So I was wondering if you could talk about the Kyle/cartman and batman/joker parallels because there is a LOT. Im considering doing my own analysis but I wanted to hear another perspective, if possible?
This is an Interesting topic.
I think it would be an understatement to call Cartman anything but an agent of chaos. The Joker believes that everyone around him is no different than himself, and he seeks to expose that. While Cartman doesn't really want to expose everyone for being just as bad as he is, as that would require admitting he is bad in the first place, that is still definitely a belief he holds deep down. With Joker this belief culminates into an obsession with Batman, someone who operates by a strict moral code, someone Joker believes is SO similar to him, whose attention he is constantly seeking while trying to get him to basically "admit" that they are the same by killing him. The Joker finds great amusement in his altercations with Batman. In a very similar way, which I'm sure you've already picked up, Cartman feels and behaves when it comes to Kyle. If there is on person in south park Cartman truly considers on his level it is Kyle. And in a similar vein to the Joker he find great amusement in his and Kyle's arguments.
Neither Batman nor the Joker can ever truly win against eachother tho. Due to their unchanging nature and beliefs they can never cross that bridge. The only way for Batman to truly beat the Joker is to kill him (aka become him), which goes against all his morals, and the Joker could never kill Batman.
“You just couldn’t let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren’t you? You won’t kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won’t kill you because you’re just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever”, a quote of Jokers from the Dark Knight.
(This quote is literally such a good description for Cartman and Kyle overall)
Just like these two Kyle and Cartman can never truly win against eachother. Kyle could never let himself stoop down to Cartman's level, and Cartman even tho he has attempted to "kill Kyle" many times, could never truly do it for the fact that his life would just be dull without him around to fight with.
There is a good chunk of works that depict that relationship between Joker and Batman as "friendly" (take that with like a grain of salt) in a way. The very fact that Batman refuses to kill him, even going so far as continually saving The Joker. Essentially allowing him to roam free again and again, simply because he believes that there is something worth saving there.
“Do you understand? I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t want either of us to end up killing the other. But we’re running out of alternatives and we both know it”, Batman in The Killing Joke.
In a similar manner Kyle is continuously trying to see something good in Cartman, even against his better judgement. Constantly saving him from trouble, from a sense of moral obligation and maybe even one of genuine friendships. There is a part of Kyle that genuinely believes that Cartman can change.
The same comic ends with the two characters realizing that they can never truly trust eachother (told to us through a metaphor in a joke The Joker tells to Batman). They both start cackling at the ridiculousness of their situation, almost as if they were two friends having a laugh.
We are shown so many times in this show that Cartman and Kyle could be genuinely good friends, there are multiple instances of them acting so. But their antagonistic relationship towards eachother is something Kyle and Cartman can never manage to escape, even after 40 years they seem to regress at the first look they have of eachother. In a way that's similar to the Joker and Batman they need eachother. Their characters linger on each other. They justify eachothers existence by being eachothers narrative foils. Which kinda dooms them to a life of fighting.

Larcstone: Why I Write It
helloooo! This is my first official essay for the Larcstone series. I did say I would do chapterly deep dives and I did actually go thru w/ that and wrote the first essay, BUT it ended up amounting to double to word count of the actual chapter, and I'm 100% sure NO ONE is reading lmao. Instead, I'll just be answering any questions people have.
However, I do want to write a quick post talking about why I decided to write this fic just to see if I can reel in any readers.
ALSO, before I get into the actual essay, here’s a wip of Tweek’s design ->
Tumblr media
once i finish this drawing up, i want to do an analysis on why I designed him the way I did since it’s very vital :))
FIRST OF ALL, I obviously am a huge PMMM fan and I have been for the past 5 years. I can't give it up ever. I also enjoy South Park and am relatively comfortable in the ao3 side of the fandom. The characters are just really moldable so it's easier to go out of character and not get too many complaints.
My biggest reason for writing is because there are a lot of topics I want to shed light on. I'm literally not trying to sound like a cringe nerd right now but I am genuinely the biggest philosophy nerd ever, so, with the series, I wanted to challenge myself and try to answer one of my favorite questions ever.
What defines good and what defines evil. More specifically, how far must one go to achieve absolute on either end? Larcstone is a say on the dichotomy of black-and-white morality. I wanted to test myself and see if I could figure out what absolute evil and absolute good would look like if they were two living characters.
