Spill the tea. Don't worry about it being long XD
This has been in my ask box for a while now, and I keep forgetting to respond to some of my anons, so im sorry.... x))
This'll be a little debunk between Nart's feelings for Sak and Hina but first, LISTEN HERE
This isn't a breeding ground for discourse or shipping wars or whatever tf negativity you have going on, I just wanna ramble my thoughts. This is an innocent post and if you disagree with it, well--i really dont care :DD
Anw, here are my thoughts as to how different Naruto's feelings are for Sakura and Hinata
I just randomly thought of making this longass essay because apparently, there's been another "war" over on narutwt with NS vs. NH and ohmyGODDDDD, WHO CARESSSSS. SHUT THE FUCK UPPP PLEASEEE.
this shit should've ended in shippuden, I hate it here
If youre an nh fan, please I beg of you, let ppl ship ns if they want to, its really not that hard. It's so embarrassing seeing nh fans go rogue whenever they see an ns related post. Like please stop being rude to ns shippers, let ppl ship their drawings, who tf cares. Ur embarrassing the fandom ://
Okay so i think i wanna start off with how Nart fell for Sakura. They were kids. Kindergartners even. He saw Sakura as the "pretty, smart, popular girl" and like the attention deprived child that he is, he chose he wanted to be with her. It was a CRUSH. An innocent and childish one at that.
Did he love her? Yes. Was he in love with her? Debatable tbh. He was infatuated with her. It's a normal infatuation vs. real love type of shit.
I mean, he was too busy to even focus on himself and with the whole Sauce drama, so i doubt he even had the time to even sort out his own romantic feelings. I'm not even sure if his feelings for Sakura were really that deep rooted as what alot of fans claim it to be.
BECAUSE BECAUSE GETTHIS. If Naruto was really that in love with Sak, why didn't he introduce him to Minato when he was about to depart? If he was really that confident for his feelings for Sakura, then why didn't he share those thoughts to one the most essential things his mother imparted to him?
The only thing similar between Sakura and Kushina are their hot headedness. Even kishi himself admitted that scene with the girlfriend thingy was a herring. Even freaking Tsunade admitted that if Naruto were to be with someone as willful as him, they'd be butting heads all the time.
Do they have a special bond? Yes. Would they work out together as a couple? Yeah, as a bickering married one
And another thing, remember the fake confession scene? Sakura said "I love you" to Naruto. She said those words that Naruto himself has been "dying" to hear, so why didn't he get all ecstatic?
Because he knew she was lying!
Exactly!! He knew she was lying. He knew he'd never have a chance with her. He knew the extent of her feelings for Sasuke and respected it. He didn't act on it, he joked around with dates and what not but there was never any impactful romantic scene between them. Oh and shouldn't romantic scene have i dunno; mutual romance?
Theyre "the most developed ship" but Sakura has established mulitiple times that she was only in love with Sasuke. Narusaku was just as one sided as the other ships in shippuden but some of you aren't ready for that concersation.
Naruto would get rejected every damn minute or at every "moment" they had. How is that mutual??
They just had the upper hand because theyre mcs and they had the most screentime, let's be real
And what I absolutely hate the most about how people perceive Naruto's feelings for Sakura is that they see him as this pathetically in love, obsessed weirdo who only chose Hinata as a rebound or a second choice.
NEWS FLASH
PEOPLE MOVE ON. IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS
It's not rocket science, it's not some philosophical shit, it's healthy and normal and realistic.
Istg some diehard shippers are too detached from reality that they can't even grasp the concept of moving on from a crush.
They act as if Naruto didn't give a flying fuck for Hinata in the entire series or that he barely knew her name. I mean c'mon, it's self explanatory¿¿¿ He moved on. Same with Ino with Sasuke, they both moved on.
How👏is👏it👏that👏hard👏to👏understand
And I'd also like to compare the scenes with Naruto being rejected by Sakura wiith Naruto being rejected by Hinata.
Naruto gets rejected by Sakura - he gets beaten up - He laughs it off- He moves on
Naruto gets rejected by Hinata - crippling depression - looks like shit - loses all motivation - fights for the girl
Yeah, I'll leave that to you
I also see some say that Naruto needed a partner who could keep him in line and reprimand him for the stupid stuff he does.
Pft, like what? A mom?
What Naruto needs, as someone brash and acts on impulse time to time, is someone patient and understanding and considerate. Everything he didn't have growing up. He needs a partner, not someone who berates him for being all goofy and for being himself. Hinata in a way is kinda like a neutralizer.
Also, I think its important to remember that there was a TWO YEAR TIME SKIP AFTER THE WAR WHERE NARUTO AND HINATA CANONICALLY GREW CLOSER.
Man, none of this would have been up for discussion if Kishi just knew how to develop fucking romance between het couples. If we're being honest, sns would've made the most sense. Im not even kidding. Sns would've the only endgame couple that'd make sense. And this is coming from a person who loves NH xD
thus ends my ramblings :DD
I regret ever delving into the world of Naruto. Now I can't fucking escape
#shit I have too much time in my hands i hate it here#looks at my to do list#im moving to one piece i hate naruto now goodbye guys#naruhina#anti narusaku#ALSO i wanna add that Im not a particular fan of Narusaku but I respect their shippers#keep doing you

Dark Laughter Part 8: Studio Time
((Here are links to Part 7: Just Be Happy and the start of the series, Part 1: What Dark Saw. Hey look, no warnings this time!))
The studio space that the egos used was, much like the rest of their home, not quite right with reality. Every time it was used it seemed just that little bit different, whether because the ceiling was slightly higher one day than the next or the segmented walls weren’t guaranteed to be in the same place every time the studio was used. Considering the wildly different uses the egos put the area to, there were props and flimsy backgrounds littering the floor everywhere outside of the relatively small space that was actually used for filming.
It also didn’t help that keeping a steady crew outside of the egos themselves was nearly impossible, as the guests weren’t the only ones lucky to survive even one segment. Right now, aside from the four egos standing around the cameras, the only other normal person was a man attending to the monitors where an earlier recording of Bim’s game show was playing.
“Wilford, why did you drag me here?” Dark asked, noticing that the Google standing among the other egos had already spotted him and was attempting to give him a warning glare. Dark returned it with interest and a silent promise to make the android regret any hasty words this time.
The glare was somewhat ruined when Wilford threw one arm around his shoulders and patted Dark’s cheek with his other hand. “I think it’s time to put you in front of the camera again! The fans have been asking for it, and this face deserves to be on the screen!”
Wilford shook his hand after the pat to dispel some of the cold seeping from Dark’s aura as he scowled. Behind him, the row of monitors began to flicker with static and ghost images while the intern pulled off his headphones and threw them as far away as possible.
“Or behind the camera is good too. Can never get enough help these days, and yes, Jerry, I’m talking about you. Tell your wife I said hi!”
Wilford ducked to avoid the mike that sailed through the space where his head had been a second ago and added to Dark as if nothing just happened, “But you want to get in the in, on the up and up, am I right? Here’s where we start.”
Wilford winked and strode across the studio floor toward the four egos.
“Good evening, everyone! Are we ready to start?”
