A while back, watched a show, liked it.

A few days ago, saw fanart for that show's sequel series I hadn't known about yet. It's of one of the main characters

Starts watching sequel show, they quickly drop the little tidbit that one of the previous main characters is dead, but doesn't tell us who.

It introduces us via one of the main characters, and gives us little hints as to who's alive and who's dead, but keeps us in the dark as to who. Misleads the audience into thinking the dead character is alive, though there is a tiny tidbit that seems like a fun lil detail but in hindsight was actually foreshadowing. After some truly impressive setup and misdirection, reveals which character is dead.

It's the character I saw fanart of. And it doesn't make sense.

Based on context, I concluded that there are two possibilities:

1) her design is shown via flashbacks, which also explain the quote that accompanied the fanart

2) it's a fakeout death

Given it's an action adventure story, as well as my general pattern recognition, I thought 2 was more likely. Even when we do see flashbacks of the dead character, I still thought two was more likely. The original series had its own main character fakeout-death, and I was really under the impression that follows possiblity 1.

But the pattern changes.

The that's revealed about the circumstances of her death, the more that's shown in flashbacks and recordings, the more that's revealed about the character dynamic changes between her and the other main cast,

Makes me think this isn't a fakeout.

Then, my suspicions are basically confirmed. These series never shows its deaths onscreen, or even anything too gross. Even blood is scarce. We just hear the death and are shown the other characters' reactions.

But despite all that, for this we still see the splatter of blood. We also see the reactions of the characters who were there. Although it's not shown onscreen, it's made clear that they saw her broken corpse.
