The Time I Spontaneously Hugged Lindir Because He Was So Shiny

Or, the time I met Bret McKenzie after a Flight of the Conchords show, and he was absolutely lovely.

We all know actor and Oscar winning songwriter/musician Bret McKenzie as the beloved, fandom-monikered Figwit from FOTR and ROTK, and Elrond's long-suffering, ball-of-anxiety PA Lindir in The Hobbit trilogy. Among his myriad other projects, Bret has been performing alongside Jemaine Clement as the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords* for over 25 years now.

The Flight of the Conchords came into my life at a time when I most needed them, as I was mired in grief following a devastating loss. This completely absurd, hilarious but ultimately very sweet television show was my lifeline back to the land of the living. It gave me the much needed catharis of full on laugh-crying so hard I couldn't speak laughter, and something to look forward to on so many days when even getting out of bed seemed insurmountable.

The following spring I was blessed with the opportunity to see them perform live, and the show was everything I had hoped for and more. After the show, I met up with some online fan friends and waited to see if Bret and Jemaine would come out to chat, as they were known to do. Between the excitement of the show and the mutually shared fandom squee, coupled with the andrenaline that was keeping me from completely crashing after a day of travelling, walking the hills of the San Franciso Bay Area, and of course, the show itself, my mental status may have been a tiny bit altered, which, in my defense, is important to note.

Bret was the first to come out and approach the fans. I did not have the presence of mind or even the time to explain how much his work had meant to me. Instead, I simply told him how much I had enjoyed the show that night and I thanked him. And then the stars shone: this tall, beautiful ✨️Actual Tolkien Elf✨️ crouched down, and with a beautiful smile and gentle Kiwi accent, told me he was glad I liked the show, and thanked me for coming. He was so radiant in that moment--eyes sparkling, smile dazzling, flecks of glitter in his dark velvet jacket--that I ... spontaneously hugged him. The image would be funnier if you knew me in real life; as I am quite reserved and shy, this was completely and wildly out of character for me. In retrospect I am glad I didn't spook him by my unscripted display of physical affection. Instead, he graciously hugged me back, and for a brief transcendant moment, it was like I had touched the stars of Varda herself.

(Granted, he looked a little more like this, but no less beautiful, in large part due to the genuine kindness in his eyes and smile. Seriously he was just so gracious and humble and kind--I can't get over the fact he actually bent down to speak with me and thanked me for coming to the show).

I do feel obligated to share the following, because although it's far from my favorite song of theirs, it is a pretty funny PJ trilogy parody which is made all the funnier given Bret's experience with the PJ Tolkien-verse and fandom.

killian sounded like he had a sore throat, but he was still very good, a sweet but determined valjean, expecially at the evening show

bradley's javert is still wild, but vocally i think he's been working on his control and modulation a lot, there were a lot more quiet and nuanced moments and i loved it, i hope he continues like this

but yeah he remains unhinged and does things like grab one one of the students by the shirt and spit "shoot me now or shoot me later" right in his face

he also lunged at valjean at the end of "we meet again", but killian just held him back and quietly said "no. no. go."🫠

and before that he raised voice at "yes, valjean", so killian shushed him, and he very sarcastically whispered "you want a deal"

nathania ong too, her on my own was so clear at the matinée, the silence during the pause was so complete you could tell the whole audience was right there with her

caleb botched a couple of notes, but his empty chairs delivered (his voice cracked at "sacrifice" during the evening show and it hurt me)

also for those few that, like me, love adam robert lewis: he was there. he sounds absolutely lovely. i'm almost positive he covered combeferre which i don't think he's really supposed to do?? maybe there's some sickness going around the company

a part of me wishes he'll cover javert next week when i'll see them again in milan

james's enjolras is STRESSED. he delivered "do we have the guns we need?" massaging his temples, like "god help me i'm surrounded by children..." - but he's also hopeful. he has some hesitations and insecurities (he seemed almost angry at himself for trusting javert, and thanked gavroche with a couple pats on the shoulder), but he truly thinks they can do it

(he's also VERY pretty up close. i met him. he smiled at me. i'm totally fine.)