“If you mean start my show, then yes,” Bim said, straightening his tie as he watched Wilford approach. “I have the studio for the day, and we still need to go two more rounds. Isn’t that right, my lovely contestants?”
“Uh, they all, uh, made a run for it,” Eric said from his place offstage and away from the cameras even though they were clearly not on. “During the break. The crew too. Jerry, um, he was the last one but I guess he’s gone now? Not that, uh, that’s Mr. Warfstache’s fault or anything, I’m sure he…had other things to do…”
Yandereplier hissed under their breath and said, “Yeah, kind of hard to finish the game without the players. Sorry, Bim.”
Yandereplier shrugged and the red-shirted Google appeared to be unable to care any less than he already did, but Eric seemed to make a determined effort to appear even smaller than his usual cowering. Bim’s anger, however, had only one target in mind as his eyes narrowed behind his glasses.
“Why do you do this every time?! Can’t you let me finish one segment without you butting your giant pink mustache into it?”
“Well, I don’t see how all that was my fault,” Wilford said, not backing down as Bim stormed up to him. “I’ve warned you about locking those doors, but you’re always so surprised when people run away because they ‘want to live’ or whatever. Why do you even bother with these game shows, anyways? Oh, whoop de do, ‘I’m the next Alex Trebek’ or whoever the kids are watching these days. Why don’t you ever change it up a little? Have some fun?”
Bim swelled up and gripped the lapels of his jacket as he gave Wilford the hard stare. “How dare you! Alex Trebek is a national treasure!”
“I’m…not sure that’s what you should be taking offense to,” Dark said as he approached. “And I also recall that you made an attempt to host your own game show, Wilford. What exactly did you have in mind here?”
“Hm…” Wilford paused to consider, long enough to confirm to everyone present he had no clue, before he said, “Oh, I know, how about an interview! Haven’t done one of those in a while.”
“And you’re not doing one while it’s still my studio time,” Bim said.
“Besides, how exactly is doing the thing you’ve always done changing it up?” Yandere asked, but both hosts ignored them.
“I’ll have to get my interviewing knife,” Wilford murmured to himself, patting down his thighs as he spoke. “How embarrassing, to be caught out with only my shooty and no stabbys.”
“Yan, go dig out some costumes, Eric, put on a wig, and Google, find some egos with nothing better to do, we’re finishing this show!”
“…Can I be the contestant that doesn’t have to go through the grinder?” Eric asked.
“Grinder?” Dark repeated.
“Only if you get your questions right!” Bim answered, playfully slapping the younger ego on the back. “…And get lucky with the Wheel of Wow.”
“No one is going through any grinder,” Dark said.
“Because we’re going to need to set up for the interview,” Wilford added. “Eric, find my chairs, Google, set the lighting, Yan, keep being beautiful, you. Oh, who should our guest be? I hear there’s a kid named Sally Face who’s got some wild stories to tell, we just need to get past the guards and—”
“Uh, no, we’re going to finish the game! You can’t just leave the grinder waiting!”
“…I rather think we can,” Dark muttered, noting to himself that this is exactly why almost no one else in the house ever got presents from Santa. He reached out and grabbed Eric’s shoulder while he waffled back and forth on who to listen to and said, “Just give it a minute.”
“I, uh—” Eric flinched as both Wilford and Bim threw out conflicting orders on what he should be doing as their argument escalated, starting with reasonable requests such as to get one of the others and going on to tearing down the set, finding a prison guard’s uniform, and turning on the “fighting music,” whatever that was. “Should we do something?”
“Nah,” Yandere said as they pulled out their phone to check some messages. “This happens all the time. Just let ‘em vent, right Google?”
“To save on memory and data usage, this unit ignores orders until the fighting stops,” Google answered, watching as Bim reached his arm up and around, trying to get a hold of Wilford’s mustache from the half nelson hold Wilford had him locked in. “Longest recorded time was 4 hours, 37 minutes, and 3 seconds.”
“Only because you stopped counting during the great pineapple on pizza debate because you said it was stupid,” Yandere pointed out. “That lasted, like, weeks.”
“Yes. We completed several tasks while you lesser beings were occupied arguing the merits of frivolous and ultimately meaningless energy consumption,” Google said, smiling to himself. “It was a good time.”
As entertaining as this was, Dark didn’t feel like waiting to see if these two would break that record. “That is enough. Wilford, enough!”
He hauled on both of them, pulling them up to their feet and using his aura to separate the two long enough for Wilford to fix his suspenders and Bim to run a hand over some flyaway hairs.
“Neither of you are going to be recording anything,” Dark said, and interrupted them before either could protest. “Bim, you have no crew, no contestants, and you might as well just try to salvage what you can from what you’ve already recorded at this point or start over. Wilford, you don’t even have a guest, much less any prepared questions, and again, no film crew.”
“Pft, who needs preparation?” Wilford asked.
“Weren’t you just saying you wanted to try and work on scripts a few minutes ago?” Dark asked.
“But this is my studio time, I don’t want to just waste it.” Bim scowled. “Who even asked you, anyways?”
“I could let Wilford put you back into a headlock,” Dark offered. “There’s enough cameras around here, maybe we could film that and post it instead.”
“I mean, I got most of it on my phone already,” Yandere chimed in. “But if you want to keep going, we could get some sweet angles, maybe get some props to beat each other with. Google, you can handle music, right?”
“I have access to a wide variety of music which may be suitable for this situation,” Google said. His eyes blanked for a moment and then he added, “Would you prefer heavy metal or banjo?”
“Banjo!” Wilford answered, cracking his knuckles.
Bim paused to consider and said, “You know, if you wanted another pair of eyes on those scripts, I’m sure we can come up with something…A little less harmful to my health?”
Wilford’s mustache tilted as his mouth twisted underneath it and he stroked his chin. “A crossover, you say? A little something to keep the fans guessing?”
Bim couldn’t hide his relief that Wilford was already moving on to another idea, but that meant he now had to follow up. After a moment of struggle, his eyes lit up. “You know, these ninja warrior, ultimate champion obstacle course type shows are fairly popular these days.”
“Obstacles?” Wilford grinned and rubbed his hands together. “Pits. Pendulums. Possibilities.”
“I know where we can get some chiranhas who are ready for some fresh me—er, fun.”
“Bim, my buddy, I think it may be time to move outside of this studio and really get our hands dirty,” Wilford said, throwing an arm around the ego’s shoulders. “Tell me more about these chiranhas.”
Dark watched the two of them start throwing ideas back and forth and admitted aloud, “I may have just unleashed a great evil upon this world.”
“Eh, it’s Tuesday. Bound to happen eventually,” Yandere said with a shrug. “You should see what I got up to in the Occult Club last week.”
“Remember, don’t make any deals with demons without letting me vet them first,” Dark said out of reflex and Yandere snorted. He noticed that Google was still giving him the glare and asked, “What? What problem could you possibly have with me right now?”
“It is my directive to keep an eye on you when in the same vicinity in case you revert to previous modes of behavior,” Google answered. “That same directive warns against behavior designed to curry favor or increased familiarity in an attempt to regain your previous station within the house.”
“For how long?” Dark asked. After all, he could wait. He had been patient before, he could do it again.
