There's very few arcs in G1 that are just confusing, and the only one I would truly classify as such would be Revolution. Even then, it only earns that because of its inherently confusing nature as a massive crossover event, but even missing all G.I. Joe context I was still able to connect with the characters. Yet somehow IDW isn't able to introduce a bunch of characters that we basically already know aside from some personality tweaks and get the plot moving. Even coming into G1 as someone who has never been able to sit through any cartoons and only knew Optimus Prime and Megatron, the witty name placards that accompanied new characters for a couple of issues after their introduction were more than sufficient. The Tolkien-level bulk of information is unnecessary and chewy as hell.

I mentioned Warcraft because it's Metzen's baby. At least it was, before he left Blizzard. Thrall is basically his self-insert. His writing and concepts are familiar to me in an exhausting kind of way, like a D&D dudebro who thinks that his character concept of a brooding and tortured machiavellian antihero with a dream of peace is unique and keeps dropping heavy hints for the party to ask about his tragic backstory. His Megatron was bland and inconsistent, but it was better than the manbaby that G2 is doing.

I really hope that it does improve, I want to have a reason to read them, but unless they start getting into the actual plot here within the next twenty issues (why aren't they there already?!), I might hard pass altogether. Still, having you pick out the best bits every month is something I look forward to.