raymond's grantaire remains lovely

obligatory exr notes: james sarcastically clapped along with the others after the "opera" line. then in drink with me he steps up to tell grantaire "enough!" as he sings his verse, but he turns and delivers "just one more lie?" to his face, which seems to genuinely trouble him for a moment

on to the heartbreaking things: in the final battle, grantaire gets shot with dead gavroche in his arms </3

killian booped little cosette on the nose, and did it again in the finale </3

in the evening show right before the suicide bradley sort of ushered valjean and marius out saying "go, go, go" </3

the bishop entered at the end, reached valjean and tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention as he'd done in the prologue, and they hugged </3

the audience was super enthusiastic and there was a standing ovation at the end of both shows. at the evening one before leaving killian stepped forward and raised his arms, like a conductor, then laughed when everyone whooed even harder

This was interesting, because I had to go with my gut feeling in the moment, but I reckon the contents of this list could easily change at any given time depending on my mood.

1) Revival

Summary: Loki and Mobius take what amounts to a vacation, whilst Loki recovers from his harrowing experience of babysitting the multiverse.

This began as a single-chapter ficlet to fill an ask game prompt. Later, I decided to revisit this version of Loki and Mobius to fill a bingo prompt in ch 2, then a random computer-generated prompt I had in my ideas doc for a 3rd and final chapter. Apart from a little Loki-whump in ch 2, it’s generally a sweet, soft and cozy pre-romance, and very cathartic to write.

2) Within

Summary: Loki and Mobius are marooned on a volcanic nightmare of a world, their survival depending solely on Loki's tenacity.

Part of my ‘Patience-verse’ series, this fic contains some of my favourite tropes, such as ‘trapped together in danger’, ‘magical drain/depletion’ and ‘the power of love’. Also a little twist of UST/URT — gummy bear feeding, my beloved! 😆

3) Sleepless

Summary: Mobius and Loki get stuck in a broken elevator for hours, and as a result Mobius discovers what's been bothering the object of his (as yet unspoken) affection.

Also a part of ‘Patience-verse’, and it’s such a trope-y scenario, you’ve gotta love it. I mean, that was the whole point of the original fic that spawned this series, after all. Basically, my reason for choosing this is not just because I’m absolutely feral for exhausted!Loki and sleepy cuddles, but also because I can’t believe I was able to write 3k+ words about Lokius in a lift. 🤷‍♀️

4) Apokruptein

Summary: A curiosity on an unknown world hurtles Loki and Mobius into peril.

A double bingo prompt-fill for ‘Forest’ and ‘Cursed object/artefact’. This 4-chapter fic is not really my best writing, but it’s the only time so far I’ve gone all-out with a full on adventure style fic, with a little worldbuilding/backstory, a lot of whump, and the lovely trope ‘temporary amnesia’ to boot. I worked really hard on the conception of this one, and I’m pretty proud of it.

5) I’ve lumped together two ficlets for my #5 spot, because they’re both similar in that they are absolutely NOT anything near what I would usually write.

a) Sit Tempus

Summary: Furnishing their new apartment, the last thing on Loki and Mobius’ list is a decent couch.

An idea that popped into my head during a boring drive home… and I wrote, edited and posted the whole thing in one night. 😏 My only ‘established relationship’ fic to date (watch this space.. 👀), although nothing remotely spicy, I should add. Just pure cute fluff, and a very vague S2 fix-it.

b) Unexpectedly You

Summary: A kindness from Loki for a mutual friend causes Mobius to have a ‘Moment’.

Terrible summary, but it’s another little ask game prompt fill, so nothing much happens in it at all. A lot of people seemed to like this one, which kinda made me like it more too. 🤣 It’s simply Loki being a sweetheart, and Mobius being proud of him. 🥹

I also wanted to add two honourable mentions for Reach (Loki/Star Wars crossover) and Reset (Loki/Red Dwarf crossover). I never in a million years thought I’d be capable of writing ONE passable crossover fic, let alone two… so the fact I managed it makes me super proud, even if they’re ludicrously niche.

used some ideas I’ve had recently for my own oc’s that I wanted to transfer into yours verse lestappen 

Before they can get to the hotel, away from the teams and the media and the prying eyes of the paddock, max can’t do much more than a gentle kiss on the cheek in the corner of the room or a squeeze of Charles’ hand. The weekend had been testing both of their nerves as it was, especially Charles, mostly Charles, and the disqualification was the final nail in the coffin. Max can see the ire and the pain and the absolute exhaustion on his boyfriends face and all he can do is watch. 

