprised. How his antenna sprung up with his emotions before quickly returning to normal.
Isogai felt his heart skip a beat, and butterflies in his stomach. Blush starts to blend into his cheeks, though it's faint. He can't help but smile, giggling a little inside. He rolls his eyes affectionately, used to Maehara's flirts and sweet nothings. Why he puts up with Maehara, he doesn't know. But they've been close since childhood, and understand each other better than anyone else. He doesn't want to lose that bond. "Since when did you become such a romantic?" He half-jokingly asks, putting his book on the table.
Despite their history together, they feel like inexperienced kids, trying to figure out love for the first time. It's just a simple, sweet pet name. A name that kisses the back of one's hand, makes someone feel like they're floating on clouds. It makes one feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's a feeling akin to the aroma of fresh bread, the personal thought of a handwritten letter. It’s watching the rain pelting down gently on the pavement, staring through frosted glass windows with a warm drink in hand. It’s the sun reaching through the windows at dawn, encasing everything in a warm yellow glow when the world hasn't woken up yet.
Maehara slowly wrapped his arms around Isogai's waist, peppering featherlight kisses along his shoulder. "Ever since I fell in love with you, darling." Maehara purposefully says it again, and Isogai can practically hear his smile.
"Pff- stop," Isogai giggled softly, ticklish from the onslaught of kisses. "Th-that tickles."
"Fine, fine. Whatever you say-" Maehara relents, kissing him a final time, "-prince charming."
Ah, that old nickname.
Isogai doesn't really think it suits him.
"Prince charming, huh?" he repeats, testing how the title rolls off his tongue. It's a foreign feeling. He doesn't think he deserves such a fancy title. Maybe he's just being modest. "You of all people should know I'm really not that perfect like others say."
Maehara sighs. Having been best friends with Isogai, he knows there is more to him than his charms. He's seen him frightened, and scared. He's witnessed the forgetful and panicky side of Isogai. He's helped him through his meltdowns when the weight of the world on his shoulders was too much to handle. He's seen him angry, and tired. Although, these aren't really flaws to his character. At least that's what Maehara thinks. He ponders deeper, wondering what exactly his friend's weaknesses are.
Perhaps it's his overly self-sacrificing habits, his selfless acts and priorities. Maybe it's his perfection itself that's his flaw. His own downfall. Maybe it's the outcome of his backstory. The aftermath of the long nights and forced smiles. Taking care of others so much that he forgets to take care of himself. Thinking that he isn't good enough, downplaying his self-worth as he's used to it. He wants everyone else to be happy. He thinks his own opinions don't matter.
No. It can't be that either.
Maehara frowns a bit, and wishes Isogai can realize that he's worthy of the nickname of 'prince charming.' That he's perfect even with imperfections.
"I do know. But you're still perfect to me. I always called you that when we were kids and you never had a problem then."
"Yeah, when we were playing pretend," Isogai says, a hint of nostalgic melancholy in his voice. He misses those days, when he was happier, when everything was simpler and there wasn't much to worry about. When Maehara would make him a flower crown ‘fit for a prince’ and pretend to be his knight. He isn't too sure how the whole prince thing started, or why Maehara would think of him as one. But that was back then, and now they've grown older. Now they have responsibilities and duties to take care of. He can't live in a world of fantasies and reminisce about the past forever. He wishes he could, but he can't, no matter how much he yearns for it. "This is reality, Hiroto. We're not kids anymore."
"Don't wanna believe it," Maehara spat out with a pout. "You just grew up faster because you had to."
Ah.
That came out wrong.
But once the words left his mouth, it left a bitter taste on Maehara’s tongue. His throat goes dry and he regrets it immediately. Maehara never really cared for his responsibilities, choosing to fool around and have fun instead. Isogai didn’t have that luxury.
"Oh, I. . . I see," Isogai trails off, unsure of how to respond. He knows it's the truth, and that Maehara wasn't trying to be mean. Isogai did have to grow up faster than other kids his age. He had to be someone his family could depend on, someone others could rely on. He prioritized others' needs before his own. He still does. He pushes himself a lot and it tears him apart mentally and emotionally. He's tired. He's ‘perfect’ because he has to be. Admittedly, it hurts, not having a normal childhood. Forced into maturing and growing up from a young age. He technically still is a kid, though it doesn't feel like it with the overwhelming weight of the world on his shoulders.
"N-No, Yuuma, I didn't mean. . ." Maehara panics and hugs Isogai just a little bit tighter. He doesn't want to see his best friend cry. Especially because of his own mistake. He would never forgive himself for that. "Sorry." It sounds like a shallow, half-hearted apology, just one measly word. But he can't seem to say anything else. He falls silent and stares blankly at the floor.
Isogai doesn't break away from Maehara's hold. Maehara’s kisses linger on his skin. The feeling is bittersweet. Isogai gets a sense of deja vu, and he remembers the name he was given that day in class when everyone was given codenames. 'President poverty,' they called him. Almost mockingly, like salt being rubbed on the wound. He bites his bottom lip, remembering who gave him the codename in the first place.
