A thing that I think about a lot in DDMG is the Turtles and the rest of the extended family buying Splinter clothes, and how their tastes in fashion ends up getting reflected in the outfits Rat Dad wears.

I think the second winter the boys know Splinter, they save up money and get him a thick jumper and some warm trousers.

Splinter doesn't really know what to say to this, and his brain goes straight to "These are orphaned children who don't get much of an allowance and these clothes are good quality. How much did these cost? What did my sons give up to afford this?"

Which prompts a conversation, because Splinter didn't feel he could accept it in good conscious, and look, the tags are still on, you could take them back and spend the money on something you four want. And the answer he gets is that they're not going to take the clothes back, because they wanted to get him something.

The trousers need some adjusting so his tail can fit, but they fit surprisingly okay. The jumper is good too, but his proportions are weird and he's tall as hell, so the Turtles went a size above what they thought he'd need, so whilst it's long enough and fits well everywhere else, it keeps slipping off one of his shoulders.

One day, when Raph is in the city, he finds someone selling Ratman merch and can't resist getting Splinter a hoodie. Splinter is mortified but still wears the damn thing because his son got it for him (and it's really soft and comfy, and he ends up chewing on the strings to stim).

Casey gets Splinter heavy metal and punk band t-shirts, and doesn't know how to feel when Splinter actually wears them. Like she's seen him wear the stuff Raph buys him, but at the same time Casey really didn't expect Splinter to actually, like, put the shirt on.

Robyn, Casey's little sister, is quite young, so she just picks stuff that makes her think of her rat uncle. These also get worn, even if the colour she selects aren't something Splinter would chose for himself, but it makes his niece happy. As long as the material isn't too smooth it's all good.

Whenever Kirby goes through his wardrobe for things he doesn't wear anymore, he'll give anything he thinks Splinter would like/ will fit to him. This is how Splinter gets a lot of cardigans. Kirby, April and Mikey also form team "Let that old man be comfy" and get Splinter as many warm jumpers as they can. Mikey tries to find brightly coloured stuff for Splinter, whereas April is like "I think this is cute!"

Donnie is responsible for the overalls, and Leo the short sleeved button up shirts and to be honest anything practical. Tseng gets Splinter Hawaiian shirts, saying it's part of Splinter's old man training.

Socorro ends up in a years long battle with Splinter over the issue of wearing shoes. Her argument is it'll stop him walking on broken glass again, his is that shoes are sensory hell and he'd rather chew his own leg off. The battle is won when these two remember sandals exist. Socorro does not bother with slippers, and settles instead for "You need a warm winter coat." "I AM LITERALLY A FIRE GHOST."

Generally speaking they all try to pick out clothes in dark colours, or maroon, because his kimino is that colour and he seems to like it. There's also a lot of green after they find out its his favourite colour.

Also they find out Splinter really likes scarfs and half-finger gloves, so he has a ton of them. Most of those are from Raph, who learns how to knit and crochet, but the rest of the family will bring Raph wool in different colours so he can make fun patterns and stuff. He learns how to make dragon scale gloves, makes some modled off godzilla, which results in a lot of happy stimming from rat dad.

His wardrope ends up having a lot of skirts too, because those are easier to adjust so his tail fits okay than trousers, and sometimes it's nice to have new clothes you can just wear straight away and not have to tailour yourself.

It's also worth mentioning that Splinter does not separate these styles out and just wears whatever is most comfy/ he feels like that day.

Also he knows how to embroider, so chances are at least some of his clothes get hand stitched designs on them. Same goes for his sons' clothes, cause if they have something that needs fixing he tries to make the mend at least look nice. Leo's jeans end up having so many stars on them from when Rat dad had to patch them and tried to make it look good.

If someone doesn’t want to interact with someone who likes or stans billy, they don’t have to? Just ignore their posts if you don’t like it. We are all entitled to our own opinions but that doesn’t mean posting screenshots of other people’s tweets is gonna make a difference. Half of what people have said isn’t even that bad. Honestly if it bugs you that much don’t even bother looking under anti-billy. and can you tag properly? i don’t want to see this shit under the nancy or max tag.