Maybe they finally get to the hotel and Charles is quiet, they go to shower together, taking comfort in the motions of soaping and conditioning. Charles says he’s too tired to do much more than food and cuddling on the sofa, and so fucking desperate to help max nods his head despite the niggling feeling his baby needs more. Sets up food, gets them settled to a show they’ve been meaning to watch, cuddled together with Charles curled around max. Max feel Charles relax bit by bit, giving his knuckles kisses and stroking his forearms, but he can still feel a line of tension through Charles’ body. After a while max can feel Charles’ hips moving ever so so slightly, crotch lightly bucking up into max’s arse, seemingly without even realising he’s doing it. 

Insert a back and forth conversation that ends with Charles laying on the hotel bed with max kneeling on top of him, knees either side of his hips, neck baring and hands behind his back. white (important :)) boxers the only thing left on him. Normally max holds pretences, doesn’t like to be too easy, but right now, Charles deserves something good. He wants to be that something good. 

Charles is fucking enamoured. Raking his eyes over every inch of his man in front of him. Taking what’s being given to him on a platter. Starting with indulgently playing and palming at max’s tits, thumbing his nipples and watching as the flesh dimples under his fingers like a marble statue of Venus. Waiting for max to get hazier and hazier, whining becoming more and more consistent and face flushed bright pinky red. Lets himself take control, distract himself from everything, allowing himself to have what is right in front of him, and only that. Gets max to put on a show, saying that max can only get off the first time on his thighs, grinding and moaning and panting as he continues, Charles still smoothing his hands over his stomach and hips. Max is fucking burning in sweet hot embarrassment, wants almost to object, to brat and bitch and moan but the overwhelming desire to helpcharles begood keeping him steady. Eventually as the frustrated tears prick at his eyes Charles gives him a cupped hand over his cock to rut into, only coming at Charles’ world. Because hes good. So so good. Charles tells him as much, over and over, so overwhelmed that this is his. Watching max come in his boxers, wet patch obscene and oh so hot, pecs moving softly with every movement. Max letting out ‘ah ah ahs’ as Charles grinds himself up into max while still touching him, kissing him hard and filthily with spit and tongue and so much care. Coming into his own boxers with a near cry that has his brain reeling and max twitching again already. 

Evening probably eventually ending in a lazy hazy loving fuck, followed by tender aftercare <3

She almost becomes this 2nd mother to him. And she's absolutely fine with that! Even getting a little protective when she sees Alessio playfully messing around with her sweet boy! Wrapping her fuzzy wings around him as they turn a orange red as a warning to Alessio!

(I based this idea off of Mothra from Godzilla KOTM and Godzilla x Kong The New Empire! Mothra's design is based on a Moth and a Praying Mantis, and I thought of sweet lil Rishen 🥺 and I thought it'd be super cute for them to have this figure in their life who's willing to help them, even if they are a goddess!)

“where are we going?” rishen hums. the tilt to his head makes your fingers itch to pet at his newly sprouted antenna, and so you do. the softness in your gaze returns as you set him atop one of the many nature-adorned buildings.

“silk training.”

“thought I finished with that for the week?”

his smile has you sighing. your wings tuck behind your tall figure in defeat and your gaze instead casts to the busy city life below. what a blessing of technology and nature. you are impressed by their harmony.

“alessio is nice,” rishen assures. “a bit of a troublemaker. . . but he loves me. and I love him.”

what more can you do but bring a hand to ruffle at his hair. your long, feathery lashes droop along with the corners of your lips.

“I am aware. yet I still view you as a little larvae. . .”

he is more than ready to nuzzle his fluff head of hair into your hand. the flutter of his wings reminds you that he is all grown up. your dear little bug.

Just imagine a crossover fic with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Moon Knight...

Imagine you are Miguel O'Hara's most beloved and he tragically loses you. Despite this being a "canon event", he's never been able to get over your death.

Imagine he knows that he can't have another you from another universe, for doing so would cause a major disruption throughout the multiverse.

But then imagine he finds another version of you...only you're not in the spider-verse, but a completely different universe. And, lo and behold, he finds out that he can come to your universe without any repercussions to his own.

Imagine he throws all cares away and travels to your universe to find you, to be with you, only to see that you are already taken by a mysterious vigilante known as Moon Knight who also looks exactly like him.

Imagine that he's so desperate, so in love, to ever let you go--again. And so he sets his sights on you, determined on doing anything and everything in his power to have you, make you his just as much as he is yours in every universe.

