Daniel's CK fashion 'choices'

Got a lovely shoutout by @puella-peanut that I may or may not have written about Daniel LaRusso's Cobra Kai colour schemes, and honestly I couldn't tell you on my life but of course I have Thoughts on them...

First off the Doylist reason is that somehow, a story that completely hinged on Daniel LaRusso is not allowed to be about Daniel LaRusso, even if it only makes sense when supposed focal point character Johnny is obsessed, still, with Daniel LaRusso. There was less to Johnny to build off of originally because he wasn't the protagonist and apparently nothing interesting happened to him in the meantime, other than his non-relationship with Robby. That would make him pale a bit as a character of course. And CK could have pointed out that this is slightly weird because say what you want about Daniel and his obsession with father figures, he was not obsessed with Johnny Lawrence. Just wasn't. The glaring void of his Dad? Yes. His absolute same shutdown after Miyagi's death? Yes. Terry Silver, whose female version he married? Yes. But not Johnny Lawrence. By your own writing choices, CK. And apparently you couldn't think of anything to fill Johnny's life with but the glaring absence of purpose and a complete overreaction to seeing an old classmate on daytime tv.

Now how weird Johnny is for that could have made a good arc, Billy and Martin Kove really tried so hard to make it make sense, through Robby even, but you told them to be good boys and say their lines. And you're dressing Daniel down because otherwise he pulls focus. In his own saga! Who'd have thunk it.

Still, without him nothing in the show makes sense. Will Johnny ever admit that he has been in love with Daniel since that punk showed up in his life, but doesn't dare do anything about his attraction to men because Kreese nearly killed him for it? I don't think the writers sold the show that way to their networks, but well. And Kreese's delusions about Terry and Terry's dormant obsession with Daniel, that Kreese poked awake with a stick... well none of that is about Johnny anymore is it? Yes you put him there, which is funny since he is so brilliantly immune to Terry. It's funny, but nothing else! Are you surprised Daniel is more compelling if Johnny does so little introspection and we've simply seen more of Daniel?

Still to go back to what we do see, and the Watsonian reasons for why Daniel mutes himself.

He's trying to not be seen, which, as a spokesperson for a brand, isn't ideal.

Ever since he was sixteen, and had started dating, he could always get along with girls, hang out, flirt, date, dance... But guys got really weird and kept trying to kill him. Until Terry, who did away with all of that and simply decided he was going to fuck him right on that dojo mat. And I'm pretty sure he did, right after he taught Daniel how to break that dummy. And that ended horrifically but I do think it clicked for Daniel. Oh. Yeah, men want to fuck me. And I'm into that... but the problem is most of them try to kill me instead. Right. Shit. And as every woman alive knows - clothing, colouring, fit, hair, it all sends a message. If you want it, random guy, know that I'm not asking for it. Really. That's not what's going on. Well unless I'm trying to sell you cars but then I need you befuddled. But I can't look too good when I do that, even. I'm a slightly higher end car sales guy. Not even luxury. This is a family company. I want you to be charmed but stop yourself from being horny. You're not into a non threatening car sales guy, OK? I need you to tell yourself it's the car. Although when Amanda and Daniel do it together I'm sure no customer knows where their head is anymore.

And when there's no car to be sold? He dresses even further down. He's married. He's not trying to be available. Stop hitting him, hitting on him, doing both - unless he's into the people hitting him because what is a little karate between friends? Still it breaks my heart that here is a man that doesn't want to be alluring - his commercials are so idiotically bad - but still is constantly objectified, and used. Does he like his sales position? Does he like being a mechanic? He does remarkably little of either. He is literally a strawman enabling Amanda to run the business - he's deflecting the sexual harassment away from her, and mitigating the misogyny, but it looks like all these years of either being hit or hit on made him afraid of being seen and that may have stunted him. Forget repressing his feelings, he's always done that. Now he's repressing himself. Even the Miyagi Do presentation in S2(?) was only in shadows.

No wonder he keeps having these strange outbursts.

GREAT QUESTION, ANON!!! i have many!

blanket statement of these are my personal headcanons which are obviously not gospel truth and don't need to be agreed with, these are just what i believe/enjoy writing about for laura lawrence.

