#this isnt coming from the old mindset of “all technology is bad and everyone who uses social media is dumb”

You HAVE to love the moment after your phone dies and you are left hunched over the screen, your eyes deprived of the blue light to which they have grown accustomed, your mind deprived of the distraction from the horrors of your reality, to behold your own image (reverse Narcissus) in all its double-chinned, acne-scarred, chocolate-stained and cheeto-dusted glory, and horrified by who you have become, and you are full of guilt and (remorse) exhaustion, and you are (entirely, devastatingly) alone, and you blink, and you get up, and you (cry) (look in the mirror?) go plug in your phone and get some more cheetos
No, really, you have to love it. It's the law.
#i dont know what compelled me to write this#but#to be clear#this isnt coming from the old mindset of “all technology is bad and everyone who uses social media is dumb”#because that isnt true and never has been#this is coming from somebody with the kind of mild screen addiction that most people have#who generally enjoys being creative and using entertainment platforms and interacting with people online#but who is also somewhat frustrated with my relationship with my phone#and very frustrated by the way social media and videogames and screens in general are thought of and talked about in the world#screen addiction#phone addiction#relatable#is this relatable?#does anyone feel like this?#im whispering into the void#self awareness#i dont know#i have so much work to do#and my executives are dysfunctioning#i am having a Bad Go of it#its just#its been quite a month#you know?#maybe ill make a ventpost#later tho#all ye who find my ramblings here#have a good day#or night#or else

Theres a lot of infighting going on in the notes between people of the "ok boomer" mindset and the "tech bad" mindset. And as someone who has grown up alongside all of this tech, i need everyone to understand something.
The first Iphone was released in 2007.
Smart phones, as a technology, are only SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. this shit has barely been around as long as 90% of the people currently using it.
The problem isnt just how things are forcibly becoming obselete. Its how fucking FAST its happening. Shit people were using less then five years ago is being ripped away from them by companies who have decided they dont get to use them anymore.
Every time i buy a new phone a handful of my apps become untransferable, or cease to function the way they used to. Enshittification is swallowing everything and its happening so fucking fast. Anything you use today could be forcibly made obselete in less than two years.
This isnt "boomer shit" Im just now encroaching 30 and ive already lost access to basically everything i grew up using. Hundreds of dvds i cant even play because nothing comes with a disc drive anymore. Blurays are already being dual packaged with 4KHD disks which themselves also offer a code for a purely digital version. Theyre already planning the obselecense of a product theyre still producing.
Phones barely last two years before needing to be replaced.
And yea, im sorry, but for what fucking purpose does my fridge need a godamn wifi connection? Its job is to keep shit cold. I literally have a smart phone, computer, amd tv. Who the fuck is watching netflix and scrolling instagram on their fucking fridge?
And all of this shit happening within under a decade. Theres not even time to grow comfortable with the current thing before its replaced. This isnt some boomer conspiracy about how new shit is scary and weird. This is a very real decline in the staying power of literally anything we use daily and we've been watching it happen in real time.
And its getting faster every year.
