what do you think the ghosts would be like as fathers?
Ooh the Ghosties as fathers, this is a good one. Prepare for me to get maybe a little too in depth below the cut, cus this got too gahdamn long lol
Hesh- peak dad/husband material. giggling kicking his feet ‘n crying when he finds out he’s gonna be a father lol. he’d be as involved as possible and I see this being something he’s the most proud of in his life. i think a bit of cycle breaking would be going on with him as far as the way he and Logan were raised (looking at you Elias, yea🤨), he’d do things a little different but in a good way. would still model his parenting style quite a bit after Elias’ though in many ways. def a worrier too, and may be a little overbearing sometimes bc of it
Logan- similar to Hesh, he’d be an enthusiastic dad I think. would brag about his kids consistently, regardless of what they do/become. type to be like “my kid made macaroni art at school the other day, it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen” lmao. i see him also being veryyy supportive in general, like do/be whatever you want, as long as you’re a good person. would also parent similar to how he and Hesh were raised, but i almost see him being more lenient in some ways. def the kind to let his kids learn from their mistakes and learn good, though.
Elias- ofc we saw a lot of how he was as a father in the game (lots of debatable choices being made💀), but i think he honest to god, like most parents, did the best he could. doesn’t necessarily excuse certain things, and i think Hesh specifically prob has a lot of baggage from that, but he was also a good dad in many ways methinks. generally solid father material alongside the easily criticizable behavior LMAO
Merrick- first, he def gives me girl dad energy lol. but regardless, i see him being very very loving to his kid(s) actually, like “this is my heart and soul, everything is for them, I live breath and die for them” type shit. I can see him being a bit strict at times, mostly due to his protective nature. under the personality we see from him in the game, I think his kids/kids in general would probably bring out a goofier side of him too, the dad jokes would be unlocked immediately lol
Keegan- I see him being like a mix of Hesh ‘n Merrick tbh. Very very proud to be a father, like “I’d put it on my resume if I could”, and would love unconditionally. i think he’d be the type to maybe be a bit overbearing/intense at times like Hesh, mostly due to how much he cares about his kids wellbeing/success in life. also very supportive, and i could see him struggling a bit with how to juggle his fatherhood vs his career (like a lot of military parents tbh). he’d be the kinda dad that his kid(s) really respect i think
Kick- i honestly can’t see him being a father too much, i think he’d probably be the one here to not have kids. however if he were a father, he’d take it very seriously. i think he’d be the loving and goofy kind, his personality would really shine as a dad methinks. in his kids early years, I think he’d be tweaking out a lot like “what if I’m not good enough, what if something happens to them”, but as they get older i see his attitude almost changing like “oh yea, they love to swan dive off the back of the couch, we just let them” lol.
Rorke-pre fed here cause let’s be honest…🫥. i see him being a great dad, probably struggles with balancing that vs his career like Keegan might. he’d also be a bragger when he could like Logan, but in a more “yea my kid is on the honor roll…literally got all A’s, wtf can your kid do?🙄”proud type way lmfao. i see him being very dynamic as a father, a bit strict but a bit lax. sometimes he’s more present, sometimes he’s not. I think he’d value teaching and guiding his kid(s) like Elias. also a “you’ll learn your lesson” type of guy. you fuck up and complain and he’s like “hmm, tough shit, better luck next time” after he imparts his fatherly wisdom about it lol

i’ve got an unpopular opinion that i’m not sure how you’re gonna feel about but sam evans to me, is like a diet brittany pierce with some finn hudson thrown in
like he makes micro aggressions to mercedes friends and the scene plays him off as awkward and quirky for saying those things then he never really apologises or learns from it, which gives a lot of brittany energy
then when mercedes is questioning the relationship he doesn’t consider mercedes feelings and makes about how sad he is that he can’t date the girl he wants, which feels like something finn would do
i still significantly prefer him over those two because he had some decent redeeming factors like his friendship with blaine and tina as well as having some good storylines, but i just can’t get over how some of his actions really remind me of those two
👀👀