TW: alcoholism, abortion, cancer.

i think laura was a teen mom; i think she had johnny around seventeen with a guy who was just passing by and her parents threw her out.

she didn't graduate and she got her GED. she was very very good at math and kind of wanted to become a teacher before she got pregnant.

i think she had a kind of holistic, surfer girl, live-with-the-waves vibe and she and johnny went to the beach A LOT when he was a kid because it was free to just walk around and swim.

she had lots of little jobs before meeting sid. johnny's best memory is when she was working at an ice cream parlor. she had a whole baby blue uniform and the owner was really nice.

when she met sid, he promised her that she'd be able to go back to school, maybe even go to university when they got married. quite quickly she found out he was lying.

she developed an alcohol problem four years after her marriage to sid.

around the fifth year into her marriage with sid, she found out she was pregnant and got an abortion in secret. a few months later she told sid she had to go visit an old relative in atlanta and that she'd be back soon, instead, she went to san franciqco and got a hysterectomy.

her full name is laura jean lawrence, i know the show wants me to think her maiden name was brown and that lawrence is the name of some mysterious guy but i refuse <3 johnny has his mother's name because i said so.

she was a huge rock n roll fan, all of johnny's tapes were her's first.

she was very isolated in the hills: she didn't relate to anyone in the country club and she had the bad reputation of being a gold digger. she lost track of johnny's life around that time because of the alcohol and she was never really able to pick it back up afterwards.

she went to johnny's first-ever tournament but after seeing him bleed on the mat, she settled by giving him some money for milkshakes with his friends afterwards and ironing his gi herself.

her only friend was sid's maid, an older woman named georgia who was the only person in the world who knew that laura had to get her stomach pumped three times.

the cobras all called her laura and not mrs weinberg. she liked dutch the most even though he was the most troublesome.

johnny didn't tell her about what happened in the parking lot with kreese up until sid saw the paper stalking about the accident and told her. she cried for a full day, locked in her room. the next day, she went by the cobra kai dojo at night, aware that it had already closed, and threw a brick through the window.

she sporadically sent johnny money after he moved out until she got sick and sid started making the checks.

she got liver cancer when she was 52, it all went very very fast.

she wasn't the best mom in the world; johnny made her a saint in his mind after her death but she was short-tempered and prideful. she was also loving and funny and creative, she had good sides and bad sides, like every living being.

i like to think robby looks like her a lot.

some rambles below about the potential if johnny had had a biological dad in cobra kai instead of a stepfather (i stress “rambles” this isn’t organised)

wondering about the version of johnny who does have a bio-dad who’s just like... johnny-but-worse in a different way to how kreese is johnny-but-worse, that is while johnny was presented as a spoiled rich kid who’s kind of mindlessly aggressive/being encouraged in that by kreese, his dad could be a republican (homophobic) economist or stocktrader or smthin, some guy for whom all these trappings and johnny and laura are part of the scenery of his success (like a don draper type but less charismatic) --

which is sort of what they were trying to do with sid, but that messaging got lost the second they forgot that johnny was designed to be the blonde über-american foil to the immigration and outsider daniel and miyagi story, and sid of course cannot be that metaphor! (thinks also forever fondly about the fic about sid getting into the country club, but still being an outsider, and wonders if there’s some way of incorporating that idea into this story, but for now, placing his lost potential gently aside) 

what would it mean for a johnny who really did have all the chances to do whatever he wanted, provided he played by his real life father’s rules and his dream was to... be gay do karate? was he disowned? has he essentially disowned himself? is his father dead or alive? is there still money to be had that johnny refuses to touch? does his real life father bail him out of jail over and over and that is the extent to which he’ll help him (while also being disgusted/disappointed by his continued alcoholism, not because he himself isn’t maybe an alcoholic in the correct way, but because johnny is so obvious about it or something along those lines)? would they bump into each other end s3 at the country club?

also I realise here that this is the narrative they gave to terry, and the parallel narrative would still work, considering terry did do what his family ordered him to and johnny just... couldn’t

love a good “karate is a phase” metaphor + it would have made the sources of johnny’s pain not be his jewish stepdad (reliably removed from having to be blood-related or have anything to do with johnny’s purpose in the original film) and instead be literally all the things that were put in place for boys like him to grow up into privilege and for some Unknown Reason he was unable to fulfil that expected goal 

it also would have brought johnny’s parentage more to the front, because sid is never really particularly involved in the karate war and johnny cuts ties with him pretty fast (and then ed asner died, so idk if they were intending more), but if his actual, powerful, still-invested-in-his-stock-on-some-level father were in the plot there’d be way more you could do with that (maybe especially if he were dying? johnny is his final legacy?)

