This is about to be weirdly specific but I just really love going to local hardcore shows. I'm new to them, but they really hit different to any other type of live music, and weirdly it's partially because of a feeling of solidarity and community with other fat people.

In the wider metal and hardcore scenes there can definitely be a culture of making heavier people feel like they don't belong in the pit or are a nuisance or the butt of jokes and stereotypes. But in my area, I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but the diy shows I go to are in these small rooms where everyone's against the wall with a big empty space in the middle for hardcore dancing and running side to side to get momentum to basically cannonball themselves into the other audience members at the sides lol, and I see such a difference where fat members of the audience just dance so exuberantly like I really don't see as much at big shows.

They join in on the cannonballing. They wear their loud alternative clothing and shout along and take up space and throw their fists. Fat and heavier musicians take off their shirts when it gets hot. I just see so much fat joy and self-expression every time.

I am a small fat so maybe bigger people have a different experience, and I've only been getting out to shows like this for the past year or so, but the vibe is just nice and never makes me feel self conscious for taking up space myself and makes me feel like I could join in on the dancing someday without being judged for being too big to participate :)

I don't use Facebook for anything except keeping in contact with our ferret breeder, who I've been talking to again to get (hopefully) another couple kits this summer. I also don't keep in contact with anyone I went to high school with--people who make up the majority of my FB friendlist.

So, in opening FB for the first time in years, I was extremely amused to find that a solid 1/4 of the people I liked enough to friend them on FB have come out as some flavor of trans. Some I suspected, some were a complete surprise. But they all look so happy now, and I'm so happy for them. <3

one thing about alt stuff is that the barrier to entry to being "goth" is truely so fucking low and yet people constantly limbo under the bar instead of stepping over it and wonder why they get called posers. like we're not asking you to move mountains here we're just asking you to find even one band under the umbrella that you like and to engage with the community a little bit. The fashion has truely so much overlap between goth punk and emo so very few people will care which one you call yourself based on your look and you just have to find a band you like. Dashboard Confessional screams a bit too much for your taste and Dead Kennedys is too loud? Guess what you're in luck the goths listen to something a little softer and weirder they call it dark wave or ethereal wave depending on the phases of the moon. Try out Clan of Xymox or Switchblade Symphony. Like truly the alt music scene is so fucking diverse there's gotta be something in here that you like. If not and you truly are a pop girlie then don't call yourself punk it's very easy.

Watching Andor and rewatching Rogue One for the first time in awhile had rebelcaptain soaring above all my other Star Wars ships in terms of personal rank. In my heart, no other Star Wars ship can compare to Jyn & Cassian. They never even kissed or "were together" but the connection they had was so strong. The way they gravitated toward each other and the way their expressions showed everything they felt about the other is enough for me to make them number one.