Maehara Hiroto, his best friend since childhood, the one who understood him most out of everyone. The one who he shared his secrets with, the one who’s been with him through thick and thin. Thinking about it, it almost feels like a betrayal. He glares at the floor.
"President Poverty," he drawled out, venom injected into each syllable.
"Wh-what?" Maehara questions, confused at the sudden change in Isogai’s tone.
Maehara's ignorance, intentional or not, sends Isogai off the edge. "Are you fucking dumb? Wasn't it your idea to give me that codename? My personality isn't just being perfect and poor, y'know!" He practically hisses, prying himself away from Maehara. Isogai frowns at him, glaring at him through misty tinted eyes, pale golden irises losing their shine. "You’re so mean, Hiroto. It's not like I wished to be born into a poor family, for my dad to die, and for my mom to become ill. I didn't want this. I never wanted all these responsibilities. I never wanted to be perfect." He didn't want to be perfect. He wanted to be a kid again.
"Hey, hey, what's with this all of a sudden?" Because while Maehara knows Isogai well, he can't read his mind, can’t follow the trail of thoughts that lead Isogai to this point.
"You wouldn't understand. You don't have to work your life away just to make sure you survive."
What started from anger turned into tears, and Isogai isn't too sure himself of why he's crying. It just hurts, and he's tired of this life. His life. Overwhelmed with everything, his emotions bottled up only to crash in waves. All his life, other people always reminded him that he was poor. They’d point and laugh at something he couldn’t even control. His financial situation was always their go-to insult. And he’d always brush it off with a forced smile, trying to block the insults from his memory. It always hurt whenever he remembered them.
Maehara never really made fun of him for being poor. Or at least, not until the ‘president poverty’ thing. It hurts now that he’s realized it. Isogai considered Maehara his best friend, and yet, it doesn’t feel like it. But Isogai genuinely can't hate him, and he hates that.
Maehara isn't too sure how to respond, not wanting to make the situation worse, only watching Isogai cry out of supposed anger. Maehara lets Isogai cry, he probably needs it anyway, and decides to talk when he's finished. In the meantime, he reflects on Isogai’s outburst and yeah, maybe he was rather insensitive, unintentional or not.
The air around them is still, the tension thick. Time ticks by, but to them the world doesn't move. They're suffocated by a silence filled with regret. Maehara desperately wants to reach his arms out and envelop Isogai into a tight hug, but he knows him well enough to know the other will only push him away. Out of anger, out of fear, out of pain.
Fights have never happened between the two of them. They were always too understanding for that. Of course, they had their arguments, avoiding the other out of shame and guilt, before making up like friends do, learning from their mistakes, trying to better themselves. But it rarely happens, and sometimes they forget about the silly disagreements. But this argument isn't as silly as which one of them kills the spider or turns the light off before the monster gets them. They know you can't turn back time, hit rewind and start over. So they wallow in the pond of regret and guilt, distant from one another as they try to sort out their thoughts.
Isogai begins to regret saying his thoughts. Perhaps he should've just accepted the nickname of 'prince charming'. Maybe they wouldn't feel so awkward right now. Maybe he wouldn’t be bawling his eyes out, sobbing like the child he never allowed himself to be. Deep down, he knows it isn't selfish to speak out his feelings, tell the truth of his thoughts, but it feels selfish to him. Almost like he’s begging for help, for some sort of comfort when he thinks he doesn't deserve it. He wants to go back to a time where everything isn’t so complicated, when his mom isn’t ill, and his dad isn’t forever gone. He wants to go back to a time when he wasn’t working a part-time job, when smiling wasn’t such a chore that made his cheeks hurt, and when his wrists weren't sore from carrying trays and plates and cups all day. He never wanted these things to mold him into the person he became today, sculpted and shaved down and crafted into perfection.
Although right now, he isn’t so perfect, breaking down in front of his best friend. His eyes all red and puffy and his tears streaming down and into his mouth, his sleeves stained with snot. His throat is hot and sore and he almost chokes on his cries. In a way, he feels relieved, letting everything out. Allowing himself to feel something, to cry, to feel human. Breaking the carefully sculpted character he chiseled himself, the one that adapted and matured to life all too quickly, the one that hid all his flaws and imperfections behind a wall.
He cries and cries until the tears dry out, and in the end he just feels kind of pathetic. He doesn’t say anything, wiping away the last of his tears. Maehara gently rubs a hand on his back, which Isogai doesn’t bother trying to swat away. He’s just tired.
"I'm sorry, really, I am," Maehara says quietly. He feels really bad but he's mostly mad at himself and he should've just kept his mouth shut but he never learns his lesson. "I know about your situation and I didn’t really take your feelings into account. I just thought that a name like that could help you relax a bit and not worry about being perfect all the time. I was uh, very wrong on that. It's unfair that you have all these responsibilities when you never asked for it in the first place. I acted like it was your fault when it never was to begin with. I didn’t mean to hurt you and I'm. . . really sorry."