+ the core of Stuff that was increasingly forgotten by the show was also that daniel and miyagi were not related by blood, they became family by choice and to have that be a stronger bond in comparison to a johnny and his biological dad....? the idea that biological family ain’t everything and you can choose! (cries in s5.....)

laura could still have been someone either someone who came from a poor background and he married her for her looks/youth, but I also like the laura who kind of parallels ali, whose parents in the first movie ofc very much try to “push” her towards a more suitable boyfriend in... the violent and disrespectful of her boundaries johnny lawrence

there’d be a whole interesting subplot at that point of characters who didn’t come from money who were able to find a way to make their own way in life, vs characters who did come from money who got trapped in cycles of violence by doing what was expected and then visited that violence on people without as much power as them in order to assert control, and johnny attempting somehow to break that cycle without knowing how or why or even that he was really doing it by breaking from his father

ofc you coulda also killed the guy early on and had johnny’s main narrative revolve around laura, but that would assume a story that puts mothers on equal footing and it always struggled with that a bit, even back in the movie days -- tbh the only thing that I would really take from all of that, is that her maiden-name was lawrence and johnny used her name the whole time, and possibly that the full break between johnny and [insert father] was her death

bringing back sid for a sec, simply to wonder about fitting in a guy like him who’s managed to get into “the club” because off the top of my head I mainly think he belongs in a slightly different story, but if someone has something they’d like to say to that am all ears!

I thought this week's Project Runway challenge of designing new uniforms for the crew on Bravos's Below Decks would be boring. It's actually interesting because the designers have lost their damn minds.

I've never watched BD, but AFAIK it's a reality show about the crew of a yacht that is rented by people to take trips to, from what little I've seen, warm weather destinations. It's a TV show, but about a real(?) working crew so the designs have to be practical as well as stylish.

Bishme's client tells her she's always hot so he decides to put her in neoprene. For those not familiar with the fabric, it's a synthetic rubber material that does not breathe. It's literally what wetsuits are made of, and is intended to keep body heat in. I actually love the way his design looks, but the absurd fabric choice ruined it for me.

Laurence is making her outfit out of leather and wool. For working on a ship. In hot weather.

Prajjé is using a black and white print that looks like lace, and his design has a peplum. It's looks very dated and cheap to me. I think it's unprofessional, and not remotely something a captain would wear.

Kara Saun's looks like a shiny, glittery Versace or Gucci outfit for hitting the town in. It also looks like he would burn up in it.

I kept wondering where I had seen Anna's design before, and finally realized it reminded me of what Johnny Lawrence wore in The Karate Kid climax, but with epaulettes stuck on it. Again it's unprofessional looking for the job, (His uniform normally includes a tie.) and not appropriate for a captain. She wants to bring in her Chinese culture which is great, but this is not the way to do it. Plus, I don't exactly think silk and salt water is a very good combination.

Brittany's is my favorite by far. Her design is stylish, modern, professional, yet very practical for his job as chief engineer. It's white top-stitching on black fabric, with lots of pockets, and a flattering fit.

Did the designers go out drinking a lot on other seasons? If so I don't remember it. I remember them exhaustedly going back to their hotel at night to sleep.

Did Anna cheat on her husband? She says, "I'm divorced for two days. I want to party with you more." I interpreted that to mean she was considering herself divorced for the two day challenge, later she says she's married and nothing happened.

But it looked like she left with the guy to me. Did I see that right? I didn't think they were allowed to go off like that though. Surely they wouldn't let that happen if for no other reason than the fact she had been drinking. She was talking and walking fine, but she did have four shots of tequila apparently pretty quickly, and other designers commented on her drinking. To me that's a lot, but I rarely drink and have the alcohol tolerance of a fruitfly so maybe I'm wrong.

Anna and Prajjé were the worst IMO. I've never been a fan of Anna's designs, but Prajjé can be great. I would send Anna home, and make Brittany the winner.

You and Johnny had been dating for a long time now; since freshman year. Just a few weeks shy of graduating, Johnny was ready to propose. He and his friends had been planning the proposal for some time now. Him wanting to take you to a nice dinner and then take you to a scenic place and finally pop the question.

Yours and Johnny’s first date wasn’t perfect, to say the least. You had met his parents and gotten their approval the first second they saw you. They could tell Johnny and you were already in love and his mom was especially happy that he found the right one for him.

But things started to fall apart as soon as you two got to dinner. He had taken you to a nice candlelit dinner with his mom sitting at the other table to give you two “privacy.” The place was extremely fancy and you both were so extremely nervous. Johnny ended up knocking his drink over, dropping food on himself, and dropping his utensils on the floor; you could tell he was embarrassed but you couldn’t help but laugh at him. You had thought he was so enduringly adorable.