My response to this ask is the FINAL part in my case 4 Rat-man lol 😂 Which is a series that dives into Billy’s character on my blog lol.

I made a podcast response to this ask because there’s is a lot to criticize in this reaction to my 5 part series calling out harassment of BLACK Billy Hargrove fans in the Stranger Things fandom. I’m calling out fandom racism and bullying. I also made a podcast response to this ask because I’m chaotic!That’s my best quality! The intention of my 5 part series calling out harassment was not to end online harassment but call out and encourage those who saw it not to participate in the harassment. If I wanted to call out harassment/start a discussion about the problems I face as a black Billy Hargrove fan why would I just ignore an echo chamber online that degrades me/ my fandom and calls me racist for liking a fictional character? I talked about a lot in my five part series and it’s has little to nothing to do with people just not wanting to interact with Billy Hargrove fans. It’s baffles me how you can’t see how more than half the things I critic in that series is just inexcusable treatment of others fans in fandom. If you don’t mind let me elaborate…

Introduction

I could talk about Billy Hargrove 4 days

He is my comfort character and I find great joy in talking about his character.

I also recognize and encourage that we all be aware there are much bigger problems in the world around us

that we should be focused on organizing and educating ourselves on.

I like engaging in the discourse around Billy because it gives me a break from all the chaos in my life at the moment.

The community is hilarious and very engaging

I find I’m able to relate to a lot of people in it on a personal level

However Even with all these pros there are still cons

I feel I should call out a problem when I see one and make resources available for those who do not want to directly contribute to fandom toxicity

I honestly understand that a lot people can’t handle the conversation because of how heavy it gets(I tagged my post for that reason) but that doesn’t mean the conversation shouldn’t be brought to light

I know not everyone has the capacity to challenge online harassment and no should have to challenge online harassment because it shouldn’t happen

But since it does I’ve decided to make a case for Billy and combat abuse as best as I can

so those who actually care for marginalized community members in the Billy fandom on tumblr will have more tools available to themselves

I’m aware my post will not stop harassment. Individual action is nothing in scale to a big system like that.

But since I have nothing better to do I wanted to make an argument available for Billy antis who struggle to understand Billy fans/ black Billy Hargrove fans in particular.

Okay now where should I begin with this ask

Not all the behavior I criticized was harmful. I even made it clear in my series that I’m not making a moral condemnation of anybody for the post they’ve made on tumblr. (Was anybody murder no this is not that big of a problem) I’m just criticizing people’s posts. Remember everything can be held up to scrutiny, even my arguments. Especially if they are accessible online however. I would not have crossed tag if a majority of the things I criticized weren’t me just calling out inexcusable behavior in the fandom. If you struggle to see how more than half of what I talk about is a problem I encourage further reflections on my argument.

We should allow and encourage marginalized people to call out something that makes them feel uncomfortable and speak their mind. Telling me to just shut up and leave the internet instead of being less cruel to each other Isn’t gonna solve anything. Especially cuz I don’t plan on leaving the internet anytime soon. And I’m not at fault for consuming something accessible to the public. Which means it can be criticized by the public. But people who go out to harass, antagonize, and be little Billy fans. Are at fault for creating a toxic internet environment by creating false notions about people they don’t know online because they like a fictional character.

Telling me to ignore a problem I call out is interesting to say the least

I’m entitled to stand against harmful and degrading opinions

Any opinions people have they are entitled to have

For example racist are going to hold and spread their racist opinions

But I’m not just gonna let racist commun among each and talk about why they hate black people because they’re entitled to their opinions. I will fight back. Let it be known I don’t tolerate that behavior

What I’m not gonna do is never question people opinions because they are ��entitled to them” or allow opinions that are accusatory to towards another group of people or degrading to just be online without resistance

There’s no problem with me calling out statements made available to the public and hiding people's identities to curb harassment just to discuss the ideology or behavior a certain post might be contributing to.

Yes! There are much bigger problems in the world. This is still a problem though.