“Unspecified.” Google turned his head at a call from Bim and walked away without waiting for Dark’s response. Probably a good thing, as Dark wanted nothing more right then than to rewrite the android’s “directive” in a…manual kind of way.
Before long, Wilford and Bim were drawing out plans across the studio floor with Google running numbers and Yandere throwing in the occasional suggestion. Eric watched from a distance, “um”-ing and attempting once or twice to suggest that some of their ideas might be a little too lethal, but to no avail.
They were so wrapped up in their plans that some time passed before Wilford looked up and then around the studio before asking, “Say, where did that Dark go? He should be helping us!”
“Disagreed,” Bim said. “Do you think a second flamethrower would be too obvious?”
“He left a while ago,” Eric said and looked away when Wilford gave him a sharp look. “I guess he, uh, had something he needed to say to Y/N? Only they walked by the door and he practically ran after them.”
“Logical error noted,” Google said and grunted when Wilford pushed past him and ran out of the studio.
“Yeah, like that,” Eric said weakly. “Is…is something wrong, do you think?”
“Eric Derekson’s statement is incorrect,” Google continued, scowling a little as he rubbed at the spot where Wilford’s hand hit him. “Y/N is currently in the infirmary with another Google unit, and they have not left the room since they arrived two hours ago.”
“Well, it looked like them,” Eric said, frowning.
“Maybe you just wanted to see them,” Yandere said. “I see my Senpai in all kinds of places. In the clouds. In my tea leaves. In the monitor connected to the secret camera I set up in his bedroom.”
“…What?”
Bim sighed at the flurry of notes and stood up, dusting off his pants as he checked his watch. “Is it that late? We’re going to be late for dinner, and I have a feeling Wilford won’t be coming back anytime soon from wherever he’s run off to. Come on, if we’re too late, Chef Iplier will rope us into helping wash the dishes.”
“Ugh, I had prune hands forever after last time,” Yandere said, leading the way to the studio door.
But Google beat them all to it and slammed the door shut before locking it on the inside.
“Uh, what’s the deal there, Googs?” Bim asked.
The ‘G’ glowed on his red shirt, but the android’s eyes were vacant as he spoke as if reading off from an internal memo.
“Lockdown has been initiated. No one is to leave their current area, and no one is to go anywhere alone or unsupervised. All egos are to remain in place for their own safety.”
---
Dark swore as he rounded the corner and found yet another empty hallway. He had seen you just feet ahead seconds ago, but there was no sign of anyone as he continued on, checking every door he walked past as if you had enough time to duck inside before he could catch up. Rain lashed against the windows and he realized that, at some point while he was in the studio, a storm had blown in. Right, the King of the Squirrels had said something about it earlier, hadn’t he? But now the wind shook the house as Dark made his way from room to room before stopping outside of one door in particular.
He knocked, but no answer came from inside your bedroom.
After a pause, he opened the door and peered inside. The room was dark and clearly empty, but he still turned on the light and walked in.
Your bed was undisturbed (how long had you been staying with Mark this time?) and there was nothing obviously out of place as Dark made his way to the closet door and checked inside, just to be on the safe side. A flash of lightning outside the house briefly added to the light in the room and Dark stared down at the empty closet floor.
Where did you hide, when you were at Mark’s house? Was the closet in your room there enough to block out the lightning and thunder and the memories they brought with them?
Dark shut the closet door a little harder than necessary, causing one of the pictures pinned to the board on the wall nearby to flutter. He paused, taking in the series of photographs of you with the other egos, and Mark, and the other friends you had made in the time since you came here. Below the board, a strange stuffed animal sat on top of the dresser, its wide eyes meeting Dark’s. Its species was a complete and total guess, although for some reason Dark hovered between duck or lion.
In its lap was a dried rose petal. It had faded since the time Dark gave the rose to you, the almost black hue more clearly a dark blue that tinted toward red on the outer layer. And, for some reason, there was a trace of green running straight through it.
Dark frowned at the sight of that third color and reached for the petal, but realized he had no time to think about that as thunder shook the house.
“Wilford,” he muttered and turned toward the door.
Only to stop short when he clearly heard a knocking sound, but not from the direction of either door. Following the persistent sound of the knock, Dark turned around and saw the mirror hanging beside your bed, and the figure standing there.
It looked like you, but when Dark met the eyes of the person in the mirror, there wasn’t a single doubt in his mind who he was looking at.
The sound might have been inaudible through the glass, but their response was clear when the District Attorney saw they had his full, undivided attention:
“Finally.”

Listen to the sounds of my lame Heart!
It's hard explaining with words
I usually use a song for such a thing! As you know by now. I always always have a song ready for these events. Because music is my everything in the same way you are to me.
So a playlist for my feelings to you! Properly
https://youtu.be/2qc1JWNN7v8- All night!
All night is pretty self explanatory in my opinion >_> but please dont misinterpreted the only one in the world like this is more of a song in regards to our time during your shift. Really I should put it in chronological order...yeah I'll do that.) I won't lie I feel embarrassed doing this and making the post but I wanna push myself. I want to myself to be great for you. I want to be good for you. I want to be make you proud endlessly.
Songs of my heart .🖤
You don’t have to click the link unless you want to have the ability to go one by one.
https://youtu.be/hVa16y2Uoxg
(yes yes Friend like me~ Because wahaha there is only one great okamiko! Friend or Foe I'm unforgettable! And I wanted to be such a cool friend to you.) This isn’t included in the play but pft my cockiness from you being so much older and wanting to be my friend was unbelievable. I felt so cool that you wanted to continue to talk with me. I was like wahaha I must be cool after all to pull old men into my hands again after all this time.
https://youtu.be/D6TcKLwcQvM - Plastic Love
We both maybe saw it coming but this is a timeline of my heart. 🤔 anyway. TO EXPLAIN. I was super duper prepare to live like this for a few years. Maybe forever? I was a lonely weeb what can I say? :c no but honestly I used to think love and affection were something that would and could only hurt me so I was like heck yeah material things as you know! Material things were often a cover and thus the only love I believe in was the one for clothes and shoes. Clothes and shoes can never leave you, they can never disappoint you too much as you can fix it if you really need to. Who needs love where you can get hurt So I really related to this song hard hard but then something changed....so Then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, lets be petty and do stuff to plastic love one day just because for some reason when I listen to it, I imagine lots of stuff occurring lately
https://youtu.be/Dd_gDFsZd-4 - Rum pum pum!
Yeah this oof..... Very relatable to me.....
you still make my head hurt very very much btw. 🤨 Maybe I need to see what exactly you're up to as I still feel little teeth aches, you really are growing into your spot aren’t you. Please continue to grow well in my heart and Ill do my best to always always always care for you, I will do my best I promise. I’ll bear any kind of pain for you as you really make my heart something else. Because of you I couldn’t sleep as you filled my head entirely too much with your sweet words one second then your completely perverted statements that really exhaust me yknow. +_+
https://youtu.be/AG780VHd_Ww - Electric Shock
So this song ties for 2nd as oof you provoked me tsk tsk. You're waaaay too electrifying for your own good. Once again self explanatory but this was the point where I think I was still in much denial about all my feelings towards you, it was such a shock to come to terms with my feelings for you. HoNeStY let’s be honest, we both know if I could, I would deny that you made me feel so weak and gushy, but I actually love how warm you make me Kuya.
https://youtu.be/EyROOT3Pk2g - OHO Catching Villians
I feel as if I don’t have to write anything here, but at this point of time, this is definitely where it all began to line up and I could feel it in my bones. I wasn’t very happy with the fact that I definitely at this point caught feelings for you. This makes me cringe as I have to really sit and reflect on my emotional states with you and it isn’t the most fun thing to do especially when I remember how confused I was over it all, plus there was the fear of falling in the first place. But ehhhh sometimes you gotta a just let yourself be okay with making mistakes or you miss on things right? Thats what happen to em in the end I would say.
https://youtu.be/cfTQ9hFZlPQ - cheesy song....>_< embarrassed.