So now we have Tweek and Craig. I had to create two characters that foiled each other in the most intense yet subtle way ever. So, to do that, I decided to only create one backstory in two contexts. Both of them are immigrants who struggled to learn English (Mitish in Tweek's case), had poor parental figures, major grievances, music orientation, ext. I just came up with a vague outline of what I needed both of them to go through, then fit it into the context of both of their lives.
Now we have two characters with nearly the exact same trauma. Yet, one is meant to be the ultimate good, and the other the ultimate evil. For spoiler reasons, I will not be saying who descends into what, but I feel like it's quite obvious if you've read the first version and maybe even if you've read the newer chapters. Either way, Tweek and Craig are meant to embody the idea that you are entirely in control of what you become. Both of them had some of the worst lives possible (Tweek had it worse IMO), yet one will stand up in the face of evil and the other will fall right down.
It would be very appreciated if you stopped by and read what I have out so far! If it doesn't interest you, that's also fine with me! You can stay for the art lol. I literally giggle and kick my feet every time anyone says something nice about this AU since it is quite literally my magnum opus. This AU is 99% up to interpretation and I would love so much to hear opinions on each character. None of these characters are meant to be either good or bad (even Tweek and Craig aren't 100% on either side) and hearing what people have to say in defense or against any characters would be SO GREATLY APPRECIATED!! :D
THANK YOU!!

Where do I even start- this might sound weird coming from some stranger but thank you- for rambling about south park so much lol. I felt like I needed to say this, I have some intense feelings about the Post Covid special and just hearing and relating to your thoughts is kinda comforting as I´m trying not to put too much thought into the ending scene because it´s upsetting me what they did to Cartman. To be honest, I´m not a fan of Rabbi Cartman either (I try not to be vocal about it as it seems a lot of people liked him… oh well), but how he ended up was just… too cruel. I dunno, I just love seeing people rant about this, I feel less alone with my unreasonably strong opinions about things that weren’t meant to be taken this seriously. And I keep finding myself chuckling about “why did they have to ruin everything right in the last few seconds what´s their obsession with doing that” at the most random times throughout the day, lmao. I´m saying, please never stop typing your thoughts bc I love reading them,,
Oh it's not weird at all!!! And thank you for this actually 🥺💕 I feel like I ramble a lot for someone whose not even intending to be like a commentary/analysis blog or anything, I just have a lot of strong feelings lmao. But I totally know what you mean about it being kind of cathartic to hear someone else rant about something you yourself are angry about, its like second hand getting it off your chest haha. And yeah! I mean, this show is intentionally ridiculous and not intended to be taken too seriously (also a comedy above all else - even though as fandom we're more interested in the character drama aspects of it), but it's also really hard not to get in too deep when you're emotionally attached... even if that level of attachment is against your will dfjsd. But at least you're not the only one for sure, like we are all here in this together lmao 😭
Also that about their obsession with ruining everything in the last few seconds:
I keep just kind of hoping everyone knows what I mean by this because I assume it pisses everyone else off as much as it does me jsdgbsdfjsf. But if anyone doesn't know what I’m talking about or has been wondering, it's something like..... hmm... I think the most glaring examples I can think of are episodes like the underpants gnomes one where they spend the whole ep explaining why big corporate businesses overtaking small local ones is harmful, and then right at the last second they're like "nevermind lol!! 🤪 we love big corporations actually! its the fault of the small local ones for their product not being good enough". And in the goobacks episode we spend the entire time learning that the solution to preventing the future from becoming uninhabitable is to look after the earth in the present, and then in the last few seconds they're like "actually this is stupid, fuck the environment!!". Like....... !?!?
These are just two examples but they do it SO often, sometimes in slightly different or more subtle ways (like Stan's parents getting divorced - this one happened twice actually - which they desperately need to, and everyone was happy and better off... then they get back together at the last minute for like, no reason? Just to make Stan miserable again?) Speaking of Stan's parents another clear example of this is dead kids, where we spend the whole time sympathizing with Sharon being the only person who is as worried about the situation as everyone else should be. And then when her son gets shot you expect Randy at least to understand her now? But instead SHE'S the one whose like "actually you're right, who cares lol!!"
I think the reason they find it funny is because it's a last minute reversal of expectations, because you're expecting the kind of happy or logical ending any other show would give you and its like - oh wait!!! actually, *long fart noise* instead.
But like.... I wish they would fucking stop doing this 😭 LMAO..... or at least don't do it in a way that fucks up character development, that's already a mess on this show.....