i hate to say it, i hope i don't sound ridiculous... i don't know who this man is you're making some good points
Honestly my love for Sam comes mostly from clinging to s2 Sam. And that's what made him drop down from like number 5 to number 8 on my list of favorite characters. But tbh at this point he might not even be in the top 10 lol. Sad day
Like season 2 Sam is pretty great. Standing up for Kurt, being a hopeless romantic but also kind of a dumb ass lmao. Dumb ass with a heart of gold. Who is a nerd and is dyslexic and is taking care of his kid siblings. Lots to work with, off to a good start
S3 Sam is honestly also kind of a mess but idc bc everyone and everything sucks especially hard that season. I hate his whole "idc who you're with, I'm gonna get you back!" bullshit but it also kind of cancels out bc every couple had a moment like that lmao. Kurt, Brittany, Finn. I can't single Sam out as the worst, even if none of the behavior is good
And then s4 I don't ENTIRELY hate. It's like with Blaine, where I don't think it's fair to cry "character regression" and have that be the end of it. Like s2 Sam is dealing with a ton of stress. He's literally homeless, and basically has to act like a parent towards his little siblings. And then s3 he gets the Puck treatment where he's a teenager getting involved with older women for money and ??? it's a gag for part of one ep then hardly brought up again except to lightly slut shame him lol thnx blaine
So yeah. That's a lot for any 16 year old to deal with. But then once s4 comes around and he's got a lot less stress and responsibilities, I don't mind him acting a little goofier and having fun. But of course they didn't stop there. They had to dumb him down to make him the male Brittany then made Brittany a math genius for no reason and Sam was left in the dust and never recovered lol
And yeah s5 is a bit of a hot mess. He has good moments here and there but holy shit all the racist comments and microaggressions and it's like, s2 Sam would never do this. They're basically two separate entities at this point. His best writing towards the end of the season came at the hands of Chris, and I'm forever grateful for that. Then s6 was kind of ??? again who cares bc everything and everyone was a hot damn mess
But idk. It's probably easier to cling to him as a beloved character bc we got to see all his good moments first and foremost. So that's what people think about when they think Sam Evans. His worst moments are on par with Brittany's, sadly. Well maybe just the ignorant comments. He never tried to out someone three separate times. And no one can come close to Finn's public outing and multiple slur droppings he truly is the worst. But I think he has more redeemable moments than Brittany and Finn combined lmao. Which is why he's so much higher on my ranking and the other two are constantly flip flopping at the bottom

10 characters - 10 fandoms
Have done that already but why not find out if I don’t have ten more favourite fandoms/characters. The first post, funnily enough, also initiated by you, so thanks for tagging me @citrus-cactus!
Choose 10 different fandoms and pinpoint your favorite character from each one. Then tag 10 more.
Characters I remember from the first post are Taichi Yagami, Dorothy Williams, Urs of the Snows, Charlie Weasley, and Bella Cullen, so I won’t be looking at them again.
Digimon Franchise
Sora Takenouchi. As mentioned in similar posts, she’s one of my favourites because we were so similar. We both like football/soccer, Taichi Yagami, we are the mom friend, in later years we stand more on the outside observing than throwing ourselves straight into the action.
Tumblr media
Lukas (ZDF)
Lukas Lenz. Title character of the German tv show, he struggles with career, body images, family, and maybe also with sexual orientation. The show in general is surprisingly progressive for the late 1990s in German public tv, but deals with topics like queerness, teen pregnancy, single-parenting and much more in a very light but never disrespecting tone. The discovery of the last year for me.
Tumblr media
The Invisible Library series
Peregrine Vale. As much as I’d like to be badass like Irene or able to transform into a freaking dragon (an absolute dream tbh) like Kai, I pick Vale. He seems stiff but has actually no problem at all to roll with whatever crazy and illegal stuff Irene throws upon him. It’s also super funny how they drag him into nearly any adventure no matter which world it happens in.
(Please take this stock photo as a placeholder as noone has drawn/otherwise visualized him [in a way I’d agree with] on any platform, unfortunately.)
Tumblr media
Pacific Rim
Mako Mori. She has her own diversity test. I think that says it all. (Everything about her agency and bravery has been pointed out before.)