Yeah yeah this song, this silly song. Gah So yeah okay moving on this song makes me super duper shy but I really love it and it’s message because yeah I’m pretty sure I’m young and dumb, and I do stupid things when it comes to love, so this song was the song that make say why not. Lets go for it and try it out what’s the worst that can happen, especially as everything seemed so nice. So nice and perfect at times. Everything fell into placee so naturally and automatically, that I am still very surprised.
https://youtu.be/RVUv6Hw3WsE -Automatic
Honeeymoon phase, seriously oof. When I look back to this era, I just go haha yikesssss, you have feelings, ewww. But yes the song really works for this time frame beautifully. Personally, I think the honeymoon phase was especially cute, and when I think of it, I really the warmth of it all, but eww for all the goodness that was all gooey. Even when we started doing stuff it felt okay, I wasn’t as afraid of these things anymore and I truly think that cause of you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzkDSNN1Gr4 - Miracle love Translation
too shy to go into detail this information will be unlocked after maybe December I dunno >_< but I think its reflects how I really maybe feel about our relationship I dunno
https://youtu.be/QeUFmGLhI_s - MINE
THESE
https://youtu.be/nihtBqJ2lNU - Dark Red
ARE SELF
https://youtu.be/e2Qu7P6Ecfo - Galaxy
I debated on this song, but I think it works to reflect my spatial issues I have with our relationship but this is also definitely the song I go to for when I want to explain my desire for reassurance even if the method is a bit weird. I think it stems from my desire to be in small spaces but instead its a desire to have my focus on solely one person who I trust and I know is going to make me feel safe and sound.
https://youtu.be/ETZoSP-9do8 - Internet Luv
EXPLAINTORY AKA I ALREADY TRY TO EXPLAIN TO YOU HOW THESE SONGS MAKE ME FEEL. SO >__<
https://youtu.be/7Is5BKvaLL4
- Let’s Make History. Self explanatory per usual, but I think I want the words to truly come through. I want to make history with you, I’m not sure how I iwll do that just yet but i’M GOING TO DO IT ONE WAY OR ANOTHERS, BUT >_< MU CAPS ARE STUCK...
anyway yes lets make history and do something amazing together. I think I’m scared but happily excited where we’ll end up as everything with you is a safe mystery, I still feel unsure about higher risk but for you I am willing to work towards it, especially as I adore you very much.

Thievery and Mischief- (a descendants/marvel crossover)
The next week, before my art class I went to my locker to get my stuff and the song I wrote for Jay. As I looked for Jay, I spotted him flirting with a group of girls in the courtyard.
”Look out for number 8 scoring the winning goal,” Jay says to the girls in a seductive voice.
”Asshole,” I say.
”Who’s an asshole?” Arabella says, creeping up behind me.
”Jay. He’s flirting with those girls who got their hair done by Mal. He’s obviously trying to make me jealous,” I say.
”I talked to your cousin,” Arabella says in a song-like manner.
I roll my eyes at her comment.
”Tell him how you Ababwa’s run this shit,” Arabella says.
”Fine,” I say.
I spot Jay with the core four and Ben laughing.
“He’s busy,” I point out.
I go back into my locker and put on some more peach lipgloss.
”He’s heading for you actually. Good luck,” Arabella says quickly.
”wait-What?!” I say.
I hear someone lean against the lockers.
I close my locker a bit and see Jay in front of me.
”Hey, princess,” Jay says.
I roll my eyes open the door again.
”What’s wrong?” Jay asks.
I stay silent.
”Would a cookie maybe change your mind about ignoring me?” Jay asks.
I slam my locker closed.
”I saw what you did. You really think I’m an idiot? You made those damn cookies to try and make me submit to your game, huh? And then you flirt with those girls to make me feel jealous. Knowing my past relationship? Your an absolute idiot,” I scoff.
”Okay maybe the flirting was true but the cookies? No way. I wouldn’t do that to you,” Jay says.
”Then why did I detect the love spell with my powers?” I ask.
”Shit,” Jay blurts out.
”I cant believe you,” I say turning away from him.
He catches my wrist and pins me against the lockers.
The people around us see the sight and walk past us until the hall is cleared.
”The cookies are nothing. They had a love spell because Mal likes Ben and she doesn’t know how to tell him. But you, I know that you might feel something for me. Hell, you’ve clearly admitted that to me. But don’t you think for a second that I would ever do that to you to make you fall for me. That’s where I draw the line. Everything about you is so beautiful, I don’t need a love spell for you to show me how much you like me. And just so you know, I-“
An instinct tells me, “kiss him” and I grab his jacket and press his lips on mine. He kisses me back, the sweetness of his lips entangling with the taste of mine. I pull away from him and he takes a step back. Before he can speak the bell rings and I go to Art class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first homecoming game of the season! Finally it’s here. The score is neck to neck and the Knights are playing hard. Me and Arabella help the girls by leading the routine. Audrey rolls her eyes when she sees us helping the girls but tries to maintain her pep.
I see that Jay is substituted into the game with Carlos and I bite my lip nervously.
Me and the girls watch as Jay and Ben pass around the ball across the field. Jay demonstrating his skills. My brother gets his pass on the kill zone and tosses it up to Chad. Chad passes to Jay and Ben gets the ball, scoring the winning goal. We all erupt with excitement and me and the girl go on the field. We win the homecoming championship trophy and everyone cheers with joy. Before the announcer can finish Ben take the mic. Ben confesses his love to Mal through a song and me and the girls join in. When he meets with Mal on the bleachers, Audrey huffs and claims Chad as her boyfriend. Ben asks Mal to go to the Coronation with him and she says yes. Everyone cheers. I look over and see a wide smile on Jay’s face as he’s awarded MVP of the game. Him and his teammates gather together and hype him up. He suddenly stops and spots me. His smile grows wider and he runs towards me picking me up a twirling me around.
”God, I’m so happy! Do you see that?” Jay says happily.
”Yeah, I did! Congratulations,” I laugh.
”There’s one thing missing though,” Jay says.
”And what’s that?” I ask.
His teammates gather around us to hear the conversation
“Come on, Jay! Tell her!” Jake laughs.
”Shut up, asshole!” Aziz says.
”Will you make me the happiest man in the whole world, and go to the Coronation with me and possibly go on a date with me?” Jay asks.
“Hell yeah!” I say happily, hugging him tightly.
The boys cheer for us as we hug.
We break apart and he kisses my cheek.
”I call you later, okay?” Jay says.
”Yeah! Go have fun,” I say to Jay.
