I might make a bigger post with quotes about this eventually, but there really is something about how the Vates, Osgar, the Disir, Finna, they all talk about Camelot's downfall as a part of the prophecy. Not only that, but they all know how close it is, especially Finna (due to the Catha guarding the information that says just that for hundreds of years).

And I can't help but think about how Camelot was never really threatened? Like sure, if they failed at Camlann it could have fallen, but there's something about it as if... Camelot’s ruin was a destiny that could be thwarted and prevented, while Arthur’s death, which was what everyone was trying to stop (even the Disir arguably) was a fate so bound to the earth, so true, that any move to prevent it was a step closer to it happening.

Except, as much as Camelot was saved, it doesn’t survive forever. It becomes a legend, and Merlin lives to the modern day – a modern day that presumedly reflects our own.

Which brings me to an alternative interpretation: As Camelot flowers, the seeds of her destruction are being sown – because one day it will be no more.

I think much of the prophecies in BBC Merlin are simply talking about the wrong time. They think they know, but they have no idea of the larger scope of it all. Sure, uniting Albion, Arthur’s downfall, Mordred’s, Morgana’s, they were set for a certain time. But Camelot’s destruction? Hell, returning magic?

Maybe the prophecies were talking about a different age, and the seers across the centuries just got it wrong. We don’t even know how much it was known that Merlin was immortal, sure it says it in the name Emrys, but nobody talks about it until Balinor does in the Crystal Cave.

It seems as if the interpreters of the prophecy hoped that it would happen in the time when Emrys and the Once and Future King were born, but what if it was just that? Hope? What if it was always meant for the modern day we know now?

What if… even those who thought they knew, like Alator, like Finna, had no idea? What if the Disir were simply playing their part to ensure Arthur’s downfall would be right on time? What if the tragedy that followed was just to arrive at a better time, at a time where Camelot’s destruction came and went, at a time where magic is needed most?

It’s just the continued assertion that Camelot will fall from everyone knowledgeable about the prophecy in Series 5… it makes me think it’s talking about a future they cannot conceive of. And if that’s the case, then what else was never meant to happen in their time?

Given that we're halfway through the series, how well do you think msi is doing ?

because i'm an overthinker and msi is on my mind 24/7 so i have interpreted this question into three different ways and i'll be answer all three below.

1. how well do you think msi is doing (in terms of portraying the characters and the plot of the original novel, speaking on a personal capacity)?

this series leaves me on the edge of my seat every damn week. everything is WORKING FOR ME. i love the character designs, the adaptational changes, the pacing... my only grievance? occasionally i absolutely detest their hairstyles (whoever hairstyled sol and joe for sol's mv should get fired, real). i also dislike the fact that they usually layer ming's outfits, when i think they should just let him wear one layer of shirt for example in this behind the scene still for that confrontation scene he's just wearing a black shirt but it looks soooo goood, this picture most likely taken when they're rehearsing.

but let's go through bit by bit

character designs: i think like other novel readers, i was a bit wary of the toning down/softening of novel!yanmingxiu, but i think it worked in favor of the series as a visual medium, coupled with them also making joe seemingly more naive than novel!zhouxiang. it balances well to have a not as cruel ming with a puppy-like/happy go luck joe 1.0. i really like in a recent reaction video where up, poom and porsche were reacting to ep.7, poom says he's happy to see so many people curse ming because it meant that he's doing well playing a scum male lead and praised up for playing such a compelling "bad" character because he thinks if it weren't for a such scum ml, his character 'joe' wouldn't come off as pitiful.

adaptational changes: i understand that translating a novel to series is a huge challenge, especially since thai series does not have a tendency to insert inner thoughts as much as japanese series does or the way audiodrama can do so but my stand in is doing so well utilising the flashbacks or blocking/cinematography to showcase the emotions of these characters so i've been loving most changes so far. they're also making changes that i love to see (novel!yan ming xiu throwing a tv remote at zhou xiang when he said something that upset him, reading that i was like bruh was that necessary?!?!!?!?).

pacing: it's really good, with my only grievance being they should make the eps longer in length. contrary to the complaints i'm seeing about how they're making audience wait to long until the huge reveal, i think it's fair and i'd actually like to see ming grovel a bit more before finding out that joe 2.0 is joe 1.0 because or else it wouldn't make sense to me why he would be so invested in getting invovlved with joe 2.0 if he wasn. most eps so far have been condensed from 10 chapters, with the biggest exception being ep 7 being adapted from 16 chapters (chapter 60-75) but i like that they simplified that plot with tharn/novel!tanyin without completely eliminating it. perhaps the only thing i regret being left out is ming crying out to joe's name after having sex with joe 2.0 but since the series went with ming not having sex with joe 2.0 in ep 7 yet so we didn't get it. anyway, ready for more ming/blind master shenanigans this week.

2. how well do you think msi is doing (with chinese fans/novel fans)?

so just recently, the weibo supertopic of my stand in hit 23,000 followers and the douban score for my stand in hit 8.8 (it debuted with a 6.8 score in the first ep btw). while douban scores for bl/foreign dramas tend to bit higher than the average scores for cdramas, this is still a huge feat considering how it's being adapted from a popular danmei novel and how bad the initial reception to the casting announcement was. it is HUGE!

after last week's episode the scores really skyrocketed due to the two scenes, the hotel verbal fight scene and the back reveal. it's also a relief to see how both scenes are well received because they're very different from how they were executed in the novel, so i think this is a good sign of how novel fans have warmed up to the adaptation changes (if anyone is interested, feel free to read chap 73 for that confrontation and chap 74+75 for the back reveal).

also cfans seem to really be into up poompat's portrayal of yan ming xiu these days, most are ready to forgive him while simultaneously still want to watch him suffer for the rest of the series. everyone and their mother loves poom as joe/zhou xiang but they have been loving and praising poom since ep 1 so that's not really new.