Tumblr media
Ku’Damm 56
Rudi Hauer. A pity Eva hasn’t stayed with him, the cute goalkeeper from the GDR team, but has decided on marrying an old abusive doctor. I get that Rudi was married and lived in a different (hostile) state. Still, better than having to prostitute herself to escape her husband’s iron grip.
Tumblr media
Castle
Kate Beckett. One of those female characters that walk a tightrope between being unbelievably hot’n’badass and just being a trophy wife for a goofier male character. Luckily, she never falls, and also passes the Mako Mori test, meaning that many of her actions don’t revolve around a man but her family and the tragic story that includes. And underneath all that coolness she reveals, after a bit of tickling by Castle, that she can be just as big a doofus as he is.
(The only thing I don’t get, just like in Rizzoli and Isles or any superhero movie, is that she wears heels most of the time when she has to frequently run after criminals.)
Tumblr media
MCU
Peggy Carter. Period clothing, especially mid-century, is always a plus-point. And Peggy pulls it off meticulously, even in the thorniest situations. While I’m also a big fan of women getting messy when things get messy, Peggy’s perfection highlights that you don’t have to become a man to succeed in a man’s world. I know that Marvel/Disney is a money-gobbling machine (and assholes) for putting the very interesting concept of “What if..” behind a paywall but I’m absolutely in love with buff Captain Peggy Carter. (Won’t become a member of Disney+ just for that, though.)
Tumblr media
In aller Freundschaft: Die jungen Ärzte
Dr. Elias Bähr (Bährchen). My reaction towards him can be pretty much summed-up with *heart eyes*  - big ones! He’s soft and caring, which makes his angry moments even sharper. A little awkward, he’s the number one friend among the assistant doctors, which makes it a little difficult to lead them after his promotion. A well-rounded character. The only problem is that one shoe-horned affair he was supposed to have because, actually, dear show runners, he’s asexual if you haven’t noticed.
P.S. Don’t get me started on his swinging hips!
(I would like to add a gif I made showcasing exactly that but tumblr doesn’t let me upload it...)
Tumblr media
Zootopia
Benjamin Clawhauser. I’m not exactly invested in the Zootopia fandom but as so many others I’ve locked Benjamin Clawhauser in my heart. Yeah, with his abundant appettite he’s the butt of more than one joke. Yet he’s unapologetically himself, both for his love for donuts and for Gazelle. I also don’t want to deny him his loving relationship with Chief Bogo.
Tumblr media
Adolars Phantastische Abenteuer
Adolar. I was obsessed with this show when I was around twelve years old (just like Adolar). So obsessed that I started talking like him which very much annoyed my family. Now I’m only using a couple of catchphrases here and there, whenever a word triggers my memory. But I do remember that I also wanted to build my own inflatable spaceship and started looking around on what everyday items I could turn into equipment. Even now I wouldn’t mind travelling to an interesting planet without any obligations whatsoever.
Tumblr media
Tagging @utrinque-paratus, @born-deaf-blind-and-numb, @rooonil-waazlib, @deltermeemer, @wrathbite, @earanie, @thiswomanwearsglasses, @farisya-yodalmighty and anyone who’s in the mood!

you mentioned possibly doing a ben or mike writing guide.. would you.. be willing to post a mike one. i'm plotting a fic and im struggling to get my mans down?? also i think abt ur fics weekly bare minimum.
hi there!!! i did my best. i tried to not sound preachy or like a know it all bc y’all know i can barely write. i hope this is helpful in some way!! disclaimer of of course this is all just my opinion & there’s no wrong way to write, you’re the only person who can tell your story!!
i think the first really important decision you have to make as Person Writing Mike is his
family & background
-are both of his parents alive?
-if yes, what’s their relationship like?
-if no, who’s his primary caretaker? what’s their relationship like?
-if no, when did they die? did he cope well with it? what’s his relationship with their memory like?
these are really really where you gotta start to write mike imo. or any character! i think one thing stephen king is to be admired for is he doesn’t neglect the parent-child relationship as so many people who write youth do. your parents are the most important people in your life for a long time. i don’t think there’s a wrong or ooc way to answer the above questions tbh. canon has really left a wide open field for you to run amuck in.