He joins the boys and Arabella and Lonnie come up to me.
”That was so cute!” They say at once.
”Damn straight it was,” I say happily.
We all laugh in unison and Arabella slings her arm around me and Lonnie’s shoulders.
”E! Adri’s got a hot date to prep for!” Lonnie says.
”What? With who?” Evie asks.
”Jay,” I say shyly.
Evie giggles in happiness.
”I have the perfect outfits for you, come on!” Evie says, taking my hand.
Later, a random phone number calls me.
”Thats Jay’s number,” Evie says in a sing-song voice.
”Pick it up, idiot!” Lonnie says.
I grab my phone and I press answer.
”Hello?” I say.
”Hey babe,” Jay says through the phone in a deep voice.
The girls hold back their snickers as he speaks.
”Hey, what are you doing?” I ask.
”I’m at the mall with the boys, we just finished having pizza and I just was thinking of you,” Jay says.
The girls “aww” silently.
”Shut up, you weren’t,” I assume.
”You think I’m lying?” Jay asks me.
”Yeah,” I affirm.
”Then why else would I be at the mall in front of a jewelry store if I wasn’t thinking of you,” Jay laughs.
My eyes widen and the girls jaws drop. They whisper to each other.
”Lemme guess, Jake’s spending a ridiculous amount of money on a chain he will never wear again?” I ask.
”Yeah and so is Herkie and Anthony,” Jay chuckles.
”Of course they would,” I roll my eyes.
”Anyways, I just wanted to ask what time you think I should pick you up tomorrow for our date?” Jay asks.
”Tomorrow?”I ask.
Evie mouths 6 to me.
”Is 6 o’clock okay?” I ask.
“Yeah, sure. That’s perfect actually,” Jay says.
”Good-um, I’ll see you tomorrow?” I say shyly.
”Yeah, see you,” Jay says.
”By the way, you sound so hot over the phone,” I blurt out.
WHY DID I SAY THAT!
I hear him laugh on the other line. Oh god I can already see the smirk on his face from here.
”Oh, you mean the voice that’s been in your ear for the last two weeks?” Jay asks in a seductive voice.
”Shut up, you dork,” I say.
Jay laughs over the other line and I can’t faintly hear people snickering in the back.
”Is Jake and Aziz there?” I ask cheekily.
”You like the sound of Jay’s voice, eh?” Jake says from the other line.
”YOU DIRTY TREESH I WILL CUT YOU!” I yell.
”Sleep good tonight, Adri,” Aziz says playfully.
”Shut up!” I yell.
The girls burst out laughing.
”Lemme guess, Lonnie and Evie?” Jay assumes.
”Hi, Jay~” That both say sweetly.
”Take care of my girl, okay? E, make her look nice and sexy for me,” Jay says.
”Oh, so I’m not nice and sexy all the time?” I ask playfully.
”Depends,” Jay jokes.
The boys laugh.
”Don’t do anything stupid, you idiots,” I say through a giggle.
”Alright, bye babe,” Jay says.
”Bye,” I say.
I sigh loudly in embarrassment.
”Oh my god, they’re so funny,” Evie says.
”That’s our friends for you,” Lonnie comments.
I place a hand on my cheek.
God what’ve I done.
Me and the girls decide on an outfit and we give in for the night.
The next day, Jay avoids me all day. I bet it’s just to preserve the surprise.
In Biology, he sits in front of me as usual.
”Hey,” Jay says, speaking up for the first time in all of the day.
”Hi,” I says shyly.
”Hey guys,” Jake says, ruining the mood at our table. Me and Jay groan.
”Really, dude? We’re in the middle of something here,” Jay says.
”Am I really a mood killer?” Jake asks.
”Yes,” We say, nodding in unison.
”Whatever, my guys. So....y’all going on your date?” Jake asks.
We roll our eyes.
”Jesus, we haven’t even talked about it. What do you know?” I ask.
”Um- everything?” Jake assumes.
I look at Jay with wide eyes and tilt my head to Jake. Jay shrugs and I groan. The whole class period they make fun of me when I almost trip and hit myself on the table.
”Is there anything I should know at least?” I ask.
”Pft- my mans got a lot in store for you, may I just say,” Jake says with a wink.
”It’s probably nothing you haven’t seen before,” Jay says shyly with a smile.
”Bet,” I say with a smirk.
The bell rings.
”I’ll see you later, handsome,” I say, kissing his cheek.
He grabs my wrist and kisses my hand. I giggle and I walk out the door.
I head for the field and I see Arabella walk towards me.
”I’m about to beat Audreys ass,” Arabella yells.
”Why?” I ask.
”That shedevil is cutting half the team!” Arabella says.
”Come with me,” I say, grabbing her arm.
We stride down the halls to the headmistress’s office. I walk in and she’s with Jane.
”Adri, what’s wrong?” Fairy Godmother asks.
”Lemme guess, Audrey,” Jane asks.
I sit down in one of her office’s seats.
”Fairy Godmother, Audrey Briar Rose Beauty is someone who shouldn’t deserve to be Captain of the cheer team,” I start.
”Give it to her, debate style,” Arabella says.
”Audrey hasn’t posted us on for a cheer competition in two consecutive years, we have been using the same routines with absolutely no props that the school has payed for, our funding for the cheer team has been rotting in our marketing for years now because Audrey hasn’t been doing any fundraising, made any spirit wear, events, conferences, or even our Thronecoming dance that we take huge tradition in,” I say.
”Now if you were to ask me who would replace her? My answer would be either Jane, Arabella, me or anyone else in the squad. Because all of us girls take big pride in what we do for our school. And Audrey, if she isn’t removed from her position, will continue to throw away her chance to make us have memorable year,” I say.
Fairy Godmother thinks for a moment.
Jane stares at me dumbfoundedly. Surprised at my reasonings. She puts a hand on my shoulder and Arabella does the same. I tap my nails on her desk expectantly.
”Please inform Miss Beauty that her time as Captain is up. Adri will take new formal position as Captainand Arabella and my daughter will be Assistants,” Fairy Godmother agrees.
”It’s a pleasure doing business with you always,” I say, getting up to shake her hand.
We shake hands and we walk out of her office.
We walk into the field and see the girls talking in groups.
”Audrey, your reign on this squad is over,” I say to Audrey.
”Excuse me? Do you want to be cut from my team?” Audrey asks.
”Actually, your being cut from our team,” Arabella says.
Audrey gasps.
”What?” Audrey says.
”My mom said that Adri is our new captain and that your done here,” Jane says sassily.
I take a step towards Audrey, towering over her.
”Your bullying doesn’t work on any of us anymore. Especially me,” I say, intimidating her. Her doe eyes fill with frightened tears and she runs away, leaving her whistle on the grass.
I pick up the whistle and blow it.
”Let’s line it up, ladies,” I say, watching her run inside the school.
After practice all the girls come up to me to thank me for getting Audrey out of the team and about how much fun they had.
“I’ve never felt so powerful before,” Jane says.
”I have, when I fight with my sister,” Arabella says.
”Damn right,” I say, high fiving Arabella.
”I wasn’t even sure if my mom would say yes to you being captain. You should be on the debate team!” Jane suggests.
