I can really see some of Nishi's writing quirks in here with the comedy, fucking around w gender, and character interactions, with absolutely gorgeous art by uzasaki to go along with it. what if you Loved someones, what if the love in ur heart was enough to know that it transcends the need to always be together, what if you love ur favorite people enough to know you can watch them from afar knowing you'll eventually come back together

what if you realised that you can still love urself and the good you can have w urself and the good u have when with others

separation makes the heart grow fonder!! what if you love enough to know the time apart is still a gift!!

This arc is insane and it's like, so vital to clara's character + love trio development + mairuma's themes overall

I am being turned into concrete holy oh my god [also this is now my analysis sorry if I'm speaking straight nonsense]

Clara's always like, been the foundation of the love trio, at the very least she's to be credited for establishing how the trio defines themselves to each other [to outsiders theyre defined by one member [iruma] since they're called the iruma army, very cute but I'm making distinctions between how that and the love trio name does different for them]

The title iruma's army hinges on clara and azz's devotion to iruma as seen thru the outside perspective and it also makes them kinda, like a love angle, as its how they are connected to iruma but not each other specifically

Love trio is clara's way to define how each of them in the trio are interconnected thru their love for each other [the phrase love trio also focuses on them as a trio, putting them on a more even dynamic with each other]

Side tangent sorry I'm sitting here writing this post almost immediately after reading the chapter, i think love trio encompasses some the fundamentals of demonhood [greed, power, control] as reflected in their evil cycles, my third eye is open, irumas evil cycle was greed [and his character growth is him learning and tapping into these demonic indulgences that're frowned upon in human society] as he wanted more for the misfits which can be seen as greedy as it's asking for more than the class is allowed, azz's is power as training lets him enter his evil cycle to have more unchecked power in combat, clara's is control as her worries and insecurities drove her to store away iruma and azz to keep them with her under her care forever

I digress tho i haven't even gotten into like 30% of my illness about the love trio

This arc really dove into clara's character as, shes been kinda been kept in the dark when it comes to, what she actually may be thinking, like id argue it's intentional that clara hasn't been really given free range to be entirely herself in a way that doesn't outwardly make others uncomfortable

Clara was so, unabashedly herself, but the story didn't punish her for that, it's just that through azz And iruma [even if he very much threw water on a grease fire omg], she learns that she Can feel these things both good and awful, and that one, theyll love her anyways [good point that iruma made, horrible time to express it] but two, that it doesn't mean she should bury these worries within herself and instead of this domineering control over the ones she cares about when expressing her most primal fears, the bad stuff needs to get recognized first and that she needs to let others in to express that

or yk in easy terms, iruma's way was "I'll love you even with the bad" and azz's way was "this is all the bad but I'll love you", basically an inverse approach in how they talked down clara [if im making sense who knows]

I hope that we do get to see iruma and azz make good on indulging clara's wishes to go like, swamp lol, weird girl central, after exams in the extras or [indulging the kinda greed youll see in the bible] in an entire chapter I'm not asking for much,,,

Im getting distracted but the start and end chapters for this arc have the same name, Coming full circle, the arc starts w clara's concern about staying behind in make up classes and not spending end of term w iruma and azz and it ends w her being reassured that pass or fail in make up classes or end of term fun, they still together and love each other and it'll be fine no matter what

Also this is the first time iruma and azz have been shown to be visibly attached to clara as the center, seen in the first few pages [what comes to mind is the times azzclara stuck to irumas sides and the few times i think iruclara did the same to azz], just wanna mention bc they're so cute I'm disintegrating into nothing

The chapter also ending w the little tease of clara's hair sticking up in the same way as in her evil cycle state, my illness