There are people who are facing evictions, there’s a global pandemic, and there’s a looming climate crisis

However Online harassment and degrading your fellow human beings on the internet is still a problem…that creates a hostile environment for many Billy fans… and it’s not a problem to call that out and bring attention to it.

This is a problem sadly I wasn’t even able to bring attention to all of it

People literally call Billy fans racist, homophobic, abuser because they Stan a fictional character.

Let’s not even talk about Reddit

In the anti tags I should not go in there and see people wish death on fans of a character there’s no excuse for that even if it is your “opinion”

I should not go in anti and see a community of people, making degrading and belittling remarks towards real human beings. If I do see that in the anti tags that is called homing an environment, to where people make crude assumptions, bully,and make fun of people you don’t know on the internet. That's called harassment.

Sadly it is an internet phenomenon that’s not going away anytime soon

It not okay and I’m gonna let it be known I stand against it.

If you don’t want to interact with Billy fans that’s okay… I respect and understand your boundaries. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do… but you don’t need to go make mocking images of Billy fans… all you need to do is kindly communicate your boundaries, not belittle people in the process.

Once again a lot of those fucking “opinions” were calling all Billy fans racist… When you do that you start calling victims of a racist society,and organizers against a racist society, racist! And you do this all on the b.s. notion of them liking a fictional character. Yeah that’s your fucking opinion but it’s a hurtful misrepresentation of entire community made up of varying people.

I get where you are coming from with the cross tagging. It was probably the thing I was most hesitant about doing…however I didn’t go in any tag degrading anybody or any character… I only called out harassment. I know the person who asked the question doesn’t say anything like this but if you think me calling out the racism I face as black Billy Hargrove fan is offensive. I truly struggle at understanding why that is…I get the cross tagging thing for real though. I want antis to stay out of the Billy tag. Even though I see antis in the Billy tag all the damn time. I hope to not make it a habit. I only wanted to put my argument out there. I only did it to call out harassment so the wider st community on tumblr could see it because it’s not acceptable behavior. Also people who use the anti Billy Hargrove/ Harringrove tags probably use the other tags I added as well. I just wanted it to be as accessible as possible.

My intention was not to end harassment of Billy fans online …even though I want that to happen there’s no way my 5 part series on tumblr was gonna do that… my intention was to tell the people on tumblr who care about black Billy fans, Billy fans who are queer, victims of abuse, people around the same age as Billy was portraying in the medium, and any other Billy fans that can see themselves in Billy’s story. That engaging in what I critic will not be creating a safe environment for those fans and if you don’t want to do that stop and be nicer.

I’m very aware that some people will not care about what I talk about because people out there are racist, people out there don't care about victims of abuse, the mental state of other people in the fandom. I expect those people to continue making the internet a toxic place for everyone. But if you do care about marginalized Billy fans my post was for you. I believe you have every right to not like Billy as a character. However keep your fire and fury towards Billy and not the fans whose one crime was liking a fictional character. If you care about not being the direct cause of someone’s degradation…my post was for you.

I also want people making the posts I critic to know they aren’t fighting any problems they are creating one… no hate I don’t know who you are and you can legit grow from this… you just made some mean post on the internet delete them apologize move on if u don’t want to participate/aid in this behavior again. Online harassment is a large systematic issue meaning tumblr will always allow space for these toxic environments. Someone is going to be mean on the internet. Do you want it to be you?

Also Don’t you see how you responded to my post because it made you uncomfortable and instead of me saying just fuck off I tried to create a safe environment where I respect your personhood and we can start and introspective dialogue.Unlike those others posts I have not made a moral judgment on u I have only tried to commit to a dialogue.

I find it interesting to talk about Billy Hargrove and dissect the politics of his story arc of his character. I’m hoping to have the opportunity to do so without people calling me racist against my own race for liking a fictional character or abusive for liking a fictional character. Or any other crude assumptions they have no way of knowing based on what character I like.

Btw Yes Billy’s story arc is flawed but what media isn’t. Yeah I’m a Billy fan who likes to talk and defend this character. Ur telling me you don’t have any weirdly specific interests. Aren’t you on tumblr?