After that first date you and him were inseparable. Not even wanting to separate to go to classes. You would go over to his place to do homework and he would go to yours. You both counted the days until the weekend came along so you could go on dates and hang out for most of the night doing the things you loved. Johnny had always been a gentleman to you; showing utmost respect and care. He always opted to do what you wanted. He valued you over anything.

You’d watch him in his karate class and tournaments. You two had been dating for a few weeks when he officially introduced you to his friends. You and them got along just fine and ended up hanging out with Johnny and them a lot of the time. They loved you and would ask about you all the time.

You and Johnny being constantly attached at the hip of course you two would join each other’s family dinners and work around the holidays to be able to spend time together. That was just your freshman and sophomore year.

During your junior year your classes had become more challenging leaving you two to go to your own houses to do homework and sometimes you wouldn’t be able to make it to Johnny’s karate practice. Johnny would have to cancel on some Friday nights to hang out with his friends alone because he was getting older and wanted to have a guys night and you, as well, wanted a girls night. You and Johnny grew apart for a bit which might’ve been good for you all in the long run; but at the time it had put a strain on your relationship. Everybody had their suspicions that you had broken up or were even taking a break from each other. Not really talking to each other in the hallways or anything; you had people constantly asking you if Johnny was single again or the other guys trying to flirt with you. You had even caught some girls trying to flirt with Johnny too. That’s when you both decided it was time to communicate again so you two went out to dinner a week later and had gotten into a fight, on that rainy night, in the car about him being always busy and how you were being too emotional. What sent you over the edge was when he asked you sarcastically, “Are you on the rag or something?”

“Excuse me, Johnny?”

“What? You’re acting crazy!”

“I’m acting crazy? Are you serious?” You laid your head in your hands fighting the urge to cry.

“Yeah, I’m serious. I mean, what’s your problem? You’re freaking the hell out! And for no reason!”

You raise your head back up and look him in the eyes, “Because you’ve ignored me for days, hell, WEEKS! Never answer my calls and when you do it’s the ‘I’m hanging out with my friends’ bullshit excuse,” you look away from him. You had hinted at the unimaginable and you knew Johnny wouldn’t appreciate that.

Johnny adjusts himself in his seat to look at you and he narrows his eyes, “What are you gettin’ at?”

“You know exactly what.”

“Are you kiddin’ me, babe?” Johnny looks away from you and scoffs and says, “you think I’m cheating on you?” He slams his hands on the steering wheel causing you to jump at his sudden action. Johnny tries to avoid eye contact with you. Johnny very rarely had outbursts of anger come out towards you but when he did it was hard for him to come back down from it.

The moment he said it out loud you realized how dumb it sounded but you held your ground, “Are you?” You had a 50/50 shot of him getting angrier or him becoming soft towards you.

Johnny looks back at you with soft eyes and says, “No. I’m not cheating on you.”

You almost breathe a sigh of relief but you knew if you did you’d cry.

You just look at him with no words to say.

So Johnny fills in the quiet, “I love you.”

There it was. The night Johnny Lawrence told you he loved you. He meant it too and you knew it. You were so shocked you could barely say anything to him. But you thought actions spoke louder than words that night. That was your first time making love. Including Johnny. You two had no clue what you were doing but you’d remember that night forever.

After that you and him had slowly grown closer again. You two felt that if you could make it through an almost breakup then you two could make it through anything.

Senior year rolled around and you two were still inseparable. Spending practically the entire Summer together and then going back to school and feeling like nothing would come between you two. You had gone to his karate practices again and went to each other’s places to do homework again; and hung out with each other constantly.

Johnny couldn’t wait until after graduation; he was going to ask you that night. He had put some money away with every allowance his parents gave him to be able to afford the ring and dinner. Today was the day he was going to pick up the ring for you; you were upset that he didn’t want to hang out with you that evening being afraid that he was wanting to break up with you. Fortunately, Johnny had felt quite the opposite of that.

Johnny, his mother, and Tommy had gone down to pick up the ring. Johnny wanting approval and help from his mother and Tommy just wanted to tag along due to him being the “master planner” for the whole proposal. They acquire the very expensive ring and Johnny finds a good hiding spot for it.

Totally oblivious to this you walked by that ring for almost two weeks straight without even knowing it. You had suspected something when you walked up to Johnny and his friends talking real quietly at school and they immediately went silent and Johnny was overly sweet to you making you forget about their awkward behavior all together.

Johnny had taken you out on multiple dates, scarily expensive dates you might add, before graduation and you wanted to question him about him but he would just drop the question and distract you with other activities to do for the rest of the night.