(example: i’ve mentioned in the past that my & tfat mike being a small adult is no mistake and intentional. it’s a bit of a throwaway scene, but i mention in on pointe that mike’s parents are coming. it’s intentionally done there too. mike is goofier, more outgoing, more immature in general in that fic in the small bits he’s in & that’s all a response to his familial life. )
culture + friendships
after you answer those questions, important follow up questions are:
-are the losers his first set of friends?
-how much social exposure has he had?
-has he dated? who is he attracted to?
-who influences him? (celebrities, family, culturally)
-what are his cultural interests? what does he do in his free time? how would that impact how he interacts with the rest of the world?
again, no wrong way to answer these. i’ve seen a super broad spectrum of indirect answers to these questions. even thinking about where he might pick up patterns of speech can make him feel much more like a realized character. i’ve noticed some people dip fully into aave to an extent that doesn’t even seem logical in their character’s current situation & it can really seem like a caricature, but i think to write mike without any sense of aave at all is a little ?? too. just be cognizant of it is my only real advice here. it doesn’t so much matter as long as you don’t forget who mike is which next point
humor & personality
-what do you think he would find (shows, comedians, youtube videos) really funny?
-does he have something he quotes often? something he started saying ironically but never stopped?
man i know i’m all there’s no wrong way to write mike !! in this post but i will say real quick that i think mike is funny and i don’t really respect depictions of him where he’s not. i think this is where the movies really just fucked up. book mike drops some of the funniest lines of the book. and honest to god tip is to write out a scene as you feel the urge too, look away for five minutes, look back and give half of richie’s lines away. (or... dialogue.) this sounds like a joke but it was what i did when i first started writing & tfat
i’d always be like “n the funny part goes... to richie.” and thats a fandom inclination too. nooooo. avoid this trap. it doesn’t even make sense. have u ever been in a friend group where only one person... makes jokes? that’d be genuinely so weird. especially bc if you give the joke away to someone else, you can also build on it. amazing things start happening when u start thinking of the characters in flexible patterns. like for example, i almost always give absurdist humor to stan now. wholesome to ben.
mike’s humor is largely situational to me. solid comedic timing & he’s an observant person. sometimes i read back my own writing & have to change the pov bc richies making jokes about things he would never ever notice to make fun of. mike would. mike genuinely sees all. i think he’s just got one of the most analytical brain of the losers. & i think intelligence is subjective and people are smart in different ways but i think it’s foolish to write him as anything other than incredibly intelligent both academically and emotionally. he’s just a natural observer and pattern notice-er. which brings me to my next mike thing:
love & selflessness
i think the biggest part of mike being harder to flesh into a fully realized person is the fandom tendency to make him kind and nothing else. here’s mike. he’s nice. next. bc the book kind of points out his selflessness in his decisions and it makes itself one of his strongest character traits.
especially bc nice seems to trump him having any other emotions. ...no?
i believe in general, but ESPECIALLY in the case of mike, that kindness is a choice. it’s one i genuinely believe he’d make, over & over again. but a choice he makes. he gets annoyed with his friends being annoying like anyone else would. he gets hurt when he feels left out. he feels tired & anxious & hungry and all those other human things. sometimes he might not let it show outwardly, but there’s a difference between that and not giving him feelings at all.
people are selfish. it’s a defense mechanism. it’s to protect us. it’s not a bad thing. we think of how the world impacts ourselves first. we don’t always act upon those thoughts or voice them, but don’t forget to let mike have them. he doesn’t need to be happy for his friends all the time, or rooting for them or supportive. he should have his own things going on.
also. mike’s not a doormat. yes, he stays in derry. but those were life-death consequences for generations of children. it’s really not comparable to almost any decision mike would make in a pennywise free universe. yes, he made a sacrifice in the book but i don’t think he’d just lay himself down in any given universe to whatever fate wants to hand him. but this is where i end this topic bc i’m actually only barely beginning to get to this topic in my own fic!