I think this represents a few things but largely what i think is important to herself + the love trio, i think it's representative of how she will keep some of how she was in her evil cycle just more tempered, base/non evil cycle clara is already in touch w love for iruma and azz it was just put on the extreme, i think going forward she'll now just, be more in touch w the different like, aspects of her insecurities, like expressing the bad thoughts she stores away to iruma and azz, but also bc i do think that the love trio are kinda representing fundamentals of demonhood, ill be bold and say she's gonna be even More confident w her love for iruma and azz [expressing control thru more establishment of the love trio in the story, i think]

also i am just, the way nishi-sensei continously draws these intimate moments between the love trio in this shoujo romance manga kinda style, especially when the panel/page feels like it's framed to be from the view point of one of the three, like that's just something that can be so special

Minor thing, among many things I've thrown in here i literally have the chapter open in a different tab so i can reference it during writing, i think clara kinda snapping at iruma and azz for being overbearing in the first pages is like, one of the few times i recall her actually, doing anything of the sort? might be wrong tho but i like this visible development to their dynamic

Iruma having a parental figure, be it an oc or one of the Canon mairuma characters- that after a deadly situation happens with him said parental figure freaks out and holds him and has to continue checking on him :')

The poor baby needs to know that the people, adults especially, in his life love him and desperately want him to be safe and okay. The desperation of a parent who almost lost their world 😭

The moment Iruma breathes again, you finally break.

He’s coughing, weakly, curled in on himself after being pulled from the wreckage of the collapsed training hall. The dust still hangs in the air like a fog, glowing faintly under the emergency magic lights. He’s covered in bruises and grime, his shirt torn, a cut trailing crimson down his arm. But he’s alive.

You drop to your knees beside him, hands trembling as you cradle his face.

“Iruma—Iruma, sweetheart, look at me, please,” your voice cracks, but he blinks blearily at you.

“Mom...?”

You don’t even mean to start crying. It just happens, a gasp lodging in your throat as you press him against your chest, arms wrapped tight around him like you can anchor him to this plane with sheer force of love.

“You’re okay. You’re okay. Oh my stars, you’re okay,” you whisper, over and over, rocking slightly as the adrenaline crashes out of you. “I thought—I thought I lost you. I couldn’t find you. I heard it collapse, and I ran, and—” Your breath stutters. “I couldn’t lose you too.”

Iruma’s small hands fist weakly in your shirt. “I’m sorry,” he whispers, voice hoarse. “I didn’t mean to scare you…”

“No. No, baby, this isn’t your fault. Don’t you dare say sorry.” You pull back just enough to cup his cheeks again, thumbs brushing away dirt and tears. “You’re allowed to be in danger. But I’m allowed to lose my mind about it, because I love you, Iruma. I love you so much.”

His eyes go wide—like he doesn’t quite know what to do with that.

You take a deep, shaky breath and press a kiss to his forehead. “We’re going to the infirmary. And then I’m going to check on you every five minutes for the rest of your life.”

Iruma lets out a small laugh, then winces, and you’re back to full-on fussing. “Don’t move too fast. You might be hurt worse than we can see. I’m getting help—no, wait, don’t panic, I’m not leaving you, just—someone get me a healer!”

Even once the medics arrive, you stay at his side, never letting go of his hand. And for days afterward, you keep drifting into his room just to see him breathe, to make sure he’s really still there.

And Iruma, at first confused, eventually begins to smile each time you do. Because maybe, just maybe, he’s starting to believe he really is someone worth worrying over.

My Mairuma Hot Takes

I want to get these off my headspace, so here we go...

"The Love Trio are inseparable besties and not a polycule."

Almost everyone in the fandom says the three mains should end up together as a throple happily ever after.

To me, I am not jumping on their bandwagon.

I'm an individual who is against polygamy (including pointless love triangles) and what I view from the trio is that they are the best of friends.

We have Iruma x Asmodeus, so how about Clara x Sabnock?😅

"Ameri is a poorly written character"

I want to write a whole essay about it, but it is kind of fruitless for me.

To make a long story short, an older student council president simps over a young human boy in every story arc.🥴

For a demon who is too selfish, violent, possessive and shrewd, Ameri cannot be with Iruma whose life is fragile and was content with familial love and friendship.