Imagine Steven, Marc, and Jake absolutely not having any of this weird spider creep's bullshit, as the three of them battle it out with Miguel for all that you are--heart, mind, soul, and your sweet, addictive body.

It bums me that the Sonic VAs got nothing for the Sonic movie. At least the Mario one gave Charles Martinet something to do even if they're side characters. Mike Pollock has been voicing Eggman since Shadow the Hedgehog and he got Jack. Same with Smith and Griffith. Could have at least had Knuckles dad be played by Dan Green or Travis Willingham or something (note I love Christopher Lloyd)

Oh trust me, my friend, I am right there with you. It gets worse with the addition of Tails. He is still voiced by his og actress, Colleen O'Shaughnessey. And let me tell you right now, the difference in talent and competency when you put Tails and Ben Schwartz into the same scene together is night and day. (Here's their literal first scene together to prove it.)

(And to anyone who thinks I'm giving Mr. Schwartz a hard time... i mean, fair enough. I am. But you can't tell me he has given ANYTHING to Sonic that he didn't already do in DuckTales (2017) as Dewey Duck, and as Jean-Ralphio Saperstein before the both of them in Parks &. Recreation, which is the entire point of why I viscerally dislike him as a voice actor very specifically. It'd be fine if he stayed in his lane, you know, as a comedian, but he didn't, so he's getting my full criticism. Especially where Sonic is concerned.)

Jason Griffith most likely would have been pleased to come back to Sonic. I mean he voice acted for the guy for seven years and is HIGHLY beloved by the Sonic fandom to this day. Especially for his work on SonicX. Roger Craig Smith is IMMENSELY talented and has been voicing Sonic for over ten years now, and is so good at his job that he is STILL voicing Sonic despite the franchise's setbacks and his own announcement of leaving the role. Because he's good at it and he's passionate about it. (I personally love RCS more than Jason. Not that Jason is bad by any means but RCS is underrated imo.)

I'm not as well versed in this, but there's ALSO the fact that Knuckles' voice actors didn't get hired to voice the echidna either. They hired Idris Elba, and some people were saying was going to be fantastic in the role, and you know what? In my opinion, he sucked. He absolutely bombed it. And I say that knowing how well he does on screen in an acting role because I have watched him play Heimdall for 10+ years. He HAS talent, but is NOT a voice actor. And he certainly is not a good fit for Knuckles the Echidna. He didn't even come anywhere close to emulating Knuckles' voice.

And then you get the argument of "oh but the voices don't have to be the same" — my sweet summer children... The joy of voice acting and animated characters is that it DOES all come down to the voice and the voice matches the character design. The voice is the ENTIRE SELLING POINT. You don't get the voice right, then the entire acting fails and no animation talent can save it. It sucks but it's true. (As someone who had to struggle to find a fitting voice for my thesis' film's main villain this is such a priority that people overlook. Good enough isn't good at all.)

Honestly though, the real kicker here is that the Sonic franchise should never have been a "live action" film at all. I loathe "live action remakes" of animated films no matter what they are. I especially hate CGI/live action fusions that make that the selling point when Roger Rabbit proved that it can be done much better with 2D/hand-drawn animation. (To a lesser extent: compare the og. Space Jam with the remake, or even Space Jam with the og Smurfs. The quality difference all these years past is not even comparable.)

Also, it's not even a "live action remake", because, spoiler alert, the characters are still animated and no amount of life-like special effects will change that.

Hollywood (and America as a whole) needs to quit disrespecting animation and calling it "for kids" when it is a medium. It always has been.

omg hi Sofie!! :0 Get ready because I have a whole lot to say about this.

Most Beloved:

Number 1: Squirtle

My absolute favorite is squirtle. What's funny about this is I can't really pinpoint a specific reason why I like him so much. My first pokemon game was alpha sapphire, and I didn't play gen 1 until Let's Go Eevee, so it's not a nostalgia factor. I think my brain just subconsciously selected him back when I was watching the Indigo League anime in middle school. The squirtle squad showed up and my brain was like "Yeah. This guy. He's awesome. This is the one." And he has been my number 1 favorite fella ever since then, and as a consequence he is the pokemon I have the most merch of and it isn't really close.

Please keep in mind this is just what I have in my apartment where I live for college, and that I have even more stuff in my bedroom back at home. Now that I think about it, Koopa Troopa is my favorite mario character, so maybe I have an affinity for characters that are just little turtles. Either way, water is also my favorite type, which means even more bonus points for squirtle.

