he had to change into a full kilt & the bit you put over your shoulder btw. in the middle of whatever he was up to before this he changed into a full kilt found some bagpipes walked(?) to the mansion and just started playing in hope that something would happen. in the middle of a murder investigation. after he told mary he's meet her at her house. where he's staying. HE HAS A LIVE MONGOOSE UP HIS KILT BTW. FOR THIS ENTIRE REALLY LONG SCENE THERE IS A LIVE MONGOOSE IN THERE. WHICH HE PRESUMABLY CAUGHT WITH HIS BARE FUCKING HANDS I GUESS