If they just scrapped her forced romance, Ameri could have been more likable.

The benefit of the Human AU is that she acts like a normal person.

"Romance between Iruma and the girls is unnecessary, that it comes off as filler."

Speaking of romance...why do they bother including it?😑 (Clara is fine but still...)

The adventurous, intriguing main story arcs and Iruma's bonding with his blushing partner in pink, his hyperactive bestie in green, and the Class 3-E...I meant misfits were worth investing for.

1. How many works do you have on ao3?

13! They're all different lengths and about half of them are complete? And only more to come because I joined another big bang...

2. What's your total ao3 word count?

It's crazy because I only started really getting into writing in the past 3 years and I hit 151,653 words! I'm very proud to be here! I remember when writing 40k in a year seemed impossible for me.

3) What are your top five fics by kudos?

Haha this is more of me having one very popular fic and the rest are neck and neck, but here is the order! "Hello, Time Goes Quickly", "Fate Led Us to You (It Was Worth the Wait)", "I'll Take Care of Your Roots So Grow Tall, My Love", "Time to be Human", and "The Trials of Loving"!

4) What fandoms do you write for?

I've written all over the place, and some I won't come back to writing for even if I still read! I've written for D. Grayman, Marvel, Mob Psycho 100, Genshin, My Hero Academia, Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun, and The S Classes that I Raised! I mostly write for the last two!

5) Do you respond to comments? why or why not?

I actually always respond to comments! Every time. I make it a point to respond to every comment I get on my fics. I just get so excited knowing someone cared enough to comment, and want the reader to know I see them!

6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't really write angsty endings so I'll just go with angstiest in general! I'd say my S Class Percy Jackson au, "The Trials of Loving" is the one!

7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Ooooo I have a lot of happy endings! And they're pretty happy if I do say so myself. Maybe my Percy Jackson au for Sctir "The Trials of Loving" again lol. It ends on their wedding day!

8) Do you get hate on fics?

Nope! I have gotten spam though rip. At most it's commenters who are confused so I explain, but my commenters are lovely people!

9) Do you write smut?

... I have one smut fic and it's my most popular one. It's 30k and only like 5k is smut, and all of it was hard to write lol. But it must be done! For anyone curious it is in fact "Hello, Time Goes Quickly" lol.

10) Do you write crossovers?

My first fic was actually a crossover fic! It's inspired by liketolaugh 's crossover fic "Cosmic Composite" which is an Avenger's and D. Grayman crossover. Everyone should check out their fics! I'm confident of my characterization of characters! It's why I usually can't do other POVs for other characters. I need to feel confident in how I understand them to write for them.

Writing in detail. I like getting to the point, because too long sentences in my writing aren't interesting lol. So sometimes there are images in my head I don't describe enough for readers to picture what I'm imagining.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Fun! I just want to make sure I use it right.

Iruma & Kirio as foils, or: Why does Iruma still want Kirio?

TLDR: they want to own each other, mind your business

This won the poll of which meta to write up first, so let’s get into it. I’ve seen plenty of fan complaints about Iruma being “too forgiving” towards Kirio or blinded by love, and I think that misses the actual point of Iruma’s experience here, which is grounded in the way he and Kirio are not only foils, but fundamentally opposing forces. 

(Disclaimer that I’m not saying “Kirio did nothing wrong” “uwu poor little meow meow” etc. I’m fundamentally not interested in whether a character “deserves” redemption, I don’t believe in punitive justice, justice is not even a major theme in Mairuma, and I think if any sort of justice is being brought into the interpretation, Kirio is most compelling when considered through a lens of transformative justice and societal-level questions.) 