All in all, don’t get mad at people who call out bullying on the internet especially when they don’t come for anyone’s personhood, they stay respectful… even though the people they have called out have made belittling comments towards them. Don’t get mad at people for criticizing how humans position themselves online or how they treat other human beings online. Especially when I didn’t make anyone a target I was criticizing the position in certain posts. Also there’s no reason to come for the people who like Billy as a character because you don’t know the people who like Billy. Just come for Billy the character if you don’t like him. I was very kind and respectful because I realize antis are flawed human beings so see and understand Billy fans can be flawed human beings as well.

(Hopefully this is the only podcast response I ever have to do. But, Hey! let me know if you found it helpful tho… cuz if I ever do another I will up the quality.)

Homecoming

Chapter Eighteen

Axel Falkenrath glanced about the dusty streets for Senden, sticky-faced child in tow. This hunt had proven far more difficult than the others. He had left no clues, no traces, and yet somehow the Senden matriarchs knew to keep their little ones close, eyeing him warily as he approached. His fine clothes and aristocratic mien didn’t even help. He noted this, vowed to dress a bit more casual next time. He hated that there would need to be a next time, but it was sadly necessary. Every five years. The Falkenrath fortune depended upon it.

The child, whose name Axel had already forgotten, began to squirm and fidget, and Axel assured her that if she behaved he would shower her in sweets. He’d meant it, too. When Axel brought the girls to the basement, he provided them with a room brimful of every sugary delight he could find. Axel wanted them to experience luxury at least once in their miserable, short lives. He wasn’t a monster, after all.

When Gilbert Falkenrath had summoned his sons to his parlor for a meeting those twenty years past, neither could have ever imagined what he’d had in store. They had found him slumped over a bottle of grain alcohol, clammy and pale.

“I realize that I am asking a great deal,” Gilbert said. “But we can become wealthy beyond our wildest dreams. And with that money, we can counteract the deed, right? If we donate heavily to the local Order, it will even out.”

 Gilly, half-drunk already, grabbed his father’s spirits. “I dunno, Papa. I guess…”

 Axel knew that this was his moment. It was a grim job which required precision, subtlety, and cleverness; three qualities Axel’s oaf of a brother lacked. It was a horrible task to be sure, but Axel could show that he was capable; more so than Gilly. Gilly would only botch the assignment, anyway, getting them all set aflame in the town square.

 “I’ll do it,” Axel stated forcefully.

 “Axel’ll do it,” Gilly added.

And thus it was decided. The Beastmen got their sacrifice, the ratmen delivered a king’s hoard of scavenged gems, and the Falkenraths became ridiculously rich. It was terrifying in the beginning, when Axel had to deliver the quarry to an assigned meeting place in the forest. When Gretchen returned from Altdorf with her new talents, it became far easier. The Skaven offered even more wealth in exchange for a direct tunnel to the Falkenrath Manor, and Gretchen assured the family that she could vouchsafe the family’s safety with her magic. It was not a difficult decision. A handful of destitute children, paupers who would never be missed, never amount to anything…Axel was doing them and their families a favor, in the end. Twenty years on, and the pact still held.

Axel led the girl through alleyways, side-streets, until they reached the home stretch to Falkenrath Manor. They made it across the main road, into the courtyard, began to ascend the steps…

“Axel!”

Axel turned to find the visiting witch hunter captain striding toward him. The man’s attitude was genial, and Gretchen had bragged of bringing him to heel the night before, but the situation was still not ideal. The little girl cowered behind Axel’s legs. Genial or no, the hunter still cut a rather imposing figure.

“And who is this?” The hunter asked.

 “I saw the poor lamb languishing in filth, and thought that she may enjoy a nice meal and some treats.” Axel prided himself on his quick thinking. “It’s something I do from time to time, to give back, you see. I have been blessed with so much, and she…” He bent to stroke the girl’s greasy head, wiping his hand upon his trouser after. “She has so little.”