3. how well do you think msi is doing (in terms of trending, general viewership and popularity)

i think my stand in is doing crazy well considering its genre (dogblood drama featuring a scum male lead). regarding trending, the number of tweets is increasing weekly and it's stable at 4th/5th place like every week and considering is up against TWO QL series of two popular established branded pairings (EngLot with Love Bully, GemFourth with My Love Mix Up TH) and the hottest lakorn series of the year (Dhevaprom), I think it's already achieving the best possible results in terms of trending (cfans are also wishing that my stand in would be more popular considering how dramatically dogblood and lakorn-coded MSI is ಥ_ಥ)

But I think it's more important for iQIYI that it's ranking #1 worldwide iQIYI consecutively for the last seven weeks since its their "first" Thai original (i actually thought My Dear Gangster Oppa is their first, turns out not 😅). Being up against all those beautiful costume/historical cdramas and still ranking #1??????

also i can't speak on behalf of other fans but the sole fact that the main topic on my twitter timeline every weekend is how pitiful joe is/how terrible ming is/how up and poom are DELIVERING the breakthrough performances of their careers? i think regardless of the end result of this series, it's definitely a remarkable BL series of 2024 and i'd honestly call it the dark horse among the 2024 BL releases considering how lowkey and underwhelmed the initial hype it had.

the morning after debrief: (personal life below cut):

last night i went out with my best friend (let's call her Ken) and our friend. I was sitting in my bed planning out KYH and Lovestruck, being a diligent writer then my friend Star (that's what i'll call her) calls me at 6pm, telling me how she just got dumped by her ugly (now ex) bf. I was like oh hell no, we are going out!! The groupchat is formed. this is whole new group to go out with. so i get ready and start think about how my ex boyfriend hasn't texted me since tuesday. last night was to make our 3 ex boyfriends jealous. I go pick up drinks to pregame and still thinking about my ex (naming him Jay). i get to Star's apartment before Ken got there. me and star update each other since it's been months since we hungout. i tell her about Jay, like everything about our history, updated her how i slept with my friend and i'm kinda in the talking stage with a guy in an open relationship. she tells me everything with he ugly bf, and how she's making her new roster of hoes. Ken gets there and she's really excited to go out. I declare we all need pictures because oh my god we are so hot. I was the first one to go and my pics came out so good. (here they are, shameless insta-promo). i can't shut tf up about Jay and how much i wanted to see him again. everyone telling me to just text him. and i always deny that anyone wants to see me

we get an uber to the first club, it was dead for a friday night, Ken goes home because she had work in the morning. Star and I go to another bar, I am drunk at this point and so is star. we order a round of drinks. then the bartenders start pouring shots into people's mouths, i do the shot. and then they brought out champagne and started pouring it into my mouth, it was actually reallly good. star and i are talking about boys and then show her Jay and our texts. She takes my phone and sends a text for me. Now even a second goes by and he says "just got home you should head over" i look at star and show her the texts. and she's like oh we getting you over there. i start to sober myself up in the bathroom, and drinking a vitamin water. we get an uber back the apartment and star is texting one of her hoes to come over, i freshened up before heading downtown to Jay's.

i show up at his door, knock, the door swings open to him. we both say 'hey', he pulls me through the door and pushes me against the wall as soon as i stepped through the threshold. it was so hungry and oh my goddddd i swore that i was getting drunk again but off of him. he smells soooo goood, and he's a personal trainer ;) so he picks me up and takes me to his room. he sets me on the bed, and just looks at me. I could feel myself blush. "are you instagram posts about me?" jay was smirking, still just raking his eyes over my body. i panic for a sec and quickly lie and say that i'm just hopeless romantic and i just like love. he buys it for now. we have sex, both of us tired and talk until we fall asleep.

he helds me in his arms the whole night, i laid there for about 2 hours and just looked at his face, remembering how he used to look when we were younger. i get hit with feelings that i am trying to suppress, because i'm trying to be causal with him. trying not to scare him away. i fall sleep eventually, listening to him breath and snore just a little. he's pulling me in closer anytime he moves in his sleep.

i wake up to him kissing my neck, and caressing my legs. no words spoken when we both start making out and having a good session of morning sex, we lay in bed for hours just talking, i think my favorite conversation we had was talking about sleeping with friends exes. he was like "techincally that what we are doing," refering to my two exboyfriends that he was friends with, and how he's two of my friends ex's too. then i said "well and we are two exes seeing each other", i tell him how my friends know about him, he was like "you talk about me?" with a smile on his face, and then having sex until we both had to get ready for our days. I had to go home and get ready to see my friends for a debrief. he had to go visit his dad and go workout.

Beautiful day at the pit. Made some lobsters and Filet Mignon it’s a late Valentine’s Day dinner celebration cause our weekdays are so packed. I cleaned the pit and made smoked trout for lunch while the girls played monopoly and Athena lost apparently by the picture.