General Parallels & Kirio’s Side

We see them start from similar places: most highlighted is the way they are both basically disabled in terms of their magical ability, and rely on assistive devices provided by a “guardian figure” (loosely interpreted for Baal). What is highlighted less, but I think can be inferred from narrative framing, is the ways in which their ambitions are mirrored, based on their trauma/fears. We see in the Harvest Festival that Iruma’s trauma centers on his loneliness–that people will leave him, particularly if he can’t live up to the role he’s been given (more on that when I write up how psychological dehumanization plays into the story, but the narrative is quite explicit on Iruma’s trauma & abuse/neglect). 

Extrapolating, we can see how loneliness is also at the root of Kirio’s choices. He’s been shunned by everyone, especially his own family, for his weakness. His mental break comes when the one person who would “smile at him” looks at him in despair. He explicitly approaches Baal “to look for those who are the same as me”--interesting that he seems to be reinterpreting his isolation as due to his “twisted nature” rather than his weakness now.   

So, both Iruma and Kirio are given a place to belong from a “guardian figure”. During this time, Iruma begins to unlearn some of the unhealthy ways he coped with loneliness (doing anything for anyone for any ounce of positive attention), while Kirio is encouraged to deepen his (seeking others’ despair, pulling them down to his level; more on this and Baal’s manipulation in another essay). 

Moving on, we can see how Iruma is antithetical to Kirio’s ambitions. Iruma is evidence that people can resist despair. He needs to make Iruma despair–it's not just "I want to see people despair and he won't give it to me"--for Kirio, despair is the organization of his life, explicitly stated as his “reason for living”. Kirio approaches Baal for community, says "I am broken," and Baal tells him that he is not a mistake, he is not alone, that the way he is is natural. Iruma calls all that into question. If despair is a choice people can avoid, then his identity collapses. It's not everyone's true nature--it's just him, he is alone, and he is a mistake. He could have chosen to resist despair, but he was either too weak or too twisted (either way, too broken) to manage it. The fandom gets distracted by the eroticism of cannibalism, but it is Iruma’s despair that is Kirio’s real goal. Whether Kirio realizes it or not, he needs Iruma to despair to justify his very existence.

Iruma’s Side and Existential Conflict

It may seem like Iruma cares so much about Kirio because of his issues prioritizing others over himself, but I believe his desire for Kirio is when he is at his most self-assured, and most selfish. After all, Iruma's ambitions are also impossible without Kirio returning to his side. 

Iruma wants to belong in the netherworld, wants to remain by his friends’ sides, and ultimately wants to create a kind netherworld where people are encouraged to grow–basically, to protect and spread the love and opportunity that he was given. Meeting Kirio is his first real glimpse at these ambitions (@naoke666 has a great tongue-in-cheek analysis of this), and also the first time he must confront the true opposition to this ambition. 

Here, I believe Kirio comes to represent the ultimate reality of demons for Iruma. He was warned about demons eating him from the beginning, but Kirio is his first actual exposure to the potential evils of the world that would make it uninhabitable for him. 

Kirio wants a cruel world. Sure, he's not the only one, but the others are adults who have chosen this path again and again. It's not just what Kirio does or wants, but the idea that he represents demon nature. So it’s not that Iruma wants Kirio back because he doesn’t see how fucked up Kirio is–Iruma needs Kirio back specifically because of that. If Kirio really is what he says he is–fundamentally and naturally sadistic–if demons really will always naturally be like him, then Iruma existing in the demon world he wants is impossible. Sure, he could become strong enough to fight them off, but that wouldn't be a kind world. Iruma could kill Kirio, but that would only prove that Iruma must kill to survive. If Kirio is right, then even if Iruma defeats him in terms of power, Iruma still won't have the world he wants. If Iruma gives up on Kirio, he will admit that there are times he will have to give up, and he declared in their first conflict that he wouldn’t give anything up.

For both of them, it's not enough to defeat each other--each one needs to prove the other wrong to survive on the path they've chosen. They are locked in a tug-of-war, trying to pull each other to their side because that is the only way their "side" can continue to coherently exist. If they don't pull the other to their side, then the new world they want to create can't come to be. While Kirio needs to pull Iruma down to him, to feel the same despair he does, Iruma needs to pull Kirio up with him to be able to create the kind netherworld he wants. 