“A truly noble notion.” The hunter reached into his pocket and produced a gold. “Here, child. Run home to your parents. I have business I need to discuss with this kind benefactor.”

The girl goggled at the coin, more, probably, than her parents would see in weeks. The urchin snatched it quickly, and hugged it to her chest.

“Thank you, Sir,” she squeaked, and scampered off down the road.

Axel’s stomach fell. Luring the girl had taken the entire afternoon, and the offering was due that evening. He didn’t know what to do. There was no way he would find another proper child, not in time, and certainly not with this obnoxious hunter keeping tabs.

“I am pleased to have caught you,” the hunter began mildly. “I’d had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with your sister at the party, but I regretted not having had the opportunity to speak with you. Come, let us go meet with your father.” He produced a fine vintage of Bordeleaux from his jacket. “I did not get to properly thank him for his invitation last night, and I must remedy this oversight.”

Axel nodded. “Uh…yes, of course. Come in, please.”

Axel and the hunter were met by Axel’s father, white as a fish belly and skittish as a kitten. The hunter went into his spiel about the invitation, but Gilbert cut him off.

“Victor,” he babbled, waving his hands manically. “I cannot properly express my gratitude, but I fear this is a terrible time. I will gladly invite you tomorrow, but tonight it is imperative that I discuss business with my sons. We have had a major setback.” Gilbert took a deep breath and collected himself. “I’m sure you understand.”

Victor, eyebrow raised, tilted his head. “Very well! I shall see you tomorrow, then. I shall pray to Sigmar for a swift resolution to your issue.”

“That is much appreciated,” Gilbert ushered the hunter to the door, making sure to swipe the wine. “Until tomorrow.”

Once the door was sealed, locked and bolted; Gilbert dragged Axel into the parlor.

“Where the hell is the offering? In case you have forgotten, the transaction is scheduled for tonight!” Gilbert grasped Axel’s lapels and shook him.

“I had one, but the hunter sent her away just now!” Axel tore himself from his father’s grasp. “What the hell was I supposed to do?”

Gilbert nodded, running his fingers through his sparse hair. “Damn it all! Right, right…we have three hours. Perhaps you can still find another, maybe get that child back.”

“I suppose we have no choice,” Axel replied. “However, we have never been remiss in the past. Perhaps they will accept an alternate exchange, in case I am unsuccessful.”

“You had better hope they will,” Gilbert replied, uncorking the wine. “Our entire fortune depends upon it.”

 Axel scoured the streets of Senden, to no avail. No children lingered on their own, no parents dropped their guard upon his approach. He returned to the hovel where he had found the child from earlier, but both she and her family were gone. The light began to dim in the sky, and Axel frantically tore through the town, searching for any clue. He ran through the marketplace, in case any distracted parent could possibly be too involved in haggling to pay proper attention, but the square was clear, and the vendors were clearing their stalls for the night. He looked up to see the dumpy baker scrutinizing him. Axel scowled in response and moved on.

Finally, it became clear that he had lost his chance. Axel, dread and resignation weighing heavily in the pit of his stomach, trudged home.

“You have nothing???” Hysterical, Gilbert snatched a Cathayan vase from a table and hurled it to the floor. “What the hell were you doing?”

“I was searching for anything,” Axel yelled. “You think it’s so easy? You could have been scouring the streets with me instead of blubbering like a great pudding and drinking yourself blind.”

“I bet I coulda found something,” Gilly drawled, strolling into the room, glass in hand and silk robe tied loosely around his belly.

“Then you should have,” Axel spat. “Instead, you lay abed until noon dallying with the help.”

The town clock tolled seven. Gretchen peeked her blonde head into the room.

“Gentlemen, it is time,” she stated. “Wait, where’s the…”

“We don’t have it,” Gilbert grumbled, pushing past her. “Come. We need to meet with them regardless.”