Number 2: Riolu

Riolu's high ranking has been somewhat of a recent development for me. I've always liked lucario, but I didn't see the light that was riolu until after I watched Pokemon Journeys. Ash's riolu was so silly and adorable, and I always felt so bubbly inside when he was on screen. This shift in my preference is probably due to me developing a major soft spot for cute characters/creatures over the past few years. Most of my favorite pokemon at this point are just little guys because of it. Anyways, the reason I like him so much is because of the aura control him and lucario are capable of. I've always loved aura as a power system; the idea of being able to harness one's own life energy and see it in others is just so cool to me. I especially like how it's established as its own concept outside of moves in pokemon, making it something super unique that only riolu's evolutionary line can take advantage of. I have a lot of lore/worldbuilding ideas for PMD that would utilize aura. For example, Milo, the protagonist of the PMD verse I've been brainstorming, on is a riolu with much stronger aura than normal due to him being a pokemon with a human soul. I have a lot of ideas for how I could use this concept to drive plot points or character arcs, and I might share more in the future if I ever get time to start solidifying a story.

By the way, Milo's partner, Lilly, is a squirtle. No way I don't give both of my two favorites the spotlight.

Number 3: Sprigatito

My love of sprigatito is really quite simple. I love cats. So much. They are easily my number one favorite animal of all time. My Instagram feed is covered in them. So imagine my excitement when I saw that one of the new generation 9 starters was a kitty. My violet team is my favorite team I've ever used in a pokemon game, and the sprigatito line is a massive part of why I love it so much. Sprigatito is adorable, and my meowscarada was so much fun to use after he evolved. On top of that, sprigatito's depiction in Pokemon Horizons makes me love it even more. It's literally just a cat. It loafs. It makes biscuits.. It gets annoyed at the mildest inconvenience. Liko squishes its beans. Plus it releases a super sweet scent when you cuddle it as a bonus. It's so perfect. It's like Game Freak was like "Yeah this is the perfect pokemon for Ray, put it in the game." I have a sprigatito character in my PMD verse named Mayple, but I can't share much about her because it would mean dropping pretty big spoilers for a plot point I have planned.

Honorable Mentions: Greninja and Ceruledge

I love ninjas. I love frogs. Greninja is both. And ceruledge is just objectively one of the coolest pokemon designs ever.

In terms of behated pokemon, I don't have many that I personally despise. It's more so that I feel indifferent about them, and I would simply prefer not to use them on my teams. Usually I don't have any real reason to dislike the ones I do hate; I think it just stems from a gut feeling. The biggest one off the top of my head is the tepig line. I don't know what it is, something just feels off about them. I also dislike incineroar. I like litten and torracat a lot, but they really dropped the ball with the final evolution for me.

I'm still pretty new to Tumblr, so I don't know exactly how I'm supposed to do things around here. Maraveno- A VanMozhi OS

Kandariyadhada Kandu has now expanded into Maraveno andK Kandariyadhadha Kandu- I am going to call this an OS and the next one its sequel.

His sister wanted him at Pazhayarai immediately. 

He knew the code for this- Chozha Nadu was in even more danger than before, and it worried him. He also noted that she had once more purposely excluded details about Vanathi in her olai. He was debating on how to phrase a question about Vanathi to Vanthiyathevar, when the man said, “I have one more olai for you, Ilavarase.”

He looked at Vanthiyar, suddenly curious. Could it be his.. ‘No no, Arulmozhi, stop thinking she will send you an olai, no matter how much you yearn for it.’

He shook his head through Vanthiyar’s banter with Nambi, still curious about the olai. He looked at Vanthiyar, who stepped forward, saying, “Kodumbalur Ilavarasi Vanathi Devi anuppiyadhu. (Kodumbalur Ilavarasi Vanathi Devi has sent).” 

“Olai koduthanupinaala? (She sent an olai?)” he asked, shocked, awed, and just a little confused. He took the olai, hearing Vanthiyar talk of how she had sent it in secret. But his eyes were on the cover, the purposeful design on it, probably hand stitched by Vanathi- the elephant and flower alternate design told him everything he needed to know. She had kept him in her thoughts, and hopefully her heart. His eyes traced the cover as he smiled, knowing his eyes held that hint of absolute love her name evoked in him. He slid the thread out, hearing Vanthiyar and Nambi banter still, their words registering in some sort of his brain, though all he was focused on was her olai. 