I think it’s very narratively interesting to acknowledge that they are both epistemic/existential threats to each other. Obviously, Iruma’s is the happy outcome, but their desires for each other are still paralleled. In Kirio’s mind, Iruma “winning” would destroy him just as much as he plans to destroy Iruma–after all, Kirio believes that he can’t be anything other than what he is now, and if that were true, there would be no place for him in Iruma’s world.

Ultimately, though, I don't think this is a story that believes a child can just be fundamentally evil, and despite what we’re told about demon nature, what we’re consistently shown is that demons and humans aren’t very different–we all want to be loved, want to be acknowledged, want to strive. And even if you don’t buy any of this, Mairuma is a story about Iruma getting what he wants, and he wants Kirio. After all, Iruma declares that he loves demons, loves the demon world–Kirio, as the first person he truly recognizes as a demon, has to be there as well. (@mx-88 just posted a good Kirio redemption analysis you should check out as well.)

I'm making this as contribution to Mairuma Manga's chapter 304

I'm surprised no one said shit on how Clara saved the day with her optimistic and fun personality. Honestly it was unexpected but also unsurprising and comforting that Clara was the one who stopped them. I genuinely thought Ameri was the one who would interrupt but you know, nevermind.

Also it makes sense in a way, Nishi didn't want to make Clara feel left out in the situation so she dropped the bomb (cliffhanger) on us so we would want to remember and look forward to what happened next and that's when Clara came in. The love trio does have to stick together afterall.

So without further a do here are 5 things I love about Clara Valac! Our adorable little charming playful demon!

Clara's amazing nicknames

These three being the dorks that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Like literally Azz-azz and Irumachi sounds so cute wtf- and like other nicknames Eggy-sensei. It reflects her personality well and actually makes her unique. ( I want to say quirky but it sounds weird so no. )

Her voice actor is also delivering her lines incredibly accurate also her voice actor is also known to voice Valac's entire family. Now that's what I called fucking talent. Since we're getting off-topic, let's move on to the next one.

2. Clara's overlooked selflessness.

I hate seeing Clara cry but I have to like put an image to showcase her selfishness.

You know how the netherworld always say that there are rarely other demons who would care for other people than themselves? If Clara was selfish, she wouldn't care for the other demons consent and she could easily force them to play with her.

But no, she wanted people to play with her with consent. She wants the other demon have fun as much as she has. There are many things that she could do but didn't because she cares for other demons feelings. She is a rare demon that wants to play and both side to have fun.

3. Clara has no doubt that Azz-kun and Iruma loves her.

Her eyes shine with utter confidence.

5. Clara's patience and endurance.

This is just adorable-

Clara's patience and endurance is honestly so admirable. I kinda lost count on the times, she endured being left out. We know well that Clara loves Iruma and Azz-kun so much that she doesn't want to ever get separated from them.

So the fact that she endured the clinginess of hers and have patience is so amazing of her. She truly does act like the role of the big sister sometimes. Honestly this is probably one of the few things that Clara does better than Azz-kun because let's be honest, he wouldn't last two weeks of separation from Iruma ( without training that is.).