His friends had even become awkward around you. Not talking to you half as much or honestly they didn’t recognize your existence most of the time; they weren’t exactly rude about it but you just couldn’t put your finger on why they weren’t speaking as much anymore.

Of course, your brain had thought the worst scenario multiple times but you never questioned his friends on why they were being weird. You never fully questioned Johnny on why he was being extra nice and spending extra time with you; but you didn’t really have a reason to complain.

After graduation Johnny took you to the same place you had your first date at and you automatically got butterflies in your stomach. You still remembered that night like it was yesterday. You two get seated and have a minute to talk to each other.

“You remember this place?” Johnny asks with a smile on his face.

“Uh, yeah of course I do!” You chuckle, “you klutz.”

Johnny facepalms, “Oh God, I had almost forgot what a nerd I was back in the day!”

You two laugh and you look at him and say, “Johnny, I knew from that day that you were the one.”

Johnny smiles, “Me too.”

You two finish up dinner and he takes you to an outlook that looks over the city.

“Johnny, this is beautiful!”

Johnny had the perfect opportunity to use this line, “Not as beautiful as you!”

“Oh! You’re the worst! You’re so cheesy,” you laugh.

You turn back around and look over the city, “I cannot believe that we graduated today. It’s surreal.”

“Yeah, I know right. I’m happy to be out of that place. Good riddance!”

“Johnny, why do I have the feeling that you’re gonna be the guy that peaked in high school, huh?” You start laughing at Johnny

“Oh, you suck!” Johnny laughs with you.

After you stop laughing you both look back at the city and you Johnny snake his arms around you and lay his head on your shoulder and you say, “What do you think is gonna happen to us?”

“What do you mean?”

“I just– do you think this is it?” Your mind is filling you with doubt about the future about you two.

“Actually,” Johnny lets go of you and runs to the car real quick leaving you standing there alone. You had no idea what he was about to say or do but you expected the worst. Johnny runs back to you and immediately gets down on one knee and your hands cover your mouth to hide your shock.

“Y/N, I have loved you ever since our freshman year. Since the moment I looked into your eyes and the moment you said, ‘hello’ to me,” Johnny takes a small breath and you quietly whisper, “Johnny.”

“Y/N, will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

You felt the tears fall from your eyes and your smile was so wide that your cheeks almost hurt, “Yes, Johnny Lawrence, I will marry you!”

Johnny shouts, “Yes!” And puts the engagement ring on your finger and you take a look at it and say, “It’s beautiful!”

That Summer felt like a whirlwind. You were already shopping around for the wedding even though it was almost a year away. You were so excited to marry the love of your life.

After you two tied the knot together you two started trying for a family. You two kept trying for over a year until you got fed up and decided to see a doctor. You had gotten your diagnosis finding out that you were basically infertile. You and Johnny were devastated. You two grew apart again for a while. No matter what Johnny did, you still felt alone; you, especially, wanted to be alone. It was hard accepting the fact that you two would never have a family together. Most of the time you laid in bed mulling over that fact. Your lives essentially became work, come home, eat dinner, and go to bed. Nothing ever changed for you two and it had gotten to the point where you two would avoid each other at all costs besides the simple, “goodbye” or “be careful.” Most of the time Johnny had slept on the couch because you were too depressed to really look at him.

One night over dinner Johnny had reached out and grabbed your hand and you pulled away.

Johnny felt the tears well up in his eyes but he pushed them back saying, “Why do you hate me?”

“Why don’t you hate me?” You say weakly.

“Hate you? Why would I ever hate you?”

“I’m not good enough.”

“What?”

You couldn’t handle the pain anymore. You wanted Johnny to find someone who could make him whole again, “Find someone who lights that spark in you again.”

Johnny looks at you confused, “You think you don’t do that for me?”

“There’s no way. I’m infertile. I’m nothing.”

Johnny grabs your hand again, “That’s bullshit. You’re my everything.”

You look up at Johnny with weak eyes, “Please. Don’t lie to me.”

“Why would I lie?”

You had nothing to say so you just looked away from him.

“I love you, Y/N. Always have and I always will.”

Johnny pulls you into a hug and you accept the hug. You and him hadn’t hugged each other for a long time now. Emotions started rushing through you. You started crying into his shoulder.

“I’m so sorry,” that’s all you could mutter.

After that night you and Johnny talked about doing fertility treatments. You agreed with him and decided to try it out. After plenty of doctors appointments and treatments you and Johnny had gotten pregnant.

You and him were extra careful during those nine months. You ate specific foods, stopped smoking, and Johnny had gotten you anything that you craved. It was truly nine months of bliss. The day eventually came; you had gone into labor. You had already packed your bags with clothes and toiletries for the hospital. You both were prepared for anything.