Maehara wouldn't be surprised if Isogai never forgave him. He's made a lot of mistakes in the past. Way too many, for his liking. Now that he thinks about it, he's done a lot of things he regrets. Mistakes he can't erase, no matter how hard he tries. But he never really confronted his problems, opting to move on and run away instead.
Isogai takes some time to process Maehara's apology, wiping away his tears. He gazes solemnly at Maehara, his eyes all puffy and glassy, and Maehara's heart breaks. Right, he caused that. Maehara feels really guilty, almost wanting Isogai to be mad at him rather than upset. He repeats the word 'sorry' in his head, over and over again.
"Please never call me that again." Isogai doesn’t really know whether to forgive Maehara or not. If he does, it’ll probably take a while. But the request should be a start, he decides.
"You have my word," Maehara mumbles quietly, stretching out his pinky finger.
Isogai interlocks his pinky finger with Maehara and his lips stretch into the faintest smile. “You better keep it,” he laughs weakly. He almost can't tell if it was genuine or not.
"I will. Promise." Maehara began to trace gentle patterns on the back of Isogai’s hand, something he always did when the other was in need of comfort. "Do you miss being a kid again?" It was a genuine question, no ill intentions.
"A little, yeah," Isogai admits. He almost forgot what it was like to be one. To be carefree, unaware of the harsh realities of the world in front of him. He doesn't really mind it, or at least that's what he tells himself.
Unlike him, Maehara hasn't forgotten, and he wiggles his fingers lightly against Isogai's waist in an attempt to lighten the mood.
Isogai stifles a laugh, before bursting into a fit of giggles. "Wa-wait! Stop- Hiroto stop it!"
“You’re as ticklish as ever.” Maehara says with a smirk, letting his hands fall to his sides.
“And you’re as annoying as ever.”
“Hey!” Maehara lightly punched Isogai’s shoulder. And really, he shouldn’t take offense when he insulted his best friend where it hurts most.
Isogai doubles over with a laughing fit, and Maehara is about to ask why until Isogai quickly composes himself and turns back to face him. On his face is a stupid grin as he wipes away a tear. "I love you though.”
Maehara softly glares at him, lips curving into a half-smile, half-frown. "Hmph. I love you too." He gently caressed Isogai’s cheek with his palm. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his expression softening as he gazed adoringly at Isogai. He truly doesn’t know what he did to deserve Isogai. “Could I. . . hug you again?”
Isogai gives him a nod and Maehara practically bursts with happiness as he tackles the other in a hug, pressing their bodies close together. It’s warm. And feels like home.
“It’s okay to let loose sometimes, y'know. I know you have to work because of money issues and you have to take care of your family and all that but you should take care of yourself too. Don’t push yourself too hard, alright? I care about you a lot. Your health and happiness is just as important as everyone else's.”
Isogai is pleasantly taken aback at Maehara's words, and he can't help but smile. He returns Maehara’s hug, wrapping his arms around the other tightly. It's times like these he's glad to have put up with Maehara all these years, happy to have him in his life. “Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind."

ACCIDENTALLY MAKING THEIR S/O CRY PART 01 [SERIES MASTERLIST]
when a prank they thought was harmless went maybe a bit too far— scratch that it did go too far
𖦹 isogai yuuma, nagisa shiota, karma akabane x gn! reader
𖦹 warning/s : lots of cursing/use of profanity, hurt/comfort, allergic reactions, hospitalization and mentions of it, reader is scared of the doctor in Karma's part, class e lowkey being assholes in Nagisa and Isogai's part, Ignoring prank, Timeskip! Class E in Nagisa's part (everyone is 20+ so no underaged drinking), alcohol consumption, Drunk! Class E on Nagisa's part
𖦹 this was requested by an anon from my old account
KARMA AKABANE
Karma noticed how you never ate eggs. always asking the waitress or waiters to remove the egg if it's added in the food you ordered, not buying egg from the cafeteria. at first he thought it was because you don't like egg being cooked outside so he decided to make lunch for you but he soon came to a conclusion that you really don't like egg when you denied the lunch he gave you, and the thing was you never denied his cooking
so he thought you simply didn't like the taste of egg and being the devilish prankster he is he used this to his advantage and decided to prank you
when you stayed over at his place he cooked a scrambled egg, cut it into small pieces and mixed it with the rice he was going to serve you
he also purposely woke you up early so that you're still tired and half asleep when he serves the food to you
at the first five bites you didn't notice anything until you felt itches around your body, you rubbed your eyes to wake yourself up a bit more but the moment you saw the food in your plate you dropped your spoon with a panicked and shocked expression on your face
"Karma....is there egg in this?" you asked pointing at the food in your mouth, just to make sure
your horrified expression made him burst out in laughter as he nodded "yes! I noticed how you never liked egg so I decided to make you eat one without realizing it and your reaction is justttt priceless!"