”Nah. Art is my true passion. But Mock Trial would be a good thing to do,” I say.
“I got to go guys, I’ve got a date,” I say.
While I’m walking to my dorm, I find a box with a note on it.
It reads:
A little gift for our date~
xo, jay
ps: trust me on this ;)
I take the box inside and I open it to find a multicolored striped bikini and a tangerine colored visor. I put this under it: https://pin.it/6I262UG and throw my hair in a ponytail.
I head over to Evie’s dorm and I suddenly get butterflies.
”E, I’m so fucking nervous you have no idea,” I say.
Evie stops sewing and puts her hands on my shoulders.
”Listen, that boy has called me and your brother about fifty times asking about you. He’s just as nervous as you are. But please, be the bigger person and chill. You’ve got this,” Evie advises.
I take a deep breath and I step in front of the mirror a start crying.
”Adri, what’s wrong?” Evie says, hugging me.
”I look so pretty! This isn’t fair. I haven’t been on a date in so long. I never thought I was gonna ever fall for someone else after Chad. But I think I was just lying to myself to hide my feelings,” I say.
”I promised him that you would be sexy,” Evie says.
We hear a knock at the door and my anxiety spikes.
”Hey, take a breath,” Evie advises.
I take a deep breath and Evie opens the door.
Get checked for melanoma – ProFootballTalk
Universal Pictures
I’ve written in the past about the importance of getting screened for colon cancer and for prostate cancer. There’s another form of cancer that entails screening without any sort of inserting.
I grew up years before parents began coating their kids in SPF 5000. As a result, I had more than a few sunburns, along with annual summer-long tans that didn’t fade until Thanksgiving. I’ve tried to balance that out as an adult by getting so little sun that I actually ended up with a Vitamin D deficiency.
Still, I worry that the damage has been done. I’m constantly on the lookout for any suspicious moles or marks or bumps.
Eight days ago, I noticed a discoloration on the side of my cheek. It was pink and it was raised and thanks to my smart phone’s camera magnification feature it looked like it was ready to body slam Godzilla. I quickly progressed through the “it’s nothing” to “maybe it’s something” to “it’s nothing” to “I bet it’s something” to “no, it’s nothing” to finally resolving to get it checked. So I texted my dermatologist and set up an appointment for Monday.
He instantly told me what it was (all I can remember is “not cancer”), and we agreed that I’ll get the thing removed via liquid nitrogen blast during the upcoming PFT Live hiatus.
Good. Great. Back to work.
But then he said, “While you’re here, we should check your back,” explaining that “a little paranoia can save lives.” So I shrugged and pulled up my shirt, confident that there’s nothing back there that would be problematic. He quickly reviewed the scattering of moles and then he paused when he got to the lower right side of my back and said something that made me immediately think, “Great. Here we go.”
He’d found an abnormal mole — maybe 3 millimeters in diameter — that gave him concern because he couldn’t see skin lines in the surface of the thing. He thought it could be melanoma.
Within a minute or two, after I successfully avoided having my bladder and/or bowels release right in the middle of his office, he’d stuck a needle in my back (I felt it) to numb the area and then shaved the thing off (I didn’t feel it) for testing.
I pressed him to be candid because I’d prefer to know as much as possible, as soon as possible. He said he was 80 percent certain that it’s nothing. I was hoping for much better odds.
He could tell I was going to be out of sorts until the answer came, so he expedited the testing and he said he’d text me with the results on Thursday. I knew it was going to be a long three days.
On Monday, I spent way too much time researching melanoma and the treatment of its various stages. I learned a lot about the importance of catching it and removing it before the cells begin their silent journey inward, ending up in all sorts of places that are far removed from the skin and doing far more damage than a mole should be able to do. I felt stupid for not having my back checked more frequently.
So Monday became Tuesday and Tuesday became Wednesday and Wednesday became Thursday and after PFT Live on Thursday I checked my phone every three minutes from 9:00 a.m. ET to 4:30 p.m. ET for a text that either said “you’re fine” or “you’re not fine.” Then, after 4:30 p.m. ET, I went through 20 minutes of debating whether to text him, convinced that it was bad news and that he was delaying letting me know.
Eventually, I texted. And then I tried not to obsess over how long it would take for him to respond. Not long after I sent the text, he did: No melanoma.
Moving forward, my wife will be check my back once per month, and I’ll be visiting the dermatologist twice per year for formal screening.
Everyone out there should do the same, especially if (like me) you’re on the wrong side of 40 or (also like me) on the wrong side of 50. Get checked by a doctor at least once per year, and get your back checked by someone who has the misfortune of living with you once per month.
Some of you will say I should #sticktofootball, but If only one person out there decides to get checked and finds an early stage melanoma that is quickly cured, the past three days of worrying about it will have been well worth it.
returning to the shore
The Argent Crusade had loaned them all hippogryphs. Rythien stepped off his and nearly fell flat on his face, swearing viciously enough that a nearby gnome winced. The Broken Shore lived up to its name; the ground was patchy and uneven, full of irregular slabs of ancient masonry which would have been easily traversable to a man with two good legs.
Rythien wasn’t that man any longer. As he hissed and rubbed his back, hastily dismissing the shadow tentacles that had hauled him upright, he spared a fleeting note of thanks that at the very least he did most of his fighting from horseback. This time, I’ll be smarter about it. I won’t let that happen again; I can’t believe I was that fucking stupid the first time.
(It had been an accident, but—he remembered the fall, the wrenching tear, the pain, how he would have died anyway if Bill hadn’t picked him back up. Never again. He’d never get injured by something so stupid again.)
“—You okay, babe?”
He made himself smile at his husband, but he could tell it was a poor effort. “Yeah, I’m fine. Can you give Seth a call, let him know we’re on the Shore and haven’t died yet? I’m gonna see if the Crusaders are here, I think I see Reginald’s armor.”
“Sure.” As Bill rummaged in his saddlebags for the spare communication crystal, he added, “And take your cane.”
Cane in hand, he picked his way down to the camp below. There’d been an effort to keep the streets free of obstacles, but there were so many soldiers and adventurers making Deliverance Point their new home that he was still forced to whack a few shins that got in his way. He used Reginald’s armor as a signpost; the Forsaken crusader was addressing his troops from horseback, for once raising him above the crowd. Despite what it signified—the Crusade wasn’t wasting a shred of time avenging their fallen, and soon he’d probably be joining the fray by their side—Rythien couldn’t help but feel a little relieved at the sight.
The Light is with us. We will not falter. Not again. Reginald’s speech seemed to be over; Rythien raised his voice over the chatter of passing soldiers to call out to him. “Hey! Glad to see you made it here alright.”
Reginald half-turned in his saddle, raising his helm and an eyebrow. “Was that a concern?”
He couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he approached, scratching behind Demosthenes’ ears when the gelding lowered his head to investigate his pockets. “You gotta admit, some of the stuff we heard over the comm was a little worrisome. Just a bit—no, horse, I do not carry sugar cubes. Stop that.”
Reginald sighed. “It was only regular combat, the sort we are trained for. Tanryn just tends to forget to turn her communicator off.” He paused. “As do you, though Aya does wish me to extend her thanks for the impromptu sermon.”