But Johnny wasn’t prepared for what happened.

Losing you was the last thought that had crossed his mind. His baby came out beautiful and perfect but he couldn’t bear the thought of raising him without you.

You and Johnny had discussed baby names many times and both agreed on “Robert Swayze” if it was a boy and if it was a girl “Molly Cher.”

The baby was a boy so Johnny stayed true to his word and named him “Robert Swayze.” Johnny eventually started calling him “Robby” for short.

Many nights Johnny cried when Robby would cry at night. He would cry when he mixed the formula, he would cry he would dress Robby, even he cried when he looked at Robby. About three months passed by and Johnny had gotten into the swing of things especially with the help of some alcohol on the side. Every time he would put Robby down for a nap he would drink. Started with one beer and then he progressed to three beers.

Johnny kept it together for awhile; sending Robby to school and helping him with homework and when Robby would go to bed Johnny would drink. Johnny eventually became an alcoholic by the time Robby had turned 10 years old. Robby was old enough to make his own food, do his own homework, and get himself to bed while his father laid there wasting away.

Robby knew what his dad was doing was wrong. He hadn’t wrapped his head around it completely yet but he knew his Dad should have been more interested in him. Robby got himself through elementary and middle school by the skin of his teeth.

Then he was old enough to get a job. The more he was away from his father the better. Johnny still had his job but he didn’t go in a lot. Robby knew he would eventually have to carry some of the bills on his own.

One night when Robby had gotten home from work he was greeted to Johnny sitting at the kitchen table crying.

“Dad?” Robby said worriedly.

“Oh? Hey, son,” Johnny laid the pictures down on the table and sniffled.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Just thinking about the old days,” Johnny said.

Robby reluctantly takes a seat beside his Dad. He had never seen Johnny like this before. They were never close with each other. Never talked to his dad about his day or what he was up to. He never knew what to say.

“You know, you have your mom’s eyes,” Johnny chokes out.

“I do?”

Johnny nods his head and slides the picture over to Robby. Robby picks it up and looks at his mother. He decides that he did look a lot like her. How he wishes he could’ve met her.

“She was the sweetest, kindest, most compassionate woman you’d ever meet,” Johnny says with a genuine tone, “she was so warm. So beautiful, ya know?”

Robby nods his head listening intently.

“I loved her so much. She was my everything.”

Robby looks back down at the picture feeling the pain in his chest. He felt his heart breaking for his father. But he was still angry at him.

“Is that why you don’t like me, Dad?” Robby starts to get teary eyed.

Johnny looks dumbfounded at his son. All of the memories of raising Robby flooded back to him. Johnny knew he wasn’t the best father. But he didn’t think he was a bad one.

“Don’t act surprised, Dad. We never really bonded. You always ignored me. Always.”

“Robby, I’m sorry.”

Robby puts the picture down and feels the anger seep out of him, “Sorry? That’s it?”

Johnny gets defensive, “What the hell do you want from me?”

Robby scoffs, “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe for you to be a better father? A better person?” Robby grabs the beer can and throws it against the wall and yells, “And for you to throw that shit away! She’s gone! There’s nothing we can do about that!”

Johnny stands up, “What the hell!”

“Do you know how much anger I have inside of me? All of the time? All of the pain and sadness you’ve caused me for all of these years? Do you even know!”

Johnny softens a bit, “I’m sorry.”

“If you were sorry then you’d change!” Robby feels the tears come out, “please. Change. I can’t take it anymore. And all you ever do is take and take from me. I’m so tired. Please,” Robby hated to grovel but he couldn’t help it. It’s how he felt. He wanted to save his Dad.

“Robby,” Johnny pulls Robby into a hug and he lets Robby cry.

“I’m so tired of being ignored. I’m so tired of feeling like you don’t want me. I’m so sorry that I killed her. I’m sorry.”

Robby felt Johnny tense up. What he had said struck a nerve in Johnny.

Johnny says, “That is not your fault. You couldn’t help that.”

“I killed her.”

“No, you didn’t.”

“Why do I feel that way then?”

Johnny looks at his son, “Because I made you feel that way. I am so sorry.”

Johnny and Robby separate and Johnny continues, “I am going to change. I am going to change for you.”

For the first time in a long time Robby felt hope. He wanted this for so long. Living with the burden of his father hating him for the murder of his mother. For so long he had those feelings so deep inside of him. He never had the guts to tell his father. But now he did.