"KARMA ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?!" your words caught him off guard as you ran towards the bathroom, he quickly followed you to see you vomiting. he noticed the red spots on your arm and went closer to you
he heard you sniffling making him bite down on his bottom lip "love? I'm sorry. I should've asked you first before pulling anything" guilt clear in his tone
"Karma I— I don't want to go to the doctor again. I'm scared. what if—" he cuts you off by carrying you to his bedroom "shhh, it's alright love. you're not going to the doctor ok? I'm here. I'll help you. I'll take care of you"
ISOGAI YUUMA
well...it wasn't actually Isogai's idea to act as if you weren't his girlfriend/boyfriend as a prank
it was Maehara and Okajima's but was soon passed around as Karma, Rio and Terasaka agreed. although Nagisa said not to they brushed him off with a "they're in class a, take this as revenge for Asano-kun and besides it's just a harmless prank what could possibly happen?" as an excuse
Nagisa knew you weren't like the rest of class a. in fact they were just starting to treat them nicely all thanks to you but his classmates viewed this differently
so the next day Nagisa looked at you with pity in his eyes when Isogai tried his hardest to ignore you. some students were confused as Isogai would always kiss your cheek or lips before going up the hill but today he just ignored you, not even glancing at you
you didn't mind it, brushing it off thinking he's just having a bad day and skipping your way to your own classroom
when lunch arrived, you waited for him in the bottom of the hill. you spent the whole hour of lunch there and ended up falling asleep under the tree
you woke up to Asano softly shaking your sleeping figure, you rubbed your eyes to adjust to the light "hm? Yuu-kun?" a frown formed your lips when you saw Asano
"the asshole went back up to the hill with his friends, they were even laughing at you. fucking jerks" he muttered the last two words under his breath "let's go"
in the end of the day, you walked home alone with tears falling from your eyes.
the next day, when class e entered the hall they received dirty looks from class a. well the looks were pointed at Isogai. some rolled their eyes when they saw them but to everyone's surprise they didn't spit any harsh comments
Isogai was about to walk towards you when the Big Five stopped him "you think we're gonna let your crappy attitude towards her slide?" Ren spat angrily. it wasn't often Ren gets mad but when he found out about how Isogai treated you it quickly wore out his patience (which may I say, is very long)
"why would you even treat her like that? d'ya use her or something?" Seo growled angrily, fists clenching hardly as he stopped himself from doing anything violent
Nagisa immediately joins their conversation "WE'RE SORRY!" he shouts, bowing down "the others pressured Isogai-kun to prank y/n-san. I tried to stop them but they didn't listen. We're very sorry for this childish act! I promise you it won't happen again!"
he motioned class e to bow down to which they did without any complains upon realizing how much it affected you
soon enough everyone got along and agreed to never play pranks like that again. Karma also grew a bit close to you as he apologized and joked around to try and ease you up which worked although Isogai got a bit jelly from how close you and Karma got, he warned Karma to not get too handsy with you
NAGISA SHIOTA
it was a dare that was given to him during Class E's small reunion. if he was sober he'd disagree but if he's drunk now that's a whole different story
it all started with a small game of truth or dare, at first it was small harmless and funny pranks but the longer they played the harder and risky the pranks got, soon enough everyone was too drunk to know what they're doing. "tell your significant other you're breaking up with them as a prank" a obviously drunk Maehara says
Nagisa chuckled and nodded replying with a "aight, they'll know it's a prank anyways. they know i treasure them too much for me to break up with them but let's try" wobbly takes his phone from his pocket. he smiles when he saw that he had 20 missed calls from you and 50+ unread messages.