it’s hard writing the losers young sometimes bc i do feel relationships are naturally a little unbalanced based on basic maturity levels as young people. sometimes friendships just are unbalanced bc of who people are at that time. everyone involved can still be good people in these relationships. it’s about growing together and learning how to be good friends to each other.
for example, in &tfat: certain losers are always checking in with others. others are really wrapped up in their own shit and don’t really notice what bothers the others. it would probably take a chart the size of a textbook to explain how i think this dynamic wholly pans out in full. and yeah, i think it grates on mike a little bit that he is always the checker and never the checkee.
but even when mike snaps, even when he gets upset, i always write it coming out of him with a lot of love. i genuinely think mike, regardless of experience in that fic, has the deepest understanding of love as its own concept and an understand of how exactly it rules his life and and his relationships. mike knows to feel strongly about something he has to care about it. there are lots of things he just doesn’t care about. in the book it’s stated he’s difficult to connect with as an adult. he’s distant. he’s focused on what he wants to focus on. i think mike is actually the most interesting when he becomes a little bit of a disaster man with very little time for what doesn’t interest him.
which last thing, dislikes & disinterests
-what annoys him?
-what makes him genuinely angry?
-what bores him to tears?
i always make jokes that i bring up the nastier parts of the losers bc i love nasty boys but thinking of things people don’t like is as much a part of them as the things they do.
for example, in &tfat, i write richie as making fun of “nerdy” things like anything you could find at comic con. i write bev as not giving a fuck about sports. bill doesn’t care about richie’s music tastes. eddie hates getting condescended to.
bc of the ... kind thing, mike’s one of the harder losers to do this with. i genuinely think mike would listen to any of his friends tell him about anything. & he knows, in return, they can’t say shit when he wants to ramble about history. but dislikes can also be super situational.
again, for example in & tfat: mike doesn’t like when his friends talk about college right now. no one is really being sensitive to him at all. he hates getting blamed for stuff that isn’t his fault, mostly bc it keeps happening.
anyway. i based a lot of my mike (mostly sense of humor and personality) off of a mix of real life friends of mine. it’s a luxury. i know. i’ve been blessed to have friends from literally all walks of life & for me borrowing little habits & quirks & sayings & jokes to slip into my fics and characters is my way of writing one massive love letter to those ive known. i hope i’ve helped you in some way anon. n if not.... don’t be sad i’m hardly one to take writing advice from anyway jandjxjx
overall, as i used to do often, i’d genuinely stop myself and say: is this a person, or a convenience for the plot? and if it was the latter, sigh, and get my backspace key ready.

i know you said you wouldn’t talk about mg for a while and i don’t say this to upset you, i’ve just been really curious to hear about character interpretations from the tour cast and would love to know if you noticed anything super unique/different about their takes !
hey, no sweat. i did not intend on seeing the tour this week but because i ended up doing so i think i kind of expected i’d end up talking about it, lmao.
the entire tour cast was truly fantastic, but jonalyn/mary kate were the ones that i felt really stood out from their broadway counterparts.
i saw jonalyn as karen a few times when she understudied the role on broadway and she was my favorite cover, but the way she’s evolved the role for tour is just…oh my god. her karen is full of boundless energy and dopey joy and it’s one of the funniest performances i’ve ever watched. she had me laughing my ass off at things that i never really crack up at anymore after seeing this show 50+ times. her physical comedy? ON POINT (she really leans into using her movements to make karen even goofier). the way she’s made the role her own has pushed her into my #1 karen spot (and i genuinely did not think anyone could take that spot from kate).
and mary kate was an AMAZING janis. her vocals are nuts (as would be expected from a former elphaba tbh) and she plays janis with a great mix of what i call barrett’s “too-cool-for-school” take and gianna’s “absolute art freak dork” take (which y’all know is my favorite). her inflection on some of her punchlines just had me dead (see: the “cake” bit i put in that audio compilation). i knew i would like her but i loved her even more than i expected.
edit: i also just spent a lot of time watching ixchel because i missed her so gd much