sorry i havent done the asks or new art. i explained on my bsky but basically my wrist has been CRAP. since i use it for hw a lot, it gets already worn out so when i finally have a chance to draw after,, i can only do so for like 30 minutes before needing a break :sob: i still have the drive but the motivation and time... is lacking which makes me a bit sad. I really love devlin and the story around him and all of my friends oc, i think about them all the time and I wish i could just show that whenever i could D: but like. SCHOOL AGHHH . this is really just a slightly related rant, but also..im afraid i seem a bit self-centered at times becuz, i dont draw my friends characters AS much or share about them and yet im here so happy whenever they draw for me and you know.. INVOLVE themselves into my ocs! i cant help but be a bit guilty that... im too involved with my own ocs..? like its weird to explain this feeling. 😭 and i frankly dont want to get TOO much into it just cuz this is a tumblr for silly demon ocs of mairuma not a ranting/personal acc lol but. it HAS happened where i am too involved with my fandom oc and it gets 'popular' and then someone 'calls me out' for pushing my ocs into others and that. kinda killed it yk? like i dont want to push devlin either onto everyones faces but im also scared that it gives off that its all i talk about (which is kinda true? idk) 😭 like eventually i just melted away from it a bit, to. prevent what has happened before. i rarely draw that other fandom oc becuz of that. and like i said, i love devlin, i dont want that to happen. I want to keep creating but, my personal feelings and my physical limits, and even my mental state stops me and it SUCKS!! rahh! anyways, i need to get more into the habit to just posting whatever on here cuz i srsly have a lot backlogged but i just hold back from posting them cuz i think they are 'ugly' or well, unappealing ><... ill get to it eventually!

devlin is very personal to me. in a way, he reflects me haha,, but also i cherish it if others relate to him, thats kinda the purpose almost. I also really love mairuma!!

the more we see of mephistos the more intrigued i am by his character. looking forward to seeing both him and his dynamic w iruma develop, like i mean the beach chapters and him saying "I'm your ally" like what does he know?? his power? also very curious about the scala exam arc and if they're hopefully going to tie in parallels w iruma being human doing work to protect migrant demons

That one's talking about Sullivan from Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!

As you can tell from the AITA, the story follows fourteen year old Iruma Suzuki, after his shitty parents sell him to a demon, only for said demon to become his grandpa. Now he's going to demon school and making friends <3 It's a comedy series first and foremost, but it's got a lotof heart to it, and a lot of adorable moments.

The series has both an anime and a manga. The manga doesn't have an official english version though, so read it on mangadex

Pros of the Anime (3 seasons):

great voice acting, both sub and dub

great music

added musical numbers? (good for the idol arcs, at least)

Cons of the Anime

rather stiff animation

the battler party arc in the first season drags for SO LONG good lord

Pros of the Manga (300+ chapters)

the art gets absolutely GORGEOUS as the series goes on

extremely great expression work, great use of textures, great character design

runs longer than the anime (duh)

Cons of the Manga

rough translations until Misfit Scans take over

early art is a lil meh (but still cute!)

some lingering beta designs for some of the cast

If you read the manga on mangadex, do use Misfit Scans' translations whenever possible. They redid the first volume and take over at chapter 44, so translations from chapter 7 to 43 can get.. rough. Wicked House is not good.

Anyway, yeah! Mairuma is a super great comfort series for me. Plot kicks in later, but it's mainly about Iruma growing as a person. I'd imagine he resonates a lot with neglected or absued people - the fantasy of this poor kid getting whisked away into a new life and family that loves him. Iruma starts out as meek, as a total pushover, to his own detriment. And "Iruma can't say no to anything" is constant weakness of his, but his kindness is also his strength - his willingness to help others is what shakes the individualist society of the netherworld at its core.

The series also places a lot of focus on greed as a positive thing, which is fantastic! Iruma is confronted with his own desires, time and time again. What does he want? How will he take it? Demons are selfish creatures, and he's one of them now! So, be a demon! Fight for your desires!

It's just great okay.

We also have a canonically NB catperson (thank you Opera), the most poly subtext I've ever damn well seen in a work ever (thank you love trio), canonically lesbian pop idols (gyari my beloved).

