“Hm,” Parker hummed. “Anything else you can tell me about Dejan?”

Johns glanced around, lowering her voice a bit. “Apparently, he got slotted twice for some kind of psych-eval thing, they wanted to study him. Both the armchair’s lasted two weeks and one quit, the other offed himself.”

Parker’s face scrunched. “What is he? The joker?”

Johns laughed, and it turned into a wet cough. “He’s a piece of work apparently.”

“You’ve got your wires crossed between annoying and unsettling,” Albert said snidely.

“I’ve got a lot of wires crossed,” he took a drag, eyes roaming over Albert’s tensed posture and the way his hands had balled into fists. “Does it make you want to punch me?”

Yes, yes very much, Albert thought, but he didn’t say it outloud.

“Love it when he swears,” his tone turned conversational as he quirked a brow at Parker. “You ever jerked off in church?”

Parker deserved a medal for how straight she kept her expression. “Not the question I asked,” she said, flat.

The stranger pointed to the no-smoking sign with his cigarette. "I don't do well with commands," he said, shrugging unapologetically and taking a drag. "Sorry."

“The coffee was overkill,” he said.

“Drugging me--was overkill,” Albert said, all teeth. Dej watched them intently, with the look of someone who wanted them at his throat. Psycho.

“No, it was funny,” Dej corrected.

“Maybe the coffee was funny.”

Dej cackled. “Then laugh, pretty boy, I might believe you.”