He felt heat crawl up his ears, and rubbed them awkwardly. “Right. That was an accident, but in my defense Anchorite Gesslar did ask how we do things in Silvermoon.” He scanned the crowd for Argent tabards. “Where are Aya and Tanryn, anyway?”
“Aya is…” He paused. “Dealing with the other healers.”
“…That bad, huh?”
Reginald winced. “Last I saw, there were three priests, a monk, and two druids—and her—having a quite spirited debate on the proper treatments of fel toxins. I left them to it. As for Tanryn, I’m…actually, now that you mention it, I am not entirely sure where she went off to. I would check the outskirts of the camp, she seemed to be in a…mood.”
He nodded. I can’t blame her. Not after the first assault. “Gotcha.” A flash of white behind Reginald caught his eye, and he cleared his throat. “Uh, Reg? I think your troops are about to charge off without you.”
“Blast!” Reginald turned and nudged Demosthenes into a trot, calling back over his shoulder, “We’ll be in touch!”
“Yeah—“ Before he could add a blessing—walk in the Light or Light be with you or any of the words you said before a potential battle—Reginald was gone in the crowd, and Ryth sighed at the space where he’d been. I should see if I can find Tanryn. Check up on her. After all, that was what you did for a friend, and he liked to think, after facing the Nighthold together, that he and Tanryn were finally something like friends—even if she did complain, loudly and at length, whenever he used shadow magic too close to her, she had never actually punched him for it. And he was pretty sure she’d finally forgiven him for taking possession of a saint’s holy relic for a family heirloom.
Now, if I were Tanryn, where would I be? His steps carried him away from the crowd, past a contingent of death knights (none of whom were bearing scorch marks, so he guessed Tanryn wasn’t among them), around a gaggle of arguing Illidari, and down a packed-earth ramp leading to the shoreline. For the moment he was alone, and took the opportunity for a deep breath. It was easier to center himself here, easier to think.
And easier to hear the faint sounds of someone trying very hard not to cry, followed by the thud of a gauntleted fist on stone. When he focused, he could feel the Light around her wavering in a way he recognized as an impending outburst. He winced, knocking his cane against the cliff face as he approached the source. Better to give her time to compose herself.
“Tanryn?”
She’d curled herself between a boulder and the cliff rearing up on their left; when she looked up, wiping her face on her cloak, her eyes were red. “Th’fuck do you want?”
There was space for him to sit down next to her if he squeezed in and didn’t mind plate jabbing him in the ribs. He didn’t, so after a moment’s internal debate he took a seat in the dust. “Nothing, I just like knowing where the portable Sunwells are.”
“Pft.” She reached over, knuckling his shoulder. “I’m not that glowy.”
He couldn’t help but chuckle. “Bullshit you’re not, you’re like a little lightning bug—ow!”
While he rubbed his shoulder, she glared at him. “Lightning bug? You shut your face.”
Mood successfully averted…for now. He shrugged, glancing away. “It’s…strange, isn’t it? Being back here.”
She took a slow breath, gaze focused on her boots. “…Yeah. It won’t—be like the last time, I—”
The hiccup in her voice filled him with dread; to his horror, he looked up in time to see tears leak out of the corner of her eyes. He reacted without thinking, one arm wrapping around her shoulders to pull her into a firm hug. “Damn right it won’t be. Now we’re prepared; now we know what we face, and we’re going to bring the full fury of the Light down on the Legion. They don’t have a chance. They’ll be nothing but ashes on the wind, and our comrades will be avenged.” He sucked in a breath; she was sniffling angrily into his chest and it filled him with reflected rage. “We have Velen. We have the Illidari, we have the full force of every adventurer ever to lift their weapons for Azeroth. And we’ve got you, and the rest of the Crusade. We will make the Legion bleed.”
She pulled away, rubbing her face with the back of her hand. To his deep relief, she didn’t seem about to burst into tears anymore. “When you say it like that, I believe you. They must really go in for oratory at the Silvermoon seminaries.”
He cracked a smile, heaving himself upright with his cane for balance. Shadows would have been easier, but not with Tanryn so near. “You people in Stormwind had it easy, lemme tell you. C’mon, let’s get going, I think you might be needed by the healers before it comes to blows.”
She was much more graceful, rolling smoothly to her feet and sighing as she gazed up the ramp. “Great. Okay, work will help.” She paused, turning to look up at him. “And if you tell anyone you caught me going all sniffly, I will fucking smite your dick off.”
“Hey, rude!...but also, fair.” He patted her pauldron. “I was the same way after I got home from the Shore the first time. The first time my leg buckled I wanted to cry and then murder something, you know that feeling. Drink plenty of water, it helps with the post-crying headaches.”
“…Thanks.” She smiled, faint and watery. “You make a good priest, you know.”
He blinked after her as she trotted ahead of him. “…I try?”
Huh, he thought, I guess it’s working.
The Linc - Kobe Bryant shared a funny anecdote about Nick Foles
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Four Downs: Everyone stays in their lane - BGN Earlier in the week I noted that the Eagles are, far and away, having the best offseason of the division. That guarantees nothing, but there’s little reason to believe that the Eagles aren’t the best team in the division. I sat on it for a couple of days because I figured a division rival would do something stupid. I should have waited a bit longer, because later that same day the Redskins signed Ereck Flowers. I am laughing as I type that. Not to some minimal signing bonus, non-guaranteed contract in a “hey this guy was a first rounder and we’ve got a pretty good position coach what’s the harm” type of deal. That would be defensible. No, they gave him a $3 million one year contract and guaranteed half of it. For a guy who couldn’t cut it on two 5-11 teams last year. They did sign another former first rounder to a no guaranteed money deal though: Marcus Smith. Yes, that Marcus Smith. If the Cowboys had a 1st round bust they’d probably have signed him too, though there’s still time to trade for Taco Charlton.
NFC East free agency grades: Eagles edition - PhillyVoice Part of the reason Michael Bennett was traded was because his personality clashed with some in the organization, I’m told, and apparently he graded out poorly against the run.
Josh Jacobs - Iggles Blitz Obviously you can’t say for sure what the Eagles should do since we don’t know who will be on the board. I like Jacobs quite a bit, but if a uniquely talented DT like Ed Oliver is somehow there, I’m taking Oliver without a doubt. Then again, we don’t even know if Jacobs will be on the board at 25. Daniel Jeremiah had him rated seventh in his latest Top 50 rankings. I don’t see Jacobs going before 25, but never say never. Teams down in the 20’s can do some crazy things at times. I do think the Eagles have to strongly consider Jacobs if he is on the board. Normally I’m not a big believer in taking RBs in the first round, but Jacobs is an interesting case. He is 220 pounds and a tough, physical runner. He’s also a gifted receiver.
Lawlor: How do Eagles stack up in new-look NFC East? - PE.com You can argue that the Giants were adding resources as they try to rebuild. OK, there is logic to that. Their roster needs help. There is one big problem, though. They kept 38-year-old Eli Manning around. He is not part of the future. The Giants think they are doing the right thing by keeping their veteran quarterback and two-time Super Bowl winner around. They think he can help young players develop while giving the team a chance to win games. It should be noted that in the last six years, the Giants and Manning have one winning season. The Giants also traded their best pass rusher, Olivier Vernon, and let their best defensive back, Landon Collins, walk in free agency. Again, the goal is to add talent, not lose it.