Main downside of the cast is there is ONE obligatory pervert character but a) never actually succeeds in putting fanservice offscreen b) much less grating presence than M*neta c) at least has SOME character stuff going on outside that. My favorite arc w him has him competing with a girl to see who's the most elegant beast tamer and it's played entirely straight.

my main complaints of the series would be that despite boys getting to be gender noncomforming a lot the girls are all very. Girls. like they are Specifically Girls you know what I mean right. also using hebrew as a basis for your demon alphabet is kind of a bad look generally.

otherwise. super cute series. traumatized kid finally gets to go out of survival mode. a lot of things abt iruma as a character are shaped by that trauma and it SHOWS and the harvest festival arc in particular is my favorite because he's forced to grapple with his lasting fear of abandonment and all that good stuff, BUT HIS FRIENDS ALWAYS COME THRUUU!!! THEY'LL STICK BY HIM FOREVER!!!

Already anticipating to have more thoughts than i plan despite it only being, 4 chapters, oops

gonna overview first my thoughts, i think it's a bit of a crime to make this stay in a different school so short, shame bc i did want more world building but I'm holding out that getting our foot in the door here means we can come back when needed, especially since the ominous send off at the end is a gun waiting to fire off in the future

Ok now gonna break down the beats i really liked and my thoughts

Minor thing probably but i think ultimately very important in regards to what mairuma says about education, it says a lot when urara speaks up against an unfair teacher, society tends to tell children to listen to the adults no matter how wrong something may be so it says a lot when a kid speaks up against a transgression, kids are a lot smarter than u think

Bc yes as genzel [the teacher] says, while education is the matter of concern for the adults teaching, its unfair to leave students out of the discussion just cuz in these scenarios they're not the ones with the knowledge needed, education and learning is for both the student and the teacher as a good learning environment leaves space for both to grow, a close minded teacher will not turn out well educated students especially in the cases of not engaging student learning in exams the same way they engage in the classroom or not taking into consideration how to approach a student who doesn't understand the material, it is important to teach students the right way and to also encourage students to speak for themselves

Ok so enough about education, this arc is a very good showcase of leiji as a candidate for demon king which is very important bc i think it adds substance to the competition as only propping up iruma would make it feel like a less satisfying pay off in the end, there's potential for drama if all three of the grandsons have been proven to be worthwhile competent candidates for the demon king role vs just saying the other two will be good but ultimately giving it to iruma w no fanfare

Leiji does seem like he doesnt take his role seriously or at the least seems to be brazen in how he establishes himself in the school but he does show that he's worth his salt quite well, he intervenes when genzel is about to get physical in disciplining urara while citing his reasons for it, and he picks up what genzels been running pretty easily despite his more limited knowledge of what could be going on, and despite how reckless it may seem to just shoot out the octopus with no plan he has a pretty insane mastery of his bloodline ability and handles the situation with ease, so overall very nice to get more of this guy and to cement his credibility as a demon king candidate

urara is my son boy, ok, he's so cute, he's a smart kid and wants to do what's right, like you need some info ok cool lemme pull out a librarys worth of solo research from my pocket dimension, and he gets to show off a little by creating the plan that gets them genzel but omg have a little more self preservation instincts next time little man, now that he's shown up in the manga and is working under leiji i hope we get to see him now

Balam my king, >shows up >looks ominous >doesn't elaborate >leaves, king behavior, but i do theorize this is a symbolic showing of sort of how the new generation of demons will step up and lead in their own way, as balam was more of a fallback while leiji and urara handled most of the situation, it's a pretty good balance between "kids should not suffer the burdens of adults" and "let kids handle themselves when they can" bc the second one is a learning scenario where it can be appropriate to step back to let them grow, while the problems caused by adults should be handled by adults, stunting students chances to learn and grow doesnt let them prepare for when they have to take off their training wheels to be adults, it's important to work to achieve a balance, rip my hope for evil cycle balam tho join me in the prayer circle for it to happen soon

So, good arc, maybe a bit short but a gun is loaded [plus one more in the next chapter] so I'm holding out for when it fires

Hello, big big fan of your Mairuma shorts here! Loved, loved, loved the Narnia Courting HCs, him being so attractive when his personality is like... *that* is just Unfair.