After that talk Johnny had mustered up the courage to talk to Robby about how his Mom was. How she acted, what her favorite food was, what her favorite movie or tv show was, and practically anything and everything about her. Robby and Johnny had gotten closer with each other and would go out to eat or go to the theater and watch movies. Johnny even took Robby to the spot where Johnny proposed. The spot looked a lot different than how it did from all those years ago but the memories remained.

If it wasn’t for that moment that night Robby and Johnny wouldn’t have gotten to do the things to help themselves heal. If it weren’t for you those two would have never been the duo they were today and all the thanks and love they had in them was all for you.

So Johnny reminds me of my dad if he had made bad decisions, was obsessed with karate and childhood rivalries, and had never grown up. That means nothing to everyone else, but is endlessly hilarious to me.

It’s honestly tied between Nick and Ernie, but nothing makes me laugh more than “Im GoNnA kIcK yOuR aSs MaN” and “I’M A MAN JESSICA”-- Two quotes that have been integrated into mine and my fiancé's reference library and are utilized way too often.

5. Marshall Eriksen, How I Met Your Mother

My other brother from the mother(land). My Minnesotan betcha buddy. Good friend, good husband, good father. Probably exactly what I’m going to be like when I get married (this a worldwide warning).

4. Darryl Philbin, The Office

My favorite Office character because he takes no shit and always says it like it is. A good sense of humor, but a low tolerance for bullshit. He is me. We are one.

So let’s say that Daniel and Terry had sex after the “desire” scene in KK3. But then Terry still betrays Daniel horribly. Poor Daniel would be devastated at that, years later I think. This man was his second love, first one with a man, and probably the first time he’d ever slept with anyone. And it was all a lie. Daniel has always been such an open hearted, trusting, sweet and somewhat naive kinda guy, so I don’t think he’d ever forgive Terry for that one. And I think Terry would be kicking himself over it years later, realizing too late he always loved the LaRusso brat. The one that got away indeed…

Daniel is devastated at all that. Look at the poor bean. Those Kill Bill sirens at the mere mention of Cobra Kai are not about Johnny Lawrence. Because the first reaction to Johnny Lawrence is giving him a big ol' hug.

And Terry's Kill Bill sirens go off at rejection. Damn it does he take that badly. Kreese chooses Johnny Lawrence over him? Jail for Kreese. But he doesn't do much to Daniel this time, did we all notice? A bit of posturing, don't steal my champion Robby, but he actually protects Daniel from retribution from Kreese in S4. He doesn't react after Chozen's play other than to warn him. He retaliates against Mike when Daniel contacts him. Only when he still won't stop, and then tells Terry he wants nothing to do with him, does he actually retaliate. (Yeah, yeah, what a saint.)

Anyway. I think that both didn't really understand what happened between them. Terry didn't realise he was in love. Daniel's confused because he felt the love but his brain tells him it was all a lie, and that he can't trust his heart. (And to Daniel, that fucks up his entire way of relating to the world. It is bad.)

But his heart wasn't actually wrong. "Silver's a psychopath," Daniel says, because that is the only explanation for Terry's behaviour if he didn't feel anything.

But Silver is very much not a psychopath. He was in love. He just felt his loyalty to, and love for Kreese should outweigh it.

But he's never been as important to Kreese as Kreese was to him. (Which is not to say Kreese didn't feel anything). And maybe Daniel doesn't want to be with him, but he can make him do things he doesn't want to do, he can make him love him (oh, Terry, no you can't. He already loves you. He married your female counterpart. Whom he loves, too).

He loves you, Terry, but he can't trust his own heart around anything to do with you anymore. And there's karma for you.

And yet, as Amanda is the living proof, it never went anywhere.

Neither did Terry's.

After the whole beach incident, Johnny was definitely not recovering anytime soon. Not only was he injured physically, but his heart was well and truly broken.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like this Y/N.” Your twin brother Bobby admitted to you, as the two of you walked slightly behind the Cobra Kai’s.

“He’s heartbroken Bob, what do you expect? It’s not exactly a walk in the park.” You told him with a frown. Walking towards your first period of the day, it was noticeable how hurt Johnny was. As one of his life-long friends anyway, you’d noticed his whole demeanour do a 180 into more of an asshole.

“Students welcome! Before you take your seats, I have a new seating arrangement in order for your senior year!” Your teacher announced, making all of the students groan in annoyance.

“Tommy and Bobby, you can sit together at the back on the right.” He began listing the names. By the time it was your name being called out, it was just you and Johnny.