He opened the olai as Nambi and Vanthiyar left, thankful that he could pursue her words alone. He could feel a smile erupt on his face as his eyes were graced with her handwriting. This was the first time he had seen it with his eyes, and he felt like they had been touched by the cooling rays of the moon.

Ullam Kavar Kalvan,’ he read the soothing Thevaram sung by Thirugnanasambandhar in a fit of Divine devotion at the young age of three. His eyes stayed on the term Ullam Kavar Kalvan for a moment longer, and then he continued to read the other three verses she had added. Every pearl-like meaning stood in front of him like he had learnt it only a day ago. 

‘Edudaiya malaran munai naal

Panindhetha arul seydha-

Peedudaiya piramapura meviya

Pemman ivan andre,’ he smiled further, reading this,delighted that she remembered their conversation about the same Thevaram well enough to send him it, just as he was wondering about her. 

He read the next three verses than she had sent, joy filling his heart, and he lowered the scroll, smiling, remembering her beautiful brown eyes, sparkling with life and mischief, of her soft expressions, her curved jawline and coral red lips, whose smile dimpled her glowing, golden cheeks. 

“Unnai endrum maraven, anbe, (How will I ever forget you, my love?)” he whispered, tucking her scroll into a special cabinet, to read whenever he felt he needed her. 

Hopefully, this will tide him over till he meets her again!

He could feel himself sink in deeper and deeper, his dream from the previous night flashing in his eyes. 

It was his beloved Kodumbalur maiden, holding an aarati thattu and standing at the banks of the Ponni. He felt and saw her lean down, and admired her loose plait, falling down her back like a vine, as she placed flowers in prayer to Ponni thaai. 

“Ponniyin Selvare, come back home safely,” her sweet voice said, and he had felt his heart fill when he saw the yearning in her eyes reflect the state of his heart. Did she know what he felt, he wondered. 

‘I will come home to you, Vanathi. To you and to Akka,’ he thought, just as he saw his sister come up behind Vanathi and touch her shoulder. Both faces held worry, worry that he wanted to wipe from their faces, and bring back smiles. 

And now…

And now, would he go back home?

Yes he will.

Vanathi had been living a huskless life for some time now. 

Ever since the departure of her Ponniyin Selvar, her life had seemed less colourful. There had been no communication directly with him- though he did ask after her every time he sent a message to Akka. And Kundavai Akka teased her a lot about it. 

But Vanathi had cherished his questions, for it meant he thought about her too sometimes, though she knew he was occupied with so many things in Eezham, the largest of which was to craft war strategies and protect his army as much as he can. 

But that she was there on his mind enough that he always asked after her- she blushed, a smile on her face just because of him. 

But now.. 

At least her Thevar was okay, she thought, as she watched him from where she sat at his feet, the fever not quite subsiding. 

She had had a few days of complete lifelessness, of a loss that her lamp indicated had not happened, and yet the words she had heard…

“Ponniyin Selvar had drowned in the sea!”

Even now she wanted to close her ears, just hearing those words ringing in her mind and heart, as if on loop. 

“Thevare, thevare,” she whispered, gently pressing his feet. “Calm, Thevare.”

She continued massaging his feet, thankful as he calmed down, as if her touch had inspired that calmness in him. She hoped she could help him a little at least, and continued her ministrations, moving to the head of his bed, running her hand through his luscious hair.

“Anbe,” she whispered softly, mumbling sweet, loving words of reassurance, unaware that he was hearing every word, and aching to reciprocate each of them with the love he too held for her. 

She continued running her hand through his hair, before suddenly remembering that she had Vibhuti from Ishvara to apply for him. She removed her hand, a whimper leaving his mouth. She looked at him worried and hopeful. 

Had he woken up? 

But that was not the case. He was still having a restless fever. Sadly sighing, she took the Vibhuti, applying it on his forehead gently, singing, “Manthiram Avadhu Neeru…”

Arulmozhi saw his sister in front of him, as he finally opened his eyes after days of restless fever. 

“Iru veera ilavarasargalukku naduvil valarndhaval naan (I have grown up amidst two brave warrior princes). I shouldn’t cry. Make me laugh.” 

Oh Akka, how he had missed her. 