and as if on cue your caller id popped up in the screen to which he answered almost immediately and put you on speaker for everyone to hear "NAGI! Thank lord you answered! are you still with your friends? are you coming home tonight or are you staying at Karma's? are-" he soon cuts you off, drunkenly saying "I'm breaking up with you" which came of as nonchalant
it was silent in your end for a while "what?" your voice was shaking as he and the others tried not to laugh, you can clearly hear the music blasting in the background which overpowered their muffled giggles "Nagi are you at a bar? are you drunk? do you-"
"I said I'm breaking up with you" he says once more, the moment he hears you sob he couldn't help but let out a loud laugh along with the others "I'm sorry baby, it was all a dare!" he wasn't able to finish his sentence when you hung up and blocked his number
his eyebrows raised "oh? they blocked me" Karma laughs "aight, let's get you home and apologize to your bae" the red haired devil says and guided Nagisa up. they waved goodbyes before walking to the parking lot
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Nagisa woke up with a throbbing headache. he looks around and realized that he's in your living room, his head turns upon hearing the sound of a door opening
"oh. you're up. uhh- Karma brought you here. drink that water" you pointed at the glass in the coffee table "and I'm leaving to live with my parents for a while before I get a new apartment. the place is yours now"
confusion painted his face "leaving?" he quickly got up and blocked your way "woah woah woah- leaving? come on baby tell me what happened. did I do something wrong? did I fuck up? did-" you cut him off "you broke up with me last night"
"WHAT?! I'M SORRY, BABY! I SWEAR I DIDN'T MEAN TO. I WAS DRUNK AND MAEHARA- or was it Okajima? I CAN'T REMEMBER! BUT ONE OF THEM DARED ME TO BREAK UP WITH YOU AS A PRANK, I SWEAR I DIDN'T MEAN ANY OF IT!" he panicked and tried to hug you but you backed away
"how much did you earn?" you ask "huh?" he tilted his head to the side in confusion "you said it was all a dare. you dating me, you breaking up with me. those two were dares? you dated me for a dare but fell in love so your asshole of a 'friend' dared you to break up with me is that it?" you growled angrily
"NO! no- you got it all wrong my precious, I would never date you as a dare! I dated you because I'm in love with you ok?" he hugs you and this time you didn't back away
"I'm sorry. I was drunk and stupid" he murmurs against your neck "real stupid babe" you say, inhaling his scent "i love you" he kissed your forehead "love you too"

AssClass Rewrite: How Kaho should’ve been portrayed instead
I’m just transferring what I’ve proposed in the discord server to here for easy access UwU.
I hate how Matsui oversimplified Kaho’s character until she’s literally being portrayed as Maehara’s overly unsophisticated bitch ex-girlfriend and left her like that, implying that it’s okay for fans to put her under the same level of being horrible as Seo.
Haha how about NO?
With all the red flags that are just plain obvious throughout Kaho and Seo’s interaction in the chapter, Matsui had the chance to write her as the unfortunate girlfriend of the school’s rudest student. But noooo, he just went “it’s too complicated so let’s just end it like that” and it’s pissing me off smh
So, here’s my take on her character UwU:
Kaho is like the BIGGEST SIMP for all the Ikemen in school, and she will go out her way to get close to them, even asking them out (Zaina and I headcanoned that she’s from the Tennis club, but only because Isogai was also a member and she didn’t think that the club is separated by gender lmao). She’s basically Ikemen crazy, a pursuer, and does all the chasing.
If that’s the case then, how did she ended up dating Seo, of all people, with his ugly rude shitty ass self being the opposite of what the traditional Ikemen is?
Let me add a defining personality trait of hers then: Kaho is very un-confrontational.
Because of this certain trait of hers, she couldn’t say “No” when Seo asked her out, especially since the guy has a really good reputation at school as a virtuoso and for his “exceptional” (yeah right) English skills, that his family is said to be stinking rich, and that his outrageous personality in general makes everyone in school uncomfortable.
As Zaina, who is @dreaming-of-assclass, have pointed out in her tea spill post about Seo, there is an obvious power imbalance between the two, that it’s beyond uncomfortable to think about what could’ve happened to Kaho had she rejected him when he asked her out, broken up with him when she had enough, or especially had she got caught cheating on him behind his back. Paired that with my take of Kaho being un-confrontational, she’s literally trapped and it’s heartbreaking.
Her crush on Maehara is definitely genuine, from what we’ve seen in the chapter of how happy they are together and the fact that Maehara is very popular with girls in school pre Class E and is considered as an Ikemen, brushing aside his “fast-dating” trait.
Background and background:
When Kaho and Seo first started dating, she briefly stopped her pursuing habits, but then suddenly went back to it after seeing more of how shitty Seo really is in general (As previously mentioned, she couldn’t just call the relationship off, considering Seo’s reputation in school and how much power he has in the relationship along with how un-confrontational Kaho is). So, I’m gonna assume here for a bit. Kaho “unofficially” broke up with him, by keeping a distance from him until they, hopefully that is, drifted apart that they’re no longer together without the need of an actual declaration of breaking up or something.
So by that logic, to Kaho, it’s now okay to go after other guys since she already “unofficially broken up” with Seo. Then we have Maehara: handsome, athletic, fun, good personality, and very popular among junior high school girls in Kunugigaoka town. Despite his fast-dating playboy trait, he’s considered by many as an Ikemen. Kaho loves Ikemen, especially the very good-looking ones. So after him she goes lmao. Of course, with your girl being both a simp and a pursuer, she’s the one who asked him out. And Maehara, being your everyday fast-dating playboy, of course, said yes.
Now we have the retaliation chapter:
Kaho and Maehara might have been dating for a few weeks at this point, considering that Maehara knows of her daily schedule and how she commutes to school. They’re chill with each other and just happy together. All good.
Then Seo showed up.
With all the points I’ve stated earlier about their power imbalance, with Kaho being un-confrontational, she’s beyond panicking at this point for getting caught. (Let’s be real, Maehara kind of made things worse by pointing out the sudden change in her schedule as of lately. Important point: I’ll address this too shortly).
