Rambling thought about Lion El'Johnson

I have to confess: I don't like Lion as a character. At all. It's probably 100% writers fault, because he technically has some very cool concept surrounding him. Here is a vague attempt to explain what bothers me about him, and how I would have fixed it.

First: No one at GW who created the bastard has ever read a chivalry book. While I'm only an amateur on the arthurian cycle (My hyperfixation is on the epic of Tristan and Iseult, who is mostly in periphery of arthurian legends), it doesn't take much knowledge of the style to see it completely lacking. Were is the gallantry? The romanticism? The devotions? The nobility of actions and character? If they wanted an ACTUAL knightly primarch, he should have had a personality between Vulkan and Roboute. All prime and proper in his feelings and actions, all for the nobility of heart (and the greater good lmao).

And if they wanted to create a more complex character- that's fine too! He could have been his angry broody self, but make him feel some ANGST about the fact that he's not living up to the mystical ideal of Chivalry and Honorable Behavior. Make him *struggle* with his belief and personality. Don't just make him.... Very grumpy and emotionless.

Wich bring me to the my second point: The Queer Coding (tm).

Did you know that, IRL, there was a classic english poet named Lionel Johnson? Who's best work, "Dark Angel", is poetry about how he struggle between his faith and his queerness?? Because, did a mention, he was gay??? As in, famously gay???? As in "Literally besty with Oscar Wilde" level of gay????????

So, with such explicit mentions of queer literature and poetry, you would expect Lion to have a queer storyline. It write itself honestly: Lion, in a strict society, where such things are not allowed. Battling with his desires and seeking guidance with his Father the Emperor, always loyal to his king. Feeling those Impure Thought (tm) and battling them, then miss-identifying them as Slaaneshi in nature when he discover Chaos.... Poor boy. *You could have been so interesting*.

But all this literally means nothing compare to what is, imo, the BIGGEST storytelling miss of Lion: The fairytale angle.

Im sorry but. A boy? Found in a forest full of knights and beast as a teenager??? And you are TELLING me he was not raised by the Fair Folk?!?! GW you fucking donkey. You idiot. The story write itself. It could have been a local, dying race of alien. It could have been legit fairy creature. Or even warp entity. Or shit, a combination of all 3! Make the fact that Lion is so bad with people a direct link to him being a *changeling*. Make him different. Make him a god damn Fay, you coward. Make the fact that half his legions fall directly linked to those fairies. It also explain the whole Watcher in the Dark!!! And why he's so protective of his home world!!!! Arg, this is the one that l find the most annoying.

So.

All this to say.

Gw: please hire me to rewrite The Lion into a gay fairy knight, I promise it's gonna be a lot more awesome than you think.