“When I wasn’t there, did you find some man and capture his heart, Akka?” He asked, delighted to see the mild blush that alighted his sister’s cheeks. So his understanding hadn’t been wrong. 

“Poda. Vanthiyathevan said…” she looked flustered, and he couldn’t help but rejoice in the fact. 

“Oh, avar dhaana adhu? (Oh, is it him?)” He sat up slowly, knowing he was being watched and be turned around, meeting the doe eyes of his Vanathi, her eyes filled with hope, joy, relief and tears. His knee jerk reaction was to get up and go to her, cup her cheeks and wipe the tears away, kiss her forehead and hold her close to him. But the moment she saw him looking at her, she hid, once again. 

He turned his focus back to his sister, ignoring the smirk that danced in her eyes, focusing on the details that they had to discuss.

Arulmozhi was going crazy. 

Where was his beautiful maiden? Why was she not here? The one who was to be his wife? 

He still remembered his Akka’s words, which had made him light up like the Sun. 

“Arulmozhi, another important thing. Patti and Amma are of the opinion that you and Vanathi should get married as soon as this mess is sorted out. I also believe so. Would you be amenable to that?” 

Would he be amenable to that? 

To marry his beloved? With whom he has already exchanged rings? Who still seemed to hide from him? 

Hmm, what was he to do? 

He lit up, smiling widely. All he needed was a scroll, some ink, and Vanthiyar!

As for anything I don't want to see, I don't think there's anything?? I feel like my prompts were pretty vanilla so I can't imagine anything particularly shocking or appalling that you could do that would make me not want to read something. (And I love angst, so anything darker there is always encouraged rather than discouraged lmaooo)

Now asking me for my favorite fics on the other hand...I'm notorious for making detailed fic rec lists. That's dangerous.

I love this series. It's Cassian centric at first, and then it's about their relationship in the context of their pasts and I am just!!! Overflowed with love for it all of the time. I binged it when I first read it, and there are some oneshots in the verse that I come back to and re-read when I'm in a mood. (Blood Brothers, where Jyn gets to meet Cassian's Imperial brother, is a weird favorite, but I think I've re-read it like 4 times. I love that sort of 3rd person POV on a ship I just DO.)

I re-read this fic almost every holiday season, that's how much I love it. Fake dating trope, holiday vibes, bickering but well-meaning family that learns to come together. It's catnip to me.

Color My Cheeks by Copper_Nails (Her_Madjesty)

Another older but beloved favorite that I've re-read multiple times. One of the first fics I ever read in the fandom, and I think one of the first sex pollen fics I'd ever read. It's not just trope-y sexy fun, but the fact that it goes into the AFTER of a sex pollen event and what that means for them emotionally feels so unique and interesting. Now I'm thinking about re-reading it again. Sigh.

I've read quite a few Film/Production based fanfics over the years, but this one is for us post girlies!!! An edit bay meet-cute, bitching about color correcting/matching--truly this fic has it all and feels tailor-made to me as an editor, even if it's at an animation studio rather than live action.

I'm basically reading through all of their star wars fics right now, so highly highly recommend this author as a whole. (The fact that I've apparently left kudos on some of them before and don't remember it at all is...funny.) This one is just a great, cute starter where Cassian and Jyn have an entire silent conversation in front of a bunch of recruits. So good.

Numair, Ozorne & Thayet for the ask game!

My NOTP for them: Ozorne circa Immortals Era. Step away from that man Emperor Mage, I don’t care if you are still in love with him. On the other hand there is so much love there - it’s not healthy love (it’s possessive, abusive and ultimately destroys Ozorne but it’s still there)

My BROTP for them: Numair and Kel have such lovely interactions - though not very many of them but it’s so sweet. And Numair and Onua best friendship.

My OTP for them: I love Numair/Daine and I’m also like UGH about it which is a weird place to be but there we go (I think newer editions have aged Daine up and Numair down which does make a difference). Also Ozorne/Numair/Varice in an AU where Ozorne and Varice ran with him.