Cue the big mistake she had made that day: using Maehara as a scapegoat just so that she wouldn’t have to deal with facing Seo’s wrath, especially with how horrible his temper was. Yes, it’s wrong for her to do that, but you can’t exactly hate her for it since poor girl is beyond scared, that she had to do it.
To quote what Zaina and I have discussed months ago, about the café scene:
Fumiko – “I’ve also noticed something in the retaliation chapter. It’s only Seo who actually insults disguised Kayano and Nagisa. Kaho was more like, reprimanding them angrily rather than explicitly insulting them. And when they were talking about what happened with Maehara, it was Seo who was carrying the whole. Kaho was more of “I know right?!” rather than expressing her thoughts.”
Zaina – “EXACTLY!! It’s so clear that he’s the way ruder one!!! And she’s just going along with things to please him.”
Fumiko – “She even looked scared when Seo asked her if she had previously brought other people with her to the café. If 3E were that empathetic enough, surely the recon team would realize the way Kaho was just trying to go along with Seo’s rudeness to please him.”
Zaina – “I feel like in canon, none of 3-E was thinking very straight, or open-minded like they usually do. Because of Maehara’s humiliation and the direct insults towards them, it felt personal and they didn’t want to see it any other way. This was unfortunately exemplified by Koro’s encouragement. He really wasn’t a good role model at all for supporting this. Because you’re right: how did none of the recon team, or anyone notice how the two interacted?? How scared and stressed Kaho looked?? Especially Nagisa, who specializes in reading people and is sitting right across them??”
The last point made a lot of sense. We should really make Nagisa notice Kaho’s obvious cry for help, and even Kayano too for how obvious Kaho was faking it to Seo.
So now, we have the whole revenge thing:
Zaina – “You know, the revenge that 3E got on Seo and Kaho was super harsh. But it’s even more messed up when you remember that Koro encouraged and helped planned it.”
Fumiko – “I don’t like how they managed to get away with that with little to no witnesses. The lasy who asked the three to cut the branches should’ve noticed that large branches fell on two kids in front of her.”
Zaina – “The problem with AssClass is that they never acknowledge the consequences of their actions ever, which makes it hard to be realistic sometimes.”
Fumiko – “Another thing I don’t like about the retaliation chapter was that Kaho and Seo thought it was just a very unlucky day for them. No one else knew that 3E did all that shit. They literally got away with it with 0 consequences.”
So here’s how I think 3E should face the consequences of their actions in this chapter, which involves adding the scene of where Seo shoved Kaho just to get inside the restroom from the farther convenience store, it may have not been explicitly shown in the manga, but it was implied.
Until we get to Nagisa and Kayano noticing the huge red flags in the café, to 3E initially, both Kaho and Seo are equally in the wrong and deserve the same punishment. All the canon process in the revenge can still remain here, if y’all fine with that. After noticing the red flags and witnessing Seo shoving Kaho out of the way, wouldn’t it be best if they started to reflect on their actions from that moment? Like “did we go too far? Is she really that bad as we all initially thought? Was this even the right thing to do in the first place?”
It’s also a good chance for them to reflect on the fact that Koro encouraged all of this and is one of the most involved in planning, considering the fact that he is still a teacher, and he literally encouraged them to humiliate two kids in public. At the same time, even Koro might reflect on what he teaches them.
Also, Zaina pointed out that Maeheara literally did not learn anything from this in the end and just went back to his fast-dating habits like the whole thing never happened in the first place.
So let me addressed what I’ve mentioned earlier, then.
Maehara and Kaho dated for quite a while if he already knew about her daily routine, and it’s showing that they really do like each other and enjoy each other’s company. No bad blood whatsoever. So after finding out that Kaho is dating him behind Seo’s back, also known as the rudest student in school with such a horrible temper, don’t you guys think it was a very bad dick move of him to expose Kaho, the very girl who he was just having a great time with, just like that while it’s beyond obvious at how scared she was of Seo and is trying to save herself from getting in big trouble? Couldn’t he just have helped her with making her excuses more believable so that both of them could get out of trouble?? He’s good at talking, so he can definitely make it work. So why did he choose the option where either him or Kaho could the brunt of it, when it obvious that he’s gonna take it considering he’s from Class E?
We’re also definitely gonna make him learn something out of this in the end smh.
And that’s the end of my long ass essay UwU

Policing His Heart
Pairing: Sugino x Nagisa
This is loosely based off of the TV Show ‘ Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries ‘, which is now honestly my favourite show. Like I am only four episodes in and I am literally in love with every single character and Miss Fisher and Detective Inspector Robinson is literally Irina x Karasuma if they lived in the 1920s. And yes, I know that back then boy x boy was a crime (actually the episode that I took inspiration from is about how one of the suspects was man that’s in a relationship with his male best friend and the murder victim had evidence of it - but he didn’t go to jail because he was protected by Miss Fisher and the Detective Inspector when they got rid of the evidence) but let’s just pretend that people aren’t stupid and the world didn’t suck, okay
“So do you have any possible suspects, Miss?” Nagisa asked as he entered Irina’s lavish bedroom with a tray filled with plates, slices of toast and a variety of jams. The woman of the house herself was exquisitely reclining on the gold silk sheets of her queen sized bed, her scarlet robe flowing around her like she was a goddess as she continued to read the newspaper article that detailed yesterday’s murder.