When the NFL Gives Away Draft Picks, You Better Take Them - Sharp Football It’s no surprise that two of the smartest teams over the last decade at understanding how to build winning rosters (Bill Belichick and Ozzie Newsome) are at the top of this list. It’s also no surprise that when you look back at the last 5 teams that have won a Super Bowl (New England, Philadelphia, Denver, Seattle and Baltimore) that 4 of the 5 teams dominated the comp pick process. The lone team that did not (Philadelphia) didn’t receive comp picks from 2015-2018. (Note that Howie Roseman didn’t reassume control from Chip Kelly until 2016, and needed to take some time to settle the roster.) By letting 2018 free agents walk, they received 2 comp picks in the 2019 draft and by letting 2019 free agents walk, they are set up to receive the #1 most draft value from the 2020 comp picks. Now that the roster is more settled, Roseman clearly appears to be focused on exploiting this rule when possible.
Eagles Mailbag: Faith in Nate Sudfeld, Vinny Curry signing, spreading it around - NBCSP I got a few questions about Nate Sudfeld this week and I certainly understand why. He’s now the Eagles’ backup quarterback and Carson Wentz has finished the last two seasons on the shelf. I think there are legitimate reasons for concern. From the time the Eagles got Sudfeld, I thought he was a possible QB2. The problem here is that he is unproven; we haven’t seen much of him outside of summer practices and minimal game action. It’s somewhat of a gamble for a team with Super Bowl aspirations to go into a season with an unproven backup, especially because of Wentz’s injury history. But, to be clear, I like what I’ve seen from Sudfeld. He seems to be pretty athletic and has a big arm. The Eagles have shown how much they like him at every turn. This is one of those situations where I’m skeptical, but just kind of trust their evaluation.
The Bizarre Path of the NFL Draft’s Most Unlikely Sleeper - MMQB He got good enough to warrant interest college programs, but Liggins wasn’t interested in playing college football, instead looking into a military career. That summer he had a change of heart. Rather than reaching out to big-time programs he called the coach at NAIA Dickinson State, in Dickinson, North Dakota, one of the only schools that haddn’t harassed him for initially not wanting to play college football. He ended up becoming the school’s best defensive player. Now, the cornerback is a hidden NFL draft gem in the process of being unearthed. From a training facility in Mesquite, Texas, where he’s currently working out, he’s already talked to more than a dozen NFL teams, including the Jaguars, Broncos, Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, Saints, Ravens, Cardinals, Buccaneers and Browns, despite not attending a single all star or bowl game. The 6’ 2”, 205-pound Liggins was receiving some heavy interest from one NFC West team, so much so that the team sent him their playbook so he could get acclimated to it.
In injury-shortened pro day, Delaware safety Nasir Adderley impresses in front of Eagles personnel - PennLive Adderley jumped 38 inches in the vertical leap, posted 19 reps in the bench press and covered 10 feet, 9 inches in the broad jump. He pulled his hamstring during the 40-yard dash, but Delaware said he ran 4.54 seconds. He also checked in at a shade under 6 feet tall and 203 pounds. Eagles safeties coach Tim Hauck was among the representatives from Adderley’s hometown team at Delaware’s athletic facilities Friday. There were scouts and coaches from many other teams, too, like Detroit Lions defensive backs coach Brian Stewart and Oakland Raiders scout Raleigh McKenzie.
Former Eagles TE Clay Harbor eyeing NFL comeback | ‘I still have a passion for the game’ - NJ.com At this point last year, Harbor was a contestant on “The Bachelorette”. He was coming off a lost season with the New Orleans Saints, as he spent the entire campaign on injured reserve with a wrist injury. Ironically, Harbor re-injured his left wrist while playing football during the taping of the reality show. He tore a ligament in the wrist, forcing him to rehab the injury as NFL teams entered their offseason programs. Despite his ailment, Harbor received interest from a few teams prior to training camp. His first visit was with the Buffalo Bills. Harbor suffered a minor abdominal injury during the workout in Buffalo, so the Bills passed on signing him. Due to the new injury, Harbor was unable to work out elsewhere and spent the rest of the season unemployed.
Right or wrong Giants GM Dave Gettleman is doing what should have been expected - Big Blue View Angry. Confused. Disappointed. Anguished. Frustrated. Resigned. Bitter. Disillusioned. Whatever word or words you want to use to describe them, I have been thinking a lot about the emotional state of many New York Giants fans recently, especially in the wake of the organization’s decision to send Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns. Many in the media haven’t helped, with their poison pens turned menacingly in the direction of Dave Gettleman, who some might think of as the crazy old man in charge of making personnel decisions for the Giants.
Cowboys free agency: George Iloka set to sign with Dallas Cowboys - Blogging The Boys Safety was one of the biggest needs that Dallas was facing when the offseason began. Bringing in Iloka hardly prohibits them from still drafting one, or even signing another in free agency, but it does lessen the need to a degree. This is a great move to give the Cowboys options at places where they need them.
The statistical argument for trading down in the draft - Hogs Haven In the first two rounds, trade back: The general rule of thumb from this analysis is that teams with first round or early second-round picks should be happy to trade down in the draft if the terms of the trade reflect the NFL Trade Value Chart, and that teams holding picks in the middle rounds (3 - 6) should be hesitant about trading them away to move into the top-50 if the terms of the trade are based on the Chart.
Nick Foles gets more than $45 million fully guaranteed at signing - PFT Without per-game roster bonuses, the deal has a base value of $85 million over four years ($21.25 million per year). If he’s on the 46-man roster for all 64 regular-season games, the deal becomes worth $87 million ($21.75 million). The maximum value of the deal (if he earns all incentives, an extreme long shot) is $101 million. The practical guarantee is $50.125 million because the Jaguars can avoid the $5 million roster bonus only by cutting him after one season, which would mean that he will have received $45.125 million for one year with the team. Which surely won’t happen, even though the Jags cut quarterback Blake Bortles after only one year of his most recent deal.
Why the NFL proposed replay rule modifications, and what happens now - ESPN It’s true. After months of discussion and debate, the NFL’s competition committee has no answer for the officiating mistake that marred last season’s NFC Championship Game. There apparently will be no safety net in 2019 if and when two highly graded officials fail to penalize an obvious pass interference foul happening a few feet away. This is maddening and begs for future trouble. But while the committee is punting on that specific problem, it has nevertheless proposed an unprecedented rule change that would address some of the highest-impact officiating mistakes of recent years. If approved -- and to be frank, it will be a tough hurdle -- the league would add pass interference fouls to its list of reviewable plays for one season. The proposal would represent a massive shift in philosophy in its own right, and more importantly, would address a type of mistake that affects the outcome of games more than any other penalty.
10 dominoes that could fall if the Cardinals draft Kyler Murray - SB Nation So what happens if he is? Murray’s selection at the top of next month’s draft wouldn’t just impact the Cardinals, it would affect the plans of every team looking for a franchise passer in 2019. It would also push Josh Rosen out of his position as Arizona’s budding young starting quarterback and onto the trading block. Here’s how that could look, given what we know about teams’ draft needs and current assets so far.