My second choice pairing for them: Listen the Numair-Thayet-Jon (and Alanna and George) OT4 is so so great (I’d add in a few more people here as well honestly. Like the addition of Raoul-Buri-Gary-Cynthia say)

My fluffy pairing for them: Numair/Daine and also like, definitely Numair/Jon/Thayet/Alanna/George honestly. Plus also Varice/Ozorne/Numair in the time before Ozorne goes full possessive dick on everyone.

okay given that im sasamiya posting rn im going to Assume you mean them but i was also posting about dunmeshi earlier so if you wanna hear about that too just let me know but AH. There is so much to sayyyy

Okay going to try and break it down to the basics here but sasamiya (or as its actual title, Sasaki to Miyano) is basically my mcu. my sasamiya-verse. there are two manga series currently ongoing in this universe but the world is in my hands and there are so many other fandom made one's i'll get into in a bit. But For Now.

Sasaki to Miyano's basic premise is- as copied from mdex because it really is worded best there- "It all started like a typical old-school boys’ love plotline—bad-boy senior meets adorably awkward underclassman, one of them falls in love, and so on and so forth. But although Miyano is a self-proclaimed boys’ love expert, he hasn’t quite realized…he’s in one himself. Which means it’s up to Sasaki to make sure their story has a happily ever after…!"

That's it. fun and simple and sweet gay love story set-up we love to see it. Except that it can never be so simple. Because the author, harusono shou, does this crazy thing called being a really good writer who creates beautifully alive characters for me to shake like maracas in my brain.

Like, you think it's simple. Miyano is a loveable bl fan who hasn't put much thought into his sexuality, Sasaki is the guy he successfully gets into his hyperfixation and they grow from that shared interest into an adorable relationship. But Then they hit you with the Miyano body insecurities and youre like hey, wait a minute. And then they caually show Sasaki displaying every single symptom of undiagnosed depression in his childhood and you have to stop and go hey... And then they have to have Hanzawa mother fucking Masato (lovingly said. absolute beloved character.) and you quickly realize that this isnt just some sweet romance story. it's a sweet romance story with the most quietly complicated character writing one only dreams of <- im biased and obsessed. may not be true to life but [shrugs] there is no one doing it like harusono and her thousands of words of character analysis that she has written about her own characters. i love her fr.

Im trying not to spoil things here really but it is genuinely such a lovely and interesting story, the light novels are literally my entire life, occasional side character Shirahama Kyouji is genuinely my favorite character and he probably has a total of 8 scenes in the translated manga so far. he was my blog theme for like 2 weeks straight earlier this year i am insufferable about him and everything he both is and isnt.

And that isn't even getting into Hirakagi. the agonies. Hirano to Kagiura, the technically prequel spin-off manga about sasaki's best friend and the gay shenanigans he gets up to with his roommate. they make me sob and also make me sick its great. could not reccomend it more even if you never read sasamiya or vice versa just one of them is such a great read.

The biggest appeal for me though is definately the fandom though. like i have been in So Many Fandoms as you can tell from the absolute chaos that is my blog, but ive probably only experienced this sort of fandom experience once before in my whole entire life. im so entrenched. the thing about being a, while popular, still very much a bl series that doesnt get much in terms of fan or official content, is that eventually something has to give. usually that means that the fandom is either dead or rarely gets talked about, which you would think to be true i you just looked at the main tags, but ive never been in a fandom that breathes to much... life?? into itself??? dont know how to word it. we make it work around here basically.

like after years of gaps between chapters we all collectively just went "okay how about we just do it ourselves" and essentially made the fandom into goncharov before there was ever a goncharov yk. like the actual story is really good and well done and then we all just went and made it our own to keep ourselves sane, and it worked!! we call it hanzawa to tashro!!! it is in our minds and also technically in the text. its so amazing here i cant even explain it well enough. my friends @/dirtbra1n @/aranarumei @/kagiuraakira and @/sunnnfish and so many others (we're all easy to find we stalk each other's blogs to talk about all of this) make awesome posts about it. #riverposting or #hanzawa to tashiro are good places to look if youre interested. i also talk about them A Lot over here to you can look through what I have too though a lot of it has like specific aus like #dating sim au and stuff tagged on mine, so the others are better bets for general meta posting fun. Just. Its so fun here. also if youve ever liked jeweler richard then shameless plug bc my dear friend kiri wrote the anomalous agate which is a beautiful and fun crossover with hanzawa to tashiro and tcfojr which is so so good if you're interested.

Just, there is a lot and this definately didn't cover it all. i want to explain riverposting but that takes Time and Context and also was explained before by sunnnfish on their blog im pretty sure (and they do amazing art over on @/sunnfish with 2 n's) if you ever feel like checking this all out. i love this place a lot.