“Oh you know, the usual,” Irina supplied to her companion, setting the paper down on her lap, vengeful wife, greedy children, business enemies. The first people that come to mind when a wealthy charmer has been killed.”
“Did Mr Willis have many enemies?” the blunette inquired as he handed the breakfast tray to the blonde.
“A man of his reputation always has many enemies. It’s figuring out which one is daring enough to stab him which is the issue. Oh, come here, Nagisa, sit next to me” Irina called, patting the space on the duvet beside her.
“Yes, Miss,” Nagisa nodded and made his way around the bed so that he could sit by her side, making sure that he doesn’t crumple her garments. Irina made a pleased sound and she picked up a slice of toast and a butter knife with her manicured hands, deftly spreading on some strawberry jam before handing it to the boy.
“I think I’m going to have a word with Mr Thompson today,” the woman mused, “he was at the party yesterday and I’ve got a feeling that he has more information than he’s letting on.”
“Mr Thompson,” Nagisa inquired, “Clark Thompson? But he seemed so nice during last week’s party at the Robinson’s. I would hardly consider him someone that would kill.”
“Ahh, Nagisa, everyone is capable of murder when they are backed into a corner, and given Mr Willis’ business in blackmail I wouldn’t strike anyone at the party off of the list of possible suspects.”
“You seem to have few ideas on what to do, Miss,” Nagisa observed, “Is there anything you wish for me to do here in the house once you are out?”
“Nothing much, just make sure that the laundry is done and you can spend the rest of the day doing what you want. Although I may require for you to stay here in case I need to call on you. Oh that reminds me,” Irina chimed, a slight smirk forming at the corner of her crimson mouth, “I was having a word with Tadaomi at the crime scene yesterday.”
“And,” Nagisa said, because he felt as if she was silently goading him to ask, “what did Detective Inspector Karasuma say?”
“Well, apparently Constable Sugino wishes to ask you to the Fireman and Policeman’s ball.”
Nagisa choked on his mouthful of toast, sending stray crumbs onto his plain woolen brown waistcoat, “me?!”
‘Why yes,” she smiled innocently, taking her own bite of toast, “I don’t find it surprising. Our dear constable is very clearly taken with you.”
Nagisa blushed, looking down, “Oh, I wish you would stop teasing me, Miss.”
“I’m a detective, darling. It’s my job to observe people and gather information.”
“I’d much rather you do your detective work on your cases and not on me though. Anyhow, if he truly wishes to ask me, he’s cutting it awfully close - the ball is in two days.”
“Oh the poor man is simply nervous,” Irina waved him off, “give him time, he’ll surely come around. Now come on, I’ve got a suspect to visit.”
…..
When Nagisa walked into the Police Station to deliver his basket of baked treats to Irina, he stopped dead in his tracks when he caught sight of the ebony-haired policeman behind a camera. He was currently taking photographs of his employer, who seemed to have the time of her life by posing like a film actress, flaunting her figure with every click and shutter.
“Miss Jelavic,” Constable Sugino said with amusement, “I must ask you to keep still.”
“Oh darling,” she winked, “I never stay still.”
Nagisa cleared his throat, causing both the policeman and Irina to swivel their heads towards her, Irina grinned as Nagisa tightened his hold on the basket. Sugino’s eyes widened and his cheeks started to blossom with a faint rosy hue, almost dropping the camera if it weren’t for the fact that it was on a stand.
“I brought your lunch, Miss,” he informed the blonde woman. He turned to the smiled nervously, “good afternoon, Constable Sugino” - he nodded at the tall, no-nonsense policeman that stood at the doorway of the office - “Detective Inspector Karasuma.”
“Good-good afternoon, Nagisa,” Sugino stuttered, giving his own embarrassed smile, “I hope you’re well.”
Karasuma gave his own greeting before asking Irina, “you ordered lunch.”
“Why yes I did.”
“You said that the call was for an emergency.”
“Yes, I’m hungry.”
Karasuma gave an exasperated sigh as Irina took the basket from her companion.
“Excuse me,” Nagisa said, “I don’t mean to intrude but what was going on earlier?”
“I happened to catch Miss Jelavic in the act of breaking and entering,” Karasuma answered with irritation.
“It’s not breaking and entering if the window was already open,” Irina waved him off, “now why don’t you and I have a talk in your office about what was in that folder. You can have a piece of Nagisa’s apple pie, it’s to die for.”