“Looks like we’re gonna be Physics partners for the year Johnny.” You smiled and he just nodded. Boy this was going to be one long year. He didn’t speak to you for the whole lesson - despite the attempts of you trying to have a conversation with him.

“Someone pissed in his breakfast this morning.” One of the students snickered but before he could make a comeback, you were quick to beat him.

“You’re gonna be eighteen years old next year, so shut your damn mouthes, assholes.” You snapped, making them turn a blind eye and act clueless.

“Miss Y/N, is there a problem back there?” And you just shook your head no. Johnny looked at you strangely.

“I can handle myself you know?” Johnny told you.

“Funny you should say that, because all I’m trying to do is be a supportive best friend.” You sighed. The class was soon over and you found yourself at your locker.

“Did you hear about Johnny and Ali? I heard he broke her radio at the beach last night.” What was it with kids and their right to gossip about your friend today?

“Yeah you ought to keep his name out your mouth sweet-heart because I’m not having another person talk shit on him.” You slammed your locker door, scaring both of the girls.

“Oh so when you get confronted, you suddenly become silent?” You raised an eyebrow. The Cobra Kai’s watched this whole conversation go down, considering their lockers were only metres from yours.

“Why does she keep doing this?” Johnny couldn’t lose his bad reputation, just because people were talking bad about him. He could handle himself.

“Dude that’s my sister and may I clarify, your best friend. Do you want her to just stand there and have to listen to all of that?” Bobby questioned.

“She’s so in love with you-“ Dutch began.

“Watch your mouth.” Bobby shut him up. But that one comment just stayed on Johnny’s mind for the rest of the day. Were you in love with him? Or was Dutch just trying to get into his head.

“Hey Johnny, wait up!” You called out to him at the end of the day. He was surprisingly on his own.

“You’re not going home right now.” You told him.

“What do you mean Y/N?” Johnny sighed.

“You’re going to get in my car, we’re going to the drive-through, then we could go to Golf N Stuff.” You insisted on all of these activities for one reason, and one reason only. It was your mission to successfully get Johnny over his heartbreak.

“I just want to go home, I’m not really up for anything today.” He went to turn around and you grabbed him by the bicep to prevent him going any further away from you.

“I can deal with you being an asshole all day because you’re heartbroken, but you’ve never denied my request for the drive-through.” You wiggled your eyebrows.

“I can’t just leave my motorcycle here.” Johnny told you.

“I’ll drive you back here after we’ve had food.” You suggested and of course he caved in.

“How you convince me to do all of this stuff, will forever amaze me.” Johnny said as he put his seat-belt on.

“You’ve been there at my worst Johnny, I’d be an awful friend if I didn’t return the favour.” There you went again with the term ‘friend’. Was he overthinking it because he’d just lose his girlfriend? Or was he frustrated that he couldn’t just make you his in a heart-beat? His head and his heart were telling him a million different things.

“Why’d you keep staring at me like that?” You asked him with a chuckle as you pulled up to a red light.

“How’d you know I was staring?”

“I know everything about you Johnny.” You muttered. Once the two of you had your food, you two just sat in your car.

“Thought you were taking us to Golf N Stuff?” Johnny said confused as the two of you remained in the parking lot.

“I just want to talk to you Johnny. You’ve gotta open up to me. Even if you don’t want to. I know how your brain thinks, it’s eating you up and no offence, but you’ve turned into more of an asshole.” That’s what he loved about you, the honesty. No wait? Loved about you? What?

“I guess seeing her with Larusso wasn’t what I was expecting. I know it’s been a few weeks, but I at least thought she’d still, you know? Want to be my girlfriend.” He admitted.

“A guy shows up out of the blue and you felt threatened. You’re allowed to be. The heart works in mysterious ways Johnny. It’s going to hurt for a while, but you’ll be okay.” You reassured him.

“And I can promise you, and I mean really promise you, that I’ll always have your back. Even if you don’t want me to, I’m not gonna stand there and take anyone’s bullshit. We’ve been best friends since we were in diapers.” He chuckled, trying to reminisce the days when you guys were kids.

“You don’t know how much that means to me Y/N.” Johnny felt his heart beat faster, not in a dangerous way, but a loving way.

“I do these things because I care and worry about you. As much as you don’t want to show this heartbroken act, I’ll always be your shoulder to cry on.” You side-hugged him as you two were still in the car.

“Thank-you Y/N. I guess I need a girl to talk to, considering you’ll probably listen to me a lot more than the guys, and take it seriously.” He told you.

“Don’t worry about thanking me Johnny. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll end up married?” You joked, but who’s to say that wouldn’t be the case in the future?