Scrolled through some of the Narnia-related stuff and the idea of 'Human!SO who somehow learns about him bullying Iruma and is appalled' would not leave my head, for several nights.

Could I request a fic about the prompt above... where the fem!SO decides to (or actually does) leave him...? Backs off, puts some distance between him and her, and eventually fucking ghosts him because she really went 'wtf' and had to re-evalute their whole relationship when she heard about it.

(My inner overdramatic angst-obsessed ass will not let me live in peace, especially when I also think about your HC of Narnia having clingy, yandere, and stalkerish tendencies, completely losing his shit at getting dumped. *insert 'took break-up horribly song' in the background*

I just,, really,, want to see him freak out at a problem his strength and new shiny position as a 13 Crown can't solve, okay?)

Premise is that they've been in a (secret) relationship for a... good amount of time already, and been living together too. Maybe had a rocky start at the beginning given his... uh, Opinions on non-Demon species, but she really thought he was okay or at least wasn't hostile anymore now.

She stays at his home and rarely goes out, initially without complaint (because it really wasn't safe or feasible for her to leave without him), but now it's really out of habit and also because Narnia (and maybe even most Naberius when they fall in love? Maybe that's why they avoid romances?? They get overbearing and obsessive and suffocating???) has the unfortunate pathological need to hide away and shelter his lover from any possible harm/rivals/competition for attention, a tendency that Narnia does not even try to curb. He does get busy with work, but he always comes back and showers her with gifts and HIS attention, but Haaaates the idea of sharing with anyone else.

But human?? Am social creature that need stimulation, so she's slowly become lowkey unhappy. The Devinet has become her best buddy, girl ends up picking up so many skills and hobbies, Magic, trying to occupy herself while waiting for him. But she stays, because she does have feelings for him, fell in love with the Netherworld, and gave up on going back to a life back on Earth. For a long time, they settle into this comfortable (?) status quo.

And then it breaks. Maybe one of the online communities she joined talk about meeting up for an event, someone posts about the tickets they got for a concert, maybe Narnia unintentionally sets her off by calling her (genuinely out of fondness) 'pet', maybe she even hears about Iruma, the accomplished and very-much-Not-a-human Lord Sullivan's grandson in the news, participating in demonic society, having fun and Living his life... and she. wants. Out. so, so badly.

And so one rainy day knowing that Narnia would be out for work and not back for awhile, she cleans up the house, picks up her travel bag, and Goes. She ends up having the time of her life, making new acquaintances, new experiences, new memories; that the home they shared feels like a whole different world.

Narnia, meanwhile, has come back to an empty home, an empty bed, and a letter on the table.

OK so first off I love this??? So much?? Hurts my heart so good, this idea does.

But also, also just hear me out now, what if this took place right before Narnia became a 13 crown instead? Like say, reader leaving is what made Narnia hate humans so much, because one broke his heart after promising forever and he's trying to hunt them down. Put himself as a nominee so that he has further reach to be able to find and chain them down to his side or get rid of them all together, I can't decide? Which is why in the bathroom scene he says it's not long now, because he means it won't be long until he can do whatever he wants in his quest to find them.

Mairuma ch.368 thoughts...

Something I've noticed a lot is how the author plays with time. Despite this being a fairly linear story, we're still given these feelings of being embedded in the past and future by being shown characters at different points in their lives. Doing this with the antagonists too adds this depth of character so succinctly, without having to spend a lot of page time. I really love how this technique gets deployed throughout.

Hmm, really not sure what we're meant to take from this. Everyone knows Delkira isn't here, so what does using his crest signify?

Ok but this really got me. The imagery of life hanging on underground through violent oppression... Something I need to remember when things seem beyond hope. There's always life hanging on.

I wouldn't actually expect it from any media that isn't actually literally radical, but it's a shame Nishi isn't going to commit to a systemic ACAB and is basically going with a "bad apples" portrayal.