The four silently made their way through the kitchen, through the passage, down the staircase, passing their hoard, and into the darkness. Gretchen waved a hand and the darkness faded, leaving a hallway. The hallway’s walls ended at the mouth of a tunnel, a passage of dirt and rock that twisted and turned into unfathomable blackness. The family Falkenrath stood and waited, jumping at every creak and squeak in the hallway, a pall of foreboding hanging heavy over them. A clattering and scrabbling echoed in the tunnel and the family reflexively drew closer together, standing stiff with terror as the din grew increasingly loud. The first thing they could discern was several sets of glittering black eyes, then the stench of unclean pelts. Creeping into the torchlight was a stooped grey ratman in filthy, tattered robes leaning upon a large gnarled staff. He was flanked by four huge armored rats with black fur, and a hulking, white-bearded Gor. They approached the family, sniffing the air and peering curiously at the humans. The Gor lurched forward, snuffling, and brayed in an annoyed sort of tone.

“He wants the offering, yes?” The grey rat hissed. “We do not see-see or smell-smell. You honor our pact, yes-yes?”

“We need another day.” Gilbert’s voice cracked. “Just one more day, and we will have what you need, I promise.”

The Gor snorted and stomped his hooves. The grey rat leaned forward until his whiskers tickled Gilbert’s cheeks. The Skaven’s nose twitched and wrinkled, and he retreated, grumbling to himself.

“Not good. Not good at all-all,” the grey rat harangued. “Our second burrow gone! Our breeder and squealers burnt! Our doomwheels broken, and my warlock dead-dead! You do this, humans???”

“Of course not!” Gilbert sputtered. “We had no idea, had we known, I never would have allowed…”

The grey rat poked Gilbert in his jiggling stomach with his staff. “You grow bored with pact, no want any more-more? You enemy now???”

“No, we are still allies, I swear! I had no idea!” Gilbert was close to tears.

“Hat men swarm woods,” the grey rat continued. “Find Gor camp! Elf-thing killed patrol!”

“That’s impossible, my spell still holds!” Gretchen exclaimed. “They could not possibly have found it!”

“Spell holds,” the grey rat explained. “They do not see. But they know. They will find, and then our pact OVER!”

“That will not happen,” Gilbert assured the rat. “We will figure out how to draw the hunters away. I swear, we had no idea. We are still your friends.”

“And now you come with hands empty!” The grey rat crowed. “No manling! Not acceptable!!!”

“If you just give us a little more time!” Gilbert pleaded. “I swear, we will have it tomorrow…”

The Gor bellowed, the walls shaking from the report.

“Man-child needed tonight!” The grey rat replied. “Gor-men do ritual! White moon dark, green moon big! Stars in right places! Must!” The rat stomped his paw. “Be!” *stomp* “Now!”

The Gor pointed at Axel, grunting in his bestial tongue. The grey rat muttered something to the armored rats, and they surged forward to seize him, their steel-clad paws clamping down, ripping into his biceps and nearly crushing his bones. After a second of utter shock, hysteria took hold. Axel thrashed and screamed, struggling uselessly in the iron grasp of the Stormvermin.

“WAIT!!!” Gilbert cried. “Dear god, what are you doing?!? I thought you needed a child!”

The Gor whuffed and snickered.

“Youngling is best, but any will do-do,” the rat translated. “You owe us, we take-take.”

“Papa!” Axel shrieked, his hands numb from the loss of circulation. “For the love of Ulric!”

“I beg of you!” Gilbert fell to his knees. “If that’s the case we can get anyone! Just give us an hour, we will get you someone! Please, please, just not my boy!”

“No more time.” The grey rat grinned, huge yellow incisors grinding with glee. “You can take his place…”

Terror and fury fought for dominance. Axel lost all control, seeing nothing but a blinding white rage, his throat raw and tight from his shrieks as the Stormvermin dragged him into the darkness.

“Do not fail us again,” the grey rat told the sniveling Gilbert. “And you…” He pointed his staff at Gretchen. “Your spell better keep. If not, we use tunnel to take your town-town! NOW!” The grey rat shambled back toward the tunnel. “Quiet that man-thing!”

The Gor brought a club down upon Axel’s crown, and the world fell away into nothingness.

An hour later, Axel awoke to blades, flame, and nightmare.