Nagisa watched as Irina dragged Karasuma into his office, shutting the door behind them, before his eyes found themselves wandering towards Sugino only to find that the Constable was already looking at him. The two of them stared at each other for a second before retracting their gazes, cheeks blazing.
“So,” Sugino started.
“Yes, Sugino,” Nagisa smiled at him.
“I-uh-well, you-uh- see,” he was ringing his hands, as if he was mustering up the courage to ask Nagisa something homogeneously of Oliver Twist asking for more, “the thing is, Nagisa, there’s something I’ve got to tell you.”
“Yes,” Nagisa urged.
“I-I, I hope that,” Sugino looked straight into his eyes and his expression faltered, “I hope that you could-could-haveaniceday.”
The brunette blinked at the plastered smile that the navy-eyed man threw on after rushing out the last part of his sentence, something in his heart falling. He gave his own smile at Sugino, “thank you, Constable Sugino. I hope that you do too.”
….
“So, did you ask him?”
“No, Sir, I lost my nerve at the last second.”
“For heaven's sake, Constable, it’s a dance not a marriage proposal.”
“I know, I know.”
…..
“Oh,” Nagisa cried as he continued to pace the study, “I do hope that she’s alright.”
“Don’t worry Nagisa,” Taisei Yoshida said from where he was leaning against the study’s doorway with his arms crossed, “I’m sure that Miss is alright.”
“But it’s been an hour since she’s left to find the murderer,” Nagsa argued, hands flying everywhere, “she could be in danger. I hate not knowing how she is, I couldn’t even finish darning the pillowcases with how much my hands are shaking.”
“Why don’t I get you some tea,” Irina’s butler, Yuuma Isogai, offered kindly, “it would help calm your nerves.”
“Well, I don’t know about tea,” Ryouma Terasaka grumbled, “But I could use a drink. I still don’t see why she didn’t bring us with her - we always help her out!”
“Could you get us some cups of tea and a bottle of whisky please, Yuuma,” Taisei asked.
“Certainly.”
When Isogai left, Taisei turned to the still panicking Nagisa, “Calm down, Nagisa. You know Miss Jelavic. That woman is strong enough to handle herself even if she wasn’t accompanied by that Detective. She carries around a golden revolver at all times for crying out loud. Or are you worrying because it’s not just Miss that has left but also the Detective Inspector’s right hand man.”
“Huh, who?” Terasaka asked as Nagisa paused and blushed, gulping and looking down.
“Constable Tomohito Sugino,” Taisei enunciated with a sly grin, “the chap that helped us during the Asano case. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that he seems to be quite taken with our Nagisa.”
“It’s not like that,” Nagisa mumbled, face still red, “we’re just acquaintances.”
“I see,” Taisei smirked, sharing a look with Ryouma, “well, I know just what to take your mind out of this. Let me tell you what I heard from Taiga Okajima at the pub-”
He was cut off by the doorbell and heavy knocking at the door. Isogai’s voice could be heard saying, “Good evening, Miss, Detective Inspector.”
Nagisa gasped and rushed to the door, breathing out, “Miss, you’ve returned!”
Irina smirked, “Of course I have.”
“So you’ve caught him?”
“What do you expect? Now if you gentlemen don’t mind me, I am going to have a nice warm bath.”
As Irina sauntered up the stairs, the ends of her white fur stole swaying in tandem, Nagisa turned towards the two policemen at the door. After exchanging a glance with his subordinate, Detective Inspector Karasuma nodded at him, “I’ll be taking my leave then.”
Only Nagisa and Sugino were left at the entrance. Sugino looked at the shorter boy and opened his mouth, about to say something when Nagisa spoe instead,
“Are you alright? Did the murderer hurt you?”
“Wha-,” Sugino’s eyes widened, “no, no. Fortunately I am unharmed.”
“That’s good,” Nagisa smiled, “I was so worried. I-”
“Will you accompany me to the policemen and firemen’s ball?”
Silence descended onto the duo as Sugino’s blurted out words registered in Nagisa’s head. Nagisa inhaled deeply, staring intently at the Constable before him, the same Constable whose name would make him feel something in his soul like no other word could, whose face shined with nothing but kindness and soft care that made his day brighten in ways he couldn’t describe.
“Yes,” he breathed, feeling breathless and giddy, “I would love to.”
“Oh,” Sugino stated plainly, taken aback. He said nothing for a moment, his face had yet to lose its rosy hue, but then a shaky, exuberant smile made its way onto his mouth, “alright then. I’ll pick you up at ten?”
“That works for me.”
“Wonderful.”
…..
Later that week, Sugino extended the crook of his elbow towards Nagisa. The blue-haired boy smiled, remembering the star-struck look the policeman wore when he saw him wearing his raven black tuxedo (perfectly tailored by one of Irina’s friends - “almost too perfectly,” Irina herself had quipped). Nagisa interlocked his own arm through and together they walked into the ballroom.
